The players:
GK 1 James Hemsworth 26-The top goalkeeper in Greater Watford, James Hemsworth has matured in recent years into a reliable force between the posts. His positioning is not always perfect, but his technique in goal makes him an effective #1.
DEF 2 Thomas Razdeski 31-An effective defender and vice-captain, Razdeski has a mature head, allowing him to lead the back line effectively. His main weakness is his pace, but good positioning and tackling make up for this.
DEF 3 Damien King 30-Another battle-wise defender, Damien King was effective at club level, and is steadily improving internationally. A good tackler and has strength, but is weaker on the ball.
DEF 4 Ryan Warthon 24-Young, but still developing, Warthon is a useful player on the right-hand side. Able to deal with many aerial threats, he is a vital tool at defending set pieces, even if his technique is still developing.
MID 5 Aaron Smith 24-An aggressive left midfielder, Smith can be quick to get the ball forward and get back to the defence. Effective down the left wing, however his tackling and passing isn’t perfect, and he is a volatile player.
MID 6 Fabrizio Fazzarini 32-Fazzarini was one of Greater Watford’s top midfielders in the 00’s and despite his age, is in the starting XI for Greater Watford. He has impeccable technique and passing, although age is affecting his physical side.
MID 7 Peter Tilder 27 -Like Smith, he is an impulsive midfielder, the box to box player in the centre of the pitch. He always looks to win the ball, and distributes the ball well, however he is an ineffective dribbler, and is prone to getting booked.
MID 8 Samuel Harris 20At 20 years old, he is the youngest of the 1st 11. He has phenomenal pace on the right wing, and is an exceptional dribbler. While his long balls and shots aren’t perfect, he has time to improve into an expert winger.
ATT 9 Mario Mannetti 22-Only 22, and already the captain, Mannetti is the star of the team. Able to create chances from nowhere, he is a top shooter and dribbler. Like many strikers, he isn’t great off the ball, but has enough potential to be an all-time legend in Greater Watford.
ATT 10 Freddy Lincoln 25-In the centre of attack, the tall, imposing Lincoln is always charging at the defence. While he doesn’t have the pace of many modern strikers, a traditional striker, good with his head and feet is a useful asset for any international side.
ATT 11 Ylvin Serven 24-Serven, antoher reasonably young player is also a valuable asset for the Hornets. With an incisive pass and through ball, he can make up for his lack of aerial ability by setting up Mannetti and Lincoln, as he has done before.
GK 12 Ian Wall 35-For 10 years, Wall was the top goalkeeper in Greater Watford. At 35 years, he can easily deputise for Hemsworth, and is an effective #2 goalkeeper, having played a few internationals already.
DEF 13 Eugene James 35-Almost 36, James was a surprise inclusion in the squad. He is a mature head in a sometimes impulsive squad, and can calm down a jumpy, edgy defence with his presence.
DEF 14 Nacho Torli 32-A rare breed of defender who is capable of shooting well, Torli can play in defence or attack, although the latter has never been utilised. He isn’t an out-and-out defender, but is a useful utility player for the Hornets.
DEF 15 William Wilkinson 26-Another defender who came through the youth ranks in Greater Watford’s football academies, Wilkinson has developed at club level into a pacey defender, suited to Greater Watford’s style. Not quite a starter, but definitely good enough for the 23-man squad.
MID 16 Ben Rogers 25-A ball winning midfielder in the box, Rogers supplies the energy in the game where others can struggle to find it. Not as technically gifted as his teammates, but none the less a strong player.
MID 17 Jan Regan 27 -Regan is another midfielder who shows vision, if not outright technique on the pitch. As it his, he isn’t yet strong enough for the starting XI, but he definitely merits an inclusion in the full squad.
MID 18 Louis Revson 29-Famed for being an effective substitute, Revson shows good dribbling skills and pace in the centre of the pitch. He can blitz pass the defence, although he isn’t an effective attacker, which can be problematic for the Hornet’s attacking style.
MID 19 Kyle Kerney 21-Another youthful midfielder, who shows more physical skill than mental skill. Kerney is still learning the arts of club and international football, and will probably become an effective asset in the future, although this World Cup maybe too soon for him.
ATT 20 Milo Gregory 19-A young striker with a lot of pace, Gregory is commonly played near the end of the game. Only 19, Gregory still has years to mature into the footballer he can become, but for now, he is learning the art of international football at the top level.
ATT 21 Cameron Rastersson 26-Tall, and an aerial threat, Rastersson takes after many of the traits of Serven. Never a stand out figure at club level, Rastersson has muscled his way into the squad, and duly delivered in his debut, scoring a late goal.
ATT 22 Dennis Johnson 24-Only 1 cap so far, Watson doesn’t possess the skills of his teammates up front. Nevertheless, he can be considered a very good striker at club level, and may get a chance depending on circumstances.
GK 23 Gordon Watson 22-Nobody ever wants to use their 3rd keeper, but rather than throw on an older keeper, Greater Watford have allowed Gordon Watson to take a place in the squad, thus giving him a chance to develop in the top international competition, even if game-time will be limited.

The team typically play in a 3-4-3 formation, and the players 1-11 are typically the starters. Attackers are responsible for taking set pieces.

Some Specific Player Info

Fitz Hall
Fitz Hall is a star without a doubt. He is the heart and soul of the national team and is completely worthy of the Captain’s armband. A solid center-back and a fantastic motivator, Hall might not be the most talented man on the pitch, but he has, without a doubt, the most heart. Though primarily a defender, Fitz has the ability to take advantage of set pieces and score late game winners with his head.

Fillip Addiks
Fillip Addiks is the unspoken hero of the team. He sees the pitch like a chessboard and can predict the motion of players before the players think of what they want to do. His great ball movement set’s up the plays the lead to the goals that lead to the win. Great hustle on defense and great passing make him the perfect fit for the anchor position of the team’s diamond.

Briand and Bruce Smith
These twin brothers have been playing soccer together since they learned to walk. In local youth leagues, the brothers learned to communicate their actions on the pitch through subtle body movements. This incomparable communication leads the two to be able to execute fantastic passing play, making them the obvious choice to anchor the center midfield.

Spiel: Dravid Scott, national hero, is gone. In choosing a replacement, the AFB decided to follow their head this time instead of their heart, choosing the vastly experienced Magnus Fjelden, who comes into this job with 20 years of experience. Gavin Hughes was chosen as assistant manager, after leaving Mandon United at the end of last season by mutual consent. However, in terms of personnel with regards to the team, little has changed. Matthias Sindelar is still very much the captain, and there is only one change, with the inexperienced, but old Oliver Donliver going out for the experienced, but old Will Fich. There is a more defensively shift tactically, with Fjelden opting to play a 4-5-1 formation, with Tregajorran leading by himself up front.

Manager: Mukalo Rotanapai
After winning the post in an ill-conceived reality TV show during the eighth Campionato Esportiva, Mukalo has completely revamped the national side bringing in a lot of young players and completely overhauling the tactics. The 49 year old Vaian has 19 years experience in the top flight of Vaian football. 11 of those with Wakita United with whom he acheived 3 league titles. It is hoped he can bring some of this success to the Paradystopi team.
Assistant Manager: Chester Kat
Mukalo's assistant was a fellow competitor on the aforementioned show. However, during the filming, the pair struck up a strong friendship and the rest as they say, is history. Hailing from the small Paradystopi colony of Mousebane Islet, Chester was previously manager and captain of the team Scratchpost Hillock who will play their first season in the Paradystopi league next year.

A permanent fixture of the Paradystopi football team and now it's first choice for captain, Kjn is most commonly known for his huge stature and trademark grizzly beard. At just over 7' tall (c. 2.15m), he is truly dominating in the air and his arm-span alone can cover a large percentage of the goal. He stereotypes the term 'gentle giant' with a very calm demeanor which is sometimes mistaken for passivity. A workhorse who leads by example.
Booch Kumping #22
– Djnamo Sabrjk – age 27
Despite the perennial argument over whether Kinshish is or should be a de facto part of Paradystopia, the Kinshish goalkeeper Booch is the nation's usual second choice. Booch has had little opportunity to play in the national team colours owing to being constantly in Kjn's shadow but with being goalie at Paradystopi regular performers Djnamo Sabrjk, his credentials are well in order.

Given what he's up against, Jon has accepted more of an apprentice role with the national team. A good prospect for the future if a little rough 'round the edges presently.

Rhosh is a cautious young man who will stick to the task at hand as though his life depends upon it. A little cumbersome with possession but good at dispossession often more by luck than judgement.

'Marv' is a indefatigable prankster. Chirpy and the eternal optimist, Despite being a technically able defender, he likes to push forward and challenge opponents with an array of tricks. Results can however, vary.

Edward is one of the old guard now and a solid player. Strong and strategically-minded, he can see and quell threats before they begin. Stoic in his approach, he has good chemistry with Kjn and the pair can choreograph a steadfast defense.
Astrall Standstall #4
– Djnamo Sabrjk – CB - age 25
Another seasoned international, Astrall can at times be a little wayward. Frequently he'll sacrifice positioning in order to challenge a player. A bit of an oddball but generally good-natured and a respected defender despite his tactical short-comings.
Evelyn Paradys #2
– Lhaydifee Artisans – CB - age 26
Originally Communadi, Evelyn (and several others) defected to Paradystopi during the bouhaha of the Esportivan war. She has no problems with being seen as a Communadi stereotype and often plays up to it in a twisted humour sort of way. Strong, aggressive, single-minded and precise, she is arguable the best defender in Paradystopia currently.
Hari Selk #14
– Nhorton vo Mirrun – RB - age 23
Hari is another player, like Booch, who seems doomed to spending his entire international career on the bench or playing the closing minutes of games. Nippy and good in the air, his usual use is as an additional goal threat in close games without sacrificing a back four.
Rhuth Savhis #28
– Black Star ve Kwjg - RB/CB – age 24
Rhuth is an interesting personality. Her pinpoint long-passing and natural talent as a playmaker make her more akin to a midfielder. Quiet, thoughtful and somewhat of an activist. She turned down a transfer to the Lhadyfee Artisans on the grounds she believes an all-female team needlessly sexist.

'Jeeves' has a little experience now within the national team and is maturing into a fine defensive midfielder. Technically, a solid defender although his slight build leaves him lacking the raw strength necessary for a full back. Not afraid to have a speculative effort at goal even if his accuracy leaves a lot to be desired.
Rhoddri Tuz'rirhan #24
– Alsabaszi - CDM – age 24
The second defensive midfielder on the roster is a real brute. A relentless powerhouse whose tackles can often be felt in the stands. Rhoddri is most often used as a pre-defensive wall when the match plan revolves around maintaining a lead.
Khalvin Horros #25
– Dzias Riot - LM – age 21
Khalvin is a quick wing player with a decent cross. Sadly over-shadowed by Ms. Khayr, Khalvin is a capable midfielder with an infectious optimism. He'll be happy with 30 seconds on the pitch and will give 110% for every moment.
Khorinnha Khayr #33
– ~~Whilliumiborough Swagger~~ Rogglebo TU (Earent) – LM/LCM - age 19
Following a sensational debut season with Whilliumiborough, Khorinnha won young player of the season within the Paradystopi league. Agile and skillful, she typifies the renowned flair of her club. More than happy to challenge opposing players but also knowing the correct moment to loop in a cross. A threat to any defense.
Morgana Foloris #7
– ~~Lhaydifee Artisans~~ Gwinevra Barbarians (Apox) - CM/RCM – age 25
Since defecting from the Commune, Morgana has become a driving force within the Artisan squad and a respected Paradystopi midfielder. Not quite as brusque as her country-mate, Evelyn Paradys, she is still headstrong and powerful. A meticulous tactician, she is often the vocal force upon the pitch.
Yani Flodrantezt'rirhan #8
– Whilliumiborough Swagger - CM – age 26
Yani is a vitriolic player, aggressive and hot-tempered. His major attributes are his dribbling speed and strength in the air. After a lacklustre season with the Jimmies, he's be lucky to see any decent time on the field this time around.

Having played his first season on the Nhorton first team, Kharon is beginning to make a name for himself in Paradystopi football. An ebullient personality but a calm head when it matters. He's also shaping up to be a skilled set-piece taker.

Jsha (pronounced eye-sha) is arguably the most curious selection for the squad. The nineteen year old from a second division club being practically unknown. Mukalo Rotanapai's reasoning, 'She's the best right winger Paradystopia currently has.' You know what?, he's got a point ...
H.R.H. Princess Jojo of the Kinshishish #15
– ~~Lhaydifee Artisans~~ Crystopolis City (The Crystal Empire) – CAM/CM - age 17
The youngest of the Kinshishish princesses, Jojo is the archetypal tomboy. From an early age she reveled in competing against her older brother and was frequently admonished for her 'unbefitting behaviour' of challenging the local Kinshishish children to sporting contests. After been accepted into the Lhadyfee Artisan academy, she has begun to flourish as a footballer and if she continues to progress as the same rate, a long and illustrious career.
Viaddin Tarcka #13
– Djnamo Sabrjk – CAM - age 26
Viaddin Tarcka is Paradystopia's most well known footballer. Highly respected amongst his peers and an excellent midfielder. Viaddin has twice turned down the captaincy of the national team on the grounds that he wouldn't want the responsibility to affect his game. A long-shot specialist, accurate passer, clever technician. Viaddin is a truly great all-round player.

Forwards
Ghengjs Aafjlh #27
– Red Star ve Mirrun – age 25
Another permanent reserve player, Ghengjs is strong and tall, providing defenders with plenty of problems from corners and set-pieces. A little sluggish in comparison to the other forwards, Ghengjs makes up for this with a blisteringly powerful shot which, if on target, can catch dozing defenses off guard.
Vincent Talakovik #32
– Ozkha Rovers – age 28
Vincent's selection raised a few eyebrows, more so than the abundance of under 21 squad members. The lynchpin of Ozkha Rovers attack, Vincent is a reliable supporting forward capable of making the right pass at the right moment.
Luke Benjamin #10
– Nhorton vo Mirrun - STR – age 20
Having become somewhat of a veteran of international football for Paradystopia at a young age, Luke is heralded to go down in the history books as one of Paradystopia's greatest players. A dangerous turn of pace, an accurate and powerful shot and a composed demeanor, Luke is the talisman for Paradystopi glory.
Jay-jay Jabez #30
– Djnamo Sabrjk – STR/CF - age 17
Jay-jay really is an unknown quantity. Youthful exuberance and seemingly limitless energy are the two main factors in his favour. However, when he plays well, he's among the best young strikers in the game. On a bad day, he'll be lucky to complete a pass successfully.
Kjn Pitinuus #11

Reaching the twilight of his international career, Kjn is beginning to focus more upon coaching and management. Though he's lost a few feet of pace since his younger years, his international experience is very welcome in what is a very young team.

