Defense Looks Sharp, Trip to Osarius Looms

James and Tom missed the Flames' third game against Vettera due to a school field trip. So, they gathered around the TV for the night's broadcast:

"In international sports news, the Yesopalitha Flames shut out another team in Vettera, with Julia Carter sacking the other side's QB three times and Viccini Hansu picking the ball off twice. The Flames' only touchdown came from their running back, Nao'ren Isildil, who carried three defenders for ten yards before breaking open a thirty-seven yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter for the only score of the game. Although the defense is starting to click, the offense is having problems communicating, which may not be the best thing because a showdown with Osarius looms. Osarius, the top seeded team in the Flames' group, have given up more points than the Flames, but they have also scored a lot more than the Flames. To make matters even harder, the game will be away at Osarius, who has a very fervent home crowd. As both teams are undefeated through three games, the winner will be penciled in as early favorites for the Group, while the loser will have a chance at revenge back at The Sacred Heart in Game Eight.

Coach Chelak is optimistic about the defensive prowess that the Flames have showed of late, but stated that ball possession and moving the chains will be crucial in order for the Flames to do well. Osarius features a very stout secondary and a lethal pass rush that may have Sandil Ren running for his life. They will need Rocky Telmar to keep the Quarterback clean, while Chip Newmann may be asked to be the security blanket that moves the chains.

Even with a loss, the Flames are off to a bright start at this tournament, and thus there is a lot of room for optimism. Can they handle Osarius, though?"

Tom turned to James, and stated, "What do you think will happen, bro?"

James thought for a second, and replied, "I foresee a narrow loss, and perhaps us avenging the loss later on."

Tom shook his head, and countered, "They'll pull the upset. Carter is looking mighty sharp out there. I'm counting on it."

James smiled, and said, "We'll see."

Eight Lines in the Coach's Journal

Nice win to build upon over Crolacia as the offense, behind Dawson, actually scored a lot of points.

Dawson looked very sharp today with two touchdowns to Desmondain and one deep ball to Temple.

The defense bent a lot, and gave up two TD's, but there wasn't much scary play.

Moving forward, we will need better play from Special Teams... Our kickoff coverage won't do it.

Wilhelm is the wild card... If he plays well, Dawson has less pressure on him and has the time to make decisions. If we can't run, Dawson is hurried.

Nice blocking by the line today, as they are really starting to jell.

Matting is a side that has been struggling, but they have the same record as us. Not to be underestimated.

At the end of the day, a win is a win, and it feels good.

Mixed emotions

While the Firebirds will be pleased with a third win in the World Bowl, on the back of two defensive scores -- unprecedented for Osarius -- and a well-varied offensive performance... the old concerns about the strength of the Firebirds' rush defense are back.

On this particular occasion, we can perhaps put it down as poor scouting, as Garbongo's men effectively went in blind against Northern Sunrise Islands. Though this doesn't excuse the two quarters of large gains on the ground from their unfancied opposition.

"Even now I don't know who the guy is, but he's quick. Real quick. And they got some pretty good linemen, picked up some solid blocks and cut me off a few times, so it was hard to get to him until the second half, where we'd got a decent read on their game."

Micah Forte is undoubtedly one of the team's leaders on defense, and a near-elite athlete, so his difficulties won't be shrugged off. When asked if he feels that this could spell trouble for his side against Yesopalitha next week -- who many consider to be the only opponent in the group who could pose serious problems for the Firebirds -- head coach Robert Garbongo seemed confident. "I don't think so, no. The Flames' strength isn't really on offense, and as impressive as their defense has been so far, I don't think they've had a real test yet." The Zerabithean explained. "Their offensive line doesn't look anywhere near the size of the guys we had to face against Northern Sunrise Islands, so I can't foresee any struggles physically." Garbongo later added "Except with Telmar" referring to the former Freedom's Altar University and NSCF standout, and did concede that the team would have to guard against complacency, too. He echoed the commonly held view that the capacity crowd in the Benevolence Bowl would be baying for blood, which could have a deep impact on the game. "I always thought the Benevolence Bowl was oddly named. The crowd is anything but benevolent there!" He quipped, changing the tone again.

