Except where indicated, all players made their international debuts in the World Cup 48 qualifiers.

Manager: Cristian Delgado

Defenders:

14. Neron Taffarel (12 de noviembre)
15. Pitin Rojas (Piratas de Grisolon) 1 international goal

Midfielders:
6. Peyo Alarcón (Atlético Insular, Cafundéu) 10 international goals
7. Sergio Bustamante (Atlético Jutense, Cafundéu) 3 international goals
8. Miguel Rionda (Arcrés Millos) (captain) 4 international goals
9. Alvaro Sáez (Deportivo Soluca, Sargossa) 5 international goals
17. Emilio Guaman (Cathedral City, Candelaria And Marquez) (First tournament: WC49Qs) 2 international goals
18. Pedro Sanchez (Deportivo Peralta) (First tournament: CoH 41)

20. Cosme Chavira (Piratas de Grisolon) (First tournament: CoH 40) 2 international goals

Forwards:
10. Naike Leiva (Sporting San Marquez, Sargossa) 11 international goals
11. Rubén Saavedra (América, Cafundéu) 22 international goals
21. Gunsedal Cisneros (Qasarian City, Somewhereistonia) (First tournament: WC50Qs)
22. Chale Cobarrubias (Piratas de Grisolon) (First tournament: WC49Qs) 3 international goals

Formation: a winged 4-4-2, though variations are likely. The typical starters are numbers 1-11, also known as those not in italics. But it'll probably be slightly different each time, whether I RP it or not, so feel free to tweak that as you see fit. Defenders' and midfielders' numbers read left-to-right; that is, Villalobos is a left-back and Sáez is a right-wing. As far as the forwards go, Saavedra plays farther in front and is more likely to actually score the goals.

Aguazul goes right on ignoring conventional wisdom and plays a fairly attacking (+2) style.

Our home games will be played in various stadia around the country.
MD2 vs. Barnettsville: Estadio Sobresa, Ciudagua (48,000)
MD4 vs. Azadmenistan: Estadio Cinilago, Ciruelas (25,000)
MD6 vs. Kelssek: Estadio Aramis Peralta, Ciudad Peralta (68,000)
MD9 vs. Vilita: Estadio Taturgo, Trecelunas (45,000)
MD11 vs. Westmeadow Tavern: Estadio Paridos, Mapabore (34,000)
MD12 vs. Tyrrin: Estadio NioRadio, Grisolon (40,000)
MD14 vs. Binary Load Lifters: Estadio Arcadio, Sanube (36,000)
MD16 vs. Delaclava: Estadio Moacom, Arcrés (55,500)
MD18 vs. Geisenfried: Estadio Conabora, San Pablo (50,000)
MD21 vs. Slaytesics: Estadio Cochaucho, Ciudad Peralta (25,000)

The team's kits are made by Ekin in Aguazul's very own sweatshops.
Home: dark blue as per flag
Away: dark green as per flag
Third/goalkeeper: gold as not per flag

My opponents, if they RP first, can do whatever they want.

Postby The Mice of Miceland » Sun Feb 21, 2010 3:46 pm

National Association of Recreational Football (Miceland)

Team Style: +1

Team Manager: Pinksford HeadMouse
Couch:Brian TeamMouse

Strikers:

#12 Richard LionMouse - Club: MouseCentral United

Richard LionMouse is one of the best striker's in Miceland, he usually has a very direct approach but he's got very good footwork so if you're not 'on the ball' so to speak he'll wrong foot you, get in behind you and score a goal. He is a very honourable mouse on the field and tries his best to keep a clean sheet. While he does on the occasion slip up, afterwards he feels as if he has let down the team. This applies to off field circumstances as well.

#16 Peter YellowMouse - Club: Beachside FC

Peter has a rare family trait, he's totally yellow. It's been passed down the family through generations often one even 2 generations before re-appearing. Peter obviosly had a hard time in school and took sport as an escape. He's very touchy about the colour and if there's even a hint of people being colourists (as he likes to call it) then he gets all worked up about it. This can cause some rather unpleasant situations but for the most part the team, especially with his fellow striker whom they have a friendly competitive thing going on.

Midfielders:

#25 Hector von DresdenMaus - Club: Grassland AFC

Having settled in a German speaking land for some time Hector von DresdenMaus is one of the few Mäuse in Miceland. The family has kept some german traditions including some of the german sausages and speaking with an out-rageously incorrect German accent. Though he is a very good midfielder fast and a strong understanding of tactics from countless hours training as a youngster.

#29 Renée GupterMouse - Club: MouseCentral United

Renée is one of the females of the team, and she is not French and she goes to great measures to make that point. Despite being in the same club for years and a close personal friendship with Richard LionMouse they share no romantic interest though they are often the subject wild rumours on this subject.

#24 Frederick RassMouse - Club: Rasstern FC

From an old and prominent Miceland family Frederick has been disowned because of his decision to become a footballer expressly against the wishes of his family. Despite this he still has a myriad of personal contacts and businesses of his own (even not-so-secretly owning the Rasstern FC club. Though the operations are handled by the FC's board to avoid any operational bias. He is wealthy and is at least known amung the upper echeleon of Miceland society.

#28 Damien GibMouse - Club: Underhill City

Having a city in a cave seems odd, but it's such as good a location as any other and for Damien it was the perfect place to learn football. He started playing with small pebbles slightly larger and oddly shaped for a soccer ball. The pebbles are much harder and heavier than traditional footballs and so on doctors advice he took up the sport as replacement. He soon found he had tremendous kick and passing abilities

Defenders:

#36 Michael DisneyMouse - Club: HappyPlains United

HappyPlains is quite an idealyc spot lush green grass one thing it's good for is playing football, and coming from there Michael had an early education in football. Despite being a very happy and personable bloke both off and on the field. He's not afraid to take you done if you threaten the goal but he doesn't do it with any kind of malice after all the HappyPlains area is known for it's soft grass.

#32 Trent LoveMouse - Club: HappyPlains United

Something is just weird in HappyPlains, and it's name is mope, or mouse dope. A drug that does not affect humans in any way shape or form but is practically the same as it's human cousin in every other sense but for mice only. This was discovered by Trent LoveMouse, and when smoked it generates lot of smoke. Trent LoveMouse is a walking mouse smokescreen.

#35 Danielle RedMouse - Club: Clifftop AFC

Danielle's family aren't named for their colour their named for their fiery passion, everything they do they do it passionately. Red is the colour of passion and this is her name, unlike the previous defenders Danielle is fiery in her defense she takes out those in her way with passion and is the teams most yellow-carded player of the team. She has been remoured to have been intimate with all her teammates even Reneé but everyone publicly denies this. She is a great defender and don't you dare get on her badside or otherwise she will give pain.

#33 Robert FredMouse - Club: Beachside FC

Taking the standard mice playing football asside, Robert is fairly boring, nothing really makes him standard out fairly average in most ways not too goody, not too bad not an amazing defender, but good enough to seal a place on the team. There is no single attribute where Robert is signficantly different from the standard. If anything could be said about he's a nice guy if you get to know him, and that's about it.

Keeper:

#42 Charles EarsMouse - Club: Clifftop City

Charles has extremely large ears and is able to control them in a limited way as an additional set of hands. The big wind catchers can not only help him fill more of the goal but they also help him determine where the ball is and what is happening to it through Trent's mope haze.

New Newspaper! What a Roster!

After a great World Cup last time, at least by post-Timmons standards, the Milchama Warriors decided to keep the same format as last time for their roster. The coach Thomas Markin said, "It's a great group of guys and I really think we can do some damage this time around. If we don't make, at least, the quarterfinals I think it'll be a real disappointment." So now the roster:

The Babbage Islands World Cup 50 Roster
Edited after qualification for general update including ages!

