China and Japan one step closer to war

Postby Gig em Aggies » Mon Feb 18, 2013 2:16 pm

http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/asia-pacific/china/130111/china-japan-war-senkaku-fighter-planes

I just dont know what to say "not feeling to well."
from the looks of what i read in the story it feels like the same situation Syria and Israel are in. Both China and Japan are US allies but they really dont like each other. I feel like this matter will be resolved without a war neither side wants. I can think of situations that are similar besides this one and Syria & Israel, South Korea and North Korea both claim an island that has seen some skirishes last year, Britain and Argentina with dispute over The Falkland Islands.

So do you think that a war could break between china and japan either big or small?

please tell thoughts.

P.S.: in the article it state's that the US even with a mutual agreement treaty of somekind with japan the US states it will be very unlikley for it to hop on the bandwagon if a war broke out between the two asian nations.

I am positive that both sides realize nothing good can come of actual war.

China is not a US ally, it supports North Korea and is big enough to be considered a rival to the US in its own right; that is militarily almost on par with Russia. In the unlikely event that war breaks out between China and Japan, I am entirely on Japan's side. The Senkaku Islands is Japanese territory which is currently administered by Japan, China has no right to the land.

No they're mortal enemies. All that US debt and investment means absolutely nothing to the Politburo. ;)

The Republic of China (Taiwan) and the PRC (mainland China) both claim the Daioyu islands. Japan calls them the Senkaku islands.

Taiwan is a US allie. So the OP must be talking about Taiwan.

Those islands really belong to the Chinese which is something the PRC and Taiwan agree with.

Edit - The article the OP place in his first post seems to be about the PRC and Japan. But everyone needs to remember that Taiwan also claims those islands.

No need to hope. I can personally guarantee it. Both Japan and China alone are economically interdependent, add in the USA who is HEAVILY connected to China and you've just created a solid base to prevent any further escalation. All sides know this, but 'saving face' is important in Asian culture.

China and Japan are not going to war, because that would mean China and the US would go to war. China and the US are nuclear powers, and there's a good reason we haven't had a major war between world powers since 1945.

That and China's economy is sort of dependent on the US.

ur under the false impression that China wont start shit because US has nukes. Like you mentioned CHINA has nukes too. China might bank on the notion that USA wouldnt dare start a nuclear holocaust and nuke Japan.

Remember, Nukes are a political "Do-wtf-I-want" trump card.

No, nuke are a political "Don't fuck with my people and you live" card. The only nation that really uses it as a do what I want card is Israel. The US doesn't need to.

To note, China won't go to war because any war with a US ally will damage it's trade. Severely.

They are allies. Their bilateral relationship in terms of economics and politics is the most significant in the world. The yanks might not like their political system but when has that ever stopped them?

Having trade relations does not an ally make. By that logic the USSR and the USA were allies throughout the Cold War. Oh and Venezuela is also an ally of the USA.

Us and Japan have been hating on each others' guts ever since the Sino-Japanese conflict, nothing much to note here. Both sides of the Korean border both share a similar view to Japan as we do, though I'm not sure if this is either a general consensus or pockets of extremists.

Why are asians so xenophobic ;_;
