Can't be bothered to log onto Archraevor every time, so I'll be acting on behalf of Archraevor

DP147:Storm of Controversy Erupts
RHAEGEN:In the Archraevon capital city of Rhaegen today, protests from pro-homosexuality groups erupted around the city, crowding at the Supreme Court to appeal that Democratic Proposal 147, better known as DP147, be repealed. These protests have come barely a day after DP147, forbidding members of the same sex to legally marry, was passed.

Said Mr. Michael Dunwich, spokesperson for the Rainbow Group, an organization dedicated to protecting the rights of gays:"DP147 has become infamous, and rightly so. What has Archraevor come to, that gays have to forever stay apart because of an arbitrary decision by Parliament?"

In the Fourth, Fifth and Green Districts, the protest has turned violent. Nobody was injured or killed, but property amounting to $13,582 Antes total has been damaged. In some areas, the Riot Squad has been sent to quell the disturbance.

"Regardless of their reason for protesting, we have strict laws about demonstrations:keep it peaceful. If [the protestors] refuse to comply, the Riot Squad will be forced to keep the peace," said Abraham Alex, the chief of police for Rhaegen. "It's sad when we have to resort to violence to make our points in a democratic and open society."

Primer's Son revealed to be Pro-Democracy rebel cell leader
Louis Era has been found speaking at a Pro-Democracy rally today by multiple sources. The Primer has this to say "I didn't know! I have sent Allen Pink to return him here where he will be imprisoned for conspiracy. When asked if his son will receive capital punishment the Premier had no comment.

When Louis was spotted he froze and ran off the stage. Surrounded by armed guards, and if border guards are correct, shot up some crossings and fled into a neighboring country. Wanson is considering invading to get him back. They have sent a Ambassador to the country to try to get them to extradite him back here.

If Louis returns to Wanson, he will no doubt get the maximum prison sentence for escaped fugitives, 15 years and for killing government officials, life in prison. The Premier is bound to step in on his defense.

Strike breakers or money takers?
written by Madison Riley,

Tensions rose today in Alfred, one of the mining camps in Neuer Stahl. The mine owners of Neuer Stahl clashed with the industrialist of Studen as an argument broke out between the several great trade houses. What caused this mishap? Our reporters in the capital of Studen have heard rumors that the factory owners felt that the laborers of Neuer Stahl have not been producing enough resources and heard that the Great Trade House of Techi, the owners of several rich mines in Neuer Stahl, have told their workers to strike until Studen industrialist properly reimbursed Neuer miners. This caused two of Studen's more prominent trade houses of Olson and Hienarch to send their privatized military forces to act as strike breakers until production has sped up.

We were able to have a reporter talk to a Neuer Stahl miner to hear his take on the story, "We were mindin' our own businesses when those troops start walking up. They look like they've seen some serious action but the rest of us old coots knew that they were just boys who were being paid. We didn't know what was going on until one of them addressed us to stop the strike and continue production. Then they started spurting something about us all paying a fine for striking and that's when it all started. They shot tear gas at us and cornered us in the mine tellin' us if we moved they had permission to open live fire. They went on their business looting our camp and taking all our valuables. They even had the balls to steal the companies charter certificate that was put on display since I reckon the opening of the mine" the man then ended the conversation by spitting on the ground and muttered foul words about the people of Studen

Now our listeners, we are wondering here in the Wealth Chronicle studio here in Vauraus, was this a desperate stunt for money, a political stunt for the province of Studen telling the world Neuer Stahl still belongs to them, or the rightful act of two great trade houses who did what any one would do?

Interesting stories from our homeland? Feel free to visit or send us a letter or email at our home office: 1456 Gold Road, Vauraus, WealthyChronicals@Dal.com

LETHIS, Boethnia ― The first female, Social-Democrat Chancellor was inaugurated into office earlier this evening in front of the Lyons Square. As she repeated her inaugural oath to the Counsel-General, the rest of Boethnia took in the historic moment in silence. The policy changes to come based on Chancellor de Girardin and the Social-Democratic Party's platform will be sweeping, but since she was elected to the executive position with overwhelming support, it would seem that most Boethnians are supportive of her ideas.

"I, Jean de Girardin, do solemnly swear," she repeated with her hand on the Boethnian constitution, "that I shall always be true and faithful to the Boethnian people. I shall also with my life and blood protect the integrity of the Boethnian state, and defend our way of life and government in accordance with our laws, which I shall obey and follow. This I swear on my honour and conscience."