Nicknames: Bumblebees, Islanders
Colours: Yellow and black

Manager: Ganz Ijak
Style: +2.5
Formation: 4-2-3-1 or 4-6-0

Starting lineup

No Player Age Pos Club Caps/Goals
1 Solveig Þorsteinsdóttir 30 K South Side AC 31/0
2 Carl DiFilippo 25 D Four Towers 28/1
3 Wilhelm Freudigmann 33 D A.F.F. (Cafundéu) 68/3
4 Phyllis Reeves 28 D América (Cafundéu) 37/2
6 Pierre Rouleau 34 M Stroudsburg Panthers (Newmanistan) 66/5
7 Orson Cook 24 M América (Cafundéu) 68/16
8 Tegan Nash (captain) 27 M Clube Comercial (Cafundéu) 53/15
11 Patty Heatherly 25 M Bloomfield National 58/19
14 Chang Weigu 29 M Papar (Jesselton) 45/4
19 Debbie Sherman 22 F Bloomfield National 38/16
21 Matt Chauvin 23 D Tyrrin Royale (Tyrrin) 17/0

The starting lineup in the World Cup tournament is now playing in a 4-2-3-1 instead of a 4-4-2. DiFilippo and Chauvin are stay-at-home fullbacks, with Freudigmann and Reeves providing the central defence. Rouleau and Chang are the central midfielders, able to go forward for a six-player attack or drop back for a six-player defence. The heart of the attack is the three forward midfielders, with Cook and Heatherly on the wings and captain Nash as a forward playmaker with attacking skills. One striker, Sherman, is in the box. If Alder starts in Sherman's place the formation morphs to a 4-6-0 with Alder in the hole and the front four adopting a mobile, no-striker style.

Pre-tournament commentary

Keeper: Solveig Þorsteinsdóttir, third on the depth chart for the Svoboda Cup, graduates to #1 with the retirements of Nathan Taylor and Averill Robinson. Her backup is Sporting Boulder veteran Michael Turner, making his first national team appearances.

Defenders: One Ganz Ijak surprise in this squad is the naming of Four Towers defender Carl DiFilippo to start along with WC veterans Wilhelm Freudigmann, Ed Sims, and Phyllis Reeves. Former starter Whitney Anderson will bring a veteran presence if substitution or replacement is needed, and Donald Pearson and Matt Chauvin are both capped players as well. Anderson and Sims are both injured and unavailable for the World Cup. Matt Chauvin now starts; Jerry Kirkpatrick and Noah Marshall have been called up as replacements.

Midfielders: As always, the Bumblebees will rise or fall in the midfield. Pierre Rouleau is the legendary veteran, Orson Cook and Patty Heatherly are the speedy young wingers, and captain Tegan Nash is both a world-class playmaker and an inspiring leader. Chang Weigu could start for all but a double-handful of nations; he's #5 here. Bobby Moss and NT rookie Melinda Wood round out a deep group.

Strikers: The death of Magnus Svoboda has cast a question mark at forward. Ijak has paired Tony Martin and Erik Hebbeler up front, and moved Debbie Sherman to third amongst forwards in a surprise shift. Christian Janneteau is also widely expected to get serious minutes. Four Towers' Timothy Reynolds has important club-level experience and a few caps, and Martha Bishop, the 23-year-old heir to Svoboda at Dover City, makes her WC debut.

Manager: With a credible World Cup debut and a sound performance in the Svoboda Cup, Bumblebee manager Ganz Ijak has put a solid stamp on a rising team. The World Cup Hall of Famer has selected an older, more seasoned squad this time around, and they clearly expect to be in the hunt to qualify in their own right.

Home Away Third

Manager

Daugar Massimo
Age: 17,437
After long and prosperous managerial records at Hondo FC and Green Island of the CMSC, Massimo has been appointed the manager of the national team. Much in the mold of Jaime Kuu, Massimo likes his wingers to play an aggressive style, peppering the keeper whenever the opportunity presents itself. The appointment of Massimo also brings back the emphasis on the attacking nature of the Marauders, hopefully not at the expense of the progression the side had made on defense under Narmolanya.

Assistant Manager

Gilmeluon Werlothas
Age - 12,864
A strong and steady second in command who looks to be the liaison between Massimo and his squad.

Keeper

2 Lona Taldel, Club ESF ~
Age - 682
Sex - F
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 158 lbs
A trip to the semifinals last tournament was enough to salvage her spot but with Massimo reportedly ready to make any moves neccassary to get the team the title, she will have to be extra careful not to lapse into her unpolished ways of 47 and 48.

Defenders

17 Hanutaut Lilithian, Tenderville United (Nethertopia/C&M)
Age - 596
Sex - F
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 154 lbs
Agile and a superb little bit of tackling skill are her best attributes and she uses them well to confound attacking players into making plays that they would rather not.

12 Dwier Titenburg Jr, Albrecht Turkish (Candelaria And Marquez)
Age - 411
Sex - M
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 162 lbs
Despite his tender age, he is undoubtedly the heart and soul of the entire defensive side of the equation. He leads by example and through words of wisdom that an elf his age does not often show. He has proven to be very much his father's son and then some.

29 Thankanion Elenelwa, Green Island (Candelaria and Marquez)
Age - 594
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 180 lbs
A strong and physical presence that will put some bite into the backline alongside Titenburg.

Midfield

24 Espy va Drake, Albrecht Turkish (Candelaria and Marquez)
Age: 711
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 159 lbs
va Drake has slowly become something of a folklore hero of those obscure footballers and for much of the country. His rise to prominence and amongst the best in the world at his craft has given them hope that they can do so as well. Green Island continues to be a miracle worker for the winger, as his finishing in front of goal has become demonstrative, making him a total player, great on either end of the pitch.

21 Aintôrthea Durosa, Cafundó do Juta (Cafundeu)
Age - 722
Sex - F
Height: 5"10"
Weight: 144 lbs
Durosa is one of those players that can play just about any position, as her skill set is vast and adequate in multiple areas. She has done exceptionally well in her CMSC seasons, nabbing goals and assists with regularity, but she plays more of a holding role on the national team, as compared to a winger or withdrawn striker with the GIZ. With her good knowledge of va Drake's typical playing patterns, the two have proven to be a devastating pair for the opposition to contain.

14 Laborious Hawk, Petardos S/A (Cafundeu)
Age - 675
Sex -M
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 213 lbs
Words do not even began to define his talent, his talent defines words. He was awarded one of the spots that the Vanorians have in the World Cup Hall of Fame, with it being very well deserved, as he has and continues to earn everything he has been given every single day.

13 Aranyan Lithtauré, Rolalas FC
Age - 782
Sex - M
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 167 lbs
An agile and aggressive winger from another of the capital's many clubs. Unlike most wingers, Aranyan is not a superb crosser of the ball, but he has a wicked shot from long distance as well as the ability to create things out of nothing on the outside of the pitch.

28 Faeron Soldarian, Raynor City United
Age - 589
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 163 lbs
His skill, his heritage, his heart, there is nothing about the eldest Soldarian son that you would not like. He wears his heart out on his sleeve, and is probably better for it, as he is the spiritual leader of the side. What Hawk might do for the mental state of the team, Scott equals that in getting for the spirits up. All in all, he is simply a world class footballer and person, one that children across the world can aspire to emulate.

Strikers

6 Allandren Fresco, Atlético Jutense (Cafundeu)
Age - 464
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 167 lbs
Fresco proved once again that he is suited for any role that his managers wish to give him, easily sliding into the starting striker role alongside Hearts. A great shot and football IQ make him a very dangerous attacker for the Marauders.

11 Lucas Hearts, Hondo FC
Age - 848
Sex - M
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 153 lbs
Hearts is an out and out goalscorer who has a nose for the goal and a talent for getting open even in a crowded box. His skills work quite well with the skill set of Fresco, and look to produce a lethal one two strike force that will put fear into the hearts of those teams that must face a hungry and determined Marauders squad.

Represnting Pays de Horreur is a cavalcade of our many freaks, monsters and footballing attractions.

Coach – Eorl Vandenbussche. A steady component of the team, present for the last three qualifying attempts. Has lead the team from 183rd in the World to 66th.

Assistant – Malcolm MacDowell.

Goalkeeper. 1. Montavarious D. Delph. Don’t let the decomposition fool you, this zombie goalkeeper still has great reflexes. Plies his trade for Raccoon City F.C.

Right back. 2. Sebastian Craine. Plays right back for Woodsboro, notorious axe murderer known just as well for his rough tackling. Craine likes to play rough and isn’t adverse to picking up a card or two throughout the season.

Left back. 3. Winston Heckler. First choice for the Haddofield Town replaces the former wingback Arthur Crowe. Firm tackler and a good distributor of the ball.

Centreback. 4. Orgo. For an 8ft centreback he has sublime ball control skills he is also ideal for defending corners. The national team captain has a great footballing brain inside his massive head and can influence a game from the back.

Centreback. 5. Val Pringle partners Orgo at the back. The Haddofield Town player is more insane than criminal, he once shaved a horse. His defensive style is equally erratic, he is prone to moments of brilliance then moments of sheer atrocious football.

Left Midfield. 6. Kevin Thorn. Ambrose County shining star. It is often remarked he “got all the good bits” when created in Dr. Caine’s lab. Fast, agile and a fantastic crosser of the ball, his only downfall is his poor defensive capabilities.

