The president of the Collegiate Sporting Alliance has just pointed out that while we did a perfectly fine job of posting the 1772 regular season results, we completely forgot about the national championship.

So here you go.

#3 NW Sumbobor 1–0 #14 Seibeng
#7 Jishmid 2–1 #10 Flaarickug
#2 Darnai 4–0 #15 Sirinis

Quarterfinals

#1 Military 1–3 #9 Defae

Lancish Super League Season 1: Playoffs: Semifinals

FC Lildoy 2, Ecterka 1
FC Lildoy’s run through the playoffs took an unusual turn tonight in Ecterka as the Lildoyans triumphed in a classic upset over the higher seeded team. Ecterka struck first on a singularly amazing effort from Xarka, who made a tackle on Bruno, and ran 15 yards to make the goal. Robby Swift equalized it for FC Lildoy in the 34th minute on a pass from Puffin. Finally, in, with only 17 minutes till full time, Forward LD, who is shaping up to be FC Lildoy’s hero, scored to put the game away for the four seeds, who will advance to championship.

Pljevla FC 1, Bunkar ILS 0
In an unsurprising result, Pljevla FC thoroughly dominated and outplayed Bunkar ILS. The game was somewhat uneventful until the half, when Bunkar made a concerted effort to score, but where turned back twice by GK Ray Gijon. Then, just ten minutes after the half, Lwethu H., a national team stalwart scored the game winner for Pljevla FC, who advances to play FC Lildoy in the championship.

Taça de Uiri Qualification

The Taça de Uiri is the cup of the Liga Uiri and qualification for these play-offs is determined based on the 32 regular season games. As such, the standings at the top of the post give a pretty good idea of who is where. That being said, the clubs who have qualified are the top eight or:

FC Tório
Mergul OAF
Arel CF
Tação CD
CF Alea
SC Movim
CS Colhi
Dorin CS

The quarter-final matches shall be the following:

FC Tório vs Dorin CS
Mergul OAF vs CS Colhi
Arel CF vs SC Movim
Tação CD vs CF Alea

Finalists will both qualify for the TakilQuip Cup. The semi-finalists who do not make the finals and the team with the best regular season record who did not qualify for the semi-finals will qualify for the Globe Cup.

Season 19

There was no traditional season curtain raiser, the AFF Challenge Trophy, for Season 19, as Ad’ihan had hosted the World Cup tournament and the semifinals and third place playoff were treated as the curtain raiser.

Protectorate United continued their domination at the top of the United Islands Premier; their sixth straight league title and their ninth overall in 19 seasons ensured this team would forever be in Ad’ihani domestic football folklore. Three teams finished tied 11 points behind the Protectors; Oldbridge City, Hatton Town and Grand Arsenal finished in that order on goal difference.

CF Mont-Pluie completed the signing mid-season of Ad’ihani internationals Danny Evans and Francis Doyle from the CMSC2 side Cathedral City, but it was only enough to help lift them out of 11th place to a finish in 9th. At the bottom, both promoted teams survived — Flitton City on goals scored — as T’chéy Park and Northtown United went down.

In the second division, Flitton Rangers won by 13 points from Olympique Protectorat, ensuring both relegated teams from last season would make it back up, and setting up a top-flight Flitton derby for the first time in many seasons.

Week 1 of the second season of Una Serie de Futbol kicked off and there were scalps to be taken from the offset as last seasons 1st and 2nd placed teams played each other in the opening week.

Pythons 3 – 1 Skyte City
The champion’s kick-started their campaign as title holders by comfortably defeating league rivals Skyte City. An early goal from last year’s top scorer Ishmael Van Dyke put Pythons ahead after 16 minutes. 5 minutes before half time the deficit doubled as Karim Zaki out jumped everyone in the box to nod home from a corner. The Skyte defence seemed to be crumbling as a speculative shot from outside the box hit the back of the net in the 58th minute. Pythons midfielder Tim Wilcox found space around the edge of the box as the defence backed off and powered a right footed drive into the top corner easily beating the outstretched palm of Fabien Fabianzki.
Skyte pulled back a consolation goal in the 82nd minute when Gabriel Simeone’s shot took a kind deflection and wrong footed the Pythons keeper.

Ridgemont Town 4-2 Royal Khaldoon
A stunning display from Ridgemont’s attack saw the triumph over Royal Khaldoon at home. 2 goals for Joe Carrol, one for Luke Weatherall and a late strike for substitute Tom Smith put Ridgemont firmly in the driving seat.
2 late goals for Royal came too far in to the game for there ever to be a come back on the cards.
World Cup winner Tom Smith arrived in Queer Poco from Candelaria and Marquez looking to add more winners medals to his cabinet and this superb win over Khaldoon suggests his quest for gold may yet prove to be fruitful.