Defensive scores could be the key against Yesopalitha, whose solid defense is easily the best in Group Ten at the moment, allowing just seven points in their three games thus far. After picking up a safety and returning an interception for a touchdown against Northern Sunrise Islands, the Firebirds defensive unit will be confident they can hurt the Flames. On top of that, Elliot Johnson's two touchdown performance is certainly harming Tommy Rhodes' chances of lining up under center as starter in the near future. While the Firebirds have two star quarterbacks, so arguably do the Flames. Backup QB Nero Williams was impressive in NSCF last season, and is not afraid to take a hit or two, and is a capable runner of the ball as well as a strong passer. If that's got you worried, it's perhaps best we don't go into detail on the Flames' starting quarterback Sandil Ren, whose immense experience could be a difference maker against the re-tooled, more youthful Firebirds.

Firebirds Defensive captain Antonio Martinez insists that Sandil Ren's impact on the game will be minimal, however, and vowed to "pound him into dust" if given the chance, while dismissing backup QB Nero Williams as "a talented kid, but no Tommy Rhodes". The former Utica University defensive end expressed concern over the potential for Nao'ren Isildil to do some damage if he's given the chance to build momentum, however.

"I've watched a lot of tape of this guy in their first two matches already, and if he gets the chance to run at me, or Daryn [Patterson], or even Ku'lo [Manaki'de], we might have a problem. He's stronger than he looks, and his height maybe helps him break tackles unless we shoot in low. [...] But at least we'll see him coming!

Harold Matterhorn agrees with Martinez that Isildil will likely be the key man to stop for the Firebirds, while stopping Rocky Telmar from dominating at center will be the toughest job for the defensive line. "If the Firebirds can neutralise Telmar, the Flames are in for a long night in Dynapolis." Matterhorn told us. "But if Telmar can wreak havoc in the trenches, expect to see Isildil run riot." The prospect of halting the Lycanthrope tailback in the backfield before he can build much momentum is not unrealistic for the speedy Osarian defense, but tackling a powerful runningback is very different to bringing down a quarterback.

Warrior fans rejoiced as Rennidan's premier team took their first win of the World Bowl campaign with a 17-3 storm over the relatively unknown Bordurian team. After a disappointing loss at home to open the Bowl against Consumar and a tight 6-3 loss on the road to Taeshan, many Warriors supporters were beginning to think they were in for another long World Bowl. Once titled "the losingest team in World Bowl history", Rennidan has a poor track record, only having appeared in the finals once despite being a name in the sport since it's first iteration.

The Match Day 3 victory over Bordurian was a typical Rennidan affair, full of enough heavy hits to fill a season long highlight reel. Aél Wiltshire set the tone as soon as the whistle was blown, catching the Bordurian first string running back as he was returning the kick off. Play was halted temporarily as the stretcher came to take him off, but the game continued from where he fell at the 37 yard line.

Rennidan's number 9, Mat O'lok, threw 4 for 5 to gain just two yards shy of 90 and ran for forty eight and one touchdown.

The real star of the match had to be the Rennidan defence though. The Warriors managed to hold Bordurian to only 34 yards by air and negative 16 yards on the ground, recorded a new personal record of 12 sacks amongst themselves and scored a flabbergasting five safeties. Mik Tenfall managed to force three fumbles in the endzone which went out of play, utilizing an impressive looking hit that was half uppercut and half runaway train, and Aél Wiltshire and Jayson Yuset both landed powerful hits on the second string runningback as he attempted to break free of the endzone.

Rennidan's next opponent, the sweetly titled Bloodbath Generation, are likely to be the kind of team Rennidan enjoys playing if they live up to their name.

Violent Fans Plan to Flood Civil Citizenry


In a shout back to the "glory days" of Rennidanian football, it would seem a generation of die-hard hooligans have passed the flame down to a new breed of ultra violent, tech-savvy troublemakers looking to spice up the supporting side of international gridiron. Word travelling online forums seems to suggest a loosely united league of gridiron hooligans are pinning their hopes on Rennidan making it through to the knockout stage of the World Bowl, allowing them to export their destructive tendencies to host nation Civil Citizenry.

"Here's our chance to step outside the overly protective Rennidanian border and really show the world what we're made of. The strongest team should have the strongest fans, and there's only one way to find out who that is" was the message one user left behind. Government officials in Rennidan are already looking into matters, aiming to bar any trouble makers from leaving the country, but this pre-emptive measure has been attempted with mixed results in the past. "These kinds of louts always find a way to follow their team. They're like a bad stench" said an anonymous travel official when asked to comment on the situation.

First Topic: Qazox lost to Fantoa last night 3-10, in a downpour which saw the game stopped early in the 2nd quarter for 15 minutes for excessive lightning around the stadium. The ground was basically a swamp as neither team could get much going offensively. A mishanded punt attempt in the endzone by Arthur Muadh early in the 4th quarter provided the only touchdown. So panelists, more to blame for the loss, the weather or something else?