Right Midfield. 7. Horace Burnam. Depending on the time of day and the lunar cycle he’ll either be in wolf mode or as a man. Pacy winger and a great dead ball specialist.

Defensive Midfield. 8. Percy Smithers. Percy used to dress up as his mother, just another reason why she had him committed. The Kassel Rangers midfielder is tough tackler who adds some bite to an otherwise attack minded midfield.

Attack. 9. Lester Crabtree. Was a beacon of light during PdH’s previous qualifying campaign, brings with him a lethal eye for goal and a class touch. The Los Sangre de Dios star striker is looking to shine for his country once again, maybe manufacture a move from the overwhelmingly poor PdH league.

Attacking Midfield. 10. Raven Noir. Rechristened after recent vampirification, Raven is a classy attacking midfielder and the team’s only vampire representative. Unpopular with his team mates who find him a little too flashy.

Attack. 11. Christian Harris. Partners Crabtree upfront as he does in the league. A much smaller and compact attacker than Crabtree, he has plenty of pace and decent ball control.

Subs.
Gkp. 13. Forrest Whitman of Woodsboro
RB. 14. Baxter Stoch of Bailey Downs F.C.
LB. 15. Meurl of Crystal Lake Victoria
CB. 16. Keith Brannigan of Haddonfield Town
CB. 17. Wesley Winkle of Raccoon City F.C.
RM. 18. Dr. Barry Malmouth of Valentine’s Bluffs Rovers

Stadium Pitch
Due to An Blascaod Mór's hilly terrain, there is no where flat for a football pitch so the team play their games on the neighbouring island of Beiginis. Getting across to Beiginis though requires a ferry first of all to An Blascaod Mór before getting a dingy across to Beiginis which means the trip cannot be done if the seas are very rough or their is a bad storm. In these circumstances the team play their games in the village of Dún Chaoin (English name: Dunquin), the nearest village in Sorthern Northland and the place from where the ferry to the island departs.

RPing notes

An Blascaod Mór is a tiny nation which is proud just to represent itself on an international scale *insert further clichés here*. Even a 7-0 thrashing will be deemed a success if someone who had never heard of the country before learns of it (and the local pub is good, even a clean sheet or a goal will merit a national holiday). All 143 citizens of the island will be following team and will be about as load as 143 people (minus the 18 players and manager) can be. Neutral fans are also welcomed with open arms by the ABM support. A relatively large number (roughly 2,500) of Sortherners will also travel to away matches to support their neighbours.

The nation also leads a perhaps primitive lifestyle lacking things such as roads (and therefore all forms of transport except donkey and boats), TV's, computers and electricity and the like. This is not to say they are unaware of these things and find them foreign as they can be found easily should an Islanders visit the Sorthern Northland mainland. The players will though find big city's and playing in a ground that is more than just a patch of grass a new experience. Although seeing as they've (the majority of them at least) played in a couple of World Cup qualifying qualifiers (with some notable results including a 1-0 victory at home to Zwangzug, holding Candelaria And Marquez to a 1-1 draw at home and a 1-0 victory of The Archregimancy) and at the Olympics and a number of them play for the An Blascaod Mór team in the Sorthern Football League they might be used to proper football grounds by now and thus not find them the best thing since sliced bread. Though seeing as they all bake their own bread they don't have sliced bread.

Manager - Toomas Ergma (Somewhereistonia) - After a miraculous turn of events that allowed the Bears to salvage an

otherwise dreadful Cup of Harmony performance (fast becoming a trend for Toyur), Toomas Ergma has gained back

almost all of the prestige that he lost in his short time on the job, at least within the borders of the Imperium.

Back to square one, many would say, when it comes to what the faithful think of the Somewhereistonian. World Cup 50

will be the 4th go of it for the Bears, and Ergma faces an uphill battle for respect from many within Toyur. As

long as he has it from his players, however, he should have the strongest chance yet for any Toyuri side.

Manager: Níal Ters; Ters replaced Glem Dalá on the onset of the World Cup 47 final tournament. Although, like his predecessor, he lost every game of the final tournament he nevertheless continued to manage the team. He achieved qualification for World Cup 48, at the top of the team's group, and then managed to win the first game in a final tournament of a world cup in the history of the Second Empire's National Football Team. He failed to get the squad qualified for World Cup 49, and later suffered an early exit during Cup of Harmony 41. However, he has been kept for World Cup 50, under the hope that he will equal his earlier successes.

Squad Listings:

Kofi Ferst (21), Goalkeeper: Kofi Ferst is a very young, new goalkeeper for the Imperial squad. He was recently brought to the Fedala Imperials senior squad, from their youth squad, as their own starting goalkeeper.

Díendar Shost (31), Goalkeeper: Díendar Shost is a secondary goalkeeper. He is quick, intelligent and is known to “stand in the right place”. Being tall, he is also good at stopping balls in the airs, including protecting against high-ball corner kicks into the area. This makes him one of the most powerful youth goalkeepers available. His first international game was in the tenth Di Bradini Cup, with the national under-21 football team. This will be his second World Cup appearance.

Yan Jíer (21), Goalkeeper: Jíer is a young goalkeeper who currently is a second-string goalkeeper for Fedala Imperial. He has been brought along with the squad as a sorts of "keeper in training". Although young, he is extremely talented although his place as starting goalkeeper was taken by Kofi Ferst, who has become a prodigy.

Sas Samuel (23), Wing Back: Samuel is a new wing back, who will fight for his first World Cup on the Imperial's senior squad. He is very fast, and is very good at connecting with the midfield and offense. He is also one of the best young defenders of the Second Empire, quickly earning a place on the national senior team.

Corné Touré (22), Wing Back: Another new, young addition to the squad, he is part of the "future" team which will be formed during World Cup 50 and fully unveiled during World Cup 51. He shares much of the same quality as Samuel.

Bur Xetal (32), Wing Back: Xetal is fast, smart and an extraordinary defender. He can assist in the tasks in the midfield, and is good with connecting with strikers on top for quick counterstrikes. He is a valuable asset in the counter attack, and is known for extremely lethal accuracy when it comes to assisting a striker for a goal.

Kel Kanis (29), Wing Back: Kel Kanis is not only an excellent youth right-back, but he is also one of the best set-piece kickers of the under-twenty-one national team. He has the uncanny ability to drop a ball right into the area, on top of a “friendly player”, making him extremely dangerous when playing on the wings. He is, however, very susceptible to moving up front, sometimes sacrificing his defensive awareness. He can also play as an attacking midfielder.

Ladis Berk (34), Center Back: Ladis Berk played for Port Tenacious, as is one of the nation’s best young center backs. He is more experienced than most center backs of his age, and has good speed, easily earning him a spot on the national team. He recently was awarded a contract by Eastport United. This will be his last international tournament.

Nantes Fersas (31), Center Back: Nantes Fersas is much like Ladis Berk, but younger. He is a promising youth player, and will reportedly be brought up to the first division by next season. However, his agent has been looking for an international outlet. He proved an illustrious U-21 player during DBC 10 and was thus called up for the national team. This will be his final international tournament with the Golden-Whites.

Agin Kal (29), Center Back: Beginning as an inexperienced defender he has become one of the best centerbacks on the team. He is smart and fast. He is also a fast learner. He has been recently contracted by the Fedala Imperials for roughly eight million Ríokmarks, making him a relatively expensive youth transfer. He is one of the nation’s great future promises in defensive football. He participated in two previous Di Bradini Cups, and two previous world cups.

<two center backs needed>

Sergi Bert (33), Defending Midfielder: Sergí Bert is the common starting defensive midfielder; he is a young, talented midfielder. Replaced Dertish Malfor in this position after this player's death. Sergí Bert played for a semi-professional team outside of the official league system. During World Cup 47 he showed his talent and was contracted by SC Lasft.

<One defending midfielder needed>

Tritor Maníac (29), Attacking Midfielder: Maníac is Gert's (27) replacement, designed to give fresh blood for future generations of Macabee National Teams. He is quick, intelligent and is also an excellent set piece kicker. He is currently rogue for World Cup 47 and looking for a team, although rumors persist that he has been contacted by several Macabee teams.

<three attacking midfielders needed>

Víeb Tahol (31), Center Midfielders: Víeb Tahol plays for Royal Club Española. Víeb Tahol has grown to be a common starter on the national team, although during World Cup 48 he was in competition with José Santos for the starting title. He is again an important asset to the team and will see a lot of playing time during the qualification stage.

