Yttribian National Football Team

Manager: Simon Jewel
Simon Jewel can be described as a crazy fellow, but a genius tactician. His tactician skills has led Telino to a close second place in the Premiership, and hopes to gain another title within the near future, if Telino renews his contract. Jewel has set a date, by the end of the CE for Telino, or else he is fair game for any team looking for a manager.
Formation: 5-3-2 using the sweeper
Home Grounds: Le Nid Violet, Fontvieille, cap. 81,800
Image

The state of the art stadium is by far considered a living hell to visitors. Opposing fans can see tactics of La Viola possibly put their team off guard, and lead them to commit fatal errors, one right after the other.
Style mod: -1.85

Roster
Goalkeepers
#1 - Ulrich Draper - 26 - GK - Mardi Lopunnies (NSI)
#20 - Pacey Berger - 24 - GK - Stemanisis SSC (1st)
#23 - Gaspard Irvin - 20 - GK - AC Zevella (3rd)

After a monumental transfer over to Mardi Lopunnies, Ulrich Draper wasn't even in the starting lineup, and lost some valuable experience, playing against some of the best players out there. Thus, Simon Jewel opted for Pacey Berger to replace him defending the net. Berger helped lead Stemanisis SSC to their first league title, with six clean sheets to prove it. Despite the two year difference between Draper and Berger, Berger has a much more developed style of play, called the Flying Squirrel due to his high aerial actions.

Defenders
#9 - Hervé Torres - 25 - RWB - Telino (2nd)
#11 - Rico Mathews - 23 - CB - Stemanisis SSC (1st)
#14 - Dezi Burns - 22 - CB - AC Zevella (3rd)
#15 - Xavi Vilhjalmsson - 24 - Sweeper - Crystopolis City (Crystal Empire)
#17 - Tanner Dickinson - 23 - RWB/LWB - AC Zevella (3rd)
#18 - Bailey Linville - 27 - LWB - AC Zevella (3rd) (C)
#21 - Darren Quinones - 26 - Sweeper - Delare Minon FC (4th)
#22 - Bradley Gaspar - 24 - CB - Stemanisis SSC (1st)

A few changes in the squad, with Rico Matthews getting called up by Jewel. Tanner Dickinson shall be replacing Torres at RWB, mainly due to his alcohol poisoning that has changed Torres near the start of the domestic season. Dickinson has really proven his dominance at RWB, and was seen as the better choice over Torres. Captain Bailey Linville still dominates his position at LWB, and despite him becoming a little slower, he still has excellent tackle timing, and is to be reckoned with. Vilhjalmsson has one word to describe about playing sweeper: "happy". One of the stars of Yttribia, his season abroad at Crystopolis City was helping to him, and his tackling skills. Bradley Gaspar was transferred over from Gremalsco FC to Stemanisis SSC, and that was a grand choice. Gaspar's dominance as a defensive left midfielder helped him overall with playing center back, and thus gave him a spot in Jewel's XI. Rico Matthews was seen as good enough to take the final spot in Jewel's crazy XI.

Midfielders
#2 - Antonio Abreu - 26 - CM - Alianza F.C. (SJG)
#3 - Onésime Rios - 27 - DM - Telino (2nd)
#4 - Eugène Janvier - 20 - CM - FC Nova Tunis (TJN)
#5 - Bobbie Allard - 26 - CM - Old Corinthians (TLI)
#8 - Ned Goode - 23 - DM - Telino (2nd)
#13 - Garfield Robinson - 25 - DM - Delare Minon FC (4th)
#16 - Gustave Mynatt - 29 - CM - Telino (2nd)

According to Antonio Abreu, a day in San Jose Guayabal can "mess with your mind". A year in San Jose Guayabal can "help you with football". Possibly the biggest improvement over the entire domestic season, Antonio Abreu made a point on why he should be starting for Yttribia, and he has really proven it. Gustave Mynatt is still one of the highest scoring midfielders in the game, with eight goals scored. However, he is best known for his passing, with fourteen assists in the Premiership. Ned Goode outshone all other defensive midfielders, with the "record" amount of tackles he performed. Goode was chosen, mainly due to his streak of 780 minute streak, or 8.6 match streak of committing a foul.

Attackers
#6 - Aydan Hackett - 28 - FC -Telino (2nd)
#7 - Terry Hyme - 24 - FC - Stemanisis SSC (1st)
#10 - Venceslás School - 24 - FC - Gremalsco FC (5th)
#12 - Moisés Fairclough - 22 - FC - Telino (2nd)
#19 - Sacheverell St Pierre - 25- FC - Montfort University (TLI)

Zach Radclyffe was replaced by Terry Hyme, but the two players up front remain the same. Sacheverell St Pierre had a fall out with the Gremalsco FC front desk, but Montfort University took him up. Currently, he's been training by playing on a practice pitch, so he has really developed a one-on-one mentality while playing football. Venceslás School was pretty much the only bright side in Gremalsco FC's terrible season this year, missing out of UICA competition, but qualifying for the Nexxie Cup. However, he did perform well, despite the loss of Sacheverell, and got a spot, and kept the chemistry alive with those two up front.

BRENECIA
Preferred Formation:
4-4-2
Style Modifier: -1
Playstyle: Similar to New Sideburn in the physical element - playing quick and direct and low on possession. Strong spine, good on the counter.
Home Stadium: Union Park in Pavonia. A 70,500-capacity all-seater, home to Northern Union. Kingsgarden, the traditional national team/cup final stadium, is being refurbished due to being absolutely decrepit (ready c. WC68).
Kit Supplier: Kirola
Nickname: the Patriots, Arrogance

With a solid performance in the last CE and cycle to build on, Brenecia's looking forward for the first time in its history. It's seeded to progress from its group, but that's making the assumption that Baptism of Fire champions Buyan will play to their rank - most find them underrated. Even so, Jon Slatesaver's stated his determination to make it as far as last time... and maybe beat his old rival, Gethin Ramsey, at home in the first match.

Overall Record
30 wins - 14 draws - 31 losses
108 scored - 114 conceded

Most RPs will contain the lineup for the next game, but this is the strongest lineup the Patriots can field.

Jon SLATESAVER - 58
Manager

Slatesaver isn't one for big speeches, but he marries remarkable tactical nous with an instinct for man-management. His authority in the dressing-room is unmistakable and untouchable, and after the heavily-criticised reign of Blake Lawless and Clint Hemingway's run marred by factional infighting (and poor results), Slatesaver brings some dearly-needed stability to the national team.
After two years at the helm, Slatesaver's Patriots have defined themselves on defensive stability and a rigid, uncomplicated style of direct play. The quality's patchy, but after coming third in a qualifying campaign that saw them win eight from nine matches at home, there's no doubt he can get the best from his squad.

Vance STERLING - 39
Assistant Manager

Sterling has never been one for the spotlight; he's been supporting staff for fifteen years, a full-fledged assistant for eight, as what doctors described as a 'totally fucked' hamstring ended his career at nineteen years old. A Hemingway supporter, but when he fell, took it upon himself to manage the team - a win against Barunia made it an easy decision for Slatesaver to keep him on as assistant.
1 - Franca CONNELL - 32 (3c) - Sabrefell Moths (NSB)
28 caps, 15 clean sheets

A good all-round shotstopper, it's hard to point to any weaknesses in Connell's play. She's played for a variety of clubs and countries, mostly in the top levels. Recently secured a move to Sabrefell, as the Moths have had issues with goalkeepers since Stubbs' retirement.
Franca Connell was in goal as Brenecia kept clean sheets in their first seven games, including a 0-0 away draw with Valanora. It ensured they were the last team in qualifying to concede, even after traditional defensive powerhouses like Ko-oren or the Islandstates.

16 - Stephen MANSFIELD - 35 - Suttonville (EUR)
23 caps, 7 clean sheets

Steve Mansfield boasts the honour of being the Brenecian player in the highest-ranked league of any of his countrymen. It's a somewhat dubious honour given the circumstances - a panic buy for Suttonville, they went on to lose 25 from 38, concede 95 goals, get nailed to the foot of the table the entire season and are still in the Silver League to date. But he's still a fine goalkeeper, with a desire to still be playing in his early 40s, and he's a fan favourite for his stalwart demeanour.

23 - Jayce PENCE - 24 - North Laithland (NSB)
Uncapped

Pence has always shown sparks of talent, but it's only this season they've come to fruition. Nevertheless, her great form in goal is proof enough of her talent, and some have been calling for her to take up the leading role as goalkeeper. Her best asset is her reflexes, but she is a balanced goalkeeper in all respects.
Despite winning the league for North Laithland, Pence remains Brenecia's third-choice goalkeeper. Some would say this is unjust, but realistically on Connell's form and Mansfield's experience it has to be expected. It's no dishonour - this is a fine crop of goalkeepers.
2 - Samantha ALLBECK (vc) - 28 - AFC Treason (NSB)
Right-back
75 caps, 3 goals

One of Brenecia's best-ever players, Allbeck may well reach a hundred caps. Her tenacity and awareness in defence means she doesn't compromise the wing when going forward in attack, where her speed, ball control and ability with crosses are a significant asset.

3 - Magda CHARTREUSE - 27 - North Laithland (NSB)
Left-back
40 caps, 0 goals

Young, promising, very short, with a shock of strawberry blonde hair and a swarm of freckles, you'll know Chartreuse when you see her. But she's very good on the wings, with an enviable expertise of short passing, and you can rely on her tracking back when needed; her positioning's impeccable.
Chartreuse holds the enviable honour of being a superb player with close to no competition for her spot.

4 - Mark GRAVES - 26 - Maximum Rovers (NSB)
Centre-back
15 caps, 0 goals

Coming off a good couple of seasons with the Rovers, Graves has proven himself to be a solid defender. He's small for a centreback, at just 5'9", but he makes up for this with agility and with the accuracy of his trademark sliding challenges.
Graves won fifteen caps from nineteen matches last cycle, and looks to be establishing himself in the squad.

5 - Gareth MORTLOCK - 29 - Ridgeway United
Centre-back
35 caps, 1 goal

A centre-back of the 'immovable object' archetype, though he has an eye for goal during set pieces. His lack of pace or skill on the ball is offset by his positioning, and he's good at managing fair challenges.
A very solid and capable defender who drove United to the cup one year and the title the next, but even a club hero like Mortlock must be looking abroad from the A-League by now...

12 - Clara DRUMMOND - 27 - South Laithland (NSB)
Centre-back
33 caps, 0 goals

Drummond was a colossus at the back for the Southrons in their greatest-ever season, helping them to come fifth with her tenacity and bravery. A more than solid centre-back.
In the main squad on a rotation basis, Drummond has always accepted the post with good grace, professionalism that the fans appreciate.

17 - Shay BLACKWOOD - 29 - Crisisbless (NSB)
Right-back
9 caps, 0 goals

A tall, dark, handsome wingback, Blackwood was certainly not an attempt to replace like-with-like. The outgoing Anna Shrike was quick and ruthless in attack, while the more laid-back Blackwood is a rock against wingers and prefers to advance slowly and cautiously. Either way, he's more than ready for the squad; his only problem is having Allbeck to compete with.
Blackwood's not getting any younger, but he's kept his pace, and all of his skill. He will make for a solid backup.

18 - Henrick VANDERTON - 28 - Northern Union
Centre-back
3 caps, 0 goals

Formerly an anchor at the back for the otherwise shaky Southside Wanderers, Vanderton's first season for Northern Union saw him as one of the standout players, earning him a callup to the national team. Has an eye for goal in set pieces.
Despite winning the title with Northern Union, Vanderton nevertheless can't find a way past his competition.

22 - Constantine BOWYER - 21 - Rozelle
Left-back
Uncapped

Bowyer is new blood, the only uncapped defender picked for the squad. But don't mistake that for him being raw or inexperienced - Bowyer's a complete full-back, excelling in all areas of play, and scouts are very excited by his prospect.
6 - Fiona SYLVER (c) - 32 - Violence Chariots (NSB)
Defensive Midfielder
55 caps, 2 goals

Sylver may be small and wiry, but as a playmaker there's no substitute. She tends to stick to her position; this is a team that will likely build its centre around her rhythm, she can afford to sit back and pull the strings. Under Slatesaver, Sylver retains the captaincy - she thrived in a partnership with Althea Chenoweth, and will likely continue to do so in the new formation.
At 32, she's still doing well at a high standard. Many have seen her as Brenecia's Lucia Oakwood, but in reality Sylver's more playmaker than harrier.

