Soviet Canuckistan Roster

Jersey:Image

Background: Hockey is a key element of Canuckistani culture. During the long, cold winters, hockey was often the only way for people to socialize. Arenas and Backyard Rinks are flooded every year for the 30 million organized and recreational hockey players in Soviet Canuckistan. In 1955, the Soviet Canuckistan National Hockey team was founded to bring the best of Soviet Canuckistan's hockey players to the world. This year's team is fast and agile and very rarely incurs penalties, just like the style of hockey in Soviet Canuckistan.

Roster:

RW- #3 Stephan Polomaniuk
Team:Moscawa Beavers
Age:24
Background:Born in the small town of Skabank, Soviet Canuckistan, Stephan became talented at hockey at a young age, at the age of 16, he was drafted into the Second Division of Soviet Canuckistani hockey, a first in Soviet Canuckistan as he was the youngest hockey pro ever there. He quickly began to shine, racking up an impressive 122 points in 75 games. At 17, he was moved up into the First Division where he continues to amaze, with his last season producing 102 points in 75 games.

RW-#82 Sgt. Andrei Petrovski
Team:Red Army Moscawa
Age:26
Background:Born into an army family, Andrei was used to playing many styles of hockey due to moving around a lot. Whether it was the rough play of the Quebexicans or the agile play of the West, he picked it up quickly and combined the styles to suit his needs. After joining the army at 18, he joined the Red Army team and in his first season racked up 77 points in 55 games. He continues to combine his finesse and physical play and got 93 points in 74 games last season.

RW-#43 Anthony Dubruch
Team:Moronto Spitfires
Age:22
Background:A fast player, Anthony has continued to defy the experts. Diagnosed with polio as a child, for years he had to walk with a knee brace and thought he could never play hockey again. However, defying the odds, at the age of 15, he was accepted to the prestigious St.Mark's hockey academy and his play excelled from there. However, in his rookie year, he was involved in a car crash, breaking his right femur, after months of recovery, he came back in the ice and finished his rookie year with 10 points in 3 games. This last season, he got 89 points in 75 games.

RW-#31 Julien LaTrappe
Team:Cowgary Cowboys
Age:28
Background: Born in Laclave, Soviet Canuckistan, Julien has always been under the hockey radar. Not even playing high-level hockey for most of this childhood, at the age of 17, he excelled and was drafted into a Second Division team. From there he stayed a fourth-liner but in his sixth season, defied predictions and began to become a point-a-game player and was quickly introduced to the elite play of the First Division at the ripe age of 24, a late start for many First Division player. Last year, with the Cowboys, he acquired 85 points in 75 games.

LW-#7 Koos van Key
Team:Iqualuit Fighting Narwhals
Age:34
Background:Born to a farm family, hockey was the second biggest activity after harvesting in his tiny community. He quickly outpaced the skill of the rural leagues and at the age of 12 had to move to the large city of Deadmonton to continue his quest for hockey glory. After getting out of high school, he played for a college team in Moscawa before at the age of 22, was drafted to the Fighting Narwhals. As one of the veterans on the team, he'll lead the young players to the international stage.

LW-#13 Ian Ioeusci
Team:Potcouver Pirates
Age:20
Background:Born to the family of one of the founders of the largest insurance company in Soviet Canuckistan, Ian always could have the best hockey equipment. In only his second year of pro hockey, Ian was chosen to help represent Soviet Canuckistan on the world stage, one of the youngest ever to represent SC in hockey.Playing for the Potcouver Pirates in his rookie year, he excelled, marking 100 points in 75 games.

LW-#94 Paul Farnsworth
Team:Deadmonton Zombies
Age:25
Background:Also an accomplished baseball player, Paul is an all-around athlete. Born into a sport-loving family, Paul was introduced to many sports at a young age and excelled at most of them. An accomplished hockey player, last season he got 90 points in 72 games.

LW-#86 Corey Smith
Team:Qualifax Whalers
Age:28
Background:Born into a family of fishermen, Corey hardly had anytime for hockey. However, in the time he did have he excelled and as soon as he turn 18, he quit the family business and began to play hockey. He rose throughout the ranks, quickly becoming a first line player for the Whalers. Last season, he scored 82 points in 67 games.

C-#28 Andrew Pollock
Team:St. Beaversburg Rougnecks
Age:30
Background:One of Soviet Canuckistan's greatest stars, Andrew will be someone to watch. After a stellar year in 2009-2010, setting an SCPHL scoring record with 142 points in 75 games, he's been propelled to stardom. With numerous endorsement deals, he's a household name in Soviet Canuckistan. Last season he scored 135 points in 74 games, making it one of his best seasons to date.

C-#46 Vitali Peunov
Team:Moscawa Beavers
Age:23
Background:An excellent all-around center. Vitali plays good ofensively and almost as well defensively. One of the nation's best players he achieved a stellar 122 points in 75 games last season.

C-#23 Vyecheslav Mistrenko
Team:St.Beaversburg Roughnecks
Age:29
Background:Even though he's on the third line, he's a force to be reckoned with. With a play style similar to that of his teammate Andrew Pollock, he's a scoring machine. Last year, he scored 58 times, making him one of only 12 Canuckistanis to score more than 50 goals in a season and the only one to do it twice in a row.

C-#11 Heinz Kampf
Team:Qualifax Whalers
Age:27
Background:From a poor immigrant family, Heinz overcame poverty to become famous. Living in the poor village of Hiblini, there was only one skating rink in the town and due to being bullied, he often hardly got any time on the arena, however his father made a small one where his practiced his skills to become one of Soviet Canuckistan's best. In his past season, he got 92 points in 74 games, a true accomplishment for a child of poverty.

