Actually it can be rather fun.

The Glitch Egg acts as both an egg and a pokemon. After ~3200 steps it hatches into itself (this will keep happening).
However, you can send it into battle. It can fight but has no moves to it always loses struggle. You can't deposit it into the box. When you black out from losing a fight, it isn't healed, and cannot be healed ever. If you put all of your mon into a box save the Glitch Egg, and the Glitch Egg has no health, you will win every battle before you can send a pokemon out.

it would but it'll take the fun out of battles. i prefer my glitch pokemon to actually be able to battle normally. well as normally as a glitch pokemon can. my level one missingno doesn't exactly battle like a normal pokemon would.

The Glitch Egg only appears in Gen II. Other than ????????? and the Glitch Egg there are no glitch pokemon in Gen II.
The Gen III counter part is "bad EGG", which acts more like an egg than the glitch does. Sometimes it will hatch into a -----. Also, there is a strange glitch where if you attain a ?????????? in Gen III on an emulator and nickname it, it turns into an entirely different pokemon...

Gen IV had more glitch pokemon, such as the Hybrids or Manaphy Egg.

Inserting items into your bag is a very, VERY basic cheat.