7 - Steed RAYNOR - 26 - Vermillion Rage (NSB)
Right Midfielder
15 caps, 2 goals

Raynor's a tenacious player with a real eye for goal, netting ten for the Corvette Maulers even as they went down. Signed onto newly-promoted Vermillion, his strong performances so far have endeared him to Slatesaver, and the midfielder may even start.
While he battled with the veteran James Macbeth for the starting role last campaign, Macbeth didn't even make the team this time. His numbering is an indicator of Slatesaver's faith in him, and he was unlucky not to score more than twice though last cycle.

8 - Althea CHENOWETH - 29 - Western Orcas (BAR)
Defensive Midfielder
33 caps, 0 goals

Chenoweth's the anchor that keeps an otherwise very aggressive Kingsgrove side in check, and Hemingway hopes she'll bring the same restraint to the Patriots. Less of a playmaker than Sylver, but she's a relentless harrier and vicious man-marker. Her twitter account is, in fact, @thatharpy, after a frustrated striker referred to her as such in a post-match interview.
Chenoweth may not be Brenecia's most individually talented player, but without her the team crumbles as a defensive unit.

11 - Miriam SPITFIRE - 27 - FC Brimstone (APX)
Left Midfielder
58 caps, 11 goals

After a fair absence, it seems like Miriam Spitfire might well retake her position in the first team. A revival both for club at FC Brimstone and at country under Jon Slatesaver has added real dimension to her game, and she looks more comfortable as a straightforward left midfielder than as a winger. Still a well-rounded player with a wicked left boot.

13 - Rook ASQUITH - 27 - Sabrefell Moths (NSB)
Left Midfielder
14 caps, 3 goals

Asquith has done well in the Premiership, but faces an uphill struggle to reclaim his place in the starting XI on Spitfire's current form. A powerful, physical player, utterly committed to win the ball and decent tracking back.

15 - Erin CAMDEN - 23 - Parrhesia United (NSB)
Central Midfielder
5 caps, 1 goal

Camden has been learning to create play from deep lately, and it's added real dimension to her ability as a footballer. But she still boasts a wicked shot from distance, and her skill with either foot means she'll be guaranteed to take any direct free kick she's on the field for.

19 - Daniel SNOWDEN - 26 - Maximum Rovers (NSB)
Right Midfielder
4 caps, 1 goal

An energetic, pacy midfielder, Snowden seemed a little raw earlier in his career but is currently a far more developed player. Creates more chances than he converts, but he has an eye for putting crosses in at the far post for a lurking striker.

20 - Augustine BRETON - 22 - Northern Union
Central Midfielder
Uncapped

A primarily defensive player who was Northern Union's midfield anchor in their title-winning season, it's little wonder Breton's got admirers abroad... and little wonder Union are so eager to keep him. He's the only Brenecian candidate who can offer anywhere close to Chenoweth's stopping power in midfield when she tires, or is injured.
9 - Brad KUEPPER - 29 - Altomare (FEL)
Striker
58 caps, 29 goals

Kuepper arrived in the national team as the emergency replacement for the injured Edmund Pike. His form in the dark blue shirt has launched his career, performing strongly at Sabrefell Moths for a season before moving onto Felix. His strengths are athleticism, ball control, pace and finishing - in other words, the complete centre-forward, though not outstanding in any one category.
His form in qualifying wasn't great, but with five goals he was Brenecia's equal top scorer over the course of the cycle, including their only goal in the Cup of Harmony. Still, Patriot supporters will be hoping to see Kuepper at his best.

10 - Gareth FARRELL - 30 - Crisisbless (NSB)
Striker
27 caps, 10 goals

An energetic centre-forward, Farrell's rugged good looks and classical heroic build point to a strong, physical, athletic playstyle that allows him to muscle through defenders like they weren't even there. He's at his best with the ball at his feet.
Farrell might not keep all his pace into the next cycle, but he's still an immense physical presence capable of holding up the ball for those around him.

14 - Tanith BRYSON - 23 - South Rathia
Striker
6 caps, 2 goals

Bryson's form in the A-League has attracted interest from the Premiership. The Brenecian domestic league will sigh as yet another young talent is plucked from their grasp, but it's the way of things at the moment, and for the benefit of the national team. Bryson's skills lend herself into the role of a technically gifted striker, whose pace gets her into great positions she can usually be relied to score from.

21 - Cheney BELCONNEN - 22 - Marque
Striker
Uncapped

A powerful target man already at 22, Belconnen lead the league for headed goals. He has a gift for running into great positions and finding the net from them, though he's no great technical player. He may or may not develop those abilities with age - for now, he's a perfect impact substitute.

1 - Franca Connell (Sabrefell Moths, NSB, 3c)
16 - Stephen Mansfield (Suttonville, EUR)
23 - Jayce Pence (North Laithland, NSB)

2 - Samantha Allbeck (AFC Treason, NSB, vc)
3 - Magda Chartreuse (North Laithland, NSB)
4 - Mark Graves (Maximum Rovers, NSB)
5 - Gareth Mortlock (Ridgeway United)
12 - Clara Drummond (South Laithland, NSB)
17 - Shay Blackwood (Crisisbless, NSB)
18 - Henrick Vanderton (Northern Union)
22 - Constantine Bowyer (Rozelle)

6 - Fiona Sylver (Violence Chariots, NSB, c)
7 - Steed Raynor (Vermillion Rage, NSB)
8 - Althea Chenoweth (Western Orcas, BAR)
11 - Miriam Spitfire (FC Brimstone, APX)
13 - Rook Asquith (Sabrefell Moths, NSB)
15 - Erin Camden (Parrhesia United, NSB)
19 - Daniel Snowden (Maximum Rovers, NSB)
20 - Augustine Breton (Northern Union)

9 - Brad Kuepper (Altomare, FEL)
10 - Gareth Farrell (Crisisbless, NSB)
14 - Tanith Bryson (South Rathia)
21 - Cheney Belconnen (Marque)

Kurt Callaghan had been a broken man.

Journalistic credibility, it turned out, was a very malleable concept. Taunting a national team is all well and good for clickbait until their manager breaks your fingers.

But at least Brenecia was shit, and always going to be shit. Even when Hemingway got sacked, and dear God that was some schadenfreude, things couldn't possibly improve.

Slatesaver was installed, and immediately started winning games. Callaghan was sacked from the Observer.

So now he had a blog. 'Bleak Reality', he called it, purporting to be Even and Neutral to the bitter end.

This was a fresh start, for him. 343Brenecia was interested in his services as a columnist, if the blog got enough interest. I mean, the Observer had totally dropped the Brenecia Is Shit line from earlier and had adopted a more friendly approach, so no hope there unless the Patriots nosedived, but still... there was something there he could use. He could climb his way back up to the top, the hard way. Besides, what was a writer without a short year of condensed alcoholism?

Can Home Form Foil New-Look C&G?
by Kurt Callaghan

No.

Or at least, a win would be firmly outstripping our realistic expectations. But whether you ascribe Esportiva a Big Three, Four or Six, Licentian Isles are an integral part of it, and we simply aren't at their level.

Granted, the Patriots were not afraid of any of our opponents at home at the World Cup qualifiers. Playing without fear is an important part of the game. But there's only a limited amount our patchy squad of veteran Premiership squad players, A-League youth prospects and a couple genuine stars can stretch, and this might be a step too far for them.

Most people will agree on Brenecia's strengths. We're strong on the defence, and Franca Connell's a superb last line of defence. The crux of our play is in the centre of midfield, with Sylver and Chenoweth linking up well. And there's talent going forward as well, Spitfire and Kuepper being the highlights. And, well, Slatesaver's certainly put his own stamp on the team - they're achieving outside their reach as players, which is frankly mediocre, for the most part.

The Isles, though, are going to go in hard and fast. With Ramsey at the helm, they've changed formation to a 4-4-2 diamond. We've never played the Isles, but New Sideburn playing the formation under the same manager have beaten us three times from three and never conceded. And, of course, the Isles have more talent in their ranks than the Sideburnese.

Slatesaver's two banks of four are a disciplined unit, but what can Mortlock and Graves do marking players of Leighton's calibre? Particularly with Arran Miller playing as an attacking midfielder, exploiting the hole in our traditional formation - it's likely Chenoweth will drop back from the midfield line just to try and deal with him. That means the integrity of our midfield will be somewhat compromised, and Sylver will have less support. Our chances will come from the wings, and they will be few and far between - Spitfire and Raynor will probably drop inside to try and keep the diamond from rolling over our midfield. It's almost certain both sides will take full-strength lineups. On paper, this is TLI's most difficult match, and Ramsey will want to get his Licentian career off to a winning start, while Slatesaver will be crucified if he pulls any punches here.

Make no mistake, Brenecia-TLI will be a great chance for the Patriots to scrape points ahead of their main rival, Buyan. But a draw will be hard-won, a defeat is always going to be more likely, and the Isles are going to beat us in the reverse fixture, convincingly. Even and neutral as always, this is Kurt Callaghan signing off.

Paul Yamamoto sat facing his window that overlooked the skyline of Nova Algiers, a glass of water glinting in the harsh artificial light as he raised it to his thin lips. All along the wall behind him he could see his memorabilia reflected in the glass, green and maroon and white, all hung up in neatly-arranged black frames. Setting his glass down, he raised his hand to the window and placed it next to the image of his jersey from when the Maroons had won the Green League. Slowly, he turned it, wrapping his fingers into a fist, and holding it before his face.

Scars ran along his fingers like veins, and as he traced them with his other hands, he could also feel the path of hundreds of hot tears as they'd streaked down his face the night the Maroons had lost to Oldcastle United and finally been removed from the Globe Cup. He remembered waking up in his bathtub, his maroon kit drenched in blood, shivering and rocking himself back and forth like a mental patient. He'd sat there awhile, how long he couldn't say, while his emotions chased themselves in circles. He'd thought about killing himself, but at the same time he'd known it was bogus, that he was too selfish to just bow out like that.

He'd stood up to peel the kit off, felt the crusted blood, and collapsed back into the tub, tears reasserting themselves, flowing down his face. He'd cried as he'd looked at his hands, the cuts that had since closed and were now scars, and he'd wondered what he'd done to get it all so fucked up. He'd pictured his mother, his brothers, anyone to get him out of the tub, but the only image that had stuck was his coach, the middle-aged Asian man they all called "Coach Miyagi" or "High Expectations Asian Coach", telling him to get out of the tub and start training for next season. That hadn't help; he'd felt embarrassed to be thinking of Coach at such a team, and he'd felt that Coach would want nothing to do with Paul in that state.

Paul took another sip of water, feeling the stab of his memory and wondering why he was letting himself relive it. He knew why, though; because it got better. After much coaxing, he'd got up and grabbed his phone and dialed. Alex Kim had picked up, the only player on the team who hadn't given up on him, at least in Paul's estimation, and Paul had told him that he was hurt, that it was a lot of blood. To his credit, Alex hadn't seemed overly critical as he asked in he was okay.

Buyan Football

Thirty-eight years ago, a couple of Esportivan communist exchange students decide to kick a ball around on a field not too far away from Vadshult. After a lot of history, we’ve now ended the year 2016 and football is tilting the crown of the most popular sport in the archipelago, especially in the western part of the eleven islands. In the third season of the unified Top Division, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis has grabbed the crown once again and reached the last sixteen of the Globe Cup, a great honour for a team that only reached the top so recently. The national President’s Cup saw a victorious Blau-Weiss Pallstadt. The official national competitions contain 47 teams and are still up to expansion, but its popularity mainly lies on the many local teams. Especially in the western part, football is the main sport, whilst being opposed to the popularity of rugby and basket in the east.

