[quote="Eizen";p="1439099"]Here's what various TV shows and personalities are saying about the Eizen National Hockey Team

...and the winner of the Eizen National Hockey Team Song Contest is..."ON FROZEN SHEETS OF BLOOD" by Stahlfaust! Here's a clip of the music video which will be played during a live broadcast of an upcoming game!

The camera pans across an empty ice arena, there are many hockey players wearing jerseys of various Eizen Pinnacle League teams standing on the rink. Suddenly they all explode into a cloud of red mist. The mist falls in the form of rain and settles onto the rink in a large pool of blood which instantly freezes and forms a red rink of death.

Several human-shaped forms rise up from the blood and coalesce into images of players wearing the jersey of the Eizen National Team.

Vols in the lead. No, we're not sure how, either

Nevertheless, there they are, squarely at the top of their group standings, undefeated, and unmatched, with a +8 goal differential.

The Vols also ensured they'd have to play like a bunch of braindead monkeys to not do better than last time. With the 3-0 shutout of Royalsoldiers, they have their third win, and another banner night for Allaaks Oevachkun and Kristin Maarks (two goals, and two assists, respectively) to thoroughly embarass another offense, and another goalkeeper.

The scoring opened with Oevachkun breaking free with 6:14 in the first period to score unassisted on the Royalsoldiers. That would be the only goal for the first period.

The second period opened with Kristin Maarks setting one up for Oevachkun to widen the Volunteers' lead, while in the first two periods they outshot Royalsoldiers 38-16.

However, the final goal would belong to Joe Green, who was also assisted by Maarks, to seal the lead at 3-0 with 14:14 left in the third period. Easy win.

The Vols' next game is against Tocrowkia, who prior to the tournament looked to provide a good test, and probably will, though their record is less-than-spectacular.

Andrew’s Blog

I felt as though we played a great game against Toyur last night in improving our record to a perfect 3-0-0 after three games. It was a pretty interesting day off as not only was the arena booked by some modeling showcase, apparently the unveiling of a winter line by Klein & Klein, the company actually took advantage of Cassadaigua being in town and asked for our players to do some modeling, including myself, which I turned down. The obvious target for them was our 18-year old rookie phemon Meghan Stafford, who looks good in anything. You won’t be young forever, so Meghan was permitted by the team to appear. She had quite a thrill up there on the runway. For the rest of us, it was welcome break from the long practices in which we had, and the good news is that Meghan was not distracted by that. After we went down 1-0 six minutes into the game, it was Stafford that tied up the game with 12:42 remaining in the first period with a sneaky wrister over the glove of the goalie Patrik Dahlin. Four minutes later, Stafford was instrumental in the second goal as she picked up the primary assist on the slapper from Rachel Castelli which also found its way over the glove of Dahlin. For the rest of the period, we tried to exploit what we thought we might have discovered and beat him to the glove side, but the goalie from IK Kristiansberg would have none of it. The score remained 2-1 for a while, and after outshooting Toyurn 11-8 in the first, we carried it over into the second, and it led to some power play time. On our third power play, and second of the period, I took a slapper from the point that found its way through a maze of players and into the net at the 8:36 mark. Replays show that the puck deflected off the skate of defensemen Jonas Holmberg en route to the net, and that’s just fine with me. They scored late in the period on a power play of their own to make it 3-2, leading to an intense third period. Toyur went all out to get the tying goal, and at the 14:11 mark of the period, we caught them in their aggression, and Jonas Holmberg’s efforts to join the rush and ended up getting a 3-on-1 breakaway down the ice. Danielle Castleberry picked up the goal, one that I would get a secondary assist on, and it put us up 4-2. Toyur never packed it in, but we played great defense to finish off our win.

Now, after three games, we are perfect and stand atop the group. We cannot get too excited because like we saw with our team in the International Basketball Championships that started 4-0, that early start can turn into a 7-5 finish. I believe that we can continue to play well, especially in the first half as our toughest two games of this leg are done with. However, that doesn’t really mean anything in hockey as anything can happen on any given night in this great sport. Our next match is against Euroslavia, a nation that did appear in the last World Cup of Hockey and pulled off a couple upsets if I recall. They are a no nonsense team that won’t tolerate mistakes by their opponent, and look to capitalize on that whenever possible. They have a knack for getting opponents to draw penalties on them more of then most, while rarely committing any offenses of their own, so we need to be sure to play smart hockey especially against them.

