I assume since you're using "I" without the signature of a head of state or representative of your roleplayed government, that your question was an OOC (out-of-character) question instead of an IC (In-Character) question.

The answer to your question is a simple one: just like in real life I roleplay the Yohannesian government as having multiple agendas in NationStates. Things such as 'neutrality', 'peaceful', 'undemocratic' should never be taken at full-face value, and the same will go for Hippostania's IC government as well.

Just like in real life, its all about politics and hidden agendas (if there's any, of course).

According to the World Census, Hippostania is a politically free society; although, personal liberties are limited. Hippostania's renewal of this act, in my opinion, is no more egregious than the prohibitions on fascist parties in much of real-world continental Europe.

The Most Holy and Grand Empire of Christian Democrats also bans anti-democratic organizations. Revolutionary socialism, anarchism, and fascism, for example, are prohibited by law. A communist party, for instance, would be unable to participate in elections. A social democratic party, on the other hand, would be eligible to participate since it is willing to work within the democratic process. Right now, the second largest party in my country is the left-wing Progressive Party.

OOC:

I don't feel the need to sign every statement that I make with a made-up name. Unless I specify that I am making an OOC statement, it should be assumed that what I am typing is coming from a representative of my government. I do not believe that it is unacceptable to use "I" in a roleplay forum since it seems obvious, in my opinion, that I am pretending to be a representative of my government.

I realize that roleplays are disconnected in many ways from game-side issues and statistics; although, I still think the World Census ratings are a good indication of the general views of a government. Populations, tax rates, and similar statistics, on the other hand, usually should be ignored.

I admit that I do not frequent the diplomacy forums. I guess we World Assembly roleplayers are a little looser with our roleplaying since most of us usually do not sign each and every post that we make; although, almost all of our posts are in-character. This is always the assumption.

Le Federau

Today Hippostania said it will renew a bill against Communists of which it claims are against ''malicious'' groups within the nation. However, as shown by Parliament earlier today, they stated ''they are not amused and know of the nation's past.'' It was stated in the newspaper ''Jorne de Iulia'' that ''The Democracy of Hippostania is a joke, and that the government is more of a Hippocracy than a Democracy.'' Hippostanya is a nation inside of Pardes the very same region that Pravengria resides, and has long been completely opposite in views since one can remember.

After Yohannes, a well known ally and friend of Pravengria stated that it would cut all ties with Hippostania. Saxonopl' has decided that it may do the same. Currently Parliament is discussing their next method of action, and pushing fora bill to deny all citizens of Hippostania from entering the country and declaring that any Pravene nationals who travel to the country will have their passports revoked and be denied access back into the country.

With tensions already high in Pardes do to the CDI, Triumverate, and the Ralkovian Conflict, Hippostania seems to seek further to destabilize the region. It is known that recently, Tehraan and the Hegemonic Union have been butting heads with Pravengria and other nations in Pardes as well with Organizations like ICE. While in the same Tehraan, Estovakiva and Pravengria have been butting heads with the CDI over defense of the Central ocean. And with tensions searing, the Mobilisation of more and more forces by the Pravene Royal Military has come to be of concern.

With a fleet moving to Ralkovia to assist a blockade and attack slave shipping, and another possible fleet movement to blockade the nation of Godly Nations for aggressiveness, Parliament is wondering if more activity in the Central ocean around Hippostania and other Hostile states will help stabilize the region some. The biggest concern for Pravengria is any form of war breaking out between other states, which inevitably would disrupt trade for the nation because it would have to divert routes to avoid conflict.

In the Alestei Doctrine, Saxonopl' made it clear that all though the Maritime straights in South-East Pardes are open to International trade lines, they are still in Maritime borders of Pravengria and the country will at any time if it feels it's trade, the nation or allies are threatened, it will close the straights to all maritime activity essentially causing a big hit to the Global Economy for nations that trade in Pardes. Pravengria feels it is in a tight spot since it seems to be the only one wanting stability and peace, and continues to try and stop hostilities. But yet neighbouring nation's seem to continue.