All Chancellors have sworn personalized inaugural oaths, but political analysts believe that the fierce wording of Chancellor de Girardin's oath means further attempts of reintegration with territory and ethnic Boethnians lost after the partitions. It comes of particular concern to Émile Simon, professor emeritus of the University of Lethis, as a "needless waste of resources and manpower in a world that no longer cares for historic injustices," and that the new Chancellor's efforts would be better spent "tending to the problems immediately in her face, rather than to distract the populace with bread and circuses and war."

Indeed, Chancellor de Girardin must face the daunting task of reforming both the economy and society of Boethnia. Industrial and financial growth has slowed down significantly over the past decade, and she must grasp the reins and lead the country to another economic upheaval, while simultaneously tackling the issues of homosexuality and drugs, which she said she would bring up in debate.

Tonight, however, Chancellor de Girardin does not care much for the mutterings of her enemies in academia, politics, and public life. The inaugural celebrations in Lethis, including a parade and pyrotechnical displays will continue through morning to tomorrow.

The first debate session for the new Collegiate will be held on the fourth of August, 2013 CE.

Dalria castigated by press for failing to stop ransacking of homes and threatening people with live ammunition - "It is an affront to human rights and dignity,' PM says.

From our Chattakang Islands Office.

Image
The Spring Palace, Alexandria, The Commonwealth of Sebvorshka
Despite his continued meetings with the President of Ressano, and continued controversy over the insider trading alleged to have taken place, the Prime Minister found time to criticize the Aristocracy of Dalria in a wide-ranging press release last night from the Spring Palace. "No matter whether striking is illegal or not, it is an affront to human rights and dignity to ransack people's homes and threaten to kill them, and illustrates severe moral failings inconsistent with the modern nation that Dalria ought to be. We call upon the government of Dalria to crack down on these heinous acts, and to join us in the prosperous and naturally friendly collection of civilized nations."

These strong words lend further credence to the government's widely quoted 'get tough policy', designed to further the spread of economic, social, and political liberal tolerance after the recent lull in foreign adventurism. The widespread success of recent interventions, once again giving the government new confidence and self-assurance, has silenced critics, and even now the Prime Minister's comments have already led some commentators to question whether this is to be the start of yet another military stand for basic rights. However the Prime Minister refused to comment on such a matter, leaving informed opinion to be that the stinging rebuke is designed to be just that, and leaving the ball in the Court of Dalria.

Independent Constitutional Commission Moots Semi-Presidentialism
Suggests weakening role of President; stricter term limits

CALVENTIA – Taking a page from foreign attempts to limit the re-emergence of a dictatorial President, the Independent Constitutional Commission suggested the implementation of a semi-Presidential system in which elements of the head of government mantle is devolved from the sole figure to a similarly responsible Premier.

Image
The Commission's temporary home in the Avoust Block
The Commission, tasked by the Provisional Government to suggest revisions to the now-abridged Branting-era constitution, expressed the opinion through its Chairman and impromptu spokesperson Michael Davrange, who gave a number of scheduled statements and interviews on Friday.

"At the most basic level, it is apparent to legal scholars and laymen alike that the constitutional system itself was a tool for the Brantings to hold dictatorial powers like they did. So for the time that we spent evaluating the various systems of executive leadership elsewhere, the [system] with the most ease of application and cultural relevance, we felt, was semi-presidentialism."

The proposed system would restrict the President's powers to his role as head of state, and as the government's director of foreign policy objectives, in concert with the Cabinet. Said cabinet would be led by a first-among-equals Premier or Prime Minister – altogether being responsible to a bi- or unicameral legislature. The most apparent change to Ressanian citizens' presence in the system would be rigid term restrictions and elections at five years for the legislature and Premier, and seven for the President. "Cohabitation then," added Davrange, "is very much a possibility, and with strong multi-party institutions, countering the possibility of an over-powered branch of the executive."

When asked about the likelihood of such a system being implemented, Davrange said that the "proposal was formally made to the Provisional Government earlier [Friday]." The interim President, Francis Dahlmann, was himself not available for comment, at present meeting with his counterparts in Alexandria, Libraria and Ausitoria. The Vice President, speaking informally with the Evening Post this afternoon, said that the government had indeed received the suggestion and "welcomed the necessary discourse on the right way forward."

