Backstory:
In 2051, a mysterious race known as "The Destined" entered the milky way, from the Andromeda galaxy. The Destined attacked all sentient life in the galaxy, until they reached Earth. The humans of Earth put up an astonishing fight, and this lead to many similar defeats of the Destined across the Galaxy. The Destined were defeated, and the sentient races of the Milky Way, who at the time were stuck to their home planet, and possibly their moons, reverse-engineered The Destined technology, and across the known Galaxy fleets of space-faring ships were created. They had all inherited traits from the Destined ships, such as Warp Drives, Pulse beacons and Artificial Gravity.
Now, almost 150 years later, it is 2201 AD, the beginning of the 23rd Century. The sentient races have expanded to their solar system, and empires are beginning to emerge. For the time being, there is somewhat an era of peace. But that will not last. Without a common enemy or purpose, the emerging empires of the Milky Way will soon find their way to war. However, while many believe that the Destined were defeated, they were only halted. Temporarily.
OOC:
Starborn is a space faring alternate nation rp. The goals of your nation/species can be anything from military supremacy to making as much money as possible. However, at certain points your nation will be attacked by the Destined, and eventually the entire Milky Way will be attacked by a massive fleet. No one in the Milky Way knows that the Destined still exist, and at the beginning of the rp species only know that their species and the Destined have ever existed.
All empires start with a limit of two solar systems, and they have a limit of 10 planets. Your species can be anything, an existing species from a sci-fi film or a completely new one, but new ones are recommended.
There are two ways to expand in Starborn, you can colonise new worlds, or purchase/conquer worlds from other species. Colonisation is most common at the beginning of the game, and it generally better in the long run. Gaining worlds inhabited by other species is usually problematic, firstly you have to assimilate the native population, and there is generally a high chance that they will revolt.
Planet Types:
There are five types of colonisable places.
Tier 1 Planets: These planets are barren wastelands, either deserts or mountainous ruins. They are rich in minerals, but do not harbor life and food must be grown elsewhere.
Tier 2 Planets: These are planets which harbor life, but only just. They are similar to prehistoric Earth, with highly toxic atmospheres where only the strongest of creatures and plants can live. They are partially rich in minerals, and have many undiscovered medicinal plants and animals. Sometimes they also harbor recreational drugs.
Tier 3 Planets: These planets are Earth-like. They harbor life, possibly sentient, and are perfect for crops and cities. They are rich in food, and have little minerals. If they have sentient life, then slavery is possible.
Moons: Satellites which orbit planets. They can sometimes harbor life, if they orbit a large enough planet such as a gas giant, as are usually rich in resources, and fuels such as gas and oil.
Asteroids: These are smallish moon-like planets which sometimes orbit stars. They are usually only useful for research stations, but some have minerals.
Resources:
There are different resource types, which can be gained through either primary extraction or trade.
Minerals: How do you build things? With minerals! These are building materials, such as metal.
Lumber Wood can be used for buildings, but mostly it is useless unless you use bio-fuel.
Food: Species need to eat, and food can be perfect for that.
Drugs: Both medicinal and recreational drugs are used, the former for healing and the latter for enjoyment.
Slaves: While some species outlaw slavery, many use it.
Fuel: You think spaceships run on thin air? You need fuel! Most species use coal or oil, but some use solar power or wind energy.
Ship Rules:
Each planet provides 15 mid-sized ships (40-70km), 5 battleships (71-90km), one Super-battleship (90km+) or 30 small ships (<39km.) for a regular race.
For each of the following, increase the amount allowed per planet by 5 for mid-sized, one for battleships and 10 for small ships- Facist, Militarist, Imperialist, Expansionism, Crusades or Nationalism to increase this.
Decreased by the same amount for- Anti-military, Pacifistic, Isolationist or Anarchism.
Each race also has a standing fleet which is equivalent to the same provided by two Planets.
Fleet-based civilisations must have enough ships to carry the entire species and all other attachments. This can number up to 250 ships, but only 9 can be Battleship-class and only one can be Super-Battleship class. Of the remaining 240 possible ships, only up to half can be mid-sized ships.
