What some may call a line of fossils, we call a line of experience. Though none of the players are as sprite and lithe as they were in their youth, they know hockey inside and out. The name of the game here is exploiting younger, inexperienced opponents, leading them into traps and forcing them into gambits any seasoned player would avoid in an instant.

Still Undefeated

SHADOWBOURNE- The Canuckistani mens hockey team defeated Shadowbourne by a slim margin of 1-0 to maintain their 7 game undefeated streak and to be the top team in the WCOH 21 group stage as of MD7, in terms of wins and points. With the first and second periods being a complete stalemate, it would seem that the game would be a boring one. It was not. The Canuckistani defence played beautifully with amazing hits and strategy to keep the Shadowbournean team at bay. However, the offensive side of the team was not faring so well. With van Key injured early on from a brutal hit and a strong Shadowbournean defence, the Canuckistani offence just couldn't get the puck past the goalkeeper. During the third, the game was almost lost for the Canuckistanis with a shot by Shadowbourne in a scrum in front of the net that was disallowed for a very subtle kick of the puck. The offence with momentum from the disallowed goal finally found the back of the net with Farnsworth getting the point at 19:23 in the game. To the booing of the Shadowbournean fans, the Canuckistani team held off for the remaining 37 seconds to capture their 7th win of this round robin.

After the game, we talked to Alexei Cabrel, the assistant coach of the team and he commented on the game, "We played good defence, the offence are looking a bit tired from the travel and a few minor illnesses. The staff are trying to fix this and hopefully being home will help them play better next game. Our defence is improving so far however our offensive output is declining as we've only been scraping by these past few games." Fedetenko Comes Up Big

In order to give Craig Howard a break before key games in the final 3 matchdays, Olli Fedetenko has had to step up and mind the net for the Golden Eagles and he has done so very well. On MD6, he took on Soviet Canuckistan and only allowed 2 goals to the 7th ranked team in the world. It was better than many thought the backup would fare against such talented opposition. The unfortunate thing is that he received no offensive help from his teammates and the Canuckistanis earned their 6th consecutive win with a 2-0 shutout.

Fedetenko was again the netminder against unranked Maximus Bush who managed 4 goals, but fell by 2 on MD2. The top line was golden in this one. They played excellent defense and helped limit the opposition's shots. Olli only allowed one to trickle by late in the second while he was being heavily screened. Jurgis Streit had scored earlier in the period and Max Goulding got the gamewinner on the deflection 4:38 into the 3rd period to power Team Vaugania to a 4-1-2 record. Craig Howard will be taking the reins back for the rest of the group stage.

Coming up on MD9 is 11th ranked Falconwhereveryouare. This is going to be a pivotal game in deciding who gets the automatic 2nd place qualifier and who has to scrounge for a wildcard spot. The Golden eagles are just looking for points in this one. First-year coach Tomas Alexander stated, "We're a good team and they're a good team and this is going to be a good game."

Everyone else expects the same from this crucial match-up. Now in their 3rd WCoH, the Golden Eagles are still hunting for their first playoff spot. Before this big game will be a game against 122nd ranked Shadowbourne whom Vaugania thrashed 5-0 and afterwards, the Golden Eagles will play unranked Sova Empire that shocked the Golden Eagles with a 1-1 tie. All eyes will be on the arena in Falconwhereveryouare where the game of the night will be swinging. Be sure to tune in for this one on MD9.

The Daily Quak

Streaky Team Keeps Streaking

The Quakmybush National hockey team has continued play in the 21st World Cup of hockey over the past week. The team has seen two different streaks over this time. After re-debuting the tournament with a 4-3 win over Stretta the team fell apart, losing 4 straight, and plunging to the bottom of the group table. However since a 4-2 loss to Plutoni, and some on ice changes, the team has rattled off three straight wins. Head Coach David Matthews has been credited with turning the team around.

Lose 5-3 at Northern Sunrise Island

After a great start for the good guys with goals by Bobby Bjorkman, Elliot Lasse, and Joey Slane, the opposition went onto score four unanswered and seal the game late in the third period with an empty netter. A disappointing result, yes, but overall, a game that coach could deal with. After the game he said "Ya know, we did lose, but I'm pretty proud of the way my guys played, if we play like that every game, we will win more than we lose."

