I'm fine with more or less anything.
No deaths/career enders without my permission via TG though.

There have been few changes to this team since the last world cup. Rhoddri Friend has now retired from international football and his space has been filled by Evelyn Paradys, A Communadi. Both Morgana and Evelyn, in the wake of a great war in Esportiva, have defected from the Commune to play with Lhaydifee Artisans. As all human Communadi are decendant of Paradystopi in some way, shape or form. The nationality change was a relatively easy one.
The team have also opted for a more defensive approach in this tournament

OOC: For fair RP bonus attribution, most of the characters included on this roster are from the Doctor Who TV Series (and from a couple of Dr. Who books) and are either real, as in play a part in the series, or just random variations but from the species listed in Dr. Who. Some names will come from the members' list of this thread. For more background info, most of the species should be found on Wikipedia; except for Lazarus, for which you need to search for 'The Lazarus Experiment'. For the Raxacoricofallapatorians, search Slitheen. For Silurian, see 'Cold Blood' or 'The Hungry Earth' (followed by Doctor Who if necessary). For Rory, search 'The Pandorica Opens'.

Manager: Rassilon (Species: Time Lord; the first Lord President of Gallifrey, Rassilon created the Eye of Harmony, which gave the Time Lords their time travelling ability. All in all, he became the foundation of Gallifrey, although that may all be just public relations. He had discovered the secret to immortality, but was deposed by rebellious Time Lords, before going into an eternal sleep in the Tomb of Rassilon, located in the Death Zone. Late on in the Time War, he was seemingly brought back to direct the war efforts, but as he was willing to destroy the Time Vortex and thus the whole of creation [in the Whoniverse, if not all universes], to win the Time War, the Doctor time-locked him and the whole of Gallifrey.)
Assistant Manager: Adam Loftus (Normal human, aged 68; returns to the national team after a break of a few World Cups, but has basically been the behind the many managers there have been since the creation of the team back in World Cup 49 [OOC: a bit like Stuart Pearce of England].)
Coach: Sameer Ahmad (Normal human, aged 49; is the older brother of Shabeen, and also has one of the higher goal counts, but has been much eclipsed by his brother's success.)
Coach and Team blogger:Shabeen Ahmad III (Normal Human, aged 47; has scored over 200 goals for the EL national team, and is still an inspiration to everyone, nearly taking the team to the playoffs in World Cup 58, which has his first foray into full management.)

This team were all taken out of their respective time-lines by Time Scoop technology, so where some may be dead by this time, they are alive at this point in space-time. And it was the ELFA who did this, with the help of its inventor, Rassilon.

Goalkeepers:

Blon Fel-Fotch Pasameer-Day Slitheen: Species: Raxacoricofallapatorian (family: Slitheen); refer to as Blon. Was caught impersonating MI5's Margaret Blaine in 2005 (Earth time), where she and her family members were planning to instigate World War III and turn the planet into fissile material, ready to sell. With the plan destroyed by a well-timed Harpoon missile, she managed to escape, but was the only one. She then went on to become Mayor of Cardiff, using a nuclear plant and the Cardiff Rift to attempt to escape. She did, but in doing so regressed into an egg, and was delivered to the hatcheries on Raxacoricofallpatorius for a second chance at life.

The Abzorbaloff: Species: Unknown, but related to Raxacoricofallapatorians (albeit despising them); Originating from Raxacoricofallapatorius' twin planet, Clom, this particular one came to Earth and tricked a group of humans who were searching for the Doctor to join him, but eventually absorbing them all to satisfy his hunger.

Outfielders (Basically, this lot can play anywhere on the pitch apart from in goal):

Strax: He was a Commander for the Sontaran Military, but was disgraced for an unknown reason, and then was forced to become a nurse by the Doctor, to settle a debt. Has since become a member of the Doctor's Victorian London detective team.

Reaper: Species: Reaper; Flying bat-like creatures with scythe-like tails, the Reapers are extradimensional beings, who have the ability to materialise in normal spacetime when a paradox occurs, devouring everything in the area to repair the damage. They can be stopped by material barriers, the older the better, but not permanently, and a paradox on the other side of the barrier will let them through quicker.

Madame Vastra: species: Silurian; Is another of the people who the Doctor a debt, in this case, it is for saving her from a life of crime and hiding out in the early London underground, and she in turn became a veiled Victorian detective. Part of the Doctor's Victorian detective team.

Creet: species: Toclofane/Human (from the year 100 trillion and reduced to live inside metal balls); With the universe on the brink of ending, a group of humans were building a means of escape to "Utopia". With the help of the Doctor, they managed to do so, but only found darkness, and then they cannibalised themselves into this shape. This particular one was a young boy who worked in the sanctuary.

The Doctor: species: Time Lord, age: last confirmed to be 1103 (although he doesn't really know himself). Words cannot describe this man's life, but as for football, he's had "plenty" of experience, having played a match for the King's Arm Pub League Football team and scoring more than two hat-tricks in that single match (and now World Cups 59 through 62 alongside Copa Rushmoris and Cups of Harmony). Plays mainly up front.

Captain Jack Harkness: species: unknown (very humanoid though); Jack grew up on the Boeshane Peninsula as a kid and joined the Time Agency, but quit after a few years, becoming a con man with a Vortex Manipulator (basic time travel). After meeting the Doctor during the Blitz, Jack dies on Satellite 5 in the year 200,000, but is then brought back to life by the Time Vortex, effectively becoming immortal.

Rory the Plastic Centurion: species: Auton, created by the Nestene Consciousness; refer to as Rory; Dressed up in full Roman armour, Rory has had a miserable past, one that has included being killed, followed shortly after by not being born, followed by becoming a plastic duplicate with a full human consciousness. However, he is rather hardened by all this, and also has a gun in his right hand which he won't use, but will still throw himself into anything nothing less than fully committed.

Raston Warrior Robot: species: None, it is a machine; This robot has been called 'the most perfect killing machine ever devised', being able to move faster than lightning and to kill a troop of Cybermen in seconds. Its face is featureless, and its weapons are collapsible and miniaturizable, and so concealed. For the purposes of this campaign, its weapons have been remotely disarmed, but it still moves faster than normal humans can see.

Pyrovile: species Pyrovile; A humanoid being made of pure magma and volcanic rock, Pyroviles are vicious (albeit quite slow), not to mention being about 5 times the height of average humans when fully grown. Pyroviles originated from the planet Pyrovilia, but crash landed on Earth after their home was lost. They grew in the bowels of Mount Vesuvius, giving some of the locals the power of soothsaying. They planned to convert the entire human race to Pyroviles, and in turn create a new Pyrovilia. As a consequence of his magma nature, all match balls will be lined with lead to prevent them from bursting.

Jenny: species: Human/Time Lord hybrid; The Doctor was taken by the TARDIS to Messaline, where a war was raging between humans and fish-like humanoids called Hath. The Doctor then had his hand put into a progenation machine, used to produce clones for the war, and out came Jenny. She was later on killed by a commander who refused to accept the ceasefire, but then came back to life, having died in the presence of a terraforming device. She was last seen blasting off in the rocket, looking for adventure, and now she's here.

Modified Weeping Angel: species: Weeping Angel; modifications: only becomes a statue when opposition player with the ball is looking at it; No information known as of yet.

Professor Lazarus: Species: Severely mutated human (completely not humanoid at times), refer to as Lazarus; Professor Lazarus was eighty-odd years old, but invented a machine which could manipulate a person's DNA and make them younger. The first demonstration nearly catastrophically fails, but Lazarus emerges much younger. However, his DNA was since found to be unstable, and it showed when Lazarus changed into a scorpion-like creature that drained the life energy of other humans in order to keep him young.

Dalek Sec: Species: Human Dalek (Dalek that has taken on a humanoid form); After the Battle of Canary Wharf, the Cult of Skaro, now armed with the knowledge that they were the last Daleks in existence, escaped to 1930's New York, where they planned to recreate themselves in a humanoid form, by merging symbiotically with kidnapped humans deemed to be of superior intelligence. The leader of the cult, Dalek Sec, was the first to do so, merging with the businessman behind the building of the Empire State Building to form a Human Dalek. The remaining pure Daleks stopped the program upon seeing a Sec having emotions.

Silent: species: The Silence; The Silence is a religious order that believes that Silence will fall when the first question, the oldest question in the universe, is put to the Doctor, on the fields of Trenzelor, where no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer. They attempted to bring down the Doctor through an abducted part Time Lord child (no relation to the Doctor), and kill him in a still point, thus creating a fixed point. But they failed.

Captain Tybo: Species: Judoon; refer to as Tybo; Is a Juddoon captain who crashed on Earth whilst transporting the Juddoon's most wanted criminal, Androvax the Destroyer, wanted for 12 counts of planetary destruction.

Vashta Nerada swarm: species: Vashta Nerada; The are microscopic organisms, which when swarming are completely indistinguishable from shadows, and being highly carnivorous, this plays into their hands. These Vashta Nerada number about 3,000,000, but are compacted into a humanoid form, for fairness. After a Kinitar player had his leg chewed off, the vashta nerada that played in that cup have been swapped for a vegetarian and pescetarian swarm (so fish people/giant vegetables beware).

Formation: Well none really, as nobody but the Doctor has a fixed position. However, the team will usually play in a sort of 4-5-1/2-5-3 hybrid, whatever that means.

Home stadium: Lodger City Memorial Stadium (cap. 150,000)
The national stadium of Eastfield Lodge since it was built not too long ago, it was built on the ruins of the old Lodger City, the former capital of Eastfield Lodge which was completely devastated by a nuclear disaster and floods within minutes of each other. It stands as a symbol of a new life, now even more prevalent after a horrible civil war and what not. But the new city has now become the footballing capital of Eastfield Lodge after some of the biggest teams moved in after Dillvill declared independence.

Because I can't be bothered to make a factbook, information about Eastfield Lodge can be found here, although some of it will be out of date. Including the facts that Dillvill declared independence and went back to normal reality, as did half the country's empire. And the fact that we are now located somewhere in Rushmore.

Home / Away / Keeper
ImageImageImage

Coach

Martín Tejera
Once regarded as one of the very best goalkeepers in world football when he was one of many foreign stars plying their trade in Cafundéu. Former Sargossan international who cut his coaching teeth at home town club Estrella Torreón before leading Nuevo Onwere into the SuperLiga. That achievement earned him a move across the city to Sporting San Marquez, where he masterminded successive title wins. Under his tenure the Corsairs have finished third at the Cup of Harmony, second at the Copa Rushmori (twice) and reached the last sixteen of the World Cup.

Assistant Coaches

Principal coaching staff remain, providing much needed continuity. Meaning Hernán Ojeda holds on to an assistant coach slot while Israel Navarro continues to work with the goalkeepers and Javier Valentín oversees the fitness work. But Tejera’s long-time collaborator Carlos Tesero is added to the back room team, as is his former international team mate Ernesto Farías who juggles senior squad duties with his current role as Under-21 coach.

Talent

GK: 1. Ezequiel Medrán (25) – Sporting San Marquez
Picked out by Tejera, who knows a thing or two about goalkeeping, as one to watch during his tenure in charge at the Estadio Silva. Now first choice for a Sporting side that finished as Liga de Fuego runner’s up.
GK: 13. Omar Cuerdo (31) – El Nacional
Something of a late bloomer after plying much of his trade in the murky lower levels of Sargossan football. Signed to be a backup at the Independiente but when injury gave him a chance in the first team he made the position his own.
GK: 25. Silvio Romero (28) – Sportivo Cordova
Mr reliable at the back for Sportivo. He’s not showy, he’s not spectacular but everything Silvio does tends to be right.

DR: 2. Mauro Maidana (26) – Sporting San Marquez
One of the stars of Nuevo Onwere’s excellent season. A first call up to the national side coupled with a big money move across the city to Sporting are the just rewards for a fine year.
DRC: 5. Leandro Gonzàlez (29) - El Nacional
Former captain of the Under-21 side who has become an integral member of the senior squad. Became the youngest El Nacional captain in their history.
DLC: 6. Mauro Fernández (27) – Ciudad Soluca
Soluca giants Ciudad may not have had their finest season on record but one thing that did stand out was their defensive solidity. And key to that was the form of this rugged centreback.
DL: 3. Lautaro Formica (28) – Sporting San Marquez
The second son of Marquezian immigrants who couples sound defensive instincts with a wand of a left foot. Clocked up twelve goals from set pieces last season.
DRC: 12. Matías Sosa (23) – Sporting San Marquez
A free scoring centreback whose temperament has been known to get him in a spot of bother. Twelve goals and a string of dominating performances were high points of the season. Four red cards, not so much.
DC: 14. Diego Jara (31) – El Nacional
A rare thirty plus-er in the El Nacional lineup whose experience became crucial as the campaign went on. Diego rose to the occasion and helped his side to Globe Cup qualification.
DLC: 19. José Toranzo (22) – Perntav Marna TU (Earent)
Can play at both left fallback and in the centre of defence, looking equally accomplished in both positions. Recently set out for a new challenge in Earent.
DR: 21: Gonzalo Soriano (28) - El Nacional
Pacy rightback with a devil of a cross on him. Has a good understanding with club mate Gonzàlez and will continue to push hard for a starting berth.

DMC: 4. Lucas Ramís (27) – Sporting San Marquez
Key member of a Sporting side looking to re-establish themselves in the Liga de Fuego.
AMR: 7. Javier Jerez (24) – Sporting San Marquez
A diminutive winger with plenty of technique but a willowy frame that struggles to compete with the game’s more physical practitioners.
MC: 8. Rodrigo Defederico (25) – Nuevo Onwere
Currently the most highly prised transfer target of the close season and object of desire for all the nation’s big clubs. Ciudad currently look like snapping up last season’s leading assist maker but nothing has yet been signed.
AML: 11. Alejandro Echeverría (31) - Ciudad Soluca
This boy's a bit special and we're not talking in the crash helmet and crayons sense. Stick him anywhere in the attacking third and he can make something happen. Handed the captain's armband by Tejera.
AMRC: 15. Rodrigo Hoyos (27) – Sporting San Marquez
‘Hot Rod’ spends a little too much time making headlines for his off field antics for most coaches liking but you can’t argue that the boy has talent. Another key member of Sporting’s strong season.
MLC: 16. Kike Galán (26) – Sporting San Marquez
Miniature midfield dynamo whose influence in the centre often belies his diminutive stature.
AML: 18. Sebastián Canteros (24) - Perntav Marna TU (Earent)
Started life as a striker before the youth coaches at the Ciudad Deportiva decided that such crossing ability was wasted in the centre. Has joined Toranzo in Earent.
DMC: 22. Matías Escobar (23) – El Nacional
A young midfield anchor man who can run all day long. Statistically the best performing Sargossan in the Liga de Fuego last season.
AMLC: 24. Ivan Ávila (23) – Ciudad Soluca
An understudy for Sargossan international Alejandro Echeverría at the Estadio Generalissmo Joaquín Delgado who is starting to show why he’s regarded do highly at his club.

FLC: 9. Gelson Di Santo (23) – Ciudad Soluca
A real find from the Ciudad academy who is used sparring for both club and country but tends to rise to the opportunity when given it. Can play up front or wide on the left.
FC: 17. Mariano Estrada (26) – Sporting San Marquez
A familiar figure towards the top of the Liga de Fuego scoring charts. Was seen as something of an untouchable in the squad but the emergence of Ferreyra could change that.
FC: 17. Federico Ferreyra (24) – Nuevo Onwere
Another gem unearthed by the scouts in San Marquez who was his club’s top scorer as they finished in a more than creditable 13th place in the Liga de Fuego. Unlikely to be a Nuevo player for much longer.
FRC: 20. Lucas Andrada (32) - Turoki Tide (Vilita)
A talented lad plucked from SuperLiga midtable obscurity by sharp eyed V-League scouts. Now plying his trade in Turoki after spells at Kiiarana and Yeaddin Owls. Recently helped his club to victory at the 40th Globe Cup and subsequent AlfaCredit Super Cup. Which probably constitutes a good season.
FC: 23. Agustín Caruzzo (27) – Dwile Warriors (Apox)
Top scorer at the Bonilla Arena as Alianza Jucaro squeezed into the Globe Cup qualification places. Has since moved to Apox.

