Also: I don't get why Australia is owned by the Brits on the map! They got their independence in 1901!

Nope, they were merely a federation of autonomous colonies, they weren't even a dominion yet (not til 1907), Australia wasn't effectively independent until it ratified the 1931 Statute of Westminster in 1942, and it became completely independent only after the Australia Act of 1986 which end all legislative links with the British Parliament.

So yeah, you're gonna be a legal member of the British Empire still buddy.

Also OP, recolor Eritrea....it's an Italian colony, not a British one.

They were literally a caliphate. Mehmed V was a caliph.

I declared independence in 1912. All I need is to go to Germany's, Italy's, and Austria-Hungary's doorstep asking to accept me.

I should secede from the British Empire. The US did that, and that wasn't hard. The UK is probably gonna allow my independence. What's the difference anyway? I'm still in an alliance with them, and good allies too. Also, they already have a huge empire. (Which they lost after ww2) So what is the matter here?

uh, Japan would have been allies with Britain during this time period, not the US.

Also, Canada, remember you are still legally a member of the British Empire. You may want to read up on the extent of Canadian autonomy prior to the 1931 Statute of Westminster.

Edited.

Yes you'd be a dominion at this point, you and Canada are pretty much in the same position. In foreign affairs you both would have to ask the British government to speak on your behalf and to legislate for you in certain areas.

Marsisian wrote:I should secede from the British Empire. The US did that, and that wasn't hard.

That'd be incredibly unrealistic, there'd be no real causus belli. Unless the player of the UK fucks up his relationship with the dominions badly (like by infringing on their autonomy) you'd have popular support against your government.

Wait. Canada is a different color on the map from the UK so...if he's a different color, why aren't I a different color? I have semi-autonomy, like Canada. Me and Canada are both dominions.

Being a semi-autonomous region of another player's country can get very interesting. I've done it before and you can toy around with alot of things. A lot of what the dominions could and couldn't do was a huge gray area, as they straddled the fine line between being nations in their own right and being self governing subjects of the British Empire.