(First Period)

The Virabians had just taken a 1-0 lead and Coach Dunlop's fury with the first line was palpable. They had just given up a goal after a shift ran too long due to an inability to clear the puck. It looked like it was going to be another long night. Dunlop looked at the first line as they took their spots at the end of the bench prior to the face off and gorwled angrily. "What do you think you sadsacks are doing?"

Ryan Roberts lifted his head up, still trying to catch his breath and looked over at his linemates to see that Selanne and Getzlav were just as perplexed as he was.

Dunlop moved over closer and started yelling as loud as he could. "You guys make me sick, if I had just been embarassed like that i'd want to be right back out on the ice sticking it to those clowns on the other bench who are all laughing it up because they just took you to the shed! I don't care how tired you are! Suck it up and go get that goal back!"

Getzlav was noticeably pissed as the three players made their way back onto the ice, Selanne tried to keep a straight face but held the same feeling. Roberts sighed as he jumped over the boards. BEfore they made it to the circle Dunlop had one last thing to say.

"Hey, morons, if I didn't think you could do it, I wouldn't put you back out there."

It was a sick and twisted logic that both angered and resonated with the players on the ice and the guys on the bench. It was the steel fisted iron willed mentality that Coaches like Dunlop had been trying to instill in players all over the Eizen Empire. "Hit first, but if you get hit first, hit them back harder." was the mantra that had carried over from the military back over a hundred years ago when the best teams in the country were the military academy teams and all of the former players were ex-soldiers.

Right off the face off Getzlav won the draw and kicked it back to the defenseman, Boomstick Matthews, who took the Virabian defense by surpriseand took off, carrying the puck in over the blue line and unleashing a drive that sailed over the goaltender's head by a fraction of an inch and bunced off the glass. Crashing the net hard with what little energy they could muster, Getzlav crushed the Virabian forward into the boards to jostle the puck loose to Selanne, who skated with the puck behind the net and saw a streaking Roberts heading into the crease. The backhand pass landed perfectly on the blade of Roberts' stick and was lifted at a nearly impossible angle over the goaltender's glove to tie the game.

Before the Eizen tplayers could gather and celebrate though, Roberts barfed all over the ice. The Eizen fans in the crowd roared with approval, and the Imperial bench was struck with uncontrollable laughter, except for Dunlop, who expected nothing less from his top line.

(Second Period)

The deadlocked game had seen so many momentum changes and failed scoring opportunities that the fans in the seats knew that a fight was about to happen. It was only a matter of what minor unassuming play would set it off. The third line of Blackheart, Pathos, and Gorechild had the ice for Eizen. The third line had a good cycle going and when the puck was driven towards the net they nearly scored on a rebound. The Virabian goaltender covered the puck though as Gorechild skated in to try and jar it loose. A Virabian defenseman came over and bumped into Gorechild, a natural response towards such a play where the goaltender takes a little hit after the whistle incidentally, nothing out of the ordinary.

But without warning Gorechild dropped his gloves and stick and turned toward the Virabian. The Virabian, unwilling to fight at first held up his stick, but Gorechild took it and without warning actually BIT the composite stick in two. the shards of composite splintered off into his mouth, causing him to froth blood. Intimidated by this, the referees were at first unwilling to stand in. The Virabian reluctantly responded to the challenge and raised his first, only to take a crushing blow to the face that shattered his nose as Gorechild threw his entire arm into the punch.

Watching the game from the locker room, the dentist assigned to the team's medical staff drank slowly and pruposefully from a bottle of strong bourbon, knowing that he was about to have the most miserabe appointment anyone in his profession could ask for.

(Third Period)

Still tied with just moments to go, the Eizen team was mounting their assault. Dunlop had gambled by extending the shift of his fourth line and it had paid off, the top scoring line was ready to play against a Virabian checking line which had been used greatly during the third period.

With just over a minute to go though, Paavo Selanne got jobbed on an interference call, that, while technically valid, would never have been called in an Eizen Pinnacle league game.

The penalty would prove to be a blessing in disguise though, as the Eizen PK held strong and collected the puck as the penalty expired. As Selanne was going over the boards the puck just happened to be with Chris Prongermeyer, who specialized in long ticker tape passes down the ice. Selanne was all by himself on the other side of the ice when the puck shot like a laser through the mass of bodies on the Eizen side of the ice, leaving Paavo all alone with the Virabian goaltender. Pushing hard towards the net, Selanne raised his stick as if to shoot just as the Virabian goalie made his move.

Selanne came to a screeching halt and snow from the ice sprayed the goalie right in the face, adding to the confusion as he was completely baffled by the move. With just two seconds left on the clock Selanne calmly flipped the puck into the net for what would be the game winning goal.