Style
A fluid 4-3-3 in possession, a more solid 4-5-1 without the ball. Probable starting eleven (Listed L to R)
Medrán -- Formica - Fernández - Gonzàlez - Maidana -- Galán - Ramís - Defederico -- Echeverría (C) - Estrada - Andrada

Style Modifier = (+1)

Schedule

Big matches are hosted in our rather fancy Nethertopian built 109,000 capacity Estadio Generalissimo Joaquín Delgado in the Sargossan capital of Soluca.

Mytanar National Team.

Image

Manager.
Manager - Brian McDermott - 51 - Ancharmunn
Described as, "a bald Irishman from Slough called Brian," McDermott is a relatively unknown football manager in Mytannion who has apparently had managerial experience in a place named 'England', having managed such reputable teams as Slough Town, Woking and most recently Reading - the last of three having a 44.97% win percentage. He's managing under a Charmunnry passport and is a bit of a panic appointment by the Mytanar FA, who had no manager right up until the night before they themselves announced the squad, over which McDermott has had no control. He's been given a contract for the duration of one World Cup, but with a team with so many big name players it's a bit of a question whether he'll be able to manage some of the egos in the dressing room, after being used to managing players who aren't quite as well known. Strange appointment.

Starting XI.
#1 - GK - Demy de Zooijt - 32 - East Franz Athletic (Polar Islandstates) - 85 caps
Lots of experience. Demy de Zooijt is reliable and is in the hunt for 100 caps now as he has once again made the #1 shirt his own with the national team after being pushed out of the team by Kondrat Istomin. Demy's club form in the Polar Islandstates has regained him the starting spot though as he's shown his acrobatic saves and safe hands off to the world once again. He should be a safe choice in the sticks for this World Cup qualifying campaign, though.

#2 - LB - Lev Repin - 28 - FC Ararat Severyan - 55 caps, 3 goals - Starting XI Captain
He's got top-level fitness, he's been ever present for the last eight seasons for his club side, 251 games for his club in that time since breaking into the first team. His ability to defend well and reliably, breaking up play with fair but strong challenges is combined with what he offers going forward, pinpoint crossing. His set piece ability is exceptional, he'll probably the primary set piece taker - especially free kicks. He's a very useful player to have because of this, especially with players who are good in the air in the squad. He's well liked by the whole squad and is pretty much always composed, he's been handed the captain's armband because of that.

#3 - CB - Martin Latka - 28 - FC Torshavn (Polar Islandstates) - 83 caps, 4 goals
The 6'7 behemoth is good in the air - for obvious reasons - but also maintains a good level of control with the ball at his feet, he's able to pick a pass well enough. He tackles strongly and marks well also, he does lack pace though and quick strikers could cause him a good deal of trouble if they get him caught off-guard.

#4 - CB - Narek Berozhserkovsky - 23 - Dinamo Esca - Uncapped
The biggest young defensive talent in Mytannion right now, he's strong, got pace and his tactical awareness and reading of the game during the play allow him to be almost a step ahead of the opposition at all times. He's wanted by some of the biggest teams in Mytannion because of this (Atletik Thessia, Liria Prizren), and a move would be unsurprising if he wasn't so loyal to the club where he's been brought through. His tackling is top notch and he's a fairly well-rounded defender and a possible future captain.

#5 - RB - Dennis Adkvissen - 27 - SK Aasiaat Harbour (Polar Islandstates) - 73 caps, 1 goal
Adkvissen is a good defensive full back, offering security down the right flank. Happily enough for the national team, this suits the system they intend to play for years to come - with the defence just sitting back and leaving the attacking stuff to the midfield and attack, they want defenders who are prepared to sit back and wait. Adkvissen is good at this and is a tall and strong full back, with a good turn of pace good footballing intelligence. His tackling sometimes leaves a bit to be desired as it is often messy and a bit dangerous.

#6 - CDM - Tikhon Voronin - 24 - Liria Prizren - 52 caps, 3 goals
Voronin has grown into the role as a player for both the national side and for his domestic team. He's improved his disciplinary record and gets less silly bookings. He's still as aggressive as ever and does slide in as often, but his tackling is much improved. His role is to break-up the play and move the ball on with the national team and that is exactly what he does. His passing is good and that is what is necessary in the role. He slots into the defence when there is a need for it to.

#7 - CM - Dobroslav Stojanovic - 24 - Atletik Thessia - 48 caps, 18 goals
Stojanovic is an impressive young midfielder who is really taking up the mantle of Robin Hjik. He'll be playing the Robin Hjik role of old, the box-to-box role where he breaks forward joining attacks. He's a classic goalscoring midfielder and does this fairly consistently both for his new club, his old club and now his country. He's quick, no-nonsense and has outstanding long-range shooting ability. His passing is also excellent, it is accurate and forward thinking - he is a creative and intelligent player who can start-up moves and really link the attack and the midfield. He will be slightly more defensive this World Cup, freeing up midfield partner van Huijgevoort to join attacks.

#8 - CM - Ismet van Huijgevoort - 23 - Atletik Thessia - 32 caps, 14 goals
A more attacking presence in the midfield for Mytannion, he is more forward thinking and less defensively able than the other central midfielders - but he provides the team with a different option. He will in effect become another attacking midfielder who can join attacks and help to flood the central area of the opposition's defence which will allow the Mytanar team to move the ball through quickly with short passes. He is an outstanding talent and will score plenty for the national side, as he has in the Top League. His finishing is clinical and he will team-up with Stojanovic well.

#9 - AM - Snerik Oiskha - 21 - FC Torshavn (Polar Islandstates) - 64 caps, 13 goals
Oiskha will create problems for the opposition in their final third by picking killer passes and having close control to ghost through defences. His movement will be key too, he should be able to create space where others cannot, which should give him room to work the ball, something that will be important if our long-ball tactic doesn't work. He will be the creative heartbeat of this side. He normally threads good passes through for Kaitanen and links well with v Tuhinju as the big man can head the ball down to him for him to create something. He doesn't score enough from what he creates, but that's his game, he assists in the creation of goals more than the scoring.

#10 - ST - Laze v Tuhinju - 27 - Northbrook Diamonds FK (Polar Islandstates) - 83 caps, 40 goals
A forward who is absolutely outstanding in the air, if a cross is put between the penalty spot and 6-yard box, chances are that more often than not, v Tuhinju will be on the end of it to smash it home with his cranium. He also has a surprising bit of acceleration which can help him move away from defenders, his composure in front of goal and his finishing are top class also. When he's actually dribbling with the ball he's not too much danger, but if the ball falls to him or he shoots first time he will cause a lot of problems and should score a fair few goals.

#11 - ST - Iivari Kaitanen - 21 - CAP (Valladares) - 49 caps, 25 goals
He ghosts into areas behind defenders where they don't want him and his speed to get ahead of them is scary. He is quick and uses this weapon often. He is a bit of a goal poacher, but it works so well for him. He is expert at bending his run to stay onside and often when the pass is played through is out on his own because of how quick he is. His finishing is good and he is decent in the air for someone who is only 5'9, but he is just cerebral when the ball falls to him in the box or when he uses his speed to move past defenders and then lash home a strike.

Substitutes.
#12 - GK - Kondrat Istomin - 26 - Bastion (FSSO) - 34 caps
He's reliable and he held down the national team #1 spot for a long while because of this. He's done the same for Bastion in the FSSO. He isn't the tallest goalkeeper but his reflexes save him regularly and are what make him so good, he anticipates shots well also. He's lost the starting gig purely because de Zooijt is in such good form. It's expected he'll get the starting job back when de Zooijt retires.

#13 - CB - Tomas Koudela - 24 - Atletik Thessia - 7 caps
A physical centre back who is good in the air and a tough tackler, he's playing for a top club domestically and so is used to winning - he is sometimes a bit overconfident, which makes him prone to mistakes, he's improving though and this complacency is being taken out of his game. He's similar to Martin Latka in that he lacks speed but is otherwise a good ball-playing defender and he'll probably be the eventual replacement for him.

#14 - RB - Akhmet Mironov - 25 - FC Ararat Severyan - 25 caps
Good defensively, well-rounded. Good tackling, anticipation, bravery and he's fairly decent in the air too. He got quite a few caps when he was younger, back when he was playing for Torpedo Vershina - but Dennis Adkvissen's excellent form knocked him out of the starting job. He's fighting all the way for it though and wants to get it back.

#15 - CDM - Thorvar Prijholm - 22 - FC Deska (United Gordonopia) - 14 caps, 1 goal
Prijholm is good at doing what Musa Kiril did for the national team for years, tackling and moving the ball along. He is also good at picking people out, long-range passing being a good attribute of his, he often hits long diagonal passes to quick forwards. He will try to utilise this with Iivari Kaitanen, hitting long balls to try and turn defenders around and getting them out of shape against Kaitanen. It will probably be a rotation policy between him and Voronin, so Prijholm offers similar things to Voronin but also offers some regular goals - he's decent in the air and often gets on the end of set pieces.

#16 - CM - Robin Hjik - 38 - Atletik Thessia - 166 caps, 65 goals - Team Captain
The man who seems to have been around forever and made his first ever international appearance aged just 16. Hjik is still going, although in this tournament he'll be left on the bench for a lot of the time and used sparingly to get the most out of him. He's played 459 games for Atletik Thessia down the years and has scored 187 goals and 65 goals at international level is a clue of his quality. He's the hero of millions of Mytanars and continues to compete at the highest level. He can carve open a defence with a single pass and is good defensively too, tackling strong and often before beginning to dribble at speed. His set piece ability is good also, he'll take penalties and any long-range free kicks that present themselves to him. Any time he comes on the pitch he'll be given the captain's armband.

#17 - CM - Iuliu Zaplatic - 27 - Ulsa (FSSO) - 29 caps, 3 goals
Zaplatic is of a similar mould to Stojanovic and will be substituted on as a like-for-like replacement for him if he is injured or tired, he won't be substituted on as something different. His passing is good and he gets a whole lot of assists because of it, but it his ability to be in the right place at the right time and pop up with goals that makes him so good. He's strong and pacy and reminds some of a young Niek van der Zwan - who he effectively replaced in the squad. He'll be used more than Hjik, who will probably only be brought on in dire situations, to change the game.

#18 - ST - Jakub Novotny - 26 - Tannenberg FC (Valladares) - 12 caps, 4 goals
A clinical goalscorer, he's not anything out of the ordinary in this sense, he's simply an out-and-out goalscorer who loves to get the ball in and around the opposition's penalty area and to have a go at putting it in the back of the net. He's quick and uses that to get away from defenders and is a very good dribbler, he can always find a way to go past defenders. He's not great in the air or from outside the penalty area, but inside there, he is lethal and can almost always find a way to score

Reserves.
#19 - GK - Stefan Wallinaar - 22 - Liria Prizren - Uncapped
Good form for his club side coincided with a lack of good goalkeepers coming through the ranks for the national side and Wallinaar has been picked up as the third choice. He's an extremely good goalkeeper and will be the eventual future starter. He benefits from a tough defence for his club side, but the team here is even better so that should help him massively. Top talent.

#20 - LB - Rob Fridrich - 23 - Atletik Thessia - 9 caps, 1 goal
He's a solid player who will offer a sturdy and reliable replacement. He's good going forward too, offering a more attacking option at the back if there is any transition needed. He's learned a lot this past season, especially in the defensive department, which is the most important thing for him. He's a very solid player and he will continue to grow at a club that suits him well.

#21 - CB - Miro Obad - 24 - Liria Prizren - Uncapped
A smaller, quicker defensive talent. Reminiscent of Lavrentii Aliev, he lacks height but makes up for it with positional sense and anticipation. He also adds a whole lot of aggression to his defending. He's not bad in the air either, with a good spring and a good connection when he does meet the ball - he could just be at risk of occasionally being outjumped because of his smaller stature.

#22 - CM - Artem Sharov - 20 - Dinamo Esca - Uncapped
A goalscoring midfielder, pretty simple really. He doesn't offer too much defensively but will be the eventual replacement on the bench for Robin Hjik - whenever he retires - and will probably end up starting for the national team one day if he continues to develop the way he is doing. He could be used in a more advanced position, he's got pace and good dribbling ability and an excellent eye for a shot - which he often utilises, tucking the ball away well consistently.

#23 - CM - Srdjan Pannewitz - 21 - FC Ararat Severyan - Uncapped
A more defensive option in midfield. An excellent passer of the ball and also an excellent tackler, he could slot into the Tikhon Voronin spot if need be (say if Prijholm was also injured), he'll break-up the play and move the ball on. He's also fairly good at moving late from midfield to join in on attacking moves high up the field, but he does enjoy playing the more dogged defensive side of the game, in the deeper role.

#24 - AM - Aleksandr Kulikov - 22 - FC Ararat Severyan - 15 caps, 2 goals
Aleks Kulikov is a great talent. He doesn't get involved in the nitty gritty of the game too much and instead becomes almost a third striker as he plays in an advanced position. He's a more direct attacking midfielder than Snerik Oiskha, making aggressive runs towards defenders, trying to take them on and get in position to take a shot at goal. He's one of four FC Ararat players in the squad which makes them have the second largest contingent of players from one team in the national squad - although they're likely to be overtaken by Liria Prizren in the coming years with the amount of youth talent they're producing.

#25 - ST - Kristian Haugen - 20 - Energia-Yaderny Miago - Uncapped
An all-round striking talent, better with his feet than in the air, granted, but still an excellent forward. His goalscoring ability cannot be denied, he's scored 36 goals in 64 appearances for his club side - the team he loves and has stayed with through the hardest financial times. It's doubtful he'll ever leave. He's accurate, quick and a good striker. He's strong on the ball and hard to knock off it because of his dribbling and close control. A future starter, I'm sure.

Fans.
ImageImageImage

The fans are renowned for being violent, hooliganism is a huge, huge problem in Mytannion and this continues when their fans follow the national team overseas. Fans will cause trouble and light up flares, set off fireworks and carry massive flags with them. The ultras scene is quite vibrant in Mytannion too, often the club team's fans will band together to create 2-3 impressive choreographies per qualifying campaign.

Bears Armed

‘The Bear-Belles’

National football organisation: ‘Bears Armed Association for Soccer’ (= ‘BAAS’).
(Chairbear: Morra o Barrdenn [Chairbear of Barrdenn Barbariennes S.C.])
National anthem (for sports): ‘The Banner Green And Gold’.
Official supporters' organisation: 'Arri's Furry Army'.

Yes, it still is an all-female team. As I’ve explained before, this is because the main ball-game that's traditionally been played in Bears Armed is actually a form of Rugby, but [for several reasons] the professional league for that sport is all-male and so some of the female players decided that switching to Soccer — and trying to establish a professional league for that sport for themselves instead — might be a viable alternative: They were right, because that professional league was founded shortly after WC44 and so has now been in operation for over an eightSquared of years.

All of the players are actual Ursines (i.e. anthropomorpic, bipedal Bears)], except for any whom I actually specify as being members of other ‘peoples’ instead. The Harr'aynau people are physically human (more-or-less, anyway, although inclined towards heavy builds & hairiness), but are spiritually & culturally Ursine instead.

According to Bears Armed’s timeline, the qualifiers for WC64 take place in 2089-’2090
AD, and the Cup proper in 2091AD: All figures given here for people’s ages and lengths of experience are the values applying in the first of those three years.

