I say we vote Yay because of all the little flags, and it should be a show of force for the WA to flex is obstructionist powers; defying the wishes of the parties that were actually directly relevant to the events described. What fun!

While Virtualila does support this proposal, and while we agree that it is unfortunate that the repeal of the 10000 Islands' commendation is what appears to be weighed the most of the proposal, we find it only fair to point out that the delegate of the aforementioned region has decided to vote AGAINST the proposal.

Perhaps some food for thought.

How is it "weighed the most"? It was only a small mention (the proposal says "Vaguely Upset") and the proposal is about the condemnation for his act in stealing the delegacy of TRR.

Commend Yelda didn't pass and that was a hilarious poem, many SC people don't really read the resolution very well and only take what is being done and who it is being done to.

The TITO commendation is a prime example, it was a horribly written resolution but what it did was admirable. For some reason it is considered a crime to want a repeal? The commendation they will get eventually will be more cemented by an excellent commendation proposal as opposed to a sub-standard one and I would guess it might be the quickest quorum reacher ever.

"But... but... but...", the Chorridonian ambassador stammered, with an horrified look on his face. "This is a disaster! A resolution with my nation's name on it can not pass! When my government sees it, they will think that I'm actually doing something useful here and will keep me as ambassador! Oh my... I would have to go drinking to the Strangers' Bar. The other day I tried going there and I was almost run over by a bear and an evil skull at the door! And then I asked for something strong to calm my nerves and they served me a glass of sulphuric acid! Fortunately, I accidentaly dipped the tip of my tie on the glass before I had started drinking, so I survived. Although my best tie wasn't so lucky. And I will have to go through that again? Oh my..."

OOC: As I said on the previous thread, I feel that a condemnation (even one written with such inventiveness as this) would only give Aegara the attention that he was seeking, so I have voted against. But I prefer my IC reasons :p Let's see if one of these eons I overcome my laziness and actually start writing on the Strangers' Bar.

It is our national government's grave understanding and belief that Aegera did commit severe crimes that are abhorrent and are fully deserving of condemnation. However, that said, given the likelihood that he will see it as an honour our nation believes that such a condemnation would be possibly counterproductive to world peace. Further noting that such an action will have no practical result given that those refugees who were removed were indeed enabled to return, but that it would be, in principle, wrong to object to such a condemnation, our nation takes the stance of an abstention, leaving other nations to make up their mind.

Perhaps you do not take the voting seriously, I do. The SC is finally a place where people can be nominated for sainthood, or vilified, based on their actions in-game. I do not take well to jokes making it all the way through its halls.

I do. That's why you might notice that I voted against this. Aegara should be condemned; but this is not the text that should do it. If this were to pass, it will only present him with the badge that he craves for. Thankfully, it appears that it will not.

I must strenuously object to this characterization. There is absolutely nothing pure about this resolution except in its ardency for Aegara's condemnation. Because they've been naughty and deserve the switch.

So what if he tried to repeal the condemnation of 1000 Islands?

1000 Islands was never commended, so Aegara couldn't possibly have been behind its repeal.

Since when is 12 hours a prolonged period of time?

Have you ever had to debate some people in this chamber?! Have you?! I'd think not, or you would know how twelve hours can feel like a thousand years. And frankly, a thousand years is more than sufficient time for a debate.

WHO CARES if 30 odd people had a debate that lead to this? Did that Inspiration wishlist really need to be in the proposal?

Wishlist? Are you aware of what words mean, Ambassador? It is a correct and honest count of those national delegations who have participated in this debate. I felt it critically important to list them to demonstrate the many voices that have gone into this carefully crafted piece of legislation. Why do you want their voices to be silenced? Something to hide?

There was no calamity here, he didn’t turn TRR into the Conch Republic and legalize weed in 12 hours. The crime was that he tried, that Aegera felt he had the mojo to fill Kandarin’s shoes and utterly erase years of noble history.

And that is a calamity. Not legalizing pot, that is. I was also unaware that Aegara or any other nation had the capacity to remove years of history from people's memories! I should notify our weapons research department of this exciting new technology.

Almost everything written in this thing is fluff, the worst kind of official’eze. In reading this, I found myself wondering if this was less about honestly condemning someone who tried to destroy the Legacy of The Rejected Realms, and more about stroking the ego of the writer, and maybe a few of the people whose names found themselves on the wet bar-napkin that was the first draft of this atrocity. There are better ways to have your name immortalized then introducing what could be the downfall of the serious nature of the SC.