I'd give it 95% weather, 5% Coach Harper's playcalling. Yes it was a muddy mess out there, but calling 17 straight rushing plays in the 3rd and 4th quarter, when Fantoa had 8 in the box was just plan stupid.(+1)(+1). Yes Zebow struggled in the first half, but even the great Johan Emway would've struggled in that quagmire. (+1)(+1). His one int was on as flukey play as one can get, bouncing off of Ryan King's helmet and right into the hands of a defender that had just fallen to the ground. (+1).

I agree with you there Erica on the flukey int, if it weren't raining and if King wasn't trying to catch the ball and keep himself from falling at the same time, he would've caught that pass and had a good 10-15 YAC afterwards. (+1)(+1)(+1). But it was 100% the weather. The referees were right in stopoing the game after the lightning strike in the 2nd quarter, but, and I know Gridiron players are supposed to be tough and play in any weather, but when the mud in places is coming half-way up a man's leg or three teammates need to pick a player up off the ground, it's time to call the game or suspend it. (+1)(+1)(+1)(+1).

I'd have to say it's Zebow's fault for this loss, as big of a Zebow homer I am. (-1). While the weather played a big part in this game, he didn't look like someone ready to play at this level. (+1)(+1) and Fantoa was the perfect team to get his feet wet with, in this case literally (+1)(+1); but we all know after a loss there's onyl two people to shoulder the blame, the coach and the QB. And i think this one was on the QB more than the coach. (+1)

As the de-facto anti-Zebow fan club president, as some call me; even I have to admit that any QB would've struggled out there, so I will take the high road and blame it on the weather(+1)(+1). The 7 completions he did have were good accurate throws, and 3 or 4 of his incompletions were dropped, not his fault. But a couple of times early on, before the rain started coming down in cascades (+1)(+1), he did look tentative, especially the deep bomb to Alan Mordred. If he had waited another half second, and he had the time the O-line were easily the players of the game, he would've hit Modred in stride.(+1)(+1) Instead, he sails it over his head.

Next is Thatius, back home at the SaxerDome. What does Qazox need to do to get back on track?

On the first offensive possession, they need to march down the field and get a TD, to re-assert themselves and on defense attack the left guard of Thatius. He's given up 10 sacks in 3 games, and his back-up's gave up 4 on Monday night.(+1)(+1)(+1) So get after the QB and score early. (+1)
Force an early turnover, and punch it in for a TD. (+1)
Get Ian West going outside. Thatius' DE's are a bit slower than the average and our tackles should be able to take advantage of that. (+1)
Pray the stadium roof is closed for one, as rain is expected in the SaxerVilla area Saturday afternoon (+1); that and as others have said score early and rely on the defense to hold Thatius off the board.(+1).

Welcome to the exclusive RSC coverage on the World Bowl! I am Sok Liszan, and together, we will explore the world of American football.

After a disastrous loss 0-22 to the Allamunnic States, and another loss to the Karditan with this time Redayan Football team actually managing to score and loss 3-34, Redaya won its first game in the World Bowl against Deandean98, ending the game 6–28 with a win for Redaya.

In the most recent game, however, the Redayan Football Team lost once again, this time 0-13, to Cassadaigua. Some say it was a moment of distraction that caused all these losses, others say that Redaya just sucks at football and should just focus on something it is good at, like handling the economy or playing soccer.

Whatever the reason is, Redaya did not get a very good head-start in the World Bowl. Football analysts predict that Redaya won't probably last long in the World Cup, but both the players and the people back home are hopeful that their favourite team will win the Bowl despite these setbacks.

According to Redayan Football Team coach Dadara Famil, the Redayan players can not be blamed for the losses, but instead, their tactics are to blame. Dadara also stated that starting tomorrow, the team will start to design new plans and tactics in order to best their opponents.

Change is good, since if they continued their old ways, I doubt they would have lasted long in the World Bowl. Anyway, today, we are proud to say, Dadara is coming to RSC. Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to present you...

An exclusive interview with the Redayan Football Team Coach and Manager Dadara!