Manager & Chief Coach: Darrarlha o GoodSword
(female Ursine, from the Sun Clan; played with the Belles from DBC21 & WC59 through to the final of WC62, primarily as a Lynchpin although she was also capable of substituting into other Defence or Midfield positions, and was their Captain for the latter part of that career; her home team was the Sun Valley Smashers, with whom she filled a similar role and where she was also captain for a while; playing experience = 20 years; age = 40 years, managerial experience = 5 years, starting as Deputy Manager just after WC62 and promoted to her current position after WC63; ambidextrous, fur = blonde; a superlative player, and a good tactician. She wore with pride the same number “26” that her aunt Urrthra o GoodSword — who died heroically in the fighting against the ‘Dead Bears Walking’ — bore through several Cups, which has now been retired in honour of Urrthra’s memory.)

Deputy Manager-&-Coach:

Deputy Manager (Admin): Amarra Marra o Harruor
(female Ursine, from Clan Harruor Erruur; formerly a staff member at BAAS, appointed to this job just before DBC21; age = 48, fur = medium-brown).

Assistant Deputy Manager (Admin): Harreethe Sareeen
(female Ursine, from Clan GreyBear; formerly a staff member at BAAS, who was appointed to this job in preparation for the ‘qualifiers’ stage of WC63; her duties include acting as the team’s ‘routemaster’, which means handling all of their travelling arrangements; age = 31, fur = light brown).

Defensive Coach: Jhargeena o Wirrene
(female Ursine; Clan = Herrchaum, age = 54, right-pawed, fur = very light brown with some reddish hints; languages spoken = Verrene, Ursine ['HeartWoods' dialect], and English; religion = 'Wookha' ; she sometimes seems to have a sort of "sixth sense" about what's going to happen on the pitch during the next few moments; off of the pitch, she favours loose skirts and draped scarves in bright (& often contrasting) colours, with more jewellery than is typical for Ursines (i.e. her people's equivalent of a 'Gypsy chic' look…) in emulation of her [rather distant] relative Arna-Maggra; The only new addition to the team for WC56, she had actually been short-listed for DBC17 but had had to stay at home instead back then due to a family emergency; she played for Mighty Herrchaum as a Defender, and became a member of the Bear-Belles [usual position = Left Back] until & including the ‘Golden Honeycomb’ friendly before the qualifiers for WC60 began: playing experience = 23 years; appointed to this job for the WC60 qualifiers & onwards).

Attacking Coach: Harrashia o Redwood
(female Ursine; Clan = Redwood; age = 46 years, ambidextrous, fur = medium-brown with hints of russet; she is a great-great-niece of Harroya “of the Rovers” o Redwood, former captain of the Bear-Belles, but gained a place in the team on merit. (She made her international debut as a substitute in DBC 19, joining the Belles for WC57 initially as a forward; she ended her national playing career in WC62, as a ‘Utility Outfielder’ Forward /Winger/Midfielder substitute) and filled similar roles at Merlchester Rovers through most of her 27 years’ playing experience as well; appointed to this job in preparation for the ‘qualifiers’ stage of WC63.)

Doctor: Rebearrch’hra o RedRose
(female Ursine, from the RedRose ‘Free Sept’; age = 53, left-pawed, fur = medium brown with reddish highlights; hired just before DBC21.)

Physiotherapist: Erra Karrach
(female Ursine, Clan = Kettar-Surra; age = 24, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown & quite short; just hired, after WC63.)

Chaplain, ‘One Plus Seven’: Urrsulha Nightfall
(female Ursine from the Silver-of-Night; age = late-40s, left-pawed, fur = silvery; assigned to this job, by the Great Medicine Society, just before the qualifiers for WC57.)

Chaplain, Ursion: Ursiosopher Dorr-Surra
(male Ursine, from Clan Redwood; age = 39; left-pawed, fur = medium-brown with traces of chestnut; formerly a deputy chaplain at Bullford University, transferred to this post in preparation for the ‘qualifiers’ stage of WC63 after his predecessor here was appointed to a senior administrative job at the main temple in New Sarrum instead; he has a doctorate in Anthropology, and is a skilled organist who is really more interested in [Baroque] music than he is in sports.)

Security Chief: Commander Halgrimm Harrlh’s-son
(male Ursine, from Clan Thulean; age =36, left-pawed, fur = light brown; seconded from the Confederal Navy, and has considerable experience of dealing with foreigners; appointed to this job in preparation for the ‘qualifiers’ stage of WC63.)

Caterers: Famhwuie Girronty.

‘Mascot’: ‘The Wise Grorrfinn’
(male ‘TrueBear’; age = undisclosed [but considering some of his appearances in old stories apparently somewhere over 1’500, at least...], ambidextrous, fur = medium-brown) (During WC54 it was revealed that he is the maternal grandfather of Urra ‘Honey’ SunBlesséd, which presumably explains her youthful longevity.)

Roster

(Those of the players whose names have now been struck through were in the team for at least some part of the qualifying process but are not being used during the World Cup proper.)

(#1) Marranna NorthStar _ Clan = NorthStar [‘Free Sept’]; home team = NorthPort Navigators, category & usual position = Goalkeeper, experience = 22 years; age = 35 years, right-pawed, fur = very light brown, she has very quick reflexes and keen senses. (She made her international debut in DBC21.)

(#5) Sa’marra o Barrdenn _ Clan = GreenWoods; home team = Barrden Barbariennes, category & usual position = Goalkeeper, experience = 20 years; age = 35 years, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown & quite long, she is not only rather tall (7’2”) but has a deceptively long reach even in proportion to that height. (She made her international debut in the qualifiers for WC60.)

(#32) Affra o SouthWoods _ Clan = WestWoods; Home team = WestPort City, category & usual position = Goalkeeper, experience = 12 years; age = 29 years, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#2) Lueth’hree Redwood _ Clan = Redwood; home team = River City, category = Defender, usual position = Left Back, experience = 27 years; age = 37 years, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown. (She made her international debut in DBC21, and also played in Brevity Cup 2, both of which the Bears won, before the qualifiers for WC60....)

(#3) Affehhindh’hrra Savernake _ Clan = Errhabarra; Home team = Harr Burran Heroines, category = Defender or Midfielder, usual position = Right Back or Right Half, experience = 14 years; age = 30 years, right-pawed, fur = light-medium brown. (She made her international debut in ‘Brevity Cup III’, the year before WC62’s qualifiers began.)[/i

(#17) Urranna o Barrdenn _ Clan = GreenWoods; Home team = River City, category = Defender, usual position = Left Back, experience = 13 years; age = 28 years, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown & quite long. [i](She made her international debut in ‘Brevity Cup III’, the year before WC62’s qualifiers began.)

(#20) Urrsa Barroth _ Clan = SeaBear; Home team = Kerne Konquerors, category = Defender (or Midfielder), usual position = Right Back (or Right Half), experience = 9 years; age = 23 years, right-pawed, fur = light brown & quite long. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#33) Helga Hilga’s-darthhr _ Clan = Thuleann; Home team = NorthPort Raiders, category = Defender (or Midfielder), usual position = Left Back (or Left Half), experience = 9 years; age = 23 years, left-pawed, fur = cream; a terror on the pitch, but a real softy when off of it. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#4) Irdh’hrra o Errurr _ Clan = Errurr Erruur; Home team = PassPort Athletic, category = Lynchpin or Midfielder, usual position = Lynchpin, experience = 23 years; age = 38 years, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown, “average” looking but surprisingly fast. (She made her international debut in WC60.)

(#14) Urrsa BigBear _ Clan = GreenWoods; Home team = Barrden Barbariennes, category & usual position = Lynchpin, experience = 14 years; age = 28 years, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown & quite long, 7’6” tall & proportionately broad but fast on her feet anyway. (She made her international debut in WC60.)

(#33) Arranna Sa’Martan _ Clan = WestWoods; Home team = WestPort United, category & usual position = Lynchpin (but also versatile as Midfielder), experience = 11 years; age = 26 years, right-pawed, fur = dark brown’; she is a cousin of #23. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#6) Errond’hrra Thunder-Child _ Clan = Gunnar; Home team = PassPort Athletic, category = Midfielder or Winger, usual position = Right Half or Right Winger, experience = 14 years; age = 28 years, right-pawed, fur = dark brown. (She made her international debut in ‘Brevity Cup III’, the year before WC62’s qualifiers began.)

(#7) Alfreda Beorninga _ Clan = Beorning; Home team = Merlchester Rovers, category = Midfielder, usual position = Midfield Left, experience = 13 years (with 6 of those, ending just a season before she joined the Belles, across the border at Flowerwood Rangers in the Human-dominated nation of Mikitivity…); age = 30 years, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown & quite short; she’s relatively small for an Ursine (only 6’5” tall) but don’t underestimate her if you’re wise… (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#21) Fhar’graunie of the Hrrowans _ Clan = Maugh’hrurr; Home team = WestPort United, category = Midfielder (or Defender), preferred position = Midfield Left (or Left Back), experience = 10 years; age = 24, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown ‘grizzly’ & decidedly long, height = 6’11” but deceptively fast. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#23) Roberrth’ha Sa’Martan _ Clan = WestWoods; Home team = WestPort United = Midfielder, usual position = Midfield Right, experience = 10 years; age = 25, right-pawed, fur = light brown; she is a cousin of #33. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#34) Morrranna Lakesider _ Harr’aynau _ Clan = WestFarer [Free Sept]; Home team = Mighty Marchers, category = Winger, usual position = Left Winger, experience = 10 years; age = 28 years, left-footed, hair = chestnut, good eyesight even by human standards; very good at taking ‘set pieces’, and at setting-up opportunities for her colleagues to score from. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#11) Thyrra Darma’s-darthhrr _ Clan = Thulean; Home team = Ursinborkh Angels, category = Forward, usual position = Centre Forward (but has also done well as a Right Forward), experience = 24 years; age = 37, right-pawed, fur = white [‘polar’], big — her height is 7’5”, and she’s built to match — but fast & agile anyway. (She made her international debut as a reserve, who did get some playing time, in the team that won DBC21.)

(#12) Amarra Sunwatcher _ Clan = Sun; Home team = Sun Valley Smashers, category = Forward, usual position = Right Forward (‘Inside Right’), experience = 30 years; age = 41 years, right-pawed, fur = “oatmeal” colour, eyesight good even by human standards, still quite fast on her feet despite her age, very accurate in ‘set pieces’ for which she is therefore one of the favoured takers. (She made her international debut in DBC20.)

[#13] Syrrae o Wirrenne _Clan = Herrchaum; Home team = Merlchester Rovers, category = Forward, usual position = Left Forward (Inside Left) but also good as Centre Forward, experience = 26 years; age = 40, left-pawed, fur = ‘platinum-blonde’; seems to have an [almost?] psychic instinct about where the ball and other players will be next. (She made her international debut in Brevity Cup 1.)

(#24) Sarrathrie Sevens _ Clan = Clouded Sun [Free Sept]; Home team = River City, category = Forward, usual position = Centre forward (but versatile), experience = 17 years; age = 33, ambidextrous, fur = cream; is a incredibly accurate shot, partly because she has very good sight even by human standards, is very accurate agile too. (She actually made her international debut as a member of the Bears’ team for DBC22, although the roster for that squad has never been made widely known, but the qualifiers for WC61 were her first time playing for her country again since then: She’s been verry thoroughly vetted, and seems to have been innocent of any involvement in whatever conspiracy it was that over-rode own BAAS’s plans for that earlier tournament.)

(#25) Sorrkhie Torr’hay_ Tiggrahth'hrra (i.e. anthropomorphic Tiger); Clan = Tiggrahth'hrra; Home team = Heroes’ Park Heroines, category = Forward, usual position = Centre Forward, experience = 14 years; age = 28 years, ambidextrous, fur = orange & black stripes. (She made her international debut in ‘Brevity Cup III’, the year before WC62’s qualifiers began.)

(#27) Krissie Fairbearrn _ Clan = Sun; Home team = Kingly City, category = Forward/Winger, usual position = Right Forward or Right Winger, experience = 12 years; age = 26 years, right-pawed, fur = golden-brown, verry good eyesight. (She made her international debut in ‘Brevity Cup III’, the year before WC62’s qualifiers began.)

(#30) Hlunna Sarravstro _ Harr’aynau _ Clan = Ostbora; Home team = Krasny Kremmer, category = Forward/Winger, usual position = Left Forward or Left Winger, experience = 11 years; age = 27 years, left-footed, hair = ginger, strong and sturdy even by her own people’s standards (rather than by Human ones) — which is how she’s able to compete successfully with Ursines as a striker — but fast on her feet as well. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#35) Emma o RedSun _ Clan = Red Sun [Free Sept]; Home team = Sun Valley Sunbeams [‘Junior League’, category = Forward, usual position = Centre Forward or Left Forward, experience = 8 years; age = 23 years, left-pawed, fur = russet; an instinctively skilled (as well as trained) tactician. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#36) Marra ‘Borrae’ Norr-Vurra _ Clan = Redwood; Home team = Mighty Redwoods, category = Forward, usual position = Centre Forward or Right Forward, experience = 10 years; age = 27, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown, height = 7’4”. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#15) Varrna o Kerr-Surra _ Clan = WestWoods; Home team = Wiston United, category = Winger or Midfielder, usual position = Right Winger or Right Half, experience = 12 years; age = 27 years, left-pawed, fur = cream; Lowfurran Christian. (She made her international debut in ‘Brevity Cup III’, the year before WC62’s qualifiers began.)

(#16) Harrietta Karra o Hara _ Invisible Wabbit; Clan = BerryGlades (by adoption); home team = WideWindle Wanderers, category = Winger or Midfielder, usual position = Right Winger (' Outside Right') but has proven that she can play well on the left as well, experience = 25+ years; age = ???, ambidextrous, fur = light grey; she is INVISIBLE to most "mundane" people, but those should still be able to see the kit that she's wearing; less likely to resort to "ridiculous" trickery than might be the case in an all-Wabbit team, but still quite likely to do things like using her long ears to hold the ball in place on top of her head or running along on her hands whilst juggling the ball with her feet, both of which would of course make tackling her [within the rules] rather difficult. (WC59 was her international debut.)

(#30) Karralha Levin _ Clan = Gunnar; home team = Newton Arsenal, category = Winger (or [Attacking] Midfielder, or Forward), usual position = Left Winger (or Midfield Left, or Left Forward), experience = 10 years; age = 24, left-footed, fur= light brown, very nimble. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#31) Urrth’hra FarDales _ Clan = WestWoods; Home team = Wiston Wanderers, category = Winger, usual position = Right Winger, experience = 12 years; age = 28 years, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown; Wookhan. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

(#37) Erth’hrra Chirr-Sarra _ Clan = GreenWoods; Home team = Harr-Surra Hotshots, category = Winger, usual position = Left Winger, experience = 9 years; age = 23 years, left-pawed, fur = black, only 6’7” tall. (She made her international debut for the Belles in the qualifiers for WC63.)

‘First team’ = #1 or #5 (alternating, more or less), 2, 17, 4 or 14 (alternating, more or less), 6-7, 11-13, 15-16.

Style: Offensive, modifier = +4.0… ("A good offence is the best defence"...)
Their usual formation will include a front row of at least 5 (normally arranged as 3 strikers & 2 wingers), with 2 midfielders, 2 backs, and either a ‘Defensive Centre’ (whose starting position would be at the midpoint of an imaginary cross drawn between those other four non-forwards’ positions) or a third midfielder depending on the Manager’s decision before each match.

