Havl Earns Tie Against Valanora

Canterlot, Equestrian States – In a close match, Havl’s national hockey team earned a 2-2 draw against 13th-ranked Valanora. It was the third times these teams have met in the World Cup of Hockey, and the first time since the 19th tournament. In two previous meetings, Havl had a win and a loss against the Calcuttas. Defense was on the forefront of both teams, as the Group 7 teams look to earn a spot into the playoff stage. “After our last game, we needed to tighten up on defense” said team captain Justin Donndelinger, referring to the 8-4 victory over Lymantatia on Saturday. “[Valanora] played a great game, and I'm happy to get out of this one with a point.”

Davis Rich held Valanora to two goals.

Right-winger Jason State earned his first goal of the tournament on the powerplay in the first period. Later in the second, Valanora center Voronthal Falasumé deflected a pass from Balafindien Lanethdal to tie the game. With less than two minutes left in the second, Valanora took the lead with a goal from Imenien Lithloth from the point. It was a tense third period as the Calcuttas tried to cling to the one-goal lead against an aggressive Havl squad. Havl outshot Valanora 10-2 in the third, but Valanora goaltender Suiadan Lasséseth frustrated the defending champions. Finally, with five minutes to go, Havl right-wing Adam Fleer popped the tying goal through Lasséseth's pads from the crease. The teams battled frantically in the closing minutes, but the final score remained 2-2. “They’re a good squad,” said coach Nicklas Lindberg. “[Valanora] has a strong history in the World Cup. They're one of the teams that has a strong chance of advancing from this group.”

In tournament group play, Havl stands second in Group 7 with a win an a tie. They lead Valanora in the goal-differential tiebreaker. The Royal Kingdom of Quebec leads the group on the strength of two wins. "It's going to be tight," said defenseman Brian Beierle. "Only two teams advance from each group, so we can't take a single game for granted."

7 YEARS AGO

Adam DesLauriers shifted the bulky box in his arms as he reached for the doorknob. He was leaning back and barely managed to get a hand on the knob. Once he actually turned it, he could only use his body to push the door open. He shuffled across the room with some haste and planted the box down on one of the beds. Today was move-in day at Yzerman College and Adam had landed a hockey scholarship. He stared out the window at the bustling city before him. Skyscrapers dotted the landscape and every street and sidewalk was bustling. It was a change of pace from Sorochuk and Mt. Dostoyevsky. Those two cities still had about a million people combined, but that was nothing compared to Yzerberg's 8.5 million.

The door opened again and another student sporting a rather dapper looking moustache walked in. He had with him a hockey bag as well as a small suitcase. "Greg Moore," he said dropping the bag and extending his hand.

Adam shook it and stated his name before continuing, "I suppose you're here to play hockey too."

"Yeah, I played out in Lindsborough. I hear they got a whole bunch of new recruits this year. Tryouts are gonna be tough."

"I heard the same. Well, I'm not too worried. If I play hockey the way I can, I should be able to make it."

"You're from up in Sorochuk, aren't you?"

"You guessed by the ego, didn't you?"

"Bingo."

Moore smirked and continued to unpack his things. Adam got back to his items soon after. Greg seemed like an okay guy. Probably a workhorse, too. Those coaches sure would like him. But Adam was more worried about making the team for different reasons. He went to a school of hockey in Mt. Dostoyevsky. It was run by a big time coach, Vaclav Barkov.

13 YEARS AGO

Adam moved gracefully down the ice with puck on stick. He turned on the jets to burn the last defender and get alone with the goalie. He used a simple deke he had recently learned to score aginst the goalie. His fellow teammates for this particular scrimmage crowded him in a sea of sky blue practice jerseys. They all thought Adam was the man. He would surely go far some day.

As he took his seat on the bunch, Adam received a comment from his coach, Vaclav Barkov, "Good play, Adam. That's what needs to happen every time."

After 5 years of instructing Adam, Barkov had become particularly close to the DesLauriers family. He often came over for dinner, they went to parties together, and he was eventually considered a family friend. He had always been a good coach to Adam. Young DesLauriers wasn't too much of a hockey player or even a skater, but he was willing to work hard, which is what made Barkov take him under his wing. After the year went by, Adam was one of the best players anyone ever saw.

11 YEARS AGO

That all changed on Adam's 14th birthday. Vaclav had been to the party and enjoyed himself as did everyone else. He got in his car and drove off. That would be the last time Adam would see him. It was unknown to the DesLauriers' until they received a call from Vaclav's borther, Alex.

"Vaclav was in a car accident. A drunk driver from the Founding Day Festival downtown hit him. He didn't last very long at the hospital. He did have some final words for Adam. He said, 'Adam, you have too much talent and it would be a shame if it all went to waste. When you turn 18, attend Yzerman College and make the team. That is all I ask of you.' It seemed strange that he talked as if Adam was there, but nonetheless, that's what he wanted to tell you."

"I promise," Adam said. Though he couldn't promise to Vaclav, he said it for his own benefit. Those words echoed in his ears for a long, long time.

Adam adjusted the picture of his family on his nightstand. He reached into the box and pulled out one more. He set on the nightstand. Vaclav.

0345 hours Republic Time (UTC+8), 3 June 2012.2

With the game against Torisakia having just ended four hours prior, the men of the Gyatso-kai National Ice Hockey Team were already being shuffled off to the next game. At least they could enjoy a few hours of rest on one of the more cushy planes in the GyatsoAir fleet...

Kal Skirata stared out the window, his mind transfixed upon the past few months. In that time, he had gone from being a successful hockey player bent on proposing to the love of his life, to a bachelor forward deep in a rut just spinning his wheels.

How did this all happen?

He thought of his ex-girlfriend; and found himself at first struggling to remember her name. It had been a rather rough few months for the twenty-one year old, and this had to be the first time he had ever found it difficult to recall her name.

"Feng... Hong Chau... Call me Hong"

He remembered the first time he saw her. It was back in secondary school, during his second year. It was the first game of the season, against some random Earth Kingdom team. Skirata had found himself on the varsity team at 15 years of age; an impressive start for any player. His coach had put him in, with just two minutes left on the clock and the score 3-3. The game was tied, with the opposing defence shutting down every attempt the first and second line could muster to score the go-ahead.

As Skirata kicked a leg over the bench, he could see the puck moving in his direction. A quick shuffle brought him just ahead of the little rubber disc, and a light tap brought it under his control.

Speed. Move as the wind and strike as though lightning. He recalled his father's words as he quickly sped down the ice. The opponents quickly closed in, but some innate voice told him to spin back, and without even thinking, he had changed direction and lost two defencemen. Scanning the zone, he could just see the wings crossing the blue line and the defence picking up where they were lost.

No time, Skirata thought, moving towards the net. The goaltender was already set up, and Skirata had just seconds to react. Glancing up, he caught the deep auburn eyes of a girl sitting right on the glass, her jersey that of the opposing team. She was staring at Skirata... or so he thought ... her small hands delicately placed against the glass. Her mouth slightly agape, Skirata simply twisted his wrist, not even aware of the puck would go. As he skated infront of the net, a sharp turn of his feet brought him behind the net as the green lights flashed.