Interview With Dadara Famil:

Soz Liszan: Hello and welcome to RSC, Mr Famil!
Dadara Famil: Please, call me Dadara.
Soz Liszan: Well then, welcome to RSC, Dadara.
Dadara Famil: Thank you.
Soz Liszan: So, Dadara, tell us, what do you think about Redaya's first match against the Allamunnic States?
Dadara Famil: Absolute and total disaster. Could have saved the humiliation of scoring nothing if we had planned some good tactics beforehand.
Soz Liszan: You guys went into the game unprepared?
Dadara Famil: Oh heavens no, we would have lost 0-52 if we just played without anything in mind. Our tactics just were not confusing enough, if you catch my drift.
Soz Liszan: Is that what the new tactics used by the Redayan Team going to be like?
Dadara Famil: Yes, if our tactics are simple yet confusing, then our opponent will very likely have a hard team knowing what we will do, hence giving more chances to our players.
Soz Liszan: Hadn't thought of that. What about Karditan?
Dadara Famil: They are pros as well, we were barely able to score that one shot.
Soz Liszan: They were that tough?
Dadara Famil: Were tough, played tough, and were challenging... very challenging.
Soz Liszan: So challenging that it makes you guys lose. What about the win against Deandean98?
Dadara Famil: I mean no offense when saying this, but they outright sucked from the beginning.
Soz Liszan: How so?
Dadara Famil: Much as we hate to say it, Redayan people are just not suited for football. Soccer, yes, but football?
Soz Liszan: What's the difference?
Dadara Famil: Redayan folks are not good when it comes to physical activities. Soccer is just kicking a ball around when compared to football's rough wrestling-soccer crossover.
Soz Liszan: Pretty sure all football fans in Redaya know that.
Dadara Famil: They do, but as a wise man once said, something useful never hurts to be repeated.
Soz Liszan: Right.... how about the recent loss in the game against Cassadaigua?
Dadara Famil: Still a few Bowls to go before our players are experienced enough to be able to take on those pros.
Soz Liszan: You don't sound very optimistic.
Dadara Famil: No need to be, we are going to win the Bowl somehow, but it will be darned hard.
Soz Liszan: How do you feel about managing Redaya's first and only football team?
Dadara Famil: Good, happy, not much. Like anything else, even an economist can run a football team.
Soz Liszan: I am sure not many economists like to play... this kind of sport.
Dadara Famil: Damn right.
Soz Liszan: Okaaaaay, time is running out with only three minutes till the end of the program. Last words?
Dadara Famil: You make it sound like an execution! And no.
Soz Liszan: Alright then. It was a pleasure having you here, Dadara.
Dadara Famil: Pleasure was all mine.

Sitting at 2-2, the Harvest Mice have scalped the group leaders with a standout collective defensive effort, which still left their scoring defense in an embarrassing statistical position. Santos had not only the rushing touchdown to ice the game, but four sacks as well, in a defensive breakout game.

In a showdown between the two undefeated teams in Group Ten, it was the Flames of Yesopalitha who overcame the Firebirds of Osarius behind an unlikely hero and a goal-line stand as time expired to earn a 17-10 win over one of the top squads in the world.

Coming into the game, Yesopalitha's offense had been struggling, while the defense, led by Viccini Hansu and Julia Carter, had been gobbling up the opposing side time and time again. Osarius, on the other hand, had scored seventy-one points, an average of over twenty-three a game, while having a respectable defensive effort.

The game started off badly for Yesopalitha, as QB Sandil Ren's pass to Anone Uneheim was intercepted by Craig Wilkerson on the third play of the game. Wilkerson returned the ball to the Flames' thirty-one yard line, and the Flames' defense faced a stiff test early. A quick first down was completed by Firebirds QB Elliot Johnson to TE Karim Ouaddau. That was followed, however, by a tackle behind the line of scrimmage by DT Red Brune on RB Sheldon Taylor, then a deflection by DE Miosi Harold on Johnson's pass, then a short pass to Ouaddau that didn't gain all ten yards due to a nice tackle by LB Julia Carter. The Firebirds had to settle for a Paul Atkinson Field Goal and a 3-0 lead.

After the ensuing kickoff was taken to the thirty-five, the Flames offense went off on its best drive of the game. An Isidil run gained twenty-five yards behind solid blocking by Telmar and his line-mates. With the ball at the forty, Ren pump-faked and threaded the needle on a pass to Harold Newman down the sideline for a twenty-one yard gain. With the Firebirds defense on their heels, Ren ran on a QB option down the right sideline before smartly stepping out-of-bounds at the eleven yard line. On second-and-two from the eleven, Isildil ran up the middle for five yards and a first down. With six yards to the end zone, the Coach Chelak opted to use Nu'il Ran, the goal-line specialist. With an extra offensive lineman, Ran ran into the end zone for a touchdown and a 7-3 lead for the Flames.

