Crap, have I been too late for declaring my candidacy? I was going to do so last night (talked with MV about it), but my internet turned off.

If it's OK, I declare my candidacy now.

Views on stuff:

HEALTH -
Maintain universal healthcare.
Ensure operations can be performed on time.
Establish free dental and medical check-ups, especially for children.
Establish free cancer screenings.

DEFENCE -
You probably wouldn't like it if I was defence minister, as I kinda support disarmament and stuff. However, if you also are a pacifist, I'm probably the right choice.

BUSINESS SAFETY -
Err... I support safe businesses. I mean, not so safe as to generate apathy or stunt economic growth, but still pretty safe. I'd want to enact some laws on pollution especially.

I go under the name Vyvland now (IIWiki page). This account is used for the odd foray into the Senate or NSG.
Straight male British apatheist pacifist environmentalist social liberal

Admin, New Democrat member for Lüborg (504) and ambassador to the Red-Greens in the Aurentine Senate. Minister of Business Safety of Aurentina. Apparently that deserves a ministry, but I'm not complaining. I'm probably none of these things anymore. | The Aurentine Phrasebook, my magnum opus.

My policies on the issues facing the ministries:

HEALTH
Allow for private health care but still having government-provided universal healthcare
To have 2 free dental checkups and cleanings per citizen per year
To have 1 free eye examination and 1 new pair of glasses every 5 years for every citizen
To make sure that over 90% of the Aurentine population is within 30 minutes of a hospital or clinic
Emphasizing preventative care such as screenings for diseases and making them free to people who are at risk of developing those diseases
Heavy taxation of tobacco to discourage use so as to prevent disease
Allowing marijuana for medical use
Cheaper pharmaceuticals, especially for orphan drugs
Safe injection sites for drug users to reduce deaths and disease transmission
Free contraceptives
Free yearly checkup for all Aurentines

DEFENCE
To maintain a small but strong military for Aurentina that focuses on defence
Increased funding for naval and air forces for patrol of Aurentina's coasts
Against NATO membership

BUSINESS SAFETY
To make sure that businesses are accountable for workplace accidents and their consequences instead of taxpayers
To enforce strict controls on exposure to harmful substances in the workplace
To make sure that whistleblowers won't be punished for exposing unsafe work conditions
Grants for small businesses that exceed expectations for worker safety so that they may continue to do so
A strict no-tolerance approach for large and medium businesses that violate worker safety laws including heavy fines and prosecution

The merger vote ends in 9 hours, at which point I, as co-OP, give Divair permission to ask for the archival of this thread if neither Geilinor nor I are online. He may cite this as proof of my permission.

As soon as that ends, or at least as soon as we can manage, we'll open the floor for ministry elections. Anyone who still wishes to announce their candidacy may do so. We have three positions: Defense, Business Safety, and Health. Current candidates are:

Divair is pestering me to end the merger vote early. I'll end it if we get some motions. The vote will end in 20 minutes if there's no input. Divair and Ainin are going to make the party thread and archive the LD and TR threads today.

We're archiving the LD and TR threads. We'll have the member lists. Nothing changes.

Yeah, bye. It's sad to see the party I've been with from its birth die, but I hope the NDP can be a good successor.