I scored.... Holy haran I scored!

Skirata spun around, his arms in the air, and took just a quick glance at the girl on the glass. She didn't look like someone's whose school had just lost the first game of the season.

She looked like a woman whose attention had been caught.

Coming back to reality, Skirata quickly glanced around, noticing all of his teammates in various forms of slumber. Save one man, each had their headphones on, heads back or to the side, and eyes shut. The only one still awake was the Ice Bison Captain, Hakoda Ishii, whose always contemplative stare was piercing right through Skirata's forehead. He knew the Captain was watching him... the Captain was always watching him; like a dragon stalking a bison, it was as though Ishii was searching for a weakness he would then exploit to destroy Skirata.

Could just be my imagination, but he doesn't seem as warm as he was before I went to the CHL...

It was the Regional Championships, and here was Skirata and the first-place Keldabe High School Frozen Strills facing that once-random Earth Kingdom school which had came from nowhere and toppled many of the secondary dynasties to make it as the second-place team in the Regional Division. They held home ice, and the bronze and green-filled seats looked as though it were a sea interspaced with random islands of blue and silver. Skirata had always hated looking at the crowd, something his teammate Wad'e Tay'haai always chidded him about.

"Kal, quit looking out there. Focus."

"Sorry, Wad'ika..."

"Don't call me that," Tay'haai punched Skirata in the shoulder. "I'm a Third Year... Anyways," he paused, looking to the MachoTron overhead, "We are tied at two each... You know what that means?"

"Time for Coach to send me in." Skirata boasted; in his first season on the varsity team, he had become known as "Cleanup Kal", thanks in part to his uncanny ability to score a goal when it mattered most. In seven of the last nine games, Skirata had scored the game-winning goal, and in the other two, he had scored the tying goal right before an Overtime victory.

"Right... Have you been watching? Their new 'miner is a bit quicker, and he favours profly."

"So I go high... Glove or stick?"

"Go stick. Harder for him to catch it."

"Are you ladies done?" The booming voice of Coack Koa'li Tillik shocked the two young men. He was a former AHL great, one of the best right wings to ever come out of Beijing, and now, in his golden years, he spent the Fall coaching an area High School before working as the Offensive Assistant Coach to the area AHL Team, so aptly named the Keldabe Strills. "If so, you have a game to win, Skirata."

"Yes, sir."

"Now remember," Tillik leaned over, a hand on Skirata's shoulder. "Take your time, scan the ice, and make a shot. Don't dedicate to it, though. If you need, take a second or third... But do NOT lose that puck."

"Sir, yes sir."

A quick hand in the air, and one of the players on the ice skated towards the bench. Skirata was quick to get on the board, and as soon as the other kid was within two metres, Skirata lept over and skated out. Play was happening in the neutral zone, and Skirata scrambled to find his position. The puck was travelling, but one of the opponents had gotten hold of it. Itsu Monaki was moving quick to intercept, and a heavy check sent the opponent down. Skirata whistled, Monaki heard it well, and quickly passed the puck down ice to Skirata.

Don't lose the puck... Don't lose the puck was Skirata's only thought as he veered a hard right and made his heading towards the goal. He was alone, just a one-on-one with the goaltender, and Skirata had always favoured those odds. As before, he scanned the ice quickly, before being caught off-guard by those same deep auburn eyes directly behind the net. He pulled his focus back in, zeroing in on the holes around the goalie, deciding where to go. A second had passed, and he made his intentions known; right shoulder. The goalie read it well, already shifting his weight.

But a goalie should never commit...

Right as Skirata turned towards his left, the goalie stepped right and raised a shoulder. Unfortunately, Skirata dribbled the puck to the left, and with a smile on his face, sent the puck sailing into an almost-open net. As he crashed into the glass in celebration, the bright green lights blinding him momentarily, he looked to the girl with the deep auburn eyes. She was wearing the same jersey as before, but a glance to her hands on the glass told a different story.

Her nails were blue and silver... Keldabe colours.

Skirata was swarmed by his teammates as the final second clicked, a horn buzzing loudly as the Kel...

"Skirata, wake up."

A hard tap on the shoulder shook Skirata from his dream. He glanced around, only to see Ishii had moved from his seat to the empty one next to Skirata.

"Huh," muttered Skirata, still half asleep, "Tion, Hakoda?"

"You were talking in your sleep... Something about blue and silver."

"Oh... Just remembering my first RC at Keldabe."

"Nice," Ishii uttered, looking a bit uncomfortable. Skirata noticed, and started to talk before Ishii spoke first. "Just never liked flying, that is all. So... How are you?"

"I am..."

"You know what I mean."

Skirata stopped, unsure of it at first, before Ishii laughed lightly.

"I was once your age, ner vod. I remember the look of confusion on my face whenever I would think of my most-recent ex."

"That obvious?"

"To me and everyone else, Kal'ika. When you going to let that hutuun chòu biǎozi go and move on?"

Skirata's Avatarian was a little rusty, seeing as he mostly spoke Mando'a, but a quick thought and sudden realisation of "smelly prostitute offspring" and he knew Ishii was calling his ex a not-so-polite name.

"Ishii, I am doing my best..."

"Doing your best? Your best would have been finding the nearest woman at the rink where you caught them screwing, bending her over a bench and having your way. Instead, you ran out of KSU Pro Day, just like your older brother..."

Skirata had forgotten about the most-unfortunate coincidence that had befallen the two young sons of Kad Skirata.

The locker room at Keldabe State University was always quite on KSU ProDay, when the graduating seniors on the team were allowed to 'show-off' infront of numerous scouts and professional coaches. With most of the guys out on the ice, Skirata had decided to take a quick break and dress down for a moment or so; his knee had been bothering him since he took a rough fall skating around campus, and the brace beneath the pads was not the most comfortable thing. He was visiting his girlfriend, Feng Hong Chau, still enrolled at KSU. The ProDay was simply a publicity stunt to show off Skirata's impressive new skills honed in the Cotdelapoms Hockey League, or CHL. It had been two years since Skirata had taken part in his own ProDay, and some of his former teammates were now seniors.

The metallic creaking sound coming from showers caught Skirata's ear; sure, he wasn't a soldier like his father, but the sense which had made Kad Skirata a great soldier were passed down to his son, simply reapplied to the ice battlefield. It was not a normal sound in the locker room, and Skirata felt somewhat obligated to investigate.

Probably a damn rat," he thought, putting his shoes back on. He walked towards the showers located on the far side of the locker room, knee brace in hand. As he got closer, Skirata could suddenly hear a whimpering noise, and a muffled voice.

Spirits be cursed, Itsuyo, Skirata cursed mentally, if you have another floosy in here just to add a knotch, I swear I will kick your shebs up and down the stairs.

Skirata pushed open the door, only to drop the brace and his jaw in horror. Yes, there was Itsuyo Ko'lek, star defenceman of KSU known around the university for being, for lack of a better word, a man whore. Yes, there was some floosy beneath him, her legs in the air and toes curling in ecstasy. However, it was the tattoo on her thigh which identified this floosy.