Louis Found!
Today Louis Era, Son of the Premier was found under a pile of hair in rural Wanson. When the owners were interrogated about Louis, they said they didn't know he wast there, nevertheless they were killed. Louis hasn't gone quietly though, when he was found he stabbed a police officers hand with a kitchen knife then ran. Louis ran to the road, stole a car, then led the police on a high speed chase down a mountain pass. After a while he flew through a spike strip, popping his front left tire. The car then skidded out of control and flipped down the mountain, stopping on a large boulder. Louis is in critical condition at St. Germain Hospital in downtown Vault City, Primer Era was distraught at the news and personally killed the officer responsible for throwing the spike strip.

When questioned on weather Louis will be arrested or not, the Primer said that no he wont, he will be severely punished by him, not by the Law. This announcement has enraged the people, calling for justice. Louis's doctors say that he will make a full recovery, weather this was out of fear of death or not isn't certain. They also say that they are going to put Louis on the operating table. They will have to do a full facial reconstruction since his face was badly mangled in the crash.

World Assembly declared state of 'Anarchy' provokes angst and vote of no confidence

How could a nation with an 'omnipresent' government and 'totally unknown' crime be an 'anarchy' with a complete breakdown of social order?

Image
The World Assembly Headquarters
Following the World Assembly recategorization of the nation as in as state of 'anarchy', with 'a complete breakdown in social order', the opposition Christian-Conservative alliance has called a motion of no confidence. Sir Nicholas Mervsky, leader of the opposition, took the opportunity to call upon the government to refocus on the nation, and to work to further improve lifestyles, rather than 'tearing away at the social fabric of the nations'.

While the vote will be entirely symbolic, as the Liberal & Free Trader party continues to enjoy a safe majority in both houses, a spokesperson found it necessary to drew attention to what he saw as the continued confidence of the World Assembly bureaucrats. He pointed to the continued recognition by the World Assembly that the Government remained as omnipresent behind the scenes as ever, and that by international standards crime remains at the rock bottom. He said the Government was rediscovering its vision 'to spread freedom as far as possible', and repeated the viewpoint that retreating from restricting citizens is not the same as abandoning them.

However, despite assurances from the government, there has been quiet public angst and debate over the new categorization. Mrs. Catherine Betsky, leader of the Social Labour Party, stated that despite all the government's progress in development, 'we need a compassionate leadership that shares our values, that protects our morales, and that listens to the people's concerns. The government is pushing ahead rapidly with vast wide-reaching reforms assaulting natural family life and decency without proper debate, and it is our duty as citizens to speak out against it'. The Social Labour Party is also expected to join the Christian-Conservative alliance in their symbolic vote of no confidence.

Wanson on the Brink!
Today government hired workers have declared a general strike due to Louis not going to trial. At the same time thousands have swarmed into the streets of many major cities in a protest against the ineffective justice system. When police were dispatched to stop the protests, they turned into riots that caused massive damage and injured hundreds on both sides. The Premier has declared Martial Law as the rioters descended on the streets again, with what seemed like leaders and weapons. The military was managed to contain the riots across the nation, but they killed 3 soldiers.

A illegal privately owned radio station has appeared called the Voice of Freedom. Led by a man who calls himself the Patriot, he is calling for the end of the corrupt Primers leadership and Louis to lead them. Riots continue to flare up, each more organized and armed than the last, in the biggest one, in the Capital yesterday, the MPs were fired on by the crowed and forcing them back to the relative safety of the Capitol Lawn. The riots ended just hours ago, leaving the city in ruins and pushing tensions to the breaking point.

Dalrian criticism creates diplomatic uproar

Image
Chattakang Palace
Following the criticism furnished on the Dalria Government by the Ausitorian Government and Press over strike-breaking tactics, referred to by the Prime Minister, Sir Henry Taylor, as "an affront to human rights and dignity", tensions have bubbled up between the two opposing governments. Despite being both pro-business, and indeed ranking equally pro-business on the Rand Index, the Prime Minister and his government have held solid and refused to step back from the brink, with the Duke Palmerston fueling the fire by castigating their "pervasive crime".

However, the Palace has also confirmed that the Ausitorian Government has loaned Chattakang Island from the controlling Corporation for the express purpose of meeting with the Dalrian Government to resolve their differences, and added that a delegation has already been invited. The Prime Minister, while refusing to retract his comments, stated that he "looked forward to a chance to exchange views with their delegation", a sentiment earlier put forward by the Duke Palmerston, who, for all his well-known Abrasive Brimstone style, had added that he "felt that the Dalrian delegation ought to make their case" - which, for all his earlier statements on the sovereignty of nations, he clearly feels the Dalrians have a duty to so.

