OOC: Please consider Lucas Cable, Starblaydia's 31 year-old Goalkeeper, as my entry for the World XI Challenge. Lucas has 'Temporal Perceptual Disorder' a.k.a. Chronosensory Acuity, prophetic ability or, simply, 'the crazies'. This has been mentioned before, in these two DBC25 RPs. He's also a pretty good goalie (which helps).

He didn't play games, and the others had learned to not bother asking him. While everyone else was playing as themselves - playing with themselves? - on the latest version of that damned behemoth of an NS World Cup '82 game and mashing the sprint and through-ball buttons on the controller like there would be no tomorrow, Lucas Cable was concentrating on the past. It wasn't 2182 in Lucas' world, like it was outside, but the Tenth Century. Or the Sixteenth, or Eighteenth, or First, or whenever else he happened to be reading about. For all his interest in what had come before, Lucas was never the person to ask what date it was, or even what time it was. He had always seemed to other like he lacked a firm grip on the concept of time. Sometimes he would arrive an hour late, sometimes hours early. He'd get the day of certain events wrong and could spend hours doing nothing before five minutes of frenetic energy. They just said he was a crazy goalkeeper; it wasn't like he had anything to diagnose.

It was only on the football pitch where Lucas' failing helped him. He played every minute like it was the most important thing in the world. From the first to the ninetieth he treated every second exactly the same. There were no lapses in concentration either side of Half Time for Lucas; there were no injury time nerves to worry about. The match was simply the match, and it seemed like the only time he ever really concentrated was when he was standing between the goalposts.

In his mind he was standing there now. The pitch was spread out before him, long and wide. It was night-time, and the floodlights were on, bathing everything around him in a stark white glow, casting four shadows across the pitch. The grass was short and sharp, prickling the underside of his feet. That was odd.

He looked down at his dirty, worn feet. They looked like they hadn't been washed in a month. That wasn't the concerning thing, though, it was the shackles binding his feet that drew his eye. Dull, hard metal around his ankles with a metal chain lying heavily between them. He guessed that the chain wasn't long enough to allow him to take a full stride before the shackles would cut his movement off. The heavy bruising and grazed skin, glistening slightly with recent, drying blood attested to that. He wondered why his feet were bound like an ancient criminal, when it was 2182 and they weren't supposed to do things like that in this day and age. Or was it?

The sound of movement made him look up; he saw row upon row of soldiers in front of him. Wearing black uniforms with obvious body armour and black helmets that covered their faces. Their rifles were across their chests, marching in unison. Explosions went off around them and the sky was lit up by smoke and fireballs but the soldiers kept marching towards him. An endless march in perfect step they strode towards his goal, the goal he protected. What could he do, so small and helpless against an army?

A football shot towards him, towards his goal. Instinctively he leaped to his right to save it. As he pushed off with his feet, the shackles caught him viciously around the ankles and he fell hard, crashing to the ground before he even knew it. He doubled over to rub the pain away from his ankles as another ball flew past him with the sound of man made plastic football technology sliding across the netting at high speed. In order to stand up he had to tale his weight on his hands, swing his feet under him and stand up straight. Two more footballs had flown into the net and the soldiers were still marching towards him. He saw purple banners amid their ranks, waving proudly in the face of fire and death.

Lucas managed to parry the next ball that came his way, deflecting it with a two-handed punch high, high into the air. He caught the next one. With the ball in his hands he yelled at the soldiers, now twenty or so yards away. They were still coming. He yelled at them to stop, he begged and pleaded with them to halt their march before they ran him over, pushed him into the net and enveloped him.

There was only one way.

With all his might, Lucas threw the ball at one of the faceless masked soldiers in the line in front of him. It struck him on the helmet, knocking it to the ground with the crack of hard plastic breaking. The solider hadn't even flinched. Lucas looked at his face, and saw blood streaming from the soldiers mouth, still closed in grim determination.

All the soldiers had blood coming from their mouth, it was everywhere. It flowed down their chins and over their clothes and onto the grass in a never-ending scarlet torrent. It pooled on the grass like puddles of red mud as the soldiers continued to march towards him. There was absolutely nothing Lucas could do to stop them.

He sank to his knees. He put his hands to his face.

He cried.

The Beginning of the End

Postby West Angola » Mon Dec 09, 2013 3:49 pm

Royal Palace, Nambie, Z-Day+4
Daniel Unist, Captain of the Royal Guard, stumbled towards the barricade, his mouth a heaving, gasping maw. Anna, twelfth Monarch of West Angola and the first to bear the title of Queen, raised the automatic pistol he had given her thirty minutes earlier and shot him in the head. As the body of her former Captain crumpled to the ground, Anna lowered the gun and carefully tucked it into her belt. The second zombie rising, only a few short years after the first one, had taken a far greater toll on the country than it had in her father's time. As the telltale signs began, the best and brightest scientists in the country, many of which had helped develop the initial cure, had approached Anna with the news that they, along with several other countries, had weaponized a new version of the cure and were prepared to launch it at neighboring nations to help stave off the apocalypse. For the first few days of the crisis, missiles had rained on Africa as West Angola and other nations traded fire and attempted to hold off the swarming hordes, and it had seemed as though West Angola would survive the second round of the end of the world.

Unfortunately, despite giving as good as they had, the cure had proved largely ineffective, as repeated missile impacts did little against the swelling numbers of the enemy. In a furious battle at the gates, the undead broke through and poured onto the palace grounds, and one by one, communications with other African nations had ceased as they were overrun. By the time Anna and her staff evacuated the command bunker with the army of undead right on their heels, only three lights on the switchboard were still lit. After abandoning the bunker, a contingent of Royal Guards, led by Daniel Unist, had attempted to make a stand in the throne room. Unist had pressed his backup sidearm into Anna's hand, telling her, "I hope you don't need this, but if we fail, save the last one for yourself." Anna had taken the pistol and fled through a secret entrance behind the throne, with many of West Angola's senior government officials following her. The Royal Guards had already lost several of their number to unseen attackers, as the layout of the Palace, narrow, dark, winding corridors designed to confuse attackers, now working against them and causing them to lose many good people, and as such did not last long against the seemingly numberless masses of zombies rushing into the throne room.

The screams of the Guards echoed up and down the passageway, and the knowledge that the men dying in the throne room were giving their lives to buy them time caused Anna and several others to pause. One of the few who didn't stop was Kevin Garret, and the aging Prime Minister had saved all their lives by urging them on, "Come on, keep going! If we stop here their sacrifice becomes meaningless!" Spurred back to action, the group ignored the sounds of shrieking and tearing human flesh behind them and managed to reach the auxiliary command bunker just ahead of the approaching swarm. Anna, Garret, and Paul Arrat slammed the heavy door shut, then braced it while Richard Ferris and Alan West, the Minister of Finance, drug desks up against it to hold it closed. Knowing that their makeshift barring would only hold for so long, the survivors set to work constructing a barricade along the back wall of the spacious room. Thankfully, the bunker had no shortage of large metal desks and filing cabinets, and the group had constructed a decent defensive wall just as the door began to give way. Most of the group had weapons of some kind, having picked them up at various points from fallen Guardsmen or been given them as Anna had, and all present trained their guns on the door as the desks were knocked away by the constant pounding.

Unist's reanimated corpse had been one of the last to come through the door, following a long string of undead Royal Guards, and as Anna shot him she realized that the attack had stopped far too quickly. Several other people voiced similar thoughts, and after waiting twenty minutes to confirm that the way was clear, the group of survivors cautiously made their way back through the passage to the throne room. Finding both deserted, they continued to the front door of the Palace in growing unease. As they wound through the corridors, the signs of battle were obvious, as bloodstains, bullet holes, and the telltale scarring of the activated Queen's Defense peppered the walls and floor. What was missing, however, were the bodies, as not a single corpse was to be found along their entire route. As they neared the entrance to the Palace, Anna became aware of a loud commotion from outside, and edged cautiously up to the doorway and, signaling Garret to cover her, peeked around the frame.

Out in the street was a scene of astonishing happiness. Gone were the bodies that had littered the pavement only an hour before, gone were the screams of panic that had formed the city's aural aroma for the past week, and gone was any sign of undead activity. Everywhere Anna looked she saw joyous reunions, leaving her to wonder aloud, "What in the name of heaven is going on?"

"A miracle."

Anna whirled around, her brain refusing to accept the signals her ears were giving it, "Daniel?" Standing in the foyer of the Palace was a grinning, slightly tousled Daniel Unist, the man she'd heard be ripped apart by zombies and shot between the eyes not long after, "But...but how? You're dead. And a zombie. And dead again." She was aware that she sounded like a babbling idiot, but she was too confused to care.

"I woke up fifteen minutes ago on the floor of the auxiliary bunker along with a dozen of my men and about ten people I remembered attacking us in the throne room. Needless to say, we were all pretty confused, so I led a squad back to the command bunker to see if we could find out anything. There was a signal there from New Dhaka telling us that all the infected East Xibiego had been cured almost spontaneously, and wanting to know if the same thing had happened here."

"Has it?"

"I think so, just look around. I'm cured, my men are cured, they're all cured. I don't know what happened, but I think we've managed to come through the second apocalypse alive."

"Thank God."

"Indeed."

Despite all the bad feelings that had passed between the two since the young queen began her reign, Anna stepped forward and embraced her Captain. As the two stood there, brought closer by shared tragedy, all animosity forgotten, Anna became aware of someone standing just behind Daniel. Opening her eyes and blinking away tears of relief, she saw a young Guardsman shifting around awkwardly a few feet away. Releasing Daniel abruptly, she gestured for him to turn around, and would have chuckled at his embarrassed cough were she not turning bright red herself. Daniel carried out a brief, hushed conversation with the Guard, then turned back to Anna with a grim look on his face. Anna's heart leaped into her mouth, "What's going on, Captain?"

"News from Cabinda. It seems dissident groups there, inflamed by the martyrdom of their leaders after they killed your father, have taken advantage of the confusion to declare secession."

"Shit." That was about all Anna could say. The "martyrs" had not cared at all about Cabindan independence. In fact, they had wanted to kill Sien for allowing West Angola to join the Eurasphere. In the aftermath of the assassination, Kevin Garret and the rest of the architects of "The Plan," Sien's desperate attempt to keep Eura from discovering just how unpopular the Eurasphere was in West Angola, had chosen to blame the assassination on those fighting for Cabindan independence. Unfortunately, while the move had forestalled greater Euran domination, it had inflamed the secessionist movement in the small northern region, and now it seemed that Anna and Garret would have another fight on their hands far too soon after the first one ended.

Shit indeed.

Evraim vs. Blackclyffe

Postby Evraim » Mon Dec 09, 2013 4:28 pm

Nachshon Panzieri stood completely still. He could not tear his gaze away from the flickering coin as it spun effortlessly through the warm air. Then the toss was over, and a silver laurel peeked from the referee's palm like a frightful apparition. All of their games seemed to begin the same, with the opposing team taking the opening kick. Not that Nachshon especially cared, the opening kick wasn't everything, and, besides, they would have the momentum in the second half. However, his teammates were already calling him their lucky charm, and with no shortage of sarcastic mirth. Fighting the urge to groan, Nachshon forced a smile, and gave a playful shrug to demonstrate his indifference. Then, swiveling on his left heel, he strolled determinedly back to his position, almost halfway between the midfield line and penalty area.