A Message from the Office of the President

To: Government of Hippostania
From: Cash Theodore Willows, President of the Constitutional Republic of East Klent
Subject: Opposition to SADIARA

Greetings Sirs and Madams,

As President of the Constitutional Republic of East Klent, I must declare my fears as to what the passage of a so-called "Anti-Communist Bill" would mean for the people of your nation. While I nor any other member of my administration support communism or any kind of extremism, I cannot condone or tolerate political oppression by a group that professes to be a government of the people, by the people, for the people. If such was true, there would be no need to have a law prohibiting a specific political belief.

Since our nation rebelled twice against Communist occupiers, we do understand the sentiment behind the bill; however, we the people of Klent hold dear our natural rights of free speech and press, and find any attempt by foreign governments to take those rights from their own people with suspicion and anger. We absolutely will not stand for such measures and so I personally implore you to not renew the Subversive and Dangerous Ideologies and Activities Restriction Act and to come out against the countries who encouraged the passage of the bill. If you do not, the Klentian government will take action at my direction.

I beg of you, ladies and gentlemen of the Hippostanian government, to reconsider your opinion and heed my warning, do not renew this unlawful act. If the majority of your populous disagree with communist ideals then you need not worry about the spread thereof if you do not pass this measure.

Start the New Year with a fresh start and open up the political spectrum to opposition; Hippostania might actually benefit more from the inclusion of all of her people in the national discussion than the exclusion of certain groups.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Signed,

To The Goverment of Hippostania, due to the fact that you are a WA Member State you have shown disregard with your bill for already passed WA Resoulutions such as General Assembly Resolution #27 which guarntees Freedom of Assembly which your SADIARA Bill violates as only Right Wing Partys are given said right

General Assembly Resoultion #30 which grants Freedom of Expression is also Vilolated by your ongoing SADIARA bill as only Right Wing Citizens are given said right

General Assembly Resoultion #43 whichn gives Workers the right to form unions is also violated as Hippostania does not have such right

General Assembly Resoultion #174 which protects citizens for to right to petition is also violated and a s such if you wish to be accepted by other Nations your goverment must change.

Parliament unanimously renews SADIARA as expected
Image
All 500 MP's voted for the renewal of SADIARA

WAVERLEY - Parliament of Hippostania renewed the Subversive Activities and Dangerous Ideologies and Activities Restriction Act in an extraordinary session held today at noon. The law, which was supported by all 500 MP's was renewed for 10 years, and it will be renewed again in 2023, when the law will celebrate its centennial. Following the announcement, a parades organized by the National Youth and the Home Guard were organized in major cities.

Despite opposition from several foreign nations and pressure from the World Assembly in their desperate last-ditch attempt to subjugate Hippostania under a worldwide socialist conspiracy, the MPs stood firm to defend Hippostania's sovereignty and our right to control our own internal affairs. The vote was a clear display unity of all Hippostanians in our never-ending fight against the ideology of red terror, an ideology so dangerous that it must be contained and fought with all possible means.

However, not all responses to the law were negative. Several nations including Zokoria, Luziyca, Isola degli Alberi, Christian Democrats, Prussia-Steinbach and Syleru, who stand together with Hippostania in our common fight against communism congratulated Hippostania for our firm and righteous decision to renew the bill. Hippostania has no need to interact with nations participating in a worldwide socialist conspiracy when we have friends and allies who are just as ready to defend their liberty and independence as we are.

In Waverley, renewal of the bill was celebrated with a concert where several well-known performers including Jennifer Calais and Neverseen attracted almost 200,000 people to Waverley Hall. Members from all political parties, from the Bourgeois Party and the National Democratic Party to the Social Liberal Party and United Green Party participated in the concert, united in their celebration against communism. Daily Herald met Sonja Wick, chairwoman of Waverley-Enfield branch of the Social Liberal Youth Front outside Waverley Hall after the concert. Wick thanked all participants for the amazing concert and thanked the legislators for renewing SADIARA. "SLYF and I might support left-wing ideals, but even we must realize that far-left ideologies like communism and socialism mustn't be tolerated in a free society. Hippostania has no place for far-left ideals and views", Wick commented.