RD-#56 Alessandro Virilini
Team:Cowgary Cowboys
Age:21
Background:A young star in Canuckistani hockey, with his physical style of play, has earned him the nickname "The Bulldozer." Often compared to Andrew Pollock, and considered his equivalent in defence, this rookie has skill beyond his age. With an impressive 56 assists last year and 74 points, he'll be someone to watch.

RD-#90 Alexander Langdon
Team:Tunguska Patriots
Age:19
Background:The youngest on the team, this kid has something to prove. A tank on the ice, heavy but fast, his physical style of play is unparalleled. In 75 games, he managed to assist 52 goals and scored 10 for a total of 62 points.

RD-#14 Sergei Plovin
Team:HC Chevo
Age:32
Background: Born in the mountains of Canuckistan, Sergei learned about the winter sports at a young age. By the age of 10, he was playing teenagers in organized hockey and excelled. He was drafted first overall by HC Chevo at the age of 18 and has been there ever since. At 30, he's one of the older members and a veteran for the defencemen.

LD-#21 Andre Plamondon-Piquette
Team:Duntreal Revolution(Soviet Quebexico)
Age:26
Background:The only player to play on a Quebexican team, he's a rarity on the team. Despite the war which tore through his homeland, he's in top shape for the cup. With fast reflexes, he can take any situation and make it to his advantage with his speed. A good helper for the team's scorers, he got 55 assists in 75 games last year.

LD-#66 Pieter Sijeppe
Team:Potcouver Pirates
Age:24
Background: A young player from Potcouver, Pieter is for sure a talented player. His quick acceleration help him get back to the point quickly after scoring chances so to not put his team in jeopardy. Last year, with the Pirates, he racked up and impressive 52 assists in only 65 games.

LD-#77 Sven Persson
Team:Camelton Sand Devils(Field Hockey)
Age:23
Background:Playing out of the hot desert city of Camelton, Sven's best sport isn't ice hockey. Growing up for most of his childhood playing field hockey, his field hockey coach showed him ice hockey. After lacing up a pair of skates, he took to the ice easily and progressed to the point where he now represents Soviet Canuckistan on the international stage.

G-#1 Kyle Prefontaine
Team:Iqualuit Fighting Narwhals
Age:21
Background:From a hockey playing family, Prefontaine followed in his father's footsteps to glory. His butterfly style of play is one of the best in Soviet Canuckistan and his blocker hand unparalleled. With a GAA of only 1.67 in 75 games last season with 63 wins, this will be one of the goalies to watch.

G-#32 Viktor Albanski
Team:Esov Thunder
Age:19
Background: Following Oleg Sybanski's retirement from hockey, Albanski was ready to take his place as the only newcomer to the national team. With his last season's GAA of 1.97 and with 58 wins, Albanski brings more youth to a very youthful WCOH 19 team.

Head Coach:Vanier Oloski
Team:Moscawa Beavers
Background: A celebrity and the best known Canuckistani hockey player. He holds 12 records in Canuckistani hockey such as most goals scored ever(910) and most points in a season(172). He's now a hockey commentator and of course the head coach for the Soviet Canuckistan national team.

Yep, we're boned again. Cassadaigua and Polar IslandStates? there's 4 blow-out losses right there. Kriegiersien, Galnius, Rovegia?? Sounds like a spell to keep the Necrocomicon closed or perhaps a Romanian law firm. So despite being the #1 team; by the way who the hell keeps voting us as #1?? Maybe we can get the law firm of Kriegiersien, Galnius, Rovegia to sue them or something. So expect a short 0-10-0 season for the IceWolves.

Tommy's Blog

So....it's been a while. People have aged, things have changed, and we still haven't eaten our oats. Butif there's one thing I love, it's puffed wheat. Yeah, puffed wheat. It's better than oats. But back on my main topic, the Ice Birds seemed to have made a return to the World Cup of Hockey. Not like they missed one, but it sure makes a great return. This time, we've got some new faces on the team. And by new faces, I mean female players. It's about time Torisakia finally had some on the team, I was waiting on that. After seeing their highlight reels from their past pro seasons, most of the new female players seem very good. Especially Jessica Holbrook and Cassidy McKenzie, who both made the cut for Line #1. Jessica had 47 goals last season, along with 25 assists for a combined total of 72 points with the Koradai Knightraiders. Fair enough for a Center, even more fair for an eighteen year old girl. Cassidy had 52 goals with 23 assists for a combined total of 75 points last season with the Postmeridian Firebolts. To say the least, Cassidy and Jessica will be the players to watch during this tournament. We'll especially need them early in the group stage. Below is the Ice Birds' schedule for the group stage:

@ (UR) Neu Engollon
@ (5) Gyatso-kai
vs. (UR) TailsPower
@ (92) Ko-oren
vs. (20) Sicoutimont
-BYE-
vs. (UR) Neu Engollon
vs. (5) Gyatso-kai
@ (UR) TailsPower
vs. (92) Ko-oren
@ (20) Sicoutimont

So as you can seeeeee, this time around isn't as bad as it's been in the past. Although there is only one unranked team in Group Two, there is only one main threat, Gyatso-kai. If I can recall corectly, the Ice Birds have never played against Gyatso-kai in the World Cup of Hockey before. I may be wrong, but who gives a damn? This is where our impact players will have to come in handy, hint hint Cassidy and Jessica. Another thing I forgot to mention about Cassidy and Jessica was, they are extremely good at fights. What more could you ask for? A good hockey game and a chick beating the hell out of some dude for no reason at all! Sounds like a damn good time to me! But I hope that we can avoid many PP situations like we have in the past. Maybe Alexei will stay away from those beatdowns that he had last tournament? You know, with those turtle-f**kers with the short arms? Yeah, those. And that's about all the time I have to f**k about on the internet, remember to check back for more news leading up to the the opening puckdrop.