RP injuries to my players / Godmod injuries to my players / Hand out Yellow cards to my players / Hand out Red cards to my players: Y to all, at least to start with, but remember what I've written here and keep it in limits accordingly... Any serious offences by my players would probably result in injuries to your players, and causing any serious injuries to my players would probably require such obviously-deliberate attacks that your players would get yellow or even red cards as a result too. Don’t kill anybody, or inflict injuries that would be serious enough to end careers, without checking with me & getting my approval (which is unlikely to be granted…) first.
Godmod Other Events: Y, I suppose, at least as long as you do so in an AMUSING way... but please remember that Ursines are fully sapient beings, as much as Humans are, not instinct-driven animals. Oh, and of course female Ursines are not sexually interested in Humans (of either sex), and it's very unlikely that female Harr'ayanau would be either. Please don't have them run amok or outright revert to animality, without checking by TG first, don't make assumptions about their views on politics or religion, and don't do anything that would make more than one of them incapable of playing in their next game...

Kit: This incarnation of the team will normally wear the usual set of designs (from ‘ediraf’) that the Belles have favoured in the past, with the ‘Association’ badges correctly staying ‘BAAS’ rather than [the now obsolete] ‘BAMAS’. See "here" for details. However, unlike the incarnations of this team that you’ve actually seen playing before, they have a set of five stars—one for each World Cup triumph (in their own timeline, and all after WC62…) that the Belles had “already” achieved before the match from which they were brought here.
Bears Armed has traditionally used base-8 arithmetic, for several reasons, and this has affected the set of numbers used for this team’s players: The numbers “10”, “22”, and “26” have been left unassigned out of respect for wearers who went to their deaths as heroines during various conflicts.

Home grounds

1/. Wimbley Stadium:[/b] Located a few miles to the north-north-west of Council Groves (our capital city), to which it is connected by rail as well as by road, this stadium was built from scratch — on part of a former Confederal Army base’s site — shortly before the qualifiers for WC52 began as a replacement for the Bear-Belles original “home” at ‘Plumtrees Park’ which has now been demolished. Its current capacity is approximately 60'000 for Ursines: Fitting about 40’000 humans into the visiting fans' half should be possible, and so that's as many as we'll let into the country. Accommodation for visiting teams & their staffs will be provided in a new hotel, less than a mile away, which has staff who are accustomed to dealing with Humans as well as with Ursines. The various other hotels in that complex and those at Council Groves can now provide about 12’000 rooms at a time, at varying prices, although of course some of those may already have been booked by people who have nothing to do with the Cup. Accommodation (at a fairly basic level) for up to 15’000 supporters will be available, at reasonable prices, in students' residences for the National University’s campus in that city: if any more than all of those facilities put together can house want to attend a match then they’ll have to borrow space in the area’s remaining Army camp instead...
There are still no direct inter-regional flights into Council Groves, so that visitors will have to travel by way of one of our neighbours and then continue onwards by one of the limited number of "local" air-flights or by rail. (People planning to arrive by rail will still have to travel via the nation of Mikitivity, but extra services will be organised on that route...)
This site will be used for most, but not all, of the Belles' matches.

2./ ‘NorthLands National Stadium’: Located at NorthPort, the most cosmopolitan city in The Ursine Northlands, this facility was originally built for use by the 'Northbears' WC49’s qualifiers. Unfortunately the place has since seen rather less use than was originally hoped, but it is still in good condition and will hold about 43’000 Ursines or over 60’000 humans (or, of course, proportionate numbers of a mixture of those two species) because it was deliberately built to be rather larger than 'Plumtrees Park' which was then the Mainland's 'national' stadium…
This site will be used for some of the Belles’ home games, and also for some of their friendlies & matches in other Cups during this period as specified separately.
Foreigners coming to this stadium may either travel to the ‘Mainland’ and then continue hence via a set of ancient [& probably magical] ‘Gates’ that link the country’s two sections — completing their journey by either rail or riverboat after that — or take ship directly to NorthPort.

NOTES

Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate than humans on average, but this team's members were carefully selected so the gap between them & their opponents in this respect should be narrower than some people might expect. They do tend to have [slightly] poorer eyesight than humans, on the whole (although the members of both Clan Gunnar and the Sun Clan are generally an exception to this rule, and the eyesight of the latter group is actually often at [slightly] better-than-human levels instead), so long-distance passes & shots at goal will tend to be rarer behaviour for them than they are for human teams... but their typical size & strength mean that when they're running with the ball it will probably take a very brave human — as well as a very skilled one — to tackle them successfully (or, at least, one who has reasonable experience of playing against Ursines…), which should balance that factor pretty well. They don’t jump very well, but then they’re generally rather taller than most Human players to start with so they shouldn’t need to jump as often in order to intercept [relatively] high shots...
Ursines are physically robust, of course, which means that they're much less likely than humans are to suffer injuries in falls or collisions. The females of this species are more even-tempered than the males, and the team's members will try to stay on their best behaviour not only in order to do well in this contest but also to impress upon the watching humans that Ursines aren't just "dumb beasts". They will not 'dive', or feign injury in other ways, because suggesting that they could be harmed so easily goes strongly against the grain. ‘Northlanders’ are maybe not quite as "civilised" as the 'Mainlanders'… or, at any rate, that’s the traditional stereotype..
Cold weather should pose no problem to them, even if there's snow or ice on the pitch, but tropical heat might prove awkward...

Unless our hosts at the match in question object, this team's members (including the designated substitutes for the match in question) will perform a [fairly short] ritual that's called the 'harrdiharr' on the pitch just before play begins... This is a traditional war-dance, meant to over-awe opponents, that has come to be a customary prelude for team games as well (similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' 'haka'...). : )
As has now been seen during various tournaments, some of our fans like to take drums — and possibly also 'Urrs-horns' [which are similar to Alpenhorns, cow-horns, or other "musical instruments", too — along to the matches…

The team is accompanied by a number of sapient Ravens, who are there both to gather information about the rival sides and to provide air cover in case of hostile waterfowl.

The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

Armed Bears
(alias ‘The Bear-Belles’...)

For the information of those amongst you who are fairly new to NS Sports: Yes, this is a team — and nation — consisting primarily of anthropomorphic Bears.
For the information of those amongst you who have already been around NS Sports for a while: Yes, this nation does have the same player as Bears Armed… but IC, instead of this nation being a ‘puppet’ of that other country, they are actually ‘alternative reality’ counterparts of each other and didn’t even know of each other’s existence before this tournament.
The current year in Armed Bears converts into the Gregorian calendar as 2037
AD, even though for footballers from Bears Armed (whose own international debut, BoF31, was in 2008AD…), it is now 2089AD or thereabouts instead!

This is another all-female team, for the same reason that Bears Armed’s team falls into that category: The main ball-game that's traditionally been played in their homeland so far is actually a form of Rugby, but [for several reasons] the professional league for that sport is all-male and so a few years ago (in 2006
AD, actually) some of the female players decided that switching to Soccer instead -- and trying to establish a professional league for that -- might be a viable alternative.

The ages & lengths of experience given here are accurate for the first half of the qualifiers, but you'll need to add 1 year for them during second half of qualifiers and another 1 year for them during either World Cup (if they get there) or Cup of Harmony if you want the correct values then.

Almost all of the players are actual Ursines (i.e. anthropomorpic, bipedal Bears), except in any cases where I actually specify otherwise. The Harr'aynau people are physically human (more-or-less, although inclined towards heavy builds & hairyness) but spiritually & culturally Ursine instead.

Manager: Harrya o Herrchaum
(Ursine female from Clan Herrchaum; transferred to management/coaching team two years ago, after the team failed to qualify for WC60 & didn't receive its Cup of Harmony invitation in time to reply successfully; before then was a player, in this team and for the ''Mighty Redwoods'; category = Striker, preferred position = Right Forward, Soccer experience = 20 years as player & 14 in management; promoted to manager as well before the qualifiers for WC62; age = 56, left-pawed, fur = light brown.)

Chief Coach: Ug-Ug.
(Yes, hrreally that Ug-Ug, from The Holy Empire, he who “knows not how to lose“… What more needs to be said?)

Goalkeeping Coach: Urrth’hra o Porrwath
(female Ursine; Clan = Eastern League; she played as a goalkeeper for the Belles WC58-62, ending as their usual ‘starter’ in that role, whilst her home team was Mirron Marvels, category & usual position = Goalkeeper; she had 24 years of playing experience before retiring from the field to take up this coaching position in the run-up to WC63’s ‘qualifiers’ stage; age = 45, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown.)

Defending Coach: Harroya 'Silver' Gray
(female Ursine; Clan = Eastern Hills [Ally]; she played as a Defender or Midfielder for the Belles WC58-62, usually as a member of their ‘starting’ line-up and sometimes even as Lynchpin & acting Captain; her home team was ‘Dynamo OstPort’, for home she performed similar duties, and she had years of playing experience before retiring from the field to take up this coaching position in the run-up to WC63’s ‘qualifiers’ stage; age = 45, left-pawed, fur = light greyish-brown.)

Attacking Coach: Harroya ‘of the Rovers’ o Redwood
(female Ursine; Clan = Redwood; she played for the belles (primarily as Right Forward, and usually as a starter) in WC58-62, and for her home team of Merlchester Rovers from a few years before that, until retiring from the field to take up this coaching position in the run-up to WC63’s ‘qualifiers’ stage, with 27 years of playing experience; age = 46, left-pawed, fur = light brown; she would NOT break the rules (not even at the 'yellow card' level; never even carded once, in either national or international play) but managed to be a very successful “attacking” player without being an overly “aggressive” one... and was noted as being very good at setting up opportunities for her team-mates, but only seeming to score herself when the team really NEEDED that goal.

Roster

(#1) Bella DeBruin _ Clan = WestWoods, home team = 'Arrlesian Aces’, category & usual position = Goalkeeper, Soccer experience = 21 years; age = 35, left-pawed, fur = dark brown. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#14) Marra o Redwood _ Clan = Royal Redwood, home team = ‘Mighty Redwoods’, experience = 19 years; age = 33, left-pawed, medium-brown fur; she has a verry good record at the ‘League’ level. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#27)

(#2) Urradorra o Barrdenn _ Clan = GreenWoods, home team = Barrdenn Barbariennes, category = Defender, usual position = Left Back, experience = 16 years; age = 33, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown & moderately long.

(#3) Marraya RedRose _ Clan = Royal Redwood, home team = 'Mighty Redwoods’, category = Defender, preferred position = Right Back, 21 years experience of Soccer; age = 32, left-pawed, fur = medium brown with reddish tint; relatively small, but strong and quite fast. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#15)

(#16)

(#4) Sunnarra o Redwood _ Clan = Redwood, home team = 'Heroes' Park Harlequins, category = Defender/Midfielder, usual position = Lynchpin, experience = 17 years; age = 33, right-pawed, fur = light brown; quite fast; has a degree in Military Science. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#17) Marranna ThunderBolt _ Clan = Gunnar; home team = Arrh’Fhwerrn United, category = Midfielder or Defender, usual position = Lynchpin, experience = 13 years; age = 28, ambidextrous, fur = medium-brown; rather average in appearance, but way above average in talent. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

[#30]

(#5) Karra Thunder _ Clan = Gunnar, home team = PassPort Athletic, category = Midfielder or Defender, preferred position = Midfield Left, Soccer experience = 27 years; age = 42, left-pawed, fur = dark brown. (She has been with the Belles since the team’s international debut in WC58.)

(#6) Arranna o Errha _ Clan = Irrumbarra; home team = Harr Fherredh Rangers, category = Midfielder or Winger, usual position = Midfield Right, experience = 14 years; age = 28, left-pawed, fur = light-medium brown. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#20) Jiehra WestWalker _ Harr’aynau _ Clan = MiddleBear, home team = ‘Free City Furies’, category = Midfielder or Winger, usual position = Midfield Left (but flexible about this), experience = 13 years; humanoid, age = 28, dark red hair, left-footed; identical twin of #21, with whom she shares a rapport that makes them especially effective when working together. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#21) Irrala WestWalker _ Harr’aynau _ Clan = MiddleBear, home team = ‘Free City Furies’, category = Midfielder or Winger, usual position = Midfield Left (but flexible about this), experience = 13 years; humanoid, age = 28, dark red hair, left-footed; identical twin of #21, with whom she shares a rapport that makes them especially effective when working together. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#7) Irrona LightChild _ Clan = Sun; home team = Harr Burran Heroines, category = Forward, usual position = Left Forward, experience = 16 years; age = 32, right-pawed, fur = blonde, very keen eyesight. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#10) Urra ‘Honey’ SunBlessed _ Clan = Sun, home team = ‘Sun Valley Smashers’, category = Forward or Midfielder, usual position = Centre Forward, Soccer experience = 29 years; age = 45 (but looks & acts rather younger), right-pawed, fur = honey-brown, very good eyesight even by human (rather than Ursine) standards. She is a very accurate kicker, and therefore the usual first choice for taking free kicks & penalties; her nickname comes from her fur-colour, her very sweet nature, and (it must be admitted) the fact that she's sometimes been a bit “thick” in the past…although she seems to be becoming smarter by now (She has been with the Belles since the team’s international debut in WC58.)

(#11) Jerrannya OldWood _ Clan = Old Redwood, home team = Mighty Redwoods, category = Forward, usual position = Right Forward, experience = 18years; age = 29, right-pawed, fur = greyish-brown, has good eyesight. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#22) Beorra-Irrth’hrra Torren _ Clan =GreenWoods, home team = Barrdenn Barbariennes, category = Forward, usual position = Left Forward (but flexible about this), experience = 12 years; age = 32, left-pawed, fur = light brown. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#23) Marrya o Urrseorn _ Clan = Urrset; home team = Harr Morttan Challengers, category = Forward, usual position = Centre Forward, experience = 15 years; age = 32, left-pawed, fur = reddish-brown. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#24)

(#31)

(#12) Jerranaya SunChild _ Clan = Sun, home team = 'Sun Valley Smashers, category = Winger or Forward, usual position = Left Winger or Left Forward, experience = 13 years; age = 24, right-pawed, fur = golden-brown, has very good eyesight, big for her age and very fast, "a natural talent". (She made her international debut in WC62.)

[#13] Roh’hsarra EastWalker _ Harr’aynau _ Clan = Harr’aynau, home team = ‘Harr Harrh-eh Hurricanes’, category = Winger or Forward, usual position = Right Winger or Right Forward, experience = 14 years; humanoid, age =30, ginger hair, right-footed. (She made her international debut in WC62.)

(#25)

(#26)

(Details of remaining substitutes/reserves [hopefully] to follow soon.)

Usual Starters = #1-7, 10-13.
Usual Substitutes = #14, 15, 17, 20-21, 23-24.

Style
+3.5… “A good offence is the best defence”.

Their usual formation will include a front row of at least 5 (normally as 3 strikers & 2 wingers), plus either 3 midfield & 2 backs or 2 midfield & 3 backs, plus of course the goalkeeper.

RP Permisions

Opponents may _

Choose my goalscorers: Y (but when I post the roster I'll suggest the most likely candidates for this)
Godmod Scoring Events: Y

RP injuries to my players / Godmod injuries to my players / Hand out Yellow cards to my players / Hand out Red cards to my players: Y to all, at least to start with, but remember what I've written here and keep it in limits accordingly... Any serious offences by my players would probably result in injuries to your players, and causing any serious injuries to my players would probably require such obviously-deliberate attacks that your players would get yellow or even red cards as a result too.

Godmod Other Events: Y, I suppose... but please remember that Ursines are fully sapient beings, as much as Humans are (well, almost so, anyway....), NOT instinct-driven animals. Oh, and of course female Ursines are NOT sexually interested in Humans (of either sex), and it's very unlikely that female Harr'ayanau would be either.

Kits
Home = bright yellow, with the bear's-paw emblem (as on the national flag) in bright green on both front & back of the shirt.
Away = bright green, with the bear's-paw emblem (as on the national flag) in bright yellow on both front & back of the shirt.
Goalkeepers = shirt “quartered” (both front & back) in yellow & green, with bears-paw emblem in maroon. Shorts yellow on left & green on right, socks vice versa.
(Identifying numbers & players’ names will be in black if on yellow, or in white if on green: Armed Bears has traditionally used base-8 arithmetic, for several reasons, so the sequence used here will be _ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, etc...)

