We Generalites are a stubborn brood. And NSG is where we bash heads and debate. But have you ever actually changed someone's opinion here?
Because it often seems futile with all this debating that we do when the person at the end just stubbornly says "Ok, well that's your opinion but you'll never convince me", and it makes NSG seem a bit sad and more like mutual ego-stroking than genuine debate sometimes...a lot of heat but no light.
I think I've convinced about five people through NSG and telegram that I know of, the most major of which was from theist to atheist, and from socialist to capitalist in one fell swoop. But I've also had a multitude of run ins with ideological brick-walls.
What about you NSG? Have your oratorical skills ever been rewarded with you convincing someone to change their mind? Has that irritating nemesis of yours who was just plain wrong been converted by you (or vice versa)? Or is every debate for you here just an irritating insight into how entrenched people can be?
We are all here in NSG debates, in one way or another, to convince people of something, my guess is that it doesn't happen all too often, which in its own way is sad but it wouldn't be fun I guess if the opposite were true and this was just a facile exercise. So who's mind have you changed? Who changed your mind? And on what topic?

It's helped me mature as a person, probably because of the environment on here (serious political/philosophical discussion). With the increase in maturity I've changed my views, as my perspectives of the world changed. NS has been an experience that's aided my growth.

There's a lot of lurkers here. I'm not here to convince the people I'm debating with. I'm here to convince lurkers. So whether or not they're convinced I wouldn't know.

Wow. Do you think personally NS has set you in the right path, without any doubt?

NS is not a primary reason for building my intelligence and character. I tend to resort to books and other primary, hands-on sources for that.
Just throwing that out. No attacks or anything.
