Which does not make him a good man or a good ruler. He severely damaged the Red Army, threatened peaceful neighboring countries, terrorized the general population, made an alliance with the Nazi government thus enabling them to focus their energies along other fronts with impunity, and murdered hundreds of thousands of political dissidents, ethnic and religious minorities, and members of other groups he disliked. He was hardly better than Hitler - and, as though I need to say it, Hitler was not the epitome of goodness and love and competence. I won't even start on Lenin... In short, totalitarian dictators ARE NOT people we should idolize or seek to emulate.