___________________________________________________________

Home Ground

All of the team’s ‘home’ games during this Cup’s qualifying stages will be played in the Royal Arena at Urrath-am-Barrah, the nation’s capital city, which can seat approximately 60’000 people. Up to 10’000 places will be available for visitors.
The easiest means of access to this nation will be by means of an ancient (and probably magical) set of “Gates”, whose keepers can open them to locations in the other countries concerned if those other nations are willing to accept this: Otherwise, it will require a sea-voyage to one of our neighbours and then a quite lengthy journey overland by rail or road…

_______________________________________________________________________________

Notes
Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate than humans on average, but this team's members were carefully selected so the gap between them & their opponents in this respect should be narrower than some people might expect. They do tend to have slightly poorer eyesight than humans, on the whole, so that long-distance passes & shots at goal will be rarer behaviour for them than they are for human teams... but their size & strength mean that when they're running with the ball it will probably take a very brave human -- as well as a very skilled one -- to tackle them successfully, which should balance that factor pretty well.
They're physically robust, of course, which means that they're less likely than humans to suffer injuries in falls or collisions but also that the form of Rugby in which most of them played before switching to Soccer was even more physical than the humans' versions of that game... and unfortunately some of them might forget the change of rules, in the excitement of the match, and use those tactics here... The females of this species are more even-tempered than the males, and the team's members will try to stay on their best behaviour during this contest. They will not 'dive', or feign injury in other ways, because suggesting that they could be harmed so easily goes strongly against the grain.

If the organisers permit then the team's members, including subsititutes, will do a [short] traditional war-dance (similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' 'haka'...), on the pitch, just before each match begins: This is called the 'Harrdiharr'... ;-)

Powersith National Football Team

Powersith returns to its 2nd World Cup. After showing a strong, proud performance, the squad was unable to qualify for the World Cup Proper. Can their 2nd shot be their luckiest? Everyone from World Cup 63 remains, and so experience is all around. Lets hope Powersith qualifies.

Style: -2

Manager: Bridget Scroves

Goalkeepers:
1. Joshua Farthing (Sporting Esper) (m)
13. Emily Winters-Neumann (Twineur Bugs) (f)
23. Bruce Millar (Excelsior Slogda) (m)

Defenders:
2. Dima Novak (Excelsior Slogda) (m)
3. Jerzy McFetridge (Keppal Cosmos) (m)
4. Brett Chrowder (Canbix Muses) (m) (captain)
5. Penny Consky-Bock (102d Jr.s) (f)
15. Marlene Jamieson (Keppal Cosmos (f)
19. Luanne Delvale (Arlington City) (f)
21. Vipin Lamin (Namiri Forest) (m)
22. Sara Hale-Barnard (Canbix Muses) (f)

Midfielders:
6. Patricia Eliot (Canbix Muses) (f)
7. Antje Kurzmann-Tremme (Eintracht Trink) (f)
8. Sally Ici-Holder (102d Jr.s) (f)
10. Kerry Tammany (Bassabook Old Boys) (m)
11. Ted Silla-Raty (Twineur Bugs) (m)
12. Xolani McKiegna (102d Jr.s) (m)
14. Martina Ruan (FTC United) (f)
16. Joan Gerland (Spenson Suburbia) (f)
17. Davi Keane-Liuprand (Ephesian FC) (m)
18. Shula Bachchan-Laum (Namiri Independent) (f)

Forwards:
9. Yuuki Nakano (Eintracht Trink) (m)
20. Loris Muraro-Ughi (Bassabook Old Boys) (m)

The normal starters are 1-11, though this will likely change. The most likely starting formation would be:
..................__________.................
..................|Farthing|...................
McFetridge..Chrowder..Novak..Consky-Bock
.................Eliot....Silla-Raty..............
.............Kurzmann-Tremme.................
.............Tammany....Ici-Holder.............
....................Nakano........................

The reserve defenders would tend to line up (right to left as they see it, or left to right in this diagram) as Lamin, Jamieson, Delvale, Hale-Barnard if they're all playing at once. The midfielders would have Bachchan-Laum and Gerland in defensive midfield, Keane-Lipurand in the center, and Ruan and McKiegna as attacking midfielders. Expect plenty of variation, particularly up front--we wouldn't want to risk inflating the lone striker's goal tallies, though then again we're not expecting to have much in the way of goal tallies, period. Zwangzug play a defensive style, as noted, and while they'll obviously be weak overall they're particularly unskilled on headers. Some backups might chance a professional foul, but they're really not a violent team.

More than you ever wanted to know about Zwangzug can be found in our factbook, a pastiche of in-jokes, allusions, moments of pride, retconned "what was I thinking?!" moments, and much more from the last, er, six-plus years. Unless you wanted to know things like "why are there so many -ed names" (egalitarian parents, not being posh) or "what about the Mc" (it's a common morpheme among our Bigtopian community, who knows why). Well, if you have more questions, you can ask.

In particular, a summary of the original national team's history (fl. WC33-42) is available. I should really get to wikifying biographical pages for some of the more colorful bygone players. Poke me about that.

Colors: White with black stripes. Or black with white stripes. We go for the basics.

Home games: to be played at a refurbished Wayr Stadium (in the Rackham Range of mountains), though later campaigns may see some games moved elsewhere.

If RPing first, please feel free to name goalscorers, injure, and distribute cards to my players at will! You can also godmod events, though I'd appreciate advance warning if you want to take narrative liberties that I couldn't just as easily do to your team (due to being, e.g., an MT, all-human country). Put another way, metaphorical "godmodding" is welcome if clever, but I'd avoid the literal sense.

If you'd like to collaborate on a storyline, drop me a telegram! Always up for new ideas.

Cameras pan to three men sitting on an oval desk with. On the right is the Soccer Analysis Joe Brown. In the middle is a young dashing Soccer Informat Chad Dylan and on the Right is Ex-Coach of Chymala FC Steve White.

Mr. White:Hello and welcome to Gol! Perinpanland! The soccer program as part of the Perinpan Sports Network. We'd like to start off the show with an important message by Head Coach Enrico Martini during the exibition match against Cassadaigua's intersquad team. It seems the Peirnpanland will use its same formation its been successful with and if necessary they'll use a 4-2-3-1 formation. As of now the Perinpan team record is 14-4-14. (W/D/L) Sports Analysts are waiting to see Perinpanland break the tied record with 15 wins. Here is what the Perinpan team had to say at the press conference sponsored by Dollys.

Martini ...we have intiated a hardcore training procedure to bring our players up to par. Our opponents are difficult players and we are ready to face them. We continue to perfect our tactics to score the most amount of goals. At the last world cup, there were certain political issues that halted our practices and games. We couldn't play to the best of our abilities. So now, we are initiating our defence practices as you can see, honing our skills and getting ready to play our best out there. We will remind them that we came third in the Baptism of Fire 48 and since then we haven't played to our fullest. We are ready to show the world what the Perinpan National Team has in store and we hope the world could take on our team and the Perinpan love for Soccer!!!!!

Head Coach: Ematea Saenu [/color][/size]
An on-again/off-again relationship between the Gibbons family and the Turori National Team continues for World Cup 63 as Abraham, Jake and Aaron Gibbons join the National Team setup under the guidance of their father Mikael. The Gibbons family was kicked out of Darmen after a vote-buying scandal at Eau Claire Aris Football Club. However, Gibbon's role as Head Coach has been reduced to that as Training Coach, allowing him more time to focus on the development of his son's to the Turorian system, as well as to protect against Gibbons' death in a parallel Wyvern universe to catch up with the former Darmeni manager and end his term in this universe. Turori's Ematea Saenu took over the duties of Head Coach at the World Cup 63 Finals.

The coaches will select the squad from the National Player pool. Players are listed below, grouped by position and sorted by projection 'Depth Chart' position where the top player listed is most likely to be named the first player selected for that position, and so on. Depth chart positions are determined by performance in pre-cup training sessions, as well as performance and average ratings in the Vilitan League competition and previous appearances for the National Team.

GOALKEEPERS:

[ 86 ] Hooizo Nuakoi [ - Turoki Tide (Vilita) - ]
------- GK ( AGE: 28 CAPS: 16 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Nuakoi, a dual Vilitan & Turorian national, entered World Cup 58 qualifying uncapped and undeclared for either Nation. Nuakoi was widely expected to openly declare Turorian Nationality going into the qualifying, but with the rise of rival Ronji Miiastara, Nuakoi decided to leave the door open to a Vilitan return should he remain uncapped for Turori. After spending Season 26 and 27 at Turoki Isle, Nuakoi made the move to the Yeaddin Owls midway through Season 27 to become their #1 keeper. Nuakoi returned to Turoki during Season 29, joining the Turoki Tide as they finished runners up in the Stellar Division. Nuakoi was important in the Tide's success in the Tropical Trophy, the clubs first major Top-Level silverware, before rising to prominence in the lore's of the opening of a new chapter of Sporting Success in Turoki. Nuakoi led the Tide to the Stellar Division championship during Seasons 32 and 33 before a remarkable run to defeat rivals Strike FC in the 40th Globe Cup Final for Turoki's first International club competition title. Nuakoi's performances in goal were critical as a 0-0 shutout performance in the final match gave the Tide a remarkable victory in the UICA Super Cup, the first Vilitan League side to lift the trophy. Nuakoi

[ 1 ] Ronji Miiastara [ - - Unattached - - ]
------- GK ( AGE: 28 CAPS: 61 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Miiastara joined Marine Coast United in Vilita for their V-League 27 campaign in the Declasse, just the second ever for the club at that level. Miiastara was tasked with keeping the ball out of the net, and he did just that, helping lead Marine Coast United back to the Stellar Division at the first attempt leading up to V-League 28. After competing in the UICA 'B' Champions League, Marine Coast finished a respectable 7th place in the V-League but just missed out on a UICA place. Miiastara jumped ship to Kiiarana City in order to participate in the UICA Globe Cup prior to Season 29. While Kiiarana did not make the huge title push expected of them, Miiastara let in a career low 14 goals during Season 30, leading Kiiarana to a runner up finish in the Stellar Division a place in the UICA Champions League and a Tropical Trophy victory. It would be the lone high point at the club for Miiastara, however. After losing his 'ever present' status as National Team goalkeeper to the domestically succesful Hooizo Nuakoi, Miiastara made the switch to Colonial for Season 35 and immediately added a second Tropical Trophy victory to his resume

[ 82 ] Mumau Atla-Siioai [ - Turoki United (Vilita) - ]
------- GK ( AGE: 29 CAPS: 5 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
A Dual Vilita & Turori National, Atla-Siioai was invited to the Vilitan World Cup 57 Training camp - but so were 6 other goalkeepers. Atla-Siioai transferred from the Kionao Locals to Vilitan side Turoki United for the V-League 27 season. While his play for Turoki was solid, the impact of Atla-Siioai's presence was most evident back in Turori as the Locals were relegated from the V-League with a club record 20 defeats. While showing the importance of having Atla-Siioai in the squad, the fact that the Goalkeeper left the Locals high and dry has not left a good impression on their Turorian fanbase. Atla-Siioai has, however, made a name for himself in Turoki, repeatedly being named Supporters Player of the Season and leading the team into UICA Competition places including the clubs first UICA Champions Cup appearance following Season 36. Atla-Siioai has been the Player of the Year at Turoki United every season since joining the club.

DEFENDERS:

[ 12 ] Diauro Dlaminii [ - Turoki Tide (Vilita) - ]
------- D LC ( AGE: 29 CAPS: 61 :: GOALS::SR: 1 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Dlaminii started his career at Vilitan lower league side Alona Sissil where he impressed greatly, warranting interest from all the top named V-League sides. Dlaminii eventually decided to head home to Turori, signing with Cednia Beach AFC where he competed in all of the clubs V-League 27 matches.

[ 3 ] Lioniaa Tana [ - Turoki Tide (Vilita) - ]
------- D/DM LC ( AGE: 29 CAPS: 75 :: GOALS::SR: 5 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Tana is one of the most athetlically skilled defensive players in the Turorian arsenal, although Tana's weakness shines in technical areas like heading and man to man marking. After starting their career at Vilitan side Rammsissil, Tana moved to Eastal Lunar FC during V-League 27, winning the Vilitan Cup with the team during Season 28 but relegation triggered a clause allowing Tana to return home to Turori with Cednia Beach AFC for Season 29. After a miserable campaign which saw Tana without Champions Cup competition, Tana joined the Turoki Tide for Season 34, doing so in time for their 43rd UICA Cycle run. The Tide lifted the UICA Globe Cup and UICA Super Cup, one of three Turorian players on the roster for the Tide's Triumph. Tana was named Turorian player of the Season for Season 35 and 36.

[ 2 ] Yoains Konoaafeo [ - Cednia Beach AFC - ]
------- D RLC ( AGE: 30 CAPS: 74 :: GOALS::SR: 6 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Konoaafeo was the top defensive product of the Yeaddin Academy and was expected to be part of the Vilitan national team set up due to this fact. However, after not being capped during World Cup 57 Qualifying, and learning of Turori's intention to enter World Cup 58, Konoaafeo switched allegiances both for club and country. After playing half of V-League 26 with the Kionao Locals, Konoaafeo moved to Cednia Beach AFC where he would lead the Coconut Kickers to their second V-League championship, being named Turorian player of the season in the process.

[ 5 ] Noa-isinao Wioauoi [ - Arcticala Inlet (Vilita) - ]
------- D RLC ( AGE: 27 CAPS: 15 :: GOALS::SR: 1 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Noa-isinao Wioauoi ws a product of the Yeaddin Academy who caught the eye of one Yeaddin reporter at a training session doing ball handling tricks, and the shared video went viral, sparking a campaign including a fan website and even local town council requests to invite the youngster into the Vilita National Team training camp for World Cup 57. Wioauoi was invited to the camp, but never impressed coaches Massa and Wrice enough to be capped during the process. Wioauoi, born in Turori despite leaving in Vilita, accepted an invitation from the Football Association of Turori to train with them in preparation for a playing role in the World Cup 58 Qualifiers. Wioauoi has spent most of his career at Arcticala Inlet, though did make a brief stop in Turoki to play a season and a half with the Tide.

[ 4 ] Balariita Muzmaara [ - Morata Valley (Vilita) - ]
------- D LC ( AGE: 25 CAPS: 16 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Muzmaara, one of the youngest players ever invited to a Turorian National Team training camp (Ignoring the Cocoboas), joining the Terrarokka Spirit during Season 27. After spending seasons bouncing between the League and Amateur levels, Muzmaara finally moved to play full time for the Kionao Locals, spending two seasons at home in Turori

[ 61 ] Moia Fliporta [ - Kiiarana City (Vilita) - ]
------- D/DM L ( AGE: 28 CAPS: 5 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Fliporta started their career at Laiotia Locals in the Non-League system of Vilita. Known for aerobic ability such as speed, acceleration and the ability to jump higher than most anyone on the pitch, Fliporta is otherwise not particularly great at the technical aspects of the game. After holding out to remain the star at non-league Laiotia City, Fliporta finally 'sold out' and moved to the Stellar Division to play for Kiiarana City.

