1098 Tynealan Unification League

The Tynealan Unification League is the top level of rugby union competition in the Celtic Union of Tyneala (ie: Aels and Ancharmunn). As the only four professional rugby union clubs in Ancharmunn the provincial sides of Dyary, Machairster and Slievester along with the side representing the capital city Ballyfeeaknock will remain constants in the league. The two lowest placed Aelsh sides however are relegated to the Aelsh Rugby Union Premier League. At the top end of the table the top three clubs qualify for the championship playoffs, with the first placed team qualifying directly for the final and having home advantage for that match. The second placed team hosts the third placed team in the semi-final with the winner progressing to the final.

1098 Tynealan rugby league season

Porthmageed suffered an utter humiliation in last season's playoffs by going out the final with a 40-0 defeat to Ballyfeeaknock Northern. They however came back in fine fettle to claim the league leader's shield for topping the table and then exorcised the ghost of last season's playoff by dispatching Northern in the semi-finals. However they were unable to repeat the trick in the final with Rimsyleanus Brewery winning by a try to take the crown of Super League champions from third place. Missing from the playoffs however were defending champions Caernankry Miners Welfare, the Welfare have gone from world club champions to tenth in Tyneala in just a couple of years.

Aelsh football has long been seen as a sporting backwater, with the league only recently making its top flight fully professional and the nation still not having a full senior national team. However, as the league marks 30 years since its formation in 1069 with the end of the 1098–99 season, the FCA has dropped hints that things may be about to change.

With the country slowly climbing up the UICA co-efficient ranks and Pentref-ar-y-Bae reaching the final of a recent Cygnus Cup, efforts have been made to draw more fans to the sport. The FCA has offered to co-host the Copa Rushmori with Ancharmunn, and has announced plans to televise league matches on free-to-air national television. Additionally, in order to put more emphasis on the league, the FCA Trophy winners will no longer get a Globe Cup spot, which will default to fourth place in the league.

Drayfill City (now Dinas Drefhil) played in the league until 1074/5 before moving to the Charmunnry league system. The FCA are the governing authority for that club, who play in the Ancharmunn league and cup system, but an agreement with Ancharmunn means Drayfill City may only be nominated for international competition by Ancharmunn.

The Premier League utilises a two-home, two-away format for a total of 36 games each, while the Second League teams play each other three times. A one-down, one-up direct promotion and relegation system is in place, while a promotion/relegation league play-off features four teams. The team second from bottom in the Premier League in the teams finishing second, third, and fourth in the Second League take part in this play off. Caerfremin Sundays remain an amateur side, and as such are not eligible for the play-off should they qualify.

Before the season began, title holders Doverston took part in the traditional preseason Tyneala Championship when they travelled to face Red Star and won to retain the Tynealan title in Aels.

Football League of Aels 1098–99 season
There was no change in the identity of the top three teams again, although all three swapped places as Drayfill Town claimed their first title in 10 years on head-to-head results with Doverston after the teams were tied on 66 points. Newly-promoted Hilshore County surprised everyone by finishing fourth to claim the last Globe Cup spot, ahead of Pentref-ar-y-Bae who find themselves out of international competition for the first time in more than a decade. Penfro Irish's stay in the top flight finally came to an end after three seasons as they were relegated through the playoff, while Moulton Seasiders' sojourn lasted all of one year.

The Second League's knack of producing tight finishes continued once again. While Trechoid Wanderers and Llanislwyn Town managed to put some distance between them and the third placed team, the next six teams were split by just two points. Ultimately Llanislwyn would triumph over third and fourth placed Pontyport and Doversham County, as well as Penfro Irish, in the playoff. It was announced after the season that Doversham County would rename themselves Dovershore County to be geographically correct, while the Harling Islanders have been renamed Ynys-y-Môr (meaning Offshore Island or Isle of the Sea).

#No final was held as Drayfill City Reserves won the second semi-final. The trophy was awarded to the club by default. The third place playoff between the losing semifinalists was instead played as a second place playoff, with Penfro Irish winning.

Dinas Drefhil continue to be excluded upon request of the club. All matches were played at pre-determined 'home' venues, with only the final played at the New Free Stone Stadium. Defending champions CCPD Penfro were eliminated at the first hurdle, as were perennial favourites Pentref-ar-y-Bae, leaving the path clear for one Second League team – the Islanders – and one struggling Premier League team – Imeall an Uisce – to make a run to the final.

The National Reserve League is split into West and East divisions of 12 teams each (Caerfremin Sundays, as an amateur team, do not enter a side into the league). The overall league champion is the divisional winner with more points. If both divisional winners are tied on points, the teams will share the reserve league title. For the second year running the title was won by the West champions.

Champions and runners-up are taken from the winners of the play-off final, third place from the losing play-off semi-finalist with the better record over the course of the league season.

Though well off the pace this season, two playoffs in consecutive and a league leaders shield last season for Porthmageed suggested an eastwards growth for rugby league in Tyneala. Further evidence of such a trend came in the play-off challenge of not one but two Aelsh teams. Whilst Drefhil ended up finishing two places off the play-offs it was only on points difference that they did so. Dovershore had no such worries, finishing three points ahead of their Aelsh rivals to claim third place and a first ever play-off qualification by any of the four clubs from Aels. That would be as far as their challenge would go, but in going down by just three points to Rimsyleanus Brewery in the semi-final they certainly gave it one hell of a fight. Something that Brewery also managed in the final, though also to no avail as Ballyfeeaknock Northern triumphed to take the Super League title to the capital for the first time in a decade, along with the league leader's shield.

