They have the Marines to carry the guns that aren't.
On a more serious note, it's not common in the US armed forces for anyone outside of the police (military or otherwise) to carry when in a domestic base, especially since a number of those involved were likely civilian DOD employees. Same reason the Fort Hood shooter managed to rampage as long as he did.

Putting armed guards in military bases sounds...straightforward.

A mix of both.
There are shootings in public places almost every day in America, but some receive more media attention then others.
I guess that makes sense.
I doubt the media pays any attention to gang members shooting at each other or an altercation in a crowded place where a gun goes off but no one is killed, etc.
... That is what they're ignoring, right? Please tell me Columbine-style shoot-'em-ups don't happen almost every day.

The current report says 4 dead and eight injured. I've heard conflicting reports about the number of shooters ranging from 1-3, but everywhere I've looked agrees that they've barricaded themselves in a room.
Thoughts? Does it seem to anyone else that we've had more high profile shootings recently? It's probably just hindsight bias, but with Fort Hood, Sandy Hook, Aurora, Trayvon Martin, the Boston bombers, and now this I think I might be right.

One gunman is dead, but police are searching for two more potential gunmen.

Yet another mass shooting, when are you going to sort out your gun laws America?

Agreed, its time we learned that a patchwork approach to gun control isn't working