Comments:
  1. wally: Chicks playing hockey? NOICE.
  2. RipAFart: You could make a drinking game out of how many times Cassidy and Jessica were mentioned
  3. PlainVanilla: If anyone wants to follow what the social media is saying about Alexei, here's his FB.
  4. hockeymask17: Alexei still got dem GFs on dat friends list. Wonder if he still knows...
  5. TommysBlog: He still does hockeymask17, I asked him about it the other day and he said he did but he wishes he didn't. Lol
  6. TinyRocks: Chicks playing hockey? Seems legit...

Havl Looks to Defend World Cup Victory

Capital City, Havl – Mere minutes after scoring the game-winning goal that clinched Havl's first World Cup of Hockey, Justin Donndelinger sat in an uncharacteristic silence as he faced a barrage of questions from reporters in the visiting locker room. "It's just starting to sink in," said Havl's team captain. The Capital City native had seen his share of big games, having raised the Solo Cup of the Havl Hockey League two times in his ten-year career. But somehow, the victory over juggernaul Qazox on international hockey's biggest stage seemed to have a unique meaning to Donndelinger. Finally, it seemed to dawn on the captain; "We won the World Cup!"

Image
Justin Donndelinger sealed victory for Havl with a third-period goal.

Four years later, Donndelinger returns to the World Cup with a mix of new and familiar faces. Goaltender Davis Rich, who earned World Cup MVP honors, returns for his third tournament. Winger Gilles Lecompte will rejoin the first line, along with World Cup newcomer (and HHL All-Star) Jason State. "It's a great honor, finally," said State. The Ilium Winterhawks winger missed the last World Cup after sustaining a groin injury in the Solo Cup playoffs. "I've played against these guys for almost a decade; it's been a lot of fun to play on the same team for once."

Defensive stalwart Brian Beierle returns for his third World Cup tournament. "The Professor," as he's known in the HHL for his insightful post-game conferences, will be joined by veterans Quinton Ancrum, Juha Mikinen and rookies Timo Sarinen and Ivan Keisler on the blue line. "It's going to be different, I'm sure," said Beierle. "We're older; you wouldn't call us underdogs, now. We used to thrive on that, but we have to get used to new expectations."

Image
Havl's national team defeated Qazox to win hockey's World Cup.

For its 21st edition, the World Cup of Hockey makes its way to the Equestrian States. This marks the first time the Equestrian States have hosted international hockey's greatest tournament, although the nation displayed its world-class capabilities as home to the 25th World Baseball Classic and the most-recent Market Cup. The Equestrian States are inhabited primarily by sapient non-humans, a unique experience for many of the teams. "We're looking forward to it," said head coach Nicklas Lindberg. "They [Equestrian States] have experience playing hockey, but it's always great to bring the game to a larger audience."

Coverage of World Cup of Hockey XXI will continue live on HTVM with the first match between Havl and Lymantatia on Saturday, June 1st.

Mapletish's Minnows Going Into The World Cup with High Hopes

The fourth place finish behind neighbours Michael VII in the World Cup of Hockey 20 was not a distant memory in many of the players' minds as they go into the 21st World Cup wanting to go a step further than what was achieved. "This time, we don't want to go home empty handed, at least a third place medal would be good." said center Wystan Colby. The seasoned veteran currently in his last year of his playing career had seen his share of big games and disappointing seasons, having lifted the Cherries Cup only once despite entering the finals three times in his career. This is the tournament that cannot be missed as this is the last time for Colby to play apart in winning something prestigious.

The team playing in the World Cup of Hockey 21 is largely the same as the last tournament, with Faron Wilson at the helm for the Minnows., with increasing popularity and attention focused on the sport, the pressure is on for the very first time for the Minnows to perform in the tournament. "The pressure is on us to perform but we shall take things in our stride and improve every game and give the best to our fans out there," commented Wilson, the head coach of the team.

"Due to popular vote of our esteemed Nation, Alex Ommegio has been elected as the new Captain of the Galnius Mystic. This team is making it's debut in the WCoH this year during the 21st tournament. when asked what he thought of the decision, Ommegio stated "I will do my best to lead this team, but it is a group effort to keep this team as contenders for the cup.""

World Cup of Hockey 21: Preview

(SP) The Kingdom of Saintland will be making its debut in the World Cup of Hockey. While the National Ice and Field Hockey Team has spent the last few months preparing to play field hockey in the Olympics, they now have to revert back to ice hockey. While Prince Josephus and his teammates will likely make the transition back to ice hockey seamlessly, the Olympic Silver Medalists do have doubts in their minds as the World Cup of Hockey approaches. "We didn't expect the World Cup of Hockey to be held any time soon. A few weeks ago, my father [King Paulus XV] told me that we'll be entering the World Cup of Hockey. He clarified to me that this was ice hockey, not field hockey. I hope we aren't rusty at our primary sport just because we've spent the last few months training to win that gold medal at the Olympics this summer. Things got even worse for us during the draw when we somehow drew both the defending World Cup of Hockey Champions [Havl] and the team that beat us for the Gold Medal at the Winter Olympics [Valanora]. While a lesser Kingdom would fall into self-pity, we are Sanctii. We are God's Kingdom. Our Church is the True Church. We are the Kingdom of Saintland. God will be with us as we step onto the ice. If it be his Will, we will go to the Equestrian States, home of the talking horses, and we will be the champions of hockey." - Prince Josephus

The playoff round of the 21st World Cup of Hockey will be held in the Equestrian States, a nation that is well-known in the Kingdom of Saintland. They are world-renowned for their talking horses, who make up most of the population of their nation. Recently, their U-21 soccer team won the Di Bradini Cup, defeating the formidable Federation of Free Republics, another foreign nation that is well-known to the average Sanctii, in the final. However, the Equestrian States are more well-known in the Kingdom of Saintland for their dirty play in the 20th World Bowl, when they injured Prince Petrus and cost the Sanctii their rightful place in the final 16. More recently, Rear Back, one of their talking horses, won the Saintland Derby, barely edging out Bridesmaid of Karditan.