Despite tallying up the lower aggregate score Machairster reclaimed the Province of Origin crown, in four seasons it has yet to be retained. Whilst those of a Slievester persuasion may claim a moral victory by virtue of aggregate scores Machairster's wins in both of the opening two matches had made the third and final test a dead rubber as well as leaving them in a position to rest players. With pride at stake and a whitewash to be afforded Slievester approached that match in a different manner.

1099 Tynealan Unification League

The Tynealan Unification League is the top level of rugby union competition in the Celtic Union of Tyneala (ie: Aels and Ancharmunn). As the only four professional rugby union clubs in Ancharmunn the provincial sides of Dyary, Machairster and Slievester along with the side representing the capital city Ballyfeeaknock will remain constants in the league. The two lowest placed Aelsh sides however are relegated to the Aelsh Rugby Union Premier League. At the top end of the table the top three clubs qualify for the championship playoffs, with the first placed team qualifying directly for the final and having home advantage for that match. The second placed team hosts the third placed team in the semi-final with the winner progressing to the final.

A dispute within the Aelsh game saw the cancellation of last year's Aelsh ChocoMilk Premier League, a situation that saw reprieves given to Drayfill Bulls and Pilots, the two bottom clubs in last season's TRU. The Bulls were able to take advantage of their letoff and have gained the right to remain in the TRU on the pitch. Pilots meanwhile ended their two year stay by virtue of the points scored tiebreaker with Fishwick Mariners also going down with them. Dyary, perenially at the bottom of the table and almost always the worst of the four Charmunnry teams meanwhile had a season to savour with a second place finish and a first play-off appearance.

Gaelic Games in Ancharmunn

In the context of the sporting world Ancharmunn may be most recognisable by it's soccer team and to a lesser extent by it's rugby league team. As a smug know-it-all git you may come across in a bar will no doubt tell you however, their status as perhaps Ancharmunn's most visible representatives shouldn't fool you for it is neither soccer or rugby league that is the national sport of Ancharmunn. Doubtless he would go on to tell you that Gaelic football and hurling are in fact Ancharmunn's national past-times. In many respects he is correct, but nonetheless should you ever find yourself in this situation you should take a sip of your drink before declaring, “Not quite true actually. The Gaelic games are not the nation sports of Ancharmunn but the national passions of the country.” Should you do so you will have out-smugged and out-known-it-all the smug know-it-all git and as such should vaingloriously drink up and depart your chosen drinking establishment.

Both Gaelic football and hurling have been intertwined in the very fabric of Ancharmunn's society and culture since the very first Gaelic tribes settled upon the land. The two sports were also the first played in Ancharmunn to be officially codified with the foundation of the Gaelic Games Association in the late 1020's. The games had hugely changed from their original versions to the one finally codified and administrated by the GGA, with it generally being accepted that early football consisted largely of pitched battles between neighbouring villages in a game that barely resembles the modern game. The games tended to be forcefully fought and soon large sticks to beat away opponents were brought in, this is generally accepted to have been the birth of hurling.

In modern times both games have standardised sets of rules and organised competitions rather than the ad-hoc battles between neighbours of old. Local rivalries still retain a crucial part of the games however with the bread and butter of both sports being the club side of the game. Clubs generally represent local parishes and as amateur sports players on the whole play for their local club and community. Clubs mostly preoccupy themselves with County Championships in which they compete against other club sides from their county. Only the County Championship winners compete on a nationwide basis in the All-Ancharmunn Club Championship.

The highest level of the game is generally regarded as the county game, where the top club players are called upon to represent their counties. The All-Ancharmunn Senior Championships have been competed for by the sixteen counties of Ancharmunn since 1033 with the Colm Maguire Chalice presented to the football championship winners whilst the hurlers compete for the Brendan O'Sullivan Shield. The two trophies are considered the very highest honour that can be won by sportsmen in Ancharmunn and the two finals are amongst he most watched events in the country. Both take the format of knockout cup competitions with league competitions only just having been introduced at county level. These take place as the National Football and National Hurling Leagues and both are split in two divisions of eight. The 1099 season will be the first time that these as have been contested and are largely cynically seen as way for the GGA to make more money through the increased number of inter-county matches.

In terms of strongholds of the sports hurling tends to be more popular in the northern counties whilst football reigns supreme in the south. Given the unlikehood of Charmunnry geogrephy being high up on the curriculum abroad here's a handy county map to help you work out just which counties are stronger in which code.

International competition in the sports is a sparse affair with competitions only held intermittently. Recently however the GGA has joined forces with the Nova Cambrian Football League, a code of football known variously as 'Nova Cambrian Football' or 'Aussie rules' to resume the International Rules Series. The competition for the Dermot O'Hurley Kettle is a resumption of a tournament previously played between Nova Cambria and Sorthern Northland that plays neither Gaelic football or Nova Cambrian football, but instead a compromise of the two. Given the neither here nor there nature of the sport many hold reservations about it.

