World Cup 64 bid - Valanora & Yesopalitha

Postby Valanora » Sat Feb 09, 2013 8:43 pm

*insert cool bid logo here when made*

Who is attempting this?
Valanora & Yesopalitha are combining their efforts to bring forth to you, the NSSport community a bid for upcoming Sixty-Forth edition of the World Cup.

What should it be like?
The format of the qualifiers will ultimately be determined by the final sign up numbers, but the preferred amount of groups are 15 and 20. Two legged playoffs will be the method used if the amount of groups dictate that a playoff be needed. The Finals will be the traditional 32 teams with 4 teams in 8 groups, with the top two in each group advancing to the knock out rounds. In the event that teams end on the same amount of points, the following tie breakers will be used in order until the tie is resolved: Goal Difference, Head to Head results (Points-Wins-GD-GF), Wins, Goals For.

How are you going to do it?
If elected as hosts, we will be using the scorinator program NSFS 3.0.1a. A cumulative RP bonus will be in place, as well as a bonus for every nation that posts a roster, which will be reset at the conclusion of qualifying.

As a side note, if elected hosts, I personally will be doing a double scorination with SQIS using xkoranate, for comparative purposes, which would be released upon the end of the tournament.

Experience in events like this before?
Expierence is a key point of this bid, as both nations have hosted multiple WCC events, though this would be Yesopalitha's first venture as a World Cup host. Both nations also have numerous experience as hosts of multiple non-WCC tournaments, such as the World Cup of Hockey, Cup of Harmony, and regional tournaments, in addition to lengthy runs of scorinating domestic leagues.

This is a good bid but I do have one query: How will RPs be graded?

The RP bonus formula and grading is generally not released in the bid thread.

Will you be incorporating any extras in the competition such as the inclusion of referees or little RP additions like Wight/NMS used in CoH 54?

With 182/3 teams signed up for the WC right now, and bids about to go up for vote, are you guys willing to narrow down your preferred format, including playoffs, etc? And if so, what is it?

@ Apox, it is certainly within the realm of possibilities and will probably happen on some matchdays but definitely not all. As for referees, we will not be assigning refs, but will link one of the referee threads for others to use at their own leisure.

With the signups reaching 182 teams, thats going to be are cutoff point, as numbers beyond that are difficult to use. Right now the choice is either between 30 groups of 6 or 15 groups of 12, with a preference of the 30 groups for a smaller qualification cycle. Nations beyond the 182nd will not be guaranteed a place in the cup and will be subject to others withdrawing/CTEing before the start of the BoF. To reach those numbers, we will start trimming those last signed up with a preference of puppets over new nations, unless they are established long term puppets (ie been involved in 3 or more cycles.)

Pointed follow-up: choosing between 15 groups of 12 and 30 groups of 6 is a big difference. Granted, preferences are nice, but is there any chance you'll be decisive before we get a chance to cast our votes, or shall you choose to waffle? If the former, which way will you go?

I will admit, I generally do like waffles...

EDIT: As my follow-up is quite pointed, I'd be remiss in the very least in not commending this bid for making a hard decision to lock down the field now. Regardless of how I feel about said move, it's something that folks are reluctant to stick to their guns on, and should be commended when it's done in a reasonable manner, IMO.

If having to make a choice now, it would be 30 groups of 6. It's been too many years since we've had a qualifying cycle that was not a marathon.

Much appreciated. Unique formats are certainly unique.

I would love a shorter qualifying campaign than as the mammoth last one felt a bit much, and I must admit, the Qualifying for WC 62, which was the shortest qualifying to date was my favourite, and therefore, you have my vote! (not that Wight and NMS couldn't do a fantastic job, I'd be fine with either bid winning, incredibly difficult to choose this WC!)
