So I can see how some people just get attached to where they are.

Though he's going to be in San Diego, so I can completely understand why he'd want to stay.

As for me, I moved from SoCal to western New York. Even though there's been that whole culture shock thing (also, seriously, what is with the East Coast and booze laws?), it's been interesting. I still want to move back to Irvine when I'm done with grad school - because I get baseball, hockey, swing dancing, sunshine, and actual earthquakes that require earthquake engineering happen there - but after being in Minneapolis/St. Paul for a little bit, I don't think I would mind living there, either.

San Diego was my hometown. I live in Los Angeles now, and (earthquake possibilities aside), I absolutely adore it. When I was in Wisconsin, though, everyone would always talk about going to the Twins for fun, so I'd certainly check that out if given the chance.

The 4.5M earthquake this week somehow made headlines.

The person that wrote the story must be from out of state.

I was born there and spent the first 14 years of my life in Manhattan. I was just old enough to remember Times Square being full of peep shows. Honestly, I think the think that keeps most people attached to new york is the fact that every possible cultural experience is in walking distance. If you're living in Houston, it's hats, boots and pigs all day long.

Its not like the rest of the world is any better. Its more or less the same across the first world. Every country has its good points and bad points but is living in Europe that much different than living here?

I'm not from New York, and in fact I'm not even from America, and I can suggest a possible reason:

It's because New York is fucking awesome.

As an inhabitant of Mainland New York, I find the idea of moving to the city personally abhorrent.

I recommended to several of my colleges who did not have offers currently that they look at employment opportunities farther south and west. The local government jobs if you can get them are paying less than is available in lower cost of living markets, and since there is an over abundance of lawyers the city has a habit of getting freshly minted attorneys to work for free for a year or two, before deciding not to hire them.

New Yorkers are so attached to New York because they live there.

FUCK ISRAEL! I support peace, therefore I stand with Palestine. I want a bi-national solution, a state in which Jews and Palestinians can coexist peacefully. The onus is on Israel to stop this - it can do it anytime by bringing a ceasefire and ending apartheid.

On paper yes, once you account for cost of living not so much.

124,000 in New York city is worth the same as 50,000 in Houston Texas.
http://realestate.aol.com/blog/2013/02/ ... york-city/

180,000 ( a New York top law firm associate pay check) is worth about 80,000 in Houston Texas.

I would say right now, Dallas is the best market to be a new lawyer, Big Law associate pay is about 160,000 and the cost of living is small.

Also for the more daring, work in North Dakota relating to mineral rights and commodities trading is paying around 180,000, thanks to the oil boom.

Because it's... their home? It's funny because you answered your own question IN THE TITLE. They are attached to their home... because it's their f***ing home. Like... I just... I'm not being sarcastic, I just have no idea what else I could possibly say besides that. Cheers.