DEFENSIVE MID:

[ 22 ] Restiaa Mumamba [ - Yeaddin Owls (Vilita) - ]
------- ATH ( AGE: 27 CAPS: 73 :: GOALS::SR: 3 )
Mumamba was the definition of a versatile player for Vilita's Yeaddin Owls after joining them for the V-League 27 season from Jlinal Cove FC. Mumamba played in every position from Central Defender to Striker, scoring a game winning goal in one game and a game saving tackle in the next. Mumamba is an expert choice for a third sub or to allow tactical changes on the pitch without substitutions being made. The strong and versatile performances of Mumamba during Season 28 earned Mumamba a high profile transfer to defending Stellar Division champions Arcticala Inlet but he left the Electricians the following season to be apart of the growing Yeaddin Owls squad. Mumamba spent 4 seasons in Yeaddin without recording any meaningful domestic awards other than the Season 29 Turorian Player of the Season award. The lure of international competition was too great for Mumamba who joined the Turoki Tide for Season 34, doing so in time for their 43rd UICA Cycle run. Mumamba helpd the Tide lift the UICA Globe Cup and UICA Super Cup, one of three Turorian players on the roster for the Tide's Triumph. However, after achieving glory with the Tide, Mumamba returned to his former club Yeaddin, vowing to one day bring the same success back to the Lirai Asku Castle.

[ 22 ] Klaillal Tuirma [ - Colonial Sile (Vilita) - ]
------- ATH ( AGE: 19 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 )
Descendant of Season 4 Turorian Player of the Season and National team legend Cuolia Tuirma, Klaillal will work with Restiaa Mumamba to become the future "All-Around" player for the Turori National Team. Playing in a unique role, Tuirma will be expected to fill the role of being able to play every game, in every position - even Goalkeeper, if there are no subs left. Tuirma will certainly be starting as a substitute during their debut campaign in World Cup 62 but may get the chance to start against weaker opposition. After being brought up through the academy system at Kionao, Tuirma signed a professional contract with Colonial Sile in Vilita for Season 35, winning silverware in the first match, the Tropical Trophy triumph over Strike.

MIDFIELDERS:

[ 17 ] Cediici Tzatzos [ - Makosile (Vilita) - ]
------- M R ( AGE: 31 CAPS: 75 :: GOALS::SR: 5 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
A determined winger, Tzatzos is a product of the Strike Academy and remained a bit-part player for the club when the Vilitan League resumed for Season 26. Tzatsos was part of Strike's Stellar Division winning Season 27 side while being named Turorian Player of the Season, but when the success did not repeat itself during Season 28, Tzatzos was transfered to Kiiarana City. Looking to take a step back, Tzatzos moved across town to Kiiara-Torra in the Declasse division and helped to orchestrate a masterful promotion during season 33. Tzatzos would not stick around, however, looking to make the quick jump to the upper half of the table, signing for Makosile United.

[ 6 ] Raso Tareak [ - Turoki Tide (Vilita) - ]
------- M C ( AGE: 29 CAPS: 69 :: GOALS::SR: 8 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Tareak joined Jlinal Cove FC in Vilita for V-League 26 helping the club to a respectable 8th place finish. In V-League 27, Tareak's peformances improved with a pair of goals helping Jlinal to an all-time best finish of 4th place in the standings. Tareak's impressive performances in Jlinal earned him a transfer, first to Turorian UICA Champions League representatives Cednia Beach AFC, then to the Yeaddin Owls for V-League 30 before moving to Jungle Strike FC

[ 13 ] Vrotaoa Lorasoiba [ - Arcticala Inlet (Vilita) - ]
------- M C ( AGE: 29 CAPS: 75 :: GOALS::SR: 7 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Lorasoiba's impressive performances for Turoki United, including 5 goals during the V-League 26 season, earned a high-value transfer to top Vilitan side Arcticala Inlet AFC. While it took Lorasoiba some time to get settled into life on the big Island, Lorasoiba's performances were enough to get an invitation to the Turori National Training camp for World Cup 58. Lorasoiba would impress on an international level, becoming one of the most important players in the Eels lineup, and also returned home domestically to help in the rise of Mliona-Lpaka as a domestic and international threat.

[ 7 ] Rikko Rawaii [ - Arcticala Inlet (Vilita) - ]
------- AM C ( AGE: 28 CAPS: 75 :: GOALS::SR: 16 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Rawaii's dribbling ability coupled with lightning pace make him a threat any time he touches the ball, to create something even from nothing with a few quick moves. Rawaii is not known so much as a goalscorer, instead, an opportunity creator. Rawaii was named Player of the Year at Arcticala Inlet during Season 26 and was named Turorian player of the year during Season 27 when Inlet won the Tropical Trophy. Rawaii would win the Stellar Division with Arcticala Inlet during Season 29 finishing second in the goalscoring race.

[ 38 ] Tiika Diirotora [ - Kiiarana (Vilita) - ]
------- M RC ( AGE: 29 CAPS: 32 :: GOALS::SR: 3 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Diirotora is a dedicated and well travelled midfielder who made a name for themselves while leading Kiiarana City to the Vilitan Cup Final in V-League 27. After starting their career in the Liguon Valley, Diirotora made the leap to the Stellar Division for Season 27 and the move payed off with 4 goals and a post season transfer back home to Turori with mega-club Cednia Beach AFC. Diirotora spent a season at Makosile before joining Strike for Season 30.

[ 16 ] Rutaj Ranaso [ - Turoki Tide (Vilita) - ]
------- M LC ( AGE: 28 CAPS: 30 :: GOALS::SR: 2 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Ranaso moved from Turori to the nearby island of Turoki to play for Mavaloiao FC in the Vilitan Declasse when the league resumed for Season 26. After 2 strong seasons at the Declasse side, Ranaso joined Stellar Division side Eastal Lunar for V-League Season 28 and helped them win the Vilitan Cup despite relegation from the Stellar Division. Ranaso wouldn't stick around in the lower leagues, however, spending two seasons in Turori before moving to the Turoki Tide where he would win a UICA Champions Cup title.

[ 70 ] Aaron Gibbons [ - Kionao Locals - ]
------- M C ( AGE: 32 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]

[ 12 ] Jake Gibbons [ - Kionao Locals - ]
------- M RC ( AGE: 30 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]

FORWARDS:

[ 8 ] Liinai Zakazaka [ - Makosile (Vilita) - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 28 CAPS: 75 :: GOALS::SR: 31 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Zakazaka joined Jlinal Cove FC for the V-League 27 season and gained some attention back in Turori for their contribution to the 'Cove's impressive top-4 finish in the final standings. Zakazaka was named Jlinal Cove's top player during Season 28.

[ 19 ] Jukkia Diijelhma [ - Jlinal Cove FC (Vilita) - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 29 CAPS: 27 :: GOALS::SR: 5 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Born in Starblaydia, Diijelhma moved to Turori following V-League Season 26 to pursue a new career in the Island Emirate. Diijelhma was one of the few Kionao Locals players in their disasterous V-League 27 season to receive even neutral reviews. Despite scoring no goals on the season, the Striker showed some skill that was required for the Locals to avoid another relegation in Season 28, and also proved to be useful for the Turori National team. After 7 seasons in Kionao, Diijelhma moved to Vilita to play for Jlinal Cove along side National Team star Liinai Zakazaka.

[ 18 ] Loala Kigoouao [ - Arcticala Inlet (Vilita) - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 29 CAPS: 64 :: GOALS::SR: 22 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Kigoouao signed for Morata Valley FC for V-League 26 and instantly made an impact at the Vilitan club, earning Top Goalscorer honors in the Declasse while leading Morata Valley to Stellar Division Promotion. Kigoouao was unfazed by the higher level of competition, upping the goal count to 16 in Season 27 and firmly setting the expectation that they would be the go-to forward for the Turori National Team in World Cup 58. Kigoouao was named Morata Valley player of the season during Season 27 and 28. After many outstanding seasons at Morata Valley, Kigoouao joined the Turoki Tide for V-League 30.

[ 9 ] Anuh Ciniima [ - Morata Valley (Vilita) - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 29 CAPS: 35 :: GOALS::SR: 5 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Ciniima was born in Turori to Misrantian parents before moving to Vilita to study and train for his sporting career. The unselfish striker joined Morata Valley after their promotion to the Stellar Division for Season 27 as a compliment to Turorian Striker Loala Kigoouao. Ciniima, while able to put the ball in the net when needed, has shown to be an expert decision maker, recording twice as many assists as goals inside the box.

[ 80 ] Abraham Gibbons [ - Kionao Locals - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 34 CAPS: 1 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]

THE HOLY EMPIRE WC 64 SQUAD

While the nation took a long break between WCs 7 and 25, the Holy Empire is proud to be the last currently active nation to have participated in WC1.

This Cup the Holy Empire Football association is fielding a team made up of members of the famous folk music band Sbrskj Krk Trkrj - or, in your own language, "Let Us All Rejoice in Harmonious Melodies of Glorious Motherland".

Sbrskj Krk Trkrj are from the picturesque but highly isolated (because that's the way they like it) Imperial region of Slobbodovania, famous for its goats, tractors, and factories where beets are processed into steel. Alas, one of the reasons Slobbodovania is so isolated is that the bridges keep collapsing.

Among Sbrskj Krk Trkrj's greatest hits are "Mother is Making Beet Soup for Supper (Again)", "Family Trees Should Have Few Branches", "When There is No Meat, We Can Always Eat Beets", "Chase Away the Strangers", "The Beet Song", and "Tractors for Turnips!" (also the title of their best-known album).

RP OPPORTUNITY

Let Us All Rejoice in Harmonious Melodies of Glorious Motherland wish to be pleasuring you! Commission them to write new famous song for your nation! After each matchday, you may suggest topic for new song by Let Us All Rejoice in Harmonious Melodies of Glorious Motherland!

You set theme for song, and band write song for best idea each match day - which will also include the result of your nation's most recent match. You can suggest song as many times as you like. Song theme need not be about beets. Let Us All Rejoice in Harmonious Melodies of Glorious Motherland look forward to pleasuring you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Squad, including the traditional Slobbodovanian instrument they play:

Goal:
Milan! plik-plok, singing

Defence:
Fyodr! zuzelhoorn
Pyotr! moodelhoorn
Fyodr-Pyotr! silenhoorn

Midfield:
Yaropolk! doobel plik-plok, singing
Vassily! hoobrl drums, singing
Vlad! krkln bells
Radvn! catpipes
Nikky! trppel plik-plok, singing

Forwards:
Ion! ear flutes
Sava! hitton sticks, singing

Subs:
The substitutes are Sbrskj Krk Trkrj's interpretive folk-dancing troupe; they are famous for their beet dance
GK: Dancing Ion
Def: Dancing Con
Mid: Dancing Khon
For: Dancing Slobodon

Because of the team spirit of egalitarian Slobbodovanian brotherhood, there is no designated captain.

Coaches:

The team coach remains World Cup Hall of Fame legend Juan Tzimisces.

The assistant coach is Starblaydi World Cup Hall of Fame legend Simeone Di Bradini.

The Holy Empire always registers the coaches as players, just in case.

Kit
The squad will wear the famous Imperial Gold and Red, as worn by the Holy Empire since WC1 (home left, change/away right)

Image

Ground
Home matches take place in the jewel-encrusted and gold and platinum-domed Imperial Hippodrome.

Style Modifiers / formation
Frosty football is attacking football. The Holy Empire always plays a 3-5-2 formation using overlapping wingers that turns into 3-3-4 on the counterattack.

OOC'ly, the team uses the maximum attacking style modifier permitted by each cup's hosts.

RP instructions:
Except as described below, knock yourselves out - creative RP is encouraged.

Please remember that the basic rules for travel to the Archregimancy [see below] also apply to the Holy Empire - you'll need someone to build a portal for you, you can't just fly/walk/drive there. If you want to deal with the malleable reality and non-linear time elements of the Dreamed Realm, and have no prior experience of these, it's probably best to check with me first.

Only I can decide if and when I might choose to field the coaches as players; please don't do this unilaterally.[/quote]

Postby Dance 2 Revolution » Wed Mar 27, 2013 8:15 am

As for the Baptism of Fire, Dance 2 Revolution will be entering the World Cup with 23 nameless "drones" donning the number of their shirt as their name (for IC reasons). Any names that have been revealed (and I haven't decided whether any will be in this cycle...maybe one or two) shall be edited into this post in due course.

As an explanation as some got a little confused during the BoF:

The starting goalkeeper is One, who has the squad number 1. The lone striker in the "Number 9" role, is Nine...who wears the squad number 9. The manager is known as Zero.

Dance 2 Revolution play a conservative 4-2-3-1 with a modifier of -1.

Kinitaria National Football Team
For the 64th World Cup Qualification
Image

Kinitaria have now missed on out on qualification for the World Cup four times in a row, each time by an incredibly slim margin. A fifth consecutive failure would surely leave boss Evinov in an untenable position.

Manager: Kristijan Evinov (age 62)
After a World Cup campaign as Kinitaria squeezed into the playoffs only to lose 8-5 on aggregate to Sargossa, and then their worst ever Cup of Harmony performance, some fans have expressed no confidence in the team's management. Evinov has been given one World Cup campaign to rescue his job, but doubts surround his position following a tricky qualifying draw, which he must navigate with a squad which is growing steadily older.
Tactically, he favours an attacking 4-4-2 formation, which could become a 4-2-4 if necessary, the two wide midfielders pushing up to support the attack. If desperately clinging onto a lead, the plan seems to be one of all out defence, with as much time-wasting and hoofs into the stands as it is possible to cram into the end-game.

Players
This might be the last chance the 'old guard' - who have been with the squad ever since the Baptism of Fire triumph way back ahead of World Cup 60 - ever have to take their position on the greatest stage of all. Some fans have even criticised Evinov's loyalty to his ageing players, and when you've got a first-team squad with an average age somewhere north of 30, they may have a point. The manager will desperately be hoping his faith will be repaid with qualification, but some strength in depth will be urgently needed.

1. Costin Petran - GK - age 35 - 1. Maja - 118 caps - 0 goals
Petran is by far the overwhelming choice for the goalkeeping position, having held the #1 jersey almost permanently since the team played its first match. A superb shot-stopper, he is likely to consider each goal conceded as a personal insult. He played a key role in many of Kinitaria's most famous victories, and it is unlikely that he will be ousted from his position.

2. Karl Sala - LB - age 30 - Mi'ato - 99 caps - 1 goal
Sala has been an established member of the team right from their first game. An old-fashioned sort of left-back, he aims to make life hard for oncoming attackers, and will always stand his ground, although he's now not as fast as he once was. He has been known to put in some harsh tackles, and this is shown by his disciplinary record, since he's been sent off eight times in his national career.

3. Doran Lupei - CB - age 30 - Litora United - 104 caps - 4 goals (Captain)
The loyal, talented defender is great at marking, sticking closely to his man and breaking up attacks through the middle. He's proven himself to be the anchor of a Kinitar back line which has often been criticised for being fragile, and his performance will likely be crucial if the defence are to stick together and work as a unit. He's earned the captain's armband for both club and country through his loyalty, sticking with Litora United at a time when the club was going into meltdown.

4. Sebastien Sykora - CB - age 31 - AFC Damaciu - 94 caps - 2 goals
Maybe not the most technically gifted of defenders, Sykora has nevertheless established himself as a regular in the national side. He's no stranger to the occasional error, having cost Kinitaria crucial goals on at least two occasions during qualifying, and was part of the Damaciu side which slipped down the league in the latter half of last season. Despite this, he is versatile and can drift into new positions as needed, and he has also been known to notch a few goals himself, mainly headed efforts from corners.

5. Anton Spirlea - RB - age 29 - Mi'ato City - 102 caps - 0 goals
An accomplished team player and capable of performing under pressure, Spirlea is known for his excellent distribution of the ball, able to pick out a team-mate and start a counter attack with ease. He never panics when pressed and prefers to play his way out of trouble rather than hoofing the ball upfield. It's very rare to see him make a mistake and if he does have a flaw, it would be that he tends to let his complacency get the better of him. Expect to see him perform during qualification.

6. Sergiu Vacarestič - LW - age 28 - Avnani Athletic - 99 caps - 22 goals
Vacarestič is now an established member of the Kinitar squad, one of the first names on the teamsheet. He is an attacking-minded winger who slots perfectly into Kinitaria's formation, and he's just as likely to cut inside and have a go at goal as well as sending in a cross from the left - preferring to cross early and attempt to beat the offside trap.

