Derscon wrote:Your compass results suggest otherwise. That, and your icon is of the Democratic Party, and everyone knows communists hate freedom.

No one should ever have to explain this, but the Democratic Party isn't Communist.

You don't have to like the Democrats, but "Communist" has specific meanings, which the Democratic Party in the US do not fit. Not even close. Please use the correct terms if you want to be taken seriously. To be frank, you could call the Democrats two-headed alien chimpanzees and it would have comparable validity to calling them Communists.

Note, I acknowledge the possibility that you are joking, and I hope this is the case. Sarcasm can be difficulty to recognize, however, and there are enough people that take the above sort of nonsense seriously for me to guess that you probably do to.

When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

No he wasn't. He favoured state intervention in the market. He was centre-left.

It is erroneous to equate "state intevention in the market" with leftist philosophy.

It clearly is. In fact it was blatant sarcasm, some of the most blindingly obvious I've seen on NSG.

It typically does manifest itself in a leftist manner, because the intervention typically takes the form of redistributing wealth from the rich to the poor. However, state intervention in the economy that redistributes wealth from the poor to the rich would not be consistent with leftist philosophy.

Maybe its the fact that I am seriously sleep-deprived right now. But I think you will acknowledge that, as sad as it is, there are probably quite a few people who really do sincerely believe that Democrats are Communists.

How the hell do you get wealth redistribution from the poor to the rich? Generally, the rich are few, so the poor, being a majority keeps voting for this wealth redistribution. In their favor of course.