Lose 4-3 versus The Fair Republic

Another heart breaking loss. Quakmybush scored late in the third to tie the game and look to at least salvage a point, but it was not meant to be. With less than ten seconds remaining in the third, The Fair Republic took the lead. Quakmybush came down from 3-0 down to score three goals in the third to make the game close, but could not finish out with a win. Again, Coach Matthews supported his players, saying it was just bad luck that cost them the game.

Lose 5-3 at Estope

This game is arguably the worst game of the tournament for Quakmybush being outscored in the first period 5-0. Causing Coach Matthews to look like he was going to blow a gasket behind the bench. The goaltender was changed with Roger Akerman being pulled and replaced by Lloyd Celestino. Quakmybush scored 3 goals late but they were inconsequential in the game. After the game Coach Matthews was far from the happiest man in the room. His post game press conference was expletive laden and barely understandable. He said there would be big change for the next game.

Lose 4-2 versus Plutoni

Changes did occur before this game. Under performing Samuel Wruck, and Victor Dempsey were both scratched and replaced by Steffan Belcher and Fabien Wakefield. Chet Legrand also saw his first action on the back-end, replacing Roger Bonney. Lloyd Celestino got the start in net. These changes did not light a fire under Quakmybush's tail. The team was outshot an astounding 65-25 in the game, being absolutely dominated. The lone bright spot for the team was the amazing play of Celestino in net, making an amazing 61 saves.

Win 4-3 at Stretta

Coach Matthews continued with the same lineup from last game, and it finally payed off as Quakmybush broke their terrible losing skid. It did not come easy though. Stretta played a strong game, making a 4-0 deficit a 4-3 one late into the third period. But again stellar, if not outstanding goaltending by Lloyd Celestino won the game for Quakmybush. Coach Matthews had nothing but praise for Celestino saying his last couple of games had been some of the best he has ever seen in his career at any level.

Win 3-0 versus Northern Sunrise Islands

Quakmybush took on the team that started their terrible skid, and played their first near perfect game of the tournament. The whole team played solid hockey, and they were rewarded with a 3-0 win. Two players stared on the gamesheet, with Lukas Tasker scoring a natural hattrick, and Lloyd Celestino continuing his impressive play with a 41 save shutout. Quakmybush hoped to draw much from this game, and continue playing this style of hockey.

Win 5-4 at The Fair Republic

Although not as defensively spectacular as the last game, Quakmybush managed another win, bringing the winning streak to 3. Lloyd Celestino stayed solid, and the offense helped. Running the streak to three Quakmybush now has an outside chance of advancing to the next stage of the tournament. The solid goaltending and good offensive play must continue for this to happen. All the credit in this reversal of fortune can be given to Matthews as he had the stones to go against the grain and start Lloyd Celestino, a decision that is paying large dividends for the team.

He stood outside the back door of the Ko-oren National Stadium, probably the smallest competition rink he'd ever seen at 9500 capacity, enjoying a smoke. He preferred Valleys, which were probably the most popular brand in the Confederacy. It had been more and more difficult to take the griping and defeatist talk, as much from Coach Le Houne as the players. Remy Velper walked out the door, kicking the brick out that was propping the door open.
"No, Remy, Wait!"

"Huh?" Remy muttered as he stumbled out. He was lightning on the ice, making the most attacks on the net this game, but off the ice...Well, Mensa wasn't knocking on his door.

"Merd." The door clicked shut, with no outside handle and no way to get it open.
"Now we gotta walk all the way around, jerk-nuts."

"Take it easy...relax...give me a Valley, Sammy."

"Yeah, Because that'll help you skate better, ya cozzfickin' moron!" He relented and gave him the cigarette.

"What's yer problem, Sammy? You're supposed to be peptalkin' us man! We tied, no frickin' score against Ko-oren. I don't get it."

"Remy, we weren't ready for this, man. We are way outclassed in our group, not to mention the whole Cup. You guys gotta suffer through a couple more games, rack up some more experience and you all come back next year a little better, with some ranking in the world."

"Easy for you to say, Mr. trainer. You're not out there gettin' knocked around and humiliated."

"I'm still a member of the Ibex. Trust me, it's humiliation enough." Then he felt the pop and sting across his cheeks and nose and he was staring up at Remy from the ground.

"Sorry, it's just kind of automatic...and that was a dick thing to say."