"The Pointy Thing"
With a new manager comes new tactics and Mukalo Rotanapai, along with assistant Chester Kat, has devised this strategum for Paradystopia's World Cup campaign. The tactics hinge upon a solid defense with a flexible, yet spearheaded attack. The five-strong defense acts as both a blockade and a base for attack with forward impetus coming from the wings or the centre, via the intermediary defensive midfielder. The team will hold onto possession, playing short pass-and-move football around the defense looking for the opportunistic surprise attack or deliberate slow build-up play. The midfield and forwards will act as one unit, scouting for space and often making diagonal runs to tease defenses apart. The two central midfielders actually playing on their 'wrong' side to facilitate strikes on their stronger foot after cutting inside from the wingward runs. The central attacking midfielder will occupy the centre of this triangle, or 'pointy thing' (with the striker at the forward point) and their job will be mostly to support the attacks happening around them, from 'within'.

Perhaps the 2nd greatest player in Taeshani history, Juniper continues to follow the tutelage of another former player in Giroux. Everyone knows Juniper will take over when Giroux is done, but it could be many a season until Giroux does so. In the meanwhile Juniper is still playing for Bayern and will continue to do so until he feels ready to retire. After all it is a hard job to quick.

Jackson grew into his starting position during the last qualifying campaign. He may not have led the team back to the promised land, but he did all he could to take them there. Only one goal let in the whole qualifiers, which to be honest should have been enough.

23 - Logan Watson - X Island Marauders 11 Caps, 26 Years Old
Given a chance to start at the Copa Rushmori Logan performed well and looks to be a viable option in case of injury.

25 - Jacob Martin - Atlantea Hurricanes 5 Caps, 26 Years Old
The former U21 keeper and now third stringer on the national team, Jacob Martin is also a capable keeper in his own right.

DEFENDERS

3 - CB, Jordan Jaffacake - Moresville FC 134 Caps, 9 Goals, 28 Years Old
The strong center back is the focal point of the Taeshani defense and coming into his late years in the back four many hope he can continue to be a threat on corners and anchor the back four like the beast he is.

4 - RB, Peter Fasnacht - Los Riosa Monstas 89 Caps, 28 Years Old
On the right side of the defense the speedy wingback Fasnacht will likely become the fourth member of the backline to get his 100th cap during the upcoming campaign. His strong crosses and ability to pick a man is what keeps him on the team.

7 - LB, Jeremiah Longwaters - FC Gordonopia (United Gordonopia) 131 Caps, 1 Goal, 27 Years Old
On the left side is another speedster in Jeremiah Longwaters. A good passer of the ball many see him as the more dangerous of the two wingbacks as Fasnacht grows a bit older and Longwaters continues to be a specimen of man.

9 - CB, Lydie - Moresville FC 133 Caps, 5 Goals, 28 Years Old
On the left side of central defense is the smaller of the two center halves in Lydie. The general of the defense, Lydie is the brains behind the operation. With her husband, Jordan providing the brawns.

2- Eddie Styles - Mt Ceabring Thunder 63 Caps, 1 Goal, 28 Years Old
On the bench their is lefy Eddie Styles. This will likely be his last attempt through qualifying, but for a long time he has been a stalwart off the bench and hopefully he gets a few more caps to end his international career.

15 - Tyler Provyay - Knightspurs 3 Caps, 26 years Old
With the international retiring of Grant Wetter that meant a new center back had to be brought up. With a lacking of center backs in the group of players in the international system, Tyler Provyay a recently converted Fullback has taken up the backup centerback position. After an injury two years ago his speed has declined, but he is still a strong enough player that he makes a viable option at center back.

21 - Max Toledo - Mt Ceabring Thunder 5 Caps, 26 Years Old
Also making his debut on the full national team is wingback type Max Toledo who will replace Gloria Walters. He has the ability to run down the field like a mad man, and is a good option on corner kicks.

MIDFIELDERS

6 - LM, Aaron Conrad - Blacklake Blues 74 Caps, 3 Goals, 29 Years Old
Returning to the starting lineup will be Aaron Conrad. The difference that is the team has moved from the 4-4-2 to the diamond 4-4-2. Meaning Conrad has to adapt to the left side position fast or the tigers will be at his heels.

8 - CAM, Ender Wiggin - Nautico (Whirl Islands) 189 Caps, 101 Goals, 30 Years Old, CAPTAIN
The real shocker of the new roster list is the movement of Ender Wiggin from striker to playmaker. Sure he has for years played the position for the B squad, but now he has permanently been moved to the position. The hope from the coaching staff is that with more strikers on the pitch the team might score more.

12 - RM, Andrew Müller - Arçon (Saugeais) 75 Caps, 2 Goals, 28 Years Old
Not moving around much will be Andrew Müller who continues to lay claim to the starting right side position. With a strong ability on corner kicks and a sparky passing nature he is a spark in the midfield.

After a season awkwardly bumbling in a more forward position the real winner with the transfer back to the old formation is Tyler Icicle who will be enabled to move back to his deep lying box to box position and hopefully return to his playmaking days.

The major player off the bench last campaign was Mark Tlumach who will likely get minutes lost to Jeremi Krieder now that he is also on the bench, but Tlumach is a nice speedy left footed winger off the bench.

Starting during the Copa Rushmori was of vital importance to Grant Fauejeau. Over the few games he clearly was able to gain some confidence in himself at the international level and this will likely show in the upcoming qualifiers.

Also along for the ride is Karl Llana. Mostly just to get experience with the national team as a future likely starter or bit player.

19 - Adain Nostradamus - Ojian Orangemen 4 Caps, 24 Years Old
A very fast wingback who can not only play on the wing but is a viable option for the defense and even possibly as a striker. He will not likely get much time, but for the future of the national team he is a likely star.

22 - LM, Jeremi Krieder -Ojian Orangemen 30 Caps, 26 Years Old
The real loser on the team from the lineup changes is Jeremi Krieder. He will no longer be starting with Ender Wiggin moving, but he will likely get a lot of good minutes of the bench and a spot start here or there.

Hector's been in charge since World Cup 62, and Farfadillis hasn't looked back since. When he took up the job, Farfadillis was a rather middling team that had just somewhat exploded and almost qualified to the World Cup. His first cycle was not a success - Farfadillis played poorly and finished well below expectations. However, he was accidentally not fire and continued for the AOCAF Cup. Farfadillis, who were playing at home, made it to the semifinals and got a third place. Due to that historic AOCAF Cup, he continued for another cycle. He not only got Farfadillis to the World Cup in that cycle, but he also got them to the quarterfinals... somehow! The following AOCAF Cup he'd achieve another third place, and he'd be left out of World Cup 64 due to an unexpected loss against East Shipensburg, in which some bad referee decisions changed the outcome of the match. He was then given an ultimatum: He'd have to get out of the AOCAF Cup group stage. He did not, but he once again was accidentally not fired. He continued another cycle and got Farfadillis to the World Cup once again, after a more-than-just-unbelievable play-off win against Sicoutimont, which included a last-minute Farf goal followed by a last-minute penalty save by Erfaon Lisdiren. In the World Cup itself, Farfadillis could not make it out of the group stage, but it was deemed a success regardless. However, it was not as big a success as World Cup 63, so he was given another ultimatum. He had to get at least a third place in the AOCAF Cup to be played in the Inevitable Syndicate. And he did, even defeating the then-World Cup champions in the final. He then got the team to another World Cup, albeit for the first time avoiding a play-off (it is believed this was just because play-offs were not a possibility to begin with). They made it to the round of sixteen, before being knocked out by the very same team they had defeated to get a third place the previous AOCAF Cup. The cycle was deemed a success, and so he was given no ultimatum. Ignoring the fact that he was under no pressure, he got Farfadillis to another third place. He managed to beat Starblaydia and thrash Valanora (though the latter lacked some of their best players) in the process, too.

Gonzalo's a rather average assistant, but he's been the assistant since World Cup 62, so why would anyone fire him? He's a good psychological bonus to the team, as he's friends with many of the players, so it would not be a good idea anyway.

Description: Lisdiren is the last resource of the team to prevent a goal. Despite being the last resource, the entire team often relies on him being in a good day, in which he almost always is. The thing is, Farfadillis' attacling style, in which some defenders even attack more than they defend, pretty much means there will be many shots against. This is when Lisdiren comes in and saves the day. He can and probably will stop just about any shot within what's possible for a human, but he gives rebounds. The technique to score against him is to either shoot powerfully and have a good poacher, have a clinical finisher, or just outnumber him in a counterattack, passing the ball to the side when he approaches you one-on-one. Match reports will often rate him as a seven or more, even if Farfadillies concedes like four goals. He can, obviously, perform badly, but it's far from common.

Description: Sifé Rigutti is a pretty good goalkeeper who has so far been unlucky enough to play at the same tim as Lisdiren. However, he's seven years younger, so he's got some future. He's very secure with the ball, and often denies the opponent from rebounds. Sadly, unlike Lisdiren, his diving is nothing extraordinary and so he cannot save Farfadillis nearly as much as Lisdiren can. He's a very good leader, and would no doubt do well should he start, just, well, not as well as Lisdiren does.

Description: Ruiseñor is a pretty good goalkeeper who has already acquired a kind of taste for trophies. Having won the FFL twice with the Novans, he's certainly know throughout Farfadillis. Some argue he's very close to stripping Rigutti from the 'first in line' spot. Lisdiren's irreplaceable for the time being, though. Ruiseñor, despite his age, is a very positive presence inside the changing rooms, something Rossizzo always takes into account. He's over all a very secure goalkeeper, but lacking in diving. He's a great leader, though.

Description: Mata's been around since the U-15s, having been the star of the U-15 World Cup 1 squad. He's a defender with an incredible dribbling, and an eye for a goal when it comes to venturing into the opponent's box. He's very good defensively, excellent in many areas. He excels, however, at how he can bring his team out of the box whenever they park the bus without intending to. He can start a counterattack in a matter of seconds, and will often take needless risks by dribbling an opponent inside the box. However, up to this date, none of the teams he's defended has had to regret him doing this. Never has any other player played the very definition of Farf defender so well.

Description: Faró is Dandalleion's half-brother (on his mother side). He's, just like him, very fast, though not as much. He's not the best of defenders, and indeed his defensive capabilities are above average at best, but his very good reflexes sort of make up for it, as well as his skills with the ball, being able to dribble and pass, something many good defenders can't claim. Many goals that come from the centre are his fault, however, but Mêndêlöíndçêl and Alaminos are players who are perfectly capable of covering the holes Faró leaves. Still, don't ever think he's a bad player, as no bad player can reach the Divisjon One as a starter and play for his national team.

Description: Santos Alaminos is probably what keeps the defense from being utterly terrible. He's a wonderful player when it comes to defending. He'd probably be a centre back if it weren't for his wonderful attacking capabilities. He can cover the holes Faró leaves and help the attack too. He can and will dribble his way out of the box, instead of clearing the ball like most other defenders would. He never, however, dribbles when it's not necessary. He's very disciplined and will only do what's best. He's not tremendously fast, though he is fast. It's his incredible endurance that stands out. He can survive continuous runs up and down the pitch, somehow. He always gives his one hundred and one percent, and that's probably what places him above so many other players who'd like to play in his place. Going back to his attacking, he might be that extra player that finally breaks the opposing defense, as when it comes to attacking he's just another talented midfielder who can do as he wishes with the ball.

Description: Frêndê is somewhat legendary. He's been since World Cup 60, when the Farf national team first played an official match (he's the only player to hold this record, along with Erfaon Lisdiren and Yurpá Mêndêlöíndçêl). He sucks at defending, though. He make sup for it with his exquisite attacking capabilities. He's one of the very few Farf sidebacks that can claim his offensive output outweighs the disadvantages of his terrible defending. Age is beginning to hit him, however, and his physical states is far from the best. However, he can still dribble and pass as if he was eighteen. He can still defend like a retard, too.

Name: Vrotaoa Wii-Tzaara

Description: Wii-Tzaara is a pretty defensive sideback, and that's probably the only thing really keeping him back from being a starter. Truth is, he's a great player who can attack, though he joins the attack conservatively. However, he stays in the defense most of the time and is generally pretty solid. One may ask himself, why doesn't he start over Faró as a centre back? Well, mainly because poor Vrotaoa is a bit slow and is just not as good with the ball. He will enter the pitch when the defense looks fragile, however, and he won't do badly.

Description: Fakkotti is a tall defender who blends that with an above-averge speed and a great mind for the game. He blends attacking and defending perfectly, and can do just what Rossizzo wants him to do. He's not the guy who caves in under pressure, and knew how to be a great leader for the Di Bradini squad that would get to the final in that country of the black flag with the cross or something. However, his FFL performances have left something to be desired, even though he got to the ideal eleven. Fakkotti will be very likely to get a good amount of playing time.

Flying Jellyfish

Description: David is a very balanced defender, with his stamina and anticipation being particularly outstanding. The only problem he faces is, well, having to be Alaminos' shadow. Santos is maybe a bit too much for a player who is not as experienced, and really not as good. However, Alejandro is no doubt very, very good regardless, and can substitute Alaminos without many problems. He's not so skilled, however. He's got some fierce competition on the other flank, too, coming from no other than Cleto Mata. And he's got Leo Fakkotti competing with him in the pecking order. David won't be getting much playing time, but he's not bad. He recently moved out of Fragardallian because of their relegation. He's certainly not at fault, however, he did what he could. Flying Jellyfish signed him, but now that he's in contention for a spot for the World Cup twenty-three, provided Farfadillis qualifies, he may be getting offers from even better teams.

Midfielders

Name: Yurpá Mêndêlöíndçêl
Age: 25

Oyardo FC

Description: Say hello to the captain, and one of the two best players of the team. If there's anyone who knows what it is to play for Farfadillis, it's either Lisdiren or him, with both having played each and every game of the national team. If tehre's anyone who knows about tough times, it's without a doubt Yurpá. He had to work his way out of Ruland, a complete hell-hole, by leaving his family behind to get to where he is now. He has had to make many tough decisions throughout his life. When it comes to football, however, all decisions seem very easy to him. He can strip any player from the ball as soon as he/she/it is unfortunate enough to give this phrenetic midfielder half a centimetre. Yes, phrenetic. He is a machine. His endurance is completely unmatched, and can often be seen conneting sprints in a way that seems inhuman. When he puts his eyes on the ball, it's all he cares about. This probably should be a flaw of his, but it's not. He will slide, jump, do just about anything to get the ball, but he never gets sent out. Indeed, he never commits unnecessary fouls. He's as clean a player as you may find, at least from the referee's perspective. He's not as good with the ball as some other players of the team, but he's by no means bad. He can provide teammates with assists, something he often does for his Astograthian club Oyardo, and dribble his way into the box. However, there's one thing at which he excels, which is an added bonus that makes him the incredibly threatening player he is: he's absolutely fantastic from long range. His shots are not necessarily precise, though they tend to be. It's their sheer speed that makes it impossible for the goalkeeper. Now, obviously, he'll ve missing some attempts, and it may be difficult for him to find the space to shoot, but if he gets, say, three long-range shots in one match, at least one will probably be a goal. He just seems to wreak his anger when he lets those missiles come off his right foot. He can shoot with his left foot, too, but he's not that good with it. Despite being the captain, he's a very silent player inside the pitch, and will probably be the last person to be sent out due to being disrespectful to the referee. There's one last true thing about him: if to score a goal he has to suffer a terrible injury, he won't back down. This might be one of his biggest flaws, however. He never seems to get injured, though. At least not with the national team.

