August Report

Well, it was an eventful month indeed. The first and last trades of the season shook up the FBL in a sense, while also strengthening certain teams' positions. However, El Cajon's long run on top - 26 games, the longest on the trot for any FBL team this season - was finally put to rest by Linda Vista a few days ago, in a return to form driven by ace ¹⁵Ige Ameqran, surprising world-beating starter ³Tallulah Clemens, and buoyed by a strong bullpen led by the top-ranked reliever, ¹³Kurt Vasundhara. Federal Team backup Ximeno Dylan is having a strong year starting in left field for the Scholars, but their bread and butter is pitching, with a league-topping 3.39 staff ERA.

Meanwhile, Imperial County, still fresh from their FBL championship and BCCC semifinal run where they put everyone but world champions Ile Perrot Epee to bed, are reeling from a sophomore slump in the league where they only just emerged from the relegation zone, now just a game ahead of Solana Beach which faces the same fate they had earlier. A winning season is still narrowly possible, but even their hot form of late would scarcely do the trick if they repeated it the rest of the way out. Their stars were loyal, even requiring a team vote to trade away their second base defender for an upgrade to their middle infield. The starting rotation was the quickest to turn thing around, with a rise to .500 among the second and third pitchers - Bhaskara and Bedwyr, pushed up the rotation by the demotions of Tancred Artemisios and Fred Halewig - backed up by a turn into the black for Federal Team starter ³¹Nesrin Beverley, whose off-the-wall pitches can only be handled by fellow international Sanda Kisha behind the plate; and an attack that is good enough to land almost anywhere on the table with some justice.

Still, only newcomers Altaloma (set to return to the Minor Leagues if their atrocious form continues) have been eliminated from the pennant in a mathematical sense, so it is difficult to predict what will happen over the next "game month". Even the schedule cannot be set in stone, as upcoming labor disruptions threaten to postpone the end of the season and force re-sending last year's four AIBC member teams.

Imperial County
It was a relatively strong month for the defending champions, who have finally escaped the relegation zone for now - just a game ahead of Solana Beach. With the second-strongest improvement for a starting rotation, the desert county side appears ready for their final push in an effort to stay in the FBL. No transactions were deemed necessary.

Lemon Grove
On top of a three-way tie at 52-58, Lemon Grove are in an unflattering position but only five wins out of the playoff zone. A month ago they were expected to demote CP Zaki Ljiljiana, with one of the worst save percentages, at this time. However, Ljiljiana turned in a surprising August with the lion's share of the team's 11 saves.

SP Jozsi Hermania was offered a demotion to RP or release to the Minor Leagues. She chose the bullpen.

RP Zdeslav Staas was promoted to SP. Each spot in the rotation will move back by a day, and Staas will join at the fifth slot.

Solana Beach
Hovering near the bottom of the mid-table for most of the season, the northern San Diego County coastal town slumped badly in August and are now fighting Imperial County for their FBL lives.

CP Ray Goizargi is tied for the most blown saves with 9. He chose demotion to RP over release to the Minor Leagues.

RP Américo Gil was promoted to CP on a provisional basis.

Rancho Peñasquitos
At the start of the season, the Ranchers had the most anarchic pitching staff, with 11 Pitchers merely designated with the letter P, not differentiated by starting, relieving or closing roles. That changed on August 1, when the team had to change while struggling to remain relevant. They promoted a rookie starter and reliever, demoted two pitchers to relief-only roles to hone the rotation, and de facto closer Rainard Montgomery extracted an official promotion to CP in exchange for staying the last two months. The new rotation has been dubbed the "Seven Flex", a flexible seven-pitcher starting rotation where only rookie Daithi Fidela and star pitcher Amit Baltaasar are guaranteed to start in each cycle. Now, at 55-55 after a streaking August, the Ranchers have decided to go all the way, consolidating the staff into a traditional five-day rotation in a bid to maximize their potential to make the playoffs and rejoin the Champions' Cup. In a way, it is still actually a flexible seven-person rotation, since Dominik Hanan and Gregor Kunti retain the "P" designation and could theoretically be used in a starting role if the club wanted to. After Hanan's tough luck and 3-6 record, Kunti is considered more likely to start, but could also see use as a backup to Montgomery in the last month.