"Sssawrigh' Remaaa. shhhzzzzz...I shudna sayyy-ed that." Remy was trying to pull him up, but only succeeding in swinging him into the wall and grinding his head against the bricks. "AHHH! STOP!" Suddenly he had his voice back.
He sat upright on the ground and grabbed the smoke that had been knocked out of his mouth. There was still a couple drags left and the suckers were getting expensive. He could feel blood running down the back of his neck from his cheese-grated scalp. He let out a sigh, exhaling nicotine blue haze. The left winger crouched next to him and Sammy Desaux turned to him, "Remy, I love you guys, but we're just never gonna be a powerhouse International team, at least not until long after you and I have moved on and are getting way too regular prostate exams."

"Oh, no...isn't that done in yer..."

"Let's walk around and get let back in, Remy."

"Yeah, OK. You should get that head looked at."

Havl Earns Draw Against The Royal Kingdom of Quebec

Capital City, Havl – It was a goaltending showdown Sunday night in a close match between two Group 7 powerhouses, the Royal Kingdom of Quebec and defending champions Havl. The 31st-ranked Ice Knights, renowned for their physical presence and propensity to fight, vowed to focus on staying out of the penalty box. Indeed, the RKoQ managed only eight penalties through sixty minutes. "It was quite a surprise," said Havl defenseman Tomas Holicek, whose rumored tangle with notable Quebec goon Logan Guthrie never materialized. "They played us clean," said Holicek.

In a game that Havl head coach Niklas Lindberg called the "only real challenge" left in the qualifying round, both teams showed their conservative side in the first period. Defense was clearly the order of the night, and despite shooting nearly evenly in the first twenty minutes, the opposing squads appeared hesitant to apply offensive pressure. "It's one of those games, you know?" asked Havl captain Justin Donndelinger. "When the other team is looking good, you try to be more patient and wait for high-yield shots." Donndelinger had two of such opportunities in the first period, although both were stopped by Quebec goaltender Cadance Edwards-Molsson.

Kirk Siegmeister scored Havl's lone goal.

Quebec was first to get on the scoreboard when Guthrie scored a rare goal on a deflection from teammate Joo Won Chun. The goal marked the first time the defending World Cup champions have given up the first goal in this tournament. "It made my head spin," said goaltender Davis Rich. "[Guthrie] isn't much of a goalscorer, you know." The momentum remained in the Ice Knights' favor for the rest of the period as Quebec outshot Havl 10-6.

The third period saw a refocused Havl squad take command, earning the first five shots of the period as Edwards-Molsson continued to stymie their offense. Finally, with 8:32 remaining in the game, Kirk Siegmeister flicked a beautiful wristshot past Edwards-Molsson's outstretched glove to even the score. Both teams scrambled in the remaining time to score a go-ahead goal, but the opposing goaltenders proved formidable. "It's strange to have a draw," said Rich. "We're all so accustomed to overtime and shootouts in the HHL. But a point's a point."

With two games remaining, Havl continues to lead of Group 7 by a reduced margin of three points over Valanora. The eighth match day sees Group 7 teams Lymantatia, Saintland, and Sjovenia officially eliminated from competition. Havl is one point away from earning automatic entry into the playoff stage. Coverage of World Cup of Hockey XXI continues on HTVM Monday evening as the Havl men's ice team faces unranked Sjovenia live from Bitburg.

Undefeated, but not by much

MOSCAWA- It was a very close game but in the end, Soviet Canuckistan and The Sova Empire tied 0-0 in the eighth day of play in the 21st World Cup of Hockey. The first period brought a lot of Canuckistani offence with constant shots against Sigvard Kristoffer, the Sovans starting goalie. However, the second period brought much more even play with both sides battling hard to find the back of the net. A close Canuckistani shot by Mistrenko found the crossbar but was intercepted just as it was about to bounce off a Sovan player and go into the net. The Canuckistani offence was slow and tired in the third with the defence struggling to keep the Sovan team scoreless. Gasps came from the Canuckistani crowd as the puck slid slowly past Albanski but he managed to stop it in time to end the game 0-0 and to keep the Canuckistani team undefeated.