Independent Media
the pirate radio which is the only news source of Estresse Intenso warzones

Oh well, it is not easy to get more news, things are becoming worse here in Estresse Intenso with each passing day. With so many bombs hitting the area surrounding our radio, we have been facing problems even in our transmission system. Yesterday the gangs suffered from a hard offensive move from the office buildings, with a veiled support from the usually inactive Government of Estresse Intenso. Airplanes gave support to the mechanical weapons, and the chaos was even bigger with the participation of rogue units. But this attack was destructive all around, and surprisingly we had a calmer day today... if you can hear, the noise of the explosions and gunshots is lower than usual, and the static is practically non-existant. So let's move on, so we can forget about the war for some moments and get on the sport, as this section of our news program is to talk about this. This time we managed to get the news for cigarettes and a long range missile, and some deodorants.

Remember that the Estresse Intenso team started the campaign in the World Cup of Hockey with a win over BrightonBurg, which showed that our players, even after having just left the war, have enough quality to feature in such a competition. But things weren't so positive for our Warriors... hmm, this could be our nickname... in the last two games, as we lost both. But that wasn't bad too. Let me explain: we played against Newmanistan and Plutoni. The group favourites and, to be more specific, one of them is the current champion squad of the competition and ranking leader. So, these were expected losses, and our team did fine to avoid horrible results. The team is playing well, following the rules and even showing some spells of brilliant talent. There are even some surprises in our squad. Everyone knew that Kohlmeir, Batista and Roch would play well, but Bragendgic and Itamaraty are doing much better than what was expected from them, and they may be important players in this campaign. So, stay tuned in our station to hear more news.

Shaw stood infront of the media, nervous as he'd ever been. He held his captain, Khuul, together although Khuul had never needed it. Shaw envied that his assigned captain had the confidence to hold any interview indepentantly...
"So Khuul, who is your MVP for the season so far"
"Khuul, how do you cope with the pressure of captaincy?"
Coach, how do you rate the team performance so far..?"
Shaw felt it necessary to interject in order to protect Khuul from indiscrestion at the time... not that it was necessary... a 3-1 win versus towcrokia gave the Cyrelian team the media respect they truly deserved!
"Hell, we played with finesse and honestly we played to formation and nothing else!" was Khuul's reply. Shaw interjected, a coaches response to the media:
"The team has played beyond expectations... I will keep working them hard but tonights win is a morale booster non-the-less!"

The media took notes and asked Khuul a few personal questions, which he took in his stride. Guiding this rookie team was Shaw's main objective: and so far the team had surpassed Shaw's wildest dreams: a 3-1 win was excellent: in the first priod Cyrelia went 1-1. from then the first and second line scored twice to finish 3-1 versus towcrowkia. Such a result ending in the second placing in the division meant that Cyrelia was finallly recognised as a dangerous opposition team in the league. Shaw would not let the team underestimate their opponents for the next match!
"Look, we've performed admirably so far... but Cyrelia has a lot to prove! consistency is the backbone of cyrelian hockey and this is what we aim to maintain! Bring on our opponents I have full faith that my team can match and overcome them!"
Shaw left the media for the first time in confidence that his team could fully face that challenge presented! Khuul left a few jock-based positive remarks and Shaw, for once, agreed... Cyrelia was an astute challenger for the cup! They had proved so much as far...

The next game would be hardest of all, but Shaw felt his team could overcome it! Cyrelian hockey was at its best, of which Shaw held no doubt!

Plutoni ice hockey blog: WCoH 10, Matchday 3
Onwards and upwards

The World Cup of Hockey resumed for Plutoni with a 4-0 victory over Estresse Intenso to move up to first place in the New Cleethorpes group, on goal differential ahead of their next opponent, Jeffgordonville. Plutoni would jump to a 2-0 lead in the first period and add a second-period goal on a power play.

Captain Shrindli Clom would record an assist on the first goal, notched by Spenkil Difire 7:42 into play. Meefla Katlon scored an unassisted goal with nine minutes remaining in the first period. Though Plutoni relaxed a bit during the second period, Estresse Intenso checked fairly hard. Finally, Gabriel Valsa was sent to the penalty box, and Jofri Spendral scored to make it 3-0. Derram Noklin scored the game's final goal, 4:19 from the end of the third period.

Comments:
1. mrdude: should of kept going we cna handle a little asbetors right??
2. icebaby: It's tempting, yes. But the power outages might have been a problem.
3. seb: Would they, though? It's not like we're dragging extension cords across the ice. THAT could be a problem.
4. icebaby: Not sure why I keep wasting my humor on you guys.
5. chchamp: we need power to run the goal lights!!!! go team!!!

