I believe that it would start with NATO intervention and Syria, followed by a reaction from Russia. Also China and Japan going head to head in E. China sea and/ or China fighting other countries in the S. China sea dispute. NATO having members in the region, the US would have to get involved somehow. The US, being 16 1/2 trillion in debt, certainly cannot win without more interaction with it's allies. Needless to say it will be a close call and a very, very bloody war.

I think that a newly-independent Scotland will bomb London in 2015 due to "feeling like it". England will be outraged by this, and will declare war on Scotland. The US will support England, while Russia will support Scotland. Russia will be against the US, while France will support Scotland and Russia, but oppose England and the USA. Australia and Canada will join on the Scottish side, with Mexico also supporting Scotland. Ireland and some Welsh freedom fighters will support Scotland. Eventually, after all these treaties, the RAF will bomb Edinburgh, and World War III will start. No nukes, though.

I do think some people tend to over-estimate the warlikeness of modern nations. However, history has shown us that periods of tension can arise rather quickly. Remember that, until surprisingly shortly before WWII, the more likely scenario US war planners considered was war with Britain as an ally of Japan, instead of the other way around.

I see no scenario where it is remotely feasible at this point. Maybe in a century or two, when there may well be new superpowers on the block, but now? Simply put, nobody has the economic, military or political will to follow through the idea of a third world war and given that any such conflict would be nuclear, only the crazy would consider plunging the world into such a conflict and no such mainstream politician exists in the politics of ANY serious world powers around today. In fact, I doubt that any such conflict will EVER happen, history has shown that it will instead devolve into a series of proxy wars. That said, if the US were to collapse (Unlikely at the moment) then it could theoretically lead to the rise of a power that would plunge the world into WWIII. But that's really it and it's a desperate shot at that

Luxembourg is too closely allied with Belgium, which nobody likes (it has actually been declared "nuclear whipping boy" and will be used by all the nuclear powers to calibrate their weapons). Meanwhile, Andorra is close to France, which has nukes, so at some point a Yank (they are bad at geography, you know) willdeclare "eh, close enough" and glass it, just to be sure.