As he sauntered past, Nachshon ignored Isidor's mocking smirk. He never takes anything seriously, Panzieri fumed. Tensing in preparation for the kick, Nachshon locked gazes with Yaakov, who stood to his right, a frown evident on his dry lips. "Let's give them hell," Yaakov mouthed, "Nothing gets through." For our sake, he thought, You had better be right. Otherwise, I suspect the crowd will lynch us after this match is concluded. Nachshon checked one last time to make sure everybody was where they should be, and, satisfied, he permitted his eyes to follow the movements of the other team.

Blackclyffe. A team that was allegedly as untested and green as their own. Nachshon wondered at that for what seemed like an eternity. Here he stood, the captain of the club that had won the Emerald Cup, and yet he was still little more than a novice, little more than fodder for the bigger fish. It was a bitter draft to drink. He, who had been playing football since he had learned to walk, was nothing to this world. Doubtlessly, most of his teammates were experiencing similar emotions. A string of losses in the Baptism of Fire tended to have that effect. How ironic that they comprised a team whose nickname was Supernova.

We'll try harder this game, Nachshon promised himself, as the whistled sound. He inserted himself between Blacklyffe's strikers as they moved down the field, blocking potential passes. They're playing more aggressively than I would have predicted, he mused, before Yaakov managed to take the ball off of a man whose jersey indentified him as one C. Falkenwrath. Then, before Nachshon could entertain another thought, the ball was in his possession. The other striker moved to block him, but the experienced midfielder lobbed the ball down the field, where it was knocked down by Taamrat. As soon as this happened, they were all running. The game had begun.

The ball seemed to change possession within the team constantly, each player sending an expert pass to one of his cohorts whenever a member of the opposing team sought to attempt a tackle. Nachshon, Misha, Yaakov, Samél, Idamar, and Taamrat traded the ball constantly, showing more cohesion than in any of their previous games. Occasionally, Eliron or Hişyar, the two defenders, would get a touch on the ball as well. While much of the game proceeded with his team in possession, Nachshon still took the time to learn which of his adversaries to watch, developing a healthy caution around the more threatening players.

R. Santillian could run circles around Isidor and Samél, and one of his shots from outside the penalty area during the first fifteen minutes of the game had almost found the upper ninety. After that, Nachshon ensured that he never had another opportunity to shoot unhindered. R. Silverblade, T. Hall, and C. Falkenwrath also earned his respect. They weren't terribly adept at gaining possession of the ball, but, once they were in possession, it was readily apparent that they knew how to handle it. Nonetheless, Nachshon could see them slowing as the exertion took its toll. Sooner or later, they facade would break, just for a moment, and then the game would turn in their favor.

This happened at the conclusion of the first half. Nachshon, by performing a simple trick, slipped by Falkenwrath and St. John, who was somewhat inauspicious as a midfielder, and sent the ball swirling towards Misha. The talented midfielder, who was known for his crossing ability and who had attempted to gain an assist on goal in this fashion multiple times already, surprised them all by sending a mild ball back to Zamorski, who then passed to Taamrat. Pokorny, Skeats, and Muirchead, Blackclyffe's defenders, were completely unprepared for the famed striker's speed, or the powerful shot that followed, just cruising by the fingers of their keeper, a brutish-looking man by the name of S. Lockwood.

One, zero. The shouts of the fans in the stadium were resounding, blotting out all else. This would be the first goal as a team, and, if Nachshon had any input, it would not be there last. They went into halftime in a cheerful mood, after pulling down their Ethiopian colleague and smothering him with hugs and kisses. Taamrat, to his credit, was generous and humble, laughing and rough-housing with his teammates. Everyone of them was keenly aware of what this goal could mean, and of the enthusiasm permeating the shouts of, "Supernova! Supernova! Supernova!"

The next half followed much like the same, with Supernova in possession most of the time. However, Blackclyffe's players fought with heroic desperation, throwing themselves into the game with reckless abandon. At one point, an opposing player collided with Ariel, resulting in a gut-wrenching sound, the tell-tale sign of a leg injury. As Ariel lay, writhing on the ground, Nachshon took in the hushed silence of the crowd with trepidation. There was something ominous about it, something eerie. How could something so loud suddenly fall into abject quiet? He was their hero mere seconds ago, and now he is an object of pity. That was truly unsettling, most of all, because it could happen to anyone. Even him.

Ariel soon hobbled off the field with assistance from the trainers, and was replaced by Abraham Benacerraf, a face who was unfamiliar to Nachshon, despite his prominence with Netanya FC, one of the leading teams in the domestic league. The game continued with few variations, with the notable exception of two yellow cards given to Blackclyffe and a botched free kick awarded to Evraim. During one of the fouls, T. Maoilseachlainn, a formidable defender for the opposing team, performed an illegal tackle on Indamar, just outside the box. Later on, after another failed tackle, this one attempted by Pokorny, Taamrat barely missed a free kick, sending the ball over the top of the bar.

It would have been a victory, had Santillian not been there to salvage the game for the opposing side. With five minutes remaining on the clock, he sprinted by Hişyar to receive a lob from Silverblade. Both Eliron and Abraham were too far out to come to the aid of Sermend, who still managed to knock the first and second shots down. Santillian aimed at the upper ninety, only to be denied by Sermend. Then, he shot towards the midsection of the goal, somewhat to the right. Sermend struck the ball with his fist, sending it hurling outside the goal box. However, Hall was there to receive it. As the defenders rushed to correct their mistake, Hall coolly passed it to Santillian, who finally succeeded in tying up the match.

Supernova would have one final attempt on goal. With one and a half minutes remaining, Misha broke away and crossed the ball to Indamar, who used his thigh to guide the ball towards the net. Lockwood dove, fumbled the ball a little, and just managed to grasp it, as Indamar sprang forward to finish the game. A few seconds later, the whistle sounded, and cheers broke out. It was a draw. Indeed, it was, Nachshon thought hopefully, but it's a start.

At Rhizome Arena Pheir Droimpol continues his recovery to be ready for WC 67
part two for Pheir Droimpo, part one 1here

Pheir Droimpol walks into the training facility at Rhizome Arena where Dr. Jill Hansen is waiting for him

"Hello Pheir how are you feeling today?"
"I feel great Doc what’s the plan for today?"
"Well after the success of the last few session I think we’ll run through a few physical fitness tests along with some skills tests to see if your ball feel has come back."
Droimpol sounding not so excited: "Sounds good, is Bayts running the tests then?"
"Nope you get me today."

Droimpol lets this announcement get to his head as he perks right up and sounds a bit over excited with his response after Dr. Hansen says it will be just the two of them

"Great!"
"Don’t get to excited, I’m just as tough as he is on these tests you know.
"um yes I know, that's not what I meant" Droimpol states sheepishly
"Okay then, first up is a mile run, then we’ll do some plyometrics, and finish with ball work. I’m hoping that after these tests I’ll have a good idea of your return to the lineup as coach Schmidt has been asking me all week when you’ll be ready."

Dr. Hansen leads Pheir to the training area outside of Rhizome Arena where there are 3 full sized football pitches, a running track, a custom build plyometrics course (not your typical set-up of just boxes and hurdles), and a couple other training areas for specialized activities.

"During tryouts you ran a 4:50, so we're looking for something in the 5 to 6 minute range before I'll say you pass this test" Dr. Hansen looks up from her clip board to catch Phier glancing at her backside as they continue walking to the track. "and please pay attention"
"Huh, oh right. That should be easy, I've felt very good the last week and have been doing some road work on my own to try and push my self back into shape."
"Are you ready then?"
"Sure am, you just going to say go or something?"
"I'll give you a countdown." Dr. Hansen holds up three fingers, putting one down with each count. "3, 2, 1, GO!"

Pheir sprints out around the first curve and is feeling very well and coasts down the backstretch, he picks it up again through the second curve then coasts again as he comes down the home stretch.

Dr. Hansen yells out the time as Pheir goes by "60, 61, 62, that looks good keep it up"

Pheir keeps his speed through lap two and is now coming around by Dr. Hansen on lap 3

"Time is looking good just maintain this pace and you should make it well under our goal, 3:45, 46, 47"

Pheir tries to go faster on this last lap but can't seem to muster any more out of his legs

"Almost there, come on just a bit more. 4:58, 59, 5 minutes. Great work Pheir continue a slow jog for at least one lap and meet me at the plyo course"

Phier takes two cool down laps and then heads into the plyometrics area where Dr. Jill Hansen is waiting for him

"That was very good, that road work you've done has paid off. Just 10 seconds slower than your tryout time."
"It felt good, I tried to kick it in for the final lap but just couldn't go any faster."
"Well next we'll see how your jumping strength is coming. We'll do two circuits of the course, untimed just so we can see how you handle the different zones."
"Shall I start?"
"Are you rested enough after the run and cool down?"
"Yup, I feel good"
"By all means then go ahead"

Pheir sets out on the plyo course. The course has four zones which he is very familiar with as the team regularly does them as part of their weekly training sessions. Zone 1: Series of varying size boxes, small, big, big, small, medium, big, small. Zone 2: Set of bounding lines - straight, cross over, straight, single leg, single leg cross over. Zone 3: Hurdle area - small set of hurdles (10 total) for double leg hops and single leg hops, stair riser (small 8 stairs total), and medium/large hurdles (10 total alternating medium then large). Zone 4: Standing jump zone with three exercises - standing knees to chest x10 - squat stars (crouch down and then jump high into a start position) x10, single leg knee slaps (jump on one leg bringing knee to hip level and slapping against a hand) x10.

"looking good, your boxes are smooth. Make sure to land on your toes when you come down."

"Reach on the bounding sets now, get out as well as vertical. Good, good, much better."
"Hows the leg feeling with these?"Dr. Hansen asks sounding concerned
somewhat out of breath Droimpol reply's "No worries, it feels good. Almost normal"
"Okay good, keep it up"

"Get your knees up on the hurdles, there that's good"

"Almost done last zone, you still feeling well?"
"Yep, great" Droimpol blurts out even more out of breath

"Jumps look good, just bring your knees up a bit more and fully extend on the stars."

Pheir finishes up and heads back to were Dr. Hansen is standing

breathing very heavy Droimpol says "Well did I pass"
"I think so, I have to finish comparing these results from your tryout results. We also need to get in a bit of ball work before you leave."
"We staying out here for the ball work, or heading inside?"
"I think we can stay out for it, it's a nice day and coach Schmidt said no one is to be on the main pitch this week"
"Fair enough, shall we"
"After you this time if you don't mind"
"Okay" Droimpol says with his head down

Pheir and Dr. Hansen make their way over to one of the practice fields. Dr. Hansen has a number of drills set up for Pheir to test his movement on the ball, his shooting, passing, and control. They are joined by Teur Smuemun, one of the Hops starting defensive mids.