To Hippostania:

While Vedastia finds Hippostania's opposition to communism admirable, it abhors the concept of taking freedoms away under the guise of their protection. Not only that, but the repression of opposing political ideologies gives the impression that the government in power is weak against them. Official HM Morridane Government Communique,

Having previously expressed its concerns at the planned renewal of Hippostania's Subversive Activities and Dangerous Ideologies and Activities Restriction Act, the Commonwealth of Morrdh is sorely disappointed that Hippostania has opted to renew such an undemocratic piece of legislation without even considering making an amendment to it. We feel very strongly that any country which considers itself a democratic nation should not restrict who their citizens can actually vote for.

It is the Commonwealth's view that Hippostania hides behind a false façade of democracy whilst at the same time being the tyranny that it claims to 'protect' its people from, even more so that the Act violates several World Assembly Resolutions that as a WA Member Hippostania had to abide by.

The Commonwealth of Morrdh hereby joins the growing number of nations condemning Hippostania and will be introducing trade sanctions against the Hippostanian Republic.

Signed,

Message from the State Council of the People's Republic of Falsea
Ministry of State, Desk of Minister Lara Hopkins

To: The Government of Hippostania
From: The Rt. Hon. Lara Hopkins, Minister of State
Encryption: Diplomatic
Date: January 1, 2013
Subject: Condemnation

To the Government of the Republic of Hippostania,

Greetings. Please allow me to introduce myself. I'am Lara Hopkins and as the newly appointed Minister of State of the People's Republic of Falsea, it is within my capacity to formally express the views of my represented country's government and people.

Bearing this in mind, the People's Republic officially condemns this hypocritical piece of legislature and sincerely hope that a repeal is immediately passed by the Parliament of Hippostania. Then again, considering these are the same members of parliament that refuse to open their eyes, our hopes for a repeal of this bill being passed is low.

My government would further like to point out, what is your evidence that communism in it's purest form is "undemocratic" and "tyrannical"?

I dare say that it is the Hippostanian Government that exemplifies these qualities. Furthermore, how does communism threaten your people's liberty and integrity? communism entails these two qualities as well, as an ideology that seeks to root out the dominance of the bourgeois and the oppression of man by man by eradicating economic, social, and political barriers.

We feel sorry for the people of Hippostania, all of whom are being brainwashed by the fallacious dogmas of their leaders and the National Party. We hope that the ideological vanguard of Marxism finally manifests itself in the form of a revolution by the oppressed workers, farmers, and other minorities within Hippostania, in which my own government would gladly support.

This goes without saying, but a full travel ban and embargo has been placed upon Hippostania by Falsea in response to this. Contact between our two nations shall be cut off and relegated instead to our ambassadors.

It is our hope that the government, nay, the people of Hippsotania soon turn away from this draconian law, abandon all hostility towards nations who prioritize equality over money, and establish a new order from which true democracy can blossom.

Best regards,

OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF NAMOR

To: Whoever it may concern on behalf of the Hippostanian government
From: Tzo To, Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Namorese People's Government would like to inform our Hippostanian counterparts that we officially condemn this so-called "renewal" of the "Subversive Activities and Dangerous Ideologies and Activities Restriction Act," which has banned leftism of all kinds in the Hippostanian Republic. As always, we have viewed "SADIARA" as a way to consolidate the power of the ruling National Party and impose an ultraconservative-inspired dictatorship over the people. We also find it unsurprisingly ridiculous is that all members of Hippostanian Parliament has agreed to renew SADIARA.

First off, we do not wish to deny the fact that the Hippostanians dislike leftism. All nations' peoples have a right to self-determination, and Hippostania is no exception; however, we would like to question the reason why the SADIARA was passed when the people do not support leftism. If communism is allowed in Hippostania and the people really do dislike it, then we here believe that the government would not need to fear, as the communist faction would not get a good place within the Parliament of yours. Banning ideologies shows that your nation does not have true elements of independence, freedom and democracy.