Guy Lafos (31), Central Midfielder: Lafos is a playmaker, and is able to control the speed of the game. This makes him the team’s premier youth midfielder, and also a promising candidate for the regular national team. He took part in the 10th Di Bradini Cup, and also has been called up for the senior national team for the Díenstad Cup. This will be his second world cup.

José Santos (29), Central Midfielder: José Santos is Uiric by birth, but due to Macabee laws which allow dual citizenship for those of Macabee ancestry, José Santos decided to apply for citizenship and play for the Macabee senior squad. He originally began his international career in the Uiri Under-21 National Football Team. He is intelligent and a good playmaker, and he is likely to be used as a frequent replacement for the squad starters (or even start himself, in some matches). He is the first foreign player to ever play for the Macabee National Football Team (or, more accurately, the only player born abroad).

<two central midfielders needed>

Darsí Bon (29), Striker: A young striker who was long-ago promoted to the main team from Illusqué’s youth club. He is intelligent and fast, giving him good qualities to break away from the defense. This will be his first World Cup appearance, although he had previously played internationally during the Di Bradini Cup. He is known as Mika d'Angíel's replacement on the team.

Daví Seismont (21), Striker: Young, but powerful and agile, he was the youngest player to ever be called up for an international tournament. He participated in the qualification for World Cup 49, and then was called up for Cup of Harmony 41. At the latter, he showed his talent for goal and guaranteed a spot on the squad for at least all upcoming tournaments.

First in the world going into World Cup 49, the Black Wings had all the tools they needed to leave a mark on the tournament. And coming off a third place finish in the previous edition, there was a real hope that they could get back to the semifinals and challenge for the title. Three group stage victories were encouraging, as it was the first time they'd ever taken nine points from nine. Except then those blasted Big Blues beat back the Black Wing barrage. Candelaria and Marquez were on their way back to the final, and in order to get there, they had to dispatch the Wings in the Round of 16... so, they did. So much for leaving a mark!

To make matters worse, a large portion of the roster was made up of players in their upper twenties and early thirties, so they've faded out of the international spotlight for this edition. This means that Lyle Dylandy's sophomore campaign will hinge on the success of several international debutants and a few seasoned veterans as he aims to get the team into the knockout stages for the sixth straight time.

RP PERMISSIONS

Players roleplaying first may choose my goalscorers, hand out yellow and red cards, and report injuries. Do not report injury severity; I'll decide how long they're out. I also request is that you limit the sum of injuries and cards to four, unless your own team suffers more, in which case you can blast me as many times as you blast yourself. 'Tis only fair.

Most Dancougar game reports are fairly realistic except the occasional game where we end up playing a nation of invisible cartoon rabbits or Pokemon. Other than that, I tend to avoid godmods or other nonsense unless there's something about the other nation which makes it too good to pass up. Note that I don't consider things like the occasional own goal, saying which team dominated possession, and personal duels between players throughout the game as godmods. Unless, of course, your permissions say otherwise.

ROSTER

The Black Wings traditionally go through qualifying with a large pool of players, only whittling the number down to 23 for the World Cup or Cup of Harmony. This time, however, Dylandy only chosen 23 players to start and will call more up as they become needed. Any updates will be listed here as part of the depth chart and also in the RP thread. If no roster is announced before a match, players who RP first are free to pick the starting lineup, bearing in mind that the Wings prefer to play a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 formation.

In exhibitions and matches which have little or no bearing on qualification -- for instance, if the team qualifies with a few games to spare -- the manager will select more players from farther down the chart. Throughout the tournament, this page will be kept as up-to-date as possible with suspensions and injuries. Ages are as of the start of qualifying (which takes one year by Dancougar reckoning).

PLAYING STYLE

The team's strategy can be described as an attack-oriented +2 in modifier parlance. The team's strategy is built around a fluid midfield which is able to transition quickly between offense and defense. For example, when arranged in a 3-5-2, the midfield normally shaped like a pentagon. Two players serve as defensive central midfielders, two are spread out on the wings, and a single central attacking midfielder leads the formation. This allows the team to commit as many as five players on defense in normal play, or five on attack, or any number of variations in between. Of course, this means that the midfielders are the ones who tire first and are most likely to be substituted late in the game. Possession is also a key -- the team will gladly kick the ball around the back as long as it denies opponents the chance to attack.

Candelaria And Marquez National Football Team Squad for the 50th World Cup

The usual stuff for newcomers (OMGSOMANY!!11) and other oddballs:

1. The Republic of Candelaria And Marquez consists of two islands (I’ll give you a hint… one of them isn’t called ‘And’) and an assortment of outlying islands known as the Outlying Islands; the largest and most populous of which is Green Island.

2. Located in the north-west of the region of Rushmore, ‘C&M’ (as it is mercifully and almost universally known) is a relatively pleasant parliamentary democracy with a vaguely vibrant multicultural wossname. Its inhabitants speak English, except when they speak a somewhat tortured fantasia on a theme of Spanish.

3. These days, the primary focus of the Candelariasian public is directed towards sport – with the inhabitants of this modestly proportioned archipelago having somehow managed to support a two-time World Cup winning national football team, alongside world title-winning sides in field hockey and rugby union. The country is also known for its domestic football league, the CMSC, which has been consistently ranked as the second ‘best’ in the multiverse for the last decade or so.

4. Candelariasians, of course, don’t actually realise this – or, at least, the ‘multiverse’ part; for much knowledge that is all but taken for granted by the denizens of most other sporting states is nothing if not verboten within the Candelarias. The bulk of the Candelariasian populace have no idea that they share their ‘world’ with, for example; elves, dwarves, gnomes, androids, robotic ducks, ninja-monkey-monks, practitioners of actual voodoo, monks from an alternate dimension, hedgehogs, sapient mice, sapient bears, sapient badgers, sapient cucumbers, sapient beans, sapient trees, zombies, vampires, football-playing Greek letters, aliens, sentient puppets, cartoon characters, invisible rabbits, goalkeepers with no arms, purple stinging nellies, living Neolithic men, onion choppers, pinging trees, teapots and floating ponies. Or Aztec gods, come to that. But then, neither does anyone else… right?

5. Those who do know of such things – recent immigrants, journalists, and the like – are expected to keep schtum on pain of, er, pain; with the government under President Robyn Morton – and, in particular, the venerable and clandestine Ministry of Remedial Teaching – currently dedicated to upholding this status quo. Initially, they and their predecessors instituted all this at the behest of a extra-dimensional community of malevolent fairies (except not really… don’t ask), but today the Candelariasian Conspiracy is maintained out of a not unjustifiable terror that, were the public to discover the Truth in one big dollop – and the knowledge that they had been systematically lied to on such a grand scale for so many decades – civil society as we know it could all but collapse.

6. None of this actually matters to you furruners, of course, who can merrily ship up in C&M and do whatsoever the hell you wish – the M.O.R.T. and CAMAFA will take care of any relevant fallout.

7. Look, it all adds Colour, doesn’t it? Stop complaining.

8. Candelaria, for what it’s worth, includes a teensy-tiny microstate by the name of Gordon Bay City – a ‘nation’ home to more than forty sentient species and that maintains its own football team. Most Candelariasians, however, have absolutely no clue about any of this. Morons.

9. Oh. Time. Yes. Well, time in the Candelarias passes at more-or-less the same rate as the re… the real wo… the… as certain other places. While more sensible nations get around this potential problem by cheerfully ignoring it, C&M makes use of mysterious, ancient and worryingly spherical Time Dilation Devices, that have the effect of drastically altering reality to make it possible for two years to pass during World Cup cycles, and players, officials and (some) supporters to age with them. But not politicians. They’re immune. Don’t ask. Anyway, Candelariasians actually know about all this but don’t attempt to understand it, and who can honestly blame them? Just accept that it happens. Please. Please.

10. The nation has a wiki page. It’s really, really out of date.

11. The national team has a wiki page. It’s really, really long.

Squad:

Ages and statistics more-or-less correct prior to WC50 pre-qualifying friendlies

Head Coach: Carlos Panadero is fifty-two, and a man. He possesses a sizable collection of fashionable coats, only shaves when it’s absolutely necessary, was a former central defender and manager of the El din Marbles and Arrigo Portuguese, and isn’t very good.

Um.

His appointment came as something of a shock to pretty much everyone, and left even the Marquezian media baffled – for once, after all, there were a whole slew of Hispanic candidates up for taking over from Andy Le Lan who appeared to be rather better qualified than sexy Carlos, a man last seen a year ago walking out on Portuguese as the slumbered in the CMSC1 relegation zone. It’s not even as though he plays especially entertaining football, or anything. Indeed, he’s rather inclined to lump it.