All-Ancharmunn Senior Football Championship

With twenty-three titles to their name Quillry are by far and away the most successful county in football championship history. However they've now gone a decade since last being declared All-Ancharmunn champions and following a surprise first round exit to Seersha their drought will gon on for at least another year. Whilst scant consolation, they at least went out to the eventual winners after Seersha's overcame Feeaknock with ease in the final. With just two titles to their name and now three sets of runners-up medals, the men from the capital county are perhaps football's biggest underachievers.

National Football League

Following their early Championship exit taking the inaugural National Football League crown will have provided some consolation to Quillry. Even so, a home defeat on the penultimate day to Knockaurgoose when a victory would have clinched the title saw questions asked about Quillry's current crop of players mental strength in pressure situations. However, that point was made moot, for now at least, given that Slievefreugh were Quillry's opponents for the final round. With a first round Championship exit at the hands of Curronbeg and not a single league win Slievefreugh have endured a woeful year as the only county to not win a single match.

In Division Two All-Ancharmunn finalists Feeaknock proved their mettle by going through the league campaign undefeated and securing promotion alongside Curronmore.

Where football's most successful team fell, hurling's stood up to the test and proved themselves to be the very best their code has to offer at the moment. Kreanard didn't have it at all easy either. The draw meant they had to beat the three counties immediately below them in the all time Championship standings, and each of those before the final. Curronmore, thrice winners though they are in relation made for easy opposition and it was little surprise when Kreanard overcame them with ease on final day.

The National Hurling League saw both divisions won with perfect records. In the top flight Na Hoileáin Órga made their title credentials clear as early as round two with an away win that included three goals against Kreanard. Their next title test came on in the penultimate round with the visit of second placed Garramairead. The islanders may not have got a goal that day, but they were able to keep the points ticking over enough to take the win and with it the league.

In the second flight Portackmona have some hurling credentials to their name with nine All-Ireland final appearances to their name, though they are yet to record an outright win in that competition. That probably and their league campaign probably says a lot for the level they are at, a class above the minor counties, but not on the same level as the big boys. How they fare in the league next season will be intriguing to watch.

The Football Commission of Aels marked its 30th league season with the announcement that Aels would be entering a national football team into World Cup qualifiers from the WC65 cycle, officially ending the partnership with Ancharmunn's National Soccer Board which allowed Ancharmunn to select Aelsh players. Mytanar Sergyei Arefev has been appointed manager of the national side, and Arefev has already begun work by scouting the league.

In addition, the league was expanded in the summer of 1099, with four new teams – Widdiring Royals, Slipton Town, Kermadec Rovers and Swant and Loftus United (colloquially known as 'S & L' or 'SLU') – joining the Second League. As a result, relegated teams Penfro Irish and Moulton Seasiders were both given reprieves, while there were unexpected promotions for Pontyport Athletic and Dovershore County. Trechoid AFC United also renamed itself AFC United Trechoid, to avoid confusion with Trechoid FC.

Drayfill City (now Dinas Drefhil) played in the league until 1074/5 before moving to the Charmunnry league system. The FCA are the governing authority for that club, who play in the Ancharmunn league and cup system, but an agreement with Ancharmunn means Drayfill City may only be nominated for international competition by Ancharmunn.

For the first time, Aels was afforded two Champions’ Cup spots. With the expansion of the top flight to 14 teams, Premier League sides now play each other thrice a season, down from four. The promotion and relegation system was extended to two-up, two-down, while the next two teams in either division qualified for a promotion and relegation play-off. Caerfremin Sundays officially remain an amateur side, and as such are not eligible for the play-off should they qualify or for promotion.

Before the season began, title holders Drayfill Town took part in the traditional preseason Tyneala Championship when they hosted Goidelic at the New Free Stone Stadium and retained the title for Aels with a 2–1 win.

Football League of Aels 1099–1100 season
After three years outside the top three, Pentref-ar-y-Bae finally made themselves heard again as they remained near the top most of the season. However Doverston surprised everyone, even themselves, by going on a long unbeaten streak as they lost only five times all season to set a new high mark of 90 points for the season (no team had ever managed 81 in a 36-game season, 71 the record). Defending champions Drayfill Town could only manage third, 25 points behind the runaway leaders. After a stay of execution last summer, Penfro Irish finished bottom again and they were relegated after four years in the top flight, joined by Moulton Seasiders. Imeall an Uisce and newly-promoted Llanislwyn Town finished in the relegation playoff spots, where the former were relegated on head-to-head results.

It was once again tight at the top of the Second League, though involving only the top two teams this time as AFC United Trechoid were promoted from Ynys-y-Môr by just two points. Caerfremin Sundays finished third and qualified for the SBCC but declined their place in the promotion playoff, meaning Spitalford Town and Trechoid FC took part. Trechoid FC were the beneficiaries, as they won promotion to the top flight (while missing out on an SBCC spot).

The overall league champion is the divisional winner with more points. If both divisional winners are tied on points, the teams will share the reserve league title. After a number of seasons lost to infighting within the Aelsh Rugby Union, its 22 member clubs have agreed to reform the league system in the country. The six teams previously in the Tynealan Unification League will now have to qualify for four spots in that league, pending Charmunnry agreement. The move will see the TUL become an eight-team qualification league towards international competitions.