Being a newer nation, there is still room for tactical development. However, the days where everyone played 3-4-3 and rushed forward, are over already. in the recent past, Buyanese football was usually noted by powerful midfield play, with a lot of forward focus transcended in one man: a team is often defined by its type of attacking midfielder and the position is probably a bit overrated. Navickas and Cedar, by example, previously grew into the posterboys of the competition that way and only Sverre Devold is more popular. The new generations, however, demonstrated that the danger doesn't have to come from one person only and the ability from Viztourzys and more recently Pallstadt have allowed them to grow to the highest level. The fact that Hope holds on to the same opinion has certainly helped to popularize the idea.

He is stamping out the old traditions with a renewed midfield where the wings can produce a lot of danger as well, but with a larger focus on the defending as a whole. It was a typical vision in Buyan to see attacking players stay forward when the opposing team launches an attack, causing a lot of pressure and goals, but the national side doesn’t show so. Hope wants a sturdy defence, unless there are opportunities on the wing, with Naess and Wreczius as a double lock on the door. The midfielders receive the clear message to work along at all times and Edvald Mattisson only surpassed Havelund as starting attacker once he adapted his game to this plan.

Record at the CE IX: 3 win, 0 draws, 3 losses: elimination in the qualification round

Top scorer: Edvald Mattisson, nine goals
Most caps: Bronius Bartkus, forty caps

The current record line starts to look like something. Our first six international games were played in the qualifying phase of the Campionato Esportiva, where novice Buyan got drawn with Hessington Island, Dandillis and New Sideburn. Against similarly inexperienced Hessington Island, two victories were obtained, whilst all other four games were lost without marking a goal. Not the kind of record that makes one optimistic, but during their home games against both Dandillis and New Sideburn, they showed good football with hope for the future. They lived up to that prospect with an excellent run in the Baptism of Fire, where they took out Dutzenderland, Crya and The Holy Forden Church in the group stage, before qualifying over Ceni for the quarterfinal. Said duel against Kitsunia-Deesse was ended with a glorious 3-1. The semifinal was a close encounter, but a goal from Elmo Havelund placed them for the final, where it remained nil-nil against The Sarian till the final whistle. Ultimately, a 7-6 penalty series decided upon the victor of the BoF 54.

The expectations for these WC qualifying were rather low. The performances in the Confederations’ Cup, where all games were lost, immediately made clear that we’re dealing with a different level now. The opening half of the qualifiers confirmed this, with only ten points, all but one against lower-ranked sides. A draw at home against The Archregimancy ensued a better second part, with five victories and a draw out of eight games. Especially the nine out of nine in the final three games against Ossidiacqua, in Greater Watford and versus Gregoryisgodistan was solid, resulting in an honourable fifth place out of nine, with 26 points, the best result by a BoF-nation. The qualification for the Cup of Harmony was most certainly an honour to end that WC run and grabbing a point against a household name like Western Angola confirmed our rise.

The current competition is started with mixed feelings. Our lack of experience causes to believe that a qualification for the proper Campionato will be a very long shot, but one feels that they should be present at their home tournament.

Buyan Squad

Twenty-three players have been selected for this tournament and we see a few changes in comparison with the previous selection, for the Cup of Harmony. No alterations amongst the goalies, the usual trio will represent our nation. The pressure on Bergh, however, is raised after a moderate second half of the domestic season, especially with some great performance of Seber in mind. Third goalie Erhardt probably won’t play, but he’s here to pick up experience. With other guys like Palle Angst and Erbald Saldlund fighting their way up, Buyan can count on a talented generation.

Two defenders have been left at home in comparison with previously. Cutting Bart Valminen is considered a positional issue, as Sirius Hope opted for a few more attackers in the line-up. Still, it is a bit of a surprise as Valminen gathered his second cap during the last international game against West Angola. We’re also not seeing back Wilco Vrintz, who showed signs of exhaustion after a long and successful season for his domestic club Blau-Weiss. This leaves the opportunity for Ignas Smetona to grab a spot in the national team for the first time, will the former bad boy show which evolution he made abroad?

In the midfield we miss out on two players who have gathered quite a few caps last year. Eero Halmiini went through a rollercoaster year and asked Sirius Hope to be left at home, to allow him some recuperation. This ensures his eternal –friendly- rival Marco Castell to claim the right-midfielder spot. This also allows Sico Ullsmang to be selected for the very first time, quite a bit of a surprise although he had an excellent season for Bengtsmark. His youth might have inspired Hope to add him. Second elimination is Jaro Martinek, who had a very poor season for his Garbarnia Hoyersko, he was replaced by a left midfielder –as Zermin is more of a defensive one anyway-, another first-timer this Kazimeras Paleckis from Pajukas Sport. Hope's last surprise was to add Duco Dalmshelf as fifth attacker, instead of Viztourzys players Vincas Daukas or Jochen Ptak. Dalmshelf is a young, inexperienced player but had a splendid season for Jottnar.

Buyan Staff

Manager: Sirius Hope, Image

After a catastrophic injury in the Paradisian Cup, the ex-international defender took to coaching and acted as Assistant Manager to the Paradystopi squad under Marina Hayduff. In the WC66 cycle, he took over the lead position of the staff and lead his team in an exciting run, which brought them within inches of the World Cup.

In search of more credibility, he took up the challenge to bring modern football capacity to Buyan, a difficult task, to say the least. The success in the BoF enlarged his credit amongst the criticasters and he continued this streak in the WCQ. His choice to ‘first build defence and then attack’ hasn’t gotten him that many fans, but results show he chose the right way.

Assistant: Frederich Allersham, Image

At the age of 73, Frederich knows more about Buyanese football than anyone else. Legend goes that he participated in the first game ever on our ground, but official stats see him only as a coach. His career seemed to end when he got sacked after ten years of duty in Pallstadt, but he turned out to be the ideally fitting counterpart to Hope with his calm experience.

Buyan Kits

Image

After using regular blues for the Campionato Esportiva VIII, Buyan addressed Vulpine Sportif who provided them with these magnificent kits. The usual shirts will be the red ones on the left, which will be matched with blue shorts and red socks. The goalie will wear white at all occassions while the blue version serves for away games, matched with red shorts and blue socks.

Buyan Permissions

Choose my goalscorers - Yes
Godmod scoring events - No, unless awesome

Dude, I've got this awesome idea - TG me, I'll be glad to cooperate

Buyan Stadiums

The three main stadiums from the nation are being renovated and expanded in order to prepare for the actual Campionato Esportiva. Due to these events, the Havssidanstadion, Unter dem Linden and the Novas Pylimasstadionas are unavailable. The fourth stadium for the tournament is a newly build arena.

For the course of the qualifiers, Buyan will find its new home spot in the slightly older Bokstasstadon in Pajukas, with 8.400 seats until recently the largest in the nation. Opposing teams will receive 1000 tickets for sale. The stadium is normally the home stadium of Pajukas Sport, hence the dark green ornaments.

Buyan Style

Style Modifier: -3

During this Campionato Esportiva, Buyan usually will play in a 4-2-3-1, although Sirius Hope showed that he could be lenient about this, having a personal preference for the 4-1-4-1. Judging by the last few games, Hope will opt for the eleven descripted here.

Anders Bergh is an experienced goalie. The central duo, Bartkus and Tufte is young, but has talent in abundance and know very well both how to start both an organised build-up or play a clever long pass to Mattisson. On the right wing, Refshauge does the clean-up for the hardworking Castell, on the other side, Zemaitis gets the support from creative midfielder Wallenberg to do the wing from time to time. In attack, Mattisson is the lone man in attack. Wreczius is the vacuum cleaner behind star player Sverre Devold, while Naess supports the latter when it comes to creativity.

Image Image
Two recent line-ups from the Buyanese squad showing the two most used systems.

Usually, the line-up for the following game will be provided in the RP of the last matchday. If not, please look back at the last RP written.

In trouble or against a true right-wing attacker, Hope might want to replace Zemaitis by the more defensive Krupa. Another option is to add Zermin or Paleckis to the team, instead of Wallenberg. Within the same tactic, Hope might send other accents by replacing Naess by Zermin, Refshauge by Smetona or Castell by Ullsmang.
In case of a slim difference, Wreczius or Naess might be sacrificed for a second attacker. Moen probably holds the preference. Another option is to replace a wing midfielder by a striker. Another solution from Hope is to send Naess forward next to Devold in order to create a 4-1-4-1, although such might be done through a substitution as well.

Penalties: Bronius Bartkus (if unavailable, in order: Devold, Wallenberg, Mattisson, Bergh)
Indirect free kicks: Harald Naess
Direct free kicks: Sverre Devold
Corners, left side: Marco Castell
Corners, right side: Frederik Wallenberg

Captain: Anders Bergh
Vice-captain: Harald Naess

Paradystopia Roster for Campionato Esportiva IX

Management

Image
Manager: Mukalo Rotanapai
After winning the post in an ill-conceived reality TV show during the eighth Campionato Esportiva, Mukalo has completely revamped the national side bringing in a lot of young players and completely overhauling the tactics. The 49 year old Vaian has 19 years experience in the top flight of Vaian football. 11 of those with Wakita United with whom he achieved 3 league titles. It is hoped he can bring some of this success to the Paradystopi team.
Image
Assistant Manager: Chester Kat
Mukalo's assistant was a fellow competitor on the aforementioned show. However, during the filming, the pair struck up a strong friendship and the rest as they say, is history. Hailing from the small Paradystopi colony of Mousebane Islet, Chester was previously manager and captain of the team Scratchpost Hillock who will play their first season in the Paradystopi league next year.

Goalkeepers

Kjn Volgjsrhaad #1
– F.C. Endeavour (Apox) – age 29
A permanent fixture of the Paradystopi football team and now it's first choice for captain, Kjn is most commonly known for his huge stature and trademark grizzly beard. At just over 7' tall (c. 2.15m), he is truly dominating in the air and his arm-span alone can cover a large percentage of the goal. He stereotypes the term 'gentle giant' with a very calm demeanor which is sometimes mistaken for passivity. A workhorse who leads by example.
Booch Kumping #22
– Djnamo Sabrjk – age 27
Despite the perennial argument over whether Kinshish is or should be a de facto part of Paradystopia, the Kinshish goalkeeper Booch is the nation's usual second choice. Booch has had little opportunity to play in the national team colours owing to being constantly in Kjn's shadow but with being goalie at Paradystopi regular performers Djnamo Sabrjk, his credentials are well in order.
Jon Proud #26
– Red Star ve Mirrun - age 23
Given what he's up against, Jon has accepted more of an apprentice role with the national team. A good prospect for the future if a little rough 'round the edges presently.

Defenders

Perri Mournwinter #16
– Black Star ve Kwjg – LWB/LB - age 21
This young defender is beginning to make waves at Black Star. Though a little heavy-handed with the aggression (which many attribute to some Communadi lineage), the passion he exudes undeniable. A competent defender and a dangerous wing-back
Rhosh Joyles #19
– Whilliumiborough Swagger – LB - age 21
Rhosh is a cautious young man who will stick to the task at hand as though his life depends upon it. A little cumbersome with possession but good at dispossession often more by luck than judgement.
Marvin Marvkinson #23
– Diframz TU (Earent) - CB – age 22
'Marv' is a indefatigable prankster. Chirpy and the eternal optimist, Despite being a technically able defender, he likes to push forward and challenge opponents with an array of tricks. Results can however, vary.
Edward Braithe #3
– Nhorton vo Mirrun - CB – age 27
Edward is one of the old guard now and a solid player. Strong and strategically-minded, he can see and quell threats before they begin. Stoic in his approach, he has good chemistry with Kjn and the pair can choreograph a steadfast defense.
Astrall Standstall #4
– Djnamo Sabrjk – CB - age 25
Another seasoned international, Astrall can at times be a little wayward. Frequently he'll sacrifice positioning in order to challenge a player. A bit of an oddball but generally good-natured and a respected defender despite his tactical short-comings.
Evelyn Paradys #2
– Lhaydifee Artisans – CB - age 26
Originally Communadi, Evelyn (and several others) defected to Paradystopi during the bouhaha of the Esportivan war. She has no problems with being seen as a Communadi stereotype and often plays up to it in a twisted humour sort of way. Strong, aggressive, single-minded and precise, she is arguable the best defender in Paradystopia currently.
Hari Selk #14
– Nhorton vo Mirrun – RB - age 23
Hari is another player, like Booch, who seems doomed to spending his entire international career on the bench or playing the closing minutes of games. Nippy and good in the air, his usual use is as an additional goal threat in close games without sacrificing a back four.
Rhuth Savhis #28
– Black Star ve Kwjg - RB/CB – age 24
Rhuth is an interesting personality. Her pinpoint long-passing and natural talent as a playmaker make her more akin to a midfielder. Quiet, thoughtful and somewhat of an activist. She turned down a transfer to the Lhadyfee Artisans on the grounds she believes an all-female team needlessly sexist.