“Okay, the first set we have here is a dribbling drill. Simply weave your way through the upright poles at pace. Once you reach the free standing code at the end, turn and pass to Teur.”
“I’ll then pass you the ball back so you can come back down the same pole set”
“Yes, Teur. We’ll do that 5 times, so you’ll weave the poles a total of 10 times.”
“Got it, can I start?”
“Yes, you ready Teur.”
“Ready here”

Pheir makes it through the first drill and waits instructions from Dr. Hansen.

“Okay, that was good. Any pain or anything else?”
“Nope, I feel good”
“Looks like your getting back to full speed Pheir” Teur states excitedly
“Next we have some shooting to do. Teur will make the passes to you and your aim is to score, color=green]Pheir[/color] shows some of his immaturity as he chuckles a bit you have to be sure to hit the target zones though.”

The goal face has a netting across it which has holes at the upper and lower 90s, then on hole a little larger than the ball along the cross bar right in the center.

“Sounds good, is Teur going to be moving or stationary?”
“He will be moving, and once your in position at the cone there” Dr. Hansen points to a cone located at about 25 yards directly out from the goal

Pheir jogs out to the cone, turns and receives a direct ball from Teur. He traps one time and hits on frame but hits the left post. After this first miss Pheir does not miss again making the remaining 19 shots. He alternates from left side to right side, upper 90 to lower 90 and then the center opening. Once all shots have been taken he jogs back to the touch line where Dr. Hansen and Teur Smuemun are standing.

“That felt good”
“I’d say, you only missed the first one I gave you” Teur says while patting Pheir on the back.
“Lets head back in to the training room so I can stretch you out a little, don’t want you to tighten up after all we've done. Teur thank you for joining us.”
“My pleasure Doc”
“Pheir you can follow me to the training room.”
“Any ice bath or anything other than stretching today?”
“No, we’ll get you in for that tomorrow. We’ll be done after a nice stretch.”

Pheir and Dr. Hansen walk back into the training facility and make their way over to one of the trainer tables. Pheir lies on his back while Dr. Hansen stretches his legs a bit.

“You looked good today, any pain after?”
“Thank you, and no, no pain.”
“Are you doing these stretches after your workouts you are doing on your own?”
“Yep”
“Everything alright with you, you sound a little off.”
“I’m good.” Pheir has a long pause “Do you think I’m ready, I feel ready and I thought today went well.”
“I believe so, your range of motion is good and all the test today are very comparable with the results you had at tryouts. I’ll be sure to pass all of this on to coach Schmidt, which he should be happy that your ready.”
“Great” Pheir gets a big grin on his face “ah, um, I was wondering if maybe you’d like to catch a bite to eat sometime?”
blushing a bit Dr. Hansen responds “There is a team dinner coming up before the end of the week.”
“No, that’s not what I meant. I mean you and I, ah, like a date.”
“I knew what you meant, I’m very flattered and”
Pheir interrupts “But, there’s a but isn't there?”
“and I’d love to.”
with an even bigger grin “Wonderful, Wednesday work for you? I know the perfect place.”
“Yes, Wednesday should be fine.” Dr. Hansen says blushing again “You had better be going, I think coach Schmidt wanted to see you again before you left. I’m sending him your data now as well.”
“Thank you Doc, see you Wednesday”
“See you then, Pheir”

Pheir has a little pep in his step as he heads out of the training facility to find coach Schmidt, he turns and waives one last time before exiting. Dr. Hansen smiles and waves back.

The NexxusDrako Age

World Cup 67 Pots and Rankings Announced

With all the hype surrounding our dream run in IBC 13, you'd be forgiven for forgetting we had a football team that bombed out of the group stage of the Baptism of Fire 54 and is now awaiting the draw for the World Cup 67. We are in Pot 8, with 0.57 KPB points and a world ranking of 312th.

Our analyst, Clive Mackintyre has said we should expect to finish around the bottom, quoting that we are not among the great football teams and we don't have as much luck as our basketball team, and we need to get better over the course of a few World Cups before even thinking of mid table.

After our embarrassment at the Baptism of Fire, Kody Dell, NDFA President and manager, has adjusted the style to a balanced teamwork focused style of play (OOC: Style Mod 0) due to our concession of many goals and not enough scored.

We'll feature our group in more detail in tomorrow's edition.

With the group draw only hours away players start to arrive at Rhizome Arena. In attendance along with the players are: the entire coaching staff, training staff, members of the HopNation Association Football Alliance, and select coaches and head office personnel from teams in the HCL.

The players and coaches gather in the team room, as they greet one another and find all of their freshly washed and new gear waiting for them in the open room lockers, with home jerseys hanging name and number facing out for them to easily find. This is nothing new to them, the same set up was provided prior to setting out for Farfadillis and the Licentian Isles in their first quest of their World Cup journey in the Baptism of Fire 54.

Coach Schmidt speaks over the teams rumbling dialog's “Lads settle in please I’d like to talk a bit before we head down to the field and watch the main screen for draw today.”

The players take positions on the stools in front of each locker, some pulling them into the center of the room to be seen and hear coach Schmidt a bit better as he tends to lower his tone once everyone is situated and quite.

“Alright, just a few things to note from our BOF campaign.” Schmidt raises his hand and puts up one finger “First I’d like to congratulate all of you on a great group stage, finishing 2-0-1 was a great start for us. But then we exited in not so well of a fashion losing 1-3 to a good Kitsunia-Deesse side.

raising a second finger ”Second, congratulations to Pech Schytaing for being our point leader with three goals and two assists, so nice work there.”

raising a third finger “Third, I’d like to announce to all of you that Pheir Droimpol and Oeny Subanos have both been cleared by the medical staff. I expect them both to be at form come our first match, which by the way is only a mere 5 days away.”

Schmidt waits for the team to settle back down a bit after that bit of news before continuing.

“I’m very proud of you thus far, but we have a lot of work to do. The competition was great at the BOF, but we’re headed into unknown territory for us here. We will no doubtfully be facing some of the best teams in the world. With us being in Pot 7, I feel we have nowhere to go but up. Don’t get me wrong, those teams in Pots 8 and 9 are some good squads and perhaps just need one chance to prove they have something to show, we simply can’t allow that to happen.”

Schmidt pauses to take a drink from his Bayern FC water bottle (the club team he has the pleasure of leading) before continuing again.

“You’re the best group of players I’ve had the pleasure of leading. I feel you all deserve much better, from me, from each other, from our fans, and from the world. Lets improve on our limited successes and get our rank into the 100s and out of the high 200s as we currently sit at 270th. I know your better than this, do you know your better than this?”

“YES” the team blurts out, which echoed throughout the locker room area

“Keep this in mind while still being humble.” Coach Schmidt pauses for another drink “Always think you are the better team or player, Know your better and I know your better, Then go out and PROVE your better. Now bring it in before we go out and watch the big screen.”

The players jump up from their seats and gather quickly around Coach Schmidt

Coach Schmidt says in a low voice “Are you ready?”

“YEAH” blasts the team

Coach Schmidt says in a low voice “Ready to prove yourselves?”

“YEAH” the team even louder this time

Coach Schmidt says in a low voice “Ready to kick a little aaasssssss”

as loud as they could muster “YEAH”

“Now lets go out and see who we draw, shall we?”

The team walks out onto the main field to the cheers of those in attendance. Though not too many as fans did not get the send off invite this time, it was still a good bit of commotion. They intermingled in the chairs, couches, and bags that had been brought from the club heads in attendance. They sat and waited….

Another week went past , The Maliks got a dinner invitation By the Armours. Raiyaan Malik had not met Shooby Armours yet and he was going to very soon.

Another day went bye, Raiyaan could not wait for his meeting. However Lucas and Shooby's father, Johno Jr were not sure if they were actually going to talk as a family, but instead they are going to a cave of Mountain of Paradisia, which lies a massive secret that was untouched since it was formed by their ancestors, Bobby Malik and Shooby's Grandfather, Johno Sr. Something that they never told. It underground place was discovered by the both of them but no one knew about it. They were there for a while to find things that could relate to the events.

The secret stayed there untouched for many years, unvisited for many years, spoken about for many years, only thought about in nightmares and dreams of death. The laughter of evil come closer the storm continued the clouds circulating around the mountains like it was controlling them.

Lucas Malik was just standing in the bar staring out to the mountain and he knew what would happen if he went back there again. It was going to happen once again. Highlights from the World Cup match began to show on the Small Television.

OOC: This commercial was inspired by a RL commercial. This is being posted to set up a new direction for the Free Republics and is definitely not my entire MD1 RP.

Commercial, now airing on Republican television

*Sound of a Trumpet*

Voiceover, as music plays: The Call to Serve, it has no sound, yet I have heard it. In the whispered re-telling of honorable sacrifices by those who have served before me. It has no form, but I have seen it clearly in the eyes of men more driven and more courageous than most. The Call has no weight, but I have held it, in my hands. I will carry it close to my heart until my Federation is safe and the anguish of those less fortunate has been soothed. Until everybody is Free and injustice is eradicated everywhere. The Call to Serve is invisible, yet always present. For those who choose to answer the Call for their country, their fellow men and for themselves, it is the most powerful force in the multiverse.

World Cup 67: Our Group

LILYDALE, NEXXUSDRAKO: Our group has been drawn in group 8 with Darmen, 19th Century Beards, Swyftlandre, Jeru FC, Karditan, Julain, Antoletia and Vaugania, and the funniest thing is, we'll be playing them in that order.

According to Clyde Mackintyre, Darmen and Jeru willl be the most likely group qualifiers, Antoletia could upset Jeru though, while Swyftlandre are the dark horses.

On our chances, Clyde said "We have no hope of qualifying, just play like normal, and get a few wins and draws and hope to gain a few ranking points for the next World Cup." to which fans laughed off and said "What do ranking points have to do with skill?" to which Clyde stormed out of the press conference.

In other news, Clyde Mackintyre has resigned from his post as sports analyst. He will be replaced by Kent Joseph, someone who actually takes form and luck into account and not just rankings.

Gregoryisgodistan drawn into Group 9

The Foot Slaves of Gregoryisgodistan were drawn into Group 9 for the World Cup today, along with The Archregimancy, Buyan, Alianza Albos, Hutt River, Sargossa, Ossidiacqua, Greater Watford and Olastor. Coach Coach Slave CAUD87147 (OOC: not a typo, his name is Coach Slave CAUD87147) said he felt that the team could compete well in the group, telling the press

"We have those sinning monks who don't recognize Lord Almighty Gregory as the true god. He will ensure they pay for all their misdeeds by losing to us in both games. That should be fun seeing them be incapacitated by Lord Almighty Gregory. I'm sure he will have great fun too. Then we have a few other random teams like Hutt River. Who names a country after a river? Must be a pretty small country. I'm sure they don't have many good players. And Buyan? Well I'm sellin' their chances, they don't have a prayer. Alianza Albos? How about Alianza All Boos, because that's what their fans will be doing when we beat them on their home pitch. Sargossa? Try Sarnossa, because they have no chance against us! Ossidiacqua? Try Lossidiacqua, because that's what they're going to suffer when they face us. Greater Watford? As if! We are the greater team and everyone knows it. And finally, there's Olastor, which actually does have an appropriate name, since they'll be finishing last in the group. We are going to the World Cup, mark my words!"