However, the Sanctii must get to the playoffs before they can take an extended visit to the land of the talking horse. The World Cup of Hockey will consist of 10 groups of 6 playing a double round-robin home-and-away for a total of 10 games. The Sanctii would be drawn into Group 7. On the first day of the World Cup of Hockey, the Olympic Silver Medalists visit Olympic Gold Medalists Valanora for a rematch of the Gold Medal game from the VIII Winter Olympics. Valanora is currently ranked 13th in the world. In their 2nd game, the Sanctii will be at home against The Royal Kingdom of Quebec, the 31st ranked tea. The Sanctii will then visit unranked Sjovenia and 56th ranked Lymantatia for what are expected to be 2 easy wins. Finally, they return to Royal Square Garden to host 3rd ranked Havl, the reigning World Cup of Hockey champions. After a 1-day break, as usual, the Sanctii will play the same 5 teams again, but with the home and away team flipped. Already this group is being dubbed the "Group of Champions" and is widely considered the toughest group ever at a World Cup of Hockey. It wouldn't surprise us at the SP if Sjovenia or Lymantatia finished without a single victory in this group.

The format for the World Cup of Hockey resembles the format for the ongoing 26th World Baseball Classic. The top 8 group winners earn a bye to the Round of 16. Once again, the top 2 teams in each group, plus the 3 best 3rd place teams will advance. However, the Round of 24 is a play-in game, not a best-of-3 series. The Round of 16 and the Quarters will be best of 3, followed by 2 off days. After that, the semis and 3rd place series are best-of-3, while the championship series is best-of-5.

The Saintland National Ice and Field Hockey Team is captained by Prince Josephus, the goalie. Thomas Clovius, center for the first line, is the team's best player. Clovius has been the MVP of our Kingdom's Ice Hockey league 2 years in a row. He is widely considered one of the best hockey players ever to come out of the Kingdom. The Sanctii play the game hard and will be looking to beat up some Godless foreigners.

At the VIII Winter Olympics, the Sanctii struggled early on, but they played better and better as the tournament went on. Eventually, they were able to make it into the knockout round on the final day and went on all the way to the finals before falling. This time around, they will be hoping to continue their success and prove that their Olympic Silver Medal was not a fluke. The World Cup of Hockey will initially be televised live on Royal Two, but will move to Royal One once the World Baseball Classic is finished. "I am looking forward to the World Cup of Hockey. My son Josephus will lead my Kingdom's Ice and Field Hockey Team onto the ice. They will face the best teams in the world and I am certain that they will put up a strong showing. I am asking everybody in the Kingdom to turn out for the home games and fill up Royal Square Garden. The National Ice and Field Hockey team needs your support as they face an impossibly tough group. While I am sure this is all part of God's Plan, it is still a difficult task and the team needs all the support they can get as they attempt to knock off both reigning champions of the sport of ice hockey." - King Paulus XV

Prince Josephus was in his brother Petrus's room, along with Prince Andreas and Prince Ioannes. All 4 Princes of Saintland that captain National Teams were now in the same room. They had just logged onto the web site of the Saintland Press and read the results of the draw for the World Cup of Hockey.

Prince Petrus - Josephus, It seems like those talking horses have it in for you, too.

Prince Josephus - I'm sure its just a coincidence that we, the Olympic Silver Medalists, drew the Olympic Gold Medalists and the defending World Cup of Hockey champs.

Prince Andreas - Josephus, this isn't the first time this has happened to a Saintland National Team. Remember how my National Soccer Team drew defending champions Audioslavia and last year's Olympic Gold Medalists Krytenia?

Prince Ioannes - Andreas, didn't you guys finish ahead of Krytenia?

Prince Andreas - Of course we did. I still regret that we blew the BoF against New Sideburn's thugs, we blew our spot in the World Cup by losing 2 matches against Audioslavia that we should have won and we blew the Cup of Harmony by letting those Gordonopians score twice against us in extra time.

Prince Petrus - Andreas, you're the best soccer player in the world. I'm certain you're going to make it to the World Cup next time and you're probably going to win the thing. God brought you so close and then denied you because it wasn't your time yet.

Prince Ioannes - It could be worse. You could have been eliminated by a team of women.

Prince Petrus - Ioannes, they pelted your team with apples. You never stood a chance in there.

Prince Ioannes - At least the National Baseball Team is going to beat them and win the WBC on their turf. Ioannes Bebius promised that the team would win this WBC.

Prince Josephus - Isn't that the same National Baseball Team that disgraced our Kingdom just a few months ago? I'm not that confident in them.

Prince Andreas - Josephus, you are going to at least make it out of that group, right?

Prince Petrus - I want you to win the World Cup of Hockey just to stick in the faces of those talking horses that injured me.

Prince Josephus - Trust me, I will put everything I have into this. Petrus, how's your leg? Will you be ready in time for the start of World Bowl 21?

Prince Petrus - Of course, I'll be ready. I'm determined to get back on the gridiron, make fewer mistakes and win another championship. Hopefully, at least one of you will win a championship first.

Prince Ioannes - There isn't another International Basketball Championship for 6 more months.

Prince Petrus - Ioannes, have you forgotten the Olympics?

Prince Ioannes - I did, but at least we won't have to compete against women there.

