Goodbye my Sweetheart, Hello Vietnam. (OOC/Sign Up)

Postby North Paju » Mon Apr 22, 2013 7:26 am

January 20th, 1968. As American and South Vietnamese men of arms celebrate the Tet Lunar New Year, across the border in North Vietnam the NVA and the Viet Cong have a dastardly surprise attack, just waiting to be launched. It will change to course of the war in Vietnam permanently, both for the US supported South, and the Communist backed North.

Welcome to hell, G.I.

Okay, so as you may of guessed, this RP will be set in the days of the Vietnam War, most notably the start of the Tet Offensive which had it's significant impact on the war entirely. We will be RP'ing as a group of American Marines caught behind enemy lines following a routine patrol gone terribly wrong. So we won't necessarily be following a routine 'go here, shoot enemy, win war' scenario. No, this RP will gradually shift toward a fight for survival in the Vietnamese jungle. So keep that in mind!

Righto, onto the rules. Firstly, and this need not an explanation is godmodding. Zero tolerance policy in effect. Don't do it. Secondly, when you post ensure that your posts meets the absolute minimum of 1 paragraph. Do not post one liners, this is on par with the policy regarding godmodding. Also, just because the minimum is one paragraph doesn't mean you should limit yourself to that.

- OP has final say in all affairs big or small. Do not cuss out the OP in retaliation to a settled affair.

- Personal attacks against other players, flamebaiting, trolling and anything in between is not allowed.

- OOC is to be used for personal discussion. Do not bring OOC into the IC channel.

- Slang, text speak or plain laziness to write is unacceptable. Please use your writing skills to the absolute maximum when posting.

Enforcement of these rules will be handled by myself, and by another player who I shall elect as a co-op when I am away. Fair warnings will be issued until the problem has been corrected or it is deemed necessary to remove the player permanently.

Please take the time to read these rules and guidelines as they are there for your benefit and your benefit only. Ignoring the rules will not help you if you get caught out, and will also be not tolerated.

So now that's out the way, here is the application - Have fun!

Application:

Nation: North Paju
Full name of your character(First and last): Gunnery Sergeant Edward 'Ed' Wallace
Appearance(Picture Preferred): Image

Personality(Traits of your character - 2 Good and 2 Bad): Good: Mature, Veteran. Bad: Short Tempered, Insomniac
Biography:(Make it formal at least - 1 PARAGRAPH.): Edward was born to a farming family in outback Dyess, Arkansas in 1932. When the Second World War came along, Ed's father answered the call and fought with valor - eventually meeting his death at the Tarawa beachhead. Because of the absence of a father figure in his early life, Edward quickly matured in his teen years, and missed out on College education because of commitments at home. The war in Indochina, which would then spill over to the Vietnam War was initially received poorly by the Wallace family, that was until 1962 when Edward volunteered for service. From that day, up until now Edward has seen the enemy, the gravel in his belly has given him enough cause to be cautious when in the jungle. Too many times he has seen young American G.I's perish at the cause of ill discipline. This stay in Vietnam will just be another tour to him.

Nation: Cylarn.
Full name of your character(First and last): Russell Lyndon Lynch.
Appearance(Picture Preferred): Russ is approximately 6'2, and a well-toned, tan-skinned Caucasian from the United States, specifically from the South. A US Marine, he has his brown hair shaved in a very short high and tight, with the sides and back of his head completely shaved. He's a toned, muscular man, weighing around 220 pounds. Due to his Southern origin, he speaks with a Southern accent.
Personality(Traits of your character - 2 Good and 2 Bad): He's a well-meaning and brave guy, but he tends to get angry on small issues and he is an alcoholic.
Biography:(Make it formal at least - 1 PARAGRAPH.): Russ grew up in a middle-class family in North Carolina, as the son of a professor at UNC Chapel Hill. During the Second World War, he was too young to serve, but his two older brothers served, with one participating in D-Day and other operations in Europe, and the other serving in the Pacific theatre of the war. When he came of age, he decided against going to college and enlisted in the US Marine Corps, branching Infantry. His first taste of combat was in Korea, where he served in various engagements against the Chinese and North Koreans. Rather than leaving the Corps after the war, he decided to stay in, becoming a Staff Sergeant by 1964, where he started his service in Vietnam as a Platoon Sergeant during the landings at Da Nang. During the Tet Offensive, he was stationed at Khe Sahn, where he fought to survive the NVA siege. Unlike other US troops, who are beginning to view the war in a negative light, he strongly believes that the US should press on, looking past the voices pleading for a US withdrawl. In his mind, the war isn't over until the NVA agrees to stay out of South Vietnam.