Coach Slave CAUD87147's comedy routine/pep talk seemed to boost the morale of the team, as everyone was very excited for the first match of qualifying, as the Foot Slaves travel to Alianza Albos on Sunday. Rumor has it Lord Almighty Gregory will personally attend to encourage the team to win. It should be a glorious opening victory for the Foot Slaves.

Team captain Soccer Jester FunnyMan294 said, "I think we will go to the World Cup. Equestrian States or Cassadaigua, here we come. There will be a glorious celebration when we qualify. We will prevail."

To avoid a disaster like last time when Gregoryisgodistan received the wrong schedule from a sports information clerk, Sports Clerk DHBSBBZAH will be kept locked in a prison cell until Sunday, at which point it will be verified that the Foot Slaves are in the right place, at which point Sports Clerk DHBSBBZAH will be released. His family is chained up inside the home - they will be released as well if Sports Clerk DHBSBBZAH did his job properly. However, if Sports Clerk DHBSBBZAH, like several of his predecessors in multiple sports, messed up and sent the Foot Slaves on the plane to the wrong country, he will be executed for his sins along with his family. He should hope he is right, and pray to Lord Almighty Gregory every waking moment that he did not make a mistake. If he did, he will pay dearly.

For now, GO FOOT SLAVES!

Tsuchimikado Mikoto

"Group draw! Catch the group draw for the World Cup live on - "

Why does everyone have to prattle on about the damned draw?

I sighed, flipped the TV switch off, and buried my face in my pillow. To think that it was already 11 in the evening, on the eve of the day of judgement.

I had been tossing and turning fit to outperform a force-nine gale for the past hour now, yet I still couldn't entice sleep to come to me. Heaven knows I desperately needed some shut-eye - Kurumi's training sessions were pure hell to begin with, but now that she's stepped up the intensity, all I wanted to do after an hour on the pitch was collapse face-first on the muddy pitch and gasp, trying to draw in enough air to alleviate the raging pain that flared through my lungs.

I remember sputtering breathlessly to Kurumi, "I thought those robots last cycle was the definition of your insanity, but I'll be damned if you don't come up with ever more of your tricks to torture us."

My parting riposte was, "This is a bloody football training camp, not Survival!, for God's sake!"

Yet by an unfortunate turn of events, I found myself mobbed by a veritable pack of rabid football fans, just as I had managed to escape the chaperones' watchful eye and slip off to a nearby convenience store to stock up on a six-pack of beer for the team, who'd just had their entire cache of liquor confiscated by Kurumi during one of her thorough spot-checks. I'll never know how she managed to flush out the bottle of vodka some enterprising youngster managed to smuggle into one of the toilets on the third floor. But back to the topic at hand. Evading one person was one thing, but fleeing a bunch of football fans baying for your autograph was another thing altogether.

In the end, I ended up having to scrawl my autograph over almost every square inch of their possessions using a Sharpie marker. One particularly devilish specimen even had the gumption to ask me to autograph his ... well, let's not talk about that painful recollection. Instead of grabbing the beer off the rack and making my way back to the training camp with all haste, I was dragged along to a seedy pub for 'a pint or two', as the fans termed it. Painfully conscious of the fact that I risked having to answer to an irate Kurumi when I finally got back, I pulled out my entire repertoire of devious tricks - ranging from flicking a fake cockroach into some poor guy's frosted mug while he was engaging in hearty banter with the barmaid, to pinching a smartphone off an unsuspecting man who had the misfortune of standing next to me and hurling it into the mass of humanity occupying the cramped dance floor.

Well, neither worked. The guy damn near choked on his cockroach, and he did come close to having a fit when he spat it out and saw it for what it was. By all the kami, he was spouting curse words like there was no tomorrow and threatening to sue the entire establishment - I hadn't expected my diversion to provide such entertainment. But my distraction was my undoing, for by the time I regained my composure, the man's fury had been allayed by the promise of two pints of best bitter on the house by the proprietor, who was profusely apologising while making those little fancy bows that you only see in 19th century dramas.

My little subterfuge with the smartphone failed too. I won't go into detail, but suffice to say that all I got for my trouble was a mass of seething human bodies, mugs being hurled left, right and centre, as well as a faceful of the pub's beer, which left me spluttering like the village idiot.

It was well after ten before I managed to politely decline any further hearty offers by burly men to down some beer with them, wade past the tide of humanity clogging up the place, and literally swim my way to the front door - not forgetting my six-pack, of course. After all, that was the entire reason I'd ventured out of the camp in the first place.

A thirty minute trek later, I clambered over the fencing of the camp and ran like mad for the second floor of the towering building, which housed the players' dormitories. I didn't dare to take any chances with security - Kurumi was unpredictable at the best of times - I most certainly didn't want to end up in a booby trap, dangling from the top of the ceiling. Imagine the ignominy! It'd be worse than my experience of having to wear the dunce's cap for two consecutive weeks in kindergarten, that's for sure.

Still, despite the exhaustion that gripped my body and mind in a vice-like hold, I found my thoughts wandering to the group draw for the World Cup.

The World Cup. To me, it represented the ultimate goal. From a young age, I always found myself inexorably attracted to the World Cup - with its mystical allure, the excitement of seeing top national teams battle it out for the glory of lifting the trophy, the fanfare that inevitably followed the competition. Even to an untutored eye such as mine, the sheer wonder at witnessing top-level football being played out on the biggest stage imaginable was - is - thrilling beyond belief.

The unrivalled media coverage given to footballing tournaments on national television made me aware of the sport's magnitude and the tight hold it had over the people's hearts; the pent-up nervous energy that filled me up whenever I caught a glimpse of football being played, be it on television, my dad's computer, or even at the local park prepared me for the stress of being a footballer; the exhilaration that I experienced as I got my first taste of football in kindergarten. All that was merely a precursor to what would be my career, my future, my life.

We, the Nova - 51st in the multiverse. Pot 3, along with the likes of traditional footballing superpowers like Astograth, Barunia and Jeruselem, who we'd pipped to the sole qualifying spot in our group last cycle. And I was to be the one to lead them out when we played. It was an honour of the highest order, to be sure - yet I was still worried, worried as to our fate in the qualifiers. Kurumi had told us in no uncertain terms that anything less than a second successive qualification would be regarded as an unmitigated disaster both within the FA and the nation, and I was the one entrusted with the immense responsibility of leading the team by example.

You have to cut me some slack here, of course I'm agonising over the draw! The responsibility of ensuring qualification partly lay on my shoulders, and I was beginning to feel the burden. What if we drew Ko-oren and Paradystopia? Our World Cup hopes would dissipate faster than the morning mist in Kirishima, that's for sure.

The group draw.

At any rate, there was nothing I could do to influence the proceedings of the draw. Even in the depths of my mind, I had long ago accepted that fact. Whether we were to play against a top team or an unranked newbie team who can't field eleven pros didn't matter any more. To hell with it - I didn't care whether we drew the likes of Polar Islandstates, Eura, or even Audioslavia - for I had recourse to one of Kurumi's maxims - play your hearts out, don't give a damn about the opposition, and win. Well, technically we had to care about our opponents, though ... if we were to come up with a strategy against them.

I flipped my pillow over and pulled the covers up to my chin, contemplating what would transpire at the group draw, which was a mere three hours away.

I wonder what's going to happen over at the draw venue?

I couldn't help but visualise the moment when the ball bearing Mizuyuki's colours was drawn out.

I closed my eyes and tried my utmost to get to sleep. From Saten's room next door emanated the sound of cheering and a general ruckus, for they were planning to evade Kurumi's lights-out-at-eleven ruling and stay up to watch the draw live. None of that for me, though - I was dog-tired, couldn't muster enough energy to join them in their no holds barred merriment.

The group draw, two hours, fifty-eight minutes, and thirty-four seconds away.

After all, there's nothing I can do right now. Nothing for it except to get some sleep.

No point in worrying my head over that now.

Note - another submission for the world XI.

Bucky Freezus walked into the room for his press conference about the upcoming qualifications. There were less than ten people sitting in the folding chairs and at least two were asleep.

"Thank yall so much for showing up today. Ya know, I've always prided myself on the relationship I have with media and fans. Ever since my first job as a coach, coaching my little daughter's tee ball team, I made sure to keep the good relations with the press. The high school level, where I was a proven winner as a girl's basketball coach I might add, I as simply the star of the local papers. Ya know they once did a writeup on me in my third year there. We were coming off an emotional win to make it to the state playoffs and in the story they did a whole paragraph saying I was the coach. So I know a bit about the relationships needed to be developed with the guys that cover sports. So thank you all for being here.

The Estope Soccer Association is lucky to have Brain Monte as chairman. I've never such genius come from someone in his position. He has had remarkable vision and is constantly on the cutting edge. It is very important to stay one step ahead of the other competition and with Monte in charge I feel very comfortable. I mean he hired me right so he can't be that bad. Ha, ha, ha. Come on that was funny guys. Where's your sense of humor?

But seriously though, I am just so very grateful to be here. My climb to the top of this sport that I believe yall call soccer, I'll have to check my notes again... yeah it is soccer. As I was saying, my climb is not the normal path that most coaches take to get here. I understand that. I'm a realist. I know that my path is just such a better way to go. Other coaches may know a bit about soccer but I know a little about multiple different sports so my outside vision will clearly help us. I can promise you this right now. We will have a decisive advantage over all the other teams because of me. So sure I come from a different background but don't we all.

Once again, as I said, I'm a realist. Our program is in a spot that none of us are happy with. I get that. I'm super excited about getting started and getting us some wins. I'm certainly looking forward to that, although I don't know if all the players are. They're not happy with the way the last year went but personally I don't see much in them that will change much. But don't yall worry, I've been scouting some real athletes that hopefully next year will come out and play for us. And while they players are garbage, at least the team has me until we get some good players into the system.

And I think I will open the floor to questions about the upcoming qualification. Umm no questions? Well then I will continue to talk.

I saw the group the other day, uh could someone get me a list of all the teams please. Wait never mind I found it. I used it to spit my gum into earlier but it's still readable. Let's see. First where's my reading glasses. Ah there they are. Now let's see..

Northern Sunrise Islands. They're in our region I believe. I'm not the best in geography so don't quote me on that. Well they have a higher rank than us so they'll probably be favored over us, which is fine with me 'cause I actually prefer the underdog role. It allows us to sneak up on them. But let me tell you one thing. The only thing I hate more than losing is northerners. Now I don't actually know if they are in the north but they have north in their name so that bad enough in my book. Let me tell you right now that the team will be motivated to play those damn yankees and we'll show them that the south will rise again! So that's my two cents on them.

Next is... The Sylvanaes Queendom? Who are they? How can they possibly ranked above us! That right there folks shows the liberal bias of whoever is ranking these teams. A team of elves, seriously? First off... you know what never mind, I'm not even going to waste my breath talking about them. Yall can just chalk them up as two easy wins. Those biased rankings can't fool me, I'm much too smart for that.

Now, let's see, Tynewear. Can't say I've heard of them either. All I can say is that we should easily win based on rankings alone.

