I mean harmony is good. Just that the Confucian way of ataining such harmony is a bit unnatural and too rigid to be even described as harmonious. I applaud those that do attempt to modernize his works though, while I do respect his works, I disapprove of much of them. And I would call it relativism. It's cultural and political dissonance. It's this dissonance that makes it hard for people to understand each other East and West.
Well I guess being unnatural is better than the alternative, however, I isn't really suitable to designate an unharmonious mean to achieve a harmonious result. The means to get to the ends seems unusual. Maybe it's an internal dissonance for me, since I envision harmony as a flowing concept. They did base their philosophies from Kongzi's works, but gave their own unique flair.

Look at it this way. Human beings are born to rot and die. One day everyone will wither until their bodies are no longer capable of metabolic function. When you think about the grand scheme of things, is it worth it to hate yourself for trivial reasons?

Quite! Mencius was a Confucian scholar, but the tones of his writings differ greatly. ^^ No longer do we see the despotism of the patriarch, but something more free-flowing and egalitarian. This culminates in the ancient Chinese classic Liao Fan's Four Lessons, where we see Taoism, Buddhism, Confucius and Mencius all interwoven together for something rather beautiful and definitive of the entire Chinese outlook on good life, morality and sound governance.Luxew wrote:For a my friend, Iustus Sumus.