Personality(Traits of your character - 2 Good and 2 Bad): Great leadership qualities and a lot of combat experience. Can lose his sense of awareness, especially during heavy combat and can be ruthless, even towards civilians.

Nation: Night Archer
Full name of your character: Charlotte "Charlie" Redson
Appearance:
Charlie stands at about 5'2" and weighs 115 lbs. Her hair is raven black and trails down to her waist when it's not up in a messy pony tail. She has a slim, thin figure with some curves but they're mainly hidden by her uniform. Her eyes are a deep, rich milky brown almost chocolate color.

Personality: The good thing about Charlie is she's loyal and trustworthy. You can tell ehr anything and trust her enough to be there for you. She won't leave a friend behind, even if her own life is in danger. That leads us to the next thing about ehr taht's not necessarily good but not necessarily bad either: she tends to be self-sacrificing, often letting her body and emotions take the blow for the sake of others. Like I said, she won't leave anyone behind, even if they're her enemy. She sees everyone as equals in her own way. Now that you know about the (sort of) good things about Charlie, here's the bad things: she's hotheaded, ambitious, and doesn't like following orders(she does anyways). If she believes soemthign is wrong, she believes it with all her heart and won't change her ideals for anyone.
Biography: Charlie was born and raised in Florida along with her brothers(3 older, 1 younger). Her father was a US Marine and her mother worked as a teacher at the neighborhood day care. When her mother suddenly died after falling ill, their father sent them to live with their aunt in Virgina along the East Coast. Instead of going to college, she instead enlisted on in 1951. She quickly proved her worth, keeping up with some of the best soilders in her rank and quickly rising up to any task despite her hot temper. She got a taste of real combat when she was sent to Korea. There, during combat her leading officer was shot and she sucessfully brought him back behind ally lines without getting a single other soilder hit as well in the process. She wasn't a leader, that much was obvious, but she was talented in terms of skill and technique. Charlie was sent into Vietnam in the mid 60's due to her excellent performance.

I'm pretty sure no woman were allowed to serve in combat in the U.S military during the Vietnam War.

Full name of your character: Bob "Rat" Kiley

Appearance:

Personality: Bob is the kind of person who is more focused on getting the job done, not caring how difficult it is just that it gets done. He also does not forget what his job as a medic is, once he sprinted across a field amidst heavy amounts of rounds whizzing around him to help a soldier who had been shot in the hip and then once again midst the heavy shooting lifted the soldier over his back (not being able to give him medical assistance out in the middle of dozens of gun shots being fired at them.) and sprinted them over behind to there unit in a tree. However Rat has a breaking point and maybe driven insane later in the RP. Rat also can be driven to using tranquilizers to cope with warfare and go parinoid.

Biography: Rat was born 23 years ago in a small town in southern Idaho to potato farmers, his dad was just back from Germany and gained a liking for weapons during WW2 and Rat was raised around them and taught proper safety, usage and quickly became a good shoot, winning several local shooting competitions as a teenager. Beyond this at school Riley got great grades and thus was spared from conscription immeditally after HS and went on to get a bachelors degree in public finance at Idaho State University, he got out of college at the age of 21. Next week he immeditaly volunteered wanting to serve his country not having fully developed his Libertarian ideology and not realizing what Vietnam was really about.

Well first of all you have the personality part. You usually don't want to have that because RPers can break the personality of their character. For example, if someone decides their character is going to be a shy weakling then decides he's gonna have him talk to everyone like there's no tomorrow he's breaking the personality of his character. So really it's a huge waste of time for them to write that up. And requiring them to have two negative traits is even worse, those two traits ruin the whole RP for the RPers if they follow them, as do the positive ones.

You have to look at the RP samples, remember: Quality, not Quantity.

The activity level part is a little ridiculous. If the RPer is great it really doesn't matter how active they are.

And remember the things your looking for is if they're a quality RPer, and you're looking for details about their character.

It was in Korea where he served with distinction and learned many of his skills and techniques from other soldiers. However when on leave after the war he was involved in a scuffle with an airforce pilot, he was quickly demoted and spent the remainder of the 1950's doing basic army jobs. It was in the 60's when he was sent to Vietnam, although carrying a poor disciplinary record, his experience would prove vital in combat. He is a capable and enthusiastic medic, who is respected by everyone he knows.

No female soldiers, sorry. Could you also include a rank lower than G. Sergeant?