Post-game, we talked to van Key about what he saw during the game due to his tournament-ending injury from a broken collarbone, he commented, "They look a bit tired out there, it's been some long days with the travel for them. The defence are playing well, but the offence is definitely tiring out there. Hopefully they can rest up and play better in these last two round robin games so we can have a bit of momentum going into the playoffs." With Falconwhereveryouare and Vaugania still in the hunt for a playoff spot, these next two games against Maximus Bush and Falconwhereveryouare will be crucial for the Canuckistani team. All was quiet here in the middle of the night. Lots of players were sound asleep while others played games or read books. This was the Vauganian flight to Falconwhereveryouare. The only person on the plane not relaxing was Tomas Alexander. The freshly minted coach was now 8 games into his career with a country best 5-1-2. Michael Dubinski who led Tomas in previous years never attained such a record in any given WCoH or Olympics. The team was 8-3-11 all time with Alexander took over. Now he had the most important game of his coaching career so far ahead of him.

Falconwhereveryouare plays an offensive game, but not quite as offensive as the high octane offense the Golden Eagles use. The biggest problem with playing them would be their strategy, which was by no means bad. Tomas pulled out his coach binder and flipped open to a blank page while uncapping a pen to write notes with. He got past his notes for Shadowbourne and stared down the next page with just the outline of the rink on it. He started writing down all of Falconwhereveryouare's lines on the page. He matched each line with one of his own to be played against it. The two first lines against each other. His top line was experienced enough to not get bothered by the pesky style of play their couinterparts used. Falconwhereveryouare's 2nd line against the Golden Eagle 2nd line and 1st line and...

"Coach," said an unknown voice.

Tomas looked around as if he felt somebody was watching him commit a crime.

"Over here."

Tomas followed the voice and saw Jurgis Streit leaning out of the aisle. "You oughta put that thing away, Coach. You're writing like you have a deadline in 5 minutes. I know all of the stuff you managed to recover from when you played, but there's no cure for a bad night of sleep."

"I suppose you're right, Jurgis," Tomas responded.

"We'll do fine. Snoozing away in the back of this plane are some of the best hockey players the world has to offer."

"Alright, Jurgis. I'll take care of it in the morning."

The binder closed on the uncapped pen and slid back under the seat. The flustered coach leaned his head back to rest and was dreaming in an instant. Jurgis smiled and chuckled to himself. He always had to look out for the old guy.

OOC: This was originally going to be a Royal Five interview featuring the return of Iosue Alfenus, but I ended up with something different as I was typing this out. This is probably my final RP of the WCoH.

Following the mathematical elimination of the Kingdom of Saintland from the World Cup of Hockey, games had been bumped to Royal Five. With Saintland not involved in any international sports at the moment, the Royal Networks were televising something other than sports in prime time for the first time in months. The Strongnesse Cup had been broadcast on Royal One and the Kingdom had been disappointed to see their National Soccer Team once again fall to arch-rivals New Sideburn in the usual brutal soccer match. Saintland had just defeated Sjovenia 6 to 2 and most of the Kingdom had been watching the baseball game between St. Paulus and St. Petrus instead. The cities always dominated domestic sports in Saintland, but this year both teams had gone into slumps during the World Baseball Classic while their star players were busy dodging apples in Cassadaigua. The most eagerly anticipated event in Saintland at the moment was the wedding of Georgius Catiotus, a center back for the National Soccer Team, and Martha Pudentilla, who had won gold in figure skating at the most recent Winter Olympics. Others were talking about the upcoming press conference from Royal Computer Entertainment of Saintland, where Prince Andreas would finally reveal whatever he had spent the time between the last 2 World Cups working on.

Hockey was certainly no longer on the radar of most of the Kingdom. Ioannes Bruccius had been the latest addition to the list of injured Sanctii, as Logan Guthrie knocked him out cold. He wanted to go back into the game against Quebec, but Prince Josephus had decided to sit him out for the rest of the tournament. Nothing had been going right for the National Hockey Team. Prince Josephus and Thomas Clovius were physically ready to return, but both of them had chosen to sit out these meaningless games. It wasn't worth risking injury. Right now, they just wanted to beat Lymantatia and make that trip to Havl, where they expected to lose anyway.

