You're the resident RSR MG expert...

Would the Robinson's shrinkage/weight reduction ability be able to be scaled down to .338 and up to 15.5mm?

This seems the place to ask questions about rifles. I'm looking at two slightly different standard-issue rifles for my armed forces. They're really similar but one is a battle rifle and the other is an assault rifle. Which is best as a standard-issue weapon?

(If you want specifics, the two rifles are the SCAR-L and the SCAR-H, though I'm also looking at the HK416 and HK417).

Supposedly, according to NSD, it wasn't even that remarkable.
It was good for reducing the recoil, but not the overall system weight.

Depends on the terrain/doctrine of your armed forces.

L/6 = closer range, more ammunition carried.
H/7 = Longer range, less ammunition carried.

Unconventional, but workable.
See TKB-011 and TKB-408.

Indeed, my bullpup was intended to be a 7.62mm AK with a length only a few millimeters longer than that of the AKS-74U. Would be a specialist weapon that, while being perhaps difficult to adjust to inserting the magazine, would be very easy to maintain and operate.

OK, so I could use the L/6 as a standard-issue rifle and then have the H/7 as a DMR issued to one man per squad?

I, personally, would recommend either the 5.56 variant of the SCAR-H or just the 416.

There's a 5.56 version of the H? What makes that different from the L?

It is the SCAR L.

No, it's not.
Although, I made a mistake. I am not sure whether the variant exists yet, but it likely would be better than the SCAR-L.

I believe so. It can certainly be scaled up to 26mm, at any rate. Also, as per discussion on NSD, .358 Norma Magnum/.350 Rem Mag are better MMG calibres.
Samozaryadnyastan wrote:Supposedly, according to NSD, it wasn't even that remarkable.

Well, it was good for that too. The ground version was just not as light as the aircraft version. The ground version weighed about 3kg more than the XM806, and I'm sure that using a lighter barrel and relying on changing the barrels for sustained fire, you could cut those extra kilos off.

^_^

Also, as F/NI is technically an IC forum, does that mean that this thread is technically some massive live-stream/video-conference between our nation's Armourer Generals (or whoever is responsible for procuring/researching new weaponry in your nation)?