“It’s great being here and being given another chance at glory before I retire. There were offers from all over the World but Ridgemont seemed like they shared my desire for glory.”

Augustus 2 – 1 Almondvale
The youngsters on display outshone their experienced counterparts as Augustus began the campaign on the winning foot. Two goals from Mustapha Rehman were enough to secure the points despite Almondvale taking the lead through a Seb Guardiola free kick.
Augustus rallied and with an average age of just 20, out performed their opponents as they went in search of an equalizer. Rehman headed home after a brilliant piece of work by Hugo Anderson on the left.
A late lunge on Rehman gave Augustus a penalty, which Rehman brushed himself off and wrong footed the keeper.

Athletic Khaldoon 2 – 0 Valengren Kickers
A poor performance on both accounts saw Athletic luck their way to three points. Two particularly shoddy displays were compounded by two fluke goals as the Kickers defence gave away three points. Firstly Craig Jones benefited from a short back pass and the second came about as Alan Pope cleared for a corner when under no pressure. New boy Nigel Speed headed home at the near post on his Athletic debut, and fired a remark back at his old team Real Minanda.

“I was stuck in the reserves for years at a team that was going nowhere, now I’ve got a debut goal for a far better team.”

Real Minanda 0 – 2 Port Los Renato
A fine display from PLR was capped when former Royal Khaldoon academy forward Lionel Vega bagged a brace. At 21 Vega is still young enough to improve and the possibility of first team football should aid that development.

“He looked sharp up front and is more than enough to replace Edmundo.”

Commented PLR coach Alex Rowley. A statement that only time will tell the plausibility of.

Barbossa 0 – 0 Jonastown United
Newboys Jonastown picked up a point in their first Una Serie de Futboll game and were it not for the brilliant goalkeeping of Rick Olsen United could have taken all three points.
Foreign forwards Carlos Borges and Alexis Berklas were unlucky, both forcing fantastic saves from Olsen.
Barbossa looked poor from the back right up to their front two and struggled to get a foothold in a game they could have lost.

Code: Select all
Season  Champions                   Runners-up               Third Place

1   Stanley University         Markham University       Banks Theological College
2   St. Martin Medical Inst.   Moorcroft University     Markham University
3   Prifysgol Gymraeg          Bradley University       Stanley University
4   Bradley University         Prifysgol Gymraeg        St. Martin Medical Inst.

Once more we reach the day of reckoning for the universities, colleges and sundry educational establishments with the fifth West Zirconian Academic League. It is, incidentally, the first such championship where Moorcroft and St. Martin can field full university teams, with the departure of Moorcroft University (now playing as Mount Vernon) and St. Martin University (now playing as Etruria) from the National League.

Did that make any sense at all? Thought not. Anyway, on to the fun.

Once again, there was no real pacesetter, though Prifysgol Gymraeg showed that the past two seasons were no fluke, keeping within touching distance of leaders Snaith Maritime College. The two stayed level, with the Welsh University only breaking away at the very end to win with a match to spare.

Code: Select all
Pos  Team                            P   W   D   L   GF   GA   GD  Pts
   1  Prifysgol Gymraeg Caernewydd  22  14   5   3   56   36   20   47
   2  Snaith Maritime College       22  13   4   5   44   24   20   43
   3  St. Martin Medical Institute  22  10   4   8   47   40    7   34
   4  St. Mark's College, Mort Park 22  11   1  10   48   54   -6   34
   5  Markham University            22  10   3   9   43   37    6   33
   6  Moorcroft University          22   8   8   6   43   37    6   32
   7  Banks Theological College     22  10   2  10   49   50   -1   32
   8  St. Martin University         22   9   2  11   49   55   -6   29
   9  Stanley University            22   8   2  12   34   42   -8   26
  10  Bradley University            22   7   5  10   38   49  -11   26
  11  Eastham College of Technology 22   5   4  13   41   51  -10   19
  12  Redwood University            22   5   4  13   37   54  -17   19

So the three IUCC qualifiers are Prifysgol Gymraeg Caernewydd, Snaith Maritime College and St. Martin Medical Institute.

[Sort-of-OOC note: In the unlikely event that they reach the spacially-challenged group stages, Prifysgol Gymraeg (literally, Welsh University) is the preferred abbreviation.]

LOCUST Football Championship [Pre-IUCC XVI]

Right, let’s not beat about the bush this time around, shall we? In what is now almost absolutely very definitely certain to be the final League of Candelaria University Sports Teams’ (we still like that acronym, whatever anybody says, so it’s going nowhere) football championship under the current, venerable format (because it wouldn’t be college sport without us fiddling with the format for no apparent reason every few years, now would it? Not to mention the !&%$*£ tables) we… er… can’t work out how to finish that sentence.