The Olympics were coming up. Although no hosts bids had yet been finalized, it was heavily rumored that some city in Liventia would be the sole serious bidder for these games. Rumor had it that the city of Petrograd in the Federation of Free Republics had contacted the Olympic Council about bidding (OOC: This is an IC explanation for the Free Republics not entering the Olympics. I have no intention nor desire to bid for that.). When they were rebuffed by the Council, the "Federation Government" had announced that Free Republics, with their athletes that were supposedly superior to everybody else, would be boycotting the Olympics once again. They would not even allow some team of third-rate Republican youth athletes to enter, like the Republican team that had just been eliminated from the BoF in the group stage. The Republican publication Sporting World had already become infamous internationally for their incompetent soccer reporter Nova Hellstrom and now they had penned an article denouncing the Olympics and announcing that the Republican Games would be held in Petrograd as a competing "Olympics" only involving their own athletes. Sporting World was fast becoming the laughing stock of the international sports world and most of the world probably wished the arrogant Republicans would just go back to their own nation and stay there.

That was almost certainly not to be as Republican politics were fast moving in a more expansionistic direction, with the FFR determined to establish colonies around the multiverse. The Republicans were seemingly willing to use any means necessary to colonize "inferior" nations, but at least for the moment, they weren't starting any wars. It was fortunate for foreign nations that they cared very little about international sports, because one particularly ugly match comparable to the typical Saintland VS New Sideburn match could spark a war, if anybody in the FFR cared. Fortunately for Saintland's national security, the Republicans considered Saintland a worthless arctic island and had no interest in conquering that island. Indeed, King Paulus XV had recently met with the Republican Consuls and they had agreed that the FFR would guard Saintland's national security. An act of war against Saintland would be considered an act of war against the Federation of Free Republics and nobody in their right mind would want to go to war with them. There were some discussions about a regional alliance and strengthening ties with other nations in the region, but so far those discussions had not yet amounted to much. Many in the region sensed that this was the calm before the storm and both Saintland and the FFR were soon going to be very important players in international politics, but only time would tell.

A Recap From the Past Two Games

Due to widespread power outages that struck Polkopia during the last two days, we were unable to keep the public updated on the status of the Polkopian National Hockey team, but we're back! Since the power outages, Polkopia once again faced Byfugland, who, along with Thatius, has proved to be Polkopia's largest rivals throughout the group stage. Polkopia managed to hold off Byfugland, resulting in a 0-0 draw. The Polkopians played Levivania the next day, and managed an easy 3-0 victory. Unfortunately for Polkopia, the team has dropped down to second place, but it shouldn't be a concern facing Polkopia, as long as the team manages to secure that position.

In the first game, Coach Kamakasov had started the first string goalie, defense, and offense, in a desperate attempt to beat Byfugland. Although the ending result was not as he had originally planned, the coach had expressed his gratitude for the defense, who had successfully warded off countless attacks from the Byfugland team. Defender Ivan Nuev was especially praised, as he single-handedly warded off a dangerous attack that was seen from three members of the Byfugland team. With incredible speed and brilliant wit, he managed to intercept a pass that was passed right in front of the goal, and would have certainly resulted in a goal by Byfugland if Nuev hadn't intervened.

In the next game against Levivania, the Polkopian team faced little difficulty against the unranked team. Coach Kamakasov had decided to give the first string a break, as he was satisfied with how they had performed the game before, but he decided on keeping in the first string offence, due to the fact that he wanted to see them perform exactly the way he wanted them to. Forward Roman Shotov, who failed to impress last game, had made up for the game before, scoring all three goals against Levivania, with an assist from Ott Yarlov, and two from Fernando Hemmingway.

In the next game against the Free Swiss States, the coach has decided to substitute the third-string offense while keeping in the first-string defense. When asked why this was, the coach stated that he "Was more focused on playing a defensive game against the Free Swiss States rather than worrying about scoring."

The Journal of Useless Research takes on the age-old question: what makes a good goal song?

According to our crack team of guys with headphones in, a good goal song should be:

*Catchy, and this pretty much overrules all other considerations. That said, if you're still here...

*We argued a lot over this next one (it gets back to the game-at-different levels type thing), but a slim majority believe that it shouldn't be custom-made. Sure, for a college it's one thing to have a pep band song you can launch into or just play the taped version of, but for a pro team it's really difficult to pull that off without sounding cheesy.

*At the same time, you don't want completely distracting lyrics either. Sure, go on about generic greatness or forthcoming domination, but not what you're doing in the bedroom.

*Something that, while exciting, isn't so heartfelt that it suffers from being tinnily blasted over the intercom or hummed out by a revved-up crowd.

*Ideally, maybe not something that pins it down to any given era, either, be that self-consciously "computer"esque or more old-school. In the opinion of those of us who worked on this, they're almost able to form a very small genre of their own (some of our colleagues disagree, which is their loss).

