Seems rather odd to me.

Which is that odd?

It's glaringly odd.

According to "Survery Research and Self-Defence Gun Use: An Explanation of Extreme Overestimates", "K-G report that 207,000 times per year the gun defender thought he wounded or killed the offender. However, only about 100,000 people are treated in emergency rooms each year for non-fatal firearm-related injuries; almost all of these are victims of assault, suicide attempts and unintentional gun shootings rather than criminals shot by defenders."

Yeah, sorry about that. Getting a bit pissed about how unreasonable and ridiculous some people can be and I let it effect my posting. Obviously I don't hope I can shoot the guy. I just wish I could get through that hard head.

You don't realize that I'm being sarcastic. I keep my weapon so far away from my front door that I would literally have to have retreated through every room and chokepoint to shoot... and it's kept unloaded with the ammo separate and both in lockboxes. Although I would predict that I would pick up anything at hand to stop an intruder before that happens, there is no doubt that I am prepared to use it should that eventuality happen. I do not claim to be a badass. Protecting yourself and family is not badass. It's what a reasonable head of a family must do.

All I'm worried about is that she'll end up shooting a random visitor who's probably just handing our fliers for some event or something, or perhaps taking a public survey of opinions for a proposition/petition. That would be a damn shame.

Just to be clear, I'm not against gun-ownership (I'm planning to purchase several fine pieces). I'm just against turning to guns as the solution to a break-in. Guns should be your last resort, not the first thing you turn to when someone breaches your house. Turning to a gun means the intent to kill, and as I've been robbed twice, I can say that I've never had the intent to kill someone. Stop them, yes, but the police reports indicated that I could've done so with my baseball bat or with a golf club since neither of my intruders had been heavily armed.

As to the timing: I was assuming that she hid after she saw him breaking in with a crowbar. Since, you know, it would be difficult for her to see him from her office window after she went and hid in the attic crawl space. But I guess maybe I shouldn't assume as much. Perhaps she has x-ray vision or somethng?

No, the police arrive, check for evidence, and see if they can find the criminal wthout potentially killing them. If you think the only way to stop a criminal is by placing them at death's door, well...fuck me.

Also, I gave up on the 'don't let people in' rule when I was 10 or so, and still haven't had my head bashed in by a criminal. Neither has anyone I know, for that matter (well, they've been burgled, but when they're out of the house).

What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Even that didn't incapacitate him. He managed to get in his car and drive away before crashing off into some poor lad's driveway.

There was once a rule of double-tap, where you'd fire two shots in quick succession within center mass to stop the victim. With the increasing number of people on medical substances, however, law enforcement quickly shifted from the double-tap method to shooting enough shots to incapacitate the assaulting individual.