While some commentators have suggested that this is all a bargaining ruse to embarrass the Dalrians into supporting the formation of a free trade zone in the area; other commentators have pointed out that should the Dalrian government gain regional sovereigntist sympathy, the plan could backfire and the wrong side be embarrassed. The government has however refused to comment on how much economic liberalism and trade will be discussed; although the Duke Palmerston added, in a relatively consiliatory fashion, that "communicating our opinion to encourage change is the way forward to mutual prosperity".

University of Provost to host the first World Debating Forum
THREE-DAY INVITATIONAL DEBATE CONFERENCE TO ATTRACT INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS TO HARLAUS, BOETHNIA

| Ebba Christins
| Staff Reporter, The Lethisian Diurnal
| 17:43 LST 7th August, 2013 CE

Harlaus, BOETHNIA ― The University of Prevost released the long-awaited schedule for the first annual World Debating Forum (Verdensdrøftforumet, VDF) earlier today. The three-day event is expected to bring together students and intellectuals from across Antesalia "for senior wranglers dueling with words on topics both interdisciplinary and highly relevant in our world today on an international stage," according to the Prevost Debating Union, which is hosting the conference.

There will be a total of six debates, two on each day, with a prepared motion in the morning and an impromptu motion in the afternoon. The prepared motions, selected through popular vote by the students of the University of Provost, are as follows:

  1. This House believes that capitalism has failed.
  2. This House believes that military intervention is necessary to protect human rights.
  3. This House believes that the partitions of Boethnia were justifiable.
"Invitations have been sent to most of the leading educational institutions in Antesalia," said Carl Langevin, the President of the Prevost Debating Union. "We're all really looking forward to the debates as a place for not only the students to voice their opinions on issues that they've seen in class and in the news and in the world, but for our teachers and policy-makers to defend their own positions. We're not here to make people feel uncomfortable, but to have people re-examine their own ideas and beliefs about the world. In the end, it's about discovering ourselves and being able to defend our positions."

"Some people might think our debaters are being inflammatory, but that's only because we're talking about events and ideals that affects most of us, often deeply," Carl added. "The Prevost Debating Union will be there to try and keep things civil. We want to create an environment where we feel comfortable voicing our opinions, even if others have different ideas."

Admissions to the event is US$ 100.00, or US$ 150.00 for participants; hotels in Harlaus and the Harlaus Regional Aerodrome are expecting increased traffic in the upcoming week. The World Debating Forum will begin on the 8th of August, 2013 CE.

Rioting in the Streets!
Today Louis Era has ran away from home. He escaped in the midst of a huge, violent riot, authorities are currently looking for him. He has been locked in his room while the Premier deals with the problems Louis caused. The Wansonian Intelligence Bureau (WIB) has been assigned the task of hunting him down.

The rioters have become organized and are calling themselves the Freedom Army. Although they are still just rioting, the Government expects them to jump to open conflict within the month. Police are raiding suspected leaders houses, only to receive gunfire. The Primer has moved from his home to Fort Lee, 3 miles out of town, after Louis escaped. He is prepared to go to war and is asking that our neighbors close their borders if war does break out.

Today Louis has released a statement from a undisclosed announcement. He has scrambled a TV station and broadcast a video stating
"My fellow countrymen, it is I Louis Era, friend of democracy. I am calling you to arms against my oppressive father and his goons. He has suppressed you for long enough, rise and fight for your freedom! My associates and I will not stop until freedom is brought here, or die trying"

The Primer has officaly announced that Civil War has broken out in Wanson. They have called for all still loyal forces to report to their bases and prepare for war. They have also have notified the entire region, calling them in to assist in the war. The Rebels have not declared independence, but a guerrilla war. Cities are laced with potential rebel fighters or Government soldiers.

Supreme Court recognizes 'legitimate grievances' of the rebels in Wanson, and authorizes operations to protect Civilians

Image
The Supreme Court, Alexandria
Following the unrest in the States of Wanson, the Union Supreme Court of the Imperial Commonwealth, in a short finding, recognized the 'legitimate grievances of the demonstrators, calling for the establishment of equal laws and the protection of their rights; opposed to a corrupt 'government' that has evidently failed in its duty to govern justly'. The Court also reiterated the Commonwealth's oft-quoted doctrine that 'it is right and duty of all nations to take all necessary measures to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under attack'. This language, said by some to serve as de-jure recognition of the opposition, and government spokespersons have stated that they are preparing for a possible armed intervention to enforce standards of conduct during what commentators expect to be a particularly nasty civil war.