It was midway through the second quarter before the Firebirds started to put together a solid drive. On third-and-seven from the Osarius thirty-eight, Johnson completed a play-action pass deep down the left sideline to Lucas Clayton for a fifty-two yard gain that beat out the inexperienced Luther Merlander. With the Flames' defense reeling and the ball at the ten yard line, Johnson found his running back, Sheldon Taylor, all alone at the back of the end zone for a not-so-expected TD to the unlikely target. Osarius's lead was back at three.

Ren started to put together a nice, two-minute drive with two and a half minutes left in the half. Newman caught a nice ball in the middle of the field and took it to the twenty-four, but he dropped the next ball in the end zone. After an Isidil run was stuffed by LB Micah Forte, QB Ren was sacked by DE Kenneth Braddock, and the Flames had to settle for a fourty-nine yard field goal by Van Allen. The game was 10-10 at the half.

After some offensive success by both teams, the third quarter became a defensive struggle, with both D's not allowing more than two first downs in a row for either of the offenses. It was with three minutes left in the third quarter that the game got a jolt of unexpected brilliance. Osarius had been stuffed once again by the Flames defense, and Owen Dickson booted the ball to the Flames' ten yard line, where Kim Ingard caught the ball, turned up-field, and following the blocks of her teammates, turned on her afterburners, out-running most of the Osarius special teams, eluding two tackles, and scoring a ninety-yard touchdown that pushed the mute button on a sold-out crowd at the Benevolence Bowl and put up the underdog Flames by a score of 17 to 10.

Osarius would not go quietly, however, as the experience of the Firebirds' offense started to wear away at the Flames. With five minutes left in the game, Johnson started to bring his group together on a drive starting from his own thirty-two. Sheldon Taylor broke off a thirty-two yard run, his longest in the game, to the Flames' thirty-six. After two incomplete passes, Johnson found the defense playing prevent and carried the ball himself ten yards to extend the drive. A Taylor run carried the Firebirds to the twenty, which is where the two-minute warning sounded. On the next play, Johnson found his tight end, Ouaddou, free in the right flat with Nevin Hansoval, the Flames' right outside linebacker, badly beaten. Ouaddou caught the ball and was about to score the game-tying touchdown when Viccini Hansu wrestled him down at the one yard line. With one minute and forty-six seconds left, and three time-outs, Osarius faced one yard to go with the crowd up to their feet. Taylor tried the right side, but was tackled immediately by Carter and Hansoval before gaining a single inch. The next play, the Firebirds tried some trickery with a play-fake, but Johnson's pass to Jesus Barrios was pulled out of Barrios' hand by Nealie Janhoven. On third down, Johnson tried a QB sneak, but DT Red Brune managed to grab hold of him after a half-yard.

So, fourth and a half yard, with less than one minute left, the Firebirds called time-out. After a tense minute, they came out with their normal set, as to not tip their hand. Johnson took the snap, wheeled left, and pitched the ball right. For a split second, it seemed as if the Flames had been fooled by the misdirection play, and Taylor looked as if he was going to score the tying touchdown. However, as if out of thin air, Julia Carter dashed in, and before Taylor could cross the plane, before the nose of the ball could cross into the end zone. Carter took him down with the momentum carrying him backwards. The official replay from within two minutes showed that Taylor had been stuffed with about a foot to go, and the Flames' defense held. It took one kneel-down by Ren, and the biggest victory of this young qualifying season by Yesopalitha was in the books.

Jack Chelak, the Head Coach, said this of this team: "They are such a resilient squad that doesn't give up. Sandil could've just been dejected after the first pick, but he hung in there. Isildil was key in many plays, and Ran scoring the first TD was huge. I can't say enough about the defense, as they really hung in there. Julia Carter was amazing out there again. And what can you say about Kim? She broke the game wide-open, and helped us win. A huge win for our team. Now, though, we have to focus on the next game at hand. Northern Sunrise Islands has a great ground game, and we cannot be complacent. Yes, it was a huge win for us. But we have to move on, pat ourselves on the heads, and start to watch tape on NSI."

If the Flames' defense continues to shine, this team can go a long ways, no matter how much the offense struggles.

The Flames will face Osarius once again in the second leg of the double round-robin Group play, back at The Sacred Heart. One thing is for certain - the Firebirds will be keeping an eye on trying to stop Julia Carter the next game.

Eight Lines in the Coach's Journal

A dashing win over Matting behind another nice performance of Dawson, who had two touchdowns and led two field-goal scoring drives.