A reminder of previous recent qualifications, for no particular reason other than that we felt like it.

IUCC X – 1) University of Vo; 2) Bove University
IUCC XI – 1) Gassett College of Sports Development; 2) Universidad de Castillo; 3) St Mary’s College, Albrecht
IUCC XII – 1) National Maritime Warfare School; 2) New College, Albrecht; 3) Allemali University

IUCC XIV – 1) Arrigo Harbour, UIGA; 2) Gassett College of Sports Development; 3) Universidad de Melin
IUCC XV – 1) National Maritime Warfare School; 2) Allemali University; 3) People’s College, Albrecht

International University Challenge Championship 16 presented by Radio Ad’ihan International

First, the simple matter of deciding which of the two bids, one from Taeshan and one from the Academy Sporting Association of Paripana, would win the rights to stage the 16th edition of the International University Challenge Championship. Five groups of 30 people were signed up by the IUCC Executive board and made separate trips to both bid nations, before voting amongst themselves on who should win the right to host. The bid with the most mean votes won the right.

Voting Group 1 voted 24–6 in favour of ASA (Paripana).
Voting Group 2 voted 16–14 in favour of Taeshan.
Voting Group 3 voted 16–14 in favour of ASA (Paripana).
Voting Group 4 voted 24–6 in favour of ASA (Paripana).
Voting Group 5 voted a 15–15 deadlock.
The final average was 18.6 to 11.4 in favour of ASA (Paripana), and the Commerce Heights–Columbia metropolitan area will play host to the best schools from around the world.

Pre-IUCC16 coëfficients
With the release of the pre-IUCC16 coëfficient comes little surprise, as Vephrese schools continue to dominate in group stage play and keep the College Sporting Alliance at the top of the rankings. The one change in the top four comes with Dancougar and Ad’ihan swapping second and third, with the former moving up one spot. Candelaria And Marquez improved slightly to retake sixth in the coëfficients from West Zirconia.

ooc: christ its been a long time since I've written anything. My brain has seized up...

Silexhera Professional Association Football League
SEXPAFL both a silly abbreviation and a slight misnomer

Members of the Silexheran Football Association (SEXFA) finally got round the table last night to work out the system for Silexhera's new football league, creating the sister-federation SEXPAFL in the process. The following teams have been allocated spots in the league's inaugural season:

Athletic Sporadia FC
CC Cancri
City Academicals FC
CF Internacional de Pantera
Negressi Forest FC
Oca Mariners FC
Silica City AFC
Sparta Silica FC
Spelunker Sporadia FC
Wasteland Frontier FC

Season one of the SEXPAFL begins in earnest on October the first albeit with one slight problem: none of the teams are actually fully professional yet. The perceived weaker teams, such as Spelunker Sporadia, Oca Mariners, CC Cancri and Sparta Silica have no professionals on their books, whilst the others only have one or two - either younger players they want to hold on to or guys on the national team's books.

Nevertheless, everything is going ahead as planned, and whats got everyone talking is the proposed Creation Tournament in September. A team each from Cafundeu and Dancougar have been invited down to Silexhera to help kick the league off and more entrants are expected. The SEXPAFL are still in the throes of inviting the teams.

The tournament will have a qualifying phase to decide which two out of six SIlexheran entrants will get the chance to play against the world's best. There will be two groups of three, with one Silexheran team in each group. The teams play each other in their group once. The winners of each group play each other in the final, the runners up play each other in the third-place playoff and the bottom teams play each other in the 5th/6th playoff UNLESS either the 3/4 or the 5/6 playoff would pit two Silexheran teams against each other, in which case the better scoring Silexheran team of the two would be put into the 3/4 playoff against the better scoring foreign team. It's not entirely fair but, hey, its a friendly tournament.

More info to come soon.

¡Tenemos libertad! ¡Y un...laptop! ¡Y, y, y nuevos programas que funcionan! ¡Y Alianza Ciruelas ganó contra Yuba Unida! ¿Qué es esto?

Let's back up a little...

International competition

The agogos and tamborims weren't enough to help out Corinthian Spirits, who lost to CA Condadore in the second TQCC preliminary round. AC Mineros drew their second leg 1-1 at the Porcupine Palace (possibly), but the 2-0 lead in that matchup had been taken by Alexandria. Deportivo Peralta won 1-0 at home to edge past the X Island Marauders...perhaps frustrating for their fans, but they should be taking whatever they can get. Over in the Globe Cup's newest wonderfully-named round (though I'm being redundant), San Pablo defeated Telecontarë--you know the, um...really good Starblaydi club. Shut them out, in fact. Wow.