Toyurska Sportnyhet

A LOT OF WORK FOR NOTHING
Toyur strong from start to finish but still lose
by Sven Magnusson

GRESCHMEIER, QUINTESSENCE OF DUST (TP) - Two games into the 11th World Cup of Hockey and Toyur had yet to shown their best over a full 60 minutes, yet had come away with two wins. In the third game, Toyur played a complete game yet fell 4-2 to Cassadaigua.

It wasn't perfect by any means. The problem with the Toyuri team in the 10th World Cup of Hockey was discipline, and that problem reared its ugly head in Greschmeier this evening. Three Grizzlies had paraded to the penalty box before Cassadaigua managed to notch a goal with the man (or sometimes woman) advantage. The penalty kill was as good as could be expected, but it was difficult for the Toyur top 6 forwards to get any sort of momentum when they were constantly resigned to the bench. Mats Hölmqvist, however, was logging more ice-time than usual in his penalty killing role. All told, the Grizzlies made 6 trips to the box.

Poor starts were a staple for this Toyur team, and they had seemed to erase that flaw with an early goal from Stefan Jansson early on. The Cassadagans drew level minutes later through part-time model Meghan Stafford, putting a shot over Dahlin's glove. Rachel Castelli put a shot in a similar position mere minutes later to put Cassadaigua up 2-1 after the first. Andrew Preston scored the aforementioned power play goal, which was replied on Toyur's own powerplay by Niklas Aspelin, powering a slap shot past Melanie Roy. The Grizzlies tried hard to tie it in the third, but the game was put away by Danielle Castleberry late on.

A loss then, but signs of improvement. They will need to work on discipline, which the next game with Chocolate Pencils will be a focal point. Magnus Hallen was scheduled at the start of the tournament to play in goal for this game. It can be seen on TSTV1.

An 8-1 decimation of Andrewboy sees Qazox at 2-0-1, but still in 3rd place in the group. 2 goals each from Sandra Guy and Cassidy Amos, coupled with a Qazoxian record 5 assists from Roy Davis, all in the first 2 periods gave Qazox a 7-0 lead. Despite allowing a power-play goal early in the 3rd period, Qazox stuffed 7 Andrewboy powerplays, in a game that got a bit scrappy in the third period.

Up next for Qazox is Cyrelia, who have gotten off to an 2-1-0 start and currently sit 1 point ahead of Qazox for 2nd in the group.

The play appeared normal. Tara Farmer intercepted a pass in her defensive zone and passed it to the speedy Martin McReynolds who then deked around Slava Kolosov to be in alone on goalie Michael Reid. McReynolds blasted it through the five hole of the goalie, and at 16:01 of the third period, Jeffgordonville has scored the tying goal. The crowd waving the white and red and not really a star went crazy, and the score would send the teams into a 1-1 deadlock.

Farmer was known for her hockey sense and McReynolds for his speed so certainly they had done this before, but in the minds of a couple of the Rockets players, mainly the ones who were suspicious of Slava’s wagering on games involving the team, the fact that McReynolds beat him for the goal meant they needed to talk about this and needed to do so now.

Carpentier: Tough break, Slava.

Kolosov: That guy good. He’s fast.

Bannister: We have to remember that Jeffgordonville is a good team.

Carpentier: And a nation in which Newmanistan has a lot of ties with, certainly there would be a lot of people interested in the game.

Anderson: Of course. Shouldn’t all of Newmanistan be watching all of our games, whether against a nation like Jeffgordonville or not.

Stuart: Don’t tell me that’s a raccoon.

Carpentier: Huh?

Bannister: What?

Stuart: God dammit it is! They were supposed to be getting rid of these damn things!

Carpentier: Well I guess he was a survivor.

Anderson: It’s a she.

Bannister: What?

Anderson: The raccoon, it’s a female. But anyway.

Bannister: Ah, yeah.

Stuart: Thank you, mister raccoon expert.

Carpentier: Slava, what happened?

Kolosov: He beat me. Its hockey. What happened to your pass that the Farmer woman intercepted of yours?

Carpentier: The puck rolled on me at the last second.

Kolosov: Yeah well, how am I supposed to anticipate that. You want to get on me over the gambling don’t you. Just because I am a Myedvedeyan-Newmanistanian you think I am stupid well don’t think I don’t know. McReynolds deked me out, I did what I always do, he’s a good player. You are just as much to blame for the goal as I am, Jacques.