Midfielders

Ranjeev Vhornam #5
– Dzias Riot - CDM – age 20
'Jeeves' has a little experience now within the national team and is maturing into a fine defensive midfielder. Technically, a solid defender although his slight build leaves him lacking the raw strength necessary for a full back. Not afraid to have a speculative effort at goal even if his accuracy leaves a lot to be desired.
Rhoddri Tuz'rirhan #24
– Alsabaszi - CDM – age 24
The second defensive midfielder on the roster is a real brute. A relentless powerhouse whose tackles can often be felt in the stands. Rhoddri is most often used as a pre-defensive wall when the match plan revolves around maintaining a lead.
Khalvin Horros #25
– Dzias Riot - LM – age 21
Khalvin is a quick wing player with a decent cross. Sadly over-shadowed by Ms. Khayr, Khalvin is a capable midfielder with an infectious optimism. He'll be happy with 30 seconds on the pitch and will give 110% for every moment.
Khorinnha Khayr #33
– Rogglebo TU (Earent) – LM/LCM - age 19
Following a sensational debut season with Whilliumiborough, Khorinnha won young player of the season within the Paradystopi league. Agile and skillful, she typifies the renowned flair of her club. More than happy to challenge opposing players but also knowing the correct moment to loop in a cross. A threat to any defense.
Morgana Foloris #7
– Gwinevra Barbarians (Apox) - CM/RCM – age 25
Since defecting from the Commune, Morgana has become a driving force within the Artisan squad and a respected Paradystopi midfielder. Not quite as brusque as her country-mate, Evelyn Paradys, she is still headstrong and powerful. A meticulous tactician, she is often the vocal force upon the pitch.
Yani Flodrantezt'rirhan #8
– Whilliumiborough Swagger - CM – age 26
Yani is a vitriolic player, aggressive and hot-tempered. His major attributes are his dribbling speed and strength in the air. After a lacklustre season with the Jimmies, he's be lucky to see any decent time on the field this time around.
Kharon Ohltfeld #21
– Nhorton vo Mirrun – CM/CDM - age 20
Having played his first season on the Nhorton first team, Kharon is beginning to make a name for himself in Paradystopi football. An ebullient personality but a calm head when it matters. He's also shaping up to be a skilled set-piece taker.
Sjmon d'Kolperiskonjf #12
– Flying Jellyfish (Farfadillis) – RM/RWB - age 22
Originally a defensive midfielder with a penchant for playing out wide, Sjmon has had a good season with Black Star and is looking to not waste a chance to play internationally. Agile and confident and with a good long pass, he'll be hoping to secure a permanent first team spot.
Jsha St. Dhads #41
– Lords Dwellings - RW – age 19
Jsha (pronounced eye-sha) is arguably the most curious selection for the squad. The nineteen year old from a second division club being practically unknown. Mukalo Rotanapai's reasoning, 'She's the best right winger Paradystopia currently has.' You know what?, he's got a point ...
H.R.H. Princess Jojo of the Kinshishish #15
– Crystopolis City (The Crystal Empire) – CAM/CM - age 17
The youngest of the Kinshishish princesses, Jojo is the archetypal tomboy. From an early age she reveled in competing against her older brother and was frequently admonished for her 'unbefitting behaviour' of challenging the local Kinshishish children to sporting contests. After been accepted into the Lhadyfee Artisan academy, she has begun to flourish as a footballer and if she continues to progress as the same rate, a long and illustrious career.
Viaddin Tarcka #13
– Djnamo Sabrjk – CAM - age 26
Viaddin Tarcka is Paradystopia's most well known footballer. Highly respected amongst his peers and an excellent midfielder. Viaddin has twice turned down the captaincy of the national team on the grounds that he wouldn't want the responsibility to affect his game. A long-shot specialist, accurate passer, clever technician. Viaddin is a truly great all-round player.

Forwards

Ghengjs Aafjlh #27
– Red Star ve Mirrun – age 25
Another permanent reserve player, Ghengjs is strong and tall, providing defenders with plenty of problems from corners and set-pieces. A little sluggish in comparison to the other forwards, Ghengjs makes up for this with a blisteringly powerful shot which, if on target, can catch dozing defenses off guard.
Vincent Talakovik #32
– Ozkha Rovers – age 28
Vincent's selection raised a few eyebrows, more so than the abundance of under 21 squad members. The lynchpin of Ozkha Rovers attack, Vincent is a reliable supporting forward capable of making the right pass at the right moment.
Luke Benjamin #10
– Nhorton vo Mirrun - STR – age 20
Having become somewhat of a veteran of international football for Paradystopia at a young age, Luke is heralded to go down in the history books as one of Paradystopia's greatest players. A dangerous turn of pace, an accurate and powerful shot and a composed demeanor, Luke is the talisman for Paradystopi glory.
Jay-jay Jabez #30
– Djnamo Sabrjk – STR/CF - age 17
Jay-jay really is an unknown quantity. Youthful exuberance and seemingly limitless energy are the two main factors in his favour. However, when he plays well, he's among the best young strikers in the game. On a bad day, he'll be lucky to complete a pass successfully.
Kjn Pitinuus #11
– Djnamo Sabrjk – STR - age 29
Reaching the twilight of his international career, Kjn is beginning to focus more upon coaching and management. Though he's lost a few feet of pace since his younger years, his international experience is very welcome in what is a very young team.

"The Pointy Thing"
With a new manager comes new tactics and Mukalo Rotanapai, along with assistant Chester Kat, has devised this strategum for Paradystopia's World Cup campaign. The tactics hinge upon a solid defense with a flexible, yet spearheaded attack. The five-strong defense acts as both a blockade and a base for attack with forward impetus coming from the wings or the centre, via the intermediary defensive midfielder. The team will hold onto possession, playing short pass-and-move football around the defense looking for the opportunistic surprise attack or deliberate slow build-up play. The midfield and forwards will act as one unit, scouting for space and often making diagonal runs to tease defenses apart. The two central midfielders actually playing on their 'wrong' side to facilitate strikes on their stronger foot after cutting inside from the wingward runs. The central attacking midfielder will occupy the centre of this triangle, or 'pointy thing' (with the striker at the forward point) and their job will be mostly to support the attacks happening around them, from 'within'.

Official Announcement

"I would like to concur in the words of my good friend, the Gran Supremo, and wish you all the luck in this tournament. To celebrate the start of this Ninth Campionato Esportiva, I'ld like to say the following words..."

With great gestures, Kazys Portnii, leader for life of the Buyanese Empire, gets a paper out his inside pocket.

"Ladies and gentlemen,

A bread.
A pack of onions.
300 grams of salami, without garlic.
Two toma... ehm... toes?
Five packs of... wait... chocolat.
200 grams of ...
Goddamned, where is that speech writer?
... salted cheese.

Ehm. Thank you very much for your attention. Now prepare on!

You've given me the wrong paper, you imbecile!
"

OOC: This is your 23-and-a-half-hour warning, for all others as well.

Campionato Esportiva IX Roster for The Glorious Commune

In recent years, Football in the Commune has declined. Some blame the league merger with the Califan Solidarity league, others the capitalist incentives of greedy club owners. Quickly, a practice of genetically altered players swept the league and nearly all the 'authentic' players relegated to substitutes to make way for mindless drones incapable of any thought process other than football. As Communadi players moved to other areas of the Paradystopi Commonwealth, taking positions in the clubs within the leagues of Paradystopia, the Lymryk Isles and Ark, the Communadi officials, deeming such acts as traitorous, were left with a severe deficit of national players. The drones being actual possessions of the various clubs and seemingly ineligible for national service. The solution was a government-funded team of scientists and researchers to create a national squad using whatever DNA they had on the national database to sculpt the perfect team.

All players within the roster are a combination of cyborg and manufacturer clone. They are all androgynous and near identical. They wear no kit, playing naked, but all have a large Communadi wheel (as seen in our flag) tattooed haphazardly upon their chests. Albeit being naked, they have no discernible reproductive organs resembling a 'nude' action man.

The team play aggressively and frequently incur many cards (it is not uncommon for them to finish a game with, say, 7 'men'). Due to their physical build, they can be injured as a human but will happily continue, if somewhat hampered, with broken legs and arms. Be advised that they will seek to reap vengeance upon anyone who injures them with stoic disregard for the consequences of their actions. They very rarely speak or even vocalise and react to nothing that isn't directly connected to the football.

Thirty Minutes Before Kick Off

Look at me when I'm talking, people have already written us off. Read the tabloids, read the satirical papers. Another last place for The Sarian. More money gone to waste on sending these wankers to some land no-one gives a shit about. And why shouldn't they?

What have you done to change it? I tell you now, that Cup of so called Harmony was a waste of fucking time. You played with no passion. You played with no heart. You played with no desire to even give it a fucking go. Yeah, I'm not stupid. We're not the best team, that doesn't mean we don't try to win. Our last win was against a team 99 places higher then us. We can fucking do it.

The lack of enthusiasm in this dressing room is sickening, especially you, you're supposed to be the fucking captain, no shut up, I'm talking. And unless we fucking change, it will happen next tournament, and the next and the next.

Actually, no it won't. It might, but not with you bunch of twats. There is enough footballers in this country to get rid of all of you and replace you all with someone with heart. Because guess what sunshines, ability is only half of it.

So are you going to show me what you can fucking do this tournament or are you never going to put on the greens again? Are you gonna fucking try or fail? Passion is what I ask for, it got us to a Baptism of Fire final and it can get us anywhere we goddamn please if we just show it.

So go give me one fucking hundred percent or don't even bother going out there. We can and will play to win. So go fucking do it.

Don't even bother clapping, because I don't clap your performances. Why don't you try changing that?

Gathering the Team Pt 1

He would have once been scared meeting the Emperor but since he had fought in a war and many a battle he no longer had any qualms. He was riding through camp on his trusted stallion Nightmare who he had ridden the whole war. This was the frontline armies camp and it was all tents unlike him and his scouting units further behind camp at his estate. He had reached near the center of the encampment where the tents where that of officers and nobles and were getting steadily bigger and there were now great flags hanging from above the tents emblazoned with their owners coat of arms. He kept riding every few meters ducking his head instinctively as the heavy guns sent shells flying through the hair and at one point he looked up to watch a dog fight embroiled not a mile from the camp. A company of 1st Imperial Legionnaires ran past him as their Captain barked orders that they needed to get to the trenches as fast as possible the Captain then noticed him and the young officer seemed to recognize him and swept his hat off and smiled as if he had remembered something from his distant past. The amount of 1st Legionnaires and Imperial Guardsmen was increasing and then he saw it. A tent huge and magnificent emblazoned with dancing wolfs and ancient soldiers carrying fearsome axes. He recognized some of the men lounging about here. Each one was a man of the Old Guard remnants of the Old Days when the Emperor was progressive before the war. Over there sat silently watching on a stool was Major Felix Farstuck a man who him and his father had used to deal with when organizing meetings with the Emperor and where once he had been quite a large happy man now he was thin and his life seemed empty. He was almost up to the entrance to the tent when two men in suits of armor stepped from either side of the entrance. They had the familiar Dubrack Dubrackson coat of arms surcoat on and they crossed halberds to block his path.
" Who is it that requests permission to the Emperor's chamber. " Said a third man in a tabard said and he recognized him as the Lord Chief Herald Of State Sir William Forster and he smiled as he recognized his fathers old friend.
" It is I Brigadier General Lord Mark Deberen of Horseton come to petition the Emperor. " He replied and he noticed one of the soldiers grimace as he noticed the change in his appearance.
" Please dismount and squire Alexander Hurtley will take your horse to the stables and you may enter. " Forster replied and gestured and a young boy ran out of a small hut and took his horse by the bridle after he dismounted. " Lad how is your father faring. " Forster asked as he passed over his pistol and rifle to another waiting guardsmen.
" I was up only Saturday and they said there was a tiny bit of progress but nothing to show that he was going to wake soon " He replied and Forster nodded sadly and then the guardsmen with his weapons nodded and the two armored men stood aside and one pushed the flap to the tent open.

