SKIES OF STEAM: GENESIS

IC

Background
The year is 1870. The world is not as we know it. Huge dreadnoughts churn through the seas, enormous tanks lumber across the ground, and gigantic airships hover through the skies. Technology is far advanced, as scientists all around the world have discovered how to make metal extremely light and incredibly strong. They have discovered more powerful fuels. They have discovered all new explosives. The industrial revolution occurred much earlier in Great Britain, and now, this new 'Technological Revolution' has spread around the civilized world, starting off in Prussia. As well as helping reduce poverty and hunger, it has readied the world for a war that no-one has ever known. A great war is coming, and it will plunge the world into catastrophe.

"It is not a question of if, but when the word war will come."

-- Kaiser Wilhelm I of Prussia, speaking to his advisors.

Welcome
Hey all, so I've been wanting to do some more steampunk, so here we are. Skies of Steam. As well as being steampunk we're having alternate history, i.e. we don't have to stick to RL 1870 nations. There can be a confederate states of America, or even a Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland, led by a Lord Protector. Anything goes, as long as you explain it and make it pretty realistic. Make sure you have a quick read through of other people's apps to see how history has played out.

Rules
1. Obviously, no godmodding.
2. Do not metagame: You may have learned something OOC. This knowledge cannot be transferred to IC.
3. You can debate on the OOC, but you cannot hurl insults and childish comments.
4. Do not be offensive in the OOC (Don't be racist etc).
5. The word of the OP is final.
6. The word of the co-OP is final, but the OP takes precedence over the co-OP.
7. Posts should be at least two four-line paragraphs (one for conferences). Absolutely NO one liners.
8. If you're going to be inactive for longer than two days, notify us on the OOC. No posts in three days without warning = kicked.

Pop & Dates
Use 1914 populations, as they're generally easier to find. The RP will start in January 1870 - and we'll sort of wing it from there. A rough guide will be every four pages the season will change - we'll just have summer and winter, so every four pages is six months ish. Therefore a year is eight pages.

Application
Before filling out an application, make sure you have read ALL of the OP, as well as the 'Technology Guide' below to help you when you make IC posts.
Nation Name: (Full title of your nation.)
Government Type: (Democracy, Absolute Monarchy, etc)
Religion: (Your nation's declared official religion. If the majority of the populace is a different religion, mention this too.)

Leader appearance: (LINK to leader picture.)
Population: (A nice, round number in millions.)
Military size: (No more than 5% of pop in times of peace.)
History of nation: (Explain how you got the land you have now, throw in a bit to play with IC etc. No effort = not accepted.)
Land: (LINK to image of claims or list of real world 2013 countries.)
Flag: (LINK to national flag.)

Technology Guide
Some of you may have worked out or thought this is a little similar to the game Dystopian Wars. Yes, it is a little similar, and it's a great game, but I want to lay down a few rules about technology and what will be invented etc. Western & central Europe are generally the ones most ahead tech-wise. In some cases, there are links to images to show what I mean. If you're going to try and invent something, let us know OOC first or talk to me over TG.

Lasers & Plasma - Some steampunk settings have lasers & plasma. This one doesn't.

Robots - Hmmm... nah. No robots.

Tesla weaponry - Meh, I'm not sure. I don't want it to exist right now, but maybe in a later in the series.

Flamethrowers - No. At least, not yet. Want to get a bit further in.

Airships - Due to the discovery of how to make metal extremely light and extremely strong, airships have become huge. The most advanced nations have the technology to make airships as big as ships such as the HMS Warrior. These airships are made to float by propellers or, more commonly, balloons (1) (2).

Landships/tanks - Similar to airships, tanks range from the size we know today to huge super-heavy tanks made by the highly advanced nations. The biggest tanks are as large as houses. Self-propelled guns also exist.(1) (2)

Ships - By far the biggest of these vehicles are the ships. They have become monstrous machines, packed with guns and men. Despite this, small escorts and the like still exist, but the advanced nations own ships 1000ft long, as well as aircraft carriers. And they're getting bigger. (1) (2)

Planes - The skies are graced with a relatively new invention, around 20 years old now, planes. They range from the size of the small fighters to medium size ships. Not as big as airships, but these large 'bombers' pack a punch. Fighter and small planes are very agile and quick.

