Liberationist Ideology in your country

Postby Namor » Tue Nov 27, 2012 3:26 pm

OOC: This new Lib thread will keep track of every Liberationist party or group outside of Namor

Liberationism is a popular ideology in Namor as well as the official ideology of the Namorese Liberationist Party. Contrary to popular belief, Liberationism is not Namor's state ideology, but rather a popular ideology. It is centered around a non-interventionist foreign policy, a mixed, market-oriented economic plan, LGBT personal liberties and a representative democracy.

Please note that the banning of Liberationism in your nation will NOT prevent Namor from closing all opportunities for the establishment of diplomatic relations with your nation. We are willing to cooperate with any country as long as it respects our existence and sovereignty.

What is the average view of your nation's citizens on Liberationism? A disgusting statist capitalist system based around reactionary ideals such as militarism and nationalism, denial of individual sovereignty, and hypocrtically calling for military intervention into other nations despite a complete unwillingness to intervene directly. The fact that it equates direct democracy with fascism perhaps illustrates better than any of its other principles its opposition to freedom.

What is the general status of Liberationism in your nation?
Liberationism is, like almost every republican ideologies, illegal in Tuthina due to its inherent failure to revere the emperor, who serve both as the head of state of the empire and a deity. It is also considered a dangerous ideology by the ruling nobles because of its anti-feudal and democratic stance, as Tuthina is a feudal absolute monarchy.

Are there any political parties in your nation that follow the Liberationist Ideology? If so, how popular is it?
There are no political parties in Tuthina, and it is not popular even among the few republicans because it is being actively suppressed by the rulers, as well as the dominant modified Callahanist ideology that is the most powerful among the radical republicans.

Does the said organization(s) reject any key components of Liberationism? If so, what are they?

Is there a unique variation of Liberationism in your country?
Are Liberationist parties/political figures popular at the local/regional/national level?
No, because of the aforementioned reasons. Arguably they suffer the most among the republican ideologies because of its explicit anti-feudal stance, and is considered too "moderate" to be supported by the radical republicans.

What is the average view of your nation's citizens on Liberationism?
They consider it blasphemy because it fails to both revere the emperor or to maintain the traditional feudal system. Other than that, they are apathetic to it like to any other ideologies.

Are there any nicknames (positive and negative) for Liberationists in your country?
None, because it is not legal anyway, so there are not enough usage of the term to warrant a nickname. Because there are no words for "liberationism" in the Tuthinan language, it is often called "Namorese republicanism" if we bothered to distinguish it.

What is the general status of Liberationism in your nation? Legal, although not particular popular by itself. We agree with certain elements, including personal liberties and the mixed market system.
Are there any political parties in your nation that follow the Liberationist Ideology? If so, how popular is it? Since we agree with certain elements, various political parties share common ideologies, with the Baren Party especially on defense and nationalism, the National Liberals on the economy, and the Worker's Party on foreign policy.
Does the said organization(s) reject any key components of Liberationism? If so, what are they? Like the above stated, each party has shared similar ideals, but rejected some as well. The Baren Party disagrees with the Liberationist view on non-interventionism, the National Liberals on nationalism and the Worker's Party on Defense.
Is there a unique variation of Liberationism in your country? Not that we know of.
Are Liberationist parties/political figures popular at the local/regional/national level? No.
What is the average view of your nation's citizens on Liberationism? A generally agreeable system.

What is the general status of Liberationism in your nation? There are groups that would observe some similar kind of ideology, but not so precisely and not in homage to Namor. Instead, they're part of a general patois of unorganized center-left thought.
Are there any political parties in your nation that follow the Liberationist Ideology? If so, how popular is it? There are no legitimate political parties in Songhia because of the military junta. There were such groups at one time, and continue to be presently underground, that the Namorese might identify as, 'hey, they're like us,' but these groups wouldn't necessarily call themselves Liberationists or the like. The closest party to that would be the Social Democrats, who no longer really exist.
Does the said organization(s) reject any key components of Liberationism? If so, what are they? Songhia is very socially conservative by modern standards, and no major political group would make homosexual equality a key platform if they wish to appeal to a broad audience.
Is there a unique variation of Liberationism in your country? It's just mainstream Social Democracy.
Are Liberationist parties/political figures popular at the local/regional/national level? Not anymore, due to the junta, but So-Dems generally pulled in 10 to 15% of the electorate back in the days of freedom.
What is the average view of your nation's citizens on Liberationism? None.
Are there any nicknames (positive and negative) for Liberationists in your country? None.

We often refer to it as "neo-liberationism" in order to distinguish it from the earlier more socialist version.
Are there any political parties in your nation that follow the Liberationist Ideology? If so, how popular is it? To an arguable extent, the Social Democratic and Labour Party, who don't consider themselves to be liberationist but in practice support most of its ideas. Early Geadish social democrats such as Erik Erskine influenced the liberationist movement when it was first created. The Socialist Party also has a liberationist faction.
Does the said organization(s) reject any key components of Liberationism? If so, what are they? Geadish liberationists generally accept the monarchy and parliamentary system of Geadland. Their ideas of nationalism are also different; they don't promote singing the national anthem in schools or waving flags, but take on more sceptical views towards immigration and globalisation compared to other leftists, though not as sceptical as the Conservatives or Progressives.
Is there a unique variation of Liberationism in your country? Not really.
Are Liberationist parties/political figures popular at the local/regional/national level? The SDLP are our largest party, holding a third of seats in parliament and many more in county and provincial councils. The Socialsts are a small party with 4% of the seats in parliament. Some members of either parties, such as Kirsten Den Age (Minister of Employment), identify themselves as being liberationists.
What is the average view of your nation's citizens on Liberationism? It has slightly unfortunate connotations due to the Green Fever, but these are fading. Neo-liberationism is perceived quite positively.
Are there any nicknames (positive and negative) for Liberationists in your country? Fanatical liberationists such as Kiang are referred to as "Green Mosters".

How AU912's culture is similar to Liberationism:

AU912 is a Constitutional Republic. Most of our population has ancestors who faught fascism, and it is still considered a Very Bad Idea today. While we have no argument with other nations that do so, as a republic, AU912 does not grant titles of nobility. We agree entirely with your statement "Any person can climb the social ladder if he or she is willing to work for it....every person has the right to self-determination of destiny, and no society can stop him."

Homosexuality and most other forms of consensual relations are legal in AU912. All legal residents may enter into a civil union with anyone of their choice, and the sex of either person is not considered in such matters. Marriages are not regulated by the government in any way.

We believe our nation is unique, worth emigrating to, and worth fighting for. So long as that holds, we are committed to shining our beacon to the world, and we will not submit to the will of international organizations.

AU912 is a non-interventionist nation. If you want to trade with us and you play by our rules on our end, we'll play by your rules on your end as long as the relationship remains in our interest. If your people show up on our front door, we'll decide whether they are let in or returned. If you attack our citizens or our property, don't expect it won't go unanswered. Otherwise, we'll leave you alone.

How AU912's culture differs from Liberationism:

In AU912, we have used the free market system and have remained stable for most of a century while the mixed economy we left behind fell to ruin, so while we agree a planned economy usually results in failure due to poor planning, we don't buy the argument that "only a mixed market system can guarantee economic success in the long run".

We only take volunteers in our army, on the principle that as a highly advanced non-interventionist nation, we don't need a huge military, and small, elite volunteer forces have better morale. Should the situation require, however, we expect every citizen to do his or her duty. We permit private ownership of firearms precisely for the purpose of deterrence against those states that might think they can defeat our small military or corrupt our system.