The tent was well lit and very open. He noticed the plain single bed in the far corner and the simple wooden desk in the middle. The only sign of the status of the owner was the weaponry and armor which was richly ornate and shone which he found remarkable considering the ongoing war. And there the Emperor stood with his back to him with his hands spread over the desk looking down at a map. He was dressed in chainmail and in simple trousers and riding boots. His hear hung long and he had a thick black beard and all over he was ragged and unkempt. Even war was taking it's toll on the great Emperor of Albaie. " My liege " He said and dropped to one knee. The Emperor spun round to look at the newcomer to his area of solitude.
" Ah Lord Mark how are you ? " The Emperor asked. Mark would have once grimaced at seeing the Emperor's new face but war had hardened him. Yes he was still a handsome man but the eye patch covering the eye he had lost at the Battle of Jointon when he had led an infantry charge to stop the peasant army under Ed The Farmer who had stabbed a dirk through the Emperor's helmet but the Emperor had then torn him apart with Dubrack's Sword.
" I am good Sir how are you ? " He replied.
" Aye I am good well as good as a embattled Emperor can be now here come look at the maps. " The Emperor said and Mark walked up and stood next to the Emperor. " Now Mark you see how Duke Freddie Taylor has his men here and Earl William Turner has his here. " The Emperor stated pointing at two places on the map where there were white squares.
" Aye Sir and my brother has his troops here and Marquis Henry Halltable has his here. " Mark nodded and then pointed to the black squares closest to the white ones.
" Yes now look at these recent observations. " The Emperor passed over a photo. It showed the fortified fronts of Taylor and Turner's forces and there was a gap in between the two trenches.
" There is a gap and then trees " He remarked. He then noticed what seemed to be the back of both things seemed to have no fortifications at the back. " But wait there is nothing at the back. "
" You get it now. I'm thinking of staging a attack using your brother's division and the 1st Legion while you and Vincent's forces get between the gap and into the trees the night before and hide till morning then when the attack has begun you descend on their camps and raze them. With the defeat of these two forces we can roll up their line and then push the enemy from this southern part of the island with in the month and then i'll call on Fredrick to bring his men down from the mountains and between us we can clear the island completely and push onward and a loss of their army on this island would cripple the enemy within the year the war would be over. " The Emperor started proudly stating his plan.
" Sir I totally agree but I came here to ask about restarting the football team. " Mark asked and the Emperor turned.
" What a marvelous idea. " The Emperor said and a broad smile. " Get a bit of pride in the nation again. All I ask is that you and your brother fight this one last battle and you can take any player you like. " The Emperor said beaming then saw Mark's face as he thought about Queb. " Even Queb we'll offer a peace deal with them and back them up. " He said and Mark smiled and then asked the Emperor for a more specific plan. As long as he survived the next battle the football team was back.

Eristicea National Football Team

Style: +3, formation and tactics unclear
RP Permissions: Anything goes. In fact, I encourage godmodding. Particularly with regard to rulebreaking. Try and run with the squad theme if you can, otherwise, do whatever. I'm pretty sure I can make it work.

* * * * *

This past summer, one of the most prominent "clans" in Eristicea -- reputedly enraged at the national team's failures in the last Campionato Esportiva to push their representative -- seized control of all football within the nation after a particularly violent coup.

There were a reported five hundred and fifty five deaths, but the Santino family -- and their already immense influence -- is swelling as a result of the commercial revenue streams within global football. They have allegedly "called in a few favours" to bolster the squad's strength ahead of the Campionato.

* * * * *

Playing Squad:
(if no position is specified, choose one, I don't mind)

Angelo Santino, captain, midfielder
The 20 year old, favourite grandson of Giorgio Santino. Don Giorgio named him captain, nobody dares question it. In fairness to Santino, he's actually a pretty good player. His histrionics and tantrums undermine this ability, though. Sometimes it seems as though he spends more time threatening opponents, referees, fans, and ... well, pretty much anyone who displeases him... than he does playing the game.

George "Noodles" Splattanno, goalkeeper
Noodles is ... a bit unstable. Expect erratic behaviour, errant fists, and pointlessly reckless challenges. Oh, and look out for the noodle-legs distraction attempt when he inevitably concedes a penalty. Insanity aside, he is an excellent goalkeeper, though... oddly enough.

Ferdinand "Salami" Salidante, left back
Nobody actually knows why he's called Salami. Even he doesn't. But it's stuck. Fittingly, he runs a delicatessen. He is a solid fullback, though, and is among the better players in the squad. Salidante's place in the squad is likely an honour granted him by Don Giorgio as a thank you for years of providing "quality cold cuts." Interpret that as you will.

Marco "The Cleaner" Bufacalli
Pretty self explanatory nickname. He cleans. Crime scenes specifically -- if there even is such a thing in Eristicea, where there are basically no laws -- to conceal evidence of his family's involvement. He likes wearing white suits, which is probably not the smartest choice of attire when you're likely dealing with a lot of blood.

Saverio "The Surgeon" Criscirano
Yeah, this nickname isn't for the cool reason you're probably thinking of. It's because poor Saverio handles the insides of a lot of human bodies, "post-whack". He's one of the Santino family's numerous "white suits" -- so-called because they are always clean; though some of them literally wear white suits all the time, like Bufacalli -- and highly respected. Iron stomach, too. Never seems concerned about being "on brain detail".

Willie "The Butcher" Abattardo
Another pretty self-explanatory name here. He butchers. With a great massive meat cleaver, usually. Never seems to enjoy it, but does it with a calm efficiency that should unnerve you. Oh, we should probably point out that he owns a pig farm, too. You know what they say about men who keep pig farms, right?

Attilio "Meatballs" Camboni, attacking midfielder
Camboni is actually a superb chef. Makes great meatballs -- "the best in Eristicea", apparently; hence the nickname -- so I bet you're wondering why he's on a football team, right? He has a flair for the creative, you see. The cliche luxury player in the squad. Supremely gifted, is Camboni. Just not necessarily as a footballer.

Pietro "Spades" Polinori, striker
Ah, Polinori is cold, calculating, and methodical. He often works with Bufacalli and/or Criscirano "post-whack" (but he's never on brain detail) and got his nickname due to seeming to always have a couple of spades nearby, for some unspecified reason. Hint: They are used to dig the graves.

Carmine "The Hammer" Zanniglio, striker
Do we have to explain why he's called the hammer... seriously? Just... yeah. He's a big, angry guy. Dammit this writes itself.

Nunzio "Spin Cycle" Wackatoli
Another psychopath. This guy got his name from an incident at the launderette he owns. He was upset, so he decided to wash all his troubles away... and he put them on a spin cycle, just to be sure. Oh, we should probably mention they were still alive when he closed the washing machine door.

Marco "Granite" Giuliano, midfielder
While it's probably standard to assume he got this name because he's solid, and tough, and other assorted cliches... that's just a happy coincidence. The truth is somewhat more unsavory, and we won't be sharing it. Ask him, if you like. He loves telling the story.

"Call the regional directors immediately. It is an urgent matter. Tell them to get their asses to the Palace, now!"

These were the words that were uttered from Antonio Arias, as soon as he received the draw for the Campionato Esportiva qualifiers. He does not care whether the national team perform well in the tournament; he sees an eighteen point haul for the Agilang Dilaw. Why would a host in a tournament not to be a part of it in the latter stages? Well, he does not care at all. All he wanted is to prepare the nation for its first major hosting event in some time from now.

A few remembered the events that transpired in the Handball World Cup: Then-Sangti was lucky to be in the finals after the multiverse expected a repeat of the final four in that tournament. What happened? After three of those four teams (Saintland, RK Quebec and Unolia) lost to inferior opposition, the Gorillas lost to Felix, of all teams, and wound up as runners up. That event is what fans around the nation do not want to happen at this stage.

Arias does not care about what his constituents are hoping; he just wanted the nation of The Royal Barangay to be known in the world as a capable host of future major tournaments. One of these is the World Cup, someday. He just wanted the nation to be famous among the region - even the entire multiverse knew what transpired at the Estadio Olimpico nearly a year ago.

Four hours later, the regional governors came into his palace, one by one they came, until they wait for one more governor; the governor of Pranse, Tomas del Carmen. An irate Arias peppered them with questions.

"Do you know what time it is? It's eleven in the evening. You worthless scums are almost a day late! What if Gregoryisgodistan or Free Republics suddenly attack us, huh? Can you endure the scenes when you realize that our nation is being erased on the map of Esportiva, huh?" He ragingly asked each and everyone of the governors in attendance.

No one dared to answer his questions, for the fear of having to be escorted out of the palace by Arias. Minutes later, Del Carmen arrived, thus starting the meeting that was two hours late.

The people discussed certain security issues that continue to plague The Royal Barangay since its renaming from Sangti: the never ending civil unrest in Southeastern TRB, where Mazda Senina sympathizers continue to reign terror at the provinces of Livao and Northern Ryne in Isla Nespa, and the threat of the Kilusang Pangkalayaan ng Ati Kaluraya, where hunger and poverty have plagued the citizens months after they were given reclaimed land west of Manoglu to be their nation,. Another form of threat is overshadowing the glow of TRB's hosting; hooliganism.

Long ago, the most infamous of incidents recorded in the present-day TRB were the German Spanish Empire riots at Sangti, and the Gabel incident where fans from The Royal Barangay and The Sovan Antithesis stirred a commotion among the crowds at Nuevo Campamento, causing the stadium to lose hosting rights of National Team matches for a while.

The men are aware that San Jose Guayabal has a dangerous reputation in international football, as their fans usually start fights, often ending in riots or even murder. They knew that their security had lapses during the qualifers of the last World Cup, but they will do their best to at least alleviate the danger presented... or so they hope.

---

At the training ground in Zalesgon, Rick Martinez is furious. Seven players came late in their last training before the SJG match. What's worse than that was five of them were supposed to be starting the first match of the qualifiers. He was on the sidelines with Lorick to discuss his next plans.

"I think these brats need to learn they lesson."

"Are you sure about this, Rick?"

"If these fucking kids keep losing their discipline, then there is no way we could win matches."

"So who broke the rules again?"

"OK. We have Luke, Mari, Keith, Daren, Rennel, Erick K. and Ichiro."

"So what now? Do you plan on starting John?"

"It's still up to me. If I feel that he's lost his touch, then we might drop his name from the team even before we end qualifiers."

"OK. Let it roll sir."

After their training, RIck assembled his players and announced the starting eleven.

"Team. Let's get straight to this. I want these players to perform well at the match against the Guayabalense. OK? Here are the players that I will start at the match. Our formation will be 4-3-3.

At goal, Alwin.

The back four. Greg, Joseph, Roman and Carl.

The midfield. Christiann, Marvick S., and Robin.

The forwards. John, Erick A., and Marvick B.."

"Wait sir, what about us?" Luke suddenly asked the manager.

"You guys shall be benched for this game, and you will be lucky if you ever hit the pitch in that match. You all know that discipline is what we instill here in the national team. I think that's it, and good luck to the starters."

While Luke and the offenders reluctantly accepted the verdict, the nation awaits for the opening match at StadiumSangti.

Little time, big hopes

The sounds of the flailing wind, studs being knocked against woodwork and soft giggles when a ball gets a strange curve swarm over the misty Pajukas field. It would seem like a morning game from the C-reserves of a local squad if the silence wouldn’t be broken every once and a while by the shouted commands by Sirius Hope. The national manager has only been able to gather his troops three days in advance for this game against Kazamatsuri and that’s not according to his liking. “It’s very little time to get everyone in order,” the Paradystopian explains, “while every game could be determining with these short qualifiers. “I understand most of the lads had a long season, but I would’ve hoped that the Board would’ve accepted my proposition of a ten-day training camp.” According to the rumors, the clubs disagreed with said preparation. The opening match of the UICA is still three weeks away and they don’t want their players to be ran out by the time the competition hits the final games. It’s clear that their power on the Board is bigger than the one from the national manager. “What can I say? I can only work with what they give me and if this field,” a clearly dissatisfied Hope points to the molehill-filled pitch, “is all they’ve got in store, I work with this.”