I was of the belief that the Legacy of The Rejected Realms was an indestructible artifact, oft rumored but forever unseen. The legend says that, when this artifact is brought in contact with the Legacy of TITO, the last raiders shall fall silent, and liberations will be needed no more. I suppose that's a good thing?

As for the serious nature of the SC? This is the body that liberated raider puppet dumps and regions with founders, and condemned a region because the word "Nazi" appears in their name. I am attempting to restore this body to its intended purpose.

This is not a condemnation; it’s a joke that turns the SC from a vaguely unstable institution suffering from growing pains, but with grand possibilities – into a card room filled with people who like to turn jokes into official policy. I pity the future, but because I am Russian, and that is what we do, comrade. Though I am interested in this "card room" that you mention. Is there going to be a third chamber to the WA in the making?

I suspect this will pass, everyone loves a good joke and the masses will vote Aye on almost anything. The shame in this falls on the writer, and the poor sods that actually supported it. Shame, shame!

Absolutely. Delegates shouldn't get to choose what to support without a "seriousness test" of some sort. Now who to administer it?

Yes, we are happy that the SC exists to counterbalance all that nasty junk in the chamber-that-shall-not-be-named. This is why Aegara must be condemned by this resolution. It is important that everybody take the Security Council very, very seriously.

Or tossed out, so it never makes it far enough to be considered a joke that takes the SC along with it. That works even better, it’s less a waste of the Delegate’s time.

I must strenuously object to this characterization. There is absolutely nothing pure about this resolution except in its ardency for Aegara's condemnation. Because they've been naughty and deserve the switch.

Krioval »

Don’t hurt yourself while you’re strenuously objecting, we might have to then commend the person who came to your rescue. And then we could commend the person who recommended that commendation, and so forth.

A lot of people in Nationstates are naughty, not all of them should get a WA condemnation for it. If you are going to condemn someone, for the love of God, do it for the right reasons and forgo the jokes so the SC doesn’t become a watered down morass of idiocy.

I know what constitutes a true condemnation, I and mine held The East Pacific for months in the iron grip of the Empire, for example. The only thing your condemnation was missing, Sir, was that Aegera stole the lollypops out of babies mouths and sold them to junkies. That would have been the crown on this proposal.

Have you ever had to debate some people in this chamber?! Have you?! I'd think not, or you would know how twelve hours can feel like a thousand years. And frankly, a thousand years is more than sufficient time for a debate.

Yes, actually, I have. I always make sure to wash my hands once I'm done.

I've been in NS since 03, so I've had many a debate in this game... often times with people better suited to logical discourse than this, er, august body. I know what 12 hours are, I also know that what might feel like forever is not forever.

Perhaps you should try arguing with some of the people I've dealt with over the years. I'll see your 12 hours with 9 months of constant debate over the same subject.

Yes, I have something to hide. Worthless lines that do nothing for the proposal except stroke egos.

Their names are forever on the discussion thread, they don't need to be on that... thing... you call a condemnation. That list of names at first screamed 'look at us, we can create a joke that will get thrown into a vote just because - we're cool like that, yeah, look at us! Bow to our powah or we’ll condemn you too!'

Can you tell me about the past history of The West Pacific, starting with the first constitutional government? Can you tell me about the legacy of Lemuria, and the part it played in the freedom of The North Pacific?

A legacy is only carried for as long as people choose to remember it. A legacy can be shattered by untimely events and destructive people. I should know, I remember regions that have long since passed into dust because they were destroyed by invaders. TRR has a long running history, and its legacy would be difficult to destroy- but not impossible. The crime of –trying- to overthrow its years long government is worth punishing.

As for the serious nature of the SC? This is the body that liberated raider puppet dumps and regions with founders, and condemned a region because the word "Nazi" appears in their name. I am attempting to restore this body to its intended purpose.

With that condemnation you penned, you proved you fail.

And shame on you for casting aspersions on my glorious nation, and for insulting the intelligence of everybody reading this. You should know better sir...or madam. I can't quite tell from over here.

Wow, I really must have sank to the sewer if I’m insulting the intelligence of everyone here and reading this, I’ve read some fairly stupid comments in the last few hours. However, I think I’ll take that as a compliment, coming from you. Thanks!

Yes, we are happy that the SC exists to counterbalance all that nasty junk in the chamber-that-shall-not-be-named. This is why Aegara must be condemned by this resolution. It is important that everybody take the Security Council very, very seriously.

Yes, he must be condemned, but in a serious manner. If this junk passes, it will only prove that the SC is a hobbyhorse for anyone wanting to prove how clever they are, or how well they can stroke the egos of the big WA regions, so they can pass anything they feel like.