Prince Andreas - I know. It is just not decent for these nations to put women in a man's world.

Prince Petrus - They are Godless foreigners. What do you expect?

Prince Josephus - Petrus, I've been wondering something.

Prince Petrus - What could that be?

Prince Josephus - Are the rumors going around that you may be less pious than most of us true?

Prince Petrus - I have to admit that they were. I wasn't as devoted to the True Church as I should have been. I recognize that my injury was God's Will. God will bring me success if I turn unto him.

Prince Josephus - Of course, he will.

Prince Petrus - Well, other than Havl and Valanora, it looks like you've drawn The Royal Kingdom of Quebec. I think we beat them in the Arena Bowl. From what I've heard, hockey's their best sport.

Prince Josephus - That isn't good news. Who else did we draw?

Prince Andreas - Lymantatia?

They all laugh.

Prince Josephus - Lymantatia? They are synonymous with mediocrity. I think we'll beat them twice. Who else?

Prince Petrus - Some nation called Sjovenia. I've never heard of them.

Prince Ioannes - Neither have I.

Prince Andreas - I haven't heard of them either.

Prince Josephus - I hope they're an easy opponent. When a newcomer comes along, you never know what you're going to get.

Prince Petrus - Few suspected at the Arena Bowl that we would be the team to win it.

Prince Andreas - Josephus, I think God put you guys in that group for a reason.

Prince Josephus - I know it. I just hope being in the Group of Champions doesn't doom our chances of making it to the land of the talking horses.

Prince Petrus - Amen, brother. I want to see the looks on their faces when you lift that trophy, signifying that our Kingdom has the best ice hockey in the world.

Prince Andreas - Remember Josephus, when God is on your side, there is nothing that is impossible. You can win this World Cup of Hockey. Our Kingdom's title drought started when you lost in the Gold Medal match. It can end when you win your World Cup. May God be with you.

Prince Ioannes - Do it for the glory of our Kingdom, Josephus. We're all counting on you.

Prince Josephus - Thanks. I'll do my best and hopefully our winning this World Cup in our debut is part of God's Will.

Prince Josephus was the first of the 4 Princes of Saintland to leave the room. He needed to get to a practice session with his team...

After an exciting year, filled with lockouts, collective barganing agreements, a very short season which has yet to begin, and few changes to the line-up, the Ice Bisons have travelled to The Pony Republic of Equestrian States to attempt to strike fortune in the Twenty-First World Cup of Hockey.

With two unsuccessful World Cup runs following a golden performance at the Cotdelapoms' Coupe Pomme D'Or tournament, the Ice Bisons have return to the ice after a lockout has all but destroyed the 2013.1 season.

"We have been fortunate to practice abroad in Gaoling," spoke Skirata at a pre-tournament press conference. "Luckily, our ade have finally adapted to the new offensive play style we feel will bring victory during the next World Cup. Six tournaments have been attended to by our boys, and it is time we hoist the gold."

As has almost become expected, GyatsoAir --- in partnership with the AHL and the National Sports Council --- have further reduced the prices of airline tickets to the Equestrian States to facilitate the spectatorship of our national team. In addition, each game the Bisons play in shall be aired on the entire ASPN family of networks (ASPN Prime, ASPN2, AVS, ASPN3, UASPN): All other games shall air on the World Sports Nation and World Sports Nation PLUS, which are being made available on all television and internet-provider services at NO COST from now until the conclusion of the World Cup of Hockey.

GK – 68 – ZHAO Hotaka
Height: 188cm - Weight: 83kg – Age: 22 years old – Hand: L - Team: Republic Capitals
With the retirement of Shu Huanguo last year, the need for a starting goalie fell at just the right moment for Zhao Hotaka. Not only was he drafted right out of BSSU onto the Republic Capitals, where admidst the lockout, he was selected as the starting goalie for Shu's old team.

Maybe there is a bit of luck in line for this up-and-coming player.

His style of play is very reminiscent of Shu, credited with teaching Zhao back at BSSU. A mixture of the profly with more classic butterfly style thrown in, Zhao's quick reflexes prevent many a rebound from getting past him. In addition, being a full five centimetres taller than Shu, Zhao is able to cover a bit more net and keep the goals from getting past him. His original role on the Ice Bisons was to come in and save Shu, rescuing many a performance, though now, starting with the first line, it may be Zhao who will one day need saving.

LD – 32– SATO Sorua
Height: 191cm - Weight: 100kg – Age: 25 years old – Hand: R - Team: Beijing Stars

A strong defenceman who Skirata has favoured since the Third World Junior Hockey Championships, Sato Sorua is a integral piece of the Bisons' defence. Into his third professional career season, Sato was recently traded to the Beijing Stars right before the beginning of the 2013.1 lockout.; though this has done little to harm his playing abilities.

A strong defence player, Sato originally played the right side of the ice, however, Coach Skirata feels that a good defenceman can play both sides and as such, Sato has been switched up to test the theory. One of the greatest back-skaters in the game, he has become a regular facet of the Ice Bisons' defence.

Height: 193cm - Weight: 108kg – Age: 34 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

The seasoned veteran of the Defensive line, Pakku Ito is returning to National Team for the sixth time, and as such, continues to bring his experience to the line.

Great on the backskate and known for perfect poke-checking skills, Ito’s greatest strength is his ability to read the ice and predict the play with an uncanny certainty. He isn’t afraid of getting rough, which with his Mandalorian background, should come at no surprise. After three-peating the Kuruk Cup and repeating the Shield Trophy, Ito has continued to prove he is simply an invaluable asset to any team he is on.