New faces

It’s clear that most of the players have enjoyed their vacation period. We note how few of the passes find their destined receiver and the goalies have less work to do than one should except at a training of the nation’s best. The ideal opportunity for the newer faces to make a mark. The few Viztourzys fans loitering around the ground were certainly glad to see Smetona back on the team. After a short call-up in the CE VIII, where he didn’t play a minute, he seemed on the way down. Fortunately, he found back his usual strength and pace in San Jose Guayabal, which allows him to deliver quality crosses again. Crosses which unfortunately hardly hit the back of the net, unless Dalmshelf is in the box. Duco Dalmshelf was a surprise from Hope, leaving more expected players like Ptak, Daukas and Vilkas behind him, but the young Ravnarian shows why. This boy clearly made good use of his vacation and deserves a few playing minutes. The third debuting man is Kazimeras Paleckis, who gets rewarded for a splendid season for Pajukas. “I’m already glad to be around here,” the modest 31-year old smiles, “everything else is a cherry on the cake.” However, we wouldn’t be too surprised if he gets off the bench every once and a while as it seems that Wallenberg is enjoying the Farfadillian life a bit too much.

Few surprises

Although Hope hasn’t officially announced the starting eleven, we don’t expect many surprises. Only the goalkeeper position could become a nailbiter. Judging by the things we saw, it seems that Anders Bergh hasn’t fully recovered from a few smaller injuries, which means that Ulle Seber takes his spot. The back four are the usual suspects, with Zemaitis, Bartkus, Tufte and Refshauge. Possibly there will be some minutes for a sharp Smetona if it becomes clear that we need more balls in the box. Wreczius and Naess play behind the three attacking midfields, Moen, Devold and Castell, while Edvald Mattisson acts as sole striker. No Wallenberg indeed, as Hope wants to grab the three points in the Bokstasstadionas and opts for an attacker as left midfielder.

The Felixian Football Association Presents...

The Felixian National Football Team

Intro-

The era of Ishikawa Haruka in full swing, ever since she became the first woman and foreigner that the FFA has ever hired for the coaching job, she has made massive changes to the national team and has changed the classic 3-4-3 formation to a more aggressive 4-2-3-1. Something unheard of in Felixian football, unless you are a fan of Altomare. The board and it's diehard fans had a lot of expectations for her and for the most part, she has done splendidly. While her Cup of Harmony start was less than pretty, the team finished in the Group Stage losing to deeply hated rivals, the Free Republics. But she had some recent successes, something Daniel Cardona did not have before. Namely in the Campionato Esportiva. Her Felixian team finished in the Round of 16, the best finish ever in the CE. Then Ishikawa did the amazing, despite the shaky start with Felix losing against Mizuyuki and Free Republics in matchdays 1 and 3. But the matchday 2 win against West Angola, the second seeded team, set the tone for the rest of the qualifiers. Soon enough her very aggressive attacking playing styles against the opponents of Group 17, the group of death as it was dubbed, caught the attention of the multiverse as the team beat out the expectations of many by reaching first in Group 17 by the end of the first round of qualifying. Unfortunately, like Daniel Cardona, her team finished 3rd, one point away from qualifying to the playoff round. And while that defeat broke the hearts of The Phoenix faithful, the people of Felix cheered when they got their invite to be a part of the Cup of Harmony. And the Felixian people cheered even more when they found out that they had a groundbreaking quarterfinal finish. So now it is the CE, with the Mizuyuki born head coach deciding on keeping the same squad, let's see how they fair against their regional rivals...

GK (2)-
Matías Ciriaco {Age: 32} (Santa Maria City Image)* [Captain]
Ciriaco was born in Villarreal, Felix a town 30 minutes away from Santa Maria, the capitol of Felix. He is a very talented man playing for Santa Maria City and was promoted to starting goalkeeper as his closest rival, Viggo Tyko was taken off the team as he struggled with Cato during the FCL 2011-2012, season. Along with his promotion to first goalkeeper he also got chosen as captain. In Felix's so close to qualifying bid, Matías Ciriaco has had a up and down qualifier, he played 14 of the 16 matches and has done alright but he could do better as he gave up a lot of goals.

Hartwin Kirchner {Age: 31} (Sporting Volker Image)
Hartwin Kirchner is a goalkeeper from Arlington, Felix. He has done well in Sporting Volker as he became the starting goalkeeper for the club at the age of 23. He is known for his athleticism at blocking shots and oddly enough, his dribbling ability. He was once able to dodge two forwards when the tried to steal the ball with him back in the 2008-2009 season. He played two games in the qualifiers and managed to get a clean sheet, something that did impress Ishikawa Haruka. Kirchner now might compete for the spot as first goalkeeper in the CoH.

DEF (8)-
Bernardino Florentino {Age: 27} (Santa Maria City Image)**
Bernardino is a defensive star in Santa Maria City, originally from Altomare and once was on their youth team, this overlooked player was released by the Altomare side and eventually landed a job in Santa Maria City. Hoping to prove his doubters wrong and show Altomare that he needed to be in their team, he became won of the best players in the FCL in the 2011-2012 season and even won two FCL championships with his team. In the qualifiers he preformed quite well, saving Felix from multiple situations where Felix could've given up a goal. He is expected to be just as good in the CoH.

Aloysius Blau {Age: 27} (Stalliongrad HC Image)**
Aloysius Blau hasn't had the glamourous life compared to many other players in this team. Born in downtown Sieberg, he comes from humble and also tragic beginnings. His father was killed by muggers at the age of 5 and his mother worked all day to support him and his younger brother, Titus Blau. Football was an escape for the young Blau and eventually he garnered attention from scouts from many elite Felixian club teams. He was heavily scouted by Sporting Volker and he soon started to play for them at the age of 16. He did amazing in his years there and after winning two FCL titles with them he moved to Stalliongrad where he continues to play amazingly well for the Equestrian States team.

Alexis Garcia {Age: 24} (Hampshire United Image)**
Alexis Garcia is from the small town of Islas in northern Felix. Because the town had two official languages Alexis learned two languages as a kid, Catalan and Castilian (Spanish). When he first joined Hampshire United, he had to quickly learn English and he did. But he wasn't that good of a speaker and because of that he was shy with his teammates in the English speaking city of Hampshire. Fortunately for him he gained confidence as a player and as a person when started in the team and soon became one of the leaders of the team. In the World Cup he has continued to impress with his fast and physical style of defending. He is expected to do well in CoH.

Rubinho Mata {Age: 27} (Sieberg Image)**
Rubinho Mata is a very smart man, he comes from the town of Campinho in Felix but because Portuguese is not one of the national languages, he had to learn a lot of them and adapt to other languages. Right now he can speak four of the five national languages, he can speak in Swedish, English, Italian, Castilian and his native language Portuguese. He can also understand German and French. But his talents are not just in learning languages, but on the pitch itself. He is a excellent defender and has shown with his Sieberg club, in the World Cup though, he has become less effective. But maybe, just maybe he redeem himself in the CoH.

Manuele Provenza {Age: 25} (Altomare Image)
Manuele was born in Altomare, Felix and has loved his Altomare team forever. So it was a shock when he moved to another team, especially a foreign one. But he was that good and he couldn't help himself but attract attention from foreign clubs. So he left Altomare to prove his stuff elsewhere. But things didn't work out, the nation folded their national league and Provenza returned to Altomare where he is a power player in one of the best clubs, He too is a natural leader despite the fact he is quite the cocky man.

Josh Smith {Age: 24} (Hampshire United Image)
Josh Smith has always been ignored by the common crowd. Despite him being the first black man to play in Hampshire United in the 2007-2008 season he has made little noise in the team until the 2010-2011 season. But then he made even more noise by becoming one of the shutdown defenders for the Hampshire United club during the 2012-2013 season in which the team qualified for the Globe Cup.

Kaapo Samu {Age: 23} (Jenipapa Image)
Kaapo is a tall, Swedish speaking man and is very proud of it. He refused to leave his beloved Cato. But, after a tough season for Cato, Samu then moved to Dainer as he was dissatisfied with his team, after a horrid season. He is now recovering smoothly and is now a rising star in the national team. Expect him to save Felix from defeat when others can't/

Jon Vilmar {Age: 23} (Dusseldorf F.C Image)
Jon Vilmar like Kaapo Samu is a graduate of the U-21 system Sanna had and has a bright future ahead of him as he should expect to see playing time in the future as the veterans start to age and the opportunities start to arise. He is most commonly known for his skills in defending and in the counterattack where Dusseldorf F.C uses him for it. He will most likely start in the CoH at some point.

MID (10)-
Ji Iseul Kwan {Age: 25} (Ponyville United Image)**
Ji Iseul Kwan is one of only two Koreans in the whole team. He is also one of the fastest players in the whole team as he has a great level of acceleration and has big strides. That's probably the main reason why he was picked by Ponyville United during the offseason. But not only does Kwan have great speed he is just a great midfielder and man to be with in and off the pitch. He is a talented shooter and expect him to do some long shots in the tournament.

Gabriel Jenaro {Age: 25} (Santa Maria City Image) *
The man that replaced Sebastian Krister has certainly made his mark on the pitch in Santa Maria City. he has made a huge impact to the team and is a crowd favourite in the club. While he isn't as good at shooting as Krister is he is nonetheless a amazing midfielder with great awareness and strength. He is also good at corner shots as he delivers the ball right to the heads or legs of the men in the middle.

Sebastian Krister {Age: 23} (Bjarnarey Flotilla Image)*
Sebastian Krister is the main star of Felixian football at the moment as he is currently the only Felixian in a top league, the Polarian league. Despite him playing in Bjarnrey he is still a man to see as he and his great teammates take on the giants of Polar Islandstates club football. He is a talented man and was in Santa Maria City before he was bought. He will most definitely like the new system the head coach puts as it fits more with his style.

Kunibert Mathias {Age: 23} (Brinemouth Image)*
Born in Dusseldorf, Felix, he is a talented man from the U-21 system Sanna set up. Thanks to that very special training he received at his proto-prime age, he has become a big weapon to any team he is in. Due his desire to leave his team, Dusseldorf F.C and move elsewhere. He was bought by Brinemouth in New Sideburn, a club with a history goal scoring midfielders. Something this talented 23 year old is.

Violetta Romanov {Age: 28} (Lyon Image)**
Violetta was a star of the Felixian women's FCL and is still is with her debut with Lyon. She played in the Olympic team for women's football and is expected to do amazing things in this team. She is one of the first female players to be in the all sexes team and she is expected to do a lot of good things for the national team at midfield.

Chloe Álvarez {Age: 22} (Lyon Image)
Chloe Álvarez was born in Cordoba, Felix and was once played for the women's Cordoba club in the Women's FCL before it closed up along with the league when the two leagues joined up. Now she is in the very successful Lyon team where she was one of the main reasons, that the club has won Copa Félix and is currently in the FCL. She has been recently called up by Ishikawa Haruka in her attempt to include more women in the national team. It is also worth mentioning she has started in the U-21 team for the U-21 World Cup in the Equestrian States where she did some assists for the team.

Maria Martell {Age: 24} (Trieste Image)
Maria Martell is the oldest of the Martell sisters from Buena Villa, Felix near Santander. Maria Martell was scouted by the Trieste team and played for them regularly for the team and even developed a cult status for the team when she was one of the best players in the Women's FCL. Now she is a seasoned veteran in the Felixian football and because of that she was called up to the team. We hope she can make a impact in the team soon.

Andres de Colorado {Age: 25} (Ponyville United Image)
Andres, de Colorado was once ignored by the best scouts back in his youth but he had a quick rise when he joined and played for Napoli and was quickly noticed by foreign teams. After a great season with Napoli he then transferred out to Ponyville United, where he currently plays and has since then has been proven to be a good weapon for the team as he has played solidly. Expect him to be seen more in the future.

