Placenta Eating

In a turn of events that I can't really recall, a friend and I ended up discussing the consumption of human placenta. We managed to find a blog post from a gentleman who served up his son's fresh placenta at a dinner party to some of his vegan friends. You can read that blog post here:

While I respect the right for people to eat placenta, I find it a vile and disgusting act. It's almost like quasi-cannibalism to me. How do you feel about it? Has anybody out there actually tried it?

That's what I thought too. I gagged several times throughout the article. His smile as he holds his son's placenta is pretty priceless though.

It's extremely nutritious and it is supposed to be the mother that eats it, not the father. While it 'is' human fleisch, it *is* food or rather something that is disposed of. Not really any different from biting the inside of your cheek, licking your own blood and so on. Of course, you don't need to eat it... but I find nothing...wrong about it.

I wouldn't do it personally...I have issues with most offal >.>; However if you're chinese...you probably wouldn't notice the difference >.>; (The west eat half a pig...then export the remains over the chinese...highly efficient they are).

I am, however, mildly annoyed by the fact that he fed it to vegans without telling them. And by "mildly annoyed" I mean "I would gladly punch him in the junk and walk off whistling."

I remember seeing a news article, in New Zealand there is a lady who makes food and drink out of placentas and sells them to people... although apparently it has major health benefits so really they're not eating the placentas because they are quasi-cannibals with a fetish for human flesh.

My mother used my placenta as plant fertilizer when I was born because apparently it's good for helping shit grow, and at the time she was a scientist, so I guess placentas really are magical.