The ARU Premier League – now sponsored by Stl-Blnd – will consist of eight teams and become the top flight in the country. The remaining 14 member clubs will form the ARU Stl-Blnd First League, with two teams moving between the divisions each season. Only the top four teams in the Premier League will qualify for the Unification League and play a total of 28 matches each season, while the remaining four teams will play no further rugby during the season and play just 14 matches. Teams in the First League will play 26 matches each season. Four points will be awarded for a win and two for a draw, with one tiebreaking point awarded for every match lost by 7 points or less. Tiebreaking points will only be used as a second tiebreaker, behind head-to-head results.

For the first time since 1095, Tyneala will see domestic cricket on its shores once again. A six-team first-class league has been set up, involving three Charmunnry sides (Ballyfeeaknock, Freeport and North-Eastern Counties) and the three Aelsh counties (Dovershore, Hilshore, Pwentshore),. The teams will play each other twice a season in the TynealAir League Championship.

16 points will be awarded for a win, 9 points for a tie, 6 points for a draw or no result and no points for a loss. Bonus points will also be awarded.

There will be no domestic limited-overs cricket for now as Cricket Tyneala attempt to reshape the game in the country.

Champions and runners-up are taken from the winners of the play-off final, third place from the losing play-off semi-finalist with the better record over the course of the league season.

If the last few seasons have suggested an eastward drift then the play-off picture this year saw the game of rugby league returning to it's heartlands. Ballyfeeaknock Northern retained the league leaders shield whilst Rimsyleanus Brewery and Rushmore Port in the two places below are both multiple champions. Though outside the typically regarded heartland, even An Hoileánaigh in fourth are very familiar with the playoffs. All of that doesn't however mean that the threat from the east has subsided, with Porthmageed from the borderlands finishing in fifth, whilst the two places below them were occupied by Aelsh sides.

Detractors of the play-off system point to how it can allow a team to not perform for large parts of the seasons and surge to the title on a late run of form, rather than overall consistency being rewarded. Ballyfeeaknock Northern however look to be doing their best to disprove that theory, as they followed up last season's double of league leader's shield and play-off victory with another such double. Even though they've only led the table by just one point last season and only on points difference this year, there are some claiming them to be one of the all-time great sides. Proof of that would surely come in repeating the feat for a third year in a row.

For the first time in it's five years the Province of Origin series has been retained. Machairster did so with what can only be described as a dominant set of performances. Whilst the first tie was a close one with just a single try being the difference, Machairster were well worth their comfortable 26-12 win in the second match. The pièce de résistance however came in the third and final match in which the already crowned champions not only kept their foes at bay but racked up 43 points.

1100 Tynealan Unification League

The Tynealan Unification League is the top level of rugby union competition in the Celtic Union of Tyneala (ie: Aels and Ancharmunn). As the only four professional rugby union clubs in Ancharmunn the provincial sides of Dyary, Machairster and Slievester along with the side representing the capital city Ballyfeeaknock will remain constants in the league. The four Aelsh entrants are decided by placings within the newly founded Aelsh Stl-Blnd Premier League.

A prime concern at the new structure brought into Aelsh rugby union was that a relative lack of games played by Charmunnry sides could prove to be a disadvantage and lead to an Aelsh domination of Tynealan rugby. Whilst still early days and talks of Charmunnry expansion to a similar system remain, the first TUL under the new Aelsh qualification ended in extraordinary circumstances. Going into the match there remained six teams in with a chance of qualifying for the play-offs, all of whom could also finish top of the table. As it went tiebreakers came into the fold and were needed to separate first from fifth. The play-offs then proved to be just as tight, with RFC Amman Glen setting up an all-Aelsh final with a single point victory over Ballyfeeaknock. The final was a similarly close affair with Twigham Wasps claiming a one score victory.

The 31st season of the Aelsh league saw political issues mar the national team's participation-cut-short in the Copa Rushmori, but the domestic season carried on without interruption. With Aels now receiving two Champions’ Cup spots, interest in the league is growing nationally and the FCA, keen to capitalise on this, successfully urged the ever-overachieving Caerfremin Sundays to abandon their amateur status and join the elite band of teams.

Drayfill City (now Dinas Drefhil) played in the league until 1074/5 before moving to the Charmunnry league system. The FCA are the governing authority for that club, who play in the Ancharmunn league and cup system, but an agreement with Ancharmunn means Drayfill City may only be nominated for international competition by Ancharmunn. Premier League sides play each other thrice a season, with a promotion and relegation system of two-up, two-down. The next two teams in either division qualified for a promotion and relegation play-off.

Before the season began, title holders Doverston took part in the traditional preseason Tyneala Championship but for the first time in a number of years the national title returned to Charmunnry hands.

Football League of Aels 1100–01 season
CCPD Penfro regained the crown they first won five seasons ago, finishing seven points clear of perennial top three finishers Drayfill Town. The capital club have not failed to finish in the top three since 1093–94, the last season to feature a six-team top flight, when they finished fourth. Defending champions Doverston could only limp across the line in third, missing out on a lucrative Champions’ Cup spot, while Pentref-ar-y-Bae once again slipped out of the top three, finishing fourth a further nine points behind Doverston. The final Globe Cup spot went to Pontyport Athletic. Llanislwyn Town, who survived a relegation playoff last season, had no such luck this year as they finished at the bottom of the top flight, where they were joined by Trechoid Wanderers. Trechoid FC, promoted last season through the playoffs, and Dovershore Rovers finished in the relegation playoff spots.