Manolo Espina {Age: 25} (Altomare Image)
Manolo Espina was born in Gallo, Felix a small Italian speaking town just west of Altomare. He has been a great talent ever since he was a little boy and he was soon discovered by two teams, Altomare and Sieberg. Going against his parent's wishes, he decided to go with Sieberg, instead of the hometown favourite, Altomare. Espina recently transferred to Altomare (finally following his parent's wishes) after many years in Sieberg. It was said he joined because saw the opportunities joining that presented and that his former team wasn't the right fit for him. He will be a major weapon for thenational team in the future, but for now he will be sitting on the bench as another player will replace him.

Nickolaus Dürr {Age: 22} (Sieberg Image)
Nickolaus was born in Sieberg, Felix and was another star player in the U-21 teams and he just turned 22. The youngest age the FFA would allow people to join the team. He is a weapon for sure in Sieberg as he is both the shooter and the passer. So like most star Felixian players he can do a multitude of things. Nickolaus will probably not start yet but he might be subbed in if the team needs extra firepower in a important match or if a player gets tired.

FWD (6)-

Simo Roni {Age: 25} (Stalliongrad HC Image)**
Simo is another great player that once played for Santa Maria City (and was also born there) and later moved to another team. He is a talented man with a skill set to watchout for if you are playing against. He might be small but he surprisingly has a moderately high level of strength and is unsurprisingly the fastest player in the whole team. He is accurate with shots from short range and he is great at crossing and passing. He will see the field in the tournament.

Marta Ventura {Age: 31} TAATO Image)
Marta Ventura was born in Santa Cruz, Felix. She even played in the local club, Nacional that was based in Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, when the Women's FCL joined with the FCL her team folded and she was left jobless. None of the teams in Felix wanted her services so she had to look abroad to find work. She eventually found a job with TAATO in the Ark league system, the smallest, yet most competitive league in the world. She did well in in the Ark club and has caught the eye of the head coach, so she has been called up. This is Ventura's chance to finally prove to the people back home she was indeed needed. Who knows, she might even go back to Felix.

Mikel Araboa {Age: 26} (Mandon United Image)
Mikel was born in Barcelona, Felix. Mikel Araboa was one of the main stars of the Felixian national team as he was one of the top goal scorers of the whole team in the BoF and was in the top five in the list in the World Cup qualifiers back in the 63 cycle. He is currently playing in Apox with the football club, Mandon United. He is agile, speedy and has uncanny way of scoring goals. He is accurate with shots and is good at passing. He is currently fighting for the starting job as forward.

Eutimio Salazar {Age: 24} (Ponyville United Image)
Euitimio Salazar is another great forward from Santa Maria, but unlike his counterpart, he decided to play for Santa Maria City, where he played football for years. After some successful seasons there he was bought by Ponyville United where he plays today. He is a talented man with great speed, shooting power and passing ability but sometimes loses the ball. He is a man to watch for as he will be used in a lot of counteroffensive operations in the game.

Yun Dong Lee {Age: 31} (Boston United Image)
Yun Dong Lee, born in Santa Fe, Felix, and he is one of two Korean Felixians in the national team. A experienced veteran at international football, well as experienced as you can get in Felix. Lee is also a good professional with a high work ethic and leadership skills to admire. He has a powerful but sometimes inaccurate shot. He will start in some games if the lineup requests more forwards than midfielders.

Constança Rios {Age: 28} (Lyon Image)
Constança is another female player in the national team. She was born in a small town called Portuguesa where, unsurprisingly, they speak Portuguese. She is a talented player with great speed, shooting ability, and if caught in a counterattack, she can easily defend well due to her physical style of play. She will start a game or two in this tournament.

Tohoko Sports

Taiyou 2, NSI 0

The Taiyouese football team picked up a big win last night, defeating the Northern Sunrise Islands 2 goals to nil. Kohara-san's team defeated the NSI following goals from Toyota-san and Hasegawa-san in the 3rd and 19th minutes. The remainder of the match saw the Taiyouese play possession-style football, keeping the ball away from the opposition, ranked 3rd in the most recent Campionato Esportiva rankings.

Next for Taiyou is Chun-nan, an unranked nation who lost 4 goals to 2 against Earo. 5 games remain in the group stage of the CE. That means 5 more opportunities for the Taiyou to prove that we can compete with the best of Esportiva.

Tohoko, Noburu Taiyou

The Republican Wrestling Conglomerate had arrived in Noburu Taiyou to begin their tour of Esportiva. A significant portion of the roster had gone on the tour, which was to kick off with a show at the famous Sumo Arena in Tohoko. The purpose of this tour was not only to expand the RWC internationally and make even more money for Mr. Abelino Milanesi Sagese, but also to put All Taiyou Pro Wrestling and the Sunrise Wrestling Federation in their place and assert Republican Exceptionalism once again.

Mr. Sagese was not a fool. While he knew that his "Car Crash" style worked in the Free Republics, he did not expect that style to work in front of a Taiyouese crowd. The Taiyouese wanted to see wrestling matches and probably weren't that interested in the talk-heavy shows that he usually put on. That's why he decided to go with a main event between the Burger brothers, Jason and Ricky. In the weeks leading up to the Taiyouese tour, a jealous Ricky Burger turned on his brother, who had been more successful in his singles career.

After interfering in his brother's match and costing him an opportunity to win the World Title, Ricky Burger came out the following week on the RWC television program and told the fans in the Free Republics just why he had turned on his brother:

Ricky Burger - For the past week, everywhere I go people have asked me the same question over and over again: Why Ricky Why? You ask it, as if you are entitled to an explanation! I have every right to do what I want, when I want and I don't owe nobody an explanation just because I feel like putting my little brother back in his place! That's what older brothers are for. But, I'll give you pieces of trash from Altochara an explanation anyway.

The crowd really got on him for insulting their hometown.

Ricky Burger - If you pieces of excrement want an explanation, I suggest you sit down and shut your holes RIGHT NOW!

That only made the crowd boo him even louder.

Ricky Burger - Now, as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted, my brother Jason has gotten a big head lately. For the last year, its been all about Jason this, Jason that. He's so busy chasing the World Title all the time that he's forgotten that we are the best tag team in the entire multiverse. Instead of focusing on us, he focused on himself and on giving all the Trailer Park Trash that exist to pay our salaries what they want.

That comment drew another round of very loud boos.

Ricky Burger - I've always done what's right for us and we've made plenty of ****ing money as the best tag team of all time. Yet, Jason thought that he could go out on his own and cut me out of the picture. Can you believe it? He actually thought I'd just sit idly by forever and cheer for him as he made himself a bunch of money instead of making US a bunch of money. Well, he was mistaken and I am going to beat some sense into him until he recognizes that I am right and gives up on his self-centered pursuit of the World Title. Some day, when he has come to his senses, he will thank me for it.

The comments by Ricky Burger cemented him as one of the top villains in the RWC and helped to set up a highly anticipated main event for the RWC's debut in Taiyou. But, his brother Jason would not let that stuff go by without a response of some kind...
Now fully independent former colony of the Federation of Free Republics

CHUN-NAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

It all simply started with a news announcement. "Gna Am is back!" said the papers from Chun-nan. Indeed, the Chun-nan Football Federation wanted to make their team go back to the fray known as the Campionato Esportiva. Thus, with a lot of work coming from Tomas, who had recently retired from Football and was now working as a coach at National University, as he scouted through the lands for players for the national team; Chun-nan is finally back, hopefully to kick some tail.

STADIUM
Image
Phoenix Road - Capacity: 65,000 seats

Home Stadium of four teams of the Chun-nan Football Pyramid, Shaokong Luneng of the First League, Fu-lo Alpina (crowd shown on the photo, after all F.L.A.), Haemai Construction and Haemai Parceiro, on the south of Chun-nan, the Phoenix Road is known as one of the two big stadiums of Chun-nan, siding with the Dragon Road at Quaoning, with both being around the 60,000 to 70,000 capacity, while all other stadiums of the country tend to have really smaller capacities. Thanks to Quaoning Guoan opposing the CFF on their return to the CE IX; the team will have to play at the Phoenix Road.

RP PERMISSIONS
Same stuff of NSI, to be entirely honest. Maybe the sole exception is that this team isn't really heated for cards. Well, Gna Am could take some yellow cards from taking his shirt off, but that's it.
This is Chun-nan. A puppet of Northern Sunrise Islands!

OOC: TIme in Nexxus Drako moves along much faster than real life, but uses the real life calendar depending on what the RL date is when an RP is written, because of this, sports teams travel through a trans dimensional warp to get to competitions in the future.

Group 1
Dandillis 1–0 German American States

Nexxus Drako 1–2 Tasrailia
5' Kevin Arland

The NexxusDrako Age

Kent Joseph's Column

So, international football starts again with the Campionato Esportiva IX.

The format is different to many other CEs with New Sideburn, current holders, going straight to the finals in The Royal Barangay and Buyan, and the rest of us going to qualifiers in a home and away system.

Anyway, we lost 2-1 at home to Tasralia, which is unfortunate, but alas, we seem to have lost a lot of our good play, maybe the trans dimensional warp mucked up or something.

Kevin Arland scored, making his all-time total 11, so he is the new record holder, 1 over Robert Hill.

Meanwhile, in Club football, all our teams in UICA cup first preliminary rounds were knocked out. Not good, but I guess our clubs are terrible.

I'm signing off now, there's a friendly match starting between Drako Dragons and Nexxie United.

Sidestory (Nexxus Drako's POV)

I woke with a start. It was 2am on January 29th 2014, and I had just heard what sounded like gunfire from outside the presidential housein Drako City. Skyalina was still lying next to me, fast asleep. I was hoping that the gunfire was nothing too serious, for if it was, I feared for the future of our unborn child.

I walked out to the balcony, and there were cars on fire all out the front, as well as dead guards and army personnel.

"Could this be a coup" I thought to myself, wondering if the people hated me, then I realized the public propaganda would make them love me.
"It must be rebels then" I thought again. So I walked over to Skyalina, and woke her up.

"We're under attack, Sky, we need to get out, now!" I said to her, in a calm yet alarmed fashion, to which she woke up, and got out fo bed slowly, so as not to put strain on her expanded stomach.

We moved quickly to the underground escape tunnel, where seven guards, the Finance, Sports and Science advisors and the chief justice were waiting.

The justice, a female human by the name of Julia Pearce, spoke first.

"Nexxus, glad you're here, we were pre alerted to the threat, but didn't warn you because-"

I cut Julia off mid sentence.

"Because you underestimated it. Warn me always, Julia, you never know, I might wind up dead because of things like that."

Julia nodded, then the Foreign Minster, a male dracon named Jorj Mykels came through the tunnel.

"Looks like plain rebels to me, no foreigners involved, which is good." he said, to which I nodded, and we walked through the tunnels, which lead to a special vehicle bay which would take us to Telas through a tunnel, roughly 75 kms away in a straight line but almost the entire nation away by road.

Postby Buyan » Tue Jan 28, 2014 8:55 am

“I am SICK and bloody TIRED to repeat the same remarks time and time again. Is that clear?! It has been made very clear in advance that Sakurada was the focal point of their attacks, that the guys on the wings will try to lure central defenders out of position to allow her to dive into the available space and that I want you, Dani on her back at all occasions. All. Occasions. If that’s too hard for you, you better crawl back from where you’ve come! You all have ten minutes to show you’re worth more than a kick in your behind. All of you!”

It wasn’t Sirius’ habit to use strong words and foul language at half-time, but the ‘demonstration’ presented by the national side had been despicable. With the performances in the World Cup qualifications in the back of their minds and the Campionato in their own Buyan at the horizon, many fans had gathered in the Bokstasstadionas and if the rumors were right, there were a few thousand in the pubs surrounding the stadium. Hope deemed it a good thing that they were finally, as a national side, fielded in the capital of the nation, although it was only a temporary solution. For the Campionato, three stadiums would be expanded while a fourth one was being erected as the new national venue for international football. Much to the disgust of Hope and the press, it wouldn’t be located in one of the major football cities, but rather on the remote island of Baskin. A solution which they had come up with to give no advantage to a particular squad or island of the archipelago, but if it would result in home games with no atmosphere at all, the Board probably shot in its own foot. With a bullet that would cost some thirty million mint, to be more exact.

