Exactly. I have seen a large amount of bronies that did not reply to trolls/haters in a mean way. They replied being very kind and just talked to them. I know a guy that is friends with someone who made fun of him for being a brony. But, I think most of the hate for bronies is coming from people that hate the ones that just shove the fact that they're a fan down other people's throats. And the fans that "clop."

I'm pretty sure that Furries/derivatives-of are the most hated group on the internet, and that a lot of Brony hate comes from the unwarranted association with and similarities between the two groups.

Furries are stereotyped as all kinds of sex-wild and unstable, which is very off-putting for some when they realize they're talking about anthropomorphic animals. The (usually unintentional) connotation is that the average Furry wishes to engage in acts of bestiality whilst actively ignoring every other aspect of the group.

Bronies get a lot of similar flack in the equestrian-specific bestiality department, but have the unfortunate side effect of association with child predation as well as MLP:FiM is a children's show. There's also aspects of homophobia and, as mentioned, "ugh, Furries" mixed in.

While I think that the homophobic and pedophilic aspects are surface hatreds, what I really think gets under peoples' skins is the whole "why are they attracted to animals" thing, regardless of any justifications to be made regarding those thoughts. A lot of the hate and prejudice assigned to Bronies is more along the "are you gay or something?" lines, but most of the root hatred seems to come from the same subconscious hate that Furries get, which doesn't help when the overlaps and associations are so easy to make.

Just to explain myself a bit:
When you go from anthropomorphic animals to just flat out talking animals it is easy to understand why people might consider that a step down. I know several people who have expressed as such in chatrooms, and several friends of mine who are Bronies have complained about being called Furries because they have pony avatars designed, similar to fursonas.

So yes, I am a brony, yet I'm ALMOST at 20% of all the episodes XD I started watching (BARELY) when I was about 12ish

Actually, I make very few pony references. Unless I'm talking to other bronies that will get the reference, then I will not make any references or mention ponies. And like the other guy said, what you just said can be applied to any group on the internet.