In conclusion, we stress that the People's Republic of Namor WILL NOT pursue any measures to stop the Hippostanian government from renewing this act, for that would be a violation of one's internal affairs, but please do know that a functioning true democracy needs both left and right.

Tzo To
Minister of Foreign Affairs

A separate communique was issued by the Government-in-exile of the Republic of Namor:

Image

The Republic of Namor Government hereby congratulates the Hippostanian government for passing this act that will ban the red menace from harming the Hippostanian people. Since 1923, Hippostania has been a true bastion of freedom and democracy, doing anything possible to fight off the red menace and to preserve the freedom of people all over the world. The Great Hippostanian Republic, along with the righteous Anti-Communism Alliance, has shown to the reds---as well as the reds occupying oru nation today---that their time will one day come. Let SADIARA guide the Hippostanian people to the ends of this Earth.

Allow me to quote SADIARA, which (thank God) was recently renewed by the Hippostanian Parliament:

[This act prohibits] attempts to bring about any political, industrial, social, or economic change or disturbance or disorder within the Republic by promoting Marxist socialism as interpreted by Lenin or Trotsky, or any related form of this doctrine including anarchism, syndicalism, national socialism, council communism, libertarian communism and also any doctrine that aims at bringing about a despotic system of government based on the dictatorship of the proletariat or any doctrine or plan aimed at promoting a spirit of hostility or disrespect towards the basic Hippostanian values of liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness.

The act does not outlaw democratic socialism or social democracy. It prohibits revolutionary socialism. The most common form of communism, a revolutionary socialist ideology, is Marxism-Leninism, which is explicitly banned by the act.

Marxism-Leninism, the most common form of communism, is certainly anti-democratic. Lenin (1919) writes:

History teaches that not a single oppressed class has ever come into power, or could come into power, without passing through the period of dictatorship, i.e., the conquest of political power and the violent suppression of the desperate, furious and unscrupulous resistance which the exploiters always put up. . . .

In explaining the class character of bourgeois civilisation, of bourgeois democracy and of bourgeois parliamentarism, all Socialists express the idea which was most scientifically expressed by Marx and Engels when they said that even the most democratic bourgeois republic is nothing more than a machine for the suppression of the working class by the bourgeoise, of the masses of the toilers by a handful of capitalists. . . . the revolutionary proletariat is in a state of ferment and motion, which are directed towards the destruction of the machine of oppression and towards the achievement of the proletarian dictatorship . . .

"The right of assembly" may be taken as an example of the demands of "pure democracy." Every class consious worker who has not broken connections with his class will understand at once that it would be absurd to promise the right of assembly to the exploiters . . .

"Freedom of the press" is another of the principal slogans of "pure democracy." Here, too, the workers know, and the Socialists of all countries have admitted a million times, that this freedom is a sham . . .

It would be very absurd to think that the most profound revolution in the history of mankind . . . could proceed within the old framework of the old bourgeois parliamentary democracy.

* From Theses and Report on Bourgeois Democracy and the Dictatorship of the Proletariat

We hope that your government will reconsider its position on this act. Communism is an anti-democratic ideology. It seeks armed insurrection against democratic governments so that a dictatorship, led by a vanguard party of "enlightened" individuals, can be established. This vanguard party, theoretically, governs for the benefit of the majority, which does not know what is best for itself according to the communists. At some point in the future, when the entire population has been thoroughly brainwashed, communism promises utopia. This is merely a fairy tale that is never materialized and that the communists never want to be actualized. Communism, at its core, seeks the centralization of power in the hands of the few under the guise of seeking utopia for the many.

On another note, our government approves of the ban on national socialism in this piece of legislation; although, we hope that the Hippostanian Parliament, at some point in the future, might consider rewording the act. Currently, the wording of the legislation seems to mistake national socialism as a Marxist ideology. National socialism, on the contrary, is opposed to Marxism. National socialism, or Nazism, is a syncretic ideology that seeks to combine left-wing state socialism, far-right ultranationalism, and ethnocentrism in a state that is ruled by an "enlightened" vanguard party for the benefit of a "master race" ("scientific" racism).