Nice day for the defense as well, only giving up one touchdown, and having a safety scored by forcing intentional grounding out of the end zone.

With two wins and two losses, maybe we have a chance at a third or fourth place finish by the end of Group play. Qualifying should be considered almost impossible.

Undefeated Thrilledge is next, and we will probably lose, but hoping for a respectable score is not a hard thing to ask for, is it?

We are actually ahead on point differential now! The defense is starting to click, with Jack Hart leading the way, as expected.

Special teams has been all right, though I don't understand why our punt defense team is not doing well.

Controlling the massive Thrilledge offense will be key. They have scored the most points in the group while giving up the least.

Man, I actually think we can win, though. It's good to feel somewhat confident!

Following an embarrassing (but likely unpreventable, given the circumstances) loss to Karditan, the Regulars returned home to Thomasburg and played a needlessly close, but still important victory, 20-14 over Vietlambodiamardesh as Leif Erikson tossed up two touchdowns and Justin Connors pegged two field goals. The win sees the Regulars still at second in their group (thanks to that ill-timed loss to Karditan), but more solidly in second thanks to a 3-1 record.

Unfortunately, some are saying that the departure of Theo Dahlstadt has negatively-impacted the defense, and it's not hard to see why; the Regulars have played two close games, won a blowout, and lost by two scores. Only in one game has the defense been impressive, and, no offense to the Redayan national side, we sort of expected it to be there. Meanwhile, the normally-staunch defense has allowed 52 points in three games. For reference, the team gave up just 42 points in ten games of the qualifying round in World Bowl Seventeen. The team has not even played half as many games, and has already coughed up ten more points. Granted, twenty-one of those points came in a loss while the team was ponified and disoriented, but still, it is a performance that defensive coordinator Daniel Rickenbacker has called 'unacceptable.'

"Look at the last two years, when we've won championships. Sure, the offense has done its job in the playoffs, but we've largely qualified on the strength of our defense. Hell, last year, we had a defensive MVP in the final, when Elias pretty much single-handed took apart Cain Wells. The fact that we're already doing worse, and have coughed up a loss to boot, is not something any of us on the team or in the coaching staff are happy about, and we're going to be reevaluating our execution of the basics. A lot of it is silly things. Missed tackles or arm-tackling, not breaking down, not staying low. It's silly, sloppy [expletive] that's killing us, and that's going to stop."

Still, the defensive effort wasn't all bad; NT Theo Laansur was a menace in the middle of the line, and he recorded four tackles for loss in addition to a sack and a half as the Regulars held their opponents to a total of 45 rushing yards. Most of the damage done was through the air, with kick and punt returns putting the opponent in good field position to start.

Moreover, Danyl Wyndhorst broke 100 yards for the second time this campaign, although he never found the endzone. That was left entirely to Erikson, who lobbed 12- and 6-yard touchdown passes to Willy Theodore and Garrett Kelley respectively. Erikson's performance over three of the last four games (excepting the Karditan one; he never even figured out how to throw with no hands (Sorry Lyra)) has been a marked improvement over his performance last year, which was statistically unremarkable, if fairly efficient. Here, however, he has carried the team where necessary, and it's leading a lot of people to believe he may actually live up to his (lofty) potential.

"He's got the arm. He's got the size. And the decision-making is getting there," quarterbacks coach John McClelland said after a practice this week. "If this keeps up, I would feel comfortable listing him in the top ten signal-callers in the world, easily, and maybe even contending for the top five, if for no other reason than that Qazox can't seem to hold onto theirs. Or their coaches. Or their teams, apparently."

Allamunnic States Daily does not endorse coach McClelland's taunting of the Qazoxian national side. However, this reporter, personally, finds it quite amusing.

Team Performing Adequately, but ratings not there

After four games, the Dagans have a record of 3-1, with the defense coming off a dominant performance over Redaya on the road. Courtney Davis picked off three passes in the 13-0 victory. In some respects, the game resembled a qualifying match from World Bowl 17, where Cassadaigua was dominant on defense, but the offense could not move the ball against a lesser opponent. Again, Brianna Jameson and company were sluggish, with the 33-year old quarterback overthrowing her receivers that likely led to boos that could be heard from Cassadagans at home who were watching on TV. The receivers couldn’t criticize, as on two occasions, TD passes were dropped in the end zones, and on both occasions, the ladies in pink and black were forced to settle for three points instead. The game prior, a measly 6-3 win over a nation with an annoyingly long name wasn’t much a rating boost either.