Who wins out, among Plutoni's teams? The defending-champion Western Jacks are the consensus choice, though that may have been more based on their first title, and the Downtown Divers' theme has long been popular. At the other end, none of the Open Division's all-human teams put in a very good showing at all, and expansion team Nuusuburban IHC is similarly awful. The Northern Pinnacles had a good thing going when they won the league in season ten, but by the time they were back on top in season thirteen, had stupidly substituted in something new. Come on, what's your problem?

The Demons' is, on its own merits as a piece of music, actually quite good but a little too metrically complex for a crowd of hockey fans (no offense). The Gunners', for their part, is a bit too high-pitched and shrill for people's ears. Let's put it this way, every team's going to score, and every team's going to get their song stuck in people's ears. But if you play an offensive-based game like the Gunners, you will score a lot, and get earworms considerably more. Visiting fans have the right to resent most of these songs, but theirs is one of the most frequent, year in and year out.

Stick around and we might evaluate the other teams, or not. Better yet, we could try and see what the national team makes of things...

Kate wished the photographer would hurry up. It wasn't so much the nudity itself – it had been clear in the job description what was needed from the models – as the cold basement the photo studio was located in. She had to adjust the can of Sarsa several times; in order to show the full logo on the can Kat had to hold it awkwardly, with only two fingers on the can's bottom.

“It's for the World Cup of Hockey. We intend to tag along with the publicity. Sarsa! the most refreshing soda to drink while watching the World Cup.”

“YOU'LL GET SUED. THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME I'M TELLING YOU!” a member of the advertising agency's legal department yelled from the corridor, stopping momentarily to document giving this piece of legal counsel.

“This next bunch of frames are for the ad in The Gay and Lesbian News,” explained the manager, as a naked, tattooed woman with a bright pink mohawk emerged from the changing room.

Kate wasn't sure exactly who would be guilty of sexual harassment if she refused to go through with this, not to mention the possibility of becoming Homophobic Sarsa Model, Global Social Media Pariah, so she tried not to cringe as the other model pressed her breasts against her body and the photographer resumed snapping away.

But given that they faced a team that allows their daughters of Eve to sport, the victory was assured before the hardened rubber disk was dropped. Nonetheless, the "IceWolves", as the help and other such ilk have Nicolasnamed the squad, have assured that they will travel to the Equestrian States; a nation one believes is culturally superior than most; to directly compete for the Cup of the World. Quite smashing that our young men will be one of the elite iced hockey squadrons; and of course they will be gracious champions at conclusion.

Tommy's Blog

We're all glad you have a two-year-old in your fridge. We're all glad you've got jam in your ass. But what's it got to do with this blog? Precisely nothing! So yeah, we tied with Ko-oren. Yes, we're all glad we didn't lose. We're all glad we're still in second place in Group Two. But there's something bigger than that.Oh yes! It's time for another one of Murvin's stories again....

This story isn't about me going to the game, I was banned from the game due to my little mishap last time. Anyways, this story is about me trying to watch the game. So we start off at around faceoff time, I'm sitting there trying to watch the game, and my brother David came into the room. My brother was four years older than me, actually h-he still is, when this exact same thing happened to us when we were kids. What he did was so horrible, you're not allowed to keel over and die during this story. Ac-actually, you can because I won't know if you did or not. But I still said, no die-ing!

My brother came into the room and saw me trying to watch the game. He decided to play "Annoy Murvin", where he tries to annoy me in every way possible. I'll tell you what he does, he goes behind the den wall and outs his eye peeping around the edge of the wall so everytime I look over, my eye meets his eye. Blimey! Halfway through the first period, I started to get fed up with him. "Al-alright, look, this isn't fair!" I said. He's still peeping away like mad. I tried to ignore him again, but his eye is still peeping around the edge of the corner. Finally, the first period ended and I got up to get a drink so that cleared my sanity a little.

By the middle of the second period, my patience was getting low. David was still peeping around the corner. I said, "Alright now, look, this isn't funny," but he contined to try and annoy Murvin. The second period was over and third period started. That's when my brain started doing things. You know, murder as in mad-dog stuff. I went absolutely furious on David. I got up, and I ran across the room and tackled David. "GET OFF ME!" he yelled. That's when I shoved the blade of a knife in his skull...shirt.

