Joining Earth II FAQ
  • ololthis looks kool how i join i want USA
Calm down there son. First things first, read the first five posts and THEN fill out the application. Yes, definitely in that order. Then make triple sure that the territory you want is unclaimed. Check the claims, check the map, and check the last few pages of the thread. As much as Lay would have you believe the contrary, he is not a god and the spreadsheet is usually not 100% up to date.
  • All the land left is all AIDS covered, do not want.
You'd be right, if this was Real Lifetm. However, in Earth II your territory can be whatever you want it to be. For example, in Real Lifetm Afrikka is a hellhole. However, in Earth II, thanks to the United States of Brink and other fabled states Africa is probably one of the more productive regions in Earth II.
  • wtf is DST?
If there's something you don't understand, seek better understanding.
  • ok so i filled out my application and I got rejected why???!?!?!
Go back and read the first five posts. See if there is anything you missed. Usually if you're claiming claimed land you'll be told. Otherwise its probably something in the application.
  • Okay I got in and it sayz I have to do an intro and I have no clue wat to do this suxs.
The best idea is to Roleplay your government/political party/race of Etheral-analogs/immigrants come to power.
  • i finished my intro and I did not onto map help pl0x
Your intro probably wasn't long enough. While there is no set length requirment, intro RP's have to be "of substance". So one or two posts won't cut it.
  • Okay i finished my intro wat now?
Anything you want, within obvious bounds. The world is your oyster.

This can into first few posts?

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.- Carl Sagan

You're selling outdated arms? Just give them as training weapons, and give them to your police force.

@Brink: So you me and Phil?

Key word is "partial"

What I figure his ORBAT in Scotland to be. Assume that this is taken from a classified Cottish army intelligence briefing dossier.

Opposing Force, Order of Battle

This Order of Battle gives the tenative positions of Goodrule Forces, henceforth referred to as OPFOR, as of 1 April 2010, and their estimated battle readiness. It should be noted that the units are not at full strength, and are suffering from diminishing supplies and POL, reducing their effectiveness. Additionally, own aerial attacks have rendered much damage to OPFOR facilities and storehouses, reducing their supplies additionally. It is to our advantage that the Enemy still have the bulk of his forces deployed in such a manner as to defend from a seawards invasion from the West, more specifically from Layartebian Ireland, leaving his eastern coast relatively undefended. For this reason, our forces will land along the eastern coast, and seize the lowlands, thus effectively cutting Scotland in half and denying the enemy free access to communications and the vital North Sea fuel depots.

It should be kept in mind that the Goodrule soldier is a professional soldier, not a conscript. He is a well trained, ruthless foe who will ignore collateral damages in order to cause harm to his enemy. For this reason, he is to be treated as a extremely dangerous foe, and taking him as prisoner should not be considered. Fortunately, as in most dictatorial societies, personal initiative is highly frowned upon, even in the military, and the Goodrule nation is no exception. As a result, the Goodrule soldier relies on superior officers for detailed orders and instructions. Therefore, targetting Goodrule officers and non-commissioned officers should be a high priority, as this will leave the Goodrule unit confused and hopefully stop its momentum long enough for our forces to take advantage of this.

Additionally, due to the ruthless treatment the Goodrule soldier has given the civilian populace of Scotland, the populace is inherrently hostile towards the Goodrule regime and subsequently considered to be friendly towards us. As a result of this, it is not in our interest to allow attacks upon civilians to take place as this may alienate the civilian population from our cause. Protection of the civilians, especially from Goodrule retribution, should be a priority, and care must be taken in the use of force. However, do not forget that you will be in a warzone, and that your own personal safety must take presedence.

Each Infantry Brigade consists of one Infantry Regiment with an attached Engineer Battalion, Logistics Battalion and Anti-Tank Battalion for a total strength of 4,000 men.

Goodrule Air Forces, Scotland

The OPFOR air power in Scotland, as of 1 April 2010. It should be noted that concentrated missilery fires have been subjected to the Goodrule airbases, and many aircraft have been destroyed on the ground or in the air by Air Force and Naval Aviation fighters. Still, the Enemy may still have sufficient aircraft intact to constitute a serious threat. For this reason, follow-up attacks against the Goodrule airbases will resume until they are captured by own forces, and fighter cover will be provided around the clock for the Army and Royal Marine formations. It should also be noted that OPFOR air defences remain very much intact, despite own aviation's best efforts to knock it out. Therefore, enemy air defense installations should be a high priority for own troops.