In Vetalia proper, reaction was favorable but muted; few Vetalians had leftist sympathies and even fewer had the resources to organize into any significant political party. Among the expatriate Vetalian community and government reactions were far more enthusiastic and positive given that it provided a solid footing for the development of further relations with Hippostania...and closer cooperation meant more trade and more income for all involved. The Vetalian Senate passed a resolution supportive of the legislation as its final legislative act of the 26th Congress, the text of which was delivered to the Vetalian Embassy and presented in letter form to the Republic of Hippostania on January 2, 2013:

Embassy of the Republic of Vetalia

On behalf of the Republic of Vetalia as presented in Senatorial Resolution 5328-26, approved by the Proconsular Council and signed effective by the Praetor of Vetalia as of December 31, 2012 we wish to extend our support for the renewal of the Subversive and Dangerous Ideologies and Activities Restriction Act and to reaffirm that the Republic of Vetalia will continue to fully cooperate with the Republic of Hippostania in enforcing the Act's provisions among Hippostanian nationals residing in Vetalian territory.

Furthermore, we wish to congratulate the Hippostanian people for their firm opposition to communist and socialist agitation and hope that the New Year will continue to bring us ample opportunities to develop close relations between our states.

Sincerely,
Ambassador Yuri Sedov

"Was it signed?" "No not yet. Townsend has yet to sign that thing. This time I fear that the bill could be used against the Lanosians in Hippostania given their opposition to such measures and they could be falsely framed for being communists, as per usual Hippostanian fascist radicalism, and we already received reports from the embassy of a few Lanosians disappearing or being arrested and sent off to God knows where..."

January 1, 2017
Green House, Keinsteinem National Capital District

Lanosians were well known for being against such measures as the Anti-Communist law even if they weren't leftists but this time things were worrying. They could be the target of Hippostanian measures to silence dissent even if they were radical fascists and that worried the Independent Nation. She may be on her way out of office but President Marina Aruthyan still had 19 days to go before she could leave. Aside from the usual lame-duck measures she could take, this matter was a serious one demanding some attention being applied. She only hoped that Townsend could be swayed. After meeting with her advisors, she wrote to the High Chancellor imploring he reformed the law before it could be used against the Lanosians. If that didn't work, a harsh measure would be applied, one that would make for some serious shit going down.

To the High Chancellor of Hippostania,
From President Marina Aruthyan of Lanos.

Colin,

You know of how the Independent Nation has reacted to the renewal of your law and how your press is terming our opposition to it a socialist conspiracy. However, the Lanosian state is not socialist nor communist yet we are targeted just the same for expressing our disappointment to it. We have 5 million Lanosians in your country and we must express our fear for them lest they become a target of radical fascism in your country, the sort that we feel is in force in Hippostania. We have received reports from our embassy that there are a few Lanosians missing (information about those missing attached) and could be the result of either your security forces taking them into imprisonment or being kidnapped by radicals in your country. We protest this occurrence most strongly as this is a violation of the 1991 Treaty Regarding the Re-Establishment of Relations between The Independent Nation of the Republic of Lanos and the Republic of Hippostania and other Related Matters, or the 1991 Agreement, when it comes to your government being required to protect Lanosians from persecution of all sorts, including on ideological and political matters, if we shall do the same of your peoples in our country. The Independent Nation has upheld its side of that specific provision since 1991 and we fear your side may not be holding up to your treaty obligations. We reserve the right, under the agreement, to apply sanctions against Hippostania accordingly if the Lanosians in Hippostania are free from persecution and all those missing be returned unharmed to their families. However, we also reserve the right to force you, under the agreement, to begin to pay for the years your country has supported the People's Republic of Lanos during the Civil War as we labeled Hippostania a state sponsor of terrorism during that time. We have continued to hold off forcing payments since the treaty's ratification in 1991 but if these measures are going to be applied to Lanosians, we shall have no other choice. I implore you to lighten up on the law or even demand its re-evaluation before we begin to take measures both sides will surely regret if push comes to shove.

