Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

TSP Declares State of Emergency Amid Suspicions About Empire Plot
December 25 2013

Capital District, The South Pacific -- Just as the Coalition of The South Pacific was starting to wind for the holidays, a shock came to the Cabinet as an anonymous nation lodged a tip to the Coalition's Cabinet; the tip, which was brought to the attention of the public this morning, alleged that TSP's delegate-elect was actually Minineenee of The Empire. Minineenee is renowned internationally for her leadership in the Empire's occupation of The East Pacific in 2008, and her involvement other previous coups and coup attempts. In light of this, Delegate Belschaft took measures to ensure that she was not able to reach the delegacy until an investigation could be conducted. The Committee for State Security declared a State of Emergency.

After the Cabinet issued a statement about the situation on both the RMB and the fora, TSP residents were uncertain of what to think and many hoped that the allegations would be rendered spurious by the CSS' investigation. However, several inconsistencies in Escade's IP address were discovered and thus the investigation will continue until a definitive answer about whether or not Escade can be trusted is reached.

Delegate-Elect Escade has yet to take the in-game delegacy, and her response to the allegations were that of shock and confusion once she woke up. She denied the claims and Cormac Stark refuted the theory that Minineenee was an alias of Escade by pointing out that both nations were in the WA at the same time during Gatesville's occupation of Osiris. Furthermore, Escade illuminated on the fact that the nation that tipped off the cabinet, Axelnod, was blackmailing her in-game: Axelnod was then ejected and banned from TSP by Belschaft.

The CSS investigation team has yet to issue a public explanation about why Escade's IP has a history of inconsistencies, but concerns about Escade being Minineenee have been relieved by Cormac's evidence. The investigation and declared state of emergency has also sparked a controversy in their own right: several citizens, such as Cormac himself, have questioned whether or not the operation is constitutionally legal.

As for Lazarus' stance on the matter, Milograd had a few thoughts to share. "I don't think Escade is Neenee, but if a threat is brought to TSP it should be known that Lazarene support is available to them if they request it and need it," he said. "We'd hate to see it come down to that, but obviously we intend to to maintain our treaty obligations with the Coalition and extend our best wishes during this period of uncertainty."

TSP and Lazarus signed a non-aggression pact earlier in our Chairman's term.

Hope Escade is well.

Being the butt of a bad propaganda attack is never fun. It takes a lot of fun out of the game.

Elections for Vice-Chairman — Potential Successor to Chairman Milograd — Underway

Image
Citizens assemble in the People's Congress to observe the debate between Kazmr, Funkadelia, and Hobbes.

The Forbidden City, Lazarus — Chairman Milograd's reign over the People's Republic is by no means approaching its conclusion just yet, but yesterday he did announce that Harmoneia was stepping down from her position as Vice-Chairman. This marks the first time in the PRL's history that the there has been a vacancy in the Chairmanship or the Vice-Chairmanship that is unlikely to be filled by one of the PRL's two founders, and this occurrence has paved the way for an unusually heated contest for the position.

Each of the three leading candidates is widely popular in the PRL's ranks. Governor Funkadelia, Governor Kazmr, and LLA Officer Hobbesistan are expected to compete against each other in this election. Funkadelia boasts an impressive track record as the Cultural Commissioner for Lazarus, a successful campaign as an army member, and a reputation for being a dedicated member of the region. Similarly, Governor Kazmr has been well-received for his work with the Lazarene Gazette and for being a consistent source of loyalty and comedic relief. Hobbes has served as the Marshal for the Security Council, a LLA Officer, and most recently played a leading role in the PRL's upgrade to its new forum software.

The candidates will need those qualifications too, because Milograd openly expressed his high expectations for the Vice-Chairmanship after opening the elections forum.

"The VC is an immensely important part of the PRL, and there's a reason I have been hesitant to appoint anyone but Harm to it before. I expect a lot of dedication, skill, and loyalty from a VC: they have to serve as the Speaker of the PC and as an overall leader in regional affairs. I find that the new Vice-Chairman is inactive here but active elsewhere, they'll be removed from their post swiftly. The Vice-Chairmanship is more than just a fancy title to add to your signature, and it's not a job that should be anything less than your top positional priority on NS.

I don't tolerate inactivity in high-ranking positions, let alone the Vice-Chairmanship. Your job security will be secured through your work and dedication."

