Your Ideal One World Government

Postby Stalinist Earth » Sun May 12, 2013 7:15 am

Reactionaries and conservatives often label the prospect of a one world government an 'evil' and 'authoritarian' idea. But in my opinion, it is not 'authoritarian' at all; it is the most liberating of ideas that would advance humanity as a whole and remove useless cultural and political barriers to create a better, prosperous and equal future for our children and their children.

But that's all depending on what sort of government it is. A centralised one? A decentralised one? A capitalist one? As you can see by my nation title, my ideal world government would be a Stalinist/socialist transitionary government that would collectivise all land and industry. It would be a dictatorship of the proletariat, and across the world in every town and province and land mass there would be workers' councils. These councils would control the means of production, healthcare, welfare and other facets of government.

To prevent the rich exploiting the workers and controlling an irresponsibly large amount of money, the state/councils would have an economic policy in place called negative-interest, or demurrage, i.e. there would be an actual fee for owning money. The state/councils would lowly subtract money from accounts over time by a percentage. In practice, this makes having large amounts of money quite costly, because the more money owned, the more of it would be lost to demurrage. Demurrage would encourage the rich to spend, invest, and loan more money instead of allowing it to languish in their personal accounts to no purpose beyond accumulating more wealth.

The people of the world would be working towards full communism through the achievement of these goals:
-World peace
-Intellectual destruction of selfishness/individualism
-Eradication of poverty
-Expansion into space

The last one in particular would be important. When all the previous goals are attained, production would be geared almost solely towards interstellar development so that humanity can reach the stars, colonising new worlds, taking their resources, producing new technologies and advancing the species as a whole. This would usher in an age of 'post-scarcity' communism, in which anyone, anywhere can have whatever they need at any time. No single person would have anything more than they needed, but post-scarcity communism would be a utopia. Everyone would be happy.

It's my opinion that communism can never be attained using Earth's resources alone. Communism can only be attained using the resources of the stars.

TL;DR: A Stalinist government working towards full communism through space exploration.

So, what would be your ideal one world government?

The world's population is too culturally diverse to be effectively ruled by a single government currently, perhaps ever. I think a federation, like a more powerful version of the UN, might work. All of the governments currently in place would still exist, but they would appoint representatives to a general assembly of sorts, and said assembly would be able to set broad guidelines that have real power rather than the situation today where the power of a UN resolution is determined by how the extent to which the largest nations support it.

Depends on technology, transportation, communications, etc. That is usually one of the main limitations.

As to the OP, I'd like a democratic market socialist federal world government.

The idea of a Stalinist world state, from which there is no escape, is utterly terrifying.

I'd like to see a global democratic republican federation emerge, with basically a bicameral global legislature consisting of elected representatives based off population factors (with the world divided into 'constituencies' of approximately 10 million people each) as well as a sort of Senate representing nation-states as a whole.

Ideally this would come complete with a constitution, a global bill of rights and a means of enforcing this including a global military/police + taxation system.

Essentially it would be more of a federation than a global government, but I certainly see it as fully possible and indeed I'll be very surprised if this doesn't come to fruition by the end of the millennium.

Infeasible and unnecessary. As communication barriers erode and the world as a whole advances technologically cultural barriers will erode on their own. Attempting to destroy someone's culture in the name of homogeneity is simply malevolence masquerading as progress.

Cultural diversity is necessary to the continuation of the human race, because numerous perspectives facilitate invention. A one culture human race is one that will stagnate.

I think my ideal one world government would be a complete lack of one. An anarcho-syndacalist, stateless and internationalist society driven by fraternal solidarity. But, I think we're the wrong species for that.

I would personally not want one global government as I think it would be too much power for too few. It might be alright if, with one central executive branch, constitution and currency ensuring the same universal rights and freedoms for all people everywhere, the uni-state was then split into various regions with autonomous power in a federal model similar to the States. But, I think that's what the UN and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is supposed to do anyway but look how hollow that is. There is still genocide and oppression going on all over the world, despite a number of nations with powerful militaries adopting the declaration.

I'm an internationalist and I would love for a stateless society to be achievable, but various groups are too fundamentally culturally incompatible, resources are distributed too unevenly, poverty is rampant and crippling and our species is only half a chromosome away from chimpanzees and it clearly shows. =I

A dark room with nine people on giant pedestals in their own spot light and two pikemen who drag people out after having addressed 'the council'...
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Yes. Well, that would be the critical part of it anyway. Obviously there would need to be a constitution, some form of court system, and people to make sure that the mandates are obeyed.

I believe that a Stalinist world government would force a new age in space exploration. Those with any kind of personal ambition and independence would be clamoring for a seat on an outbound vessel. The government, if those in power had any sense, would be glad to see them go. They would carry mankinds seed throughout the universe while leaving a stunted ant-like remnant at home. Yes, I am sure that there would be worldwide peace. The peace of tyranny and the grave.
We are a liberal Democracy with many vocal, sometimes disruptive and often smelly opposition groups. These are tolerated with amused smiles and the occasional application of a well-placed baton.