Urbizania Wanderers

Description: Risko Kâí is an incredibly dangerous hybrid between left midfielder and left winger. If he gets the ball, he will probably go down the flank and generate an opportunity. He can dribble one, two, three and whatever number of players is needed. He's got each and every trick possible, and can pull off any and all of them. He's a player who does not care for aggressiveness against him, and will tend to provoke the opponent. He can be extremely infuriating to the player(s) who have to take care of him. He can grab just about any defender's honour and tear it apart. He can cut in and shoot from afar, but he's not great at it. He's pretty good at passing, too, but it's not his biggest strength. As said, his biggest strength is his dribbling. His feinting, though a very well-known trick, is impossible to predict. For all you know, he could be about to shoot or dribble you. Every time he does something, it's a coin flip: he either gets it right, or wrong. If he gets it wrong, his reflexes tend to help him fix his mistake anyway. However, as heavily attacking as he may sound, he's still good defensively. He gives his all for the team, and knows how to strip players from the ball, though he's admittedly average at it. He may be very cheeky inside the pitch, but he's not the kind of player to get a red card for idiotic things, and he's not really temperamental. He's never the kind of player to dive or similar; often when he gets fouled inside the box, he continues with the ball attempting to score or assist, which backfires sometimes and just secures the goals other times. This is not something good for the team, but it does show some fair play from him. He's got some impressive future. His starting appearences while just twenty with Urbizania Wanderers should show that, so should his award as second best young player of the Astograthian league, just after the Polarian future superstar Moses Luc Bjerregaard.

Description: Mâás Fôx is a nightmare to any defense. He's not great defensively, but he will cause a headache to most defenders. He's got an impressive long-range precision and an impressive playmaking ability. He can run down the flank impressively, but he prefers to cut in. Being ambidextrous lets him do whatever he wants, and makes him a lot more dangerous. When he cuts in, defenders will have to guess whether he'll attempt a sniper assist to either Dandalleion, Tenian, Terán or Tuzzio or just shoot from afar, complicating the goalkeeper a lot. He's a wonderful free kick taker. If Farfadillis gets a free kick, he'll be the one taking it, and it's gonna be pretty dangerous for the opposing team. If you want to know something that may make you fear him despite his age, here it goes: he equalled Farfadillis' transfer record (10 million) at the age of sixteen, when he was signed by Directus. By the way, he's, just as most of the team, very fast. Oh, and he's very precise with crosses. And he cares not for pressure. He's not in a great physical state, however, and he probably won't be able to endure an entire match. He can be stripped from the ball by virtue of physical strength, but it's not recommended as he may play his way around it and provoke a foul.

Description: Where to start? Terán is an incredibly classy player with his heart belonging to the shirt he's defending and only to the shirt he's defending. However, there's a big twist: he sees football as a game and just a game. Always a cheerful, cheeky player, he can and will do anything to opposing defenders. He's spectacular when it comes to chipping the ball from outside the box, and has got a very good tactic for scoring from outside the box: if the goalkeeper is a few steps from the goal, chip the ball. If he's not, shoot powerfully to one of the posts. It has worked wonders for him at Farfadillis, getting the best player of the season award over many other very good players, such as Abuda, Einarsson, Pagagartundua, Kemp and even the Jansen twins. His endurance is stunning, his speed above-average, his dribbling very good and his playmaking... out of this world. He's one of Rossizzo's best guesses, as nobody would've called him up when Rossizzo did. He ended up not only winning his starting position in the national team, but also being a vital part of the squad that got to the round of sixteen, even scoring against the world champions, Eura. Though, well, that game was pretty much Risko Kâí versus Craig Sinclair. He's very good defensively, and is a player of box-to-box characteristics. He plays a slightly more attacking role than centre midfielder, but he still helps the defense a lot. Along with Tuzzio they form the centre attacking midfielder duo, Farfadillis' way of attacking through the centre. Tuzzio and Terán can easily assist Dandalleion, who is one of the easiest people to assist, so watch out for that. It certainly doesn't help the opposing defense that both of them are very precise long-range shooters, something almost characteristic of most Farf attackers, apparently.

Description: Ichi Tuzzio is a very classy player; he often chooses to chip the ball when going one-on-one, and always gets it right. However, it's not how classy he is that makes him stand out, being one of the best players Farfadillis has to offer, certainly second-in-line to Dandalleion and Mêndêlöíndçêl, it is his incredibly convenient skillset for a centre attacking midfielder. First of all, he's a very good playmaker, and has almost telepathic communication with Dandalleion, with them being very good friends outside the pich, too. However, his playmaking ability is somewhat of a bonus, as what stands out is hi incredible agility and reflexes when dribbling, coupled with his impressive technique. Therefore, he's a great dribbler, and can make his way into the box and score quite easily. It is not his dribbling, as good as it may be, that makes him stand above most others, though. It is his clinical shots that do. No matter where he is, he can get a shot on target if given half a centimetre. When inside the box and given space, the likelihood of him not scoring is very slim. He often aims for the lower corners, and almost always gets it right. His long-range shots are very common, too, and he often threatens opponents with them. Having to take care of Mêndêlöíndçêl's long-range efforts is not that difficult. Taking care of Alex Terán at the same time is not impossible. Taking care of Dandalleion too makes it difficult. Adding Mâás Fôx to the mix makes it even more difficult. However, adding Tuzzio into the mix makes it require an impressive tactician and very skilled midfielders, willing to give their all for the team. Now, obviously, he won't get all long-range efforts right, but they all tend to be powerful and precise. Very, very precise. He's pretty fast, but there is two downsides to him, the two closely related. His endurance is below-average and, probably as a consequence, he does not help out defensively. Dandalleion and Tenian are more likely to help the defense than Tuzzio. Nonetheless, his sheer ability more than makes up for it.

Description: Elevado's not the typical Farf player. He's terrible offensively, and at his best can play decently in that regard. However, he can provide a great defensive backbone to the team whenever it's needed. He's great in every aspect defensively, though he's not out of this world or even close to that. He can get a decent completed pass percentage, dribble sometimes, and recover the ball to pass it to Tuzzio, Terán, Kâí or Fôx and let them do the rest. Not thoroughly impressive, but the Farf midfield, as much as it may be Farfadillis' strongest point, is severly lacking in substitutes anyway.

Prostran I Forzuda

Description: Santic is a very rare type of player: one that is extremely loyal to his team, regardless of circumstances. He plays for Prostran I Forzuda, a team that was just recently promoted - thanks to Santic and only Santic - to the FFL2, Farfadillis' second division. He's notable for his very good tackling and prediction of the ball's path, which gives him a natural taste for recovering the ball. However, his long-range efforts, while not particularly impressive, are good too, and his dribbling and passing are not to be overlooked. He is a very balanced midfielder, and is often considered the exception to a well-known rule: Karuvans are bad at football. For the sake of context, Karuvis is a Farf state.

Description: Mêrí is a strange case. He can play very good games just as he can play terrible games, though his capability has never been questioned. He was dropped from his starting position last AOCAF Cup following a poor performance last cycle. However, he has now had an apparently great season in Polarian football, despite his team ending in a bad position. It may have been of good help that his manager was Fendergéson Numbá, who is Rossizzo's good friend, too. Mêrí might be getting another chance soon. If he gets to play, watch our for his dribbling, speed and crossing. Oh, and his shooting. He may inadvertently cut in and bend the ball to the far post.

Description: Østergård is a rather rare kind of striker: a playmaker striker. Not many strikers who specialize in playmaking exist nowadays, but Østergård is a fine example. He's not a starter, most likely, due to having some of the fiercest competition for his positions. If he were as good, but played as, say, centreback, he's easily replace Faró. He's a player with a lot of talent who's played for Avenida Victoria all his life, where he has excelled. His passing is just incredible, as his assists per match record says. However, he's not a striker who gets many goals, though he has scored a few important goals for the national team. He can play as a centre attacking midfielder, too, but his long-range shooting is not perfect, even if precise. He will utterly decimate you from close-rang if given enough space, though.

Libertarian Ferdulllaele

Description: Alessandri is quite weird case. As said, the Farf midfield is rather lacking in substitute midfielders. This is due to the midfield itself being crowded, therefore leaving less substitutes, and other players either playing for currently non-proffesional teams (the Mî twins) or having impressive temperamental problems (Ikkon Karrka). Because of this, Demetrio Alessandri has been called up by Rossizzo. Demetrio has been saving Libertarian Ferdullaele from relegation for quite a long time now, and it's generally regarded as a step in the right direction by those Farves that have seen him play. As much as he may not be the most impressive player ever, he's pretty versatile, as he can play in any position in the midfield bar defensive midfielder, and has got a good dribbling combined with a decent playmaking ability and pretty good long shooting. He's by no means even close to a starter position, and indeed he has yet to show what he's worth playing for a team other than the relegation-threatened Liberdullaelans, but Rossizzo trusts him. Not really a late-bloomer, though, he's been very good for some seasons already.

Gwinevra Barbarians

Description: Tenian is a pretty versatile player. Originally a right midfielder, he signed for Apoxian club of the century Gwinevra Barbarians early in his career and became a legend there. He was probably one of the reasons, if not the reason why Gwinevra Barbarians became Apoxian club of the century. However, he did not become a legend playing as a right midfielder. Actually, they found out he could work better as a striker. It's difficult to tell why, however. He's not fast. He's not that tall. He's strong, yes, but that's not what makes a striker good. His finishing is pretty good, sure. He can score from crosses, too, thanks to the surprise factor involved, but that does not make him a great striker. He's not the greatest dribbler ever. He's a pretty good playmaker, but as a striker that's not so useful. The reason for him being a starter for Farfadillis and a legend for all Apoxians is, well, probably his sheer luck. It's either luck or an incredibly understanding of physics. He's that one guy that gets the lucky rebounds and gets the goal by kicking the ball a metre from the goal. Sounds easy, but, far from it, Tenian's job is pretty difficult. He basically relies on his prediction of the ball's path and his accurracy, because many chances are not as easy as they seem. He's the much-needed striker that, instead of pulling wonderful goals out of a hat, makes sure to 'clean up' by scoring from rebounds. He can obviously score other kinds of goals, though. He's a striker, after all.

Jungle Strike

Description: Say hello to Friekder Dandalleion, the most famous Farf player around. He started his career playing for the swamp football national team and shining at it. Ferdullaele gave him a chance for trials as a result of his great performances. He was great. He eventually started playing for Ferdullaele, and then the national team. The rest, as they say, is history. Dandalleion is the very definition of a versatile player, being able to play as either a right midfielder, a left midfielder, a centre attacking midfielder or any position up front. Being so versatile not only gives him more chances of playing (which he does not need), but it also gives him an ample skillset to pull off just about anything regardless of position. He knows each and every position down to every detail, and knows how to mix them, giving a lethal result. Rossizzo seems to have found the perfect combination for this, making him play as a striker on the left. This allows him to cut in and shoot to the lower corners, something he knows because of playing as a centre attacking midfielder for Jungle Strike. This also allows him venture down the flank thanks to his times as a left midfielder, and it also allows him to act as any other striker thanks to his times as a striker. However, there's one thing that makes Dandalleion outstanding. When you mix his hybrid position with astonishing speed (he even got two gold medals last olympics, and qualified to the two hundred metres final) and an exquisite control of the sphere, you get a striker that's very easy to assist. Sure, he can create chances himself, but having Tuzzio and Terán assisting you makes everything easier. His dribbling and his finishing, which are unmatched when it comes to Farves, let him finish everything he starts. He's as complete as forwards come. The trick he likes to pull off the most is, as said, to cut in and shoot to the lower corners. The shots tend to be very fast and precise, which makes it all that harder for the goalkeeper. He's a very acrobatic player too, and he's not bad when heading, though he's the one who takes the corners. His crossing is not exceptional, but he does not tend to cross anyway. If he goes down the flank, he's very likely to attempt to enter the box and create a much more dangerous chance than just crossing the ball. He's known for appearing when most needed. He recently shone for his club at the V-League, being the best player of the entire league, and misisng out on top goalscorer by one goal, despite having played six games less than the winner. A complete beast.

Mowling Arcanines

Description: Fuego is not en exceptional player, but he's fortunate enough to combine all that a striker needs. He's extremely fast, is good at passing, is a clinical finisher and has got the skills needed to dribble. His endurance is not bad, but he's not the kind of player to give his all for his team, so he does not put that to use a lot of time. He's not the best player putting up with pressure, but he can score when you least expect it. He's a weaker version of Dandalleion, and more of a one-trick pony. Nonetheless, he's a pretty good player. Many say his young brother (José Torino Fuego) will get far, though. Time will tell.

Description: Dragãozý is a very complete striker. He's slightly shorter than other players. However, he can score headers if left unattended. He single-handedly saved Sent 01 from relegation las season, and is certainly Mâ Âlâmëómë's biggest prospect since Risko Kâí. Çis is known for spreading inspiration to the entire team. At the age of twenty-two, he's a great leader. He's also very fast and completely tireless. He can dribble really well, too-

Description: Roga is a mystery. He does not excel at anything, but he's above average in everything a striker needs. He's also an avid writer with already a few books under his belt, of which one has been a best-seller (in Farfadillis). All of them were pretty grotesque in terms of plot, mind. He's not the striker who gets the most minutes, but he's had his chances and he seems to have done more than just well. He seems to play impressively for Iturributa United, though. He's already got a top goalscorer award under his belt. Now, the competition for being Dandalleion's partner is very hard, but who says he can't win it if he shows what he's shown for United?

Description: Hân Fôx has been a regular top striker for Mâ Âlâmëómë for some time. Therefore, Rossizzo has been taking him into consideration for some time. He's a striker with an eye for the goal. He's a great poacher and a clinical finisher. His positioning is great, so assisting him, despite his average speed, is not a difficult task. However, he does often go for his and only his goal, which is a big downside to a national team that just wants to score and score more, regardless of who scores. He's not a relative of Mâás Fôx, just incase anyone was wondering.

Avenida Leal

Description: The reason why Cornelio has been called up is mainly that, along with the future Astograthian superstar Ostadar Arambilet and the already Apoxian starter Kaj Aurora, he took Avenida Leal to the third place of the FFL without any warnings. Now, Avenida Leal was expected to finish somewhere mid-table, as they were a great team for one that had recently been promoted. But... third place? That's quite a lot. He's a striker with a stunning speed and a good finishing, but his dribbling is not very good. In all reality, he shouldn't be getting much, if any, playing time, but who knows? He might get some.

Tactics

Farfadillis is known for its extremely attacking style, which consists of constantly looking for the goal and counterattacking whenever the chance arises, if the team even got to defending in the first place.

The goalkeeper is usually very talented, as growing up in Farfadillis as a goalkeeper is a great way of learning to stop shots, which are excessive. It's also one of the most important positions, as this is generally a great leader and an extra security to prevent conceding goals.