Hmm Polar Islandstates. That name sounds familiar but once again my geography isn't the greatest. What does my notes say? Ah yep. They're pretty good. Number one in the world, but remember folks that biased ranking system means nothing. Once again there is a yankee team in our group so we'll have to be ready to beat up on them real good. From what I've heard, they are way overrated. I mean they have lost the past two World Cups and so I wouldn't put it past them to blow it yet again. I'm not here to predict wins but I would be shocked if we don't beat them at least once.

You know what, I'm tired of talking now. We will also face Chiata, Rybarre, The Weegies, and Kitsuneshima. As for what I will say about them, just recall what I said about Tynewear and basically every other team. I've just been repeating myself up here.

To close I just want to say that I am the real deal and I can't wait for us to go out and shock the world. Thank you."

He walked off the stage to the applause of only a single person, Monte Brian. The rest of the country either stopped caring about two years ago or realized how hopeless the team was this year and what a bafoon Freezus was.

Princess Katy for Naked News and her sister Princess Melody, Jeruselem coach

Katy: This is Princess Katy for Naked News Jeruselem, the World Cup 67 draw has been done and I'm with the Jeruselem coach, Princess Melody who happens to be my older sister.
Melody: Hey sis, nice shoes
Katy: Well, it's the only thing I'm wearing
Melody: They look expensive
Katy: They were
Melody: Yes, we're talking group draw right?

Katy: Yes, Jeruselem got drawn in group 1. Our main rivals in this group are known to us
Melody: Yes, 6th seed Osarius, 31st seed Legalese. And the rest
Katy: Welsh Cowboy, Shadowbourne, Melbergia, Old Rhelia, Kidlantis and unranked Hicana
Melody: I think we've played Welsh Cowboy sometime before in the past
Katy: The rest, no idea
Melody: I like our group, no real nasties

Katy: People expect Osarius to make the cup from here
Melody: Yes but we aren't going make it easy for them
Katy: Jeru FC in group 8, ranked only 3 placed above us
Melody: Well, that's what happens when you don't qualify for the cup
Katy: A much harder group for Jeru FC
Melody: 13th seed Darmen top the rankings but Antoletia 42nd and Swyftlandre 66th are threats to Jeru FC as well

Katy: NexxusDrako, 19th Century Beards, Karditan, Julain, Vaugania round out group 8
Melody: Wasn't Karditan a great team in the past?
Katy: Yes, I've heard of that team before
Melody: No idea about the rest
Katy: Admittedly, not the worst group to be in
Melody: True that

Katy: Qazox are ranked 60th, pretty bad from their heady days
Melody: Surely they can improve from here
Katy: Group 11 features Qazox, Audioslavia and Paradystopia
Melody: I don't think Qazox can take top spot in group 11 at all
Katy: They are 3rd best ranked team in the group
Melody: Paradystopia are pretty good too

Katy: What's our chances of qualifying
Melody: Probably via a playoff, I can't see us being top dog in group 1
Katy: What about the boys
Melody: Antoletia are going cause trouble for our boys, hope they can get in via a playoff
Katy: Not exactly oozing confidence
Melody: I'm just being realistic sis

Katy: I guess you can't get ahead of yourself
Melody: Given our mid-rank, it's going to be hard work
Katy: Hard work never hurt anyone
Melody: Too much is going kill you
Katy: I suppose that's true
Melody: It's all uphill so far

The Whining Footballer
I bet we lose

Ceni is off to its first World Cup- the World Cup 67. Looking through the news reports, diary entries, and interviews, I feel so overwhelmed by all of the media out there. Go Nation A! Yay Nation B! Yippee Nation C! Uh huh, oh yeah! Well, I'm not going to tout our country. I admit it: we suck. I've admitted it before, and I'll continue to admit it until we actually win more than two games. We competed in the Baptism of Fire and made it to the Round of 16, but that was just luck. And we have less KBP points than the nation we defeated to go to the Ro16! That's so unfair. I mean, we actually shape it up, and we have less points than the the nations we defeated! Geez. I'm not expecting much from our team in this tournament. Even though we made a change to our pattern (from a 3-4-3-1 to a 4-2-4-1), practiced more aggressively, and changed out some members of our team, we're going to suck pretty badly at this tournament. Our rank right now? 329. There's only one nation in our group that has a worse ranking. I feel that we're just rooted out for disaster in this tournament. But don't mark my word on it.

6 am the next day (1 week before qualifying begins)

"So, Lewis, let's see what your ProSoc folks have done." The QFA representative said, as he and Lewis walked towards the dome. The pair sat in a pair of seats in the bleachers, with the representative tapping away on his tablet. The 25 selected ran though their paces, with laser precision for the next hour.

"Lewis, I think you ProSoc guys will be getting the nod. I've never seen a team run so smoothly. Here's a copy of the qualification schedule. And remember, this better not backfire." The representative said, shaking Lewis' hand.

"I'm a bit surprised he didn't ask more questions about the team." Helen said, after sending the team to the shed.

"Same here, but I think the practice quelled any he might have had. Now I hope that these synthetic humans you two have come up with will be enough." Lewis said.

Tasrailia Blog 1
Group 14:
Eastfield Lodge (40)
The Fair Republic (257)
Dutzenderland (312)
Sangti (79)
Kinzar (126)
New Sideburn (48)
Eura (4)
New Rhodes (324)
Tasralia (111)

The draw has been starting with the likes hopefully going in our favor. Equatorial Guinea and us do have some things in common, for example we are ranked the same rank as us which is 111th. I was only hoping that we would have a fair draw. Ok here we go, time for my pot of the draw.
Tasrailia gets announced
Looking at the group so far, it looked like it would be a fair group with Eastfield Lodge, Sangti, Eura and New Sideburn in the draw. But only one have posted their roster which could make things interesting. It looked like they were good teams to face.
Rest of teams are announced
Comparing the teams that got drawn left in there, I felt a sense of relieve with the draw that I had until the schedule came out
MD 1: @ The Fair Republic (257)
MD 2: Dutzenderland (312) (Launey Arena)
MD 3: @ Sangti (79)
MD 4: Kinzar (126) (Launey Arena)
MD 5: @ New Sideburn (48)
MD 6: Eura (4) (Tasrailia Arena)]
MD 7: @ New Rhodes (324)
MD 8: BYE
MD 9: Eastfield Lodge (40) (Tasrailia Arena)
MID-GROUP BREAK
MD 10: The Fair Republic (257) (Launey Arena)
MD 11: @ Dutzenderland (312)
MD 12: Sangti (79) (Tasrailia Arena)]
MD 13: @ Kinzar (126)
MD 14: New Sideburn (48) (Tasrailia Arena)]
MD 15: @ Eura (4)
MD 16: New Rhodes (324) (Launey Arena)
MD 17: BYE
MD 18: @ Eastfield Lodge (40)

The main worry in that schedule being between MD6-MD14, where four of the five host games are against the top 4 nations in this group with the only exception being The Fair Republic who is ranked 257th. The media was predicting a 4th at most, but I am hoping to prove them wrong, completely wrong

Queen Isabella visiting the Jeru FC training grounds of her Jeru FC football team with Jeru FC coach André Vaillancourt-Bosquet

Isabella: So, are the boys ready for action.
Andre: I wouldn't say ready
Isabella: Surely they are
Andre: I only got the boys back from the army recently
Isabella: You mean they haven't actually been football training at all
Andre: Apparently they were needed for other duties for the last four years

Isabella: That's funny, that wasn't the case last time round
Andre: I know
Isabella: So, are they fit ... for football?
Andre: Apparently they've been shovelling sand for 4 years since the last cup
Isabella: That sounds like a load of fun
Andre: Put it this way, they are sick of sand

Isabella: Surely, they must be stronger and tougher for the experience
Andre: Unfortunately, they are still immature idiots
Isabella: This wouldn't happen if a Dallas was in charge
Andre: I'm a foreigner, they don't really listen to my complaints
Isabella: I guess you aren't a Princess
Andre: Nope, I'm certainly not

Isabella: They are looking fitter and stronger
Andre: Yes but they haven't developed intellectually
Isabella: Must be all that sand in their brain
Andre: They haven't played a game since the last cup of harmony so I have my work cut out for me
Isabella: So what you been doing in the meantime
Andre: Helping out the local teams, and I did some work with Jeruselem

Isabella: How does your group look?
Andre: It's going be tough, we have good teams to beat and lots of ... unknown ones
Isabella: I'm sure you'll work it out
Andre: I'll do my best ...
Isabella: Jeruselem got a nice group
Andre: Yes, we always seem to run into those fire ants

Isabella: I swear they stalk Jeruselem teams
Andre: Nevermind, I have lots to do
Isabella: Say, what's all this digging sand all about?
Andre: Removal of hidden explosive devices
Isabella: Digging out mines from a desert?
Andre: Better them than me

Joric Ruskin
Joric Ruskin had attended the group draw in Cassadaigua, but he'd found the whole thing considerable dull. With Barunia's pot drawn and the team secured in group 18, Joric found himself losing interest. As the names and numbers of the group draw rolled on, Joric closed his eyes, and slumped in his wheelchair. Slowly, he drifted off to sleep, and began to dream.

In his dream, he saw a field of green grass. Children were playing it, singing an old nursery rhyme as they batted a giant balloon between them. As he drew closer, he realised the children were actually people he recognised. His sister Ana and his school friend Charlie were there, laughing. On the other side of the field he saw Stephen Wiggens and Yohan Marris. Stephen was saying something, but he couldn't hear him over Ana's laughter. He turned around to tell her to be quiet, but she'd gone. Charlie had vanished too, and the ballon landed on the green grass where they had stood. It burst open, and a viscous Doberman stood there, snarling at him. It began to chase Joric, and he was running along with Wiggens and Marris, running away from the dog. The green grass ended, and then they where running down a crowded mall, but no-one was in their way. A soccer ball came bouncing along from somewhere, and the three men began to kick it around as they ran away from the dog. They saw a buidling, and still passing the ball they ran through the door, but there was a dense forest on the other side. The dog didn't chase them through, but Joric kept running. Then Wiggens kicked the ball to him, a high floating cross, but as it neared Joric the ball exploded, showering him in metal fragments. Then the air was filled with the sounds of gunfire, and he could feel the heat of explosions, and metal raining down on him. Joric crouched on the ground in the foetal position, whimpering as the battle raged around him. The noise got louder and louder, and he was getting more terrified with every second. When he felt he couldn't handle it any longer, he woke up.

Joric woke up with a jerk, and the noise continued. For a moment he thought the building was under attack, then he realised that it was applause. The group draw was over, and the assembled representatives were thanking their hosts. Joric shook his head to wake himself up, and joined them.

Kitty Smith
Kitty Smith sat at her computer, staring at the list for the group draw. The paper was demanding an article, and of course it wouldnlt write itself. Kitty was stuck though. She'd never gotten the hang of these things, when it was just a case of reiterating stuff the public could find out in five seconds on the internet. An "expert opinion" was what the editor of the Porthaven Times called it, but now matter how many ways you spun it, Kitty was not an expert. An expert journalist maybe, but not a sportsperson. Oh, she'd dabbled with playing sport, and of course she had an interest, but nothing nearing expertise.

What she needed was an angle. Approaching this in a way the public weren't expecting. Give them something to think about. Sighing, she picked up the list again.