P Amit Baltaasar, Marina Quang, Antonia Silvester and Ruben Romero were promoted to SP.

San Pedro
Languishing at 52-58, the only club without a closer, San Pedro are slipping toward the danger zone but still have a chance to crack the playoffs. One of the two rookie starters called up for August was demoted after a 1-3 showing.

SP Chris Barclay chose to move to the bullpen instead of going back to the minor leagues.
RP Katja Aksel was unilaterally released to the minor leagues to make room in the bullpen. She joined Santa Ana (Senior Circuit).

SP Essence Delbert was called up from Arroyo Seco (Senior Circuit).

Venice
One of the last teams with a rigid six-day rotation, Venice cut out their worst-performing starter to date in an effort to save their season from missing the playoffs. The move could backfire as they add stress and workload to the other five pitchers, however. Once king of the hill in the FBL earlier this season, Venice have slipped to a two-way tie for ninth place, just outside of the playoff zone.

SP Ray Janicek chose the bullpen instead of the minor leagues. He is expected to be used in a long-relief role.

Over the season, a clear standard for rank or grade within most clubs has developed. New kinds of transactions have made the adoption of a formal code necessary for most, to facilitate the timely release of underperforming players and let everyone know where they stood.

The FBL Pay Standards Oversight Committee has identified a set of "Standard Field Ranks" and one of "Standard Pitching Ranks", which are the most common ways for clubs to rank players. With the release of the FBL-PSOC's report, clubs rushed to officially name their captains, chiefs, etc. who had not officially done so, in an effort to boost morale and capture at least sub-headings on the Federal Sports Report marquee.

Standard field ranks: Reserve, Uniform, Specialist/Lieutenant, Chair, Starter, Captain
Std pitching ranks: Reserve, Limited, Provisional, RP, SP/CP, Captain

"Lieutenant" and "Chair" ranks tend to exist only in situations where a field position is handled "by committee": sometimes all of the most likely starters in a position are Specialists, but sometimes one is most likely to start, and that one is usually called the Chair or similarly demarcated.

The most variance was in how these roles were assigned. Some teams had completely democratic structures, while others nominated a few senior players to sit on an executive committee, created a rotating role, or even hired a general manager or management committee.

The Rancho Peñasquitos Ranchers, generally the most anarchic club in the League, have voted over months for a patchwork system that looks like this:

During the lost games, a few transactions were made by various clubs and Altaloma was relegated. Their transactions were automatically frozen for the remainder of the season, to protect their current players' bargaining positions and prevent other teams from raiding their roster by creating and then exploiting chaos in the Minor Leagues.

In the offseason, they can bid to join FBL teams, angle for a better position in the Minor Leagues or simply try to get back to the big show with the club from Rancho Cucamonga in San Bernardino County. It is rumored that CP Clarissa Chinedu, RP Lies Jernigan, and starters Sacnite Helma and Nidia Mayer plus Capt. SP Jack Lyndon, not to mention Capt. LF Vikrama Stacey, 2B Victor Nichole and C Tot Dollie, all have realistic chances of landing FBL employment in the offseason.

This is the first Federal Series (or equivalent) appearance of either team, El Cajon (east San Diego County desert city) or Riverside County (to the northeast, split between desert and wine country). However, they were both strong throughout the FBL season, El Cajon eventually winning the pennant as well as leading the league for the longest total time and the two longest consecutive runs.

The fourth-largest city in San Diego County, El Cajon is known for its historic Free University campuses dating back to the First Labor Peace of the early 20th century, its thriving immigrant communities, international cuisine, art and music scene, the Southern Pass Mountains overlooking the county from on high, the Major Southern Depot for Califas Rail, and a hot, dry climate perfect for the Main Street Summer Festival of Classic Cars, one of the largest sources of exception claims against the federal ban on automobiles outside of Los Angeles County.