A hawk with a lotus gripped in its talons... Symbolising Kad Skirata's hold on Feng Hong Chau's heart.

Skirata just stood there, watching Itsuyo have his way with the woman Skirata had planned on proposing to. Instead...

He simply ran out of the room...

"So you just walk in on them chǎofàning and run away?"

"What else could I have done?" Skirata muttered, a tear forming on his cheek.

"Kick his shebs and then ditched the whore."

"Apparently," stated Skirata, almost ignoring the comment made by Ishii, "They had been sleeping together for months. She had grown tired of a long-distance relationship, and with Itsuyo in the apartment complex across the street, it was just a matter of enough alcohol and a short-enough skirt..."

"What of that tat? She still has it?

"No... Her parents own a large satomotive dealership in the south and... well... money is no option."

"Ouch... Scarring sucks."

"Actually... She has a massive eel devouring the eagle to steal the lotus... Itsuyo sent me a pic last month."

"You still talk to the shabuir?"

"No... It was the first and last message he ever sent me. Of course, the nude pictures she sent to me afterwards with him, flaunting how much 'better' he is than me..."

"And you love that soul-sucking vermin?"

Skirata sat silently, just staring at the floor of the airplane. He couldn't say, "Yes", he still loved Hong, which was a startling revelation in and of itself; for months he found himself thinking of ways to get her back, to have her back in his life. However, the grueling demands of the National team and his CHL team had left him little time to visit home.

Thankfully...

"What you need Kal'ika, is a nice girl to remind you of what women are supposed to be like. A nice Mando woman."

"Your sister?"

Hakoda laughed, holding his belly with great enthusiasm. "Oh, haran'nayc. She would kill you. Besides, she has a nice boy-toy in Republic City to keep her busy. What I am talking about, is for you to find someone your equal, who can push you around and show you how to be a man. Your mando'ad, time to start acting like it. No more dating these aruetyc Earth Kingdom women with their fancy dresses, high-priced make-up, and weekly manicures. You need a woman who is as comfortable in beskar'gam as she is in a cocktail dress. You need a woman who isn't afraid to knock you upside the head when you step out of line, but who does so with compassion and love."

"Dare I say... You may just need her."

Skirata glanced to where Ishii was pointing, a newspaper from Torisakia with the headline "ICE BIRDS DRAW THE BISON". Despite the grammer error, Skirata glanced down to the picture of Cassidy McKenzie, celebrating one of her two goals last night. She looked radiant in her uniform, something that must have skipped Skirata's mind during the game. Though, he did remember that blog about how her breasts were "as big as" one's hands. He would have been foolish to admit she did look beautiful, and it was impossible for him to deny any accidental contact made with them during the game; especially the elbowing call which he swore felt more like his elbow being swallowed by fluff.

"Please... Played one game against her."

"And you will play again. This time, on her home turf."

"What do you expect me to do? Just drop her a line, 'Oh hey, I'm Kal. Nice tits, bee-tee-dubs.'"

"No no no... Just," Ishii looked around the cabin before leaning in. "Just a simple, 'Hey. Enjoyed playing against you. Cannot wait to face you in the second leg.' You know... Friendly banter or something or another..."

"I mean..."

"No. Spend the rest of the flight writing out your little message, and then send it when we get on the ground. Haran, send it to her after we check in the hotel. You have nothing to lose."

"Yeah, except a little more dignity."

"You lost all that when Feng Swallows-a-Load-or-Twenty was screwing Itsuyo and you ran out the door. Now is the time to get some back."

As Ishii stood to leave, Skirata could not help but think this was simply a terrible idea...

22:30 Saintland Time, Chartered Flight back to Quebec

Logan Guthrie was on 17D, his assigned seat for tonight's flight. The game against Saintland ended just 2 hours ago, the Quebecois Ice Hockey Team was already on their way back to Quebec City, to play against 3rd-ranked Havl tomorrow night. They won in what was a very physical, heavily fought game, destroying the Sanctii 6-2. His eyes, once again, was on its fixture to the sky. He had a great night, but at the same time, very tiring one. He knocked 2 Sanctii down today and fought 5 times, 3 of which he won easily.
While this wasn’t that impressive compared to his bonanza against Sjovenia, he did well in spite of short playing time that day. He, unfortunately, got knocked out of a cheapshot by that Brutullius guy. It didn’t hurt him at all, but Coach Gilfoyle forced him to stay after play stoppage. He clearly didn’t want Logan to play more risking his health and possibly get a concussion. Fortunately, it turned out that he didn’t get any concussion amidst worries of the coaching staff and he was declared fit to play.
I’ll kill that bastard, Logan said to himself. When he comes to Colisee de Quebec, I will knock him out on ice instantly.

At the seat right in front of Logan, Sylvain Turcotte, at the same time, felt like he didn’t do well enough on the match. For most of the match, he seemed invisible and was unable to do much play. This, in overall, limited him to only 3 shots and an assist from a Dave Clark goal (5th on Quebecois side). He thought that he had lots to learn, or otherwise he will be waiting in the benches. Physical play wasn’t what he was best at, but he still had to get used to it. The team demanded it and there’s no way that he could escape it.

Cadance Edwards-Molsson was feeling much better about himself and his performance as a goaltender. After a dreadful performance against Sjovenia, he was very unsure about himself. He wasn’t pulled of any matchessince 2009, when the St.John’s Celtics was still at the bottom cellar of the league.
He was looking forward to see his wife, Lauren Ainslie again. After 13-years of dating the famous Quebecois singer-actress, they married in the North Point Hotel at St.John’s last week(3 days after their Prenneau Cup-clenching Game 7). With his teammates Maxwell Belmont-Deschamps, Kendall Torres and Austin Rowland in attendance, he tied his knot in what was a small but emotion-filled marriage ceremony. He was certainly happy that he was able to tie knots and spend rest of his life with Lauren.
It took them 15 years in what was a eventful love story......

The story of their love went 15 years ago, when he was a new student back in Carleton Community School at Montreal. Son of a famous novelist and a journalist, he was a very quiet, studious nerd back in the era. The only thing that he did other than studying and reading about science was playing hockey, which he started based on the recommendation of Roy Ballantyre, a friend of his back in Grade 2. At the same time, Lauren Ainslie was a popular girl, who was into singing and modern music. It seemed as if it won’t work out between them. However, it did, but gradually over the time. It all started with small things such as working on projects and preparing for tests together. Then, it grew to start spending some together at lunches and hang out in Tim Hortons for some drinks until Cadance realized that he’s falling for Lauren. Fearing that she’s not feeling the same way, he held back and avoided her for a while.
One day, Jess Ballantyre, his friend, invited him to a party where Lauren was also going to be at. Cadance surprisingly agreed to go and met Lauren at there. However, Lauren immediately ran out of the house just as he tried to reach her. Cadance ran after her and found her crying in the backyard of Ballantyre house. He asked her what happened and she replied that her mother’s killed in a very misfortunate car accident. Cadance then softly comforted her then held and kissed her. Lauren, realizing that Mr. E-M has a crush on him, told him that she also loved him. Ever since then, they were together, standing by each other in hard times and help when one needs one. Their love remained strong and bright even after they graduated university (they both went to Farrer University in Montreal for Bachelor’s Degree) and Cadance went off to play for St. John’s Celtics to pursue his career in Quebec Hockey League (QHL). Their love was strong and eventually, time came when they felt like they have to tie the knot. He proposed to her in the spectacular proposal in the final match of the regular season, when he laid his right knee on the ground and asked "Will you marry me?" in middle of the ice, right in front of Lauren.