LW - 02 – Arnook ISHIDA
Height: 188cm - Weight: 93kg – Age: 24 years old – Hand: L - Team: Albionpool Oak Leafs (CDP)

A solid winger capable of playing both sides of the ice equally, Arnook Ishida's only weakness is his age; though he was drafted at 18 to the Flames, he has gained little experience in the more-offence-based Fire Division and, after five years in Cotdelapoms, his skill-set has begun to show a development.

Even after the Oak Leafs failed to secure the Dumas Cup, Ishida remains in the lineup. Sure, he is soon to enter the prime of his career, with many teams here in Gyatso-kai dying to bring back one of their own. Even Makapu --- the team which drafted Ishida at 18 and the one he left for Cotdelapoms --- are trying to arrange their payroll to make room for the Ishida Buyback, should the option come on the table. Though, with such a lackluster performance in World Cup XX, that buyback may come at a lower price.

C – 04 – Hakoda ISHII – CAPTAIN
Height: 193cm - Weight: 94kg – Age: 30 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

The star forward of the seven-time Kuruk Cup Champions, Hakoda Ishii returns to lead the Ice Bisons in yet another international tournament.

A strong centre, Ishii is able to coordinate many a great highlight goal: With tremendous vision and terrific passing skills, he is the best two-way player in Gyatso-kai. Looking to do even better this time around, you can be sure that Ishii shall light the lamp at least once every game. Having broken the Fifty International Goal stat in the final game of World Cup of Hockey XIX, Ishii has continued to strive for excellence during the off-season. However, he crossed into the "Thirty Year Slump" as it is known in Gyatso-kai, where an older player begins to struggle with an aging body losing to a still-agile mind. However, in several friendlies, Ishii certainly showed no slump...

Drafted by the Itakawai Lightning after a strong first World Cup performance, Wad'e Tay'haai returns to the first line for the Twenty-First World Cup of Hockey a more developed player. Having yet another season under his belt, Tay'haai looks to continue developing and, with the prime of his career just over the horizon, now is the time to perfect the skills needed to succeed in this game.

A very strong youthful skater, the fact that Tay’haai garnished a position on the first line is a testament to his strength. A powerful right-winger, his skill in the faceoff is impressive, having yet to lose a faceoff in his entire ACSA career and only five in his three seasons with the Itakawai Lightning.

Incredibly accurate with his passing and known for his interception skills, Ko has seen some great development while he played in Cotdelapoms. His strength is still one of his greatest assets, an asset he is not afraid to use on the ice; known for putting more than his fair share of men into the boards, Ko garnishes at least two penalties a game for his roughness... Something he is proud of. Many analysis in Cotdelapoms feel that he is simply too good for the Saints, and with the final season of his contract coming soon, many wonder if Ko will return to Gyatso-kai.

When asked to describe Ko, Coach Skirata compared him to his namesake, the dao --- or sword--- in that he teters on the edge of a finely-honed blade, and just a simple push will slice you in half: Ko is known to divide players with his impressive size and muscle pucks away from the foes before passing them off to an open player. While his shot power is weaker than most players, his accuracy is second only to seven-time All-Star Shot Contest winner Hakoda Ishii.

Height: 183cm - Weight: 88kg – Age: 31 years old – Hand: L - Team: St-Fortunat Saints(CDP)

Playing in the AHL for four seasons and then another six in the CHL, Feng Tao has seen some success in the CHL as of late; with the trade to the St-Fortunat Saints last season, Feng has been pleased to have been re-united with Ko, whome he played with for three season at Omashu. The chemistry is still there, and the coaches of St-Fortuant have been very happy with their acquisition. Feng is known for being a 'double threat", equally able to pull back and block any pass made by the opposition, only to turn that pass around and snipe a shot into goal.

While is backskating is impressive, Feng has struggled with the switch ever since a torn Achielles tendon weakened his right ankle four seasons ago: Many blame his less-than-stellar performance in the WCoH15 on that injury and he has continued the conditioning of that ankle to increase its strength, In addition, he heavily favours the foreshot, almost never taking a backhand to the puck and nearly always shoots from the right side of the ice: Though his style is predictable, the speed and finesse he gives the shot makes the end-result unpredictable.

LW – 26 – Walon VAU
Height: 182cm - Weight: 88kg – Age: 24 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

Drafted by the Itakawai Lightning in the second round during the 2012.2 AHL Draft, Walon Vau had an incredible two seasons before the 2013.1 Lockout; having won multiple awards, Vau has proven he is much more than the collegiate background to Kal Skirata.

Given his strong backhanded shots, Vau is known for his trademark backward's skating goals at KSU; sending a puck on his left side while skating backwards at the last minute. A little childish in Skirata's opinion, but none the less, it garnishes the support of the fans who always enjoy a little showmanship. After spending the last few months working with both Tay'haai and Ishii, Vau is beginning to make improvements in his form.

After a mid-season trade to Kyrimorut last season, Hei Hayate managed to help the Ramikade advance into the Playoffs after securing a first-place position in the regular season. His natural leadership skills, combined with such a fiery charisma, makes Hei a great leader, though to Skirata, he needs a few more years experience before he gets to wear the C.

A very strong centre, much like his first-line counterpart, Hei is known for his strength at coordinating the forward line to execute many a great plays. With excellent vision and adequate stick handling, Hei has earned the respect of his team while maintaining the strength and form of players much younger than him.

RW - 44 – Kal SKIRATA
Height: 194cm - Weight: 89kg – Age: 23 years old – Hand: L - Team: Montréal Cotdelapomais (CDP)

A natural talent, Kal Skirata's skill comes as no surprise, given the history of the Skirata Clan in the Avatarian Sports. However, while the skill Skirata possesses is valued, his experience in international play is low, which is reflected in his nerves as he skates on the ice. Quick to act and slow to think, Kad'buir continues to train his son in the fine art of patience.