The lone setback was that 18-17 heartbreaker to Allamunnic States. Meaghan Sunderland still can’t put her embarrassing slip behind her. After that stumble on the icy Allamunnic field that ruined a sure win by Cassadaigua, Sunderland has struggled, rushing for 62 yards on 21 carries against Vietwhatever, then 58 yards on 20 carries against Redaya, and her confidence is obviously shot.

So to, seem to be the interest in Dagan fans, with the World Bowl struggling to get strong ratings back at home. Unfortunately for Sunderland, her embarrassing moment was the one game that did draw high ratings.

Well, no-one quite expected that, did they? A bunch of football-playing ponies that aren't from the Equestrian States. Well, I'm not sure if you can call what they did football, but I suppose anything that the Allamunnic States does probably related to football one way or the other. In some ill-advised attempt to "level the playing field," the Aluminiums Allamoneys Allamunnics used a machine to transform themselves into ponies. As if our entire team is ponies. It's not, by the way, if you haven't been watching the games (which I assume you aren't if you're reading this article), it's roughly 50/50 human/pony (or perhaps 60/40).

Anyway, onto the actual game: Garret Norris and Jerry Pasta lorded their opposable thumbs over the fresh batch of Equines trying to stop them. The Allamunnics seemed very tentative when it came to jumping, as both landing properly and getting up after falling are much more difficult with four legs--not to mention that the hard ground in the Construction Site wasn't very forgiving. As such, the normally dominant Allamunnic defense recorded almost no blocks as Norris completed nearly 95% of his passes. There was some pressure, and the Allamunnic defensive line still recorded a handful of sacks, but not nearly as they're used to getting. The three Karditani touchdowns all came courtesy of the Norris-Pasta combination, with TDs in the first, third and fourth quarters, with the extra points converted easily.

One point to note was the complete lack of a running game from the Karditanis. Light Step is normally used to using his extra traction--due to his four legs--to accelerate quickly and get past the defensive line before anyone's realized that charge already started. That didn't work against a team of other equines, who were able to catch up to Step and take him down without too many problems. On the other end, the Karditani defense was completely unused to handling a pony rusher; Ole Nurdsunn happened to turn into one hell of a stallion and bulldozed through our lines in the second for the only score for the Allamunics. A few minor shifts in the defense later and the Ironworkers had Ol' Ole well in-hand.

Oh, and we also beat those odd fellows from Deandean98. A rushing TD for Step and a Norris-Hooves pass for a TD put the Ironworkers up 14-0; they didn't need anymore of a lead with how well they shut down the Deanian offense, but Ricky Ricketts tagged on a field goal for good measure. As of now we are sitting pretty atop the group with a 4-0 record, though the States and Cassadaigua are waiting in the wings with 3-1 records both. Speaking of Cassadaigua, we're playing them next away at Concord Heights stadium. Hopefully an impromptu snowstorm passes by; then we wouldn't have to worry about covering the run! (If you haven't seen Ms. Sunderland's little slip in the snow, look it up. I'm sure there's video of it on the internet.)

First Topic: A tight game for 3 quarters at least, until a 23 point 4th quarter sparked by 3 Thatius turnovers and the longest interception return in World Bowl history as Qazox defeated Thatius 43-20. So was last night's game, which saw Jim Zebow in his first home game throw for 347 yards, 4 TD's and run for another 48 yards a sign that Zebow can QB at this level or was it just a one time fluke?

Zebow's the future, but as on my cohorts on show, Statistics, Lies and other Bull$#!t (-1) did; we looked into the past and Zebow's only the 9th highest-rated Qazoxian QB in their first home start. He has the 2nd most TD's, but only the 11th most passing yards and 13th best competion percentage (+1)(+1)(+1)(+1). He only went 19-41 last night, and we the recepient of two long pass plays that boosted his yardage numbers. That being said, he didn't turn the ball over and he showed good composure in the pocket. (+1)

I don't think it's a one-time fluke. But the 22 incompetions showed me that he still has a bit of learning to do to be a successful QB at this level. (+1)(+1). At least 3 or 4 of those incompletions should have been picked off, and a couple were real close to being intentional grounding. (+1). It's a good thing that the next two games are at home as well, as that will hopefully make it easier on him before the Sharks have to go back on the road.