Infantry & weapons - Despite the new armour, infantry still march to battle. They are especially good in urban environments, as the tanks usually obliterate the buildings that the nation is trying to capture. Infantry come in different shapes and sizes, depending on the nation's uniform. Handheld weaponry is only semi-automatic (e.g. Revolver or Prussian Cog Repeater, like an M1 Garand) or bolt-action. Heavy machine guns like the Maxim are the only type of fully automatic weapon. Many travel into battle on large troop transports. Some act as boarders (see below).

Jetpacks - This technology is used by boarders, who are present on large tanks, ships, and airships. They equip jetpacks and fly over to the enemy vessel. Some are shot down by anti-air, but those that make it across tangle with the enemy crew.

Gas - A rather old technology now, but still in use today. Almost every nation, even some of the less advanced ones, have access to gas technology, as well as gas mask technology. Many soldiers march to war wearing their gas masks due to the abundance of this gas technology, as well as to protect themselves that little bit more from the smog that comes out of the lumbering war machines of the modern age. Despite being one of the oldest technologies to plague the battlefield, it is still one of the worst ways to die, and the soldiers of every nation know it.

If there's any technology not listed here that you're wondering about, don't just invent it, ask on the OOC first.

Nation Name: The Eastern Empire of Japan
Government Type: Empire
Religion: Shinto
Leader name: Emperor Tuhiku Tiitso
Leader appearance: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... _Japan.jpg
Population: 150 million
Military size:12 million
History of nation: Japan is one of the first countries to accept Westernization by the many European countries that invested in the industry of Japan. The Empire has became a regional and world superpower as its empire expands to : Upper coast of China, Korea,Taiwan,Microneasia,Solomon Islands,Polyneasia, and Melanesia(excpet Papua New Guinea)

The actual history of Japan started around 710 AD where the Date clan unifed japan and delcared it the first imperal state to where the clan rulled for several centries until a massive civil war among the clan spit up the nation back to the clans . It wasn't until the begiing of the year 1600 when the first true Emperor began its true reign. The second Empreor was also the last shogan named lord Nobunaka who was more of a tyrnat to the people as the Japanese people called it the "Era of viloence" as name for the many rebllions that had quickly rose and put down, but the name was more fitting for the slaughtering of the forces and innonce of the people who also rebelled or had no affliation to any rebels whatsoever, they where just collaertal damage. Nobunaka was assaianted by seven samurai in the year 1621 and the samurai where the heroes of the time. stories of their brravery went down in Japanese history as the"Tale of the Samurai Seven".

The "Age of Samurai" lasted until the year 1784 where several Eurpoean powers force Japan into open its doors to the world. Japan was the first to openly and forcefully Westernization as Japan saw its thrid emepror named Empeor Tensai Titiso who declared the Titiso Restoration that rapitly made Japan a world and regional power as the Japanese where able to build their own weapontry and airshapes thanks to their European neighbors. The samurai did not take the European investments on their home so kindly and treated it as an acted of treason to their Emperor and an invasion from Europe. The Empire had no choice but to use the weapons they had been given and turn it on their most highly praised soilders in the nation therefore the infamous"Fall of the Samurai" was the first war that the newly formed empire had to do. The Emperor instead of calling them traitors or scum, decied to honor them and give them a proper Japanese funeral in their honor. Emperor Tensai called them"True heroes of their faith and tradition and the greatest example of any citizen of Japan should insipre to".

The son of Emperor Tensai,Tuhiku, wanted to show the world that Japan can stand on its own in the world and does not need all the help of the European powers to do it. Tuhiku had made Japan break free from the European influence but did not break off ties as the Tuhiku, like his father, was freindly towards Europe but wanted to make Japan a indepented and true superpower. The first war was aganist the Chinese Empire as it had control over the Korean Penisula as the Japanese army stormed the Penisula and overpowered the chinese forces. The Chinese forces where pushed back until the Japanese forces had met the Chinese larger army, though not as advance as Japanese, The battle was a stalemate and a truce was settled as Korea and the Chinese coastline was given to Japan.

The Emprie expanded into Taiwan,Microneasia,Solomon Islands,Polyneasia, and Melanesia(excpet Papua New Guinea) by the use of a powerful navy, airforce, and island-hopping techinuqes. The Japan Empire has now solidfy itself in the world has a superpower for its large navy and airforce. Japan is always trading with Europe and America though tensions between Japan and China are getting high again, but many people are trying to esablish some kind of peace between the two.
Land: Japan, Upper China(same historical holding as the normal Empire of Japan had),Korea,Taiwan,Solomen Islands,Microneasia,Polyneasia,Melanesia(excpet Papua New Guinea)