Marina.

She only could hope Townsend had some voice of reason to listen to in his own mind.

Central Committee of JLP Votes to Keep Embassy in Hippostania Open:
Image
The Central Committee of the JLP voted
11-10-1 to keep the embassy in the Republic
of Hippostania open today.
UNOLIA-- In an emergency closed session of the Jahistic Libertarian Party's Central Committee, the Committee, against the ever guiding will of our beloved Chairman, Jarrod Thuman, voted to keep the Embassy in the Republic of Hippostania open. The vote was called for by the Chairman early today in response to the renewal of authoritarian legislation in Hippostania and was conducted via open ballot.

As expected, every member of the traitorous Hippostanian Conservative Faction (HCF) in the Party voted against closing the Embassy whilst the Pure Jahistic Faction (PJF) and Ryan Thuman, who is an independent, voted for closing the Embassy. The Honorable and missed General Hae Jae Bon, deceased but not yet replaced, obviously could take no part in the voting.

The result was a 11-10-1 against the closure of the embassy. This, of course comes after the Hippostanian Parliament vote unanimously 500-0 to renew the Subversive and Dangerous Ideologies and Activities Restriction Act, known as SADIARA. In Hippostania, by law, the renewal of the law must happen every ten years. The next time will be in 2023 (Jahistic year 2036), which will be the 100th anniversary of the law.

Chairman Jarrod Thuman commented on the law today saying "This law has no place in a free Hippostania. I can see the purpose for it, but propaganda is a much less violent way to expose the Red Menace and can prevent the deaths and arrests of innocents in the Republic of Hippostania."

In related news, in response to a potential condemnation of Hippostania in the World Assembly, the Central Committee voted unanimously to instruct the JUR's representative to vote "no" on any vote condemning Hippostania.

.:SAIDARA Bill passed in Hippostania:.

WAVERLEY, HIPPOSTANIA - Parliament of Hippostania renewed the Subversive Activities and Dangerous Ideologies and Activities Restriction Act in an extraordinary session held today at noon. The law, which was supported by all 500 of the proud nation's MP's, was renewed for 10 years, and it will be renewed again in 2023, when the law will celebrate its centennial. Following the announcement, a parades organized by the National Youth and the Home Guard were organized in some of Hippostania's major cities.

Despite opposition from several foreign nations and pressure from the World Assembly in their desperate last-ditch attempt to subjugate Hippostania under a worldwide socialist conspiracy, the Hippostanian MPs stood firm to defend Hippostania's sovereignty and their right to control their own internal affairs. The vote was a clear display unity of all Hippostanians in their never-ending fight against the ideology of red terror, an ideology so dangerous that it must be contained and fought with all possible means.

A powerful group of democratic and free nations including Zokoria, Luziyca, Isola degli Alberi, Christian Democrats, Prussia-Steinbach and Syleru, stood together with Hippostania in their common fight against communism congratulated the nation for their firm and righteous decision to renew the bill. The Syleruian government is taking the initiative and in future will take the same precautions our notable friend, the Republic of Hippostania, has taken.

In Waverley, the capital of Hippostania, renewal of the bill was celebrated with a concert where several well-known performers including Jennifer Calais and Neverseen attracted almost 200,000 people to the hall. Hippostanian government officials rejoiced and celebrated their big 'hit' against the red menace in the Hall. Similarly, Syleruian government officials celebrated the rid of communism and other varieties of the extremist red menace in their nation, and noted that the world was yet another step closer to rid of all forms of the communist plague. Aforementioned efforts will be taken within Syleruias in the near future, and the government encourages citizens to take a stand and do their part in the war against communism.

The various news channels flashed their logos on television screens across Klent bringing with the breaking news that the Parliament of Hippostania had unanimously renewed the Subversive Activities and Dangerous Ideologies and Activities Restriction Act, confirming the fears of Klentian leaders. Now the government was expected to take action, and many speculated that it would do so in the form of trade sanctions as other nations had done.