And the rest is history.

Tommy's Blog

Today my friend Harrybo came to my house crying, and I said what's the matter? What's the matter? And he said his grandad had died. So I said "Hard luck, bitch. Always knew you were a bit weak!", and then he started crying again. So I threw him out the window. Hm. Anyways, today I don't have a ridiculous story that takes up thirty minutes of our time. But I do have an interesting, um, event that happened today. So I thought I'd share it with you all, so, uh, just read on and maybe you'll get it.

Me and my friends went to the game today, down at the Copeland Sports Arena, and a guy turned up round' our way. He said he was Cassidy McKenzie's Manager, blimey! He said, "If I hear about your blog, Cassidy's breasts, or Cassidy's breasts on your blog, if I hear about any of it once more, I shall take you to school prison. There was a prison beneth the arena were they string you up from the wallbars, PLOP! I said "Okay, sir, okay, don't worry about it.", and so we went on. We eventually got to our seats, right upfront at the boards near center-ice. Fantastic! The first period was good, yeah, it was great. Cassidy scored twice again and Alexei scored once. The best part was when Cassidy got checked against the boards were me and my friends were sitting, it was lovely! Not that I saw her breasts or anything, I didn't, yeah, I didn't. No need for me to go to school prison yet.

After the first period was over, me and my friends went to take a ~~smoke~~-nope- restroom break. On our way there, I saw this, uh, woman. She said she was a secuirty agent for the players, most of them have their own, but this woman was a guard for all of the players. She said she was looking for Murvin Alexander. That's when I get into really big trouble. I told her I didn't know who that was and that my name was George Zeyde. And she believed me! Horray! After that, we took our restroom break. Nothing really else happened, and then we went back to our seats to await the second period.

The second period was great, just great. Our defense was a little, uh, shaky. They didn't seem to quite understand what TailsPower was trying to do, much less know what they were doing. Kristen scored halfway through and that put us up by two points. But what I really loved was that fight between Cassidy and some other TailsPower player. It was right infront of where I was sitting. And yes, I saw Cassidy's tits, yes. *click* Noice. Finally, the third period started and it was uneventful. TailsPower scored a few minutes in but we held on to win. After the game, I got to talk to Cassidy again. I told her I apologized for the comments on her breasts and didn't mean for it to become a fab. She accepted my apology and gave me the rolled-up comic she beat me with in Neu Engollon, and it was signed by her! Fantastic! But then, Jessica started slapping me with a bag of metal balls. I then got and ran and ran faster than an electronic two-year-old. And everything was lovely once again, wondeful, and then we went home.

That wasn't meant to be a story, I guess I should've summarized it better. Oh well, we still won. Cassidy was the star of the game again, not that there's anything wrong with that. It really helps out the team, and our defense is getting a lot better! Cassidy's FB page is getting a lot of likes and she's becoming really popular in the country. Glad to see thing are shaping up for her and the rest of the team. Anyways, here's the scoring summary:

This was probably the best game the Ice Birds have played so far. At least defensive-wise, maybe offensive-wise. This win puts us in first place in Group Two. With the only undefeateds being us and Gyatso-kai, who played great against Sicoutimont today. Now if this win doesn't get to our heads, maybe, just maybe we can beat Ko-oren, who lost to Neu Engolln 4-3 today. They sit at last place in Group Two, with the same GA as us. Hm. Maybe they're the ones bluffing! They're hustling us. Would you believe it?! gah, when I post here tomorrow they're gonna go to school prison, I swear, swear they will!

OUR BOYS DO IT AGAIN!

After today's 1-0 win over second place Carasatoga, the Red Barons of Soviet-German Dortmund are now current leaders of Group 8 within the World Cup of Hockey 21.

The players of both sides were greeted massively and respectively by a sellout crowd of 30,000 people at the Emerald Corp. Coliseum (5,000 of which were Carasatoga's travelling fans). Scarlet scarves waved ferociously round the Coliseum and chants were abundant from both sets of fans. Despite yesterday's 0-0 draw with Michael VII the Red Barons were still undefeated, so the result of today's game was crucial.

1st Period
The game was underway and immediately Soviet-German Dortmund's defense was split with a surging pass by Carasatoga's Shane Summerlin to Erik Snow, who blitzed past Victor Großkreutz. His shot however was not an issue for goaltender Dietrich von Diesel, whose pads stopped the shot with ease. later that period, a semi-cleared puck fell to Vincent von Dracula who produced a vicious slap shot that hit the left-upright, causing goaltender Kody Kellough to scramble the puck off the line.

2nd Period
With the score at 0-0 and so few scoring opportunities the players became restless, and careless. After a few vicious checks both Ludwig Volker-König and Rick Strozier dropped the gloves and fists were aflying. Both were sent to the Penalty box. Like the 1st period there were hardly any scoring chances, unlike the 1st period however both sides were playing some brilliant and technical hockey.

3rd Period
After a fine stop by von Diesel, Captain Maximillion Silberbauer rushed forward with the puck and passed to Zitterrochen von Dortmund teammate Igor Heidrich. Heidrich's first shot was blocked by Kellough's pads, however after failing to clear the puck away Heidrich fired home into the top right-hand corner of the net. 1-0. The game ended a Soviet-German Dortmund win, critics may agree however that the game deserved to finish a draw.

Despite a draw against Torisakia at home, the Ice Bisons pulled together a late-game scramble, coming from a 5-2 defecit to defeat Sicoutimont 6-5.

"I guess we were more tired after Torisakia then we realised," spoke Captain Hakoda Ishii, whose hat trick this game helped secure victory. "The first period we were just spinning our wheels with no traction, defenceless it would seem until the second when we started to get some life breathed into us."

'Defenceless' is one word for it; with the Sicoutimont Royales scoring their first goal in less than 13 seconds, the Ice Bisons were certainly thrown off balance. Maurice Rolloton was the winner of the opening face-off, and with a series of quick steps, was able to side-step the ICe Bisons' defence and catch an unsuspecting Zhao Hotaka completely on the wrong skate. One wrist shot low and the score went 1-nil.