Frankly, the CAMAFA are a bunch of bloody monkeys.

Anyway, his first XI looks like being pretty much the same as what Le Lan ended up with during the World Cup 49 finals, so maybe we’re not about to go down the plug hole immediately. One wonders if we really need a manager at all…

…

That wasn’t foreshadowing any future plot, by the way. Just putting it out there.

Our still moderately conservative 4-5-1 should generally take on a look of Fernández Montes – Archer, Davies, Plunkett, Wilkinson (c) – Aldren, Young, Kures, Nakatsuru, Randjelovic – Adams, though the horrendously long qualifying campaign will certainly force sexy Charles Baker (so much less impressive, innit?) into a sizable squidge of rotationinging.

Goalkeepers:

1. Christian Fernández Montes, Aged 31, Cafundó do Juta [Cafundéu], 28 caps (3 as sub)
Tall and athletic, Fernández remains prone to the occasional cock-up brought on by lapses in concentration and is by no means the undisputed number one. That said, his performances at the World Cup proper last time around were outstanding and, on his day, he’s one of the multiverse’s finest custodians. According to us, anyway.

23. William Romero Fernández, 26, Arrigo Portuguese, 5 caps (2 as sub)
Something of a maverick (but in a good way, goshdarnit), Fernández’s fellow Marquezian Romero (confused yet? We are…) is a proper all-round footballer. He might well have made a pretty solid outfield player, and acts as much as a sweeper for Portuguese as a goalkeeper. His defenders love him and fear him in equal measure, and much the same can be said for the opposition attack.

22. Cobus van Linschoten, 25, Albrecht Turkish
Born in Rose of Sharon of Nethertopian parentage, Van Linschoten made a somewhat unexpected switch from KT Hotspur to Turkish in the break and follows that up with a trip into the national team. With experience playing behind a robust defence, he would bring significant concentration along with a handy long kick – while the little guy also has an enviable record in saving spot-kicks.

Defenders:

2. Ricky Archer, 27, Ranca Toco [Cafundéu], STARTING RIGHT-BACK, 22 caps
Formerly a relatively rare Candelarian presence in a Sorthern-dominated Port of Clotaire side, Archer established himself in the Big Blues side during the WC49 finals before making the time-honoured move to Cafundéu. Interesting teeth, surface of the moon, and gangly legs; he’s best going forwards but has certainly improved his game defensively.

6. Jacob Davies, 28, Cafundó do Juta [Cafundéu], STARTING CENTRE-BACK, 65 caps, 2 goals
Clearly the most important part of the back line, Davies has grown into a truly world-class centre-half and a deserving World Cup final Man-of-the-Match. A natural footballer and supremely confident on the ball; he lacks both height and weight – making his partnership with the below all the more vital.

18. Jono Plunkett, 30, Ousevale Borough [Krytenia], STARTING CENTRE-BACK, 50 caps (8 as sub), 2 goals
In and out of this side like an unfortunate analogy, Plunks is C&M’s Mr Reliable having trained for many years at the feet of Yaforites. Now plying his trade as the first Candelariasian in Krytenia, there’s no doubt that the Davies-Plunkett Axis remains at the heart of the Big Blues’ hopes.

13. Oliver Wilkinson, 30, Arrigo Portuguese, STARTING LEFT-BACK, CAPTAIN, 56 caps (4 as sub), 4 goals
Another player approaching the wrong side of thirty, the captain is probably the weak link of the back four but his link-up place with one-time club team-mate Randjelovic should still be a vital part of the new manager’s tactics. And he does have very pretty eyes.

3. Finlay Edwards, 25, Radyukevich CSC
Who? A sign of the strength in depth across the CMSC1 or indicative of our appalling record in producing more than four decent defenders at any one time…? Possibly both, with the left-back having excelled for the Jukos last term but pretty much an unknown. We’ll tell you more about him, but… y’know…

5. Alice Gaynor, 22, Mayo Valley
What-what-what-what-what-what-what? A lady? Another lady? An actual Candelarian lady, who’s not anyone’s daughter (not anyone who matters, anyway), and who isn’t a doe-eyed blonde or anything? And who’s a central defender!? My God, what have we done?

12. William Vaughan, 28, Raynor City United [Valanora]
A right-back come central defender, Vaughan’s versatility and experience at one of the biggest clubs in the multiverse will certainly come in handy. A product of the Turkish academy system, he’s barely known either in C&M – Vanorian domestic football, curiously enough, has yet to be picked up by TTO Sport or owt – but several of his new team-mates known him well enough as a member of the DBC10 winning side.

Midfielders:

21. Jameson Aldren, 24, Green Island, STARTING RIGHT MIDFIELDER, 19 caps (5 as sub), 4 goals
A native of Zapata, the administrative capital of Green Island itself; Aldren failed to hold down a regular C&M place last time out but he’s no mere kid any more and still has pace to burn and an unerringly accurate cross.

19. Jhanna Young, 25, Green Island, STARTING ATTACKING MIDFIELDER, 37 caps (11 as sub), 17 goals
Possibly the most well-known C&M international of the moment (gee, how did that happen?), our Jhan might be another Outlien native (boo, hiss) but brings excellent ball control, plenty of pace, a creative brain, several years of tutelage under elves (as it were), oodles of attitude (whatever that is) and a burning desire to right wronges of olde. Oh, and the aforementioned blue eyes, and norks, an’ everything.

4. Ogus Kures, 28, Atlético Jutense [Cafundéu], STARTING DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER, 25 caps (9 as sub)
Neatly ticking both the ‘black’ and ‘muslim’ boxes; Albrecht-born Kures missed out on the World Cup final due to injury but looks set to remain first choice in the holding role following his move to Cafundéu.

17. Jesse Nakatsuru, 27, Albrecht FC, STARTING ATTACKING MIDFIELDER, 58 caps (3 as sub), 26 goals
Without doubt an exceptionally gifted player, Nakatsuru added a superb domestic season alongside a World Cup victory to install himself indisputably as one of the best midfielders out there. As much a goalscorer as a creative force, his partnership of sorts with Young finally clicked properly in the WC49 knock-out stages to make the pair a truly scary proposition.

11. Koviljko Randjelovic, 26, Albrecht Turkish, STARTING LEFT MIDFIELDER, 48 caps (1 as sub), 7 goals
In comparison, Randjelovic’s form has dropped away somewhat over the last couple of years but, on his day, he remains a superbly talented dribbler and a pretty decent crosser of the ball. While C&M have never excelled when it comes to producing goalscoring wingers, however, the Squornshelan-born, Marquez-raised Turkish star could do with upping his game in this particular department.

7. Lee McKenzie, 30, Mar Sara FC [Valanora], 37 caps (7 as sub), 13 goals
Still in the squad and still extremely reliable, McKenzie’s inclusion ahead of a younger alternative on the right in perhaps a surprise but, as a set-piece specialist, this Green Island native may well continue to prove vital against well-drilled back lines.

8. Adam Kouakou Kouamé, 22, Albrecht FC, 15 caps (11 as sub), 4 goals
Arguably highly unlucky to be around at a time when the Big Blues have Young and Nakatsuru to hand; the African-born, Albrecht-raised Adam KK will still be a marauding force if and when he’s called upon, possessing a sublime natural touch and plenty of versatility – features that have helped him keep a place in the squad ahead of host of other attack-minded midfield options.

14. Noah Collins, 26, KT Hotspur
New to the squad, Collins is a bulkier alternative to Randjelovic but looks unlikely to bring more goals: more just a bit of extra energy – and, of course, a devil of a left foot – if needed in the final few minutes of a match. Widely believed to ride the glittery coach home, nudge-nudge, wink-wink, but that’s fine these days, isn’t it?

15. Jordan Hawker, 28, A.F.F. [Cafundéu], 21 caps (9 as sub)
Well lookit that, it’s another Cafundéu-based player. Fancy. The Much-travelled, deep-lying Marquezian playmaker replaced Kures against the Holy Empire last time out and will continue to threaten his starting spot. Pity we couldn’t have had someone a bit more fresh and exciting though, wouldn’t you say…?

16. Toirdhealbharch O’Airmeadhaigh, 26, Port of Clotaire, 14 caps (10 as sub), 2 goals
Born in Albrecht to Sorthern Northlandish folks, Terence Armitage is a true box-to-box midfielder and, while many may question his selection ahead of a fourth striker once again, his performances both domestically and international – along with his two-footedness, flank-based versatility and surprising strength for a skinny chap – makes him pretty much invaluable, if only as an option from the bench.