History of Nation

“ We start our story during the reign Of Henry IV the famous man behind the saying “ Paris is worth a mass” in this case he became France's first non catholic king by signing the Anti-Papal declaration and seperating the French from Catholicism but not entirely to the side of Protestant side which was viewed as a mob ruled christian faction. The Gallican church was formed by him and soon it spread to take over France with 100 years. For the most part history remained integrally normal until 1789 when the madness of the French revolution took over, but to the dismay of many of the Republican factions a republican government was not establishment but instead an authoritarian one whose rule was brutal and was almost overthrown by the French anti-Revolutionary forces in the French civil war. The forces of the Revolution won backing into power the general Napoleon, who established a constitutional authoritarian democracy in the form of an Empire and launched Europe into the madness of war after a few years under his rule. Napoleon was overthrown near the end and hung by forces of the exiled French monarchy who quickly established control over France in an event known as the “ Grand Restoration” in which the French Charter of 1815 was drafted forcing France back into the Ancien Regime however with a modernized legislature, court system, executive system, and bill of rights mainly to prevent the madness of 1789 from occuring again. Unfortunately now for the supporters of the previous administration, the monarchy took their revenge. The terror of 1815 began as militias hanged, maimed, tarred, and executed republicans and others. The French military ended a Republican uprising in Marseille and enacted a massacre outside Paris. In Rheims the peoples assembly was crushed as the violence ended. The 1820s and 1830s saw the Kingdom continue to thrive and reinforce the traditional system. The question over ending slavery became null to do the Grecian style of slavery that was adapted by France. In 1822 French run monarchy of Spain collapsed against the Portuguese Forces, France declared war on Portugal backing Spain only for the Spaniards to lose their Monarchy to a self styled Republic. The forces of France moved in occupying Spanish territory in the name of France. By 1826 the last of Spain fell as French forces moved towards Portugal who at the time were going bankrupt from the war. The Portuguese fell quickly mainly due to stagnation and horrendous losses from the Spanish campaigns. The 1840s brought the great shame through the Prussian war of aggression and the loss of Alsace-Lorraine, however it also brought them the invention of the Tank however it would need to be modified for it to be a success in a possible future war with Prussia. They expanded their colony of Algeria further into africa meanwhile in Siam they began plotting the overthrow of the local government and by 1847 they succeeded establishing the Royal colony of Siam expanding into loation and Cambodian territory by 1850. In 1852 the French Protection act was established enforcing French as the language of all areas, removing the ambassador of Prussia, Russia, and Austria from Paris, enacting a draft policy, and denouncing those of germanic and slav descent as lower Europeans. The 1860s became the time of expansion into Africa because of multiple wars against the various Berber states and African chiefdom. In 1862 Ernest Boulanger became Lord Minister of France enacting an almost authoritarian policy change making Prussia, Russia, and Austria enemies in the eyes of France and seeking Alliances with the Americans and British to counterbalance the power. The French look to Japan as equal power to the east mainly to counter the Russians. Meanwhile in terms of Government, Ernest has simplified French government
1. The Estates-General serves as legislature
2. Expanded powers of the Lord Minister
3. Minister of Finance
4. Minister of State
5. Minister of Defense
6. Minister of Agriculture
7. Minister of the Constabulary
8. Minister of the Royal Military
9. Minister of Infrastructure
10. Provincial authority
11. Minister of Foreign Affairs
12. Minister of the Royal Court
13. High Royal Council
14. Royal Court
France has become home to several philosophies since the rise of Boulanger, they include Divine Order a social take on of Divine rule, ( Divine order insists on social tradition but places emphasis on the ability to rise in the social sphere). Dueling is common in France, despite having died out in most of europe and all press is under state monitoring if not being controlled. Education for women has progressed very little in France mainly due to the Patriarchial grip in hold on France, Gallican convents and seminaries are however known to provide an excellent for those women who do seek it. Boulanger has created a public school system in France in order to equalize education though most oppose him. Industry in France is tightly controlled and often placed in the outer rim of cities to avoid the same problem plaguing British cities and to ensure a better & healthier populace. Today the French live out a somewhat despotic version of their dream hoping to punish the austrians, russians, and prussians while entertaining the ideas of an alliance with Japan, Britain, and the Americans, the economy is prospering as are the French but many hope that diplomacy not war will prevail over the Alsace-Lorraine situation but the Boulanger government seeks to constantly reinforce the ideals of revanchism into the French mindset.