Stuart: You should have leveled him.

Anderson: Physical play isn’t really Slava’s forte. No offense, Slava.

Kolosov: Thank you. And your right.

Bannister: Maybe you are right, Slava. But still we are concerned that you are wagering on Rockets games and fear that your play might be influenced by your wagers.

Kolosov: That’s bullshit. You think I tanked that?

Bannister: Well, not even an attempted pokecheck. Not even an attempted to hit him. We play you all the time in the EHL, we know you are great defensemen and you don’t get beat so easily.

Anderson: Well guys, hold on here.

Bannister: What?

Anderson: Maybe we should just give credit to McReynolds. I mean we knew he was their star player. We knew he had a shitload of speed and agility which makes him a great puckhandler. He’s not easy to take on in a one-on-one situation like that. Maybe we should give Slava the benefit of the doubt.

Kolosov: Thank you, Trevor.

Carpentier: Alright guys, let’s just drop it. I apologize if I over-reacted. Slava, I’m sorry. But you know...

Anderson: (interrupting): Apologies don’t come with buts. Look, Slava, you know you will be under the radar more in this locker room because you are wagering on Rockets games. You put yourself in this situation to where you are not going to get the benefit of the doubt with some of us on a play like this because of that. Slava, you have to understand that. And Jacques, your pass could have been better. Farmer was all over it.

Kolosov: Ok lets just all forget it and focus for the next game.

Carpentier: I agree. Let’s move past this. Sorry.

Coach Dunlop, eager to find a way to motivate his players that would show better results than the last time he had tried to motivate them after a win, was lounging in the hot tub at the team hotel when a stern but curvaceous female with her hair pinned up stalked from behind, the sound of her heels gave her away at first.

Coach Dunlop turned around to see that the woman was quite beautiful, and was wearing a very official looking business suit with a knee length skirt and glasses over her striking grey eyes.

"Meestur Dunlop I presume." She said with a noticeable Easern Imperial Accent.

Never one to censor himself, Dunlop simply smiled and nodded. "That's me sweet tits."

"You are just like he said you vould be." The woman said. "As much as I appreciate the sincerity of the monker you hev given me, I would prefer you simply call me Vidina."

"Vidina it is then, say you wouldn't happen to know how to get a group of 25 guys to do what they normally do but better and smarter than they have ever done it before?"

Vidina smiled and corssed her arms. "Coach Dunlop, are you seeking coaching advice? My how the press would hev a field day with this pessimism."

"First thing about coaching, well the second or third thing really...always keep your ears open for new ideas, never ignore anything before you've heard it!" Coach said as he activated the jets on the tub. "Care to join me?"

"Believe it or not the offer is tempting Coach, however you are rather old and I vould hate to induce a heart attack vere you to see more of what I looked like underneath. Also, I don't think my brother would approve."

"Why should I, or you for that matter, care what your brother thinks?"

"Half brother actually, but he is also my employer, and a very important man. One does not normally put fruitless flirtation above the orders of the Emperor."

"The Emp...wha?" Dunlop said with amazing shock.

"Perhaps I should have been more formal with my introduction. I am Vidina Eizen, Half Sister to his most glorious Grand Emperor Eizen III, Princess of the Royal Family, and newly appointed Administrator of the Imperial Institutiona Athletica. To put it bluntly, i'm your boss."

Suddenly very mindful that he was dealing with Royalty, Dunlop kept quiet, and hoped that the Princess would not notice that we was completely nude beneath the bubbles of the tub and the streaming jets of water.

"I regret that my status has curtailed your sense of humor Coach. The Emperor actually appreciates your bluntness, he thinks you would hev made a fine general would that have been your choice in life. My purpose here has nothing to do with the incidents surrounding our national team, so relax. My duty is to provide you with whatever support you deem fit."

Dunlop's gaze turned skeptical. "Am I hearing you right? Is the Emperor cutting me a blank check?"

"To a point coach, to a point." Vedina said as she smiled wide. "The exploits of your team, regardless of the outcome, are having an incredible effect on our national morale."

An idea finally coalesced into the epiphany Dunlop had been seeking, and in his excitement he jumped up, accidentally exposing himself to a member of the Imperial Royal Family and a few fellow guests at the hotel. Quickly, he fetched a towel.

"Sorry about that, hey listen, I've been doing the pep talk thing for years and all that, but there's something I lack in that department." Dunlop stammered.

"And vat vould that be?"

