Sand blew through the streets wearing away at the buildings and people, rusting the occasional car and scourging the few hardy plants that managed to push their way through the cracking pavement. Worn, tired people wandered through the narrow streets framed on either side by short sandstone building going about their business and trading for what goods they could afford. Most people laid in the shade granted by open garages or the occasional tree waiting for the mid day sun to finish its daily task of baking the earth and just move on to bake some other part. These were the outer sprawl of the great city of Shann, capitol of the Shannra state and these haggard people were its worst off citizens.
A solitary truck rolled into the street standing in its bed were a few men in loose civilian cloths declaring their allegiance to the state and its god by wearing purple armbands around the right arm. Most of the men were from only slightly better off families, but they felt the need to show their unending support for the country in its current state by parading around town daring anyone, such as the rebels, to try anything. These few men who were so confident it their countries ability to provide and protect them were silence in a scant few moments by machine gun fire. the two in the bed were instantly killed by a spray of bullet from a near by balcony, while the driver brought the truck to a stop unsure of what had just taken place. he barely managed to bring the truck to stop and look out the back window when a bullet from a ally way wedged its self into his head.
A small swarm of men also wearing civilian close, some of whom felt the need to show their defiance by wearing their own gold colored arm bands pillaged the truck even as the sound of sirens wailing drew closer. When the Wailing of distance sirens turned into a near by police car cruising into the neighborhood the "rebels" had already left.
Prime Minister Allike glided through the corridors of the Shannra State Hall, his foot steps muffled by the purple carpet that wound its way through the silent corridors. Flanking this important man on the wall were various pieces of artwork purchased recently or earned by the crown in ages past each one had a plaque of how it was acquired beneath it and by whom, most could be traced by to the various kings of shann. The Prime minister himself was on his way to see the holder of that greatly diminished office of kingship, on his way their though the constant bowing of servants and salutes from other officials showed who was in charge of the country.
When the Prime Minister arrived at the great oak doors leading to the throne room, two servants hastily scurried to open the doors under the spiteful gaze of the Prime Minister. The doors had no more than made their audible wump than the prime minister strolled into the Throne room and locked gazes with the figurehead of the country. The King slouched upon his throne and gazed down at the spindly and pale man who held domain over his country, the king inwardly scowled at the Prime Minister but managed a smile and he, the Prime Minister, did the same. The Prime Minister started by mockingly saying "Your majesty, I must bring a matter to your attention before are nation tears its self apart in the wallowing of the poor and improvised."
"Are you referring to the rebels operating in the city and country side or the strain the suffering poor are putting on the nation?"
The Minister Frowned but continued "I am referring to the rebels and their so called prophet, I believe we should send a clear message to the people and make a public statement on the issue to ease the public mind when we start taking more preventive measures. It might also help the faithful to see their favored king make such a appearance, trusting it Zaros plan for us all."
Shaking his head the king responded "What measures are these that must be taken?"
"Military action, obviously"
"What of our Neighbors and Enemies, what will the world think of this. What if a country steps up and supplies these rebels or agrees with their message, freedom is a very persuasive mimetic."
"Enough, These matters of state have already been decided-"
"behind close doors"
"I ask you to make a public statement that is all, not your opinion on the matter."
after a few moments in silence the king nodded accepting the state of his position, the Prime Minister smirked "Its good that you agreed, a statement as already been prepared for you to make." After that the Prime Minister glided out of the room in silence while the king sat upon his ornate and useless throne and contemplated the fate in store for him.
Nations of the world,
Here the cry of the humbled people of Shannra for too long have we accepted our fate has poor, sick and enslaved. The Wealthy sit behind close doors deciding our fate keeping us corralled and down, we will accept it no more. The Slavery of countless thousands, the blood games, the wars, the oppressive religion designed to keep us down must all be abolished and remade. We can not face their cruel hand of our lords alone we ask for support in this war for our basic rights, we ask for help from anyone willing to respond in saving ourselves and rebuilding a better nation for ourselves.