" The French have a nifty system of recognizing the Prussians, Austrians, and Russians as lower Europeans while reinforcing the Italians, british, and French as higher Europeans" just kind of a fun insult toward the Prussian based alliance. Ironically France considers the Japanese as Europeans in Asia. As for Alsace-Lorraine, the French government recognizes it as theirs even electing a defacto government for it. Although the government is based in Picardy"

sum up of current situation.

Im borrowing the race/ ethnic classification system from Apartheid South Africa ( they actually classified the Japanese and Chinese as white and Latin Americans ie Cubans as Black people XD)

Nation Name: United Provinces of Zhonghua (Tourmaline Regime)

Government Type: Parlamentary Republic

Religion: Taoism and Buddism (the Constitution allows each province to choose its own official religion)

Leader name: Guardian Prince Jian Báihuā

Leader appearance: Guardian Prince Jian Báihuā

Population: 241.000.000

Military size: 11.000.000

History of nation:
In the beginning of the 19th century, China under the Qing Dynasty was facing a major political and social crisis. While the might of the Imperial Army had managed to preserve a certain modicum of stability, economic stagnation, bureaucratic corruption and isolationism had weakened the morale of the people and, along with it, the strength of the Jiaqing Emperor. And while the government desperately tried to prevent any further Western influence in Chinese culture, by 1810 many military families of non-Manchu descent had began to express increasingly harsh criticisms towards their monarch and the decadent aristocracy.

In 1811, with the war against the Coalition turning against them, the French government sent several envoys to China, hoping to manage an alliance with one of the world's largest military forces. While they managed to share much of the European philosphy and technology with many of the critical military families, the Emperor did not offer any assistance, and instead insisted on the preservation of Manchu isolationism.

Nevertheless, while the mission was a failure for the French, it served as the primordial spark of the rise of the Tourmaline Regime. The ideals of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Code inspired many military officers and noblemen, and the military technology acquired would eventually give them an upper hand over the obsolete Imperial Army. In the winter of 1813, sixty-three high-ranking officers of the Imperial Army signed the Pact for a Free Land, which advocated for an Empire-wide uprising against the regime of the Manchu, and the foundation of a new, legitimate Chinese government.

While this Pact was a secret affair, rumours did not take long to spread themselves amongst the Manchu aristocracy. Fear was quick to follow, pressing the Emperor to enforce increasingly oppressive measures. This did nothing but fuel the flames of discontent, as an increasing number of Chinese nobles and merchants began to endorse the Pact. In the years that followed, secret plans were made for a coordinated military coup.

The members of the Pact were finally spurred into action near the end of the year 1818, after the Emperor, driven by fears of a conspiracy against his rule, ordered several princes executed for treason, along with thousands of peasants.

During a dark, stormy night, a young Chinese general of the Imperial Army, called Yun Báihuā, led a force of ten thousand soldiers, armed with imported French weaponry and Chinese-made replicas, into the Forbidden City. During the battle against the palace's guards, Yun Báihuā and several nobles, secret members of the Pact, cornered the Jiaqing Emperor in his private chambers and murdered him. The Emperor's corpse, along with those of his most trusted officers and advisors, were then hanged from the outer walls of the Forbidden City, along with a banner reading 满族的噩梦已经走到了尽头 我们现在清醒 ("The Manchu nightmare has come to an end. We are now awake.").

The military coup in Beijing, which was received with enthusiasm by the people of the city, was soon followed by similar actions in Shanghai and Canton, where the forces of the Pact met little to no resistance. With the Emperor dead, and his highest ranking officers either dead along with him or aligned with the Pact, the loyalist forces were severely disorganized, and the southern coast of China fell quickly under the Pact's control.

However, a few remaining Manchu generals and nobles in the northeast and west parts of China eventually managed to form a large and strong resistance army. This resistance was quick enough to launch a powerful counterattack in the key provinces of Liaoning and Sichuan, slowing down the expansion of the Pact's influence into the country.

As the lines were drawn in this massive civil war, fifty-one of the sixty-three original leaders of the Pact for a Free Land met, in August of 1820, in the Palace of Heavenly Purity, with the sole objective, as the "provisional rulers of China", of drafting and sanctioning a Constitution.

After two weeks of debates, during which several local and foreign scholars participated, the fifty-one leaders finally voted unanimously in favor of the new regime's Constitution, and the foundation for a new country, the United Provinces of Zhonghua, to be born from the ashes of the dying Qing Dynasty.