While originally suspected to play his first professional game in Gyatso-kai, Skirata would stun the Republics by signing a two-year contract with the Montréal Cotdelapomais, taking his amazing talent and youth to the CHL. While some back at home feel Skirata betrayed his family with the move, however, his father even came out in support of his son's decision; stating the move would introduce the younger Skirata to more styles of play and gain him 'an invaluable experience'. Nonetheless, in his very first season in the CHL, Skirata would come away with not only the Lapointe Award for the Best Rookie, he was able to take the Cotdelapomais to the Dumas Cup final in which he would face off against Shu and the Royals. A touching moment after the final game was when Shu and Skirata came together in the last line, and gave each other a solemn bow before embracing one another...

Perhaps there is no animosity afterall...

A massive man on the ice, Iwai Itsuki has earned the nickname “The Unagi” after the legendary sea monsters who live around Kyoshi Island. Fast and a hard-hitter, Iwai knows how to use his size to usher an opponent into the boards with little to no chance of their ‘survival’.

With a lack-luster style of passing, Iwai must rely on his right defensive partner to get the rock from opponents while he muscles them out of possession. His shooting skills are weak, however, the speed and agility he possess make up for the lack in offensive skills.

RD – 25 – JIANG Tujing
Height: 193cm - Weight: 99kg – Age: 24 years old – Hand: L - Team: Kyoshi Warriors

While many experts at the WJHC saw a great player in the making with Jiang Tujing, Coach Skirata saw a player in need of work. “Much like a sword”, spoke Skirata, “Jiang needs to be sharpened and honed to a sharp point. I see in him much that I saw in (Ito Pakku) many years ago… and hopefully he can come to age much the same.”

With his size, one would expect such a player to be a physical beast with little else to go for him. Instead, what you get with Jiang is a defenceman whose speed rivals the best centres, whose accuracy rivals the best snipers and whose vision is almost unmatched. However, as Skirata said, he needs work until he becomes a viable option on the first line. Luckily for Jiang, he was drafted in 2012.1, declaring a season early, and was drafted in the fourth round by Kyoshi, where we will work under the tutelage of Fukui Oyaji; one of the AHL's greatest defencemen in history.

Height: 191cm - Weight: 95kg – Age: 25 years old – Hand: L - Team: Unsigned

Returning to the ice since a season-ending ankle injury, Ikeda Kuruk worked very hard to displace the wild stallion of Kima Yagone from the third line. However, with the young Jaster Gilamij carving an impressive record on the right side of the ice, Ikeda had to adjust to playing on the left.

A strong power forward, Ikeda is known for his smooth skating and his ability to snipe with the best in the league. Given his background with two of the most pass-obsessed teams in the league, he has gained more skill in his passing department. With a history of shooting first and asking questions later, it is the lack of league play in over a year that has Ikeda acting as a wildcard in the third line, as opposed to the rock he once was on the first.

Having worked his way up the line in Republic City as he gained the Second Assistant Captain position following the injury of Olof Kolosji, Toru Akiak continues to better his game. However, with such developments small in contrast to those of the younger players, he has yet to shine any brighter; what he needs is a great defining moment, one in which he can show Skirata that he is meant to be a star player.

Being able to do everything well, but nothing great is something which is bothersome to many a coachers; for a player who was drafted four years and has been on two teams in a single year, the gift that Coach Antinanco gave him in the place of 2nd Asst. Captain was in the hopes of giving him a solid future as a Captain; after four seasons without a Captain, many on the Caps fan base want to see a new star rise from the ashes of Shu's departure.

Height: 186cm - Weight: 88kg – Age: 26 years old – Hand: L - Team: Keldabe Strills

Coming from a renowned Mandalorian Youth Hockey Development Academy in Keldabe, Jaster Gilamij played his collegiate hockey in Kibago under a student of Skiratas, Mos Shilosa. This resulted in Gilamij developing a very 'Mandalorian'-style of play; far more adept at sniping the puck from the blue line then at bringing it into the crease, Gilamij is still a little rough on the edges to take a lead position on the Bisons. Quick to draw, quick to shoot, Gilamij will one day be seen as a great player. For now, he is average in all categories...

The list is still filled with many young players, seeking to continue the development of the future of the Bisons. Of note, Kima Yagone, once the third line leftwing, finds himself warming the bench after losing his spot to the return of Ikeda Kuruk. Also, in a historic move, the Republics' first-ever professional pony athelete has made it to the NAtional Stage. Shou "Sleethoof" Moon managed to snake his way onto the Ice Bisons, earning quite a reputation at Ponyville College; one of the few post-secondary education centres found in the Equine Autonomous Region in south Gyatso-kai. While it is unlikely he will gain any ice time due to the prowess of Zhou Hotaka, it is still a first step towards equality simply having a pony on the team.

With just a slight modification to the kit for the Twenty-First World Cup of Hockey, the Ice Bisons hope to see these colours fly to the top of the tournament!

Les Royales at WCoH 21, in Equestrian States

Sicoutimont's Hockey Royales are back, ready to improve on a disappointing finish last time around in Kelssek. So, without further ado, here's the roster and information!

