Most fantasy shows that have dubs are good because fantasy will translate well into anything. It doesn't matter if the characters speak Japanese, English, or Esperanto, the world doesn't exist and everyone is of an ambiguous race.

Now Code Geass, that is when an English dub works so well that it may as well be the only way to go. If it's in Japanese, it makes no sense. Why would Britannians speak in the tongue of a filthy Eleven? They would speak English, all of them. Pretty much any show that has a western setting (in the sense of western culture) would benefit from English.

True.

I prefer the Japanese voices with English subs, it just sounds a lot more natural, besides the English voices can get very annoying at times. For example Watching Full Metal Alchemist with subs was fine, bust trying to watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood in English was just unbearable.

I agree with this, I don't know why, but sometimes I get annoyed at English Dub although Code Geass dub isn't really bad.

I'll occassionally find a dub that doesn't annoy the crap out of me.

Even Miyazaki movies sound better with Japanese voices.

The seiyuus just sound like they're acting in a movie as opposed to voicing characters.

English voice actors never sound angry enough or sad enough, and their laughs are always fake.

Also, I get less distracted by the whole "lips don't synch up" thing.

Code Geass and Cowboy Bebop dub were godly.

I found the Steins;Gate dub alright, but the sub is infinitely better thanks to grorious engrish.

If it's a decent company and not 4kids, Saban or RTM 1/Star TV I will usually watch the dub.

I watched the dub instead of the sub. I missed out on the grorious Engrish, but the dub was still good. J Michael Tatum does a very good job as Okabe. Actually, everyone in that job did a good job. While it might not be superior, it was a darn good dub.

But yeah, Code Geass and Cowboy Bebop should only be done dubbed. Same goes for Black Lagoon. Revy is perfect in the dub.

I refuse to watch Death Note in Japanese, it's the only anime I watched dubbed and oddly enough, seeing it in Japanese feels un-natural. But other than that 100% Japanese w/ Subtitles.

I mean, Steins;Gate wouldn't be right without the,
"I am Mad Scientist, it so cool, sunuvabitch" line in English.

I don't like even "good" dubs. Maybe it's because I watch a lot of schoolgirl animu and that typical american schoolgirl accent grinds on my nerves.

I get where you're coming from on the schoolgirl thing. Too many times the VAs like to be overtly feminine and it's like nails on a chalkboard.

While it's technically not an anime, the English voice acting in Tales of the Abyss is great IMO. They made an anime out of the video game, but there was never an English dub of it.

I just feel that dubs are unfair for the original voice actors who did their part in imparting their characters with a 'personality'.

I feel the same way regarding dubbed movies.