Heavily inspired on the British, American and French constitutions, but also by Taoist and Buddist philosophy, the Constitution established an entirely new system of government. From then onwards, most of the legislative, executive and judiciary power would rest in the hands of provincial governments. In the national government, the legislative power would be represented by a bicameral Grand Assembly, with its members elected by the male Chinese citizens of the United Provinces, while the executive power would be exercised by a Grand Secretariat, its members chosen by the members of the Grand Assembly. At the same time, it promised the eventual creation of an independent judiciary, and lifted all laws that violated religious freedoms, international trade or free speech.

The members of the Pact sought to restore the culture and glory of the Ming Dynasty, while at the same time bring progress and liberty to a stagnant and decadent society that had forgotten its own history and traditions.

However, a separate document was also signed in this meeting. Called the Necessary Commandment of the Righteous Guardians, this "parallel constitution" established that, as long as the civil war against the Manchu continued, the Grand Assembly would only have advisory power, and they would not be allowed to elect a Grand Secretariat.

Instead, a provisional Council of Guardians, formed by the fifty-one leaders of the Revolution, would be installed in power and act both as an executive and legislative body, with the purpose of ensuring the security and stability of the United Provinces, as well as their victory over the Manchu Resistance.

The Council of Guardians would elect a Guardian Prince to lead and represent them until the end of the war, while the Grand Assembly would be called to vote every year, to rule whether the Council was still necessary, whether its rule had been effective, and whether their chosen Guardian Prince had been appropiate.

As the forces of the Tourmaline Regime, as it came to be called, secured their power in the east of the country, the Council of Guardians elected Yun Báihuā as the Guardian Prince of the United Provinces. Being a young and charismatic leader, the Council expected him to earn the favor of the people, both within the Regime's borders and outside of them.

Swiftly enough, Yun Báihuā had garnered much needed support from the populace, and he had also made a good impression on foreign merchants after officially legalizing the import of manufactured goods from Europe. The young general, an avid reader of Smith and Rousseau, opened up the ports of China, after centuries of isolation, and gleefully invited the great industrialists of Great Britain and Germany to invest in the United Provinces.

At the same time he achieved groundbreaking economic and technological progress, Yun Báihuā proved himself a capable and strong-willed commander, defeating the Manchu forces in Xi'an, and ending the siege of Beijing with few casualties.

However, despite the series of humilliating failures in battle, the morale of the resistance remained high, especially after Mianning, the Jiaqing Emperor's only living son and heir, officially became the leader of the resistance, establishing the Qing Restoration in Chengdu in 1821. This, along with much economic support received from Japan and France, levelled the playing field for the resistance.

Even though the forces under Yun Báihuā continued to gain territory in the northwest, the Regime's war for the southwestern provinces eventually reached a standstill. This, along with the Japanese invasion of Manchuria and an unexpected socialist rebellion in Mongolia, put a heavy weight on the shoulders of the Council of Guardians and Mianning, now known as the Daoguang Emperor. By the year 1829, neither the Tourmaline Regime nor the Qing Restoration were advancing any further, as the Chinese were forced to allocate troops to fight the socialist insurrection, and the Manchu fought an unwinnable war against the Japanese in Manchuria.

Fortunately, while the Qing Restoration was forced to surrender Manchuria to Japan, the Tourmaline Regime prospered. Industry flourished, and farming reached record levels of productivity thanks to the technologies introduced by foreign investors.

By the year 1850, the economy had recovered almost completely from the still raging war, and the United Provinces had become one of the world's greatest economic powers. Beijing became Asia's mightiest industrial center, and the Chinese Navy, after centuries of being ignored by the Imperial government, was restocked with the lastest, top-of-the line, British steam-powered warships, becoming a naval force capable of competing against the Japanese.

The army, in the meantime, was gifted with an entire fleet of German airships and airplanes, along with hundreds of landships. The elite forces of the United Provinces, stationed in the main urban centers and key provinces, were equipped with the latest weaponry, some of it imported from Germany, but most of it designed and produced by the recently born Yín Xīnzàng company, a weapons manufacturer funded with the wealth of willing Chinese noblemen and unwilling Manchu noblemen.

However, while Yun Báihuā have proven himself to be capable of defeating the mighty Manchu army and the stagnant Chinese economy, he was unable to defeat the ressentment of ambitious men.

In 1853, while vacationing in his home Jinan, Yun Báihuā was murdered. The assassination had been ordered by a member of the Council of Guardians, who had been regarded for years as the heir apparent to the title of Guardian Prince. The man's conspiracy, however, backfired. His schemes were discovered by the council, and he was swiftly executed, while Yun Báihuā became a martyr in the eyes of the people, boosting both his prestige, and that of his family.