So that was a bit of a mind fuck, wasn't it? It's not as eventful as my other stories, but since I couldn't go to the game, there was no story to happen. Anyways, we tied with Ko-oren, but we didn't lose and we're still in second place in Group Two! Horray! I posted the scoring summary below:

Maybe they're holding back! WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT?! Gah, when I post here tomorrow they're going to have jam in their ass, I swear, swear they will!

Further updates from the Journal of Useless Research:

Having talked it over, we finalized our ranking of Open Division goal songs. The Cougars' seems a little too glitzy and over-edited, making it the bottom of the top half, and the same goes for the Giants', which is just slightly better. The Endurance have probably the most polarizing song--a few of us who disliked it really disliked it, but most of the rest of us thought it was pretty good, so, sixth there. Meanwhile, third place goes to the Upper Force, whose song seems a little unoriginal, but the fans' enthusiasm more than makes up for it. The Superstars have a strange rhythm that's difficult to get into at first, but their melody is fun enough to make up for that and vault them into fourth place. The Southwest Soarers just miss out on the hypothetical playoffs, in fifth place (although since they just came, you know, thirteenth in the actual league, they'll probably take it).

Update on the Stars of the Game situation: Igor Mancebo might have been Northern Sunrise Islands' best performer, racking up a +2 as he was on the ice for both of their goals (from Frederique Blanc and Matthew Sioux). Plutoni, on the other hand, had fewer individual standouts; Greg Dimuse scored their first goal, and Tridd Lulbin came up with the late equalizer. We're probably going to give the second star to Kevin Snodly, who assisted Dimuse, but that's pretty arbitrary. Neither goalie was pressed into that many saves, so what the hey, Blanc with the third star.

Update 2: Dumb sub-editor thinks we should interchange Snodly and Blanc's orders, because Northern Sunrise Islands were really impressive getting the upset. I have to go inform her that in fact, they were the second seeds, that they should be giving us the most trouble is not that much news.

Update 3: Someone points out that binary stars exist and that, in the future, we should be using this notation to reward effective defensive lines.

Update 4: Aforementioned sub-editor points out that rewarding effective defense is just for pretentious smug guys who want to pretend that they were really deeply watching the game instead of being mainstream and celebrating the people who scored.

Update 5: Oh boy, we're getting into a fight about proper binaries (defensive lines?) versus optical doubles (is this, like two forwards when there's been a penalty so there only are two forwards, but actually we shouldn't think of them as part of a twosome?) Stupid astronomers ruining everything again.

Havl Defeats Sjovenia; Qualifies for Playoff Stage

Sjovenia – In a rematch of the match day four matchup, Havl defeated unranked Sjovenia to clinch entry into the playoff stage of the World Cup of Hockey. The defending world champions outplayed the Sjovenian squad for most of the game, with the Capital City-based team scoring six goals and holding Sjovenia to just 25 shots. However, the unranked challengers came back strong in the third period, earning two goals on consecutive powerplays. "We lost focus towards the end," said Justin Donndelinger, the team captain.

Donndelinger had a banner game, scoring two goals and earning an assists to up his tournament total to twelve points. "Shots were going in," said Donndelinger. "Sometimes it's just like that; when it rains, it pours." The captain has now led his team to three consecutive World Cup playoffs births. In fact, Havl has yet to miss the cutoff in World Cup competition. "It's a talented team," said head coach Niklas Lindberg. "We've been able to stay healthy and play well these last three tournaments, and it's great to see younger players coming up through the system."

Darryl Matousek scored the eventual game-winning goal.

Havl came out strong in the first period, limiting Sjovenia to just seven shots and dominating the opening minutes with a flurry of rebound shots. After twenty minutes, Havl had scored three goals, with Donndelinger, Fukufuji, and Matousek finding the net for the reigning champions. The dominance continued in the second, when Lecompte and Donndelinger scored in quick succession in the first half of the period. Goaltender Davis Rich continued to see few shots, and the Capital City-native had faced only ten shots by the end of the second period.