Group 18
Barunia (43)
Valladares (11)
Åsløtten-Bëðerbørg så Cesky (91)
Thatius (63)
Republika Vilska (282)
The Serbian Empire (333)
Milchama (39)
Beaverriver (121)
The United Squiggles (UR)

"Ok," she said to herself, "Valladares. To be honest, they're world eleven but I know nothing about them. Ok, so more research. Great. Next, Åsløtten - oh those guys. Ok, new team, Baptism of Fire 53. Have to find out how they did last time." Her fingers hammered the keyboard, and the words. "Check results for BoF, WC66" appeared next to Åsløtten-Bëðerbørg så Cesky. Kitty continued to talk out loud to herself, a habit she had of doing whenever she was working on an article. "They've already got a team roster in. Let's have a look." She glanced down the list, and one name caught her eye. Zlatan Dvakošek. "The Hawks?" Kitty asked herself, and a moment later she grinned. Like she'd thought, Dvakošek did play for the Marion Hawks in the Barunian Football League. It was angle. She could interview his teammates, especially Lucio David. He was the only Hawks player on Barunia's national side, and the defender would be matched up against Dvakošek when the two teams met. Kitty typed "Dvakosek - Marion Hawks - Jackpot!", and went on down the list.

Thatius and Republika Vilska. Ok, they were just names. She'd have to do some research. The Serbian Empire were next. "Three-hundred and thirty-three? I would have thought it would be higher then that." Kitty said out loud, looking at the ranking. "They were in our Baptism of Fire. I guess they've not been doing as well as we have." She typed a few notes next to the Serbian Empire's name, then looked at Milchama. "Well, they're the closest to us in terms of ranking. Perennial Cup of Harmony entrants to, although they've won it a few times. The 29th Cup of Harmony? That was a long time ago." Next to Milchama she wrote "Stalwart of the game - Close to Barunia, more ways then one."

Who was next? Beaveriver. "Didn't we play these guys before? I'll have to look up the results. Was it world cup 66? or 65? It wasn't 64, not going to forget that group in a hurry. I think it was 65. I'll have to check." Kitty sighed. More sifting through pages upon pages of results, just looking for one relevant piece of information. If she hadn't left it so late, she might have had other people to help her. But she'd have to do it all herself now. It was going to be another late night. She wasn't even going to bother saying anything about the United Squiggles. Well, they were unranked, so what was there to say? She doubted even the most dedicated researcher would find out anything terribly noteworthy about a team that had never played in a major tournament before. Kitty sighed, and turned on the kettle. She needed coffee, and lot's of it. She had work to do.

OOC: A second World XI Challenge RP centered around Lucas Cable, Starblaydia's 31 year-old Goalkeeper. Lucas has 'Temporal Perceptual Disorder' a.k.a. Chronosensory Acuity, prophetic ability or, simply, 'the crazies'. This has been mentioned before, in these two DBC25 RPs. He's also a pretty good goalie (which helps).

Part One: Dream Soldiers

All the veterans had told him, but he'd not really believed, that the World Cup Draw would be absolutely crazy. Drinking, shouting, throwing chairs and brandishing guns, he'd heard it all. He hadn't believed a word of it. After all, this was a place where the great and the good of the footballing world got together in their fancy clothes to make a publicity event out of a non-event. There would surely be cameras everywhere, and no-one wanted a PR disaster for their Association just before the World Cup Qualifiers began.

This was one time, however, when Lucas hadn't been able to see what was coming. There was something about this room, with this group of people that he just couldn't quite get his head around. Lucas had lived with these visions, dreams and premonitions since he was a teenager. He didn't have some sort of Extra-Sensory Perception that he could focus on times and places, he just had a lot of weird dreams and got déjà vu a lot. If he were in a comic book, Lucas thought, he'd make a pretty rubbish superhero. On the football pitch, however, realising that the striker was about to put the shot to his left rather than to his right was really quite useful.

Along the way, Lucas had learned to trust this feeling when it arose. The usual reaction time of thinking 'huh? Have I done this before?' was a familiar feeling, one he almost missed when it was absent. Maybe not having any feelings like that in this place, among the assembled masses of international players, managers, agents, Association chiefs and even self-declared deities, meant that nothing important was going to happen. Probably.

He sat in his seat, in a section allocated for Starblaydi representatives. He looked over and saw his agent talking to a pony. It said something about the modern state of international relations that he didn't find that odd in the slightest. He knew it wasn't on his behalf - he didn't have enough hooves to keep goal in the Equestrian States - but probably for Lorenzo Jinalii. Seemingly everyone wanted to get a hold of Starblaydia's defensive midfield lynchpin.

Someone else who everyone wanted to get a hold of, as per usual, was Simeone Di Bradini. This time he was officially representing the SFA delegation and probably doing something for The Holy Empire on the side, as per usual. A murmur went through the room as he entered; he wasn't often seen nowadays. Lucas had never actually seen him, in fact, and he turned his head to look.

It was like a firework going off inside his skull.

He sat and simply stared at this being, moving as if in slow motion with a golden halo playing around his head - a head which of course was topped by impossibly cool hair - as he walked around shaking hands with friends new and old. Where his gaze fell was illuminated by all that was good in the world, where he walked the air was clean and cool, and when he touched hands with people they too became glowing beings of power, however briefly.

Lucas blinked. He could still see it.

"Quit yer staring, laddie!" came the whisper in his ear from his team captain, the Dwarf Brazadar Khurnos.

"But," Lucas began, "he's..."

"Simeone Di Bradini, aye. And he's comin' this way."

Lucas continued to stare. Did everyone else see the most famous man in the world in this manner, or was it just him? Lucas' thoughts were lost in questions of perceptions of one's own reality that usually only come along after a particularly thought-provoking book, discussion, or drinking session. He didn't noticed that Simeone had walked all the way over, was looking at him, and had offered his hand.

Somehow, Lucas snapped out of his trance long enough to realise this, unsure of quite how long had passed and how polite Simeone was being by still offering his hand. Lucas took it, and suddenly he was enveloped in an incandescent light and the feeling of warmth spreading throughout his entire body.

He blinked, and saw Simeone Di Bradini standing before him, wearing his sharp suit and impossibly cool hair. There was no glow, no supernatural power, and they were still shaking hands. Lucas looked down and saw their hands. He looked slightly to the left and saw his arm extended and shaking hands with someone else. Two right arms. His eyes looked down his second arm, up the arm and to the face of the person shaking it. It was Simeone Di Bradini, smiling at him.

This time he was younger, certainly, with longer hair held in place by a band. He was wearing a pure white Starblaydia kit, with the number 10 emblazoned proudly on the chest in that particular brand of Starblaydi purple that he knew so well. Something glinted in his peripheral vision and he turned his head left again, finding himself shaking hands with a gallant knight in steel plate armour. A sword was at his waist and, above a purple tabard he saw Simeone Di Bradini's face, caked in mud and dried blood, smiling at him.

Left and left and left he looked and each time he saw his right arm extended to clasp that of a different Simeone Di Bradini. There were more in Starblaydi shirts and training kits, one or two in the red and gold of the Holy Empire. Several suits, of differing styles and cuts, as well as more warriors. Whether thick, segmented leather armour or the black of special forces, or even the barely-dressed one in a purple toga, Lucas looked left and left and left and kept seeing the same eyes looking kindly back at him.

Finally there was one version of Simeone Di Bradini not shaking his hand.

"Nice to see you, Lucas," Simeone said. This Simeone was dressed fairly averagely, with a black T-shirt - or it might have been a dark purple - and trousers made for rugged work. "I'm glad you could make it."

This Simeone was standing beside a rack of long golden items. He took one from what must have been a dozen or so, all neatly lined up, and came over to present it to Lucas. Lucas looked down and saw it was a musical instrument, a horn or trumpet of some kind. Simeone offered it to Lucas, who reached out for it.

"Nice to see you, Lucas, I'm a big fan." Simeone Di Bradini said. This was the one from the World Cup Draw, wearing his suit and impossibly cool hair, smiling straight at him. The aura had gone, the eyes were no longer burning with ethereal fire, and Lucas was back to reality.

"You too, sir." Lucas spluttered out.

"Call me Simeone." Simeone said. Suddenly he was gone, shaking the next hand, giving a polite word and moving to his seat.

Lucas barely heard the draw itself. One hundred and seventy-one names were read out to applause, gasps, smiles and even a few boos. Whatever their group was, his team-mates and the observers seemed fairly pleased with it, but slightly apprehensive at whoever the top seed was. Something about Paladins, he thought, but wasn't sure if he was just remembering the Simeone who looked like a Knight.

He had to figure this out, and quick, otherwise it would be playing on his mind all through the Qualifiers. And the last thing he needed was to not be concentrating. He was trying to be the best goalie in the world, after all.

Greater Watford were drawn into Group 9, a group that, for a team like Greater Watford, will not be easy to escape. As a new nation, Greater Watford has little history in international football, and will look to test their skills against the top teams in the group, The Archregimancy and Sargossa. Qualification will be a tall order, but there are some beatable sides, such as fellow newbies and reigning Baptism of Fire winners Buyan, Alianza Albos and Olastor, the latter 2 with a lower rank than Greater Watford. To use an old cliché, it looks like Greater Watford will need to "take one match at a time" to gain any hope of WC or CoH qualification. Our fixtures are:
Code: Select all
MD1   Hutt River   Away
MD2   Sargossa   Home
MD3   Ossidiacqua   Away
MD4   BYE

(OOC: So I plan to make Formation my centerpiece RP as it will explain what is going on with Felix politically and how one idiot from the FFR causes political crisis in Felix. Also, you might want to look at this to get a understanding of Felixian politics. Anywho, the other RP, Sporting Volker: A Club's Journey In The UICA is more of a minor RP and will probably will last till mid-qual. By then I will probably know what other minor RP arc thingy I will be doing for the rest of the World Cup Qual. And lastly, The National report thing will cover the matches and whatnot and it will also be included with my centerpiece RP at times.)

Its Not Just A Football Term Folks

"I am hopeful that the U-15s can overcome the Trolls, but if not, I believe that the Army should launch a full-scale invasion of Felix, upon the conclusion of this U-15 World Cup. If the Consuls do not give permission, I would prefer that a general go "rogue" and invade Felix anyway."

- Rule Theriault, Head Coach of the Free Republics National Team

For a President that is running for re-election for the highest office in Felix this message from a man that wants to Felix to be invaded sent a chilling feeling to the spine of Luis Garcia. For years the Felixians have had no army since its founding in 1875 and in fact, the last army to be in Felix was in 1874 where the final American and British forces withdrew as Felix prepared its own independence. The politicians at the time were divided on whether or not to form a military. For the most part the Felixian people refused to form one as they believed the military could be abused by the state and be used to control her people. So the politicians at the time listened to their new constituents and the Act of 1876 was the first bill to pass the Felixian senate and it banned the forming of the military, but, the bill did allow the National Police Force to be formed. The National Police Force was primarily a self defense mechanism for crime and invasions from weak and foolish nations. But it would stand no chance against armies from America or Germany or any other Multiversal power.