"Why a crown of course! IF you can get the Emperor to record a few words of encouragement I think the guys will really get a kick out of it, that will really get it to sink in that they're playing for a lot more than themselves."

Vedina considered the proposal for a moment "I believe the Emperor vould honor this request. I can probably hev it ready for the next game."

"Great! Oh, and uhhh one more thing. Do our guys have diplomatic immunity? Pietro's shenanigans are starting to catch up to us and now none of us are allowed back at the Highmark City Zoo..."

The Jeffgordonville Star

Yes, we know it's technically not a star

Jeffgordonville ties with Plutoni

A day after tying up the game with Newmanistan, the Jeffgordonville side showed their stubbornness in refusing the other team victory, by tying against two-time defending champions Plutoni, after entering the third 3-1 down.

The game started well for Jeffgordonville, however. Landon Johnson won the opening face-off, and sent the puck off to Carl Bouvier. Bouvier skilfully dodged a rather-nasty looking check from Shrindli Clom, before passing the puck to Jimmy McReynolds. McReynolds then took the puck right up to the goal, and fired a sloppy but effective backhander at point blank range, getting around Lilam Ostal via the right post. The goal put Jeffgordonville up 1-0, but that would not last.

Soon after the second face-off, Patrick O'Kneel lazily hip-checked Matthew Wroder, something Wroder took offence to. A few moments later, after O'Kneel had picked up the loose puck, Wroder checked O'Kneel, resulting in the defenceman initiating a fight with the Plutoni forward. After being punched in the back of the head, Wroder delivered a flurry of jabs to O'Kneel's face and torso, before winding up for a more damaging punch. Before the punch could be delivered, however, O'Kneel retaliated with one of his trademark uppercuts, though, amazingly, Wroder refused to go down. He was clearly suffering by this point, though, and all it took was one final blow to Wroder's upper body to win the fight.

Despite losing, however, Wroder's bravery seemed to inspire the Plutoni side, and, at 8 minutes into the first, Jofri Spendral equalised the score on the powerplay, getting the puck past Kyle Johnson. Both teams were fired up at this point and eager to pull ahead, but the defences were equally eager not to concede any goals, resulting in the score remaining 1-1 until the end of the first. As the second period began, though, Plutoni began to exhibit just what had made them the champions of WCOH 9 and 10. Even early in the period, it was clear that the team was coping with the game better than the Jeffgordonvillians, and this allowed them to break the deadlock halfway through the second, with Meefla Katlon scoring with a well-timed wrister. 2 minutes later, Alexander Cashman did likewise, taking the score to 3-1, where it remained until the end of the second.

As the teams returned to the locker rooms, the Jeffgordonvillians knew they had to step things up if they were to prove themselves worthy of a playoff berth. Team Coach Mikko Kozarowitzky proceeded to give the team a pep talk in the hopes of reinvigorating them for the third period. It seemed to work, as although Tara Farmer lost the faceoff to Meefla Katlon, once the team recovered the puck, it was not a minute before Martin McReynolds gave the team some measure of hope, scoring with a slapshot 5 minutes in. The Plutoni defence began tightening up after that, the team not willing to let the full 2 points out of their grasp. However, it was not enough, as with 2 minutes remaining on the clock, Frederica Lyons intercepted a Derram Noklin pass, and pulled off a marvellous snapshot which proved just out of the glove reach of Lilam Ostal, equalising the scoreline at 3-3. Both teams then scrambled furiously in an attempt to break the tie, but excellent saves by both Lilam Ostal and Kyle Johnson ensured the score remained tied.

Mikko Kozarowitzky said of the team's performance, "It was a good show from the team to rally back from two goals down against a team as good as Plutoni. Tying with them has me now convinced we can make the playoffs. However, the game was not all good; as you could see in the second, we let Plutoni get those two goals relatively easily. There is still work to be done, but I do believe we are heading in the right direction."

The tie between Jeffgordonville and Plutoni, coupled with Newmanistan's 7-0 demolition of BrightonBurg means that the New Cleethorpes group is one of, if not the most, hotly contested group, with Jeffgordonville, Plutoni, and Newmanistan all tied on 6 points, separated only by goal difference.

Volunteers trump Nordics, keep group lead

The Volunteers overcame an early slip to overcome the Tocrowkia Nordics in what was technically an upset (the Nords being ranked 11th in the world versus the Vols being 21st), but which helped cement the Volunteers' lead in the Toonmar group with a 4-0 record and a +9 goal differential.

Kristin Maarks, also, is turning out to be the quintessential 'bitch with a stick,' after having a goal in the game, while Allaaks Oevachkun had the other goal and Maarkus Stahlburg and Niekulus Baakstruum each had an assist.