The third period saw a refocused Sjovenia put pressure on Havl after a pair of penalties on Havl defenseman Brian Beierle. The alternate captain earned an over-the-glass penalty at 4:39, and Sjovenia capitalized with a rare powerplay goal. But Beierle drew another penalty almost immediately after returning to the ice, this time on a roughing call as he tried to pry the puck away in the corner. Remarkably, Sjovenia scored another powerplay goal after Quintin Ancrum missed a pass the Havl zone. "It wasn't my best," said Beierle. "The penalties were bad, but the powerplay goals were terrible. It's a bad feeling leaving the box early." Brian Demerson restored momentum with a one-timer goal with less than five minutes to go, and Havl held on for a 6-2 victory.

With one game remaining, Havl has clinched the top spot of Group 7 by three points over Valanora. The final preliminary match will see Havl face Saintland at home in Capital City. Coverage of World Cup of Hockey XXI continues on HTVM Tuesday evening as the Havl men's ice team faces Saintland live from Sparky Stadium.

Colm Strojovic, after a bitter loss to Valanora on home by a last minute goal, was on his compartment at Chaleur, Gaspe-bound overnighttrain. After getting injured by accidentally blocking Francois Decarie's shot on the Powerplay at third period, his WCoH journey ended. He originally planned to go back to his apartment. However, after getting a message of invitation on phone from Amelie Bissonette, he decided to change his mind.

He knew that Amelie is at her place right now. It's located in a small seaside town called Port Daniel, at the southeastern part of the Gaspesie Province. After their last date back in Quebec City, she asked him whether he could visit her in her home during Summer. He, wanting for some change in routine during Summer, agreed.

During Summers, he normally went back to his place in ,Newfoundland for Summer. His parents and Norman,his brother were still living there with his(Norman's) kids. And after staying for a month or two in the Rock, he normally went back to Quebec City for start training and getting ready for the very next season. Not surprising why he didn't really spend much time with Amelie, even though they are in relationship for 2 years. He was too busy and even when they had time to meet, they only were able to do so under the confidentiality of his teammates and staff. In fact, Luc Crawford, Head Coach of his Quebec Nordiques, even gave some tips on restaurants for dates(where one or another would not be noticed).

However, people somehow started to get hold of it. It all started when it was announced that Colm would star in Amelie's debut MV. He initially was shocked by that, because not only that it could possibly bring the relationship into light, but he was completely unaware of this at all. However, he knew that this was inevitable. Someday, this should be revealed to the public.
He knew that some of his teammates(especially Michael Kesler and Maxwell Belmont-Deschamps) for the Ice Knights have started to notice this. As the time passes, more people will start knowing about this and he felt that it's better if he just reveals into public. After all, he couldn't hide it longer.
So, he decided to tell this in two weeks, when he will quickly go back to Quebec City before leaving for The Rock again.

Right now, he is in his compartment, looking at the scenery of Quebec City outside as the train was slowly on its way out of the nation's capital. It was shining as millions of stars, he thought while slowly falling into sleep.

The IceWolves after another offensive outburst of goals has taken the overall #1 seed in the WCoH playoffs (for the 6th time); and get an extra day off. They will face the lowest seeded team to survive the playin games tommorrow, meaning Qazox could conceivably play any of 9 different teams in the first round. Not to look too far ahead, but possibly Qazox could play (in order from 1st round to Finals): Cassadaigua, Plutoni, the hosts Equestrian States and Havl. Not exactly an easy road for a top seed, but if somehow the IceWolves survive that onslaught; you would have to consider this team one of the best ever.

However, considering the large salaries free agents can command, these expenses prove modest. In response to reviews, we reconsidered these results for less salaried leagues, and the findings remain statistically significant.

Statistic-minded fans should bear in mind that dead players are much less likely to record a negative plus-minus record, draw penalties, or concede goals than their living counterparts. Also, their playoff beards are less ugly. Despite this, further research is likely required for a more nuanced view of this complicated issue.

Another analysis has reexamined the cost of memorial banners, specifically. While somewhat pricey, they also pale in comparison to the rapidly-growing costs of other banners to be found in any given stadium. They must contend for space and fabric with championship banners, banners for weird divisional championships and playoff appearances and stuff, national flags, flags of other nations people are stuck sharing a league with, and more generally with retired jerseys on occasion. Creative financing can reduce all these costs; why not take a lead from parents who've turned T-Shirts into quilts, and make a championship banner out of retired numbers? Other ideas for saving on flags would be sharing a stadium with another team so you don't need duplicates, and invading the country you share a league with so you don't need multiple flags. However in both these cases the logistical difficulties associated with these solutions represent considerable expenses to be weighed in comparison.