They then blew a lead against the Orthopedists, but Arcrés Millos held on against Ventspils Redwings. CA Condadore defeated Ousevale Borough, while Alianza Ciruelas began their international campaign with a 3-3 overall draw to Folenisa. Supersub Frascuelo Periate scored the extra-time winner, and repeated the feat against the Atlantea Hurricances. CA Condadore needed no such fireworks, beating Cimnersog Town 5-0 over two legs.

And so, just like that, Aguazul shed its label of "best association never to make the TQCC group stage" (granted, nobody called us that, but okay) and then some. There was more to come, though; Deportivo Peralta rolled over Rizzi College to make the SBCC group stage.

Arcrés Millos needed penalties to edge out Sargossan dynasty Ciudad Soluca, but Jorge Mateos wasn't effective and Francisco Patiño's kick sailed wide. Arcrés Millos defeated the Liventian Dover City, while Estudiantes de Íguen lost to Sokojiʼwa Dosi CK.

So to the group stages. Deportivo Peralta went winless, but denied AA Benoîtville a perfect group stage. CA Condadore earned themselves a couple of places in the record books, right down there with Trecelunas FC. And Alianza Ciruelas?

Placed in the Group of Teams That Are There Every Time, the mission was clear: defend for all they were worth against the big two, attack against Psychiatrists, and fight for third and the Globe Cup knockouts. That actually did happen, but not before Serafín Pacheco scored the goal they still haven't shut up about.

One goal was the difference for Arcrés Millos in the very competitive Group K. There were plenty of them, in fact, including an entertaining 5-2 victory over AC Quarant Xa'virt. When the dust settled, though, they were through to the knockouts. While they held Seoan Gukjei to a scoreless draw, Alianza Ciruelas defeated Qidade Savana. But Lii Hyo-Jin and Ryu Jones' goals sent Seoan Gukjei through, and Roje’das came back to win the aggregate 6-5. Where's Roberto Herthavan when you need him?

The season
                     W D L GF GA GD Pts
San Pablo 10 5 3 35 25 10 35 C/TQCC
Arcrés Millos 7 8 3 29 24 5 29 TQCC
12 de noviembre 7 6 5 30 23 7 27 TQCC
Mapabore Juventud 6 7 5 22 21 1 25 GC
Alianza Ciruelas 6 6 6 20 20 0 24 GC
CA Condadore 4 11 3 22 21 1 23
Estudiantes de Íguen 5 6 7 16 20 -4 21
Trecelunas FC 4 7 7 19 24 -5 19
Piratas de Grisolon 3 9 6 23 27 -4 18
FC Nacional 3 5 10 22 33 -11 14

Okay. So, San Pablo are really good.

Despite somehow contriving to finish with a negative goal difference on the road, 23 goals at home more than made up for it. They never scored less than two in any home match, and only CA Condadore and Piratas de Grisolon managed draws there. The dynasty lives.

Because following up a title-winning season with a 6-6-6, 0 GD, fifth-place campaign is just the thing to do, you know? Alianza Ciruelas are probably not possessed, but couldn't buckle down. Otherwise qualifying for the international circuit, we have...Arcrés Millos, also undefeated at home. And then things get just a bit weird. Who better to take advantage of our new coëfficients than 12 de noviembre? Another golden boot for Isidro Carbajal, and just a bit more defensive solidity, vault the Ciudagua side into third place. Then come Mapabore Juventud, who nobody knew had more than survival on their minds. That'll show 'em.

Farther down, CA Condadore played more like a normal football team if not a particularly good one. Maybe it's OpenOffice? As usual, we'll waive the third Globe Cup spot, probably over Ilsinha's complaints. Estudiantes de Íguen scored three goals on the road and two goals for Trecelunas FC; when you defend as much as these two teams do, accidents happen. Piratas de Grisolon managed to be the only team to finish with a positive goal differential on the road, where they beat FC Nacional and drew everyone else. And FC Nacional are last. Coming up with functional ways to arbitrarily assign points to promoted teams really is easier when there are two of them at a time...but there's still hope. Specifically, when it takes me three tries to get the style modifiers right, and FC Nacional win over San Pablo 3-1.

It wasn't that flukish. They also beat Piratas de Grisolon. And, um...CA Condadore?

Even farther down, Unión de Ciudagua won the Apertura, with Fábricas in second. They're both nominated to the SBCC. Estadio Paridos, Mapabore (34,000) bids for the Globe Cup final. Moacom will bid for SBCC sponsorship, with its wordmark "MOACOM" in Botoni font (or anything in the family) and a light blue color.

Anyone. New associations are allowed to enter their top two clubs in the TakilQuip Champions’ Cup, three more teams in the Globe Cup, and four second-division teams in the Samseong Series B Champions’ Cup.