4 TD's and over 300 yards, if he can do that every game, Qazox should be able to win the World Bowl. (+1)(+1). Not going to say they are yet, as Zebow's not faced any really tough defenses yet. A team like Cassadaigua or Allamunnic States, both of which empasize pass defense would have intercepted those 3 or 4 almost interceptions (+1)(+1)(+1). Hopefully the next couple of games will see him put up better completion numbers

I didn't see anything that has changed my feelings on Jim Zebow. He's great talent and could be the next great QB, but he's still acting like he's going up against high school and QCAA teams. (+1)(+1)(+1). He's forcing passes that shouldn't be forced and despite the 2 bombs, he's not shown that he has an accurate deep ball. (+1)(+1). Hopefully he'll get it together, as this group's very winnable, but right now if this were the playoffs, Qazox would be going home next week. (+1)(+1)

Half-way point of qualifying and Qazox has a 4-1 record, with Zebow at the helm until the end of the group stage, unless he gets injured, what is Qazox' final record?

Hello and welcome back to the exclusive RSC coverage on the eighteenth World Bowl! I am Sok Liszan and hand-in-hand, we will explore the latest happenings in the World Bowl.

Just earlier today, the Redayan Football Team played against the Vietlambodiamardesh, winning the game 0-24 in favour of Redaya. Albeit that is not a victory to be proud of, as almost everybody has defeated the Vietlam players. Still, each victory will bring our team closer to their ultimate goal, which is winning the World Bowl and hopefully with the brightness and blessing of the Shepism Light, they will achieve that goal.

Strangely enough, though, every team which lost in Group Six today lost without scoring anything. Perhaps it was a coincidence? Anyway, the Redayan Team's players become even more optimistic after their change of tactics. Dadara Famil, the coach and manager of the Redayan Football Team, even stated that where it not for the modification of their tactics, this victory might not have been possible although some fans argue with his point, saying that the experience of the players was also essential.

Fans, however, are overjoyed to hear that their favourite team actually has a chance of winning the World Bowl. Now, let us see how Redaya is per the rest of the group performed today:

As can be seen, Karditan, is currently leading and even though they lost today's game to the Allamunnic States, they still maintain the first position. Redaya, is the fourth best performing team in Group Six, and has -20 points, down from a record high of -44 points which we had from losing the game with Cassadaigua.

Our opponent, the one which we played against today, is currently the fifth best performing nation in terms of points, but it is still classified as sixth for reasons we are not aware of. Perhaps it was a small mistake, or intentional although we highly doubt it was intentional.

Anyway, with Cassadaigua, Allamunnic States, and Karditan as present opponents, the Redayan Team has to work hard and long if they want to win the World Bowl. Our good luck to them.

Ian: "Welcome to World Bowl Recap. Here with ex-Avensborough head coach Max Hamilton, I'm Ian Flaherty. At the halfway point of the group stage, Thrilledge is performing like champions. They are 5-0 and sitting atop Group 8 with a two game cushion over the second place Space team who happens to be their next opponent. What are they doing right Max?"

Max: "Well for one thing, the defense has shown up. They are allowing only 8.8 points a game, which any team with a defense playing like that will find themselves with a lot more wins that losses."

Ian: "The offense has been there as well."

Max: "Absolutely. Blastings is playing great behind his offensive line that has given up only 3 sacks so far. This team is only second to German Zerabithea in total points with 125. The receivers are running great routes and not dropping to many balls. One receiver that has stood out to me is Carl Vincent. His quickness has been killing defenses so far in this tournament."

Ian:"Let's go to the highlight. Here is a play from the game against Crolacia. Take us through the route."

Max: "Here, Vincent runs a slant and makes a cut back out towards the corner of the end zone. The defender is with him through the slant but once he makes his cut, it's all over for the corner. He has no safety help as one is blitzing and the other is covering Brownwood. A perfectly thrown back shoulder pass by Blastings and we have 6 points."

Ian: "Now Blastings is playing great too, both in the air and on the ground too."

Max: "You said it. His arm has been golden for Thrilledge but we and defenses can't overlook his ground game. He's put on a little bit of weight too so his power goal-line rush has also been effective. It's not only that but also when he's flushed out of the pocket and relied on his legs, he also has been picking up a lot of yards."

Ian: "The next matchup is against Space, away. In their first meeting, Thrilledge was the victor by a score of 16-13. Obviously they want to make it an easier win. What does Thrilledge have to do to that?"

Max: "They just have to keep doing what they're doing; play good defense and be effective on offense. I'd like to see them run the ball with their backs a little bit more just to keep the defense on edge. If they do that, they can come away with the win."

Ian: "Well, that's all we have here. We're throwing it to TBL Nightly where Gold River and Zollnando had some extra-inning drama."