The backline is generally not that defending, with a centre back which is the only player almost 100% concentrated on defending. The side backs tend to join the attack. However, this depends on the player. It usually ranges from many times to countless times.

The midfield is very crowded, as a backline of three players allows for it. There's generally a defensive midfielder, which takes care of recovering the ball and distributing it appropriately. The defensive midfielder is generally tireless and shoots very well from long distances. There's then side midfielders, which join the attack and defend a lot. They're the soul of the team in a way, as they're vital for both defending and attacking. They tend to score a lot, as well, as they're pretty good at either shooting, dribbling, passing or two/all of them. There's then two centre attacking midfielders, a notable characteristic of the Farf national team. The two attacking midfielders are terrible defensively, and rarely ever carry out defensive tasks. However, they're talented at wreaking havoc by different means. These two are generally the most important threats of the attack, and the cntre of the Farf attack, which is very flexible as the team can attack through the flanks with the midfielders or the centre with this deadly duo. The centre attacking midfielders tend to be the most talented players, but some strikers are equally are good or better.

Finally, there's the strikers, the icing of the cake. Farf strikers tend to be very agile and deadly when finishing. They're also very good at dribbling and passing, plus they always seem to be at the right time in the right place. There's a great variety of Farf strikers, but there's just two spots available for them. Strikers are usually just another piece of the engine, but they tend to carry out more tasks than other players, such as having to score while having to receive passes from the attacking duo, or heading crosses from the side midfielders. Being a striker for Farfadillis is suitable only for the fittest players.

Due to Farfadillis' pervasive attacking style, very few teams can say they've managed a clean sheet against them after they first qualified for the World Cup, with East Shippensburg, New Gordonopia, Ko-oren, Wight and Kinitaria being the only ones capable of achieving that up to now, while Thatius can claim they survived 90 minutes, before conceding in extra time during AOCAF Cup 39's quarterfinals. It's not uncommon for Farfadillis to score more than three goals in a game, too. However, this comes with a huge drawback, which is conceding many goals. It's also not uncommon for Farfadillis to concede around two goals in a match. Farfadillis' style of play has been generally regarded, with just one word, as "exciting".

Starting XI

The starting eleven shows Erfaon Lisdiren defending the Farf goal, as expected. The centre back shall be Rancisc Faró, probably the weakest player of the team. The left back shall be Cleto Mata, who will be joining the attack a lot and trying to help cover the holes left by Faró. The right back shall be Alaminos, doing pretty much the same thing. The defensive midfielder shall be Yurpá Mêndêlöíndçêl, leading the defense and attempting to minimize the number of goals conceded. He shall also be the one recovering the ball and making it flow to either the flanks or the centre attacking midfield duo. On the left, Risko Kâí shall be the one responsible for one of the toughest positions for a Farf. On the right, the revelation Mâás Fôx will be doing a similar thing. The centre attacking midfield duo will be composed of Ichi Tuzzio and Alex Terán, which conform what is argued to be the best centre attacking midfield duo in Farf history. This does not mean Farf history has been long, at all. The two strikers shall be Friekder Dandalleion, threatening from pretty much anywhere, and Tenian, who shall be the 'cleaner'.

Yes, it still is an all-female team. As I’ve explained before, this is because the main ball-game that's traditionally been played in Bears Armed is actually a form of Rugby, but [for several reasons] the professional league for that sport is all-male and so some of the female players decided that switching to Soccer — and trying to establish a professional league for that sport for themselves instead — might be a viable alternative: They were right, because that professional league was founded shortly after WC44 and so has now been in operation for over an eightSquared of years.

All of the players are actual Ursines (i.e. anthropomorpic, bipedal Bears)], except for any whom I actually specify as being members of other ‘peoples’ instead. The Harr'aynau people are physically human (more-or-less, anyway, although inclined towards heavy builds & hairiness), but are spiritually & culturally Ursine instead.

According to Bears Armed’s timeline, the qualifiers for WC67 take place in 2097-’2098AD, and the Cup proper in 2099AD: All figures given here for people’s ages and lengths of experience are the values applying in the first of those three years.
Yes, these are the same dates and ages as for WC66: An attempt at halting the ‘cosmic crisis’ that was happening back then accidentally put the country into a time-loop!

(female ursine, from the Clouded Sun [Free Sept]; experience = 25 years as a player (for mostly for River City, as a versatile Forward), the latter 4 of them doubling as a coach for that club’s ‘youth’ programme, and appointed to this job after WC65; age = 41, ambidextrous, fur = cream; is a incredibly accurate shot, partly because she has very good sight even by human standards, is very accurate agile too. (She actually made her international debut as a member of the Bears’ team for DBC22, although the roster for that squad has never been made widely known, but the qualifiers for WC61 were her first time playing for her country again since then: She’s been verry thoroughly vetted, and seems to have been innocent of any involvement in whatever conspiracy it was that over-rode own BAAS’s plans for that earlier tournament.)

Don’t kill anybody, or inflict injuries that would be serious enough to end careers, without checking with me & getting my approval (which is unlikely to be granted…) first.
Godmod Other Events: Y, I suppose, at least as long as you do so in an AMUSING way... but please remember that Ursines are fully sapient beings, as much as Humans are, not instinct-driven animals. Oh, and of course female Ursines are not sexually interested in Humans (of either sex), and it's very unlikely that female Harr'ayanau would be either. Please don't have them run amok or outright revert to animality, without checking by TG first, don't make assumptions about their views on politics or religion, and don't do anything that would make more than one of them incapable of playing in their next game...

Kit: This incarnation of the team will normally wear the usual set of designs (from ‘ediraf’) that the Belles have favoured in the past, with the ‘Association’ badges correctly staying ‘BAAS’ rather than [the now obsolete] ‘BAMAS’. See "here" for details. However, unlike the incarnations of this team that you’ve actually seen playing before, they have a set of five stars—one for each World Cup triumph (in their own timeline, and all after WC62…) that the Belles had “already” achieved before the match from which they were brought here.
Bears Armed has traditionally used base-8 arithmetic, for several reasons, and this has affected the set of numbers used for this team’s players: The numbers “10”, “22”, and “26” have been left unassigned out of respect for wearers who went to their deaths as heroines during various conflicts.

Home grounds

1/. Wimbley Stadium:[/b] Located a few miles to the north-north-west of Council Groves (our capital city), to which it is connected by rail as well as by road, this stadium was built from scratch — on part of a former Confederal Army base’s site — shortly before the qualifiers for WC52 began as a replacement for the Bear-Belles original “home” at ‘Plumtrees Park’ which has now been demolished. Its current capacity is approximately 60'000 for Ursines: Fitting about 40’000 humans into the visiting fans' half should be possible, and so that's as many as we'll let into the country. Accommodation for visiting teams & their staffs will be provided in a new hotel, less than a mile away, which has staff who are accustomed to dealing with Humans as well as with Ursines. The various other hotels in that complex and those at Council Groves can now provide about 12’000 rooms at a time, at varying prices, although of course some of those may already have been booked by people who have nothing to do with the Cup. Accommodation (at a fairly basic level) for up to 15’000 supporters will be available, at reasonable prices, in students' residences for the National University’s campus in that city: if any more than all of those facilities put together can house want to attend a match then they’ll have to borrow space in the area’s remaining Army camp instead...
There are still no direct inter-regional flights into Council Groves, so that visitors will have to travel by way of one of our neighbours and then continue onwards by one of the limited number of "local" air-flights or by rail. (People planning to arrive by rail will still have to travel via the nation of Mikitivity, but extra services will be organised on that route...)
This site will be used for most, but not all, of the Belles' matches. (list to be added)

2./ ‘NorthLands National Stadium’: Located at NorthPort, the most cosmopolitan city in The Ursine Northlands, this facility was originally built for use by the 'Northbears' WC49’s qualifiers. Unfortunately the place has since seen rather less use than was originally hoped, but it is still in good condition and will hold about 43’000 Ursines or over 60’000 humans (or, of course, proportionate numbers of a mixture of those two species) because it was deliberately built to be rather larger than 'Plumtrees Park' which was then the Mainland's 'national' stadium…
This site will be used for some of the Belles’ home games (list to be added), and also for some of their friendlies & matches in other Cups during this period as specified separately.
Foreigners coming to this stadium may either travel to the ‘Mainland’ and then continue hence via a set of ancient [& probably magical] ‘Gates’ that link the country’s two sections — completing their journey by either rail or riverboat after that — or take ship directly to NorthPort.

NOTES

Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate than humans on average, but this team's members were carefully selected so the gap between them & their opponents in this respect should be narrower than some people might expect. They do tend to have [slightly] poorer eyesight than humans, on the whole (although the members of both Clan Gunnar and the Sun Clan are generally an exception to this rule, and the eyesight of the latter group is actually often at [slightly] better-than-human levels instead), so long-distance passes & shots at goal will tend to be rarer behaviour for them than they are for human teams... but their typical size & strength mean that when they're running with the ball it will probably take a very brave human — as well as a very skilled one — to tackle them successfully (or, at least, one who has reasonable experience of playing against Ursines…), which should balance that factor pretty well. They don’t jump very well, but then they’re generally rather taller than most Human players to start with so they shouldn’t need to jump as often in order to intercept [relatively] high shots...
Ursines are physically robust, of course, which means that they're much less likely than humans are to suffer injuries in falls or collisions. The females of this species are more even-tempered than the males, and the team's members will try to stay on their best behaviour not only in order to do well in this contest but also to impress upon the watching humans that Ursines aren't just "dumb beasts". They will not 'dive', or feign injury in other ways, because suggesting that they could be harmed so easily goes strongly against the grain. ‘Northlanders’ are maybe not quite as "civilised" as the 'Mainlanders'… or, at any rate, that’s the traditional stereotype..
Cold weather should pose no problem to them, even if there's snow or ice on the pitch, but tropical heat might prove awkward...

Unless our hosts at the match in question object, this team's members (including the designated substitutes for the match in question) will perform a [fairly short] ritual that's called the 'harrdiharr' on the pitch just before play begins... This is a traditional war-dance, meant to over-awe opponents, that has come to be a customary prelude for team games as well (similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' 'haka'...). : )
As has now been seen during various tournaments, some of our fans like to take drums — and possibly also 'Urrs-horns' [which are similar to Alpenhorns, cow-horns, or other "musical instruments", too — along to the matches…

The team is accompanied by a number of sapient Ravens, who are there both to gather information about the rival sides and to provide air cover in case of hostile waterfowl.

About Legalese
Legalese is a gargantuan, cultured nation in the hallowed Northeast
of Atlantian Oceania. Spanning two landmasses: the mainland, on
the eastern side of the Calanian continent, fitting inhabitants between
Lake Bekk on the west, the Nemyan Strait and Calanian Sound on the
east, Starblaydia to the north, and New West Guiana to the south; and
the more recently inhabited Karin Islands, a temperate-zoned landmass
(and smaller included barrier island) opposite the strait from the mother
country. For nearly three centuries since the first true organization of the
Legalites, the People of Legalese have spent the majority of their history
in the shadow of their neighbors, including two periods of occupation by
Starblaydia, the latter during the troubled times of Operation Galactica.
Having rebuilt and colonized in the near-century since, they no longer just
seek their own survival, but a place in the international community.

The Team:
Players are listed by their shirt number, followed by name, age,
and club affiliation.

Keepers:
1 - Tarquin Waldrop, 29, International of Tyrellia. With a tenure
rivalling the length of his predecessor and manager’s, Tarquin
Waldrop has been a fixture in the #1 kit, long considered a key
to success, even with a team that tends to play an aggressive
style. And yet, some would say that his league play is a cause
for concern, conceding a shade over two goals per match for
Myre Town as they stumbled to relegation in the National League’s
inaugural season. An offseason transfer to International kept him
up in the top tier, but he’ll have to perform much better for both club
and country to retain the starting job.

22 - Evan Swales, 27, Tyrellia Titans. Sometimes, it takes
playing for a champion to get you noticed. Swales, a Tyrellian
by birth, has played for his home club for five seasons now,
the last three as the primary netminder. After the Titans’
championship season in which had the lowest number of goals
per match - one per game over the course of twenty-five of the
Titans’ twenty-six in league play - he was called up to the National
Team for this qualifying campaign.

23 - Morrissey Beaudine, 20, Oker United. Beaudine, a native
of Francopolis, was lured out west by promises of a consistent
spot in the eighteen for the M-League side, not seeing the same
prospects with his prospective league side, Argyle Warriors.
His work with the Okerson side has turned out surprisingly well
for him, getting the nod for all twenty-six league matches, as well
as being named the starter for four of the five matches the
National Team played in AOCAF 42. It may take a poor run of form
from both Waldrop and Swales to help push him up, but you know
he’ll be waiting eagerly.

Defense:
2 - Benson Black, 27, Knights of Tiberia. A poor run of form
doomed the Knights in National League play, but nobody
seems to attribute it to Ben Black, whose play on the outer
defense was aggressive at times - he suffered one direct red,
a red off of a double-yellow, and two other yellow cards in
league play - but is widely credited with keeping the Tiberian
side from falling back to the M-League.

3- Liam Todd, 36, Draig Goch FC. To think that he was the
upstart rookie so many years ago! Liam Todd has, in over
a decade of national team play and over five cycles of
experience, become a mainstay, with twelve international
goals to his name, and countless others prevented. At his
age, his best playing days are looking behind him, and there
are rumors that he will be used only as a substitute, despite
having a single-digit number. That said, his experience has
gained him an honor last bestowed on the man now sitting
in the manager’s seat: Player-Coach.

4 - Kenny Stroud, 28, International of Tyrellia. A mainlander
by birth, Stroud moved to the islands in his early teens with
his mother. Having played a little recreationally, he was
convinced by a friend to try out for the youth club based in
the highlands, International. He’s been a key part of the club
since, in addition to spending the previous few cycles on the
National Team.

5 - Jeff Donaldson, 22, Turoki Tide. (Vilitian Stellar Division)
Donaldson, formerly of Myre Town, picked a good season
to make the move abroad, joining the Vilitian League side
Turoki Tide. In 36 games for the Tide, he provided a solid
presence on the back line for the Tide, who would earn a
UICA place, while his old club went down to the M-League.
It is hoped that his international experience will help him
take a more permanent spot on the NT side, having made
three appearances and two starts in the previous cycle.

18 - Gnaeus Shoobridge, 19, Comunas Cougars

19 - Gruffudd Masters, 19, Comunas Cougars.
Collectively, the central back duo of Shoobridge
and Masters, aka. “Gruff and Ready”, have had
mounds of praise heaped upon them for their league
work - the Cougars were the team with the fewest
goals allowed all season - and their continuing work in
Audioslavia for AOCAF 42. Regular play is not likely to
start, but the experience will be helpful for future cycles,
one would suspect.

20 - Irwin Boyd, 25, LC Capitals

21 - Eudav Kaszinski, 22, Bekknia FC - also an alum
from the AOCAF 42 squad, Kaszinski managed as
the left wing-back for the Sagdineo side, turning in a
finish that, while mid-table, was a bit higher than
expected.