The historic economic center of citrus production in pre-revolutionary South Califas, Riverside County is still home to the Federal Citrus Museum and Park. Lately, though, the region is better known for its full-bodied, affordable wines in several varietals and its Coachella Valley International Music Festival, a destination for punk, pop, dance, hip-hop and country stars alike, plus a rotating roster of world genres. Split between farmland (citrus/wine) in the west and desert (Coachella) in the east by the East Califas River, Riverside County is also known for its University of Califas campus, internationally renowned for its special focus on diversifying access to education which brings a Free University feel to UCR. Once sotted with exurbs of Los Angeles and San Diego, western Riverside County has now built an independent cultural mystique with the growing prestige of the Temecula wine region and a string of important scientific discoveries at the University of Califas - Riverside which were fundamental to building the federal rail system on budget.

The company of Arbreville Slugger Bat Makers Co. would like to bid to be sponsor of the Baseball Club Champion's Cup. Arbreville is a city in northeast Sicoutimont, with the name meaning Tree Town. Lots of trees surrond the area in large forests, and among these is the White Ash tree. These grow lots in the Arbreville area. So, in 1968, Pierrick Laudon, a baseball player for a local minor team, after breaking multiple bats in a game, decided to create his own bats. On that day, Arbreville Slugger was born. Now led by Pierrick's grandson, Jean-Yves Laudon, Arbreville Slugger sells the most sporting goods per year. All Ligue Baseball Sicoutimont teams use Arbreville Slugger and the Arbreville Vert-Sox are sponsored by Arbreville Slugger. What started as a small White Ash farm in Arbreville producing bats lead to hundreds of farms across the nation, growing the trees for Arbreville Slugger. Arbreville Slugger continues its quest to provide the best baseball bats in the multiverse by offering to sponsor the Baseball Club Champion's League. In addition to sponsoring the tournament, a special 'Champion's Discount' would be given to all teams in ranked BCCC leagues. This discount would allow teams to use the Arbreville Slugger bats for a lower cost. In addition to this, Arbreville Slugger will promote the BCCC through special BCCC-licensed products, for example a special pair of batting gloves, featuring the BCCC logo. Stadium Bid:
Parc Ile Perrot-Ile Perrot, Sicoutimont-Capacity 51,000
One of the largest stadiums in the nation, Parc Ile Perrot is home to the Ile Perrot Epee baseball team, and has been since the club was established in 2012, 7 years ago. It is an open-roofed stadium, and is located right in downtown Ile Perrot. Ile Perrot is a city of 12 million on the outskirts of Sicoutimont's capital, Lac-Drouin. It is, as you guessed, on an island, the largest in the Archipelago Drouin that the National Capital Region is situated on. So why Parc Ile Perrot? A few tournaments ago, the BCCC was held at Parc PowerEternite in St-Simeon, and now, the company that owns Parc Ile Perrot feels the AIBC can't ignore the stadium of its top team, and decided the time was now to bring the baseball world to Parc Ile Perrot. Dragons win league championship

Our very own Kerlagrad Dragons, runners-up in three of this league's seasons (including its first as an independent, sixteen-team league), have finally become winners for the first time, defeating the 102d Gray Sox in a seven-game final series.

They had enjoyed the largest margin of divisional victory for a few seasons. Once again, the Logrove Dolphins were their closest competitors, but they finished under .500 this year in a far cry from their triumph under Eileen Janvier. The Hadiln Tigers, last season's winners, also had a healthy distance from their nearest competition, the admittedly better-than-average Inver Millers. A much harder fight was in store for the Gray Sox, holding off the Frischberg Flash, although they both had exactly the same records as last season so maybe they're used to it. Things were almost as tight in the traditionally-competitive northeast, with the Weegham Rainmakers completing a worst-to-first comeback over the Aurora.