Forwards:

10. Danny Adams, 31, Petardos S/A [Cafundéu], STARTING STRIKER, 79 caps (9 as sub), 43 goals
Still the first-choice striker, by the looks of it, Adams should surpass Ignacio Vélez’s record of 49 Big Blues goals over the next year or so to become C&M’s best goalscorer of all time – a status befitting his standing as one of the finest strikers in international football today. So they say in Cafundéu, anyway… A lanky fox-in-the-box, he doesn’t need to run and thus can probably plough on at this level for a goodly long time yet.

9. Ryan Sheppard, 23, Ironside-Talinger
Supposedly Adams’ natural successor, though we’ll take that with a sizable dollop of salt, Sheppard has excelled thus far at CMSC1 strugglers McDonald and Ironside but it’s impossible to say whether he can raise his game at international level to become an out-and-out striker of genuine class. If not, he may find his Big Blues tenure really rather short…

20. Gabriel Macanás, 27, El din Marbles, 41 caps (24 as sub), 17 goals
The third and final forward – with Panadero apparently looking to ape Le Lan as closely as is humanly possible – is hardly a shocking call-up, with Big Gabe having come through under Panadero at Portuguese before his summer switch up the coast. Good feet for a big man, and so on and such forth; he’s a useful lump with a surprisingly handy goalscoring record.

Gordon Bay City ‘National’ Football Team Squad for the 50th World Cup

Gordon Bay City is a recently established microstate consisting of a large and densely populated town, and the surrounding countryside, formerly located within the borders of Candelaria And Marquez, on the eastern coast of the island of Candelaria.

Though geographically closer to the Candelariasian capital Albrecht than almost any other major settlement in C&M, GBC has long maintained a distinct character of its own – though only in recent months (or arguably years. It’s… complicated) has it entered the world stage as a highly diverse and unique self-governing nation.

Further details as to the country’s origins can be found here, for those who really want it – the potted version is that GBC, while still home to Candelariasians who make up the country’s largest cultural community, is now also the official homeland of the surviving population of Kolani – an aboriginal Rushmori people who, for the most part, have spent the best part of the last century in another dimension, or something of that ilk, entirely, believing that they were a higher order of life than the human species they had been taught to despise – and, more unnervingly, to thousands of members of more than forty other sentient species.

Relations between the Candelariasians, Kolan and the nonhuman communities are still merely in the developmental stages, despite the presence of a power-sharing government and the unifying force of the national football team, and the true natures of many of these newcomers remain unclear. Certainly however, the majority have for now put aside their apparent distaste of human (and certainly Western) morals, attitudes and society in general in favour of accepting the traditional socio-economic structure of GBC as it was under Candelariasian rule, playing their part in creating what is clearly one of the most unique and exhilarating societies in the known multiverse.

Obviously, this isn’t going to end well.

For now however, the ‘indigenous’ Candelariasians’ passion for football has seen this team become a focal point of its nascent nation, and for good reason – at World Cup 46, they became the first nation to qualify for the World Cup on their first attempt without previously having a Baptism of Fire tournament since Quakmybush at World Cup 29. Failed to make it since then, granted, but that’s really not the point.

Manager: Mark Baker, a man inching towards the history books. One of these days, the GBC-born Candelariasian’ll even get his own wiki page, you mark my words.

A wrinkled hero, Baker has never won a piece of major silverware during his long years of management, though he probably can’t be held responsible for his ‘missing period’ immediately following his successful bid to guide Candelaria And Marquez to their debut World Cup on their third attempt, in which he was abducted by a yeti, eventually arrested by Candelariasian government officials, condemned to a life in a maximum security prison whilst being publicly declared dead, rescued by a Welsh goblin (or summat) reluctantly working on behalf of the country’s then rogue Minister for Remedial Teaching and dropped into the middle of a major World Cup quarter-final, retiring to the Liverpool Hills Sunshine Memory Towers before being unceremoniously dragged back into public life, almost succeeding in causing the downfall of contemporary C&M manager Elgin Dannat, discovering that his long-deceased sister had in fact been wired for many years to an eldritch device with the twisted cause of bringing about vast changes in the natural course of history, and ending up being pressganged into taking the GBC manager’s job by the Queen of the Faeries (who actually wasn’t) and her dim brother, who also happens to be the team’s captain and right-sided midfielder.

No, don’t ask “why”. “Why” is not important. The point is, he’s the perfect man for the job.

He stubbornly clings to a 4-4-2 despite his tactical wisdom, though frankly he doesn’t really need to use much in the way of that. The squad kinda picks itself, really…

Goalkeepers: Gnuraxai, a Panotti, is the team’s long-standing goalkeeper, who possesses little in the way of natural ability but comes equipped with five-foot long waggly ears, which makes dominating his penalty area an absolute doddle. Still a nervous figure, and far from keen on loud noises, but one can’t have everything.

Anacus, another panotti, is currently being groomed to take over the role in the coming months and sits on the bench.

Right-Backs: Curtis Kelly a Candelariasian by birth, born and reared in Gordon Bay City, a former full-back for the town’s now exiled football club, and now a citizen of the Democratic Republic. A solid if unshowy player, he probably wouldn’t make the first XI of any CMSC2 club, never mind in the top-flight, but this is one side that really doesn’t need to worry about the odd weak link…

Wee Jimmy the Gimp, trow, remains the alternative – a small, wizened creature invisible to many, who would appear to prefer playing football backwards when given half a chance.

Centre-Backs: Bm-Chm, a former citizen of Az-cz of gnomish origin, is a robust little defender of genuine international class. His new partner for this qualifying campaign is Roderica, a Seligen, and the squad’s most prominent female (as debateable as this tag may be) member. No taller than Bm-Chm, though rather more slender, Roderica is none the less an exceptional find and excellent on the ball.

On the bench, Baker appears to have selected an anonymous pillywiggin. Poor old soul.

Left-Backs: Jorge, the floating head, has made this place his own for many months now, a player who isn’t big on communication and lacks any obvious ball skills or, indeed, legs. But GBC is nothing if not a land of equal opportunities, and Jorge’s other attributes – talons, principally, and flappy ears – have served to make him a feared full-back on the global scene.

Meanwhile, it’s about time we had a bactrian camel back in the squad – Phwoaruuueeghuf’ Gunghurri bringing immense strength to the role, and in truth he can play just about anywhere across the back four. Just happens to be left-hoofed, is all. Both of them.

Right Midfielders: Aino, a human of Kolani origin, was (and still is, technically) the brother of the state’s despotic former ruler, Queen Leohi. Probably the weakest player on the pitch, he has undoubtedly improved in recent times and is no longer selected by Baker purely to avoid being decapitated, but certainly serves to make GBC’s right flank nothing if not vulnerable. He still captains the side.

Ghislain, a Corrandonnet, is a very viable alternative – only four foot tall, possessing hooves instead of feet and an unpleasant snigger; he’s none the less a tricky little winger and worth being wary of.

Defensive Midfielders: Kxaŋ͡ǂi, the Aigamuxa and the side’s invaluable deep-lying playmaker, has been a permanent fixture since emerging on the scene during WC46 qualifying. His directional sense is poor, on account of having his eyes on the soles of his feet and needing to remove his boots and socks at regular intervals to see where he’s going, as are his communicative abilities, but he’s a fine distributor of the ball and tends to avoid getting tackled. We don’t know why. Perhaps he’s just lucky.

The only true representative of GBC’s ‘little people’ on the squad meanwhile, Giovanni Vino is an Erdluitle – very much lacking in height, he is an exceptionally strong member of his kind and looks set to make a real impact.

Attacking Midfielders: Anegersi, an eager young Satyr, could one day be a true world-beater. Balance and ball-control are issues to be worked upon, but he’s a thoroughly professional young man with a fine change of pace, and he’s even been persuaded to wear shorts and remove his piercings prior to matches.

A smaller but exceptionally hard-working option; Walter Johann – a Hutchen – is an industrious box-to-box midfielder and a major cheery-eyed boon in the dressing room to boot.

Left Midfielders: Nobilanlibonga Manqa, a Tikoloshe, may resemble a somewhat malevolent teddy bear but he’s emerging as a real weapon, with both bulk and speed on his side, as well as the odd flick and trick.

The squad’s new thuss, meanwhile, takes up a role on the left. Venstre Midtbane adds height and grace and, unlike his immediate predecessors, covers his face with an ornate mask rather than a carrier bag.