Following this came an impressive series of shots of goals, with 15 shots taken and 11 on goal by the Royales in the first period alone. Unfortunately for the Ice Bisons, the offensive onslaught would not end after just one goal, with Hugo Armada of the Royales third line coming in on the Kal Skirata Roughing penalty at 08:50 in the first. An impressive move by the shortest player on the Royales team; at 5'11", he stands on par with our own Beifong Lo, who is the third shortest Human player. Receiving the short pass from Maruice Rolloton, the three men of the forwards in the first PowerPlay unit --- Gaspard Richard, Rolloton, and Armada --- continued to play PigMonkey in the middle with our boys until the opportune when Ishii would accidentally screen Zhao, enabling Armada to make a one-timer on the left side of the net. With under ten minutes passed in the game and the score already at 2-nil, Head Coach Kad Skirata did not look very pleased.

However, like most coaches when faced with the time to pull a goaltender and replace him with a better option, Skirata opted to wait just one more goal, which luckily for the Ice Bisons, did not come in the first period. Despite having four penalties in the first, the Ice Bison Penalty Kill units made an impressive 3-for-4 start to the game, while the Power Play units bore a disappointing 0-for-five start.

"Sometimes, it is just hard to find those opportunities," spoke Arnook Ishida in the First Period Intermission. "You go out, move the puck around, try and get a good shot... but all you end up with is two minutes less in the game."

Going into the second period, it did not look well for our men of the ice. Instead of coming out rejuvenated and ready to score, the Ice Bisons seemed to be a bit slow on the draw, losing the opening face-off and going 4-for-11 on face offs in the period. With Rolloton striking the net again at 4:25, Skirata wasted no time in pulling Zhao. In what was a historic moment for the Ice Bisons, Shao "Sleethoof" Moon skated onto the ice, becoming the first Equine player in the history of Gyatso-kai.

However...

It seemed Rolloton wanted to welcome Sleethoof into the World Cup in a fashionable manner, and at the 6:10 mark, would bring the score to 4-nil. Ice Bisons fans would be screaming in their seats, throwing food and drink at the nearest trash receptacle and making their unhappiness known. Skirata was quick to call a time-out, and have a rather boisterous conversation in Mando'a with the team; while many could not hear the conversation, from our own grasps of Mando'a, it seems he called the players many colourful terms for "lazy" and "good for nothing" and "lackluster".

Whatever was said though, seemed to put a fire under the pot, and with Ishii and Tay'haai paired on the power play, would see the score change 4-1 at 8:22. Near the end of the period, the skills of Kal Skirata would be put on, as he made a neutral zone steal from Julio Archambault to take on Etienne Goubert 1-on-1, with the usual deking of Skirata nowhere to be seen; just a sharp right followed by hard shot left. Thankfully, the puck hit the upright and rebounded into the net, with a joyous Skirata taking a small moment to celebrate by sheathing his stick.

Up now with two goals, the momentum of the Ice Bisons was cut short by the second period buzzer, and going into a heated locker room, the Ice Bisons were down 4-2 against a rather offensively minded Sicoutimont. With no media allowed in the locker room, ASPN was unable to hear exactly what conversations were held or what rituals were performed, but by the sounds of the floor pounding, a boisterous round of Vode An must have been sung.

Into the third, the Ice Bisons seemed to take on a whole new lookout; skating quickly onto the ice and forming at center. The momentum from the second period would not initially carry over, as on a breakway towards the goal, Arnook Ishida would lose the puck right in the neutral zone, to which Seamus Sinclair would pick it up, pass it along to Desjardins who would then score with just 3:01 on the clock. At 5-2, having allowed 2 goals in his first international cap, Skirata had no choice but to pull Sleethoof and send back in Zhao; while he started the game off terribly, Zhao would finish by blocking 15 shots of goal in eighteen minutes. A brief bit of luck would come in Skirata's second goal of night, a blue-line snipe by the young Mandalorian would blind-side Goubert and see him pulled from the net with the score 5-3 at 5:02; sending in Louis Lefay for the last fifteen minutes

With nothing but time left, the Ice Bisons seemed to pull it together for the last half of the period. Starting off with Kuruk Ikeda's first goal since his return to the Ice Bisons' starting line-up, the score would be 5-4 at 10:21 ; starting in his own zone, Ikeda would steal a puck from Desjardins before moving it up centre. A pass to Sato Sorua would see the puck cross into the Royales' zone, while a far-pass would see Ito Pakku garnish control of the puck before setting up Ikeda for the one-timer. A goal from the third line is rarely to be expected, however, with Ikeda coming back into his form, perhaps this Cup we will see him return to the Second Line.

With the score 5-4 and just nine minutes left, the Ice Bisons had some ground to cover. Playing a much cleaner game than in the first two halves --- just three penalties called against the Ice Bisons and one against the Royales --- the match turned into a show of skill, as each team vied for control. At 15:30, it would be Ishii who gained control, bringing the puck from home zone into the Royales' territory. A few passes to Tay'haai and Ishida would see the Royales spread the defence out, which is exactly what Ishii wanted as he made a break for the crease. Coming in, a quick pass from Tay'haai through the defence would place the puck right on the edge of the net, with a quick poke by Ishii to bring the match to a tie.

It would be Ishii again in the final two minutes of the period, desperate for a win and needing his team to advance in the standings. A rousing ovation by the few Gyatso-kaian fans in attendance would be the electricity needed to energise Ishii and the men to a strong finish. At 19:12, the Royales pulled Lefay, sending on Charles Sarualon for the sixth man, increasing their already powerful offence. The Ice Bisons simply responded in kind, playing a more aggressive, defensively-minded game. With nothing but one-timers and rebounds coming at Zhao, it would be a lone shot off his left pad which would push the puck wide to Tay'haai whose quick thinking sent the puck to a blue-line waiting Ishii to gather it up. With puck on stick, it was time to show the world just what the fastest skater in Gyatso-kai can do when given the room to move. As Ishii blazed ahead, he cleared the Royales blue line, two Sicoutimont defencemen in tow, only to have them watch as a pure wrist shot sent the puck into the back of an empty net.

It doesn't matter how the goal was scored. What matters... is the final score.

Coming home to the Tribal Saddledome, the Ice Bisons are set to face-off against the unranked TailsPrower. Sure, an unranked team for us usually means an easy win, but TailsPrower has been putting up quite a fight against higher ranked teams. Perhaps this will be a challenge.

The boys cannot let down, cannot allow their guard to slip, and most importantly, cannot lose.

NARSORA CITY, NARSORA- After losing to Tursasia in a hartbreak one-point loss yesterday, the Jaguars rebound and hold their opponent to no goals to win 1-0. Narsora moves up to 2-0-1 and second place in Group 9, behind Kelssek who lost to Thrilledge 2-1 today. Attacker Apólito Mota Alfaro scored the only goal for the Jaguars, as Ademaro Perea Raya and Rocky Pippin have both put up a great effort on defense. Not too mention Saverio Camacho Ponce's work as goalie. What follows in the scoring summary

Next up, the Jaguars play against Lzherusskia at Jaguar Wells Arena in Narsora City. Lzherusskia, who beat Tursasia 2-0 today, sits at fourth place in Group Nine. Narsora argueably has one of the best defenses in WCoH 21 right now, however the offense isn't too god either. Only scoring 1 goal in the three games they've played. After that, Narsora plays Kelssek, one of the best teams(if not, the best) team in Group Nine.