Midfield:
6 - Cormac Shansky, 24, International of Tyrellia.

7 - Cyrus Damhan, 27, International of Tyrellia.
Born in Erodoeth, discovered by International. Team
Captain by age 22, and national teamer at around the
same time. There’s a reason the quiet, hard-working
son of a teamster and a server is on the back of the
model kits. At twenty-seven, he’s in his prime, but
as always, is hungry for more.

8 - Slade Brahm, 27, Draig Goch FC. Slade’s career
has developed alongside Cyrus’s, only on the opposite
side of the strait. Known for solid, consistent, but not
flashy play, he has been the reliable outside midfielder,
driving the Red Dragons to snag the Federation Open
Cup, finish third in the National League, and ride the

For Xavier, the fourth time was the charm domestically - his
Fourth club in as many years, Milona-Lpaka, hoisted the
Tropical Trophy, finished second in league play, and earned
the Turori spot in the 51st Champions Cup qualifying process.
For his part, Boyle is fully out of the shadow of his predecessors,
and is the side’s most experienced striker. His proficiency up
top will be the difference on an attack-minded side.

9 - Quintus Oxboro - 20, Tyrellia Titans. Quintus, a native of the
Bekknian city of Morven, moved to Tyrellia with his family in his early
teens, and immediately demonstrated some talent on the pitch,
leading to the Titans offering him a place in their youth program,
and as the leagues went professional, a place on their senior side.
A breakthrough performance in the recent league season, including
a number of key goals down the stretch, helped him earn a spot on
the AOCAF roster, which in turn led to his nomination as Boyle’s new
primary striking partner.

the coaching ladder quickly, going from retirement as a player to

The snagging of the nation’s first international trophy - and first CoH
win in three finals appearances - locked him into the position, which
he has now held for five cycles, and three qualifications - the latter
number the most of any Legalese NT manager. That said, the bar
is high - a lack of success in the World Cup group stage has made
the pundits antsy.

He nearly did it again. For the second time in Terns history we reached the final of the World Cup, only to see us crumble and lose for the first time that cycle when confronted by the pressures of the occasion. Former FC Axel Heiburg boss Morten Rasmussen took over at the helm of the Terns three cycles ago now, and he has been a revelation, turning the side into one of the hardest teams in the Multiverse to beat. Two of his eight defeats in charge of the Terns, a full quarter of them, have been in the World Cup final. Twice they've come close, and twice they've picked themselves back up again. The first time they did it, he picked a team full of youthful promise for the Copa Rushmori and they went on to win the it against fierce rivals Sargossa in the final, becoming the first team to have ever won it on three occasions, and breaking records in the process. The second time, he appeared to pick a side in readiness for the ext World Cup campaign, tried some things out, and lost in the quarter finals. With Sudesval, Petersen, Oyen-Spekke, and the talismanic Alexsandr van Sorensen all now retired from international duty following the defeat in Fligsive, his job is perceived to be tougher this time around. Big gaps needed filling, and he's selected a strong side, almost entirely from the twenty-three he took to Charruterra for the Copa. The Terns are getting an unwelcome reputation for being chokers - something he will be keen to try and get rid of at this tournament. The best way to do this would of course be by winning the final, one that would be the Terns' third in succession. First he has to get there however, and having never lost a single match in qualifying during his tenure, the first task will be to ensure that nobody thinks the Terns are there for the taking. They still mean business, and they're not about to let something so trivial as a couple of defeats get in the way of their aims. With a mental clean slate, Rasmussen's boys are here to make a statement.

Assistant Manager: Steffan Pekarik, 48
Steffan Pekarik is a player who knows what it takes to succeed. Holding 141 caps for the Terns and appearing for East Franz Athletic and KagPaz club Urajbina, he later joined Axel Heiburg and was their first ever title lifting captain in his last ever season of professional playing, all under Morten Rasmussen's guidance. He then went straight into the coaching set-up at the Argonauts and was the assistant manager by the time Jorgen Hauge lifted the title three seasons later. Upon Rasmussen's job offer at the Terns, Pekarik was swiftly whisked across as well, and it is thought that the inspirational and dynamic former left-back with the talent for man-management is being trained and prepared for a crack at a big management job himself in the future. Has taken two World Cup final defeats rather worse than most have done, giving a meaner streak in team talks and even more determination to win. So if you find yourselves being kicked about by the Terns rather more than you have been in the past, blame Pekarik.

#1 - GK - Iulian Kirilaunen - Age 26 -

Kirilaunen was handed the number one jersey at Surtsey a while ago now, repaying the confidence shown in him almost immediately by producing some outstanding performances to help the Gulls exceed all expectations. Twenty-six years old is young for a goalkeeper who represents his national team as the number one with as much calmness and authority as he does, but you tend to forget his age during the match as your eyes are instead drawn to his constantly good positioning and organisation of his back four. Despite his closest rival for the number one jersey winning the Champions' Cup, Iulian still holds onto it. There's a good reason for this, and his speed off his line when acting as a sweeper-keeper will no doubt save the day on the rare occasions the speedy and mobile defence in front of him gets caught flat-footed.

#2 - DR - Moses Luc Bjerregaard - Age 19 -

At just seventeen years of age, Bjerregaard was the youngest player to get a call-up to the Terns squad since Alexsandr van Sorensen, and it's not hard to see why. Still only on the verge of his twentieth birthday, he is lightning fast, fearless, with a wicked control of a dead ball, and has a willingness to run at players that means Bjerregaard has all the credentials required to be a fine right winger. However, when you add a tough tackle, the ability to read the game, and a keen positional sense into the equation, it's easy to see why Bjerregaard can make such a devastating wing-back. Hence, he is perfect for Rasmussen's formation. His strength in the air can leave something to be desired, but he's still young, and coming off the back of some stunning performances at the Copa and the World Cup, appearing in both finals, he was snapped up by Astograthian giants Royal Rumiatzi. It's a big step up in terms of hype, and he is carrying a lot of momentum with an awful lot of buzz.

#3 - DC - Aapo Nordenberg - Age 25 -

Ituraitz FC (ASG)

Oyen-Spekke's retirement leaves a gap at centre-back, and a gap that Rasmussen could have filled with one of the many talented centre-backs that the nation is awash with at the moment, and who've been on the bench in previous Terns campaigns. Instead, he opted for the player who was brought from FC Torshavn to East Franz Athletic to replace Oyen-Spekke there as well. Nordenberg has previously found it easy to slip under the radar and avoid the hype, though at East Franz his quietly impressive performances have changed that, and with the club's failure to qualify for UICA tournaments this season he has been sold to Ituraitz FC in order to balance the books. Quiet, considered, and a scholar of the game, his game reading is excellent, meaning he is often able to make a challenge and prevent a dangerous situation before it even materialises. This lack of eye-catching last minute tackles contributes towards his relatively low-key profile, of course, though are also indicative of his ability to stop them being necessary in the first place. Tall, strong, and with a fine touch, Nordenberg is one of the ball-playing central defenders that are now becoming the vogue around the leagues. Missed out on the last World Cup squad, but impressed enough at the Copa to come in and retain the number three jersey for the upcoming campaign.

#4 - DC - Vladimir Lucic - Age 27 -

This tall defender isn’t shy when it comes to making a tackle, and his readiness to go to ground and expertly take out both ball and player in a legal way has saved many a goal in the past. He is able to risk the offside trap more than usual thanks mainly to his sheer pace in a straight line, and this will come in useful with Rasmussen's general high line. Imperious in the air, and takes his spot in the World Cup squad after missing out on previous campaigns. His eye-catching form for SK as they won the Champions' Cup and the Divisjon One title in successive years has brought him back to the attention of Rasmussen and Pekarik, and he will be asked to continue his hunt for trophies in the Terns' defence now.

#5 - DL - Kohev Küngas-Vaga - Age 29 -

Northbrook Diamonds FK

- 127 Caps, 22 Assists, 12 Goals - CAPTAIN
Impressed as the u-21s captain despite going out in the group stages of the DBC under his watch, this defender is well known and trusted by the management team and he has now taken the armband in the absence of Alexsandr van Sorensen. Kohev is a combative and battling left-back, though he is a talented centre back and defensive midfielder as well, and this enthusiasm and adaptability is something that Rasmussen will be able to make good use of. Originally moving to the first team as a result of Edvar Folke's previous hamstring tear, his athleticism was called upon to offer support and attacks from down the left side, and he later ousted the SK defender from the starting XI entirely. One of the youngest players to ever move past a hundred caps for his country, he found the final defeats particularly hard to take, and he will be working hard to try and has set about a personal mission to get to the final and lift the trophy at last.

#6 - DMC - Eikr Lillehammer - Age 26 -

Eikr Lillehammer was never even in contention for an u-21s berth in his youth, and indeed he was let go by the Northbrook Academy without much fanfare and picked up by AFK Hans Island Pioneers. Performances there lead SK Aasiaat Harbour to purchase his services a few seasons ago, and by the end of his first year there he’d very much played his way into being one of the first names on the team sheet. With a battling mentality and a new-found confidence, Eikr is flying, and Rasmussen had an easy decision when it came to deciding who was going to replace Sudesval in the starting line-up. He impressed in the last World Cup when he came on, and this was reportedly one of the factors that convinced Sudesval the time was right to move on. Hopefully one for the long-term future, definitely the one that got away for Northbrook, and potentially a future captain himself.

#7 - MC - Jean-Eric Villeneuve - Age 28 -

Northbrook Diamonds FK

Moving back to Northbrook from Cap Nordique in Cotdelapoms, Villeneuve is a creative attacking midfielder in the same mould as Lepka and Demarchelier and, like the latter, he hails from the Rochefroides community of Ellismare. Fluent in five languages, he is incredibly intelligent as far as footballers go, and his range of passing and vision on the pitch is evidence of this. Not the fastest player to have ever hit the turf, he lets the football do all the hard work for him, which can lead to his apparent lack of effort being an easy target for disgruntled fans is results aren't going so well. Fortunately, with Jean-Eric in the side, this is rarely the case, and with the help of Rasmussen and Pekarik's encouragement, even the pace and athleticism is still improving, with his performance in the World Cup final against Eura being particular impressive despite the result, and perhaps being a watershed moment in his career. Also, how is he still only twenty-eight? He's at the height of his game right now, and that's potentially terrifying for the opposition.

#8 - MC - Marten Cornelius - Age 32 -

FC Axel Heiburg

- 102 Caps, 43 Assists, 12 Goals - Vice-Captain
Cornelius came into the squad having been an inspiring presence for the u-21s in the past, and some impressive game-changing performances for Axel Heiburg underlined his quality as a key member of their Champions' Cup title-winning side. Two assists in his first five caps for the Terns gave glimpses of a fine midfielder with excellent vision, and he's only gone on to underline that promise since. Despite playing a more attacking role for Axel Heiburg, we see him here in the traditionally 'box-to-box' slot in the Pythagorean midfield plan. His inspirational midfield performance against Yuba United in the final of the Champions' Cup, pinging passes left right and centre as the Silver-Blues had no answer to his output, showed us that he's perhaps the closest thing we've got to the driving midfield creativity that was generated in the early days of Bielsen-van Jendrisen-Hansen, and as one of the experienced senior members of this side now, he will be needed to provide some leadership in the vacuum created by van Sorensen's retirement. He seems to have been around forever though, so this leadership will come easily to him.

#9 - ST - Gustaf Kolehmainen - Age 27 -

FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls

With a vicious right boot and a desire to succeed, Gustaf Kolehmainen is perhaps the player upon whom Surtsey have built their recent success. Has scored thirty-one goals for the Terns so far, and has been widely lauded for his performances in which he has utilised his broad range of talents, fitting into whatever formation he is required to do so. In particular, his performances at the World Cup saw him net a hugely impressive nine times in just seven matches under the most intense pressure possible, scoring more in the finals than he did in qualifying. He can lead the line, he can support it, he can poach, he can hit screamers, he's strong, he's fast, he's two footed, he's strong in the air; he's the perfect all round striker, and he's solely focused on scoring more for the Terns. He was the inspirational presence up front time after time as the Terns won the Copa Rushmori for a third time, and Rasmussen will be relying on the enigmatic Kolehmainen to repeat that dynamism in the search for another trophy. Had an uncharacteristically quiet time at the last Copa, so will be out to prove a point and underline his position as one of the Multiverse's most feared strikers this cycle.

#10 - AMC - Alexis Zeljeznicar - Age 25 -

Ituraitz FC (ASG)

- 34 Caps, 10 Assists, 7 Goals
After starting out for South Factory courtesy of their Polarian connections, Zeljeznicar was snapped up by the famous Ituraitz FC when South Factory were relegated. Like Bosnjakovic and of similar age, he is also a former striker that has since retreated to a more supporting role, reminiscent of another certain Tern that you may have heard of. And whom Zeljeznicar is taking a shirt number from. Sigh. Pacy, aggressive, a handful in the box for both sets of players, and wickedly talented, if he could only stop basing his lifestyle of Timo Skye's he could be very good indeed, though his critics will continue to argue that he doesn't get enough assists. Nonetheless, he is visibly calming down recently, and appears to be learning some good things from his colleagues at Ituraitz. Had a huge tournament in Charruterra, and has begun to change peoples' minds about him. Time will tell if he can come close to replacing van Sorensen long term, but they are huge shoes to fill and we will have to be patient.

#11 - ST - Felix Saarinen - Age 32 -

East Franz Athletic

- 96 Caps, 8 Assists, 51 Goals
With a series of hugely impressive performances in the Federation League, Saarinen's partnership up front with Kvitchenko saw the Polarian duo become one of the most feared partnerships in the league. He is fast and nimble, and yet is able to command a lone striker position if necessary, and Kvitchenko's international retirement allowed his team-mate a continued shot in the starting line-up just as he is hitting his peak condition. A tall and dangerous figure in the box, his resilient pace late on will torment tired legs, and this will surely see him make an impact as he aims to improve his impressive goal ratio yet again now that he has reached fifty for his country. He and Kolehmainen are starting to develop an almost telepathic relationship, and even though there are whispers that this may be his last World Cup campaign, he hasn't let his age get in the way of a good performance.

#12 - GK - Artemiusz Korzhanenko - Age 29 -

SK Franz Josef City

- 44 Caps
Known for his strong performances whilst with the u-21s, Korzhanenko is nigh on unbeatable when running out for the ball in the box. He also has a great record in penalty shoot outs, and you never know when that might come in handy. Whilst he has lost the number one jersey to Kirilaunen over the course of the last few cycles, Korzhanenko is the consummate professional, and you won't see him causing a fuss from the bench. A great calming presence to have in the locker room, and now a Champions' Cup winner too.

#13 - GK - Alexis Sand - Age 27 -

Iturributa United (ITB)

Just as he was making his breakthrough at Red Star, Alexis Sand was whisked away by former Severny hero and now Iturributa United manager Petter Bielsen to make his name on the Goose Coast. With a decent stretch and a firm punch, he'll do well when defending set pieces in the box, and his reflexes are second to none. There have been some concerns raised over his tendency to stay on his line when a sweeper-keeper approach might be more appropriate, but he is young for a goalkeeper, yet and it is not difficult to see why he was snapped up by the Iturributan giants.