The elections also stirred rumors about the potential successor to Milograd; Milograd was Harmoneia's Vice-Chairman and was later appointed to as the leader of the People's Republic. Earlier this month, Funkadelia accidentally disclosed that Milo planned to appoint his successor on the 100th day of his delegacy, so this fact in correspondence with the vacancy in the Vice-Chairmanship contributed to the theory that the winner of this election may be the next leader of Lazarus. The constitution does not guarantee that Vice-Chairmen shall be designated successors to the delegacy, nor does it state that they must be endorsees, but precedent has thus far suggested that the VC is a preparatory role for the delegacy.

Lazarenes Migrate to Superior Forum
by Informational Party Member Bodobol [Journalist Team]

Scarlet Square — Citizens of Lazarus are rejoicing and migrating en masse after the completion of the new forum built by our trusty First Tiger.

In an effort commissioned and sponsored by Comrade Milograd, First Tiger Hobbes constructed a new forum for Lazarenes to gather at and converse, with a modicum of help from South Pacifican Hileville. The effort to construct the new forums took a little over a day, completing construction last Saturday, 21 December late in the evening. Those contributing to construction agreed that the job was both tiresome and frustrating.

A vibrant shade of red was chosen for the PRL's new and shinier forum, although Comrade Milograd admitted that he was not particularly fond of the shade, which some citizens agreed to, and that the forum may undergo a repainting in the future. The First Tiger added in three new paint options for individuals to choose from soon after the forum finished construction.

Those entering the new forum had to manually reapply via a short form to have their respective titles and permissions reinstated. The administrators of the forum worked swiftly to reinstate said titles and the issue is mostly resolved.

After much hard work and toil, the new forum is alive and bursting with activity. Most of the early issues have been sorted out and the First Tiger's work has not gone unappreciated, him receiving many deserved compliments and thanks from both within and outside Lazarus. Truly, First Tiger Hobbes is an admirable worker and embodies the spirit and work ethic of a true Lazarene.

Five @ A Time: Lazarene News Notes

Lazarene News Notes is an occasional program that glimpses over recent happenings in Lazarus. We do so five bullet points at a time.

THE NEWS:

1. After doing some research into previous board statistics, it was discovered that this month has been the most active month in Lazarus' entire 10-year history in terms of board posts, registrations, new topics, online users, and individual visits. Milograd announced this in the citizen's forum and this was met with much pride, though Harmoneia reportedly did something "morbid and gory" to Milo for his role in breaking the records that were set during her delegacy in 2005.

2. The Judicial District is performing a mock trial, with heavy emphasis on mock, of The Grinch. He allegedly stole Christmas and the prosecution hopes to see him "summarily executed" or "sent to Dali's Gulag". Governor Jack is overseeing the court with a black eye.

3. After a close election against PrussianEmpire, Horse has been elected to the Lazarene People's Congress.

4. The LLA and the Forces of Wintreath are currently deployed in Christmas.

5. Comrade Hobbes resigned as SC Marshal due to his increased administrative workload. Communist Eraser, who is also known as Codger, has rejoined the region and was offered the position by Milograd. Milograd accidentally masked him as Chairman for several moments before realizing the mistake and reverting his mask to a citizenship mask.

Always good to hear Milograd's thoughts on the security of TSP. Or as they used to be called 8 months ago, "Harmonious Truths". :p

Congrats on the new forum, it is very nice I must say.

Successful Liberation of Coalition of Leftist Comrades

Postby The Lazarene Liberation Army » Sat Jan 04, 2014 10:54 pm

Be resolute, fear no sacrifice and surmount every difficulty to win victory !!!

Liberation of Coalition of Leftist Comrades from Right Wing Uprising Occupation
1 / 5 / 2014

Lazarus is pleased to announce that it, along with the UDL, Spiritus, EPSA, Texas, UK, E-Army, and Wintreath liberated Coalition of Leftist Comrades tonight from Fascist occupation tonight. The lead delegate had 25 endorsements at the time of the move, and a total of 29 defenders managed to move into the region before update despite multiple last-second netsplits threatening the operation entirely. The lead nation from Texas became the new delegate.

Our military channel, usually home to no more than twelve nations, was pleased to witness 35 operatives cooperating in seeing this success realized tonight. We also acknowledge and applaud Tim's triggering for the operation, and we applaud all troops who skillfully overcame the challenge that IRC's errors brought to us by following us despite being disconnected.

This mission marks the second recent cooperative defender success on the battlefield, following last week's victory in Asia. The LLA was happy to work with its allies across the game to make this liberation from Fascist occupation possible. Lazarus also extend its best wishes to the Red Fleet -- they intend to help work alongside us in future missions in defense of regions from Fascist occupation and are presently rebuilding themselves.

In Solidarity,
The LLA