Forwards: No change in the all-important front two: Poloma, another Kolan and a player of blistering pace, and his partner, the Alan. Coming equipped with vast black wings, floppy feet, a nightmarishly contorted face, and unflappably convivial attitude to life on and off the football field; the Alan is GBC’s most valuable player, as well as Baker’s eyes and ears on the pitch. The only member of the squad to have played professionally – as a supersub striker for Tenderville United – the Alan’s goals will make or break GBC’s WC50 campaign.

Other striking options, should they be needed, include Piotr – a Leshy with an absolute devil of a right foot – and the inevitable singing bean, Cicer Arietinum, who makes up in enthusiasm what he lacks in physical stature.

Stadium: Located in GBC’s seaside district, Richmond Park was the former home ground of the town’s club side and has since been extensively renovated for use by the national team. Its capacity is uncertain – plenty of the team’s supporters can sit several dozen to a seat, while others need a whole column to themselves – but there will certainly be raucous representation from the three main community groups; with Candelariasians present in increasing numbers, alongside Kolan who have comfortably abandoned their delusions of grandeur when it comes to their team’s ability but still aren’t entirely comfortable with the very notion of competitive sport or actual rules of football. At least several dozen other species will also be milling around – with one end of the stadium left lit only by candlelight, even during evening games, to cater for those peoples of a more nocturnal nature.

A small number of travelling supporters will also be permitted entry to the microstate alongside the official party – though all entry should be direct into GBC via air rather than across the Candelariasian border – and local authorities will endeavour to permit free movement where possible and access to all local amenities. Tourists are strongly advised however to consult officially accredited guides when considering heading away from the main retail and costal areas, and treat the sensibilities of non-human residents in particular with the deepest respect.

RP Permissions: Those who prefer realism can safely ignore any or all of the above as they please. Anyone else, knock yourself out. At the very least, I strongly demand that the signing bean gets eaten at some point.

After a long and difficult hunt through an arcane trans-dimensional filing system known only as "The Jolt Archives"...

THE ARCHREGIMANCY ANNOUNCES WC 50 SQUAD:

To celebrate WC 50, we bring you the return of the first ever Archregimancy World Cup Squad from WC24!

COLOURS

Change: Intricately inter-woven threads of gold and red with black trim

COACH
Despite not coaching a team since WC24, Metropolitan Kyrill has been reappointed following compromises over team ecumenical relations and his controversial proposed 3-3-3 formation.

THE STARTING XI

The Archregimancy plays in an orthodox 4-4-2 formation.

GK
Fr. Justinian the Thrice-Blessed (Pantaleimon): Roundly acknowledged as the best goalkeeper in the Monastic League, Fr. Justinian saved three shots in the penalty shoot-out that decided the famous Pantaleimon vs. Pantocrator Monastic Cup semi-final.

DEF
Fr. Michael the New Hermit (Hermits United): On those rare occasions when he actually leaves his small cell high in the mountains to play for his team, Fr. Michael the New Hermit is a left-back of no little skill and refinement.

Fr. Michael the Greater (Troitse-Sergiyeva): His name has nothing to do with his devotion – this towering centre-back is merely several centimetres taller than his namesake and teammate Fr. Michael the Lesser.

Fr. Dmitri the Humble (Pantocrator): While vowed to silence and humility, there’s nothing retiring about this centre-back's crunching tackles.

Fr. Michael the Lesser (Troitse-Sergiyeva): Club teammate of Fr. Michael the Greater, and a speedy overlapping right-back fond of taking corners.

MID
Fr. Andrew the Twice-Found (Vatopedion): This left-winger has had two spells at Vatopedion either side of a spiritual journey through the vast emptiness of the Archregimancy’s desert.

Fr. Polycarp the Venerable [cap] (Simonopetra): Age shall not weary this well-respected central midfielder - and former WCC president - with a thunderous left foot.

Fr. David the Water-Drinker (Llanilltud Fawr): The only western-rite player on the squad, this central midfielder is renowned for spurning the heretical properties of Gatorade for the spiritually uplifting properties of pure spring water.

Fr. Pavel the Wanderer (Iviron): Iviron’s star right-winger – a celibate priest rather than a monk - often drifts in from the wing in the course of one of his trademark mazy dribbles.

FOR
Fr. Silouan of the Seventy Caves (Solovetsky): This centre forward’s goalscoring ability is second only to his attention to the Holy Fasts.

Fr. Nicholas the Hermit (Hermits United): Perennial strugglers Hermits United (“Hermits Disunited”, as the not-really-that-funny joke goes) often rely on the goal-scoring miracles of this shy and retiring centre forward.

SUBS
GK
Fr. Gleb the Fortunate (Hilandarion)

DEF
Fr. Nicholas the Twice-Blessed (Solovetsky)
Fr. Alexander the Missionary (Zografos)
Fr. Alexander the Sailor (Pantocrator)

MID
Fr. Constantine the Learned (Simonopetra)
Fr. Michael the Equally as Learned as Father Constantine of Simonopetra (Iviron)
Fr. Theophilus the Golden (Vatopedion)

FOR:
Fr. Pavel the New Slav (Borisoglebsky)
Fr. Demetrius of the New City (Pantaleimon)

The team shall be accompanied to away qualifiers by the Holy Icon of the Mother of God, Bringer of Victory, which shall also be paraded before the team before all home and away qualifiers.

Home qualifiers shall take place in the Dreamed Stadium, which for the purposes of these qualifiers shall take the form of the Belly of Jonah's Whale - with a 50,000 seat stadium on the inside; just like it did in WC24

Teams visiting the Archregimancy for qualifying matches are respectfully reminded of the following (mostly duplicated from the original WC24 instructions!):

1) Ordinary physical travel to the Dreamed Realm is impossible. 24 hours before your qualifying matches in the Archregimancy, a representative of the Archregimancy shall arrive in your national stadium (or designated alternative venue) to construct a portal to the Dreamed Realm. Your team may travel to the Archregimancy for practice at any point thereafter simply by walking through the portal.

2) You are permitted to bring up to 10,000 supporters to your away qualifiers. They shall be transported directly to the ground through the portal mentioned in 1), above. However, NO RIOTING OR HOOLIGAN BEHAVIOUR SHALL BE TOLERATED. At the slightest sign of violent behaviour, all away supporters shall be immediately transported back to ordinary physical reality.

3) The entire divine liturgy of St. John Chrysostom shall take place before kickoff, after the teams have arrived on the pitch (no sitting permitted). Rest assured that this should only take one and a half to two hours.

4) Heretics, atheists, pagans, women and freemasons will be permitted into the Archregimancy for the tournament - but that doesn't mean we have to like it.

5) While our praying/meditating monks control the nature of reality in the Archregimancy, rest assured that this ability is never used to cheat at sport. All normal rules of football (if playing in a 50,000 seat stadium inside the belly of a whale that only exists in the dreams of monks can be said to be 'normal') shall be observed. We have, however, decided to remove injuries when playing at home - all injuries to players on either side shall be immediately healed (this only occurs to injuries sustained during the match; players injured in previous matches who happen to make the trip will stay injured). You can, of course, still make tactical substitutions when playing in the Archregimancy, and our team members are fully subject to ordinary injury when playing away from home.

OOC: I realise my team might present a role-playing challenge. Rest assured that once they start playing they'll play just like any other team (though they might be a bit more inclined to pray after scoring, and are far less inclined to get into a fight), so there's no problem at all with you treating the team more or less like any other if you don't want to deal with the Orthodox Christian element. Equally, no offence will be caused by anyone choosing to roleplay hostility towards my team's beliefs - though if you're going that route, do please try and drop me a telegram first to say as much, just to avoid potential misunderstandings.

If you RP first, you MAY
Choose my goalscorers
Issue yellow cards or red cards
Injure my players
Godmode events such as sleepness nights or hellacious rain. If you RP one of my players raping and pillaging the town, Considine deciding to start his starting forward in goal, etc., make me laugh! Just bear in mind that Callidon is very much past-tech. Think circa 1810. So seeing my players texting or calling people on their mobile phones will get you a gentle reminder not to do that again.

Coach: Kenneth Considine, 51. Herefordshire F.C.
The manager of the team that won the inaugural national championship of Callidon, Considine is pulling double duty as best he can given the circumstances. Fortunately for him, the country's football association will not resume until after Callidon's international football run has finished.
Assistant: Jonah Wilcomb, 59, Royal Callidon
Wilcomb served as manager of the side that lost the final in Callidon's inaugural season. He brings defensive expertise to contrast with Considine's offensive exploits.
Goalkeepers Coach: Ed Fleetwood, 63, Herefordshire F.C.
Guided his team's goalkeepers to the league's best goals conceded per match average. He is known as a patient teacher.
Trainer: Luke Bradley, 46, Royal Callidon
Responsible for keeping his lads fresh for matches, but uses [RL 19th century] medical equipment.

