Court extends term of detention for ‘Pussy riot’ members

Postby Exi1and » Fri Jul 20, 2012 12:02 pm

http://rt.com/news/prime-time/pussy-riot-appeal-dismiss-775/

That was two weeks ago. Now, today, 6 months was added to a term of imprisonment.

Moscow's Khamovnichesky Court on Friday ruled to extend the current term of detention for participants of the ‘Pussy riot’ punk group until January 12, 2013. Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Yekaterina Samutsevich and Maria Alyokhina have been in jail since February for a guerilla performance inside Russia’s main Orthodox cathedral in February 2012. Their current term of detention was to expire on July 24. The state prosecutor had asked the court to prolong the custodial term to six months. The group’s members face up to seven years in prison for hooliganism.

I applaud the authorities for the locking up of these hideous women, where they can not do any harm. Not only do they behave in the way that is seditious, they attacked the dignity of one of the pillars of society in the form of the church. I hope that when they are convicted of a crime, they get a full seven-year term.

What do you think?

I think it was an act of protest and they should be let free, as if there was ever a chance of that happening.

Why hasn't the US invaded Russia yet? I mean, seriously?! That's just fucked up.

Very, very brave ladies. When you've got a government as screwed-up as Russia's is now, you've gotta take some kind of drastic action to draw people's attention.
It's interesting you think their appearance is somehow relevant to this, and then call them seditionists for exercising their right to free speech. Says a lot about you.

Based on the source, I don't understand what "hooliganism" is... it's not like they rioted in the church.

Even if we could invade them, it's absolutely stupid to do so because they imprisoned a punk band. This sounds like something from a B-rate comedy film. ''Watch as Pussy Riot takes a vacation to Moscow, and they quickly find themselves amidst the turmoil of protests on the streets. After getting caught up in the protests, they find themselves in the evil dungeon of Count Vladimir Putin, and now the United States and NATO are invading to free them from the hands of the evil Sith Lord.''

Hope they have a geiger counter. Sweeping their meals for polonium is going to be a bitch.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

Cool story bro.

Russia is suppressing dissent. Nothing new there since, oh I don't know, the dawn of time. I do like how cozy the State is getting with the Orthodox Church.

I heavily applaud the authorities, as well. They crossed the line as soon as they attacked a Christian church.

So you would be crying for their release if they did it in a mosque or a synagogue huh?

They didn't attack anything. No one got hurt. They played an unauthorized performance INSIDE a church.
Glad to know you're so approving of Russia's complete disregard of free speech and human rights.

Why is that a line? It might be because I come from a nation where people think nothing of Insulting or making fun of anything, but why should we give a shit what a church that has been a suck up to every murderous dictator/absolute ruler for the past 1000 years thinks?

I don't know if that time will come anytime soon. Putin is playing on the old and very close ties between the monarchy and the church. The Russian Tsar used to be known as the defender of the faith within the Orthodox Church. It looks like Putin seeks to reestablish that fact.

Putin has been pulling pages from the Monarchy's playbook to justify his legitimacy for some time.