Polkopian Hockey Team Leads Group After 6-3 Win Against Levivania

After the third day of the World Cup of Hockey, the Polkopian National Hockey team can now breathe a sigh of relief, as the team now stands at the top of their group, reaching a total of seven points. They currently lead the team(s) tied for second place, which include Byfugland and Sel Appa by a single point. The team once again, had proven their might and teamwork, as they remain undefeated in the group stages.

"In all honesty, we were pretty much all expecting to win this one, given the fact that we seemed to play so well last game, against Byfugland." Said Polkopian offender, Boris Feltsov, who had yet to start in the team's starting lineup until tonight, where he scored the final goal. "We all figured if we could do it then, we can do it now."

Three goals were scored in the first period, two of which came from Polkopia, and the other one, coming from Levivania. The goals scored in the first period were both scored by Polkopian starting offender, Roman Shotov, with one assist coming from Arham Ivonivich, and the other one coming from defender, Igor Sputnov, who earned his first assist in the World Cup of Hockey. The Polkopian team started a new goalie, giving Yuri Sviatoslavich a one-day break, and putting Mikhail Olofsdotter in his place. Olofsdotter received critiques from both perspectives, one side stating that he should have saved more than he did, and the other side stating that it was the defense's fault for allowing such plays to commence. Either way, two more periods were to allow Polkopia to secure a 6-3 lead against Levivania, with Shotov, Hemmingway, and Polkowski leading the team in goals scored against the team.

Match day 4 will have Polkopia face off against the Free Swiss States, yet another unranked team. The Polkopian Hockey coach, Yuri Kamakasov will focus on a more defensive play, keeping in Polkopia's starting defenders, while substituting in new offenders for the team's usual starters. Will this be the right course of action for the coach to take? We'll find out tomorrow!

The Saintland National Ice and Field Hockey Team had just defeated Sjovenia 4 goals to 1. Following the end of the game, they went right to the airport and got on their plane to Lymantatia for the following day's game.

Ioannes Laetonius - I was rusty. When your the backup to the captain, you don't get much playing time.

Prince Josephus - Speaking of backups, I should have put some backups on our roster.

Like a redwood tree, the Firs' Thijs Lauritsen stood tall and shutout Qazox 1-0. But if not for the incompence of the referees, Polar Islandstates would've won 50-0. Seriously? calling a penalty for having too many men of the ice or one for hitting a player in the head with a stick? Is this baby hockey now? And since when has helmets become mandatory? Dammit my grandfather played hockey in the old days of the Aglukark-Cherry Cup, when players were expected to wear nothing but maybe a sock for modesty. And both ends of the ice where located atop a 3 mile-high razor-wire laden melting ice sheet. Sharks with chainsaw teeth swam in the pond they used for penalties; and the only way you got one of those was if you survived being doused in acid by the fans with more than 10% of your skin left on you. Bah! Enough of these wimps as the IceWolves now ready to be pelted with apples galore at Cassadaigua. A small suggestion to the Cassadaiguan fans, if you are fans of old-time hockey, lace those apples with contact-explosives or razor blades or even throw rocks instead.

Fearless philosopher Malcolm Peabody tackles another hard-hitting topic in this Journal of Useless Research: the penalty box!

Hockey is a fast-moving game. Even having multiple officials on the ice, it's a full-time job to keep track of the whizzing puck and 10 12 players on the ice.

Well, at most 12. For you see, players are frequently sent to the penalty box, and without officials guarding them, it is only the short periods of their isolation that keep them from developing resentful attitudes towards society. It is heartening to report that, when they rejoin their rule-abiding fellows on the ice, there exists a strong support system to help them reintegrate into the world of hockey. However, even these supporters run the risk of alienating their misbehaving stars. Fans who yell "always were!" in response to the announcer's call of "full strength" are implying that the penalized player did not matter, and such unwelcoming attitudes can contribute to bitter feelings on the part of players trying to rehabilitate themselves.

This is compounded in the rare situations when goaltenders are penalized. Instead of serving their penalties themselves, they tend instead to delegate teammates to do so for them, obviously inspiring feelings of entitlement and resentment (respectively). Moreover, netminders sheltered from the brutal realities of the "sin bin" (as it has become known in countercultural slang) may feel brazen enough to continually push the limits, so long as they are not directly experiencing the consequences of it.

While perhaps rehabilitory in purpose, the culture of the penalty box sadly breeds violent rhetoric. Witness teammates of the penalized players attempting to "kill the penalty." Their opponents are scarcely much better, deriving "power" through the temporary player advantage. Should they score a goal on this "power play," the players are returned to the ice without consideration for whether they have reformed their ways through serving the full term, with their isolation time instead a function of the luck of a goal.

Will conservative rulemakers continue to follow blind tradition, or has the time come to reform these policies? Only brave action can be the first step towards change.

Mobian Times Sports Update

Day 3 summary:

Head coach Tokiko Fukuzawa was bombarded with questions this afternoon with regards to the recent 3-4 loss to Torisakia. Fukuzawa had this to say. "I'm not thrilled with our start to the tournament. I see troubles for our team if we do not make changes to our line-ups along with defining what makes us a team. I have said in the past we are a defensive team, and I would like to remain a defensive team in the futre. The only good thing going for us right now is the fact that all of our games have been decided by one goal." Our intern, Kika Honda, at the Mobain times asked Fukuzawa what he meant by line-up changes and this is what he had to say: "Well I think it's pretty obvious goaltending wise. I don't mean to put Yoshizawa down, put I believe giving him a rest will spark some light in our teams success along with a few other roster changes." Later at the press conference, Fukuzawa stated that he'd release a starting line up for the Mobian International team later today.

Taking full advantage of mistakes made by the blisteringly quick offense of The Stars, two goals were made during the break-away during the first period. There isn't always a benefit to trying to get into scraps, and he needs to grow up. I will be taking big steps to improve this team and increase our campaign performance. No player should believe they are safe from the scratch-list".

Well, here we are again. Yesterday we did not even complain about the two losses, and today we are not even going to complain about the three losses. That's right: Ko-oren lost against Neu Engollon and there is a gap of six points between the Greenblues and any other team (except TailsPrower, who are on 0 points too). But let's take a moment to contemplate our situation, and let's find the good point in all this. We can already say that there is no good side to this, but once we're done with being sad about ourselves, there is always a sliver of hope left in talking about teams who are doing even worse. It took us a while to compile a list of teams that are doing worse, but we found them.

Group 4: Maximus Bush and Shadowbourne
Group 4 is a lot like our own Group 2. In some aspects, at least. Maximus Bush and Shadowbourne are on zero points, with GD's of -6 and -12. What is a difference between Groups 2 and 4 is that the first team above the zero-point teams 'only' had three points, and therefore it is possible to overtake them within one match day. So in a sense, their situation is a lot more hopeful than ours (Ko-oren needs two victories and a few extra goals to become fourth). On the other hand, this group has two teams on nine points, so the extremes are a lot larger. But still, they have a hope of getting to fourth place. Not really a good example to forget about our own misery.

