[PASSED] Condemn Gest

Postby Abacathea » Sat Oct 19, 2013 10:51 am

To be honest, this is a little satirical, but I make no secret of my disdain for the riders at the best of times.

As always, feedback appreciated, tried to keep this one short and sweet though.

Condemn Gest

A resolution to express shock and dismay at a nation or region.

Category: Condemnation | Nominee: Gest | Proposed by: Abacathea

The Security Council;

Recognizing; the honorable nation of Gest as a high ranking, senior official in the region of The Black Riders, a region known for it's callous destruction of other regions, many of which have taken place under orders from or the supervision of Gest;

Believing; that it is by no means a small feat to repeatedly sack and destroy regions of varying sizes, especially ones that put up little in the way of resistance;

Understanding that the highest ranking members of The Black Riders simply cannot nor ever will stop their thirst for conquering regions large and small, primarily small;

While further believing that the nations of this Assembly have a right to be forewarned of this nation and that it would be lacking of the Security Council not to give Gest the international black mark it deserves;

Hereby;
Condemnds Gest.

Condemn Gest

A resolution to express shock and dismay at a nation or region.

Category: Condemnation | Nominee: Gest | Proposed by: Abacathea

The Security Council;

Recognizing; the "honorable" nation of Gest as a high ranking, senior official in the region of The Black Riders, a region known for it's callous destruction of other regions which claims to have successfully carried out over 2000 raids since 2011, many of which have taken place under direct orders from or the supervision of Gest;

Further recognizing the nation of Gest was one of the co-founders when The Black Riders were refounded by General Halcones, ultimately assisting the growth and redevelopment of The Black Riders into the strong region it has since become.

Noting that The Black Riders, under orders from Gest, have also assisted other significant raiding regions in their destruction of smaller regions, including, but not limited to, the recent capture of Sapphire by The Black Hawks.

Believing; that it is by no means a small feat to repeatedly sack and destroy regions of varying sizes, especially ones that put up little in the way of resistance and that many regions both large and small have eventually crumbled as a direct consequences of the actions of Gest, ultimately failing to ever recover from the damage caused as a result.

Aware that aside from regions sacked by direct orders from Gest, Gest has also directly participated in the successful recent sacking of Coffee House, Death Star and Orion, all of which are struggling to recover from the damage inflicted upon them.

Further aware of the sheer brutality and destruction Gest inflicts on captured regions demonstrated by the capture of Planet X whereby Gest oversaw the forced closure of close to 1000 diplomatic embassies held by the region at that time.

Convinced that as one of the highest ranking members of The Black Riders, Gest poses a considerable threat to international stability and regional security alike;

While further believing that the nations of this Assembly have a right to be forewarned of this nation and that it would be lacking of the Security Council not to give Gest the international black mark it deserves;

Hereby;
Condemns Gest.

At least Capitalize the The Black Riders
Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

Looks very clean to me. I did spot a few minor things, and I have some suggestions as well.

Noting that The Black Riders(comma here) under orders from Gest(comma here) have also assisted other significant raiding regions in their destruction of smaller regions, including but not limited to The Black Hawks most recently in their procurement of Sapphire.

The end of this section is worded a little oddly for my personal taste, but it's grammatically correct. I might suggest changing it to:
Noting that The Black Riders, under orders from Gest, have also assisted other significant raiding regions in their destruction of smaller regions, including, but not limited to, the recent capture of Sapphire by The Black Hawks.

Believing; that it is by no means a small feat to repeatedly sack and destroy regions of varying sizes, especially ones that put up little in the way of resistance and that many regions both large and small have ultimately crumbled as a direct consequences of the actions of Gest ultimately (there should also be a comma here since you're expanding on another idea after this part and it reads as a run-on without one) failing to ever recover from the damage caused as a result.

Aware that aside from regions sacked by direct orders from Gest, they themselves have Gest has also directly participated in the successful recent sacking of Coffee House, Death Star and Orion, all of which are struggling to recover from the damage inflicted upon them.

Content-wise, I would maybe also include something about the multiple raids conducted in single updates.

Edited, also didn't like the double usage of "ultimately" when I read it aloud, so edited that too.

That sort of info would be over my head personally and leaving me open to attack in the debate portion. If it's something widely known amongst the community though I can only hope it would be a relevant factor in national heads when they have their voting hats on.

I'm not entirely sure if that is accurate. Gest may have given the order, but someone should check because it may have been someone else in the General Staff of TBR. That having been said, Gest certainly has done so in various other cases. He also set a record I believe when we raided Planet X for most embassy closures in a single raid. I believe there were 1,000.

I have it on good Authority that Gest has been ordering troops into Sapphire. Whether or not he gave the initial order or not I'm not sure, but it is fact that he has since ordered troops in.

It's always hard to differentiate raiders from one another (compared to defenders) but I don't think Gest has done enough to justify this badge of honour. There are many gameplayers with a much better pedigree than him that have gone largely unnoticed in the SC. I will vote AGAINST this if it makes it to vote.

It would be easier just to incorporate a "Grief Region" button, so you wouldn't even need to make the effort to do the actual raiding. Players could just bounce from region to region and destroy everyone else's efforts at will, without even bothering about WA status. Wouldn't that be nice. -Frisbeeteria