In the fast moving political scene, the Prime Minister had formerly called 'for calm' and 'measured responses on all sides', but, recognizing that the situation had moved beyond that, he announced that "the Foreign Secretary has issued an invitation to Louis Era and his allies, and also to the Premier, to discuss how best the Commonwealth can assist in addressing grievances, ensuring a smooth transition, and creating a legitimate government for all the people in Wanson". The Duke of Palmerston, presently in the Chattakang Islands holding ongoing trade talks with the Dalrian government, issued a short statement, repeating that "violence unacceptably lowers the chance of future conciliation, and at this stage, communication between all parties involved is the best way to encourage change and bring about shared mutual prosperity" - mutual prosperity evidently remaining the rallying cry of this government.

The prospect of another armed intervention has predictably split the Opposition Conservative Party, with the Leader of the Opposition unavailable for comment. Mrs Catherine Betsky, leader of the Social Labour Party, has however quickly rallied opposition to the government's involvement, calling upon the Prime Minister "to refrain from foreign adventurism and risking our brave soldiers", stating that they should "focus on improving the lot of people at home". All that is sure is that the ongoing debate on interventionism will continue to divide the country.

The Chattakang Conspiracy: The Duke of Palmerston announces Free Trade Zone with Dalria in Chattakang Islands while government buys back liabilities

Image
Treasure ahoy: Chattakang Island marks the spot?
Following the announcement this morning by the Supreme Court that the Fan of Swords are legally liable for all debts minus market-absorbed 'panic' losses, which a court spokesperson stated accounts for in the region of a billion bookmarks and growing; the government has compulsorily purchased the lot, citing 'anti-market manipulation' and laws in the first such blanket price fix in over fifty years. The Prime Minister, Sir Henry Taylor, was widely criticized for this decision in a cross-party grilling until the Supreme Judge sent in a note and revealed the court ordered it as a 'de-principio' constitutional precedent, an entirely new concept, and refused to explain further, citing confidentiality and threats of libel, and stated that it was unlikely to be more than a nine day's wonder.

Such remarkable legal manipulation, unseen since the courts saw off the attempted coup de'tat after the War of the Protectorates by granting themselves the authority to ensure their interpretation was followed, has sent lawmakers on the hop. The Jurispudence Committee, including twenty seven cross-bench and cross-house members immediately summoned the Supreme Court and filed into a secret room, and, after a mere twenty minutes, ended their investigation, all testifying to Parliament that although they're not allowed to explain, the court is absolutely in the right, and that the government will suffer no losses. Conspiracy theories have abounded, and Chattakang Island traders have been known to have guaranteed liabilities from the government. Precisely where the administrative costs will be covered from is unknown.

Counteracting the jittery private markets however has come the news of the Trade Treaty with Dalria and the Chattakang Islands development plan, with the Alexandrian Index having soared back to hit an all-time peak of 11,347. Agreed in negotiations conducted by the Duke Palmerston in the aftermath of the earlier 'insult' over strike-breaking laws, the treaty will effectively ban market discrimination between the nations and provide for the establishment of international trading zones, which the Courrante understands will for the moment be provided by the East side of Chattakang Island, which the government is finalizing an agreement with.

While Ms. Betsky, leader of the Social Labour Party, castigated the government for opening the markets to yet more competition at such a fragile time, while the Prime Minister replied that he felt that the rising standards of living suggested that forcing businesses to do the best they possibly could was sound economic policy. He also took the opportunity to move a vote of thanks to commend Dalria, the Dalrian government, and all those who had furthered the project to bring about further mutual prosperity, a motion passed by a large majority in both houses.

PLF Revolt Enters Fifth Month

Image

KEMTATUS, NEW PANTI. Five moths after the People's Liberation Front, a socialist political party, attempted to usurp control of government of New Panti, the war against them continues. Around 250 soldiers in the New Panti Armed Forces have been killed since the fighting started, and government officials fear it will not end in the near future. "It's really something. The PLF has amassed so much support among the populace that anyone could be an enemy." General Hack James had to say. "After all this time we have only managed to capture two high-ranking officials in the insurgency. This does not seem like it will end soon."
In a recent video released five days ago, the leader of the PLF, Giorgio Tsokavos, said "The PLF has roots throughout New Panti. We cannot be stopped."