Group 5: Kriegiersien
Yes, there they are. That team. That we've played so often in recent months. But they are last in Group 5, and with four(!) teams on six points, this group is pretty equal. With two victories, Kriegiersien are with this group too, and with one victory they can overtake Galnius in fifth place. So again, despite the worse GD, this team has a lot more to fight for, knowing that the difference between them and the group's four top teams is actually minimal.

Group 6: Sovetskya
They have a GD of -10 and are close to Shadowbourne. This group is a lot more divided, with two teams on 4 points but for the rest, every team has a gap between it. Mapletish leads by two points, then a three point gap, then the two teams on four points, then another three point gap, and then there is Mangolana and Sovetskya. Mangolana has a point, so they will be ignored for this. Sovetskya also has scored 6 goals. This might not seem much, but Slembana, Atelia and Mangolana all scored 2 or 1 goal(s) and for some reason two of these three won a game. Consider Atelia: 1 goal scored, one game won. Sovetskya can find some solace in the fact that this group might be divided in points, in reality everything seems to be possible here.

Group 7: Sjovenia
I almost do not want to consider this team. They are last by three points, but one win can catapult them to fourth place. They do concede five goals per game on average, but then again they have scored as many goals as the runner-up in this group. And they hardly have a worse GD than us.

Mapletish 7–2 Sovetskya

Tearing the Sovetskya's defences down, the Minnows pulled together an amazing match to bring the game towards their favour with a massive 5 goal haul in the third period. The Minnows built on their home ground advantage as they come out top against Sovetskya that threw men forward and expect something to happen.

It was a defence error in the first period after Sovetskya broke the Minnows' defence early in the first period in less than 30 seconds, the Minnows were one goal down, at least not as bad as Gyatso-kai whose defences were broken in less than 13 seconds against Sicoutimont. The Minnows were thrown off guard with Sovetsyka streaming forward like brainless chickens but they somehow manage to do something productive, getting goals.

"The team was still recovering from the bruises from Mangolana before their match against Sovetskya, it explains why errors have been became more common among the team,'' explained Andie Ferdie in a post match interview, who recorded a top skating speed of 45km/h in the match, faster than any other player in the match alone. Combined with top speed and passing, he notched up 4 assists in the match, which played a key role in the Minnows' turnaround against Sovetskya.

The first period went neither way after the first goal by Sovetskya as the game dragged on with mis-shots and a series of misplayed passing moves that could have resulted in a goal for the Minnows. With the game dragging on, head coach Wilson didn't seem pleased but he stood patiently relaying instructions to the players on the bench. However much to his disappointment, his attempts weren't fruitful as the score stayed at 1-0 for the first period.

The second period came on, prospects were better for the Minnows. Despite having to play with two goals down after the away team grabbed another goal earlier in the second period, the Minnows played on with a great sheer of determination. This time the PowerPlays and passing moves started to get smoother. Despite that with Sovetskya rushing for the pluck, passes were often made under immerse pressure.

The Minnows however did not let the pressure from Sovetskya affect their play, as they grabbed two goals back in the period to help lighten up the tension on the rink with the goals. it was a breathtaking period for Wilson with his instructions all seemingly getting into the minds of his players and converting to goals in the game.

The third period came and it was a lively period with an array of passes and shots on goals with the away team obviously down on fatigue, chasing down every single pluck. As predicted, the guest started to go down with a conservative mindset, shooting from range and missing every single shot on target. This gave chance for the Minnows to take on the space amongst the away team. This match indeed showed Group 6, the dominant force of the Minnows, despite the intimidating nickname.

Close but still a victory

THE SOVA EMPIRE- The Canuckistani WCOH 21 team beat The Sova Empire today by a close margin of 3-2.The Sova Empire started off the scoring in the first at 5:05 with a beautiful shot by Christen Halvdan to put them up 1-0. The Canuckistanis quickly responded with van Key and Mistrenko scoring two quick goals at 8:01 and 9:23 to just squeak ahead and to end the first period with a score of Soviet Canuckistan 2, The Sova Empire 1. In the second period, the Canuckistani team furthered their lead with an amazing one-timer by LaTrappe off a pass from Smith. The only response from The Sova Empire was a goal that just snuck past Prefontaine by Ludvig Lars in the dying minutes of the period at 17:23. With the Canuckistani team up 3-2 going into the third, the cries from the hometown fans of "Wreck-it Ralph" weren't enough to beat the Canuckistanis.

Yesterday, our reporter, Vyecheslav Sinotrev on the road following the team had this interview with Head Coach Vanier Oloski.

Sinotrev: How do you think the team has played so far this tournament?

Oloski: Well, we've had good offence and the defence and goaltenders aren't letting much past. They're not taking stupid penalties out there and are avoiding injury, so I'm happy.

Sinotrev: What do you think about the group you got drawn into for this tournament?

Oloski: It's a good group, not too difficult but also not to easy. If we make the playoffs, we should be ready for the challenge there. This group is a great warmup for that.

Sinotrev: Are you going to try out anything new this tournament?

Oloski: Probably just a bit more of a focus on playing offensively and I'll start to play Albanski more, even though he's our backup, he's a great goaltender that will help us to win games.

Sinotrev:Were there many challenges in the lead up to this tournament.

Oloski:Just mostly the usual injuries, however they didn't affect us as much as Mr. Plamondon-Piquette's illness. He contracted a fairly bad virus about a month and a half before the tournamnet and is still trying to fight it. That put a bit of a damper on team morale and training.

Havl Defeats Royal Kingdom of Quebec; Leads Group

Colisee de Quebec, The Royal Kingdom of Quebec – In an game that Havl head coach Nicklas Lindberg called one of the biggest of the tournament so far, Havl defeated the Royal Kingdom of Quebec to take the lead of the tournament group. Undoubtedly, the star of the night was World Cup 20 MVP goaltender Davis Rich, who returned to classic form by earning his first shutout of the tournament. "It was definitely a tough game," said Rich. "[The Royal Kingdom of] Quebec is a powerful team, but our defense kept their shots to a minimum." Havl outshot the Ice Knights 35-25, and Quebec goaltender Cadance Edwards-Molsson faced steady pressure throughout the 60-minute game.

Brian Beierle notched the eventual game-winning goal.

The story of the night was the parity between third-ranked Havl and 31st-ranked Quebec. "I've said it before, but this is going to be a very competitive group," said Lindberg. "There's no room for an off game." Although both teams played hard from the first puck drop, there were only four penalties throughout the game. "[Both teams] were playing like it was a playoff game," said Havl defenseman Brian Beierle, who scored the first goal of the game in the second period. "It was good, clean hockey with a lot on the line." Although it's still early in the tournament, both coaches acknowledged that Havl and Quebec are among the favorites to advance to the playoff stage. "Between us, [Quebec], and Valanora, probably," said Lindberg. "But again, you never know in this tournament."

The third period saw inspired play by Havl's scoring lines, including Gilles Lecompte's first goal of the tournament on a crisp pass from team captain Justin Donndelinger. "It felt good," said the Davenport native. "We were a goal ahead at that point, so it gave us some insurance." Later in the third, Quebec winger Colm Strojovic's goal was waved off due to a late whistle. "It's a bad feeling," said Davis. "You want to keep the shutout, but you know in your heart that the puck went in."