Fast forward today's predicament and to Garcia staring at that 135 year old document. That act is a source of pride to a good amount of Felixians, especially the old ones. This piece of paper was now bring brought up in debates as the Nationalist Party and United Party started to pressure his Liberal Party into bucking into to the position of military creation. But he was also being told by Liberal Party elite that he has to maintain the military free position. And just to add to the worries of the 45 year old president was the fact that the United Party was in a coalition government with his party, the Liberal Party. This whole debate unraveled a blitzkrieg effect on his office as all of his political rivals mobilized and soon spat out anti-Liberal ads on the air. Soon, Garcia's popularity with the people dipped to an all time low of 29%. On the right, the United Party and Nationalist Party targeted him for not being decisive in this crisis. While his own allies in the Liberal Party and their rivals, the Conservative Party attacked him for even thinking about military formation. On the left the Social Democratic Party, like the United Party and Nationalist Party, attacked him for his slow reactions to Rule's threats. The Socialists and Greens on the other hand targeted him like the Liberal Party and Conservative Party. He was hopelessly outnumbered. How can he make a choice? He would always lose somehow.

Garcia sighed heavily and looked at his options and they weren't that great. Does he side with his party and lose the Prosperity Coalition and possibly the election itself? Or does he side with the other parties and get kicked out of the Liberal Party and possibly lose the election? He had no idea what to do. Each option was terrible for him and he knew it.

Three Weeks Later...

World Cup Qualifying Draw
Concord Heights, Cassadaigua
Concord Heights Convention Center

"And that concludes the World Cup qualifiers draw!", the words from the cheery and excited Cassadaiguan FA echoed in the mind of Luis Garcia, the President of Felix. He was in attendance in the draw representing Felix as leaders ranging from military leaders to football association heads all gathered in the Concord Heights Convention Center to see who will face who for the qualifiers. He looked at Group 17. "The Group of Death", if you will and he sighed. Out of all the teams in the multiverse he had to face Felix had to face the bane of his existence (and the bane of all Felixians' existence) the Free Republics. That is the same team that Rule Theriault is in charge of. Rule is also the same man that said that comment that made his last year of his first term as President a living hell. He quickly left and said goodbye to no one. The Presidential Service quickly followed the now sick President. The poor man couldn't catch a break and he cringed at the thought of the morning news reports talking about what group we have and who we are facing.

The Journey Of The Felixian Club Of The Century In The 48th Globe Cup

Ah Sporting Volker, one of the oldest clubs in Felix and yet has only risen to glory right now. Just in time for Felix to join the UICA and surprise everyone as Sporting Volker evolves into the symbol of Felixian club football as the executives of the UICA tourney named Sporting Volker Club of the Century. Which, to be honest, was a deserving title. I mean, Sporting Volker was Felix's most successful team in the UICA tournament with one Champions’ Cup appearance (they got eliminated in the first preliminary round) and two CC Globe Cup appearances (their best performance was the third preliminary round in GC 46). Compare that to Altomare... Or Santa Maria City. And now Felix's most UICA successful team leaves the interversal club stage as they got eliminated in the 48th Globe Cup group stage. Yes, that's right. Group stage and while they only got 6 points, just for them to be in the group stage was a major accomplishment for the Felixian team. This story will highlight the journey Felix's Sporting Volker made through the tournament starting from the latter end of the FCL season to Copa Félix and finally to the 48th UICA Globe Cup itself. Let's start off with the last six matchdays of the FCL.

Santa Maria F.C - Sporting Volker
Estadio Rosa, Santa Maria, Felix

Heading into the final five matchdays of the season Sporting Volker was looking good. They were in first but only by one point to rival Santa Maria City and two points away from Altomare and Universidad de Santander and were heading to one of the weaker teams of the league, Santa Maria F.C. It was at their home and their record at Estadio Rosa was above average at best and the team was in disarray after their best player was injured so the expectations were for Sporting Volker to beat out the weak team by a good margin. It didn't happen. In a surprising finish the two teams failed to score one goal against each other and the match ended goalless. One point they didn't want as Santa Maria City beat Hampshire United, 4-1. They went down second place.

Sporting Volker - Bridgeport
Stadia Volker, Volker, Felix

The last win of the season for Sporting Volker came here as they beat mid table team 1-0 with a goal by Luca Esser in the final minutes of the first half with a assist from Eugenio Mote. The goal gave Sporting Volker the lead and they didn't look back. The win gave Sporting Volker a crucial three points in title race. And thanks to the Santa Maria City 2-3 loss to Port York, Sporting Volker was once again in the driver's seat for the championship, all they needed to do was win.

Hampshire United - Sporting Volker
Memorial Field, Hampshire, Felix

But they didn't. Sporting Volker travelled to Hampshire just to have a one to one draw against the reviving, rising, Hampshire United team. The whole match was mainly Sporting Volker controlled but the Hampshire United defense held on against the onslaught that was the Sporting Volker attack. Volker eventually scored a goal in the beginning of the first half as Luca Esser went on a series of furious shots that eventually went into the net. 1-0. But just before the referee gave out the fulltime whistle Kurou Yuuta scored a amazing goal from a free kick. 1-1 full time and the Sporting Volker team was in a state of surprise.

Sporting Volker - Port York
Stadia Volker, Volker, Felix

Sporting Volker needed a win as Sporting Volker's lead in the FCL was hanging on to a thread with Santa Maria City crushing Napoli, 2-6 their latest match and Altomare winning theirs. Unfortunately for Sporting Volker they drew against Port York, 2-2. The home team had a two goal lead over the away side before halftime with goals by Esser and Brett Mallon but Port York tied up the match in the second half and tied up the whole thing as Sporting Volker just couldn't protect it's two goal lead over the surprise team of last year's FCL. Sporting Volker was now behind Altomare and was one point shy of being over the team of Volker.

Santa Maria City - Sporting Volker
Estadio Nacional, Santa Maria, Felix

Sporting Volker now had the chance to take over the title race with a win against Santa Maria City on their home ground, which is a little bit difficult considering Santa Maria City's record at home was as solid as ever. Santa Maria City fired the first shots of the game with a goal by Blair Heredia in the 9th minute from a fantastic corner kick taken by Gabriel Jenaro. But 4 minutes later Sporting Volker responded with a goal by Luca Esser. The match then went from end to end as each team tried to score a goal against each other but goalkeepers from both sides blocked every shot fired. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, something Sporting Volker didn't need.

Sporting Volker - Sieberg
Stadia Volker, Volker, Felix

Sporting Volker headed to it's final match and they were in second place. A Santa Maria City loss plus a Sporting Volker win would give the team it's 3rd title in four years, something unheard of for a long time. Sporting Volker started off great with a 1 minute goal against the away side with a killer header into the net by Luca Esser after a series of great passes around the pitch in quick succession. Sporting Volker maintained it's control over hated rivals Sieberg till a series of mistakes opened up the Volker defense and caused a goal to be made by Noé Fierro in the 78th minute where the cheeky attempt at goal went in. 1-1 and the match ended that way. Sporting Volker's draw ended the title hopes as they finished second.

A Review
Luca Esser's Perspective

It is disappointing when your team is in the driver's seat for the championship and you draw all your matches in frustrating ways. Like when your team scores first but a small mistake, a kink in the armour if you will, opens up a last minute goal to tie match and take two points away that the team really needed. I was really hoping to go to the Champions Cup but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Oh well. At least we made it to the Globe Cup and the brand new Copa Félix, a cup I think, that should have been made earlier. I love to play more football. And I noticed something, the CEdC now only allows two teams to get in. I guess Copa Félix was made just for that. I dunno. I guess going back to original subject, I believe that this season of the FCL was a successful one despite the second place finish. We did better than expected and we overcame those Altomare folk.

World Cup 66 Qualifiers: Preview
By: Steven Smith

And so we were drawn to Group 17, one of the toughest qualifying group draws we have ever been drawn too. Unfortunately we have been drawn to the same group as that dreadful team, named the Free Republics. In fact, the President was in attendance during the draw and as soon as the draw event ended he stormed out of the room. The poor man must've been reminded about that political crisis Rule caused by mentioning a invasion of Felix (and I swear, if this buffoon mentions this in his half assed reports...). Luis Garcia is now in a political firestorm with only months away till the election. Seriously, poor guy.

Going back to football, this preview edition of the 66th World Cup Qualifiers and this guide will give as much information on each team as we from The National can possibly give out to you, the reader. Also featuring in this issue is that we will announce that the FFA has allowed scouts to be sent out all over the multiverse, visiting each Group 17 team, with their permission of course. Now, lets give a proper preview to each team. Starting off with KungYo,

Group 17

KungYo (358)
Not much is known about this country other than the fact it participated in the latest edition of the Baptism of Fire and were sent out of the group stage in quick fashion. The KungYo Football Association has yet to announce their roster but as soon as they do, we will be the first to update. Due to the rank of the team we suspect the Felixian team will have no problem dispatching that team as we will get two victories. A automatic 6 points, if you will. The will finish second to last in Group 17.

Preiva (UR)
Preiva is another country that we know nothing about and the team hasn't competed in the BoF and therefore is unranked. Due to that it is more than likely that Felix will get both wins and another 6 points something Felix will need later in the qualifying stage as the race for the top will be a tight one as goals will decide who will move on to the World Cup final. They on the other hand will finish dead last in the group.

The Sarian (178)
The Sarian finished second BoF and for that we send our deepest condolences (seriously, we do) and we wished they won the whole tournament. They were also part Although, to be honest, Buyan looked fantastic in the whole thing. As for this team, I see some bright spots in this talented group of lads with Ross Horn leading the way. I would like to see him play for Felixian teams in the future. And as for his skill, he could be a huge threat to Felix winning. I see Felix beating The Sarian at home and drawing against them away. Despite the fact, I really like this team, I expect them to finish third to last.

Pasarga (15)

Next up is 15th ranked Pasarga and is the highest ranked team in the whole group and is one of the favourites to win this group. Tobias Möller is a player sounds good and plays well in his games. Look for him to be a crucial player in the Pasargaran (apologies if I got the nationality wrong) qualifying run. Natálie Buchtová is a solid defender that I see could cause problems to forwards due to her skill. In a head to head match up we will win the home match but lose the away one. I also predict them to finish third, only because of Mizuyuki and West Angola and well, us. Sorry.

Felix (95)

The team that had a failed last World Cup qualifiers returns again with a renewed vigor as Felix wants to re-enter the stage and show itself to be the rising power it should be. We have new players in and a new coach, hopefully the surprising finish made by Felix in the Campionato Esportiva can give us a edge and make us finish high on the table. Perhaps, if we're lucky, we can qualify for our first World Cup and we can visit the wonderful, Equestrian States and Cassadaiuga. I expect a second to fourth place finish, depending on how well we do against the big boys.

Mizuyuki (51)

While the Mizuyuki national team has done well without now current head coach of Felix, Ishikawa Haruka and they managed to qualify in impressive fashion which is why this team is one of the favourites of this Group is the team with the biggest chance to make it out of the group other than Pasarga. This team also participated in the U-15 World Cup hosted by Felix and we got a small taste (no pun intended) on how could this nation will be at football. As for the match itself, I predict a win at home and a draw or loss at their home. I predict a 2nd place finish to third place finish and if luck is indeed a lady tonight, they will finish first.