Nuclear Capabilities

On the first day of the revolt, the city of Jannji, in Eastern New Panti, was destroyed by a 6-megaton nuclear device, killing 90,000 people instantly. Since then, military leaders have been questioning whether the PLF has more nuclear devices.
"The loss of Jannji stunned the nation, and above all proved to us that this was not your average everyday political turmoil." General James continued. "Since then we have had many questions, and no answers. So the answer is no, we have no idea whether they have more nuclear weapons."
Operation Firestorm is the current military campaign against the PLF, with much of the Army being deployed into the Genardon Desert, where most of the PLF is believed to be hiding. We will bring your more information as it becomes available.

Belkan military put on standby as regional stability is threatened

Phyrrus,Belka-It was confirmed a short while ago that key Belkan military sites have been placed on high alert in response to increasing concerns over the stability of the region. In the previous months, several of the republic's neighbors have been assaulted by various external and internal threats ranging from civil uprising to nuclear devastation.

The rapidly escalating violence within the region has worried senior officials and regular citizens alike and as a result the Fuhrer has ordered immediate military readiness to be obtained.

A senior General commanding a unit in Central Belka was quoted as saying, ''The Fuhrer wants to be prepared if the regional violence spills over into our borders. If it comes to that, we will be prepared to strike back in a very impressive show of force.'' The Belkan national government has been relatively withdrawn from international affairs as of late, most likely as a result of the political backlash of the Fuhrer's revelation that the state had obtained the ability to independently mass produce weapons of mass destruction and was willing to aid other nations in acquiring similar capabilities themselves or providing them with the weapons themselves.
Image

The only news out of the capital has been the rumors of a high-level diplomatic meeting between members of the governments of Belka and Ressano. Which was supposed to have happened sometime last week. Members of the Belkan Department of State or Außenministerium have declined to comment on that particular rumor at the moment.

As for the Republic's military readiness, observers have commented on the increased activity near several of Belka's suspected ICBM or Inter Continental Ballistic Missile as well as conventional ballistic missile launch sites as well as several weapons depots. A former Oberleutnant with the Belkan Luftwaffe speculated that the ''impressive show of force'' could possible been a mass missile strike.

Since the Fuhrer's ascension to power several years ago, the state's missile production centers have been notably expanded and security increased more than tenfold. It has been estimated by military and industrial analyst's from across the region that Belka might possess the largest store of non-nuclear Ballistic missiles within the region and the country's large industrial complex gives it the ability to increase it's inventory to exponential proportions within a short span of time.

The last time Belka used it's ballistic missiles against an enemy was in during the first Belkan civil war when royalist forces utilized them to level strategic military targets in neighboring countries that were suspected of aiding rebels. Over the course of the war over two thousand missiles were fired at international targets with the estimated casualties ranging anywhere from the high hundreds to the low thousands.

If push comes to shove, many observers say that Belka could inflict massive damage to it's target within a very short period of time and possible knock out it's enemies with it's first strike ability.

This latest turn of event's means that the region is well on it's way to becoming a powder keg and if the last few months are any indicator of the future then war might be on the horizons.

Nuclear Arsenal ready in Antesalia as Government Comments on Submarine forces, ending 43-years of secrecy.

Image
An Illustration of a Ballistic Missile Launch
Following the confirmation of the high alert in The Greater Belkan Reich, a nation marked more for its absence of liberties than its defence of them, the Deputy Secretary of State for War, Sir Charles Littleton, confirmed the presence of multiple Nuclear-armed Submarines in Antesalia, in addition to the fleet currently exercising in Ressano and the three fleets stationed around Visborthnia. Commenting on the move the Defence Secretary announced that "this is a routine response, a deterrent, not a threat of force, and that nuclear war remains too unbearable for the Imperial Commonwealth to start."

Defence commentators immediately picked up on the considerable change of policy. For 43 years the government has refused to comment on anything involving the submarine forces, preferring to keep quiet about their reach and capabilities. It remains one of the few subjects that a freedom of information request will not get you anywhere with. However, the Deputy Secretary of State made light of the change of policy, comparing it to forward guidance on inflation adopted by many central banks in the wake of the Gholgoth-blockade induced crash. "The aim of a deterrent is to deter, and this must send a clear message to any nations which might be so stupid as to seriously consider starting a nuclear war".