I have noticed a bit of issues with military percentages. A lot of newer players have come in with ridiculous percentages. I don't think people fully understand what all of this means. The figure we're looking for here in Earth II is your total force size, not including reserves, during peacetime. There are stickies with information about this but I don't see many people reading them. During peacetime, a nation's military won't be very large, per say. Often the way it works is that a democratic country will have a lower size than a non-democratic country, mainly because of the fundamentals of dictatorial rule. Nations like the US, UK, and Germany have military sizes around 1% or less. China, because it is so massive, only has a military size of less than 0.2%, despite having the largest standing army in the world, while Iran hovers around 1.3%. Russia hovers around 0.75% and North Korea is around 5%. India is a little over 0.1%. So with those numbers in your head what does it all mean?

Depending on the government and your policies your military might not be all that big. Generally speaking, democratic countries will have smaller militaries than non-democratic ones, simply because of the nature of dictatorial rule. A government such as a totalitarian one will have the highest military size, especially as the military is often the police force in said countries. Economically speaking, the percentage means a lot. During peacetime, one's standing army will be eating up a lot of resources. The higher the percentage, the worse the economy. Look at North Korea for example. Their economy is non-existent and their military is 5%. All of the resources in the country go to the military and even they are hungry. Iran's economy heavy depends on oil, if that were to run out, their military would downsize dramatically. Countries with conscription will have a higher military size than those without conscription. The USA is a little less than 0.5% while Russia is 0.75% though both have similar standing armies. Norway is a little under 0.6% while the UK is just under 0.4%. Germany is a little over 0.3%. Norway and Germany have conscription, the UK does not. Russia has, the US does not.

So to determine really what your size should be, answer a few questions first. The first is what kind of government do you have and the second is, do you have conscription? From there you can determine what the size of your military should be, in terms of percentage. As you can see most countries listed here have military's under 1% with some exceptions. If you have conscription you can boost a little more and if you're both non-democratic and with conscription you can boost a little higher. Generally speaking though, once you go above 2% you are doing harm to you country. Anything near 5% will just turn you into North Korea. Secondly, you should create a graduated scale once you have your peacetime size down pat. Determine what the size is of your peacetime military then, add in your reserves. Figure what you would be in a war where you are invading someone and then a war where you are being invaded. Then go to a total war scenario. During WWII, the US had a military size of 13%, which is nearly triple that of North Korea but also take into account that the entire US populace and economy was geared to war production. That is a total war scenario. Also factor in how long you can sustain these sizes. Obviously, peacetime would be sustainable forever, so long as your country remains as is. Even adding in reserves, you can sustain that for a long time. If you're invading someone, you could sustain for a long period of time but, eventually, you're going to get hurt economically speaking. The US has been fighting in Afghanistan since 2001 and Iraq since 2003 and certainly the economic troubles the US is experiencing can list these wars as one of many causes. In a war where you're being invaded you have to take into account your industry being blown to bits, unless your opponent is a moron. Sustainability is a bit different here but it likely won't be forever. Germany, towards the end of the war, was in economic ruin, not that much of the country remained standing. That pretty much went for all of Europe, the Soviet Union included. In a total war scenario, you can't go on forever but, if you avoid being attacked and your industry survives, the sustainability can be very long.

To get you started, here's what I use. Now I am an authoritarian republic with conscription. At the federal level, there is no democracy but at the local level (state and under) there is. So I'm a mix between two systems, in a way. Conscription is males only, for two years. For peacetime, I am 1.5% and with reserves I'm 2%. I can sustain both indefinitely. If I am attacking someone and invading I can go up to 2.5% and sustain that for maybe five to ten years, depending. If I am being attacked, I can go up to 4% and sustain that for a long period of time, even while my industry is taking a beating. During the Era of Conquests, the Empire was about 5% but there was a significant amount of war production going on but even that had to be curtailed after some time. Under a total war scenario, like WWII, we can go up to 15% with a total committal of our industry and civilian populace. Anything over 15% would simply be impossible.

So with that said you might want to look to and re-evaluate your military sizes. If you've got a military that's exceeding 2% peacetime, chances are your economy isn't so great and if you're up near 5% or over and claim to have any economy you're basically godmodding.

Also as a little aside, remember that, at minimum, 50% of your entire military will be logistics.