Caerfremin Sundays, the last amateur team left in the league, continued their stunning success in the Second League and were persuaded to turn fully professional by the FCA in order to win promotion. As a result, they will be known as Caerfremin Town from next season, dropping the "Sundays" moniker. Imeall an Uisce, relegated through the playoffs last season, finished third behind Moulton to guarantee a shot at an immediate return, while Spitalford Town finished fourth to ensure three of the four teams in last season's playoffs would return.

In the playoffs, the two Premier League teams came out on top, ensuring there would be no further relegation or promotion other than the direct changes.

1100-1101 Stl-Tak Elite Conference season

Following in the footsteps of their Aelsh counterparts, the rugby union authorities in Ancharmunn have gone for something of a reshaping of the sport within the country. As across the border the season will start with an eight-strong league, the Stl-Tak Elite Conference, consisting of eight Charmunnry teams. The top four will then progress on to contest the Tynealan Unification League with the best four Aelsh clubs of the season. In order to facilitate such an expansion a further four clubs have been founded in addition to the already existing provincial clubs, and the capital representatives. Ballyfeeaknock has been given a second club in the shape of the City Blues, whilst the additions of Ballymairead, Freeport Ancalites and Porthmageed Yambria sees some of the nation's foremost towns and cities represented by their own teams in additional to their provincial representatives.

Given their newly founded status none of the four new clubs were particularly expected to challenge. However each and every one of them were at least able to recruit well enough to remain competitive through the season, enough so that the wooden spoon went to recent Seasogs Championship semi-finalists Machairster. Porthmageed Yambria and Freeport Ancalites meanwhile secured their places in the top four and a shot at a début Seasogs appearance, whilst Ballyfeeaknock and Slievester keep up the old boys presence.

1101 Tynealan Unification League
The Tynealan Unification League is the top level of rugby union competition in the Celtic Union of Tyneala (ie: Aels and Ancharmunn). The league is contested between the top four teams in each country, as decided by the standings of the ARU Premier League and the Elite Conference for Aels and Ancharmunn respectively. Whilst qualifying for the TUL carries it's own weight of achievement the reward of Seasogs Championship qualification that the TUL allows for makes it one of the most sought after prizes in Tynealan sport.

Where last season saw perhaps the most complex final day in Tynealan sporting history, Drayfill Bulls had their final place wrapped up enough that they could afford a last round defeat, RFC Moulton also found themselves safely ensconced in second, whilst completing an Aelsh trio Twigham Wasps, though mathematically not certain of third had enough of an advantage to afford some comfort. The battle for the final Seasogs spot however remained competitive with all four Charmunnry teams remaining in the hunt. Ballyfeeaknock and Freeport held the advantage with 24 points, whilst Slievester and Porthmageed both needed wins to make it up to that total. A Porthmageed win over Ballyfeeaknock brought them level, though it wasn't to be enough, as a Slievester victory over bottom Amman Glen saw them move up from seventh to fourth and with it Ancharmunn's representation in the next Seasogs Championship.

The 1100 TynealAir League Championship cricket season was undermined by the weather, with no winner declared after seven matches were completely lost to nature and the teams agreed it would not be fair to award the championship. In the off-season, Cricket Tyneala put in hard work to redevelop the league, adding a new 45-over List A (one day) competition for the six first-class clubs in the country. From 1101, the teams will play each other twice in a league format before the top two take part in a final. The League Championship points format has also changed, with 17 points now awarded for a win, 9 for a tie, 7 for a draw/no result and no points for a loss. Bonus points have also been streamlined, with up to five batting and three bowling bonus points at stake depending on teams' first innings performances, while bonus points for margin of victory have been scrapped.

Cricket Tyneala is also pleased to confirm that following talks with its Apoxian counterpart, the Tynealan first-class league champions will play the Apoxian champions in a one-off match at the end of every season to contest for the Cricket Challenge Shield.

The inaugural first-class Cricket Challenge Shield match, held in Penfro between Pwentshore and Apoxian first-class champions Mountainshire over four days, ended in a comprehensive win for the hosts after Pwentshore won the toss and invited the tourists to bat. Mountainshire's batsmen struggled on foreign soil for the first time and were skittled in the morning session for just 99 in exactly 33 overs, meaning that if Pwentshore scored in the triple digits in the first innings they would win the title if the match ended in a draw. As it happened, the home batsmen took their time in building their score of 280 — scoring at just 2.5 an over — for a handy first-innings lead of 181.

There was still time on day two for Mountainshire to bat again, and they took to their task with gusto, scoring at a rate of over five runs per over to close the day on a healthy 235-4, no longer in arrears. Heavy rain on the morning of the third day lasted until tea, so only 28 overs of play were possible but it heralded a collapse of sorts for the visitors as they slumped to 298-8, losing 4-63 while scoring at just over two an over. It took only seven more overs the next morning for Mountainshire to be bowled out for an additional 30 runs as the last two pairs attempted to accelerate the rate of scoring.

Mountainshire therefore had a lead of 147, setting the hosts 148 to win if the weather held. Pwentshore, knowing a draw would be enough for them to win the Shield on account of having the better first-innings score, were keen not to lose wickets. The chase started off badly as they lost both openers for ducks with just four wides on the board, but their third pair settled things down and made it to lunch 82-2 without further loss. A slight acceleration after lunch saw a third wicket fall, but in the 17th over after the first interval the match was over as Pwentshore stormed home to 152-3 for a seven-wicket win and took the first Challenge Shield.