Kristin also caused (and won) two fights. Yeah, that's right. The little girl kicked a big guy's butt. Or big girl's butt, if you're one for details.

Little Kristin ended up starting a rare fight (and being penalized for it) with Audrey Haviland, who also scored the Nordic's lead-gaining score in the first period. And we're proud to say, little Kristin won, wrestling Haviland to the ground to cheers of "bitch-with-a-stick!" and "catfight!" and delivering some rather unfair hits after the fact, and going to the penalty box to cheers at the end of the second period, lighting a fire in her teammates as they returned for the third period; Allaaks was quickly set up by Baakstruum early in the period, scoring to tie the game at 1-1. By the time Maarks returned, the Vols were set to take a lead that was rightfully theirs, after being set-up by Maarkus Stahlburg, smacking one in past Adrian Lais to get them a 2-1 lead that they'd keep with 1:14 remaining in the period. The Volunteers hung onto it, and won the game.

Their next opponent is Cyrelia, who have proved to be pretty formidable, and shouldn't be overlooked.

Scoring:
Volunteers -- 0 - 0 - 2 --- 2
Nordics ------ 1 - 0 - 0 --- 1

First Period
16:14 - Haviland goal, Graessener assist

Second Period
No scoring

Third Period
17:41 - Oevachkun goal, Baakstruum assist
1:14 - Maarks goal, Stahlburg assist

Andrew’s Blog

Yesterday we had Euroslavia in a position that they weren’t used to. Generally, they are known for drawing penalties against them, but last night we had them head to the penalty box, receiving six power plays to only surrendering one as we play a terrific game in all ends of the rink. Our 3-0 victory, coupled with a win over the strangely named nation of Chocolate Pencils over Toyur, plus a San Giorgio tie with The Babbage Islands means that we have opened up a three point advantage over the second place Bumblebees in the Greschmeier group. Obviously there is still plenty of time left, but we are very happy with they way that we have played so far. Getting on the board early set the tone of the game for us as we stuck the puck in the net in our first shift of the game as Kathleen Doyle banked in a rebound of a shot of mine to just cross the goal line at 26 seconds. The Euroslavia goalie thought that he stopped the puck from crossing the line entirely, but the ref had a good view of it and emphatically pointed towards the goal to signal that it had went in. Their goalie got a little annoyed, and we think that may have the start of them playing a little more undisciplined then they usually do as we quickly drew an unsportsmanlike conduct minor on the goalie. We didn’t score on the power play, but after two and a half minutes, we had a 6-0 shots advantage. Late in a first period, the checking line stuck one in the net as Allen Johnson banged home a rebound. We outshot Euroslavia 20-3 in the first period, and the scoreboard showed it. The second was much more even and the Euros showed their tremendous heart, but Melanie Roy would not allow them to score, keeping it 2-0 despite them outshooting us 14-8 in that period. Midway through the third, we scored a power play goal to put the game away thanks to a Meghan Stafford wrister. That clinched the win. We outshot Euroslavia for the game 37-23.

Meghan Stafford has been becoming quite a celebrity. Pegged as the future of our hockey program, it appears as though her day in the sun is coming much sooner then expected. Apparently, some photos of her modeling clothes for Klein & Klein made it to Concord Heights very quickly (gotta love that internet) and she is slated to earn several endorsement deals when she returns home. Some have used it against her, saying that what a couple of us did on our off day shows a lack of focus, but if people don’t think we have been focused on the matter on hand, I don’t know what they have been watching in Greschmeier.

GRESCHMEIER, Quintessence of Dust (BPA) -- The Babbage Islands Bumblebees will carry a 2-1-1 mark into their final qualifying match of World Cup of Hockey 11. This follows a 2-1 game three victory over Euroslavia and a disappointing 3-3 tie with San Giorgio a Cremano in game four.

The third game was dominated by The Babbage Islands, with 30 shots on goal versus 13 for Euroslavia. Scorers were Auguste Gironne (from Lippert and Cooke) and Gary Johnson (from Rouleau). The lone Euroslavian goal came at 10:11 of the third on a 5-on-3 power play.

The San Giorgio a Cremano match was defined by an awkward accident near the end of the first period with The Babbage Islands up 1-0 on a Tamara Lewis breakaway. During a furious San Giorgio power play two players got entangled in front of the net and slid through the crease, knocking over Babbage goalie Emily Johnson. Johnson was knocked unconscious on the play, and had to be carried from the ice.