However, the new administration and new Congress had done the unexpected before, and so the country would have to wait and see...

"Good afternoon Klentians, I'm Paul Foster and this is a TNN special broadcast as we bring breaking news from Waverly, Hippostania where the Parliament has once again renewed the so-called "Anti-Communist Bill" against the wishes of many international leaders including President Willows who sent a personal communique to Hippostanian leaders yesterday encouraging them not to pass the measure. The Subversive Activities and Dangerous Ideologies and Activities Restriction Act, or SADIARA, is viewed by many in the international community as the unlawful oppressing of leftist political groups. Other leaders however commended the act as an achievement in freedom and democracy."

"Hippostania's own newspaper, The Daily Herald, called foreign opposition to the legislation a 'socialist conspiracy' which displays the bias that has dominated the Hippostanian media since SADIARA was originally passed in 1923. The Monarchy ruling Klent at the time supported the Hippostanian government and continued to do so every decade until President Morris Williams overthrew them in 1980, and as such Klent's official position on the matter was that of neutrality until President Willows sent his message the last day of 2012."

"The World Assembly, of which Hippostania is a member, is currently going through the process of approving a Security Council measure to condemn Hippostania because of several violations of General Assembly resolutions by this bill. As regional delegate for The Heartland, East Klent has the power to approve the measure. We have East Klent's Delegate the WA, Jarred Stevens with us via satellite from his office, good afternoon Delegate Stevens..."

STEVENS: "Good afternoon, Paul, and Happy New Year."
FOSTER: Happy New Year and thanks for being with us."
STEVENS: "I'm glad I could be here."
FOSTER: "Now, first off, you've obviously been in contact with the President, what does he want you to do in regards to the proposal?"
STEVENS: "Well, Paul, I can't tell you exactly what he said, but with his public admonishment of Hippostania yesterday, I can tell you that he didn't recommend not approving the measure."
FOSTER: "Since you are also the regional delegate, have you been in discussion with other WA ambassadors from Heartland nations?"
STEVENS: "Not yet, no, but I do plan on seeking counsel from them sometime today, and if the proposal does make it to the voting floor, I can tell you that I would vote in favor of it, but with one day and eighteen hours left for approval, it doesn't look like there'll be a chance for a vote.
FOSTER: "Delegate Stevens, you served in both the Western Cuban War and the Independence War, both of which you were fighting against communist forces; how do you personally feel about this issue?"
STEVENS: "While I don't agree with communism itself, I was fighting for freedom in those wars, the freedom to believe anything I wanted, and thus I find all laws prohibiting political freedoms abhorrent."
FOSTER: "So if it were up to you, you would approve and vote for the condemnation proposal?"
STEVENS: "I believe that's what I've said, yes."
FOSTER: "Yes, well, thank you for your input Delegate Stevens."
STEVENS: "I was more than happy to, Paul."

"If you're just now joining us, the five-hundred members of the Hippostanian Parliament unanimously voted to renew a piece of legislation known as the "Anti-Communist Bill" which has brought both admiration and skepticism form the nations of the world, resulting in high profile reactions and a Security Council proposal to condemn Hippostania, which, according to WA Delegate Jarred Stevens, Klent might approve."

"Congress and the President are expected to take some form of action in lieu of the renewal sometime today or tomorrow. This could lead to President Willows' largest international incident thus far in his presidency, but hopefully not. From TNN in the Capitol, this is Paul Foster signing off."

