Announcement from the NPO

Postby Karpathos » Fri Aug 16, 2013 9:44 am

An Announcement from the New Pacific Order

Image

VERDICT OF THE NPO SENATE VS. SENATOR MILOGRAD
On August 13th, 2013, the NPO's private Senate Committee and hearing regarding ex-Senator Milograd and his future in The Pacific concluded. Milograd was tried for a CCS303 violation, with The South Pacific Socialist Republic being the subversive organization in question, and was found guilty. Milograd will be restricted from regaining high government office in the New Pacific Order for at least six months, and will not be allowed to return to the Senate until that duration lapses and until he issues a sincere apology to The South Pacific for his conduct. During his sentence, he will be expected to perform community service in The Pacific for at least 150 days.

Signed,
The NPO Senate

Interesting development. Seems to be the correct level of punishment. Not too lenient but not too hard.

I am pleased with the verdict.

It's good to see Milograd labeled for what he is, a criminal. His actions in The South Pacific were inexcusable and I hope to see that this guilty verdict completely eliminate any influence Milograd has in The Pacific both for six months and after. Simply put, he can't be trusted. He has no respect for GCRs, laws, and was more than willing to bring his UCR buddies to prop up him up for a boring, cheap laugh.

I am curious to what a CCS303 violation is and what community service he has to do?

No idea about the community service, but a CCS303 violation is treason/membership in a subversive organization.

Question; at what point will TSP stop caring about Milograd and let him be wherever he wants to be in the game without raising a fuss about the immoralities and hypocrisies of his new home?

Milograd did great damage to our region and should be held accountable for whatever crimes he committed in The South Pacific and in other regions such as The Pacific. I like to see this as just celebrating what is a fair conviction. Besides, this is one of few times when we have referred to Milograd since the immediate aftermath of his coup, so I wouldn't think that we are in such a situation that we should stop caring about him. Save occasional comments we have stopped caring about him but cannot ignore what he did and how he should be held responsible for it.

Not exactly. I wanted to quit at one point after the coup because everyone was taking it personally and the game didn't seem like much fun, but I was talked out of it by the same people responsible for it after they issued apologies to me.

I then ended up leaving two months later for a long trip, and returned immediately after getting back home.

301: Seeking many endorsements without permission or breaking the endorsement cap.

302: Assisting those seeking many endorsements without permission.

303: Belonging to a subversive organization.

304: Engaging in counter-revolutionary activities and/or providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

Community service will be determined by Senators on a case-by-case basis. Milograd will be given certain tasks and asked to complete them (i.e. recruiting, sending out TGs, working with new citizens/players, etc). It will also include traditional Praetorian Guard duties without promotion. Also, all titles and honorifics Milograd has received in his tenure in the NPO are stripped for the probationary period, and will be restored to him upon successful completion of the terms of his sentence.

To those who are decrying our decision for being too lenient, you only show your ignorance of how things work in The Pacific. If anything, the Pacific is a meritocracy, positions and titles are earned through hard work, loyalty, and dedication. The rank of Senator, for example, takes YEARS to achieve. Very few people have had the honor of being a Pacifican Senator. Losing that rank, even temporarily, is a pain few know in this game. Milograd made a mistake, yes. Was the damage permanent? No. B&N was wrapped around GV's finger for WA votes after Milo was deposed, but no one is running around still asking for his head. The only people who have any standing to even react to our statement is TSP, and they have signaled their approval of how the matter was handled. This is the process for any Senator accused of coup'ing a GCR; a closed hearing, and public statement of the outcome. This is a courtesy. We are not required to explain our processes to you.

Nationstates is like that. Some take it too personally, but usually it doesn't last. Unfortunately, there are some that never let go.

And my compliments to The Pacific on a well measured verdict.

Broadly, however. Would it be a group against the South Pacifics' views, a raider organisation, or such otherwise?

Considering that it's only been four months since Milograd's regime came to an end I'd hardly say that that we've been pursuing him for very long, even assuming that we have been. However, this is very much an internal NPO matter; TSP was informed some time ago that Milograd would be facing trial, and has probably been slightly more informed about the progress of this than most, but we were not involved in the process and did not place any undue pressure on NPO in regards to the matter. We found out the result of the trial at the same time everyone else did.

It's nice to know that the NPO can label whoever they want to as a "subversive organization" and thus harass groups that they dislike.

Also, under 304. Wouldn't that apply to every single person who endorsed Milograd? Because If I remember correctly Karpathos (under the nation of Lint Roller) himself was a vocal supporter of the South Pacific Socialist People's Republic.

If this is true, then why does Karpathos continue to hold high office in the NPO while Milo has been demoted? Or does the NPO only ever punish members etc. to maintain their facade of respectability to the world?

That is patently the case.

The NPO tacitly supported Milograd's disgraceful behaviour while he was doing it (of course they attribute this to the rogue actions of some individuals, but if that is true then their leadership must be weak and incompetent). Now it serves their interests, he is offered up as a sacrificial lamb. This is all an act.

If it is not an act, presumably Karpathos will be facing imminent sanctions.

The South Pacific are justified in taking issue with Milograd but the NPO's conduct on this issue is rank hypocrisy.