In the playoffs, the Tigers faced down the Gray Sox in a rematch of last season's championship, and the first game went their way. They couldn't hold on, however, and the Gray Sox rallied to take the series in four games. The Dragons, in contrast, would need all five to hold off the surprising Rainmakers, who took the first game but then fell down 2-1. Though they'd tie it in game four, Kerlagrad was able to piece together a 5-3 victory to make the championship series.

It's worth noting, given the surprising nature of the Tigers' title run last time around, that these playoff teams have three of the Zebras' twenty-five runners-up. Combined. No idea how that'll influence the national team, then, but frankly, Kerlagrad fans have more pressing things on their mind right now. Except instead of "pressing down in pressure" it's "lightening up in joy and happiness."

The Dragons got off to a 2-0 lead, which the Gray Sox made up for in the next two. Game five was a classic, with Dragons starter Katerina Maurkman lasting in the tenth, outlasting 102d hurler Paolo Tianza. Neither, however, allowed a run, and it took till the tenth for the Dragons to get the only run of the game across. Despite the surprisingly non-tired bullpen, they'd lose 6-2 in game six, and so have to play another full-length season. A 4-2 win sent the Gray Sox to their second second-place finish in as many seasons. And, more importantly, gave our wonderful city its first-ever championship.

The Twelfth Baseball Club Champions Cup

Procedure
- 60 teams from 15 leagues
- The tournament will consist of the following rounds:

Qualifying Round 1: 15 Fourth seeded teams v. 15 Third seeded teams
Qualifying Round 2: 15 remaining Third/Fourth seeded teams and the Second seeded teams from the 11 lowest ranked leagues will be randomly drawn together, with the only condition that teams from the same association cannot play each other.

Round 1: 15 First seeded teams, 4 Second seeded teams and the 13 QR2 winners will be randomly drawn together, with the only condition that teams from the same association cannot play each other.
Round 2: The remaining 16 teams will be randomly drawn together.
Round 3: The remaining 8 teams will be randomly drawn together.
Round 4: The remaining 4 teams will be randomly drawn together.
Round 5: Final

All matches, except the final, will be 'best of three': the first team to win two matches, advances.
The final will be 'best of five': the first team to win three matches, wins.

New Sponsor Selection
The Selection Committee for the new sponsor is made up of 13 members from the AIBC Boards of Trustees. The bid with the lowest number of votes per round will be removed and the next round of voting will take place. The winner of the sponsorship is the bid who wins the final round of voting, OR accumulates 50% + 1 of any individual round's vote before the final round.

The AIBC recieved two sponsor bids, one from Telstar, a major telecommunication company from Filopines, and Arbreville Slugger, the leading producer of sports goods in Sicoutimont.

The Twelfth Baseball Club Champions Cup

BCCC 13 entry details:
Every league is allowed to send four teams, multiassociational leagues (as of yet there are none) are allowed to send up to six teams, of which a maximum of four teams may be from the same league.
The deadline for the 13th BCCC will be 11-Jun-2013

Host bids will follow the same criteria as last season: entry must at least have a stadium name, capacity, and city. The Finals venue will be determined via a knockout vote style. Last place stadium in the round is dropped out, and at any time a stadium gets more than half of the votes, all voting ends and that stadium is determined to be the host. If no host bids are received, the Finals will take place at the National Stadium in Sraltlur, Ko-oren. This also opens the host bid for the final of the 13th BCCC: you may submit your host bid along with your entry details, the deadline of which will also be 11-Jun-2013

Baseball Leagues of Free South Califas - Ninth Edition

After a promising run in a much-ballyhooed BLFSC season, Riverside County fell early in the playoffs, like almost every Califan team. San Luis Obispo County made it to the quarterfinals in a season with an impressive pitching staff and solid buy-in. Meanwhile, the Federal Team has remained a force to be reckoned with in the WBC, reaching the semifinals in Equestrian States before an early exit following a first-round sweep by bracket-busting Allinlia in Cassadaigua.