1102 season
For the 1102 season, Cricket Tyneala announced a reduction in points gained for a League Championship draw to five points, down from seven, and points for a tie to eight from nine. The other big announcement over the off-season was the future introduction of a four-team end-of-season Twenty20 competition, sponsored by Vidaak, known as the Vidaak Bash League. The top four teams at the end of the 45-over round robin campaign will qualify for the Vidaak Bash League, but the exact format of competition has yet to be decided and Cricket Tyneala has indicated the tournament still has a way to go before being launched.

The Aelsh clubs dominated this first-class season, with all three claiming the maximum possible 30 bowling bonus points and a nearly-100-point gap between Pwentshore in third and Freeport in fourth. The three Charmunnry sides could only muster three wins and seven draws between them, with 20 defeats.

The 32nd season of the Aelsh league coincided with Aels' first, and somewhat successful, participation in a World Cup qualifying campaign, increasing interest in the league dramatically. Overall attendance figures increased by 20% over the 1100–01 season and has sparked clubs to unveil plans for new, larger stadia. The increase in attendances has also led to an increase in unsavoury incidences, with reports that nearly 45% more ticket touts were arrested outside grounds this year compared to last.

Drayfill City (now Dinas Drefhil) played in the league until 1074/5 before moving to the Charmunnry league system. The FCA are the governing authority for that club, who play in the Ancharmunn league and cup system, but an agreement with Ancharmunn means Drayfill City may only be nominated for international competition by Ancharmunn. Premier League sides play each other thrice a season, with a promotion and relegation system of two-up, two-down. The next two teams in either division qualify for a promotion and relegation play-off.

Before the season began, title holders CCPD Penfro hosted the traditional preseason Tyneala Championship but lost on penalties, ensuring the title ramined in Charmunnry hands.

Football League of Aels 1101–02 season
CCPD Penfro successfully defended their title, but it was a close-run thing. CCPD Penfro and Doverston were neck-and-neck for much of the second half of the season as the latter overcame a 10-point deficit at the midway point after Matchday 18 to lead the table on head-to-head results over Penfro going into the final day, with both clubs on 73 points. Below them, Drayfill Town and Pentref-ar-y-Bae were locked in a battle of their own, both on 66 points and fighting to finish third.

And the two battles were unavoidably linked: CCPD Penfro would have to play Drayfill Town on the last day of the season, while Doverston faced an easy trip to already-relegated Pontyport Athletic and Pentref hosted Moulton, themselves also already relegated. Penfro had made things difficult for themselves, but they weren't going to give up without a fight, thrashing Drayfill Town 4–0, a result which meant Pentref needed only a point to finish third, while Doverston had to win. Pentref did what was asked of them with relative ease, dispatching the Seasiders 3–0, but Doverston tripped up at the last, and smallest, hurdle as they went down 2–0 and gave Penfro a lucky escape with the title by the skin of their teeth.

At the bottom, newly-promoted Caerfremin Town, who had dominated the Second League for many years, finished a creditable 13th — but in the relegation playoff zone on head-to-head behind Trechoid FC. Perennial underachievers Dovershore Rovers joined them in the playoff. Pontyport Athletic suffered the ignominy of relegation just a year after qualifying for the Globe Cup.

The Second League had a slightly less tense finish than the top flight, as Imeall an Uisce sealed the title on Matchday 37 with two games to spare. Even defeats in their last two matches saw their winning margin close to only four points over Trechoid Wanderers, who battled Aels Welsh to the final day for the second automatic promotion spot. Spitalford Town joined Aels Welsh in the promotion playoff. In the playoff, Dovershore Rovers' form finally deserted them at a crucial time, as Caerfremin Town's last-day win over Aels Welsh coupled with a draw between the Rovers and Spitalford meant that the Premier League new boys would stay up, while Dovershore were doomed.

FCA Trophy
Dinas Drefhil continue to be excluded upon request of the club. A third-place playoff was re-introduced this season to take advantage of the increased fan interest. The Second Round draw, the first to include last season's top two league and cup teams, threw up a repeat of last year's Cup final, which Dovershore County won. It was their first win on a run to a second straight final, and they would face five-time league winners Pentref-ar-y-Bae. However, they triumphed, becoming the first team to successfully defend the Trophy since CCPD Penfro in 1093. In the all-Second League third place match, S&L beat league cellar dwellers Kermadec after extra time.

National Reserve League
The FCA have announced that the National Reserve League will not be contested in the foreseeable future, but instead a new rule will be introduced for the FCA Trophy requiring clubs to name at least four under-20 players in their matchday squads of 18 in each match. Pentref-ar-y-Bae, the only club to have won the reserve title twice and the last holders, have publicly supported the FCA's stance, but Dinas Drefhil are understood to be unhappy as it was the only FCA-sanctioned competition they still participate in.

1101-02 Stl-Tak Elite Conference season

Whilst still early days, the first impressions of the expanded Charmunnry game is that it's expansion has gone a great deal to freshen it up. After Freeport Ancalites won the league in their first season, Porthmageed Yambria have claimed their first title to keep the trophy out of the hands of the old guard, Freeport meanwhile were not far behind them in second. The final two TUL spots meanwhile were taken by two of the old sides with Slievester keeping their hopes for another Seasogs campaign alive. Dyary, traditionally the weaker of the provinces meanwhile take the final TUL place ahead of the capital on points difference.