Although, Hope realized, there hadn’t been a really excited tension around the field today either. When the tifo’s –something they had learned from a Mytanar, probably- and balloons had died down, the eleven actors on the pitch had given a poor performance. The rhythm was slow and too often, a Kazamatsurian foot stopped the passing sequences. Only once did the Hedgehogs add a little extra tension to the game, when Sil Moen slalomed past his direct opponent and scooped the ball in the box, but the header from Mattisson went so wide that it didn’t even result in a goal kick, but in a throw-in. Kazamatsuri had technically been the underdog before kick-off, but although they were considered by some as a bunch of second-tier Miyuzukians, they excited the neutral fans more often than the home team. Only Ulle Seber, one of the few he didn’t join his teammates in the underperformance, kept Sakurada and Kira away from the opening goal. With a little help from the woodwork, to be exact.

And judging by what he saw at half-time, Hope didn’t exactly feel as if the turnaround could be made after the break. The faces were gray, the cheeks red and no one who stood up to fire them all on. The captain’s ribbon had been transferred to Sverre Devold and although he had shown before that he could make the difference on the field, that didn’t translate to the dressing room yet. All eleven simply lurked around, drinking some hydrating water and sucking on a lemon’s peel. With a violent smash, Hope closed the dressing room, he had seen enough.

Highly paced, he legged through the tunnel to the pitch. Those of the bystanders who hadn’t sought comfort in half-time beer and burgers could witness how Smetona, Zermin, Dalmshelf and Hopp were engaged in a high-pace passing exercise, under the almighty eye of assistant coach Allersham. Within two minutes, Sirius saw more eagerness than in the complete first half of those who stood on the pitch. The recent successes –‘if one could call that already successes’, Hope thought- and the holiday period had made too many of them lazy, satisfied. Hunger. Lauding articles in the press had filled their bellies and there was no more hunger to perform, to move beyond their capacity and break the odds. It had inspired Hope already to field Seber in goal, but he should’ve completely shook up the team, he realized. Silently, the two men who made up the daily technical staff saw how the replacements did their best to show how ready they were.

“I think you’ll have to make some changes,” Allersham stated the obvious.
“I still decide on that,” Hope responded.

The reasons why Hope had been so short in patient on his players had been manifold. Of course there was their sub-par performance, but two thorns were aching on him a bit more. First of all, there was the statement from the Buyanese president, a clown who went by the preposterous name of Leader for Life, in yesterday’s newspapers. I expect Hope to qualify our nation for the tournament proper, of course. A Campionato in Buyan without our national team, that would be ridiculous. It is his task to bring our nation that glory. The subliminal message wasn’t even that hidden, he more and more felt as if some authorities wanted to get rid of him. His critic on the training accommodation given prior to this match hadn’t really helped in that respect, but it wasn’t Hope’s style to keep his mouth shut when people simply told him to. The opposite had brought him to who he was… ‘And where’, he realized.

But that wasn’t what worried him the most. Even if he couldn’t live up to the ridiculous local expectations –as it would mean that they needed to come out on top of both the Licentian Isles and Brenecia- and that would result in a preemptive end of his Buyanese time, he still had the Baptism of Fire title in his back pocket that would open the necessary doors. It rather was his assisting coach who worried him. After the last qualification game for the Cup of Harmony, Frederich Allersham had come clean towards me. He was the governmental inside man, the spy, the ears of the president, or whatever you’ld prefer to call it. Much against Frederich’s own will, it must be said. His nephew was making quite a career in the local governments and stood at the edge of a major promotion. Family ties ordered him to take up this task, or it would result in a downgrade of his nephew.

Hope understood that he would have to accept that. He wasn’t a stranger to some governmental meddling in sports affairs and as long as they could keep the secret services with intelligence such as injuries unknown to the press, he felt as if would hardly be harming him. Somehow, it had even strengthened the bond between him and Allersham, he felt. Allersham was a loyal man, who had shown not only to be loyal to his family and nation, but with his moves and decisions he had extended that loyalty to Sirius. Calling them blood brothers would be a bridge too far, but their cooperation was more than one between colleagues. Their teamwork at the Cup of Harmony, with the unexpected draw against West Angola, had been splendid and it was no wonder that Frederich had come to wave him goodbye at the airport when Hope went back to Paradystopia, to spend the holidays with family, away from the Buyanese pressure.

When Sirius set foot again at Buyanese ground three weeks later, there was no trace of his balding, yet vivid assistant. Despite a few calls and messages, he hadn’t shown up for the training camp but at the ultimate minute. Much against his habits, as he usually welcomed Hope every regular day with hot coffee in their crammed office in the buildings of the Buyanese Football Board, even if Sirius had come in too early. Yesterday, Hope had had enough of it and tried to start up a hearty conversation, but Allersham had dismissed him with some lame apologies. Something was bothering his assistant and the fact that he didn’t know what it was, let alone whether he could control it, was bugging Hope. A lot.

EXPERIMENTAL TEAM TAKES THE FIELD AGAINST BRENECIA

If the rumors are correct, only six of the eleven players that started in the opening match of the Campionato Esportiva will take the kick-off in Union Park. Despite the victory, through a late goal from Crassus Hopp, national manager Sirius Hope wants to create a new vibe in the national side. Only goalie Ulle Seber and outfield players Bartkus, Zemaitis, Naess, Moen and Devold have survived this massive change by the Paradystopian.

“We might have grabbed the three points, but only because lady luck decide to choose for our side. With all the respect for our opponent, but this never should’ve been a tight game. When playing at home, against a lower-ranked side, I simply want to see victories,” Hope declared, “and not everyone was aware of that. Some players need to be shook up. They entered the field as if they’ve made it already and the fans should be glad that they could see them. No one should take his spot as a starting player for granted.” Very clear and hard words, which were probably directed mainly to Mattisson and Tufte, who stood out in lack of enthusiasm. The former, who performed dreadful but could claim that he had to play on an island, refused to react but Tufte had a few words in store. “A first game is always difficult. Most of us had a lot of matches last year and to pick up that pace at once, with so little preparation time… It’s hard. But I respect the decision of the manager and will do everything to show I’m worthy of my spot.”

The question remains in how far this is wake-up call or a tactical alteration. Kazimieras Zemaitis and Sverre Devold were as poor as most of their teammates but kept their spot. No wonder as the Patriots’ old-school 4-4-2 allows some place for build-up for a wing attacker and the only substitute to Zemaitis is the reliable, but defensive Krupa. Secondly, we feel that Devold keeps his spot due to a lack of alternatives. No other attacking midfield has been admitted in the squad or it would be Wallenberg who is rumored to have training arrears. While at home Kazys Navickas, Piotr Kluszak and maybe even Magnus Cedar, Stefan Ladsell or Ivan Losokov are being considered, Hope left no selection in the mailbox of any of those. Time will show whether his adherence to Devold is justified, but we remind the readers of a similar preference to keep on fielding Havelund. It took Hope fifteen games to accept what everyone knew, that he didn’t has what it takes.

Ironically, it’s the same Elmo Havelund who will now reappear in the national squad. As far as we see, Hope holds on to his 4-2-3-1, although both outside midfielders could be considered as attackers as well. Goalscoring Crassus Hopp and Sil Moen will assist the long Havelund in attack. Quite a surprise, as Havelund hasn’t impressed us so far for the national side and has his head filled with transfer troubles at the moment. Didn’t Hope dare to stage the technically stronger Duco Dalmshelf for the first time? Or did he simply chose the better header, hoping that Zemaitis and Ignas Smetona get some balls in the sixteen. Indeed, Smetona picks up Refshauge’s spot but another Tjelberg player, Quinten Zermin gets fielded instead. Danilius Wreczius, a hero for champion Viztourzys but poor last week, gets on the bench, where he is joined by Tufte, who is replaced by fifth new face Jonas Englund.

Apart from the respective players, not everyone is evenly enthused by this move. “Hope is toying with our qualification chances,” analyst Johan Gredholm remarked, “by shoving away the responsibility towards his players. It was his job to take care of a sharp team prior to the first game and he failed to do so.” Off the record, some voices at the Buyanese Football Board agree with this observation. The audience, however, seems to be on Hope’s side as they have been disappointed by the meager game against Kazamatsuri, but will he keep their credit?

Sparks of Revolution - Part One

Skar sat at his desk in a small, inconspicuous office in downtown Oldem, lighting a cigar with his feet up on the desk. Whilst most of Old Guard didn't know it, he was effectively in charge, the buffoon King Reuben the First had nothing on him. He could have entire shopping centres blown up with a click of his finger. In fact, in the coming days, he would probably explode a few shopping centres, come to think of it.

For yes, he was yet again going to create a civil war in Old Guard and this time it would succeed, unlike all those that had gone before. He'd watched on as Lord Askain the Wise had been overthrown by Iskander, creeping back into the shadows, leaving Lord Askain to fend for himself after his two main lieutenants had disappeared, him and Richard the Strong.

Then Richard the Strong had abandoned him, saying Skar's plans had been too slow, too cautious, that they would never work. Richard had reconciled with Lord Askain, and they'd gone on to hatch a plot. Except they hadn't reckoned with the might and popular upstanding King Iskander had in Old Guard. Their plot had failed, and miserably too. Many of the surviving members of the Richard/Askain partnership had joined Skar when that one went tits up. He was the only one left out of the old order, and his plan would work.

Then Iskander had died, which had surprisingly affected Skar somewhat. Skar had secretly always hated Lord Askain, and had only been involved for the power and the certainty that he would have got rid of Lord Askain and become King. He would have probably served under Iskander, and then been King afterwards, peacefully, but, alas, it would never happen. He had however, had the foresight to see he would never win against Iskander, and waited until his death. And now King Reuben, averagely popular amongst the people, at best, was on the throne. Now was Skar's time to strike, his time to become King Skar the First.

He was interrupted from his reverie by one of his aides, Jacob the Mad entering the room. Jacob had been with him from the start, and was probably his most trusted lieutenant, he trusted him implicitly. Skar looked over at Jacob as he sat down,

"What do you want Jacob?" he asked, briskly. Jacob was unfazed by the apparent coldness, this was standard behaviour for Skar.

"Well, I reckon we're ready to begin the main phase." said Jacob, and a small grin crept across Skar's face.

"Oh good, are the numbers correct?"

"Indeed they are sir, Reuben is suitably irrelevant at this stage for us to begin."

"Excellent. Blitzkrieg tactics?" asked Skar, even though he had already made up his mind and he also knew what Jacob would say.

"Certainly sir, I thought that was always the plan? How about a nice little explosion to get things going?" Skar smiled in response, a smile so evil and terrifying that even Jacob was a little unnerved.

"I'll see to it," he said, standing up and hurriedly exiting the room.

The Puma Blog
Written by Steve Anginety

To know surprise off me, the Chiata Pumas floundered around and lost again, for the 12th time I think. Their opponent was highly ranked Estope. Of course, no matter what rank you have the Pumas will always be able to be easily defeated. However, somehow the Pumas were able to hold Estope to only one goal that was scored by Jacob Lawrence and assisted by Marco DeCruz. Surprisingly, it was not a very bad game for Chiata, although Ian Adams and Joseph Conn of the Pumas received yellow cards and James Wampler sustained a knee injury. The severity is unknown but by guess is that its a torn ACL by the way he fell. That leads us to the next question, can women play international football? In the Di Bradini Cup, Carol Cherry showed Chiata that they could after she assisted Steven Scrhoader for the Thunderstorms' only goal thus far. I am talking about this because with Wampler out undoubtedly for the rest of the cycle Jennifer Woodruf will play at Right Fullback.

With that aside it is my unofficial duty to give the starting lineup for the Chiata Pumas. Yip-de-do.

LF: Dwayne Rogerz
CF: Leo Cruz
RF: Ian Adoms
LOMF: Sam Finch
ROMF: Yussoud Riff
LDMF: Fill Rio
RDMF: Joseph Conn
LFB: Rob Boter
CFB: Erick Garyson
RFB: Jennifer Woodruf
GK: Garr Bricker

The Pumas will be playing Nui Hanai, who are unranked, so hopefully we wont lose by too many goals. Sorry for my negativity, but it wears down on you after six consecutive losses.
