The only way to have broad appeal is to resort to fighting generic brown Muslims in generic desert country as Captain Generic the generic US Marine. I'm more knowledgeable on Commonwealth armies and the Russian military than I am on the American military so naturally I would try to gravitate to those before the American military, but nobody wants to RP as soldiers that aren't American other than me.
Make up fictional countries?
I tried to make a miliRP once. It would have been based on a war between two made-up countries, Antediluvia and Precambria. The soldiers would have been conscripts, and instead of fighting, the focus would've been on bitching about the weather.
It got like one app.