1102 Tynealan Unification League

The threat of Aelsh domination was what moved the Charmunnry Rugby Union into expanding their game and this season gave merit to their move. The season was a wonderfully competitive between sides from both Ancharmunn and Aels right to the wire. Going into the final match of the league season top would host second with the league shield and a place straight into the play-off final up for grabs. RFC Moulton would beat Freeport Ancalites 26-14 to keep the table topping honours on the Aelsh side of the border for a third season in a row. The Ancalites however were given the second chance of the play-off semi-final and with home advantage were seen as the favourites in an all-Charmunnry clash. An absorbing tightly contested encounter however went the way of the visitors by a single point. Porthmageed Yambria then sprung another surprise on away turf in the final to complete what has been a very successful second season for the Baysiders.

National Football League

Whereas last year the league campaigns were scattered across the entirety of the year, the GGA made the decision to have them held entirely in the springtime as a prelude to the All-Ancharmunn Championships. It appears a move welcomed by all with no long breaks for interest to be lost in, whilst the almost pre-season nature of it gives teams the chance to blood in new players ahead of the summertime Championship. Both divisions were won with perfect records as Quillry retained the top tier with only the slightest of opposition. It either looms for another victorious Quillry summer, or the other counties saving themselves for later. In the second tier Slievefreugh put last season's winless annus horribilis behind them to record victory in all seven league matches and in doing so should head into the summer full of confidence.

All-Ancharmunn Senior Football Championship

Following their unbeaten league campaign Quillry went into the Championship as the odds-on favourites, however their summer was quickly brought to an end in the quarter-finals by Knockaurgoose. Quillry had it seemed peaked too early, whilst Knockaurgoose, a meagre fifth in the league had saved their best for the summer. Standing in their way however was the Urbanites in the shape of Feeaknock. The men from the capital were making their second appearance in a row, whilst for Knockaurgoose it was an eighth football final. Worryingly for the two neighbours, both counties have lost more finals than they've won. Backed by a ferocious home support Feeaknock though were able to draw their final wins and defeats level in such a one sided final that it is unlikely to linger long in the memory.

National Hurling League

Kreanard and Na Hoileáin Órga are the undisputed kings of hurling and the two put on an early firecracker of a match having been paired together for the second matchday. Kreanard took the bragging rights that day in a frenetic match in which they just, just, managed enough points to overcome a late Na Hoileáin Órga goal. Over the course of the league though it would be the Islanders who had the last laugh, claiming the title by a single point, a fourth day draw with Curronmore was arguably where Kreanard lost it. Down below Portackmona and Quillry both made immediate returns to the top flight following relegation last season.

All-Ancharmunn Senior Hurling Championship
The summer's hurling very much saw the establishment keep their place at the top table. Of the four semi-finalists, the three most successful hurling counties were all there. The fourth most successful, Feeaknock arguably would've been as well had they not had the misfortune of meeting Na Hoiléain Órga as early as the first round. Knockaurgoose did threaten to upset the applecart somewhat, though despite managing a goal they were unable to find a past Coshtaherd. Na Hoileáin Órga did however, almost with unnerving ease as the Islanders carved up a score double that of the Bordermen in hurling's showpiece event.

1101 National Football League and All-Ancharmunn Senior Football Championship

National Football League

Avontalaff's status as one of the pre-eminent footballing counties is a long one stretching back to the very first All-Ancharmunn Senior Football Championship. The 1033 season ended with them beating Garramairead 2-15 to 2-6 in those halcyon days of the sport. They have since gone on to lift the Colm Maguire Chalice on a further fourteen occasions, though the most recent one was back in 1094. Two more recent final appearances resulted in defeats whilst the early National Football Leagues have seen them finish as runners-up on both occasions. No more however amidst claims that Avontalaff football is back. An opening day 3-15 to 1-8 victory for reigning champions Quillry over Avontalaff may have seemed to have set the template for another season of Quillry dominance. It didn't though. Avontalaff bounced back to beat Seersha by six points in the following match and won every match thereafter. Quillry meanwhile picked up two losses, to Knockaurgoose and Seersha and for the first time the League title heads not to the south-east, but to a bordering county in the south.

At times Quillry can appear an unstoppable footballing machine. Whilst they may have lost their league crown this year they still hammered the majority of teams they played in the league. It's not for nothing that they are football's most successful team having won the Championship more than twenty times in little over seventy years. This summer again their superiority reigned supreme as they smashed their way past Na Hoileáin Órga and Feeaknock in the early rounds. Up next was an intriguing semi-final with Avontalaff. For once Quillry weren't favourites, springtime success had handed that mantle to Avontalaff, though only slightly. The closeness of the odds was proved by the match, one that was an exhilarating end to end affair that Quillry would eventually win by a goal. The brilliance of both sides was recognised with both being given standing ovations off the field. Given the excellence on display and the history of the two counties, for many it would be the spiritual final. Quite possibly a good thing given how much of a damp squib the actual final proved to be. Following a tightly contested first-half Seersha blew out and Quillry cantered to an eventual nine point victory and a 24th meeting with Colm.

