I got this in an email

Postby Vanishing_shame » Tue May 12, 2009 6:43 pm

thought u guys might enjoy it.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do :

The elbow is the strongest point

on your body.

If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide.

If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse,

DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM.

Toss it away from you.....

Chances are that he is more interested

in your wallet and/or purse than you,

and he will go for the wallet/purse..

RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car,

kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole

and start waving like crazy.

The driver won't see you, but everybody else will.

This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars

after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit

(doing their chequebook, or making a list, etc.

DON'T DO THIS!)

The predator will be watching you, and this

is the perfect opportunity for him to get in

on the passenger side, put a gun to your head,

and tell you where to go.

AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR ,

LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

If someone

is in the car

with a gun

to your head

DO NOT DRIVE OFF,

Repeat:

DO NOT DRIVE OFF!

Instead gun the engine

and speed into anything, wrecking the car.

Your Air Bag will save you.

If the person is in the back seat

they will get the worst of it .

As soon as the car crashes

bail out and run.

It is better than having them find your body

in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting

into your car in a parking lot,

or parking garage:

A.) Be aware:

look around you,

look into your car,

at the passenger side floor ,

and in the back seat

B.) If you are parked next to a big van,

enter your car from the passenger door.

Most serial killers attack their victims

by pulling them into their vans while the women

are attempting to get into their cars.

C.) Look at the car

parked on the driver's side of your vehicle,

and the passenger side... If a male is sitting alone

in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back

into the mall, or work, and get a

guard/policeman to walk you back out.

IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator

instead of the stairs.

Stairwells are horrible places to be alone

and the perfect crime spot.

This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun

and you are not under his control,

ALWAYS RUN!

The predator will only hit you (a running target)

4 in 100 times; and even then,

it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ.

RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying

to be sympathetic:

STOP

It may get you raped, or killed.

Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking,

well educated man, who ALWAYS played

on the sympathies of unsuspecting women.

He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often

asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle,

which is when he abducted
his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point:

Someone just told me that her friend heard

a crying baby on her porch the night before last,

and she called the police because it was late

and she thought it was weird. The police told her

'Whatever you do, DO NOT

open the door.'

The lady then said that it sounded like the baby

had crawled near a window, and she was worried

that it would crawl to the street and get run over.

The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way,

whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.'

He told her that they think a serial killer

has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax

women out of their homes thinking that someone

dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it,

but have had several calls by women saying that

they hear baby's cries outside their doors

when they're home alone at night.

10. Water scam!

If you wake up in the middle
of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a
burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your
outside taps full ball so that you will go out to investigate and
then attack.

Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbors!

Please pass this on.....

This e-mail should probably be taken seriously because

the Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on

America 's Most Wanted when they profiled

the serial killer in Louisiana

did u get any improtant emails today?

is any of this true? i thought u were supposed to headbutt people not elbow them :?:

The Crying Baby thing sounds like an urban legend, but it might be a tactic tried by one predator.

The opening taps thing sounds like an urban legend too, or else a trick that amateur criminals might try. Professional criminals are either burglars who don't want to bring any attention to themselves at all and probably will not enter the house unless it's empty anyway, or else they are invader/attackers who want you inside the house where they can control you, not outside it where you have room to run. Neither group, if serious, would want to do something bizarre that could also draw the attention of the neighbors.

The rest is legit. I have heard such advice many times from police community safety officers. Most of those are directed to women, but they are just as applicable to men. You want to be aware of your surroundings and recognize places that would be very convenient for robbery ("mugatoriums" is what I call structures like parking garages). You want to know who is around you. You want to move through potentially dangerous areas as if you have a purpose. Don't dawdle or waffle. Do not fear to make eye contact. Take note of available exits. If an attacker does not have control of your movements, then MOVE -- get away. If an attacker does have control of your movements, then DO NOT MOVE. Do not cooperate. Do not let the attacker isolate you more.

I know from personal experience and the testimony of friends who have been mugged that the advice to throw your stuff down and back away from it fast works. People have avoided violence that way, if only because it splits the mugger's attention long enough for you to run.

And I think the elbow is a better weapon than the head because you can hurt yourself headbutting someone. Remember their skull is just as hard as yours, and yours is just as full of soft, vulnerable brain as theirs. Your elbow, however, is a lot harder than any skull and has nothing inside it that could kill you if it gets too banged up. The elbow is even better than the knee -- as in smashing the nads -- because let's say you do hurt the joint by using it as a weapon. You don't need your elbow to run away.

EDIT: Oh, and the locked in the trunk thing -- that sounds like old advice that is now becoming urban legend. Most current car models have release latches INSIDE the trunk because of some accidents where children got locked in trunks and suffered heat stroke or other injuries. Now, you can either open the trunk to get out of the vehicle, or open the back seat to get into the main body of the car from the trunk.

When I read this things I'm so grateful I live in Singapore. This kind of things never happen. I can walk alone with my girlfriend on the streets late at night and nothing will happen but always better safe than sorry =D

The reason to give vans extra attention is that you cannot see inside them to see if there's anyone there. One should view vans and cars with heavily tinted windows with the same caution. But actually, the whole list reads like something someone lifted off someone else's blog, and the original list was compiled by some ordinary person, not taken directly from a police or professional security source. It mixes good advice with urban legends and outdated advice.

I believe Singapore has problems of its own. As you say, better safe than sorry, and basic security precautions should be followed regardless of where you are. I look at it this way -- if the area could be dangerous for car accidents, fire, wild animal attacks, or anything else, then the same basic precautions we use for street crime will serve us just as well -- paying attention, noting the exit routes, not letting yourself get boxed in, not overloading yourself with too much inconvenient baggage, checking out blind spots before going into an area, etc. It's basic common sense not to just assume nothing is going to happen to you so you can feel free to lurch along blindly.

Would anyone actually remember to do all this in a situation like that? I think most people would just panic if they got attacked by a serial killer or something. At least the first couple of times. <.<

What you have to do, is visualize these scenarios in your mind over and over, so that your body reacts instinctively when presented with dangerous situations. This is how I trained my men prior to hitting the sand box.

I know this is grave digging, but I just wanted to bump this so that everyone would read it instead of digging back so many pages. Mods, I don't mean to spam or cause trouble, just trying to help the NSG community.

I...what? Why did you feel this needed to be bumped up so people could read it? [/rhetorical question]

Considering its a minor offense, but you knew you were committing it, have an unofficial warning for grave digging. Next offense will be an official warning.
