Fuck, I'm for the death penalty in very extreme cases (terrorism, treason, etc), but good lord. Criminals are still humans too, we don't need to mutilate their bodies to make a point.

They really ought to change the name. Chemical Castration does not actually involve surgical alteration of the body. They're essentially given drugs that reduce their libido/make it more difficult for them to get physically aroused.

A chemical lobotomy is still a lobotomy.

So do you oppose state-mandated medication for people with mental problems who commit crimes?

Which is still a violation of bodily sovereignty.

Can we discuss the morality of chemical castration in a separate topic? Unless your suggesting it is done to these parents, it's not really related to this, and I don't want to see Nervun's mod hat again. It's a scary thing, the wrath of the mod hat.

To an extent.
They shouldn't be forced to do it. But then again, they are crazy. Their consent is unavailable. They need to be medicated to be able to consent to anything.
So you can force crazy people to take their medicine. They are incapable of consent, so it falls to their guardian to decide.
While they are sane, they can decide to quit their meds if they like.
...
But then they become crazy, so you can force them to take them. And if they are a danger to society and others, they can be committed.

Okay? They could have been doing anything. It's simply child neglect. Nothing more. IF the couple was playing video games, do we have to ban video games because the child was unattended?

If they have allowed 2 children of theirs to die the same way, why not charge them criminally? Why use a preventative custody arrangement? Have these ever been used before?

I don't know what they are called, but a few of my parents had them implemented. Basically it means that they are so neglectful/abusive/dangerous that they pose too heavy a risk to any new children, so their newborns are taken away as they are born.

They'd probably agree that medical procedures are good. Being a doctor, you know. Who does legitimate medicine.

If the couple was playing video games and this resulted in the death of two of their children from neglect, then they should no longer be permitted to have custody of their current or future children.

I didn't see anyone suggest we ban religion.

If a couple was so entrenched in video games that they couldn't be bothered to tend to their children, I'd probably have their kids taken away.

I'm not sure why his opinion would be relevant?

Also, I don't know how things are done in the states, but here, there is no such thing as an "abortion doctor". There is no specialisation in abortion. Generally, doctors who perform abortions are specialists in reproductive medicine or OBGYNs. Seems rather difficult to make a decent income from such a narrow specialisation.

Hospitals and doctors kill people. A great percentage of the illnesses they treat were received at the hospital; they were not the presenting problem.