The stock market, having fallen further on the news from the Belkan Reich on top of the widely-expected war gathering in Pannessos, stabilized for a while despite accusations by Social Labour Party of 'warmongering' and 'playing dice with nukes'. However it fell further upon the news that a rocket launch due to place commercial satellites in geostrationary orbits this afternoon has had its cargo replaced at the last minute with additional spy satellites, an unscheduled move that many commentators say suggests worry high up in the government.

Government declares "watchful neutrality" in Wanson conflict

Image

KEMTATUS, NEW PANTI. In response to the deteriorating situation in Wanson, the government of New Panti has taken a stance of "watchful neutrality" in the conflict. "We have no place in Wanson's civil war." said President Farragut in an interview with the Antesalian Times. "That said, we will be monitoring the situation very closely. If war crimes are committed by either side or WMDs are brought into play, we will not hesitate to end the conflict."
"It's a new term we call watchful neutrality." General Oliver Jameson told us. "It means we are officially neutral, but are monitoring the situation and will get involved if necessary."
Since this statement was released, the Navy, as well as the Marine Corps, has been put on high alert, as the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Fleets have set course for the coast of Wanson. We have been told that cruise missiles are being prepared, but have had no confirmation whether this claim is true or not.
Ending his interview, the President had this to say:
"We hope this conflict is resolved quickly and in a civilized manner, and that we will not have to get involved."

Giorgio Tsokavos killed, PLF all but crippled

Image
A diagram of Tsokavos' compound.

Genardon, New Panti. Giorgio Tsokavos, the leader of the radicalist People's Liberation Front, was confirmed to have been killed last night by New Panti Special Forces in a high-stakes raid on his compound. "I am very proud of our nation's soldiers today." Hack James, leader of the NPSF told us. "Now that Tsokavos has been killed, most of the PLF leaders have begun to turn themselves in, and fighting has significantly winded down."
A statistic provided by the government has shown that most of the PLF's leaders have indeed surrendered within the past 8 hours and fighting has stopped almost all over the country.
"With the PLF out of the way, we can now focus our attention onto Wanson, and the civil war engulfing that country." President Farragut said. "I would like to say on behalf of all government officials that we would like to thanks our soldiers for putting down this rebellion."
Since the death of Tsokavos, two more Navy fleets have been deployed to the coast of Wanson, with an unknown number of Marines accompanying them.

Belka reiterates Autarky goals

Phyrrus,Belka-Today in a early morning press conference in former Royal Palace in Sudentor, Belka by the Fuhrer's Press Secretary released a statement by the Fuhrer himself that stated [that the Belkan nation must and will commit itself to the goal economic and philosophical Autarky].The statement went on to say ''[that] the Belkan nation cannot obtain it's rightful place in the annals of history and prestige if it dependent on lesser nations for vital supplies and lifeblood and that such a state is neither desirable or fit for a state such as ours''.

Autarky or Self-sufficiency has been a constant theme in the Fuhrer's speeches since his ill-fated presidential campaign several years ago. Fuhrer Stark has always been a vocal opponent of relying on other nations for strategic goods and services and during his tenure as the leader of the Belkan state and people, has pressed for Belka to expand it's resource exploitation as well as encouraging Belkan industries to expand to provide the services that other nations seek to market internationally.

Key to the Fuhrer's strategy is his creation of ''National Champions'' or corporations and conglomerates that are not only concerned with profit but also national objectives. Several ''National Champions'' have been created in the last several years, chief among which is the multi-national company '' Herrschaft Industries'' which has offices in more than 25 different nations and employs over a million Belkans.

Herrschaft Industries is just one of the many corporations which have been created through the state-sponsored mergers aimed at increasing Belka's ability to compete internationally as well as dominate regional competition. The corporation is a extremely new entity only being officially incorporated last year, through the merger of two industry giants, Starke Industries and Rook Industries, both companies held heavy presences in the national as well as International Arms markets.

The '''Herrschaft'' merger as it was called, revitalized the stagnating Arms Manufacturing market and brought about a period of intense speculation of futures in the arms, heavy manufacturing and banking sectors. In the aftermath of the merger, several smaller corporations were acquired by the new Herrschaft Corporations, which brought on another period of heavy speculation.