#14 - AMC - Linus Bosnjakovic - Age 26 -

Olympique de Fontvielle (VLD)

- 34 Caps, 7 Assists, 6 Goals
Moving back to RSK after a season spent on loan at Solovetsky Monastery re-energised this former striker, and, since it emerged he now prefers to operate behind the main strikers he has had his services acquired by Olympique de Fontvielle. He can spread the balls around at will, and he brings a one-touch one-two kind of speed and urgency around the box that the Terns aren't normally used to seeing. He'll certainly be a useful tool in Rasmussen's box of tricks, and he hasn't forgotten his striking instincts, either - just watch out for his fizzing shots given the time on the ball. He had an outstanding start to his Terns career with two assists and a goal in five matches, and he'll be determined to oust Zeljeznicar from the pecking order given half a chance.

#15 - DL - Fabian Vaaraniemi - Age 26 -

Raynor City United (VAL)

- 37 Caps, 4 Assists, 1 Goal
A hugely impressive series of performances in Divisjon One has seen this fleet of foot left back from the Flotilla make the spot on the bench for the Terns his own. Lightning fast and with a hefty amount of momentum given the chance to run, he will be hard to stop late on in games should he come on. Finally got his first goal with one of his trademark stinging free kicks, and when faced with an intensely defensive opponent, I wouldn't be surprised to see Rasmussen move Kungas-Vaga to defensive midfield and have Vaaraniemi on the pitch just to utilise his dead ball skills when near the opposition box. Intensely loyal to the Flotilla despite undoubtedly having the quality to strut his stuff for a CC-qualifying team, he will finally have the chance to prove his credentials after being made an offer by Raynor City United that he couldn't refuse. He is a noble player with a strong sense of fair play and absolutely deserves his affectionate nickname of 'Sir Fabian'.

#16 - DR - Alexis St Olaf - Age 27 -

Hondo FC (VAL)

Rasmussen unearthed something of a gem when he found St Olaf. Well known to Argonauts fans, his efforts had thus far eluded the attentions of the more international eye. Until his domestic manager became his national manager, that is. Fluent at playing on both flanks, it was Rasmussen himself who discovered Alexis St Olaf in the 'out tray' of the Haapa-Mechelin Academy and brought him back into the youth set-up, retraining him from a winger to a wing-back in the process, the same process current first-choice Bjerregaard has gone through just recently. Given the presence of Vaaraniemi in the squad it is likely we will only see St Olaf operating on the right this tournament, though in an emergency this versatile youngster can play pretty much anywhere but up front. His appearances for the Terns caught the eye of foreign clubs, and he now turns out for Vanorian outfit Hondo FC.

#17 - DMC - Anders Holzhauser - Age 21 -

Issington FC (APX)

- 6 Caps, 1 Assist
Came straight from the DBC to feature at his first Copa Rushmori, and did so again along with Bjerregaard in Charruterra. Holzhauser is a strong and tough-tackling defensive midfielder that has made quite an impact on Rasmussen, who has been to Apox several times to watch him play in the league. With a commanding presence, he quickly grabs the eye as he marshals the defence behind him, and though he is able to fill in at centre back should he be required to, Holzhauser has the urge and the ability to push forwards in possession of the ball and add a different dimension to the attack in the process. Exciting at Issington FC, and dominant on the pitch in his position as the Chicks captain, his Terns career is starting to blossom.

#18 - ST - Vadim Illich-Svitych - Age 29 -

Ituraitz FC (ASG)

- 79 Caps, 6 Assists, 23 Goals
One of the more eyebrow-raising selections in this squad, Illich-Svitych comes into the twenty-three with a host of experience, a point to prove, and a bad-ass name. Trusted and relied upon by Rasmussen in the past for both FC Axel Heiburg and the Terns, it is safe to say that he never quite hit the heights for the Terns that he managed for the Argonauts. After being dropped from the national team, his domestic form stuttered as well, and when the Argonauts had the opportunity to bring in Skorji Oslograd, Illich-Svitcyh was offered the golden handshake. Snapped up by Ituraitz FC, his service from Zeljeznicar has seen him regain his form in explosive style, so much so that Rasmussen would have been a fool not to select him. Let's hope things are better second time around for the born-again Illich-Svitych.

#19 - MC - Jorgen Kirvesniemi - Age 27 -

Fontvielle Impact (VLD)

- 54 Caps, 6 Assists, 5 Goals
Appearing regularly in the top flight for Rapid Jan Mayen and then later in Divisjon Two, his signing by Red Star Severny was seen another step in the young midfielder's development; not to mention being a decision that brought him to the attentions of first van der Riise, then Rasmussen, and then the Valladar giants of Fontvielle Impact. He has it all in his locker, and can twist and turn out of danger or provide a battling block as necessary. He can inspire and rifle in assists, or he can sit back and dictate play. Unwilling to let him become a positional expert, the coaches let him add to his arsenal of overall talents, a decision that is paying off now. Has been described in the past as another Hansen or Bielsen in the making, and his number of caps is testament to that when you consider he has only been first choice starter for the team at two tournaments. Incredibly versatile, incredibly reliable, incredibly determined - he's the perfect tournament player.

#20 - ST - Torsten Wolff - Age 24 -

Sporting Iturributa (ITB)

- 6 Caps, 2 Goals
Having made a good impression with the u-21s, Wolff is currently enjoying the plaudits following another fine domestic season, this time at Sporting Iturributa firing goals past his Terns teammate Sand. With an easy-going nature, his partnership with Frederiksen at the DBC had a distinct air of the odd-couple about it, but it nonetheless worked well, and his keen eye for the top corner of the goal from wherever he is in the box has made him a fan favourite. Having just pipped Frederiksen to the second substitute striker place in this squad, he'll be looking to come and cause some damage from the bench and prove his selection justified. And yes, he's heard all the wolf jokes already.

#21 - MC - Svenbjorn Einarsson - Age 25 -

Red Star are making a habit of producing impressive midfielders recently, and their management will be frustrated that Einarsson is another one that they've allowed to slip away through their fingers - in Svenbjorn's case, to Farfadillis, where his experience has seen him drop the "defensive" prefix from his job title and start adding goals and assists (not to mention player awards) to his game. Strong and acutely accurate with his passing, Einarsson is included as a near enough direct replacement for Cornelius should he get injured. Having impressed at the last World Cup, it is likely we will see plenty of Einarsson before the tournament is over, and his youthful energy and willingness to chase any seemingly lost cause could change a game late on. Though, questions remain over his ability to stay calm when provoked.

Blunt, abrasive, and aggressive; Salo is anything but the life and soul of a party. Not that this matters in central defence, of course, and whilst he will be the first to admit his fondness for hoofing the ball out of danger as soon as possible, this can sometimes be the appropriate response. With a sly elbow here and there, Salo is the master of getting away with little fouls when the officials aren't looking, and he can often be seen arguing on the pitch with his teammates, opposition strikers, the match officials, and even his own management team. He only does this because he has the team's best interests at heart however, and he is a keen team player; always being relied upon to give his all for his team, something his teammates at Echegoyan no doubt appreciate. You want him with you rather than against you, that's for sure.

As a multiple title-winning defender with the formidable 'Golden Generation' of FC Axel Heiburg, Soren Rovanpera is well known to Rasmussen from his time there. Wise beyond his years, Soren is capable of marking even the very best players out of the game on his day, and he can frustrate and torment like a pro, teasing more than one volatile striker into a sending off in his time. Was once a regular in the Terns line-up before falling out of favour, he has now been called up to prove he has what it takes to keep younger defenders than he out of the squad on a more permanent basis.

TACTICS: "The Pythagorean" 2-3-3-2
The Polarian game is fast, quick, and physical. They won't give you a second on the ball to think, and they won't hold back in the tackle. In the centre of the park they will play a possession based midfield game of triangles, though a defence splitting pass could come at any moment towards the fast and direct attack. Rasmussen plays a narrow and heavily modified diamond formation dubbed the Pythagorean by the sporting press. It is reliant upon two key triangular sets of players that transcend the normal "rows" of player in conventional formation layouts. Nordenberg, Lucic, and Lillehammer will act as the defensive triangle, and Zeljeznicar, Saarinen, and Kolehmainen will counter at the other end as the offensive triangle. Lillehammer and Zeljeznicar's roles in this scheme are absolutely crucial, as their job is to support and unlock the other two players in their respective triangles, providing outlets and creativity in abundance. Villeneuve and Cornelius are part of a compact and creative midfield that will supply steel or style whenever the situation demands it, as well as partnering up with their respective full backs to form a kind of "bumper" that sweeps the flanks in attack or folds in to protect the penalty area in defence. Fitness of all players will therefore be key to the success of this plan; not just the constant positional changing demanded of Lillehammer and Zeljeznicar, but the athleticism of Bjerregaard and Küngas-Vaga in particular will also be tested to the limit as their roles require frequent attacking. It's not quite a 4-3-3, it's not quite a 4-1-2-1-2, and it's not quite a W-M... Alright, alright, it's more or less a W-M with a focus on two specific trios of players. It's the Pythagorean.

CB--Max "Crash" McGuire--3--24 y/o--Free Agent--McGuire is a large centre back,known for his controversial "crashing" tackles,which sometimes get the ball clean or sometimes earns him red cards,but the end result is always his opponent ending up on the floor.This tactic infuriated Kew Crescents' board so much that they released him at the end of last season. Despite,or maybe because of his aggressive tendencies and free agency,McGuire was called up to the national team.

LB--Zachary Paulino--2--28 y/o--Durford Electric Football--Paulino was never a real gem,never a show stealer,never the shining star. What he is,though,is dependable and solid, a good team man. Despite his lack of presence, Paulino was able to find a place on the national team.

RB--Daniel B.H.--5--21 y/o--Kiely F.C.--B.H,which stands for Benson-Hodges, is a young,hot prospect called up from the under-21s,and has already developed a tactical knowledge of that comparable to veterans. Traversen called him up to the team not just for playing years beyond his age,he is also a speedy player and often plays down the wing as well.

DMF--Torranto Norancorze--15--32 y/o--Melrose United--Norancorze has simply stunning accuracy in his passing game,being one of only three players to complete the Nazir passing challenge,one of the most arduous challenges in Julain,hosted by Adam Nazir himself on Julain's national football show. Norancorze does lack any form of attacking skill,though,and famously blasted a penalty against a lower-league team out of the admittedly tiny stadium.

LMF--Oliver Swift--8--26 y/o--Marley F.C--Swift was two-time player of the year,and looked all set to win the award again this season,but a knee injury has sidelined Swift for half the season. He's back in time for the World Cup,but only time will tell whether his injury will show or not.

Sometimes he plays as a laid-back passer,finding people with intricate through balls,or other times he sprints up and down the wing like a mad dog. That said, he did manage the Paladins to a third-place finish in CoH 55, and he did rack up a full 9 points in the group stages of WC64. He will insist that the powers that be fund the side better before he takes the job, though. He got the job after an apprenticeship under Sol Kirkkegaard, and prior to that, he spent 16 years as an AMF on the Paladins and in the upper echelon of the NMSFL (admittedly non-scorinated.)

AT THE WORLD CUP 67

If Magic is what you like, then Kitsunia-Deesse is what you probably wanted all along. Originally formed at the Unzucneru Association, later moving to Emirates of Futurnia and finally to the region of Rushmore, the Kitsunians aren't really regarded as a tough team at football, mostly thanks to the lack of skill that the national team has. However, this may all change a bit with how the new leader of Kitsunia-Deesse, the eleventh incarnation of La Déesse at this Moon cycle, Clare. An enthusiast of association football ever since she was born (to the point of her actually playing some few games with Renault and Juneau while the tenth incarnation of La Déesse was still alive and ruling the land), Clare seems to be making developments on the football of the Holy Kitsunian Empire.

The land of Kitsunia-Deesse is interesting for a couple of reasons, mostly its' population, consisting of Kitsunes, beings that resemble the common fox but with two or more tails and with magical abilities, normally used to earn human appearence if they ever get to work or live somewhere else; the Ósceans (or Óceans), shark-like creatures that prefer to live near the sea and have to stay at least two hours under water for their own health; the Basswulves (or Basswulfs), wolf-like creatures who tend to not be a lot docile and are mostly used as guards and the Bravians, winged creatures that tend to care more for knowledge and culture than anything else. Supposedly, there are more types of species that aren't huge or just unrepresented, as some of the areas of the country are still to be explored, but for now, aside from the four classics, we have "Les Marilles", which is pretty much any Pokémon that may or may not have travelled from Northern Sunrise Islands on hopes of a new life and "Les Visites", which corresponds to whatever else does not fit at any of the other groups. And Missingno. But that's just a legend. (We think.)

Geography-wise, it's a considerably vast nation, making use of magic to avoid being noticed or even mapped by anyone else, though they probably are just isolated at a part of the sea and instead make use of magic to be "related" to their region. The nation has a couple of states, though a decent number of these may have been founded by Les Marilles or Les Visites and a couple of oversea islands, such as Océane Domáines, home of most of the Ósceans and Yi-Pin, who slowly earns more and more land because of some strange vulcanic activity that just spurts more and more land. The capital of Kitsunia-Deesse is Gloire, located at Cápitale, a province in the center of the country, rounded and protected by the provinces of Fortune, Alpines and Sioux.

Mirko Parlato:
A complete midfielder and the nations best player and captain, Parlato boasts an excellent passing ability, both short and long, and is the main creative outlet, whilst still retaining the grinta and strength and tackling ability of an old school defensive midfielder, and above all is an excellent reader of the game. However he lacks height and jumping ability and is often caught out in aerial challenges.

Leonardo:
A near complete forward, Leodardo is pacey, physically strong, technically gifted, and is a lethal finisher. His key weakness is his volatile temper, which often gets him into trouble, and affects his game.

Buyan Quick-Guide

Geography: Eleven islands, spotted across a northern Esportivan sea, constitute the nation of Buyan. The biggest of them are Valneda, which houses the unofficial capital city Pajukas, and Mullsphall, home of Vadshult and Bengtsmark, and Trovne, home of Pallstadt. The climate is cold and northern, but not arctic. There is only limited elevation on most of the islands, with the notable exceptions of Serkau and Mullsphall.

History: After many years of bickering amongst a variety of kings, the islands constituted a loose union in 1859 supported by liberal forces. Three-quarters of a century later, the illustrious Bread Protests lay the foundation for a communist union. In 1987, this union, led by the Liiga got dismissed by Ernst Pulnov, who lay the foundation of post-communist dictatorship.

Politics: For thirteen years now, the Empire of Buyan gets ruled by Kazys Portnii, the Leader for Life. ‘Hurra Portnii’ appears on a variety of banners across the nation. His power is wide, but there is mainly apathy concerning politics. Each town tries to do it on his own, each island focusses on itself... Leader Portnii is supported by local Secretaries, sometimes pawns, sometimes ambitious rivals.