When the buzzer sounded, both teams shook hands on the ice. Havl goaltender Davis Rich skated over to talk to Edwards-Molsson before the Ice Knights headed to the locker rooms. "It felt like a playoff game," said Rich. "I just wanted to say 'good game,' because I know we're going to be playing this squad again next week.'" The Capital City Captains goalie continued his streak of strong play, earning his sixth-career World Cup shutout. "With competition like this, it's hard to believe what we've been able to accomplish over the years," said Rich. "When we're playing well, you can't beat our defense; I don't often have to face an odd-man rush or a breakaway."

"I'm here, Magda. I hear you. Hello, Neu Engollon!"

"Welcome to you, Coach Le Houne. So, real quick, how do you think the team is holding up with this intense traveling schedule and how is it effecting their performance?"

"I think they're doing just fine. We had some moments at the start of adjustment, but we're over that hump now, and sailing on. Some of the lads are young and new to tournaments, let alone International play. They're settling in to the routine now, of hopping back and forth and getting set for the next opponent. As you can see by the last two games."

"Yes, we're quite pleased that things have turned around. I hope it stays that way. Do you think the Ibex stand a good chance against the rest of your group opponents?

"Magda, we're gonna do what we can. We're focusing on core strategies and attacks. Keeping the puck near their net as well as disrupting their attacks and passing, passing and more passing. We had part of that down this last match against the Greenblues, but our defense seemed to be a little complacent with Ko-oren returning on the counter-attack. Teradi and Doldand should never have been able to move in that close to Bassati on the first two goals."

"Yeah, that definitely was apparent with the slips in defense. So, again, what about Sicoutimount and the Avatarians?"

"Well, I don't know what to say. We'll do our best. They're professionals and ranked 20 and 5 in the world, respectively. Honestly, a lot of our boys are barely in college. Remember Lake Placid - the young American team versus the Soviet juggernaut?"

"Yes, the Miracle on Ice, wasn't it?"

"Yeah, we'll need that... 4 times in a row."

Game 3 Reflection-Why did Quebec lose?

Well, as you know, Royal Kingdom of Quebec Ice Knights lost to Havl in a 2-0 shutout last night. We were horrible at that match and were severely outplayed by the defending Champion of the World Cup of Hockey. This shouldn't be surprising, for Quebec's slightly behind from being a Cup contender. For many, on the other hand, it was a very disappointing match. After playing so well against punching bag teams, they poorly performed and lost. Well, both of those are right.

Then, why were we outplayed so badly compared to previous two matches? Well, there are 2 main reasons behind why.
Firstly, the opponents were far too good for us. Their defense was very good, shutting down the forwards effectively and irritating many. Not to mention their stunning, very strong offense that often outpaced our exhausted, inexperienced defensemen.
It wouldn't have been surprising if they lost in any blowout scores last night. After all, they just won the World Cup of Hockey last year and is third in the World Rankings. The only reason why didn't lost was thanks to Etienne Park.
Etienne Park played very well, saving 34 out of 36 shots, including his save of an one-timer from Justin Donndelinger's slapshot, which he did with the tip of his pad. While he was outplayed by the opponent goaltender, who posted his first shutout of the cycle with 32 shots saved, he was very significant in preventing a blowout loss.

Secondly, the Ice Knights were too exhausted to play well. The Ice Knights, after a very challenging match against Saintland the night before, seemed to be in extreme fatigue.
"The guys seemed like they're very tired by the end of match," commented Lionel Demers, the asssistant coach of the Ice Knights,"to such an extent that they were clearly lagging behind Havl on puck possession and speed." While Mr. Demers' words were right, he forgot to acknowledge that they were too physical on wrong opponents. The Ice Knights unfortunately spent too much energy beating up those Sanctii, leaving them very tired.

Moving on, the Ice Knights are on road again, to battle the Calcuttas from Valanora on Stomguard Arena. At this moment, Valanora is this group's only genuine competitor for the playoff berth, with Havl almost guaranteed into the playoff stage.This will be a very important match for Quebec.
While the Ice Knights previously beat them 4-3 in last cycle with a game-clencher from Hindmarsh Yoon at the last minute, It should be recognised that the Ice Knights of now is not as strong as it was on Kelssek last time. Not to mention that the team was outplayed for most of the game and were trailing behind for much of the time.

No need to shout. No need to yell. No need to have a riot. It's just a game. It doesn't matter, we'll try again soon...is what I'm trying to get people to understand. So we lost, big deal. So we lost to a nation who was winless and in last place, does it really matter? So we aren't in first place in Group Two anymore, it doesn't matter. Any if you're still bummed about it, here's a song to cheer you up.

I can remember a time when I was bummed that we lost a game we should've won. After that game, my dad said there weren't going to be anymore gingers on the team. There weren't going to be anymore rapstars. That was, 20 years ago. Now, we still have gingers and rapstars. Is that what made us lose? Or is it that we tried to hard? Either way, a loss is a loss. We have to face facts, we weren't good enough. Ac-actually, it was the defense's fault. But we should blame everyone, starting with Cassidy. Let's not blame Kevin for this, he's just the goalie. All he can do is try to catch the pucks that should've have been hit anyways.

Is there any reason we had a 2-0 lead going into the third period? Maybe we didn't try hard enough. Maybe it was that pudding cup I ate last night. Sure, Mathias scored one and Alexei scored once, but does that make any difference whatsoever? It isn't really their fault our defense sucked. Ac-actually, Mathias is a defenseman. But it wasn't his fault at all. There are many players to blame for this, Jessica for one.

Why in the third period did we give up four goals in six minutes? Is there any real explanation? Maybe not, even though we have people to blame for it, But before we get into the blame game, let's reassess how we could've prevented this. Oh wait, we couldn't. That is why you fail. Or actually, why Cassidy and Jessica failed in this game. But, and this is a big but, I called that Ko-oren was bluffing. That's when my brain, started doing things. You know, urder as in mad-dog stuff. I think you know what I mean. Anyways, in gist, it wasn't the entire team's fault, just Cassidy and Jessica's.

So I got away from the stories today, mainly because there were no stories for me today. So what does this loss mean for the Ice Birds, it means our defense sucks ass. Seriously, giving up four goals in the last six minutes of the game? Blimey! That wasn't very nice. It was horrible. Slowing down are we? Right, here's the scoring summary:

This is the worst defense in a game for the Ice Birds thus far. Offensive-wise was kind of good, but defense was horrible. This loss knocks us down to third place in Group Two, behind Gyatso-kai and Sicoutimont. Hopefully we can get past this loss, I doubt it, but hopefully. Maybe the next game against Sicoutimont will be better, they won 3-0 over Neu Engollon today. It's a home game, so maybe we can pull through. I doubt it though. But now Ko-orean has to go to school prison. Gah, when I post here tomorrow they're going to look out the window. I swear, swear they will!