Archambault-Rover

Staff
Coach: Michel Nillonier
Asst. Coach: Guy Bouchard
Asst. Coach: Herbert Girard
Trainer: Dr. Gabriel Dumas
General Manager: Benoit Tremblay
Owners: The Government of Sicoutimont

The team look similar to the one that lost out in the quarterfinals 2 tournaments ago, when it was hosted by Micheal VII. 2 major changes were made, with young Lucien Beliveau joining the roster after having a great season in the SDL, the league one below the SHL. The Edmunston Anglers will be happy to have the 21 year old next year, who scored 50 goals last season. Rick Rover joins the squad, the NSCAA Ice Hockey champion looks to continue his success onto the international stage after being drafted first overall by the Richelieu Admirals. Loic Lenouvre and Seamus Sinclair return as stalwarts on the blue line, Julio Archabault and Yves Lapierre will also provide defense for Etienne Goubert and Louis Lefay. Up front, Coach Nillonier's offensive +4 style really benefits guys like Beliveau, Jean-Luc Desjardins, Gaspard Richard and Maurice Rolloton. JP Dandenault has become a more defensive player, the top defensive player in the SHL last season, and Nillonier has been trying to get him back into the offense-first mode. Pierre D'Etoile's retirement sent off shockwaves, the 32 year old retired due to an injury suffered to his knee in last year's Lafayette Cup Playoffs.

Arena:
Arena Nationale-Lac-Geneve, Sicoutimont
-Sicoutimont's national teams look to be heading away from the big cities to host games, with the basketball, football, and now hockey teams moving to the areas of Lac-Geneve and Pierre Beach rather than the capital. When will the baseball team move to the 5,000-seat Stade Geneve, you ask? Not likely. Arena Nationale was built by the government to host Les Royales' hockey efforts, and it's not likely the government will build much else. 20,000 can fit in the arena, the second largest capacity in the nation.

The Sova Empire's Inaugural World Cup of Hockey

The roster for TSE's first WCoH. Residents of the North Region (resided mostly of Scandanavian folk) have been training for a while, and feel ready to take on the world.

Goalies:
Main-Sigvard Kristoffer
Backup-Haraldur Vincent

Line 1:
Left Wing-Christen Halvdan
Right Wing-"Wreck It" Ralph Veikko
Center-Juha Egil
Defenseman-Birger Matthias

Line 2:
Left Wing-Seppo Bengt
Right Wing-Gustav Alpertti
Center-Viljo Roald
Defenseman-Emil Launo

Line 3:
Left Wing-Ola Anton
Right Wing-Ludvig Lars
Center-Fredrik Aatto
Defenseman-Kauko Ruuben

Line 4:
Left Wing-Helge Marko
Right Wing- Otso Olli
Center-Ransu Steffen
Defenseman-Aadolf Dagfinn

Dagfinn is a legendary defenseman, but is showing signs of age compared to other, younger teams, and he is a team leader of sorts. "Wreck It" Ralph always has a huge hit per game (like Kronwalling if you are a Red Wings fan), and at home games, "Wreck-It-Ralph" chants go on for minutes.

Cloutier’s Corner,
by Bryan Cloutier

Good evening, Cassadaigua, and anyone else reading. I am Bryan Cloutier, and I will be doing the team blogging over the course of World Cup of Hockey 21. Let me begin by saying how much of an honor it is to be returning to this competition. Like the other sports, Cassadaigua was once a great nation in this before the queen pulled us out of international sports. As such, our ranking has suffered. Many will think that we should be able to be just as good as we were before, and that the ranking is just a number. Unfortunately, this has proven to not be the case, not just with our team, but when any team takes a cup or two off. In the soccer World Cup, I thought that our team played as well as they could and had some exciting moments, but ultimately they failed to qualify. While they were able to reach the semifinals of the Cup of Harmony, anything short of qualification in that tournament is a disappointment. In the World Bowl, we had an excellent group stage, all things considered, but lost out on a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs. In the World Baseball Classic, tiebreakers became our friend and got us into the playoffs, which as the host nation, would have been tough to swallow if they did not make it. They lost last night to Saintland, a nation that disgusts me, but they should be proud that they made it to the first round. There was a great run in the basketball, but we never fell in the rankings there, so it doesn’t really apply much to that tournament.

It is an honor to be coached by Samantha Preston, the sister of the great Andrew Preston, who was the first male captain of any Cassadagan sports teams. Further making me proud was the “A” that has put on my jersey. It is a distinction that I am proud to have. In many ways, Andrew Preston is my role model. He is the player I molded my game after as a young kid, and why I always wanted to play defense. No, scoring goals was never what excited me initially, preventing goals is what did it (but not to the point where I ever considered goaltending). This isn’t to say I don’t enjoy letting my slapshot rip from the point, because I most definitely do, but there is a rush involved in seeing the opposing star forward coming at you and knocking him off his skates. The physical game doesn’t define me as a player, but there is no forward that I will ever back down from. That’s what Andrew Preston was all about.

Right now in Cassadaigua, there is a lot of gender animosity started from the alleged rape of a student at Grande Mountain University several years ago by players that currently play for the World Cup and basketball teams, Meghan Kinson and Ashley Stokes. I really have a hard time believing that story, because if this really happened then why are we just hearing about it now? Sadly, this is an incident being used by someone to justify his crazy actions. I can proudly call myself an advocate of MEN (Male Equality Now), and anyone who thinks it has been unsuccessful is simply being impatient. There have been many good things accomplished by MEN on a social level. As a young boy growing up, I had the same opportunity to attend school and get a proper education. I never felt as though I needed to do more to earn an “A” on anything then any female did. I had several scholarship offers after high school to play hockey, and they weren’t just the “for the best guy that fits a category.” Though I did not go to Grande Mountain, they were one of the schools willing to give me a scholarship. I chose Winchester College, and got a great education. Other high school classmates that were men and could not fall back on sports had scholarship offers of their own. There never has been a point in my life where I felt that discrimination held me back, although sometimes I must admit that I look at other international leagues to play professional hockey. But that’s another story, and not because of the gender climate here. At this level, I wear pink with pride as I represent my nation for the first time.

(OOC: Home game locations are now updated into our roster post).