The first period would end with the same 1-0 score, but five goals -- two by the Bumblebees (Bailey from Parker and Hebert; Clarke from Gironne) and three by San Giorgio -- would be scored in the second period amidst ten penalty calls. Backup goalie Ethan Collins was very shaky at first for The Babbage Islands, but eventually settled in. The referee took the unusual step of warning both benches late in the period. As a result, the third period would see only one minor penalty on each side and no scoring, leaving the score at 3-3.

The Bumblebees' next match is against Toyur, with second place in group on the line. It is difficult at best to project qualifying scenarios for either team, but if the playoffs ended now Toyur would be one place shy.

"Good work guys." Shaw consoled the quiet changing room as they sat desolately around him, "Qazox are a good team, we knew that, and we can take a good few positives from today. Firstly, a three-two loss is nothing to be ashamed of."
Webb responded with a sceptical grunt.
"Oi, Webb, none of that! If you're unhappy with your performance then suck it up and work harder next training! Ignore the score boys, we played well and kept with them all the way. Yes they put one more past us but we are not out for this. We've just lost a close match with one of the best teams in the world so don't you dare let your heads drop or I swear I'll bench you!" Shaw frowned disapprovingly at Webb "You included, Webb."

Shaw left the changing room and made for his hotel apartment. The match had been close, he needed his team to understand that. They had come so close to beating Qazox it had really hit Shaw hard that Qazox came back in the final period. Regardless, he knew his team would work even harder now; a loss would only move to strengthen their resolve. Shaw worried about Webb though, his head had dropped in the last two games and he needed him to stay on board. He had told Merrick to keep an eye on his over the next few days as he really needed Webb at his best. The next match would be their biggest challenge, Cyrelia needed a win to reinforce their conviction that they could go far in the World Cup.

World Cup of Hockey 11 coverage

Crisis!

Three stunning losses in a row, one to Qazox and two to teams that many would consider 'nobodies' on the international ice hockey scene have sunk the Nordics to 1-0-3. During the past three games, Adrian Lais has been lit up for eight goals. He was pulled from the game last night in favor of veteran Ernst Harnoth. Lais has reported to the media he has been sent numerous death threats after the lose to Qazox, and head coach Justin Michahelles was reported to have sustained minor facial injuries when he got into a brawl with several despondent fans in the aftermath of the most recent failure. Audrey Haviland tried to remain positive despite the teams current grim situation, saying "We still have six matches to regroup and try and put this terrible, terrible era of hockey behind us. And we are all focused on that now."

"Dude, did it hurt?" Niekulus asked, smiling.

"Whatta hell ya talkin' about?" Maarkus replied irritably.

"That fall." Niekulus again.

"Huh?"

"Dude, he's out." That was Kristin, who, after the victory (in the game and fight) had joined the boys for a round out in the town, getting dirty looks from a lot of the locals.

They all stared at Maarkus's barely lucid form, shaking their heads.

Allaaks shook his head. "No way he'll be better for the next game."

Theodur looked worried. "So what do we do?"

Shrug. "Get him back to the room, and tell coach."

Kristin shook her head. "We're down a center now. Who's going to take over for Niek on the second line?"

They all looked at Theodur.

"What?" he asked, as the pressure fell on him all at once. "Oh shit," he muttered.

OOC: Niekulus Baakstruum is now the starting center-foward, with Theodur Braannur as the center for the second line.

Ice hockey confusing but very exciting claims new fan

Aidan McLaren hadn't meant to end up in Quintessence of Dust, he'd much less meant to end up in the Quintessential capital where Sorthern Northland happened to be playing. He'd much rather have made it to Shimyang, Daehanjeiguk to follow the under-21 football team, or to Springfield, Logria to support the rugby team. Alas, his sat-nav however had somehow taken him to Highmark City or something in the vague vicinity of it.

“I thought I might as well make the most of it” he explains, “so I decided to come down and follow the ice hockey team.”

Not that he'd previously had any previous knowledge of the sport or had previously watched, what with being from one of the large swathes of Sorthern Northland that has little to no interest in ice hockey. Having watched Sorthern Northland's 3-1 win over Eizen and thrown his beanie onto the rink to celebrate Aoibhín Uí Cathail's three goal haul in the 4-3 defeat to Delaclava Aidan now considers himself a convert.

“It's a very exciting sport.” he claims, though he admits he does find some aspects of it confusing, adding “I admit though I'm a long way from understanding it. Our players keep getting fouls called against them for 'icing' for example, but I've yet to see one of them add the finishing touches to a cake.”