Economy: Years and years of depression and recession have scarred our economy horrifically. Especially the focus on older industry during the Pulnov-area hasn’t done well. The brand-new Pulnov Labs for Modern Technology should give a new vibe to the economy, but the first real results aren’t seen yet on the horizon. Overall, it’s an impoverished nation.

Sports: The long ban on group gatherings by the Liiga Communista and the focus on so-called higher culture, such as penmanship and sculpture, haven’t done well to our team sports. Only recently, rugby, basket and football have come to flourish. The ‘pure’ sports, such as boxing, swimming, running, rowing and cycling, are still receiving a lot of interests, but showed to be below average when matched with the outside world.

Buyan Football

Thirty-eight years ago, a couple of Esportivan communist exchange students decide to kick a ball around on a field not too far away from Vadshult. After a lot of history, we’re now the year 2016 and football is tilting the crown of the most popular sport in the archipelago, especially in the western part of the eleven islands. In the second season of the unified Top Division, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis has grabbed the crown once again. During the course of these qualifications, season number three will be developed, while four of our teams participate in the UICA competitions. The official national competition contains 47 teams and is still up to expansion, but its popularity mainly lies on the many local teams. Especially in the western part, football is the main sport, whilst being opposed to the popularity of rugby and basket in the east.

Being a newer nation, there is still room for tactical development. However, the days where everyone played 3-4-3 and rushed forward, are over already. Current Buyanese football is usually noted by powerfield midfield play, with a lot of forward focus transcended in one man: a team is often defined by its type of attacking midfielder and the position is probably a bit overrated. Navickas and Cedar, by example, have grown into the posterboys of the competition that way and only Sverre Devold is more popular. The new generations, however, demonstrated that the danger doesn't have to come from one person only and the ability from Viztourzys and more recently Pallstadt have allowed them to grow to the highest level.

It is expected that Hope will attempt to stamp out that tradition with a midfield where the wings can produce a lot of danger as well, but with a larger focus on the defending as a whole. It's a typical vision in Buyan to see attacking players stay forward when the opposing team launches an attack, causing a lot of pressure and goals. Hope wants a sturdy defense, unless there are opportunities on the wing, with Naess and Wreczius as a double lock on the door. The midfielders will receive the clear message to work along at all times and it's no hazard that Havelund, a strong working attacker, still holds the central attacker spot over the more lazy Mattisson.

The current record line looks rather limited, keeping in mind that they’ve only gotten to sixteen international games so far. The first six were played in the qualifying phase of the Campionato Esportiva, where novice Buyan got drawn with Hessington Island, Dandillis and New Sideburn. Against similarly inexperienced Hessington Island, two victories were obtained, whilst all other four games were lost without marking a goal. Not the kind of record that makes one optimistic, but during their home games against both Dandillis and New Sideburn, they showed good football with hope for the future.

They lived up to that prospect with an excellent run in the Baptism of Fire, where they took out Dutzenderland, Crya and The Holy Forden Church in the group stage, before qualifying over Ceni for the quarterfinal. Said duel against Kitsunia-Deesse was ended with a glorious 3-1. The semifinal was a close encounter, but a goal from Elmo Havelund placed them for the final, where it remained nil-nil against The Sarian till the final whistle. Ultimately, a 7-6 penalty series decided upon the victor of the BoF 54.

The expectations for this WC qualifying are rather low. The performances in the Confederations’ Cup, where all games were lost, immediately made clear that we’re dealing with a different level now. Making the top five in our group would already be a good scoreline.

Buyan Squad

1. Anders Bergh --- GK --- 30, Jottnar Kallsmudden, --- 27 caps

Few players are so uncontested for their starting spot in the team as captain Anders Bergh. Bergh combines experience with fitness and has the authority to guide his defence through stormy waters. His performances in the CE, where he kept out everything that wasn’t uncatchable, backed this up and he continued this streak during an extraordinary BoF. Eventually, he became the hero of the decisive penalty shoot-out. After playing for Stovsand and Fiarsdal, Bergh was contracted by Jottnar six seasons ago. It’s clear that ‘the Giants’ haven’t regretted this move so far, as he was and is the pillar in difficult times. He’s the master in his goal area, his only weakness might be if he’s nailed to his line.

12. Jan Erhardt --- GK --- 20, Blau-Weiss Pallstadt, --- 0 caps

Many reacted surprised in the beginning of the season, when manager Kullersdorf let go of Ulle Seber and placed a 19-year old youth product beneath the crossbar of Blau-Weiss. He probably hasn’t regretted this move as his squad was the revelation of the year and Erhardt showed why he was such a prodigy. Quick thinking, no fear and long limbs, this boy has it all. His only weakness is his cool in vital moments, but that’s just his youth, the supporters claim. Sirius Hope noticed his potential and allowed him to pick up experience with a spot as third goalie. He might get some field moments in a friendly, but nothing more.

23. Ulle Seber --- GK --- 26, Garbarnia Hoyersko, --- 5 caps, 1 sub

The year of the breakthrough for Ulle Seber, last season. After a long time of service for Blau-Weiss Pallstadt, he made an unexpected move to the Tanners. His new home crowd wasn’t enthused at first, as he replaced club monument Hlawiczka, but his monumental saves and long-distance throws have gained him a spot in their hearts. Seber demonstrated already that he is a worthy alternative for Bergh, if something would go wrong. ‘Der Schrei’, as he is nicknamed for his active style of coaching, is not without mistake once out of goal, but amazing on his line. Takes the field if Bergh is injured and tries to move a step up the ladder in time.

17. Alowysz Krupa --- LD --- 32, Garbarnia Hoyersko, --- 11 caps, 7 subs

The oldest player of the selection and one of the more reserved members of the squad. Alowysz is not sure of his spot as left defender, but might be staged against stronger opponents. His style is very unnoticeable, but he is reliable and stubborn. Time hasn’t made him a bit slower and he knows all the tricks in the book to hold back a wing attacker. Consistency is the key for this man who has been a stronghold for Garbarnia ever since they signed him. Critics fear that top international level is a bit too much for him, but his experience will be important in our young defensive line-up and he can keep his brain together in dodgy moments, as shown in the penalty shoot-out of the BoF.

2. Kazimieras Zemaitis --- LD --- 20, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis, --- 22 caps, 2 subs, 1 goal

Things are going fast for this youngster. Three years ago, he played for the minnow Komanda Zaipis, but right now he has grown into a bright prospect and a member of the Golden BoF Team. With his impeccable speed, daring rushes and sharp tackles, he fought himself into the starting eleven of the double national champion and his performances in the UICA demonstrate that this might not be the end station for him. Comes out of another great season, where his assisting passes are a delight for the fans. His talent is without question, but he sometimes still struggles with the balance between attack and defence. It does allow him to be staged as a pure wing as well.

19. Bart Valminen --- CD --- 30, IFK Pollmarnang, --- 1 cap, 2 subs

Much to everyone’s surprise, Bart Valminen was amongst the 26 who entered in the initial training camp and he continued this with a spot in the BoF selection. Valminen ain’t the most technical of defenders, but his reliability inspired Hope to add him to the selection. After playing for Haljo Vannarby for years, he joined Pollmarnang this season. A step back by a defender who had his best time, said the whisperers, but Valminen knew a second spring. His excellent season got rewarded with this spot, but the chances that he’ll get off the bench are slim. His first game, against Kitsune-Déesse almost ended in disaster after a miss-timed offside moment, but he’s a real team player in which Hope puts trust.

4. Bronius Bartkus --- CD --- 24, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis, --- 32 caps, 1 goal

The key factor in defence, Bartkus is respected amongst both teammates and foes. However, he hasn’t been able to set his mark on the national team as much as he did in his domestic team, where he is the captain and the rock on which coach Zarnevidis build a back-to-back champion. As a modern defender, he combines prime heading and tackling with the capacity to do more than a simple pass when in possession. His skill is without discussion, but that bit more experience will be needed if he really wants to grow above. The fact that he’s the penalty taker for Buyan does, however, indicate the amount of class this lad has.

26. Garion Bytnar --- CD --- 30, Garbarnia Hoyersko, --- 0 caps

One of the additions to the enlarged squad for the qualifiers series, Garion Bytnar should be considered an addition to deal with the injury from Jonas Englund. He’ll remain last one in the row of central defenders and should be staged in combination with one of the young, quick horses. Bytnar is a bit slow and according to rumours, he enjoys his beer after the training a bit too much to reach top class. Either way, he’ll never be a speedy one, but his positioning is out of the book. Few can mark an attacker purely by cutting off all roads towards him like Bytnar. The question remains whether such is enough to survive on the highest level. One of the steady forces of the Tanners.

3. Sigurd Tufte --- CD/DM --- 22, Dinamo Esca, --- 27 caps

Key figure in the golden generation of Jottnar Kallsmudden, all expected him in the starting team for the CE. However, his position was a bit more unexpected. Originally a central defender, coach Ulvan turned him into a midfield during the past twelve months. An evolution that went with ups and downs, but it did allow his offense capacities to flourish. In the Campionato, Tufte was pushed back a line into central defence and critics say that he’s not used to that anymore. In this position, he already took a lot of cards as he steps out a bit too quickly from time to time, but he keeps on growing. Received a chance to go to the highly-valued Mytanar Top League, a big step for him but the way to become a true international player.

13. Jonas Englund --- CD --- 26, Bengtsmark IF, --- 4 caps, 2 subs

A favourite amongst the Bengtsmark fans for his experience and the way he juggles heading and speed. For the Mullsphaller team, he has grown into a key player, but the same path hasn’t been followed so far for the national squad. His three caps weren’t really convincing, especially against New Sideburn he came in trouble time and time again. Nonetheless, he will probably still be the first central defender on the bench as soon as he recovers from a nasty shin injury during the BoF quarterfinals against Kitsunia-Deesse. We don’t expect him before the mid-qualifying point. Prefers the long pass above the combination and goes along on corners.

5. Gabriel Refshauge --- RD --- 30, Tjelberg Forening, --- 31 caps, 1 goal

Adding Refshauge to the squad wasn’t already a certainty, but putting him in the starting spot was considered one of the boldest moves from Sirius Hope. The right defender was considered too weak, especially if one looks to his team, but the way he lifts up Tjelberg every game again convinced the national coach. He has lived up to the standard with his unexciting, but efficient style. Refshauge adds little in attack, but has the necessary positioning and experience to both keep his wing covered and give a hand in the centre. His excellent BoF gained him trust amongst the fans and Refshauge is now a certainty in a young defence. Offensively, he’s not the greatest addition but considering the skill of the opponents, he’s respected by Hope.

25. Wilco Vrintz --- RD --- 24, Blau-Weiss Pallstadt, --- 1 cap, 1 sub

Vrintz is one of the guys who recently came to the surface, along with his team. He’s a different type than the usual right defender, Refshauge, in as much that he tends to go forward every once and a while. He’s also a dangerous weapon on corner kicks, as he got in three headers last season. Vrintz still lacks experience, especially on the highest level and should rather be seen as an option for the future. Hope dropped once that he would want to play with offensive wingbacks one day against weaker opponents and that’s where Vrintz gets in the picture. Defensively, he’s not perfect yet, but a fourth season with Blau-Weiss will only make that better.

6. Danilius Wreczius --- DM --- 29, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis, --- 28 caps

The career-planning of this 29-year old architect is near to perfect. He put his first steps on the field for Sparta Torspeda, a team known for their youth academy. He gained authority and composure playing for low-ranked Zeimgava, developed into a first-class player in Pajukas Sport and won a transfer to Viztourzys with his recuperation of the ball. He’s a pillar of all squads he ever played in due to his cool on the ball. When in trouble, pass to Dani. No wonder he is the first player Sirius Hope puts on the board, whatever the tactic of the day is. During the BoF, a bit of fear came into his game, but Wreczius is still a silent force for the national team. He’s not going to show up in front of goal a lot as he prefers the shadow both on and off the field.

20. Harald Naess --- DM --- 30, Bengtsmark IF, --- 22 caps, 1 sub, 1 goal

Jack the Ripper, they call him after his feared tackle, but such would do little honour to his other qualities. He’s a defensive midfield, but his right foot is skilled. No wonder that he left a giant gap in Jottnar when he exchanged them for Bengtsmark last season. Over there, he immediately fit in splendidly in the passing game. Prefers a 4-2-3-1 for the offensive opportunities it gives him, as he is prone to pick up a goal along the way, and that will be the system where he receives his playing minutes. Appreciated amongst all teammates, he’s also important for the atmosphere. Adding him to the base eleven was considered as the last piece in a fitting puzzle by Hope as he can operate as a real box-to-box.

28. Andreas Ohlin --- DM --- 23, Bengtsmark IF, --- 0 caps

Sirius Hope makes a point of adding younger players to the group in order to allow them to gain the necessary high quality training minutes. Used to playing along Naess in the domestic competition, he’s a bit similar to Wreczius. A working force go allows a positive balance on the field and a calm passer. One addition to his skill set is his monstrous kick from far out, which allows him to pick up a goal every once and a while. Currently starts his fourth season for Bengtsmark IF and should be able to move forward in the national team within a few years, but right now he’s got to take patience and attempt to evolve his game.

21. Jaro Martinek --- CM --- 24, Garbarnia Hoyersko, --- 3 caps, 10 subs, 1 goal

Some guys have class injected straight into their DNA. Son of a member of the legendary Hoyersko Fighters, Martinek carries his legacy with pride and dedication. Already in his youth, he consistently was the linchpin of every team he played for. His vision is majestic, his passes precise and his free kicks are always a danger to the opposing keeper. No wonder that he’s already captain for the Tanners and was on his way to lead them to another Globe Cup berth. A knee injury held them from that accomplishment and also left him out of the CE. He’s back, but will start on the bench. His last minute goal in the quarterfinals shows that it’s only the pure class of Naess that keeps him out of the squad as he’s a true box-to-box with a vicious kick.

10. Sverre Devold --- CM --- 22, Barbury Town, --- 29 caps, 1 sub, 4 goals

Even more than in other nations, the number ten is considered an honorary position in Buyan. Although the attacking midfields of the big Two hoped for it, Sverre Devold is the ideal man for the position. Two seasons ago, he was named the man of the season playing for Jottnar, which got him an interesting transfer to the ANL, the top flight of Apoxian football. Playing with internationals like Nagatomo, Kolo and Karrka, allowed the development of the Million Man to continue. In the national team, he still struggled a bit in the Campionato but during the Baptism of Fire, he blossomed and became one of the monumental players of the tournament. His suspension for the final was a massive blow for us as he’s really the hinge on which the squad grows above itself.

22. Magnus Cedar --- AM --- 31, Bengtsmark IF, --- 1 cap, 1 sub

Emperor Magnus was the most expensive transfer ever made domestically when he migrated from Vadshult to Bengtsmark. Ever since, he developed into the captain of this team and until the growth of Devold, he was considered the best player of the archipelago. It’s a pity for him that Buyan didn’t get abroad earlier. His star faded a little lately, after a moderate season for his team. He struggles to live up to the speed of international football and might not grab too many minutes. However, when in form, he’s one of those few players that can both score and allow others to mark. Will, however, probably only be staged by Hope against slower opponents as these allow him more to develop his game.