HIPPOSTANIA RENEWS "SAIDARA" BILL

The Hippostanian Parliament successfully renewed its anti-communist legislation today, with all five hundred members of Parliament unanimously voting to continue the new legislation into 2013.
The Republic has received many threats and condemnations from Leftist nations, attempting to undermine the fair nation's principles of liberty and self-determination. However, Hippostania has not bowed to their ludicrous demands, and remains firm against the socialist urgings of the World Assembly and other globalist organisations.
The law will remain in effect for the next ten years, until 2023, the law's centennial, when it will be voted upon again.
Most pragmatic and sensible nations, such as Zokoria and Syleru, have congratulated Hippostania on this continuing march toward the full eradication of revolutionary socialism and other destructive ideologies. The Anti-Communism Alliance, via the German Empire, has whole-heartily approved of this legislation, believing it a necessary measure in any self-respecting right-wing nation.
I don't care if people hate my guts; I assume most of them do.
The question is whether they are in a position to do anything about it. ― William S. Burroughs

The Honorable Colin Townsend

The Republic of Hippostania

Waverley, Hippostania
January 4, 2013

Mr. Chancellor,

This letter is in regards to your country's recent decision to renew the controversial law known as SADIARA. After seeing the explosion of criticism in the international community, I contacted the leaders of both houses of our Legislature and scheduled a vote for today. I write today to notify you that by authority of my office and the overwhelming majority of both houses of the Legislature, the Republic of New Bierstaat supports Hippostania and her efforts to restrict the dangerous ideology of the left. While the Republic does not have such legislature on file, we have taken our own set of steps to ensure that leftism never comes to power here.

We believe that leftism must be given strict, impassible limits, a "line in the sand", if you will, that these limits may never be transgressed, and freedom may endure. The SADIARA bill is an overwhelming victory for freedom, an assurance that the freedoms that Hippostanians enjoy today, namely freedom to spend their own money in whatever way they wish and the freedom to live as they wish free of excessive government intervention, may be enjoyed for generations to come.

The Republic officially supports SADIARA as Hippostania's own way of drawing this proverbial line in the sand, albeit far more radical than anything we would do, and furthermore believes that Hippostania has the prerogative to legislate for itself in its own matters independent of other countries. We highly doubt that a Communist nation's policy banning rightist or liberal views would garner such widespread criticism from the international community, and further believe that those who hold left-wing views can find plenty of Socialist and Communist countries in which to live all over the known World.

Live long, and prosper.

A Joint Letter from The Great Assembly of the Great Rushmori Confederacy

To all MPs of Hippostania,

Our body, unanimously would like to issue a condemnation of the Hippostanian Parliament for passing what is a fundimentally undemocratic act. While we realise far-left ideologies may not be popular in your nation, to ban them out right is foolish, immature and shows that your government is republic only in name. It should be the right of the Hippostanian people to be able to subscribe to any ideology that they choose and for them to have a say in how the country is run. Banning socialism and communism run counter to this. Though, we realise that you do it simply because you're scared. Scared that if left to their own devices, your people will begin to dismantle the capitalizt model that y'all love so very much.

We get that but, it is NO excuse for doing what you did. The Great Assembly would like to reiterate our position that unless you repeal acts all laws in this vein, The Great Confederacy and many other nations will continue their longstanding embargos and refuse to recognise you as sovereign. However, we will give you a chance. As a body we have narrowly passed a resolution recognising The Republic of Hippostania as the legitimate Hippostanian government in the condition that your body (or the appropriate group) would be willing to enter bilateral talks so a solution can be worked out that allows ALL of your people the right to express their ideologies or the ability to easily go somewhere where they can.

Love,
The Great Assembly

From: Colin Townsend, High Chancellor of the Republic of Hippostania
To: Representative of the State of Virabia

Indeed, there is no excuse for what we did; however, there are very good reasons for our tradition of passing SADIARA every decade. SADIARA protects the property rights and individual liberties of all Hippostanians from the leftist hordes, seeking to strike fear, terror and death into the hearts of innocent Hippostanians. SADIARA acts as our vanguard against evil and protects the freedoms that our people hold dear.

Democracy does not give you a right to support ideals and ideologies which violate the most basic ideas of enlightenment; natural rights of life, liberty and property which our nation was founded upon after the Hippostanian Civil War. Our citizens hold these values dear and no materialistic socialist bastards may ever sway these three great values.

As such, Republic of Hippostania as no intention to bow to foreign pressure and start any kind of talks concerning the repeal of SADIARA. We will never, ever ever allow communist hordes to run wild in our country. This is non-negotiable. End of discussion.
