I find it offensive that I have to submit the name of my race in various legal documents, whether it's school papers or test exams, there is always that one box where it asks,

What is your race?
*White
*Black
*Hispanic/Latino
*Asian
*Other

What gets even dumber is that these state tests ask specific questions like "Are you black or latino?" WHAT? Are they profiling? It's obvious. Sad to say, statistics do show that majority of black and latino score low. But they want to know that information so they seek it, racially. And they shouldn't.

Oh, here's where it gets annoying. Apparently, in California, they like to ask what asian or hispanic ethnic group you are, but they alienate white and blacks.

They ask, if your asian if you're korean,japanese,chinese, etc. If you're hispanic, it lists if you're cuban,mexican,etc.

But they never asked if you're german,dutch,irish,scottish,english,french if you're white or you might be ethopian,nigerian,egyptian if you're black or african.

I am "mixed race" and I don't like to claim such a title and it's really really hard to answer these stupid questions. Why do they need to classify me by my skin color or genetic ancestery. Why can't everyone be known as a human?

The point is, this causes more discrimination, plus people are more and more diverse everyday. They'd have to be asking for every little racial or ethnic group then.

It just so happens that in most Asian-Americans, there seems to be more ethnic homogeneity than most white or black Americans. My friend is Filipino and Chinese. I am likely German, English, Scots-Irish, Irish, Swiss, and God only knows what else.

Well, the point of a lot of these things is to create a descriptive database and collect accurate statistics. Even if race is a social construct and shouldn't matter, it has mattered in the past, which is why having descriptive statistics is useful.