8. Frederik Wallenberg --- LM --- 29, Avenida Leal, --- 22 caps, 4 subs, 3 goals

Stubborn, they call him. Wally was one of the main players for Bengtsmark IF, but a fall-out with the management made him defect to their eternal rival, Haljo Vannarby. With a squad build around him, this left foot guided Haljo to a calm mid-table season. His skill is recognisable, but his character might be a tougher nut. He combines a vicious free kick and daring play with quite a bit of a temper sometimes. For the national team, he can be very important both central as on the wing and since his surprise inclusion against Hessington Island, he’s one of Hope’s usual building stones. Was important for our BoF victory and it even got him a transfer to a Farf team, the up-and-coming Avenida Leal.

7. Quinten Zermin --- LM --- 26, Tjelberg Forening, --- 10 caps, 7 subs, 1 goal

What Der Kampfer lacks in class, he makes up in dedication. Previously, he was an important pawn for Aigil Grephel and he picked up this role for Tjelberg as well. Zermin never gives in nor complains and it’s no wonder why Hope added him to the national team. He even kicked himself into the history books when he scored the only goal against Hessington Island, marking our first score ever. He’s more defensive than Wallenberg and will probably be chosen in more difficult games. He certainly has the necessary heart to drag this team over the line, but isn’t flawless. Gets on the field in the 4-1-4-1, where he leaves the necessary spaces for the defender behind him.

29. Theo Hueppe --- LM --- 27, Blau-Weiss Pallstadt, --- 0 caps

Some players are already top notch in the youth categories, for others it takes a bit more time. Hueppe clearly is off the latter type, fighting adversity throughout his complete career. He even quit football for a few years in his early twenties and got signed by Blau-Weiss after a season in the amateur leagues. In his third year for the Trovne side, Hueppe grew to a decisive player, who can add goals and assists to the counter whilst keeping up with his defensive obligations. He’s not the youngest anymore, but it seems as if time is ticking in his favour. Might not grab a lot of playing minutes, but if he continues his great form for Pallstadt, such might change.

14. Eero Halmiini --- RM --- 23, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis, --- 10 caps, 7 subs, 1 goal

Few players combine class with elegance like Eero Halmiini and those who do aren’t born in Buyan. In a competition where harsh tackles and long kicks are usually what thrills the crowd, Halmiini is an enlightenment and revelation. His dribbling, often pinching in from the wing, is unmatched. Defensively, this short player has his limits and that doesn’t always fit in the balance. But during his previous games, he demonstrated that he can give the team an attractive vibe, just like he does for Viztourzys. His most often cited lack is his difficulty to score, if he can add that, he’s a pro. Is one of the driving forces behind the successes of the Kolektyvinis and widely appreciated on the transfer market.

15. Marco Castell --- RM --- 25, Canterlot Royals, --- 21 caps, 4 subs, 2 goals

One of the first Buyanese players to test his luck abroad, Castell has become a vital player for the Equestrian Canterlot Royals, a respected name in UICA football. His great strength, rushes along the wing, really gets developed over there and it makes him one of the major talents of Buyan. For the national side, however, things weren’t running that smooth. The combination with Havelund was moderate and Hope decided to place him on the bench till further notice. An injury of Halmiini came in the right moment and his opening goal in the quarterfinal demonstrated why Castell is a player of international stature. During this WC qualifiers, we can think of many opponents that will be ripped apart by ‘Der Express’. However, he will have to continue to fight for his spot, as Halmiini is back in form.

24. Crassus Hopp --- RM/RA --- 24, FC Nova Tunis, --- 2 caps, 2 subs

It came as a bit of a surprise that Crassus was not included for any of the tournaments so far, but Hope rectified this for these qualifiers. Hopp is an interesting youth product from Bengtsmark IF, whose dribbles and tricks excite the fans and son of the well-known Edison Hopp. In the past, he had trouble to be a punisher in front of goal but he made up for this last season with quite a few quality balls past the goalie. It earned him a transfer to Taijan, where he will reinforce FC Nova Tunis to support Golden Boot winner Kifazgol towards a title. It’s still a question mark whether he will shine for Buyan as well, as his temper got infamous in Buyan after pushing over a referee in a Top Division duel. The fresh air will do him good, as his capacities certainly are national team material.

18. Vincas Daukas --- LA --- 28, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis, --- 0 caps, 5 subs

What makes the final conclusion on an attacker? The goals. If one man understands that, it is Vincas Daukas. His style is moderate, often even named unattractive, but the effectiveness is a fact. For the second year in a row, Daukas became the national topscorer, supported by a good squad that is familiar with his capacity to pop up in front of the goalie unexpected. However, he doesn’t really fit with the ideas from Sirius Hope on football, which resulted in nil starting positions so far. A disappointment for Daukas, without a doubt, but he might be the white rabbit Hope pulls out of the hat if the single attacker fails to make the difference. He usually prefers to operate from the left wing, but could be staged on the other side of the pitch as well.

16. Edvald Mattisson --- CA --- 28, Bengtsmark IF, --- 15 caps, 12 subs, 8 goals

When Buyanese supporters discuss their competition, Mattisson is from time to time described as the anti-Daukas. He’s long, he’s tall, he’s a beast in the box. Especially with the head, he’s punishing for Bengtsmark, that lost the battle for the highest honour for the second year in a row in the last games. The same not-yet history has marked his career in the national squad so far. Surprisingly, he wasn’t chosen to start by Hope and that hasn’t changed so far. Matti continues to battle for his positions and might be the addition that makes tired defenders squeak. His double score against Dutzenderland demonstrated that and he’s still the player with the highest ‘goals per minute’-stat after that.

11. Elmo Havelund --- CA --- 27, IFK Pollmarnang, --- 16 caps, 5 subs, 6 goals

A teacher. Our first attacker still fills in some hours at the middle school of Pollmarnang and is along with Refshauge one of the few non-professionals on the team. It was much to anyone’s surprise, amongst which his own, that Havelund got the starting spot in the national team. A similar type as Mattisson, a long guy with a good header, he seemed destined for the bench but his goals for a mid-table squad got remarked. Technically he is very poor, but his hard work is appreciated by the team. 30. Gabrielius Vilkas --- CA/RA --- 29, Pajukas Sport, --- 0 caps

For the umpteenth season in a row, Vilkas could build on the road towards the top. In a team that struggled to deliver, Vilkas showed that he can pick up his goal at all times if on the receiving end of some attentive midfielders. A drought near the end of the season made him one of the players who was dropped for the Baptism of Fire, but we wouldn’t claim this to be the end of Vilkas for the national team. In form, he might be the type that Hope would like to test in a two-attacker system. We’re looking forward to his first minutes, especially if he picks up a good season with his domestic squad. He’s usually right footed.

9. Sil Moen --- L/RA --- 25, Tjelberg Forening, --- 9 caps, 9 subs, 2 goals

The former attacker from Jottnar is the odd one out in our offensive possibilities. Coming from the wing, he brings excitement to the fans. This stubborn player –his trouble with the staff caused a transfer to Tjelberg Forening- combines good passing with good thinking and often appears in the box when no one expects it. He’s rather short, but muscled, and has an interesting assisting pass. As he can be used as a semi-midfield as well, he is one of the pawns with which Hope can shuffle around. Especially on the left side, he brings something no one else on board can. An additional thumbs-up for his cleverness, as it allows Hope to vary in his tactical schemes, something the national manager greatly appreciates.

27. Jochen Ptak --- LA/RA --- 19, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis, --- 1 cap, 1 sub

The youngest of them all, Jochen Ptak will mainly look forward to prove himself on the training ground and trying to grab a spot on the bench. Less than a season ago, he was the third attacker in the row for Garbarnia, in a 4-5-1 system. During the President’s Cup, he showed what he was capable off and it was the start of a dream season where he knocked himself into the eleven with a lot of goals. He’s got the moves, a bit of dash and a lot of guts and brings on the field that little bit of magic. However, it will take a lot more time before Ptak really can move up the ranks of the football team as he struggled to keep that form later on in the season. Can he shine for Viztourzys as well?

Buyan Staff

After a catastrophic injury in the Paradisian Cup, the ex-international defender took to coaching and acted as Assistant Manager to the Paradystopi squad under Marina Hayduff. In the WC66 cycle, he took over the lead position of the staff and lead his team in an exciting run, which brought them within inches of the World Cup. In search of more credibility, he took up the challenge to bring modern football capacity to Buyan, a difficult task, to say the least. The success in the BoF enlarged his credit amongst the criticasters.

Assistant: Frederich Allersham,

At the age of 73, Frederich knows more about Buyanese football than anyone else. Legend goes that he participated in the first game ever on our ground, but official stats see him only as a coach. His career seemed to end when he got sacked after ten years of duty in Pallstadt, but he turned out to be the ideally fitting counterpart to Hope with his calm experience.

After using regular blues for the Campionato Esportiva, Buyan addressed Vulpine Sportif that provided these magnificent kits for them. The usual shirts will be the red ones on the left, which will be matched with blue shorts and red socks. Buyan Stadiums

Half of the home games will be played in the modern Havssidanstadion in Bengtsmark, which leaves room for 6.000 people. Opposing teams will receive 800 tickets for sale. The stadium normally is the home of Bengtsmark IF.

Two of the home games (opponents from pot 8 and 4) will be played in Unter dem Linden in Pallstadt, which has room for 5.500 supporters. Opposing teams will receive 750 tickets for sale. The stadium normally is the home of Blau-Weiss Pallstadt.

Two of the home games (opponents from pot 3 and 9) will be played in the slightly older Bokstasstadon in Pajukas, with 7.000 seats until recently the largest in the nation. Opposing teams will receive 900 tickets for sale. The stadium is the home stadium of Pajukas Sport.

Buyan Style

Buyan usually plays in a 4-1-4-1 against a weaker side whilst choosing for a 4-2-3-1 against stronger opponents, although Sirius Hope showed that he could be lenient about this. Judging by the Baptism of Fire, it seems that the eleven shown below will form the starting line-up against weaker opponents. The central duo is young, but has talent in abundance and know very well both how to start an organised build-up and play a clever long pass to Havelund. On the right wing, Refshauge does the clean-up for the slightly lazy Halmiini, on the other side, Zemaitis gets the support from Zermin to do the wing from time to time. In attack, Havelund is the lone man in attack. Wreczius is the vacuum cleaner behind star player Sverre Devold, Wallenberg supports him in the midfield.

Against tougher opponents, Hope tends to sub off one of the midfielders –presumably Wallenberg or Zermin- and bring in Harald Naess for more balance in a 4-2-3-1. A milder form of that tactic is to replace Zemaitis by the more defensive Krupa. Apart from those tactics, there have already been experiments with a 3-3-3-1 with three central defenders, three attacking midfields, Wreczius as the lock and Castell and Zemaitis on the wings. A diamond 4-4-2 is another option, either with the two towers or with Daukas or Moen.

Nation Background

A protectorate of the Auroral Technocratic Union of Mizuyuki, Kitsuneshima is a relatively new nation, having only been formed through a secession of a number of Mizuyuki's island colonies from its local administration a year previously. However, this change is said in political circles to be merely cosmetic, as the Auroral Union remains in de facto control over the entire island chain in the prefecture due to the "revolutionaries" being unable to gain international recognition as a sovereign country.

Mizuyuki's comparatively overwhelming military might cast a shadow over Kitsuneshima. Following months of negotiations between Premier Reizei Mikoto of Mizuyuki and the revolutionaries, the island chain of Kitsuneshima was officially made a protectorate of Mizuyuki, formally The Scattered Isles of Kitsuneshima, Protectorate of the Auroral Technocratic Union of Mizuyuki. However, a clause exists in the official treaty that compromises Kitsuneshima's already insignificant "independence"; Mizuyuki retains the right to revoke their protectorate status and reintegrate Kitsuneshima into their territories without notice. That being the case, however, during her opening speech at an official ceremony held at Kizuna Kyūden (絆宮殿) to recognise Kitsuneshima as a protectorate of the Auroral Union, Premier Reizei of Mizuyuki assured the leaders of Kitsuneshima that she did not have any plans to sanction such a revocation of their status as long as her party was in power in the Mizuyuki National Diet.

Soon afterwards, a puppet government of the Auroral Union was put into place; the leaders of the revolution were given nominal positions in the newly formed Kitsuneshima cabinet, which is known as The Committee of Judgment （判決委員会）, Hanketsu Iinkai, (Judgment for short) while a loyalist of the Mizuyuki administration, Mikazuki Akira （三日月　明）, the sister of Mizuyukian Minister of Education Mikazuki Jin （三日月仁） was installed as the Mizuyukian High Commissioner in Kizuna. A caricature of Akira is prominently displayed on the flag of Kitsuneshima, and she is set to continue presiding over the Scattered Isles for at least the duration of Reizei's term as Premier of Mizuyuki.

Team Background

A group of ragtag professionals that originally held Mizuyukian citizenship, the members that make up Kitsuneshima's team are footballers that defected to Kitsuneshima following the Treaty of Kizuna that officially declared Kitsuneshima as a protectorate of Mizuyuki in protest of the decision. They claim that the formation of Kitsuneshima as a protectorate and not a fully independent country is unlawful, and thus chose to protest the decision by claiming Kitsunian citizenship and playing for their hatchling national team. However, since the Treaty of Kizuna holds that all citizens of Kitsuneshima are, by extension, citizens of Mizuyuki, this move was also criticised by many as ineffectual and merely a plea to garner attention.

Led by the enigmatic former Mikan Wave coach Mihashi Chiyo, the Kitsunes (or alternatively Foxes) play rather offensively, with the team's heat maps showing that they often set up camp in their opponent's half while being content to let their defence remain threadbare. Kitsuneshima may be offensively oriented, but Mihashi favours an unconventional false nine formation (akin to RL Barcelona) that does not employ a true striker. Rather, the team's attacking midfielder, usually Sakurada Sachiko, plays as the focal point of the team's attack, both from a creative and finishing standpoint.

The Ministry of Morale is pleased to present the official NMS Paladins roster for World Cup 67. Manager Israel Klimt returns most of his starters from an uneven AOCAF 42 campaign, with one major exception: John Randle-Cunningham, having lost two or three steps since WC66, lost his spot on the national team. The hopes and dreams of Paladins faithful now rest on Jean-Paul Bonhomme - "Jean le Foot" to the NM Patriotes faithful - whose electrifying speed, killer finishing instincts, and off-the-charts cockiness have polarized football fans across the 'States. Whether he can lead the Paladins past the Men in Mauve and into another Finals remains to be seen.

Elsewhere, Beau Bagby will look to keep the offense humming after Charles Forcier resigned his post as assistant manager and entered rehab after his arrest for DUI. Réjean Collet joins his brother Auguste in the backfield, as the Paladins continue their hunt for a back line that won't concede four or five goals during big games. Sol Jensen-Beaupré and Phillippe Delafrénière have grown together as replacements for the retired Fred Nguyen in midfield. And everyone else has stopped reading by now, so we'll stop typing.