7. Paulo Naoumov - DM - age 33 - AFC Farnworth (LCP) - 90 caps - 18 goals
Having been a divisive figure for many Kinitar fans, he's made a lot of progress towards winning them back with some fine performances for the national side. The versatile midfielder prefers pace rather than distribution, his speed allowing him to beat opposing defenders or get on the end of a cross with ease. In his preferred DM role, the determined Naoumov refuses to back down from a challenge and can often be seen making life worse for oncoming attackers.

8. Kristijan Preda - CM - age 31 - Jan Mayen Islanders (PIS) - 89 caps - 16 goals
Preda is an accomplished free-kick taker and can also head a ball well. After some time in the wilderness, he impressed Evinov in training and has won himself a spot in the first team, and rewarded the manager's faith in him with some fine performances. He might not be able to run a game himself, but his hard work and determination can make all the difference.

9. Lupan Mihalcič - SS - age 33 - Mi'ato City - 104 caps - 61 goals
One half of the greatest strike partnership in Kinitar football, Mihalcič has proven his quality over and over again. His best position is just behind the main striker - typically Sabčot - from which he can both score and create goals. He can time his runs perfectly to cut through the opposing defence, and prefers to hit a first-time shot rather than using a few valuable seconds to bring the ball under control. Certain to be hungry for more goals during the upcoming tournament.

10. Luka Sabčot - CF - age 32 - Mi'ato City - 111 caps - 84 goals (Vice-captain)
Kinitaria's famous talisman is getting on a bit by now. He doesn't have that extra yard of pace, the one spark of magic, that he was once able to produce. But he's still a superb player, there's no doubt about that. He still lives up to his image, both as a fantastic footballer and as a bit of a playboy. And he'll still be crucial if Kinitaria are to finally make it to the World Cup finals. He'll want to grab his chance before it disappears, so watch out...

11. Duska Avramov - RM - age 33 - FC Serenberg - 22 caps - 3 goals
Having been thrown in at the deep end, Avramov has impressed consistently in the national team. He is an offensively-minded player, great with crossing, even scores a few, but he's not the most reliable if called upon to defend. He fits nicely into Evinov's system and, after proving himself in the past, will be looking to keep up this run of form during the qualification campaign.

12. Jaren Kozak - GK - age 31 - Mi'ato - 1 cap - 0 goals
Kozak is a decent keeper, he's yet to reach his peak, and he's helped his club Mi'ato to three straight top-two finishes. However, he can't get a look-in for the national team thanks to Evinov's staunch refusal to rotate his goalkeeper. He'll grab his chance if he can get it, but there's a good chance that it won't come this cycle.

13. David Topol - CB - age 24 - Mi'ato - 3 caps - 0 goals
Following an impressive breakthrough in the Premier Division, Topol has earned his place in the national team. He's not the tallest of players, but he makes up for it in determination and technical ability. He's remarkably calm under pressure, and is one for the big games - he's likely to get a bit more of an opportunity to prove himself during qualification.

14. Milan Beskid - CF - age 27 - Universita Tirinthea - 29 caps - 9 goals
The talented striker can finish like no other and functions best with a strike partner to spur him on to greater heights. He's not one for spectacular goals, instead, he's a consistent threat to opposition defences if he gets so much as a sight of goal within the penalty area. A reliable backup to Kinitaria's front two, and if they desperately need goals, might be thrown on to make up a 4-3-3.

15. Samuel Costica - CM - age 25 - Inovita - 23 caps - 1 goal
He's made a strong impact on the national team since being brought through from the youths in the 62 qualifiers. Not quite a first team player just yet, but if he does come on, expect him to try to use his pace to beat his marker before spreading the ball out wide to launch an attack. Distribution is definitely one of his strong points.

16. Polin Blanarič - RB - age 25 - Mi'ato - 4 caps - 0 goals
Blanarič was a bit of a surprise inclusion in the squad, but he's well-known to boss Evinov after they spent some time together at Taimanesta. He's a consistent if not spectacular player, and maybe Evinov's looking for a bit of consistency to bring stability to an often fragile Kinitar defensive line.

17. Zenel Halil - RW - age 25 - Mi'ato City - 8 caps - 0 goals
The tricky winger burst into the national consciousness following a run of form - and quite a few goals - in Mi'ato City's title-winning season. Now, after being drafted into the national side, he will be looking for opportunities to make his mark at a higher level. Most observers agree that Halil has a successful career ahead of them, but it remains to be seen if he can live up to the hype.

18. Ciprian Marin - CB - age 25 - Universita Tirinthea - 41 caps - 0 goals
Another former youth team player who has significantly impressed fans and manager alike since being given a chance in the 62 qualifiers. He stands up to onrushing attackers and uses his strength to win the ball. He has a tendency to dive into rash challenges and still has a lot to learn before becoming an established squad player.

19. Cyril Novak - LB - age 32 - Mowling City Tigercats (NSI) - 38 caps - 0 goals
Novak returned from a horror injury to become a solid and capable member of the Kinitar squad. The bruising left-back plays hard but fair with no quarter given to opponents, a great sense of timing allowing him to stop attacks dead with a perfectly executed tackle. He's scored a few goals from headers at club level, but has yet to trouble international goalkeepers.

20. Leon Cantacuzino - LM - age 31 - Litora United - 50 caps - 13 goals
Litora are lucky that they managed to keep Cantacuzino, because he is an effective all-round player, able to score and create goals in equal measure. When he plays, he'll be the team's corner taker, since he can swing in a good ball from either the left or the right. He prefers to stay wide, use the flanks and cross from the byline, and he can do this very effectively to slice open an opposing defence. Kinitaria's super-sub, in a way. He can change the direction of a game almost single-handedly.

21. Malen Elkinič - CM - age 19 - Mi'ato - 0 caps - 0 goals
The youngest player to be named in this squad, Elkinič broke through into the Mi'ato team recently, providing a spark of life during the team's dismal 3477 season. A product of their youth academy, pace is his strong point, which is something Kinitaria have been lacking in recent years. He probably won't set the world alight immediately, but look out for him in the future. He's got the world at his feet, if he uses his opportunities right.

22. Dalča Nurmanov - FW - age 29 - Fryi Frêndê (FFD) - 20 caps - 4 goals
After being frozen out of the squad for some time, a range of impressive games in the Premier Division brought him back to the squad and secured a big-money move to Farfadillis. He's put in a good claim for a first-team place in some previous matches, and with a run of form in the qualifiers, he could be well on his way to an established squad place.

23. Doriel Azinovič - GK - age 28 - AFC Damaciu - 0 caps - 0 goals
There's no denying that Azinovič is a capable keeper, but... what does a third-choice keeper actually do? I think they're just there to take up space. Moving swiftly on...

Stadium

Central Stadium, Mi'ato
Capacity 76,000

A purpose-built modern stadium in the centre of Kinitaria's capital, Mi'ato. The Central Stadium hosts all of Kinitaria's home matches. Visiting teams should note that a maximum of 6,000 tickets are made available to away supporters, with seats located in a segregated area in the top of the upper bowl. This is a prime location to throw things at the home fans, however, it's also a prime location to have things thrown back.

Fans

Kinitar fans burning flares in a Cup of Harmony game

Kinitar fans are known for their passion. They're also known for burning down a significant portion of the Tricorn Arena in Wight during the Cup of Harmony, although the FFK has naturally disavowed all responsibility, and supporters' groups maintain that the shoddy construction of the host stadium was to blame. Either way, lighting flares is a part of fan culture in Kinitaria, and there's always the possibility that a Kinitaria goal will turn the air thick with smoke. During the match, the team are typically roared on by 70,000 home fans screaming themselves hoarse non-stop throughout the game, which creates an intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams - although the fact that the aforementioned flares, among other things, are sometimes thrown at visiting players or fans might also contribute to this. The fights which characterise some of the most fierce club matches, such as the cross-capital derby between hated rivals Mi'ato City and Mi'ato, have yet to make their way to international level, although some say that this is merely because they haven't found the right spark yet. The FFK has been somewhat reluctant to take action against such matters, because "it's all part of the game, isn't it?"

The Archregimancy WC64 Roster

First of all, everyone except newbies knows that the Archregimancy is a nation of Eastern Orthodox Christian monks from an alternate reality, right?

The Archregimancy's Monastic Football Association were initially as surprised as anyone when their World Cup 62 & 63 squads of otherworldly ascetic monks each characterised by behaviour which even your average Archregimancy monk might consider a little eccentric* not only qualified for the World Cup twice in a row, but surged into the top 10 of the World Cup rankings.

The MFA thought they hadn't a hope of winning anything; instead, they've apparently found themselves with the best national side they've had for many a cup - and now realise that their manager isn't all he appeared to be.

This newspaper story from WC63 may help explain both the MFA's recent change of heart about the desirability of footballing victory, and the shocking discovery about the manager's background:

The Archregimancy wrote:THE MONASTIC TIMES

MONKS WIN!
Holy Synod Courts Controversy by Celebrating World Cup Success

By Fr. Nicholas the Scribe

Controversy embroiled monastic sports last night as the Holy Synod announced an extraordinary U-turn in sporting policy by announcing that they had "accepted God's will" and were encouraging all Orthodox sporting fans - whether monastics or laity - to celebrate the Archregimancy's unexpected topping of their first round group.

"The ways of the Lord are never unjust, though they are sometimes hard to understand" said a senior archimandrite (speaking on condition of anonymity) said to be close to Metropolitan Mark, Protos of the Holy Synod.

The final catalyst for this unexpected change in attitude seems to have been the Archregimancy's extraordinary 2-0 victory over hosts Aguazul, which neutral observers have reported was "fully deserved" by a "well-drilled, tactically astute team intent on playing a seductive passing game."

The upset caused by the use of the word 'seductive' in application to anything relating to the Monastic Republic has tended to obscure the fact that local media reports have corroborated this analysis, speaking of 'controlled dribbles', 'clean, accurate passing', and an 'honored but relaxed' attitude.

This reporter has learned of the key role played in this transformation by Fr. Basil the Fool for Christ, who - as I can now exclusively reveal - was, prior to becoming a monastic, Jorge Vatatzes, a leading Imperial League manager well known for his unusual tactical approach, his novel faecal motivational techniques and a noted ability to transform struggling relegation-bound teams into championship contenders over just two or three seasons.

"In truth we had no idea" said a Monastic Football Association official (anonymously). "If we thought he was going to take the job seriously, we never would have appointed him; all this time we were trying to ignore the team in the vague hope they would go away in a suitable metaphor for monastic humility, and he was turning them into world beaters while no one was paying attention". The official refused to comment if the team's record should instead be seen as a metaphor for the Triumph of Orthodoxy, simply noting that "there's a lot of football to played yet" and that "Valladares are no mugs".

Under the circumstances, it's no surprise that the Archregimancy are fielding an unchanged side for the third cup in a row (time passes differently in the Dreamed Realm).

Goal:
Fr. Ephraim the Grazer: When not playing football, Fr Ephraim goes down on all fours, and lives by grazing on grass among the beasts of the field.

Defence:
Fr. Mark the Hairy: Has never once cut his hair, which grows all over his body; he appears to many as one of the wild beasts of the mountains where his hermitage is located.
Fr. Symeon the Enchained: Carries heavy chains of iron all over his body to remind himself of the weight of his sins.
Fr. Evagrius the Imprisoned: Has (very) reluctantly left the cage in which he locked himself 20 subjective years ago; it's so small that he can neither stand up straight nor straighten his arms; he'll lock himself back in after every match.
Fr. Abramios the Recluse: Is so concerned about leaving his isolated desert hermitage that he will wear a sack over his head so as to avoid others recognising him.

Midfield:
Fr. Eusebius the Rigorous: Lives in a small enclosure he built himself under a fig tree; during Great Lent, will usually restrict himself to eating but 15 figs.
Fr. Hilarion the Naked: Has, somewhat reluctantly, consented to wear a loincloth when playing away from home, or at home against teams that feature women.
Fr. Artemius the Unwashed [Cap]: None of the members of the squad are close intimates of soap and water, but Fr. Artemius' ascetic devotion is such that he's never once washed or been washed since the day he was born.
Fr. Mark the Goatskin Wearer: Wears only the skins of animals who die of natural causes near his remote hermitage; which may not sound remarkable, except he doesn't remove the heads.

Forwards:
Fr. Gerasimus the New Ascetic: Not just a grazer, but also lives a life of total silence.
Fr. Theophilus the Wise: Star forward for perennial Monastic League strugglers Hermits United; believed to be on the squad due to a clerical error.

Manager/coach:
Fr. Basil the Fool for Christ: Feigns (apparently) madness so as to expose the folly of the world; typically goes naked (though, like Fr. Hilarion, will wear a loincloth under certain conditions), always wears chains around his neck, and occasionally throws his own faeces at sinners. This may include his own squad, the opposition, and the watching crowd. But don't forget that he also has a past as a highly successful secular manager who was known for "his unusual tactical approach, his novel faecal motivational techniques and a noted ability to transform struggling relegation-bound teams into championship contenders over just two or three seasons".

*OOC - these are nonetheless wholly based on actually recorded late Classical / medieval examples of ascetic monasticism. Naked grazers ('boskoi') were recorded on isolated areas of Mount Athos as recently as 1960. Saint Basil the Fool for Christ is a historical figure - though he was never a football manager

Formation:
The Archregimancy always plays an orthodox 4-4-2; style modifier +0.

Kit:

See Fr. Seraphim the Occasionally Dangerously Free Thinking Theologian model the Archregimancy's monastic robes!

Note that Fr. Hilarion will, however, never wear more than a loincloth unless required to do so by local laws when playing away from home. Fr. Mark the Goastskin Wearer has been prevailed upon to die his goatskins black so as to minimise confusion - though not to remove the heads.

Team Icon

The team is always accompanied to matches by the Holy Icon of the Mother of God, Bringer of Victory, which is paraded before the team before the match. The Holy Icon looks like:

Tips for footballing visitors to the Archregimancy:

1) Each home match is preceded by the complete Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. Rest assured that this should only require visiting teams, fans, and officials to stand for a mere 2 hours before kickoff. Consider yourselves lucky we don't use the Liturgy of St. Basil.

2) We control the nature of reality in the Dreamed Realm. This isn't used to cheat - all normal rules of football are strenuously followed - but it does have two major side effects:
A) Any injuries to either team in Archregimancy home matches are immediately healed.
B) No violent or riotous behaviour by visiting fans will be tolerated. Any such behaviour will find those responsible immediately transported back to ordinary physical reality.

3) Direct travel from ordinary physical reality to the Dreamed Realm is impossible. Some 72 hours before your away qualifier in the Archregimancy, a team of monks shall arrive in your home stadium and construct a portal to the Dreamed Realm. You may then use this to travel to the Archregimancy at your leisure.

4) Visiting support is limited to a maximum of 1000 fans.

5) Women are not usually permitted into the Archregimancy. Exceptions will be made for visiting players and properly accredited officials - largely because we have to.

6) Formerly, the Archregimancy made a point of being resentful of being forced to permit atheists, communists, freemasons, assorted heretics and foul excelites into the Archregimancy for home qualifiers. These days the Monastic Football Association tries a little harder to welcome all of the above – though largely in the hope that they might just possibly be open to conversion through a slightly more conciliatory approach.

HOME GROUND

In recognition of the changed status of the national football team, this cup the Archregimancy will be playing its home matches in one of the most glamorous (if that's quite the right word) monasteries in the entire Monastic Republic: Troitse-Sergiyeva.

Important RP detail: I keep a RL liturgical calendar for the Archregimancy; this means qualifiers are taking place in the middle of Orthodox Lent (Orthodox Easter is 5 weeks after Western Easter this year - so not until May 5). The entire team will therefore be keeping to an even stricter than usual fasting regimen.