Herrschaft was only the tip of the iceberg so to speak as several more corporations were created out of mergers between previous competitors and the market was transformed from a state of heavy competition to mass streamlining as markets were consolidated and excess and unimportant but profitable sectors were sold off to foreign investors.

The current administrations' economic policy has been one of expansion and consolidation, with smaller companies being swallowed whole by their larger corporate cousins and the market has become even more cutthroat than it once was. Mergers and mass buyouts are the norm and as the state prepares itself for the possibility of an intervention in the numerous armed conflicts throughout the region, the arms industry has become the ''to watch'' market as the new ''super corporations''' are no longer dependent on government contracts or handouts and are seemingly pursuing their own profit agendas independent of government supervision despite being Stark creations.

While on the outside it may appear as if these corporate monstrosities are beyond the control of the government, one must remember that they were created with the sole goal of obtaining profit and direct foreign investment and involvement in the Belkan economy which they are doing a beautiful job. As they expand, they are beginning to utilize parts of the Belkan workforce and resources which had previously been wasted as well as making entire sectors more efficient.

If the Arms Manufacturing Sector is the standard for the future of the Belkan Economy then it is safe to assume that complete self-sufficiency in second and third tier activities is not only a possibility but may very soon be the reality. With Autarky in the not so distant future, one can only speculate at how the market as well as other nations, mainly those who currently provide Belka with key resources will take this latest declaration.

Uproar as "Slaver" company trading Labour obligations launches in New Alexandria

Image
Huge demonstrations take place near labour trader's HQ
Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets this morning after our undercover investigators offered conclusive proof that a company has been established to trade in human labour. The headquarters of the Great Servant's Trading Company, rumoured to be backed by many wealthy individuals and corporations, was besieged by angry chanting crowds until the Company called the police to disperse the crowds and fired laughing gas to make it easier to manhandle them out of the way.

In the shocking wave of subsequent public unrest, Sir Henry Taylor, the Prime Minister, appealed for calm, bellowing in a tumultuous debate that "Although the free market is our creed we shall watch this company like a hawk and ensure that they break no rules: no, not a single rule that we have put in place to protect workers here or anywhere else!" - a speech that left parliament roaring their heads off, half shouting their agreement and the other half shouting "Resign!" until the Speaker overloaded the sound system and shattered several window panes before summarily dismissing the house in absolute silence for a short break.

Speaking later, the leaders of the oppositions jointly condemned the free market for allowing "such colossal abuses", calling upon all conscientious MPs "who still have a heart" to vote with their consciousnesses. However, anonymous polls published this morning suggest, interestingly, that although the man on the street is concerned, the majority expect that the government will keep an eye on it in the vein of the Duke of Palmerston's statement, which said that "Of course the government will minutely inspect every element of this development: we cannot possibly allow harm to come of it, or heads will roll. Ours, probably. We are most certainly never going to let this be used as cover for the actual slave trade" - a widely echoed opinion amongst many economically liberal professors, who expect the whole thing to blow over shortly.

The stock market however fell slightly, with many commentators worried about the possibility of war at a time of already increasing foreign entanglements. Some commentators also suggested money was being sucked into this new company - and certainly many orders were placed for armaments, and the Central Bank announced that it would consider cutting interest rates by a further 0.5%.

Transcript of Debate:

Lord Oliver Wrentwight: Would the Prime Minister care to comment on what his government will do to ensure that we are never complicit in such a barbaric and atrocious crime as slavery?
Uproar, cries of Hear Hear.
Prime Minister Sir Henry Taylor: I would like to assure him and the houses that although the free market is our creed - Shouts of 'Shame!' start - (louder) we shall watch this company like a hawk - Shouts of 'Hear Hear!' start - (much louder) and ensure that they break no rules - Shouts of 'Resign!' start - (bellowing) no, not a single rule that we have put in place to protect workers here or anywhere else! Screaming Chaos. Speaker audible shouting "Order!" repeatedly to no avail.
Speaker goes behind throne and presses button. Unearthly ear-piercing sound as windows shatter.
Silence.
Speaker: Order! Silence! I will have every one of you arrested if you say another word. Don't you think I wouldn't! Silence! The Houses are dismissed. You will leave in Silence!
We will return in half an hour to discuss the manufacturer of soft and cuddly toys before we work our way back up to grown-up themes. Various MPs chuckle as Speaker stalks out with impressive decorum, ruining it by slamming the door behind him.