GK 1 Noah Peters, 27, Herefordshire F.C. 6-foot-1, 175 pounds.
Peters has catlike reflexes and gained valuable experience in three international tournaments last time out. It will be interesting to see where his experience takes him.
D 2 George Wenders, 22, Royal Callidon 5-foot-11, 180 pounds.
Rugged defender who plays bigger than his height. Plays an average of 17.2 matches per 20-match season due to injury.
D 3 Trey Dickson, 27, S.C. Hanover 6-foot, 190 pounds. Captain.
Dickson is coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament that would have rendered him an amputee if not for a Delaclav doctor. His comeback has been viewed as rather magical as a result.
4 D Joseph Mathers, 23, Harrisonburg Blues. 5-foot-10, 170 pounds.
Mathers gained some experience during the three tournaments Callidon competed in during the previous World Cup cycle. He still has the speed of his youth, but now mixes it with slightly more savvy.
5 D Patrick Connors, 21, Dunsinane Dragons. 6-foot-2, 215 pounds.
A rugged defender. Sometimes too aggressive. If a referee is going to book any Callidon player, it's this guy.
6 M Michael Donaldson, 24, Birnam Wood. 5-foot-8, 155 pounds.
A gritty defensive midfielder, often expected to mark the opponent's playmaking midfielder or top scoring forward.
7 D Will Fredericks, 22, Dunsinane, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds.
Fredericks is his team's best defensive player as far as technique is concerned. Speed is a challenge for this lanky right-booted player.
8 D John Calvert, 25, Sporting Britton Cove, 5-foot-9, 160 pounds. - Alternate captain
All heart and brain, no brawn or speed. Sums it all up for Calvert.
9 M Reginald Taylor, 26, Brightonburg Castles, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds.
A left-booted player with a dangerous shot, but can get caught napping on defence.
10 M Christopher Wesley, 27, Birnam Wood F.C., 5-foot-6, 130 pounds.
A great distributor of the ball who takes most free kicks and handles most of the corners, Wesley struggles with penalties.
11 M Frank Smith, 25, Kingford S.C., 6-foot-2, 205 pounds.
Right-booted player who can play either wing or serve as backup playmaker, but whose defense leaves much to be desired.
12 M Michael Archer, 26, Argus S.C., 6-foot-3, 210 pounds.
Provides a physical presence in midfield when selected, but has problems with his touch.
14 M Timothy Devine, 27, Piedmont F.C., 5-foot-11, 155 pounds.
Strong touch from the right side, but especially deadly when called upon to take penalties.
15 F Colin Gregory, 26, Argus S.C., 6-foot-4, 215 pounds.
Specializes in headers off corner kicks and other highly phyical ways to score. Touch is not his strong suit.
16 F Martin Chambers, 25, Brightonburg, 5-foot-11, 175 pounds.
The flashier of the two starting forwards, he can also serve as playmaking midfielder if the formation calls for it.
17 F Paul Issacs, 24, Royal Callidon, 6-foot, 200 pounds.
The best combination of physical play and athleticism, he earned a spot as a starter with the Clippers two years ago.
18 GK Kurt Wonders, 22, Sporting Britton Cove, 5-foot-9, 165 pounds.
Flamboyant keeper. occasionally known for straying rather far from his goalline in an effort to start the play.
19 F Ed Norman, 25, Piedmont F.C., 5-foot-11, 160 pounds.
Easily jostled out of position, he is known more for accuracy than hardness of shot.
20 GK Devin Patrick, 20, Brightonburg, 5-foot-9, 145 pounds.
Known more for how much food he can put away and stay thin than he is for his football knowledge, but is an all star for his secondary school.

Nellietopia is in fact a country of PURPLE-STINGING NELLIES!

Right, so now that you've clicked on the link, we can go scurry off and find something to do with these little miscreants before the WCC realizes the horrible mistake of letting the little critters play football... again. Yeah, that's right. Instead of fielding androids for Allemenschen, we had purple-stinging nellies, which caused all sorts of problems, ranging from stinging (surprise?) to a never-quite-fulfilled declaration of war by AFLAC (it's still called AFLAC, because we're not that imaginative) against Sorthern Northland.

Oh, and this is the spot where you're supposed to read about the national football team. Seeing as the little arachnids are not so horrible footballers, we'll see just how good they do with this one.

Manager: some scared anthropomorphic animal. After the inevitable collapse of Allemenschen, the nellies decided to take matters in their own hands (all 8 of them, plus those chelicerae) and establish a new government. Just for that, the roles in society got switched around - with them nellies being the primary residents, and the humans becoming the national pets of Nellietopia. Of course, there's something wrong about having "humans" has national pets according to the WA, so the Nellies managed to get around this by labelling all humans as "anthropomorphic animals". Doesn't have the same ring as "human", but it still grants humans their proper national protection under the law.

Anyway, they got one of them to be their coach. His name is probably Bob, so say hello to Bob. And Bob likes to play uber-defensive (-max) 1-4-5.

GK: #1. We're not sure if that's his name (we're not sure if anything of them have names), but they got white paint and painted various things on their backs. And the goalkeeper - who really looks like one of them goliath spiders - is an imposing figure in the box. Just don't let him eat you.

RWB: D. Again, the names thingy. But D is quite swift, and he's good with the ball. Unfortunately, he thinks the ball is food, so after catching the ball, he tends to deflate the thing and start sucking out whatever juices one can contrive from a leather sack.

LWB: =. There's just one problem with nellies; do they have eight legs or eight arms. Because clearly having four pairs of limbs is a serious advantage, but we don't want to break any rules. And = manages to avoid the gravest error by frequently using her abdomen (and yes, we know she's a she). Very strong abdomen.

RCB: $. Did we mention that these things are about the size of your foot? So... these little suckers are going to have problems competing with full-sized humans. But somehow we think they'll do just fine, as long as they play with their ball and not their opponents. Oh right, and this little chap just likes the $ sign.

LCB: ~~~. Something about them tildes makes ~~~ really happy. Fortunately, he doesn't eat the ball or his opponents; in fact, he's a vegetarian (weird, innit?).

CB: P. And the anchor of the defense is really strong, really big (for a nellie), really smart, and really strong. Did we mention that he's really strong. All of these nellies are really strong, but P is really strong. In fact, if he doesn't get his way, he'll cast a web of silk and start battling it out old school style, which is quite strange for a football match, because I've never seen old-school footy.

DMC: bubba. The only one with a somewhat human name, and the way he plays resembles the way most humans play. Of course, watching a bipedal human with 6 other arms is still quite unnerving, but you'd be surprised how the increased profile actually helps bubba keep the ball under his control.

RCM: #2. Apparently, this little bugger thinks of herself as the #2 person on the squad. And while you'd be pressed to wonder why she spends most of her time airborne, you'd also be pressed to keep your eye on the ball. #2 has certainly mastered the aerodynamic principles of web-flying.

LCM: 1093. Some weird inside, it seems. The nellies themselves don't know what it means, but 1093 just likes to play footy they way everyone else does (which is get the ball, eat the ball, and just beat the other team by forcing them to play a game that they're not used to playing).

CM: xyz. wtf? seems like everything about this little one is abbreviated journeys, which means lots of long kicks, lots of quick bursts of speed, and lots of random scurrying around the pitch. Thankfully, xyz can do all of that.

REM: 0. And no, that's not rapid eye movement, it's random everywhere man. And I'm not sure why they're calling 0 a "man", since he's not a man. He's more like a REN - random everywhere nellie. But yeah, he's just everywhere and everything, so if you looking to defend anyone, it's him.

All matches to be played in Nellietopia are to be played at that big stadium that they built for Cup of Harmony 37. As a result, it's got a capacity of 1,093,000 nellies or just about 80,000 anthropomorphic animals. If you want to call the stadium anything, call it the "RBP Stadium" (Really Big Purple Stadium). As for the locals, you're welcome to interact with the nellies and the anthropomorphic animals at your own risk. Not all nellies sting other humans, and then again, not all nellies are purple (but then they're not purple-stinging nellies...). When in doubt, RP as you feel would make me happy. If I'm not happy, I reserve the right to make me happy.
HAHA! NOTHING IN HERE! yet...

Manager Michael Davis has made just one change from the squad that participated in the Copa Rushmori and the Baptism of Fire. Left-side midfielder Peter Howell was dropped from the squad in favor of striker Matt Cooper.

Davis favors a 3-4-3 formation that plays a little less aggressively than one might expect (style modifier -1).