West Angola (29)

West Angola, a nation that not many Felixians know about. They have qualified to the World Cup before but we aren't sure how many times. What we do know though is that West Angola made it to the Cup of Harmony multiple times and the team and it's fan base is waiting on a qualification. West Angola has recently allowed a female to play on their team, a national team first. We expect Mary White to be determined and possibly dangerous to Felix as she wants to prove her stuff to the mainly male dominant Western Angolan national team board. We expect a win or draw against them at home but a loss or a draw away.

Free Republics (69)

Don't get me started about the team of the rapist. I refuse to give this team an credit whatsoever in anything they do. They aren't even a good team for Christ's sakes and how they're ranked 69 is beyond me. I expect a win on both the home game and the away game as Kyle Bolton will probably not play in their away game as he is a little, afraid, pig that knows that Felixian justice awaits him here. I recently heard that Luis Garcia is in talks with the Federation government to extradite him to Felix where he will go to trial. Lets hope that works. The will finish 5th in this group, without a doubt.

Vettrera (140)

Ah Vettera, the nation that nearly pulled off the surprise in the U-15 World Cup and almost caught up to the Free Republics in goal difference to jump ahead of them in the group stage. Hopefully the senior team can do the same against the Free Republics as this team, despite their rank, looks to be a solid team that can contend. I also hope they release a roster soon as the first matchday draws closer and closer. I am expecting a 6th place finish.

We now move on to the final bit of news in this copy of The National. As you may very well know, the Equestrian States and Cassadaigua will be doing this, "WORLD XI CHALLENGE" where the best of the best in the multiverse jockey to be in this select few of lists. Because of that, the FFA has recently announced that they will be sending Sebastian Krister of Bjarnarey Flotilla to represent Felix and hopefully be part of that talented 11 crew. Will he make it? We will find out in few months time.

Oh, and before we leave you we would like to announce the friendly results we have gotten. In the first round of friendlies Felix has partaken we have only won one match and lost the other three. Here is the list right here,

Felix 4–3 Super-Llamaland

In this match Felix beat down the rival Llamaland team in a high scoring affair with Sebastian Krister scoring two goals and assisting in one and Geraldo Pánfilo scored the other two. Felix looked solid in that match and looked in sync and prepared for the World Cup qualifier, which was a good sign for the national team.

Super-Llamaland 3–2 Felix

The coach made some changes on defense and offense and you could tell as the result was less than what was wanted. Eutimio Salazar scored one goal and assisted in the other while Ji Iseul Kwan scored the goal made by Felix. Unlike the last match, Felix looked disorganized and weak as the Llamaland offense steamrolled over the changed defense.

German American States 1–0 Felix

Ishikawa Haruka reverted to the old starters she used for the first match against Llamaland but she only saw a giant L as her team just barely lost against that team in the final minutes of the game with a powerful screamer that went from outside the box and into the net. Amazing. Now Felix was 1-2 in their international friendlies Pre-World Cup. Not good.

Felix 3-4 Mizuyuki

Felix's second to last match in it's pre qualifier series played in the Estadio Nacional rendered another loss for Felix as they lost in a close battle against Ishikawa Haruka's former team and current opponent (oddly enough) Mizuyuki. Sebastian Krister was the star of the match for Felix as he made a hat trick against the good Mizuyuki team but it was another late goal that doomed the Felixian team that was, at first, looking fine. Interestingly enough, we face them in our first match in the qualifiers.

Felix -Ko-oren

This match hasn't happened yet but it will soon enough, or something. Looking forward to this match as this team will prove to be a nice challenge just before we head off to the qualifiers. The game is at home and I am sure it is a game we can manage and hopefully not fuck up. And of course, win.

Sangti - Felix / Felix - Sangti

A two game series will finish off our pre qualifier friendlies as Felix hopes to face off against the rivals of Esportiva, Sangti. While we won't face them at all this edition of the qualifiers we are sure to face them at least once somewhere for rivalry's sake. Like the Ko-oren game, I expect a win from Felix at home and if we are lucky, maybe a win at their house. Just like how we beat them on their home turf in the 11th Handball World Cup.

That is all we have for preview edition of The National. Be sure to travel to Stadio Altomare and support our team as we face 56th ranked, Mizuyuki. Good luck to all your teams but especially to Felix's, ciao! And until next time, this has been Steven Smith reporting in the sunny city of Altomare.

BREAKING!

Wippenbeck Suspended
GAFF Nabs Star Striker for "Drug Abuse"

MILWAUKEESBURG- The word is out, and that word is SUSPENDED.

GAFF has taken Hans Wippenbeck off the World Cup 67 qualifying squad for GAFF-sanctioned drug abuse rehabilitation. GAFF said in a statement released yesterday, "We have reviewed Hans Wippenbeck's actions pertaining to the German American Football Federation Drug Policy and found evidence that Wippenbeck has failed to comply. He will receive three months of suspension as well as a sanctioned rehabilitation session in the same amount of time. Best of wishes to Herr Wippenbeck and the rest of the squad."

This comes in the wake of a video that surfaced showing Wippenbeck smoking Krotzer in his Swillburg home. The Swillburg Polezei is still investigating how the videos were acquired, as Krotzer is legal.

Rookie 19 year old Konrad Meisenhal steps in for Wippenbeck at the striker position. He still plays on a youth club, but is expected to sign with Die Kirchestrasse XI next year when he is eligible. It should be interesting to see how Meisenhal performs in the friendlies.

Super-Llamaland Tigers National Men's Soccer Squad Locker Room, 10:19 AM
Vargas, West Wilhelmsen Province, Super-Llamaland

The players filed in for a last difficult day of training and strategic planning. Then, they would hop on a plane to their first destination, a team they were visiting. Or they would wait home at Kerraway Park and its famous soccer pitch that the Tigers had adopted as their national stadium.

A schedule had been tacked to a large cork bulletin board, which featured anything from advertisements for Team Pizza Party--7:30 PM on Saturday--Alejandro Mujica's house--bring $5 to reminders like National Founder's Day is this Tuesday to random post-it notes with short messages like Get ready for WC67! and Meet @ Trainer's Room 3:00 tomorrow to discuss leg injuries.

This schedule read:

10:30: YOU HAVE TO BE FREAKING READY BY 10:30

10:31: Defenders work w/Coach Hayes on TACKLING FINE TUNING, Midfielders work w/Coach Day on EVEN MORE PASSING THAN YOU NEED, Strikers shoot on goalies, Coach Russell will supervise

12:00: Lunch Break

1:00: More practice! Defenders w/Coach Russell for some CLEARING PRACTICE, Midfielders do PASSING DRILLS with Mr. Ferguson, Strikers w/Coach Hayes for PASSING BACK, Goalies doing GETTING THE FREAKING BALL with Coach Day

2:30: Tactical

4:30: Trainer's Room

5:00: Get out of here!

Sure, it was a hard day. But with salaries ranging from $65,000 per year (rookies) to $2.6 million per year (Jared Mullin, a dominant backup midfielder) plus whatever their clubs paid them to go ($129,000 to $5.5M), the payoff seemed to merit the difficulties of the job.

The midfielders were a highly competitive lot. There was Chris May, who had racked up the points in WC 65 before a heart condition weakened him during WC 66. But May had still retained his passive-until-he-shoots-past-six-defenders-in-twenty-seconds style of play along with a nice anchoring of the left-side defense when needed. Then there was center mid Chris Chapman, who anchored all the defense May couldn't and ensured the defenders an easier time. Chapman could shoot as well and had racked up points during his World Cup tenure. And of course there was Xavier Platona, dominant on the right wing and with thirteen points in the ten games of WC 66. Platona's aggressiveness served him well from the corner and he was one of the most prolific players on the team. There was Jared Mullin, whose brilliance at creating chances out of nothing was unrivaled by almost nobody's but equaled by his terrifying quickness and agility. And of course, there was Trevor Duncan, the linchpin and captain of the team, who created almost every opportunity and lead the team in points every four years.

Xavier Platona went through the daily routine of practice and walked into tactical with the other midfielders. Nobody could have guessed what happened next.

2:30: Everybody filed in.

Platona sent a next to Chris Chapman.
Hey, do you think Ferguson will play 4-5-1 or 3-5-2?

Chapman replied while Ferguson, who sucked with technology, fumbled and set up the projector.

Gosh. Hope not. Our defense is pretty patchy.

Not with you
, Platona replied from his brand-new Ouranos IX smartphone. The Ouranos IX was different from the Ouranos VIII in that it was compatible with the Oceanside App Exchange, which folded seamlessly into its Ouranos Application Store, and had a glittery blue case built into the sleek metal of the Ouranos IX. The phone had simplified its original four-button approach and adapted to merely two buttons, a sleek on/off button on the phone's back and an "Omni" button in order to save space to make the plastic screen bigger. The modified approaches were helping Ouranos destroy other domestic phone companies in Super-Llamaland.

Haha thnx
, Chapman replied.

2:35 PM

Mullin walked in just as Ferguson finished fumbling and set up the presentation.

"This," Ferguson said, "is our formation from today on out." The screen showed a straightforward picture of a 4-4-2 formation.

There was silence.

"Uh, manager," Chris Chapman said while tentatively raising his hand, "that's exactly what our current formation is."

"Oh, ah heh heh, hehehehe," cackled Ferguson, which was unusual, "that's what you think." He pushed a button. Nothing happened. He pushed the same button, and another screen popped up. It read:

"FERGUSONIC FORMATION helps PUSH FORWARD current offense and midfield, causing 'waves' of agile and skilled players to crash down upon the opponents. TO HECK WITH THE DEFENSE! They won't be needed!"

"Erm, but we need more defense," said Platona.

"Why?"

"So...they don't score," said Platona.

"Very well. Chapman will play as a defensive midfielder." Chapman and Platona both were shocked.

"Erm..." said Platona.

"Do you want to?"

"...no."

"Then that's all. Chapman, go work on defense. You'll need it."

The undercurrent of resentment began to thaw.

World Cup Group Stages Announced!
Image
World Cup Officials watch on as another takes out a random pick from Pot 4.

The NS World Cup 67 draw took place yesterday, and it can truly be said that Julain have a very, very tough group ahead of them.

While the first pick of the group,Group 8, does not look so bad, with NexxusDrakko being knocked out of the lastest Baptism Of Fire Group Stage, things get significantly tougher.

19th Century Beards may have a funny name and a ranking in the 200s,but don't be fooled if they look weak, having been runners up of Campionato Esportiva II.Next comes Karditan, who are not really known for footballing prowess, but have some impressive achievements in their arsenal, like being Runners-Up in their Baptism of Fire, making the Quarterfinals of the Cup of Harmony 54,and actually qualifying four World Cups back. They'll be one to watch.

Vaugania are up next, and have a very impressive KPB ranking, though they don't have too many footballing honours to shout about. Swyftlandre have got a runner up position in their Baptism of Fire, and have quite a high ranking to impress quite a few people. Antoletia and Jeru FC are practically hugging each other high in the rankings, and will give our Terriers a tough time. But the toughest of all.....is Darmen. We'll leave it at that.