With no other heir apparent for the title, the Council elected Yun Báihuā's son, the Navy captain Chu Báihuā, as Guardian Prince. The decision was met with mixed reactions. While most people agreed that the prestige of the Báihuā name was great, and that Chu Báihuā was a decent candidate, many feared that this would be the first step into the birth of a new monarchy.

Chu Báihuā's rule as Guardian Prince followed most of the same steps his father had taken, further promoting the industrialization of the controlled areas of China, and keeping the war at a standstill.

Perceiving weakness in the new Guardian Prince, the Xianfeng Emperor, successor to the Daoguang Emperor, launched a full-scale invasion of the United Provinces in 1855. However, his expectations of a swift victory were soon proven misguided, as the Qing Restoration's forces discovered themselves outnumbered and outgunned by the Tourmaline Regime and their technologically superior military. After three shameful defeats in Taiyuan, Wuhan and Guiyang, the Manchu forces were forced to retreat back into their own territory.

The thirteen years following this events were marked by relative stability, smaller economic growth, a massive financial crisis in 1864, and small military victories.

Then, in 1867, Chu Báihuā, having struggled against a severe case of tuberculosis for several weeks, announced that he would step down from the position of Guardian Prince. Believing that no other man could be entrusted with the legacy of his own father, Chu Báihuā personally recommended his own son, the twenty-year-old Jian Báihuā, as the next Guardian Prince.

This recommendation was met with outrage amongst several members of the Grand Assembly and the Council of Guardians, who considered that Jian Báihuā, the low-ranking commanding officer of the Jinan Scouts Division, was unfit to lead the United Provinces, let alone the bulk of the Chinese military. However, once again the Council of Guardians voted for the son of the Guardian Prince to succeed him, and the decision was barely ratified by the Grand Assembly a month later.

Three years later...

With his father and predecessor dead after months of fighting his disease, Jian Báihuā has taken his first few lonely steps into the Regime's young, yet vibrant political scene. With the wholehearted endorsement and wise advise of the Council of Guardians, Jian Báihuā has pushed for further political and social reforms, targetted at mimicking the European and American examples, while at the same time encouraging the rebirth of ancient traditions.

At the same time, he has entered into official diplomatic relations with several European powers, and new markets for China's products have been secured, thanks to his trade deals with Chile, Peru, Colombia and Mexico.

Small victories and defensive strategies are still the law of the land in the endless war against the Qing Restoration. However, many proposals for a final campaign to unify China once and for all have arisen, and hopes that China may be rid of its Manchu oppressors are once again high.

However, all of these achievements are small when compared to Jian Báihuā's dream. This dream is the dream of his father, his grandfather, and that of the Council of Guardians as well.

The dream, put quite simply, is to finally drive the Japanese out of their land, and then to lead the United Provinces into its final crusade to become a world power as great as the Western empires.

Nation Name: Ireland

Religion: Roman Catholic
Leader name: President Timothy Finnegan
Leader appearance: http://hartonginternational.files.wordp ... g_2909.jpg
Population: 8 million
Military size: 5% (400,000)
History of nation: In 1823 the Irish rebels rose in great numbers once more. They did not know whether it would be another 1798 or they would finally push the British from Ireland. The rebellion coincided with the defeat of the British, in India, and, as the British were weakened by reparations, the rebels made good ground. By late 1823 the Prussians had begun to send weaponry to the Irish rebels and the revolution swung in their favour more greatly. God-willing the Irish prevailed and set up their own government.

The Republic of Ireland was not recognised as the British as an independent country so fighting between the Irish and British continued into the early 1830s. Fighting was incredibly fierce between the Separatist and Loyalist Irish. The British were supplying the Loyalists with weaponry and the Republican Army began to use guerrilla tactics and propaganda to win the minds of the people.

With this the revolution grew ever larger and 1832 the British had been pushed into Northern Ireland and there a peace treaty was negotiated. However parts of the Loyalist and Separatist armies refused to acknowledge the peace treaty until either side had surrendered and to this day they try to disrupt the feeble agreement.

As the British were forced out of Ireland the prospect of poverty and famine were meagre. No longer were the people being squeezed of life. The Irish government focused on the agricultural industry. The government introduced a four-cycle crop rotation to reduce the risk of food shortages and emigration due to poverty.

To this day Ireland is seen as a young country, although the Irish themselves believe their beloved Green was never conquered. They remain secluded from external politics as the Irish government has domestic problems. However, they try their past to sign trade agreements and to come under the protective wing of powerful nations.