1101 National Hurling League and All-Ancharmunn Senior Hurling Championship

National Hurling League

Though still early years in the competition Na Hoileáin Órga have already taken a stranglehold to the National Hurling League. That isn't too say it didn't have it's moments however. Much excitement was had on the final day with three teams in a position to win, two of them playing each other. Na Hoileáin Órga went in in pole position by in having to play third placed Garramairead would have a task on their hands. Coshtaherd meanwhile had a seemingly nailed on win against bottom placed Feeaknock. As predicted Coshtaherd did indeed overcome the Urbanites, though only by a three point margin. All eyes were on the north-west, but sadly Garramiaread failed to turn up to the fullest of their abilities as Na Hoileáin Órga showed their class to put a seven point win into the record books and claim another league title.

This was a hurling championship that regularly saw high scores, starting with Garramairead's 5-25 5o 0-9 thrashing of Curronbeg in the summer's opening matches. From there teams racking up multiple goals and scores going into the high-twenties or even the thirties were a common occurrence. It was somewhat ironic then that the final managed to produce no goals, though it was no less entertaining for that. Kreanard with just 2 defeats in 19 prior final appearances tend to put on masterclasses at this stage whilst Garramairead are themselves capable of turning on the style with hurley in hand. Given Kreanard's finals record that was exactly what they were going to need to do to stand a chance and it was exactly what they did do. Kreanard themselves played some masterful stuff, and yet on the day were second best. Already many of the Garramairead players have attributed the victory to a 'once-in-a-lifetime' performance. Whilst they're a good enough team to be making finals soon enough again, they are probably right in that this was a performance as good as they'll ever put in.

The 33rd season of the Aelsh league coincided with a bold FCA World Cup hosting bid which was ultimately unsuccessful, but raised levels of interest in the league to never-before-seen standards, with stadia selling out weeks in advance and an improved television deal which the league negotiated with Aels Television Radio.

Drayfill City (now Dinas Drefhil) played in the league until 1074/5 before moving to the Charmunnry league system. The FCA are the governing authority for that club, who play in the Ancharmunn league and cup system, but an agreement with Ancharmunn means Drayfill City may only be nominated for international competition by Ancharmunn. Premier League sides play each other thrice a season, with a promotion and relegation system of two-up, two-down. The next two teams in either division qualify for a promotion and relegation play-off.

Before the season began, title holders CCPD Penfro travelled to Ancharmunn to play Sortheners in the traditional preseason Tyneala Championship, and won the national title back into Aelsh hands.

Football League of Aels 1102–03 season
After the excitement of a last-day finish last season, the Premier League was far more one-sided this year, with defending champions CCPD Penfro not challenged for the championship as they cantered to a 13-point gap over runners-up Pentref-ar-y-Bae.

Newly promoted Imeall an Uisce, whose last top three finish in the top flight was ten seasons ago, had a successful first season back among the big boys as they finished third ahead of Hilshore County on head-to-head results to seal a Globe Cup spot, while just one point behind in fifth were Doverston, last year's runners-up who had come so close to the title and fallen at the last hurdle.

Caerfremin Town found themselves in the relegation playoff zone for a second consecutive season, leading some fans to question if the club should have forsaken its amateur roots for promotion and short-term financial gain. Two of the three Trechoid teams found themselves propping up the table as Wanderers and FC were both relegated.

The race for the promotion spots in the Second League was tight. While Brackendale Charmunnry eased to a title win by six points from Spitalford Town, Town and newly-relegated Pontyport Athletic were locked on 68 points at the end of the season, with Plaidstone in fourth on 67 and fifth-placed Goldcliff Rangers missing the playoffs by just two points. Moulton Seasiders had a second horror year in a row, finishing dead last of the entire system by a clear 14 points.

In the playoff, Caerfremin Town's two-year stay in the top flight came to a premature end much to the disgust of many a supporter as they finished last. Ynys-y-Môr, who had finished 12th in the Premier League, survived comfortably with an unbeaten playoff run of three wins and three draws, while Pontyport Athletic put their relegation behind them and sealed an immediate return to the top flight.

Dinas Drefhil continue to be excluded from the FCA Trophy upon request of the club. Drayfill Town confirm shock swoop for Richard
DRAYFILL— Aelsh captain Elwyn Richard will finish his career at home after a shock move to Drayfill Town was finalised today.

The 35-year-old, who began his career at Imeall an Uisce, moves back to the Aelsh league after more than a decade playing for Iturributa United, with whom he won five league titles and one President's Cup.

Drayfill Town finished a disappointing eighth in the Aelsh Premier League this season and were understood to be looking for a short-term option up front.

An enquiry was made to Iturributa United and a transfer agreed on the spot for an undisclosed amount.

Richard, who is expected to take part in the next World Cup cycle for Aels in an international swansong, is said to be considering taking his coaching badges at the New Free Stone.

1103 season
The Vidaak Bash League, a new Twenty20 end-of-season tournament, was finally introduced by Cricket Tyneala beginning in 1103. The inaugural competition was contested by Hilshore, Pwentshore, Dovershore and Freeport, who finished in the top four of the season's Stl-Blnd Challenge 45. The VBL is a double round robin, at the end of which the top two teams contest the final. The two finalists qualify for the Champions T20.

In the League Championship, a draw is worth five points, a tie eight, and a win 17. Aelsh clubs continued to dominate the first-class season, with all three claiming the maximum possible 30 bowling bonus points. The gap to the Charmunnry clubs closed this season, with 64 points between Dovershore in third and Freeport in fourth.

Pwentshore regained their title this season by a narrow nine points.