OOC: I realise my team might present a role-playing challenge. Rest assured that once they start playing they'll play just like any other team (though they might be a bit more inclined to pray after scoring), so I have no problem with you treating the team like any other if you don't want to deal with the Orthodox Christian element.

COACHING STAFF

Hiilary Vander Rox
Age: 33

GOALKEEPERS
The goalkeeper in Yesopalitha's style of football must have a great awareness of the action. Defense can turn to offensive and back in mere moments, and back again. They must have a strong leg to kick the ball down field whenever possible, as well as great one-on-one defense for the inevitable free kicks and penalty kicks that occur. A good goalkeeper is perhaps the most overlooked part of the Flames' strategy.

#0 Jonah CALHOUN
Age: 30 Height: 6 feet, 6 inches Team: Northbrook Diamonds FK (Polar Islandstates)

#1 Terrance HOUSEN
Age: 26 Height: 6 feet, 8 inches Team: FC Torshavn (Polar Islandstates)

#2 Jing WANG
Age: 20 Height: 6 feet, 0 inches Team: Matthew City Rangers (Northern Sunrise Islands)
DEFENDERS
Defenders have two jobs in Yesopalitha's scheme - make the goalkeeper's job easier, and push the ball to the midfield, away from Yesopalitha's third, as much as possible. If they do that, the goalkeeper will be kept clean, and there will be no problems for the Flames. They have three very capable defenders right now, but are always looking for capable replacements, looking into the future.

#8 Catherine PEIROT
Age: 22 Height: 5 feet, 7 inches Team: Arcon (Saugeais)

#12 Marcus YERSAU
Age: 25 Height: 6 feet, 0 inches Team: Atlantea Hurricanes (Taeshan)

#14 JeMichael TERN
Age: 26 Height: 5 feet, 11 inches Team: Augusta (Darmen)

#15 Vance BRIOLLET

#19 Naisi VON HELZ
Age: 25 Height: 6 feet, 2 inches Team: Northbrook Diamonds FK (Polar Islandstates)

#22 Noah GALVIN
Age: 32 Height: 6 feet, 3 inches Team: Edmonton United (Valladares)

#30 Kirsi STENBERG
Age: 22 Height: 6 feet, 1 inch Team: Rishon LeZion (Califan Solidarity League)

#33 Damian GARCEZ
Age: 21 Height: 6 feet, 2 inches Team: Walldrew (Saugeais)

#44 Michael KEVIN
Age: 29 Height: 5 feet, 7 inches Team: SC Caimanes (Valladares)
MIDFIELDERS
There are two kinds of midfielders in Yesopalitha's game. There are the wingers, one on each side, that carry the ball up rapidly from defense to offense. They are responsible for helping out with the defensive backfield if they need it, not that this happens very often. Then, there are the three "true" midfielders that pass the ball back and forth between each other and carry it up for scoring chances among themselves or the forwards. As there are only two forwards in Yesopalitha's game, a goal has a higher percentage of originating from the midfield than the usual team. Midfielders must be diverse and able to adapt to various situations based on what is required at the time.

#7 Fantasia CECILE-MARIE
Age: 31 Height: 5 feet, 11 inches Team: Ituraitz FC (Astograth)

#11 PARK Sung Hwan
Age: 23 Height: 5 feet, 7 inches Team: Atlantea Hurricanes (Taeshan)

Age: 20 Height: 5 feet 9 inches Team: Fontana (Califan Solidarity League)

#35 Jane VANDER ROX
Age: 30 Height: 6 feet, 0 inches Team: Echegoyan FC (Astograth)

#41 Kathryn VANASSE
Age: 21 Height: 5 feet, 5 inches Team: Morata Valley (Vilita)

#42 Isaac JACK-BENTLEY
Age: 29 Height: 6 feet, 2 inches Team: Bayern-Algaer (Taeshan)

#50 Eric TUPOA
Age: 23 Height: 5 feet, 10 inches Team: Matthew City Rangers (Northern Sunrise Islands)

#66 Justinian MARQUETTE
Age: 26 Height: 5 feet, 8 inches Team: Independence (SarahRed-n-BarryBlue)

#71 Clarence PATTERSON
Age: 22 Height: 6 feet, 4 inches Team: Walldrew (Saugeais)
FORWARDS
Forwards, or strikers, are the offensive specialists of Yesopalithan football. They are the ones that are always up front, looking for a chance to score. With only two of them existing, they often need the midfield's help to actually get the scoring done, but they sure do try out there. Strikers are fast, deadly, and good at shooting. They tend to be on the small side, though, so they can be pushed around a bit by bigger defenders.

#20 Powell JACKSON
Age: 23 Height: 5 feet, 9 inches Team: Eau Claire United (Darmen)

#21 Nadya DOSTOEVICH - CAPTAIN
Age: 21 (Vampire) Height: 5 feet, 2 inches Team: Rothbardton Wednesday (St. Murray)

The Pony Republic of Equestrian States
National Hoofball Team - World Cup 64 Roster

Team History
Hoofball is easily the most popular sport in the Equestrian States. Known internationally as football or soccer, the game has long been a part of the Equestrian sporting identity. However, it was not until just a few decades ago that the first national leagues began organizing in the country, and even younger than the leagues is the Equestrian national team.

Formed prior to the 58th World Cup, the first international tournament participated in by the Equestrian States was Baptism of Fire 45. But despite the team’s decent performance, they were eliminated by the end of the group stage. Looking to redeem themselves, the Equestrians joined Market Cup V. As the tournament progressed, many teams shifted their best teams to the World Cup, but the Equestrians remained invested in the Market Cup. In the end, the Equestrian States would win the Market Cup, but thanks to their neglect of the qualifiers, failed miserably in World Cup 58.

The next appearance of the Equestrian States would come in the first regional tournament in the Pony Lands: Equestria Cup I. Organized and hosted by the Equestrian States, the tournament was not large by international standards, but given the general lack of interest in sports in the Pony Lands, it was a decent-sized competition. After finishing third in the Equestria Cup, the Equestrians looked forward to World Cup 59.

While the Equestrian performance in the World Cup 59 qualifiers was okay, the team and its supporters still felt the agony of elimination despite several upsets including a scoreless draw with the highly-ranked Jeruselem squad. Fortunately, the Equestrian States was recognized for its turnaround and was invited to compete in Cup of Harmony 51. Although the Equestrians went into the tournament with low expectations, they would silence their critics by stunning the higher-ranked West Zirconia and Darmen teams on their way to winning the group. Unfortunately, the Equestrians were drawn against Wight in the round of 16 and fell in a closely-contested match.

After two World Cup qualifying campaigns, the Equestrians were slowly rising higher in the rankings. But despite their increasing successes, few expected the Equestrian States to have a strong run as the World Cup 60 qualifiers got underway. While the team experienced a sluggish start, the Equestrians quickly recovered and upset Western Cuba on the road with a draw as the first half of the campaign came to a close. The second half of the tournament would witness a display of prowess by the Equestrian States not seen since the Market Cup. In the end, the Equestrians would advance to the playoff pods after an upset victory over Western Cuba. Their first playoff match, against West Zirconia, resulted in a surprising victory for the Equestrians and they advanced to face Astograth in a match to decide who would play in the World Cup. It was a close game, but the Equestrians would fall in additional extra time and instead of a stunning World Cup berth, went on to Cup of Harmony 52. Perhaps demotivated by just how close they came to qualifying, the Equestrians performed poorly in the Cup of Harmony. Finishing third in their group with losses to Kiryu-shi and Civil Citizenry, the Equestrians were knocked out of the tournament.

The World Cup 61 qualifiers would also prove to be painful for the Equestrian States. Despite dominant wins against several decent-ranked teams, the Equestrians struggled against several of the lowest-ranked teams in the group and found themselves in fourth place at the midpoint. Having come into the tournament looking to make the World Cup for the first time, the Equestrians knew they were far behind in the race and would have to perform well in the second half to have even a chance at a playoff spot. But cruel fate seemed to be against the Equestrian States in the tournament, and despite surprising draws on the road against both Cosumar and Krytenia, the Equestrians fell just short of advancing thanks to a couple of home draws against the lower teams that robbed the Equestrian States of the precious few points that would have allowed them to advance. To add injury to insult, starting goalkeeper High Soarin’ was unable to play in the last few critical matches thanks to an untimely injury.

Once again, the Equestrians went to compete in the Cup of Harmony as a consolation prize for their valiant efforts at qualification. The group stage was difficult, and with High Soarin’ unable to play, the Equestrians were forced to rely on back-up Mac Stevenson. While the Equestrians snuck out of the group in second place, they ran into a wall against the host nation of Turori. After 120 minutes of hard play, the match was to be decided by penalties. Equestrian fans could hardly watch as Stevenson failed to stop a single shot. Once again, the Equestrian States had come close only to be denied and eliminated.

Making their fifth attempt to qualify in World Cup 62, the Equestrians were drawn into Group 9 and went on the road to start their campaign against expected group runner-up Darmen. But the Ponies stunned the Darmenis, taking home a shocking upset victory by a score of 3-2. However, the team's morale would take a severe beating three weeks later in Qazox, where the Equestrians suffered their worst defeat of all-time (6-2) and also lost goalkeeper High Soarin' for the next few months to an injury. As the qualifiers progressed, the Ponies were handed upsets by both United Gordonopia and the Scandinavian Islands. The team's once considerable lead over Darmen shrank to a mere two points, and the Ponies were forced to keep on winning to stay ahead of the Darmenis. In the end, the group's playoff spot was to be decided on the final match day. The Equestrians played on the road in the hellish wastelands of Gangnam, while the Darmenis faced Qazox. While Darmen determined starters would overrun the Qazian reserves, the Equestrians also managed to triumph over their foe, sending the Ponies to Astograth for a playoff against Jeru FC. The Equestrians fought for the spot in the World Cup to the final minute, but despite their efforts, the Ponies fell short 3-2 to heavily-favored Jeru FC. For the second time, the Equestrians had nearly qualified against a much higher-ranked opponent, only to come up empty-hooved.

Continuing on to the New Montreal States for the Cup of Harmony, the Equestrians hoped to prove themselves with a strong outing. It was not to be. After being upset by Cuboneland in their first match, the Ponies drew against both Jeruselem and Mesoland. The two draws mathematically eliminated the Equestrian States from the next round, making the team's victory over Farfadillis largely pointless. Once again, the Ponies had followed up a playoff appearance with a pitiful Cup of Harmony run.

The qualifying campaign for the 63rd World Cup would prove to be particularly painful for the Equestrian States. Although the Ponies started the tournament flying high, winning their first several matches by significant margins, a devastating string of injuries left the team without many of its best players. As the injuries continued to pile up, head coach Twilight Striker was forced to rely on younger and younger reserves. Despite their relative inexperience on the international stage, the fan-dubbed "Foals" (a play on the more traditional "Ponies" nickname) performed far better than was expected, edging out World Cup 62 co-hosts Carpathia and Ruthenia on the final match day for Group 11's playoff spot by virtue of a 2-1 win over Estope. In the playoffs, the Equestrians were drawn against the high-performing team from Farfadillis. The first match was a scoreless draw that saw the Ponies again greatly exceed expectations. But in front of an enormous Farf crowd, the Ponies were unable to emerge victorious, falling 1-0 in another unexpectedly close match.

Cup of Harmony 55 was another disappointment for the Equestrians, who came into the tournament looking to halt their slide in the rankings. However, upsets were the theme of the tournament once more for the struggling Ponies, who stunned Jeru FC but fell flat against Birolika and High Heels en route to another early exit from the consolation tournament. Meanwhile, teams which the Ponies had defeated in recent years, and had been favored against, excelled in the World Cup. Farfadillis, United Gordonopia, and even champions Audioslavia had been the victims of the Equestrian States, but suddenly found themselves charging deep into the finals of the World Cup.

For this qualifying campaign the stakes will be high for the Equestrian States national team. The slide in the rankings has become steeper since the 54th Cup of Harmony, and this squad of Equestrians will be tasked with halting it. Additionally, the success of teams whom the Ponies triumphed against recently is a challenge, and one that fans will surely expect the team to face. Will the Equestrians emerge from the group with a third consecutive playoff berth, or will they fall to their opponents and slip further down in the ranks?

Stadium Information
Image
Name: The Equestria Dome
Location: Canterlot, Equestrian States
Capacity: 87,500
Short Description: The Equestria Dome is the largest stadium in the Equestrian States and is located in the capital city of Canterlot. With the rapid growth of Canterlot in recent years and the increasing popularity of the city as a tourist destination for sports and other events, the National Equestrian Sports Council decided to expand upon the Equestria Dome’s original 75,000 seats. The result was a 12,500 seat increase to accommodate the waves of fans that descend upon the stadium on a regular basis. The Equestria Dome is the home of many of the Equestrian States’ national sports teams as well as several local Canterlot teams.

[OOC: The picture is the closest one I could find to what I imagine Diamond Park to look like. If in doubt, follow the description, not the image.]

Name: Diamond Park
Location: Stalliongrad, Equestrian States
Capacity: 75,000
Short Description: Stalliongrad is the second largest city in the Equestrian States and is located on the opposite side of the Harmony Mountains as Canterlot. Diamond Park is one of the most stunning accomplishments of equine engineering. Built into the very sides of the mountains, a carved overhang provides shelter from the sun, and unicorn magic gives the rocky stadium protection from destructive rainfall when the Ministry of Weather Control schedules it. Diamond Park takes its name from the large hoard of gems that was discovered during the stadium's excavation and helped fund the completion of the building project. The stadium is home to Stalliongrad HC as well as several other local teams.
Image
Name: Derby Field
Location: Manehattan, Equestrian States
Capacity: 65,000
Short Description: With one of the largest populations in the Equestrian States, the port city of Manehattan is home to Derby Field. Situated in the financial district of the city, the stadium is one of the oldest in the Equestrian States and has been considered several times for placement on the Equestrian Registry of Historic Sites. With a traditional-looking brick and glass exterior, it holds to the theme of architecture that is present in many Manehattan buildings. Derby Field is home to the Manehattan Dragons and also hosts many local events.
Image
Name: Sky-High Coliseum
Location: Cloudsdale, Equestrian States
Capacity: 45,000
Short Description: Cloudsdale is one of several aerial cities in the Equestrian States, though it is by far the largest. While Cloudsdale used to be inhabited solely by pegasi, advances in the magical sciences have made it possible for normally earthbound species to live and work there. However, regardless of these advances, pegasi continue to make up the majority of the population. The stadium itself is made primarily from clouds, and can be reshaped to accommodate many different sporting events. Sky-High Coliseum is home to all major Cloudsdale sports teams thanks to this convertible nature.
Image
Name: Manticore Park "The Jungle Abode"
Location: Everfree, Equestrian States
Capacity: ~49,500 (Including Seating on Surrounding Hills)
Short Description: Located deep in the Everfree Forest, the city of Everfree is one of the few population centers in the Equestrian States with a majority non-equine population. Manticore Park is home to Everfree Forest HC, which has some of the wildest and most energetic supporters in the National Equestrian Hoofball League. Surrounded by dense forest, the stadium has a rustic appearance and is often ranked high in the top sports venue polls for overall experience.
Image
Name: Elements Stadium
Location: Ponyville, Equestrian States
Capacity: 48,750
Short Description: One of the newer sports facilities in the Equestrian States, Elements Stadium is named after the Elements of Harmony, which are the guiding principles of the majority faith of the nation: Harmonism. Ponyville still has a small town feel about it, as the city has expanded outward, rather than upward as Canterlot and Manehattan have done. Elements Stadium is located near the city center, and is home to most of Ponyville's sports teams. Additionally, the venue recently hosted the 43rd Globe Cup Final.
