I've been usually praying on my own, not recently given the holidays.

But it is quite and I pray eastward, towards Jerusalem and if it is morning or afternoon usually with an open window.

I always pray alone for my relationship with God and The King of Kings is personal.

Plus I don't wish to bother anybody as I tell Him what is on my mind and heart. Sometimes I find the answers...other times I don't.

But at lest I find peace in the music and calm of me praying.

I've felt similar, but in recent months I've been seeing the benefits of communal prayer on my person and my prayer.

I do feel lonely at times lately....seen my friends being with others and finding love with them is...quite painful sometimes since I broke up with my last girlfriend a month ago.

Maybe this holiday I can find a way to help with that pain by being with others and celebrating, praying, and such.

Christians, do you use a Rosary? A Prayer Rope?

I use both. It brings great peace to my mind to acknowledge both Christ and the Theotokos throughout my day.

....What are those? I have never heard of those before.

A Prayer Rope is a loop of either wool or silk (although mine is wooden bound by silk) laced together with a series of knots tied in a specific fashion in order to present a cross to the viewer from any direction. The knots vary in number - 33, 50, 100, 150, etc. Interwoven between the knots are four large beads in cruciform fashion, small orbs, wooden tabs, or other decorative artifacts sometimes fashioned with a small replication of a particular icon. Also interwoven into the rope is a single cross sometimes finished with a tassel.

Each knot is counted by the Christian according to the number of times the "Jesus Prayer" is recited. We are encouraged to pray without ceasing by scripture and the Prayer Rope better facilitates this encouragement. The tassel on the rope is used to wipe away tears when the grace of God visits you.

The Rosaryis the Catholic variation of the Prayer Rope. Typically, Rosarys are made of glass, metal, and/or wooden beads, and bound by an elastic band. Interspersed are certain pewter pendents with images of certain saints, the cross, Jesus, or Mother Mary. Upon counting the beads, the Christian recites the Rosary. The Rosary is a prayer of veneration for the Mother of God. It is a sequence of prayers beginning with the Lords Prayer once, the Hail Mary three times, the Glory be to the Father once, and then the Fatima. It is often followed by the Hail, Holy Queen prayer.

Now I don't follow the Catholic doctrine of reciting the Rosary as I disagree with their theological underpinnings. I don't agree that Mary herself was perfect. I do agree that, as the Mother of God, the Theotokos deserves adoration and veneration appropriate to her station as intercessor.

So when I recite the Rosary, I say an Orthodox variation:

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come Thy Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses that we might forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Amen.

Rejoice Theotokos and Ever Virgin Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, for thou hast given birth to the Saviour of our souls.

My Bishop is despondent about my switch from Greek to OCA (formerly a Russian diocese and, after the Bolshevik Revolution, self-governing and independent and in 1970 autocephelous as the Orthodox Church in America - the Communists did a number on my Church in more ways than one). They should still let me pray the Lord's Prayer in Greek, though.

I am a Philippine Catholic and I am extremely devoted to Padre Pio.
