WORLDBOWL TONIGHT

Welcome to World Bowl tonight, I'm your host Karl Kruk, and joining me are John Francona and Terry Larkin. For the first time in a while, there are no changes to the Sharks' roster, but unlike last time there is a coach, John Harper III. So what do we know about Harper?

Larkin: He has a good grasp of the pro-style offense, but likes to run a no-huddle at times. Qazox is not built for a no-huddle offense, but as a change-of-pace for a few plays, it'll work.

Francona: On the defensive side of the ball he does use the 3-4, but likes the throw out a 3-3-5 with Sean van der Hann as the 3rd safety; and a 4-3 with Bruce Neuman moving up into a end and Craig Boothe moving over to a tackle. With little reserves on the team, Peter Hamilton might see some playing time as a nickelback, a postition he played in college.

Kruk: The group draw has been released and Qazox has a tough group, with former champions Cassadaigua and Taeshan in the group along with Camwood, Free South Califas and Falconfar. What are Qazox' prospects in this group?

Francona: They might miss the playoffs. Taeshan and Cassadaigua are good experienced teams and niether team will roll over for Qazox. Camwood's done well in the past and might be ready to take the next step. FSC and Falconfar are out of their depth here.

Larkin: The Sharks might miss the playoffs, but they might not. Taeshan has one of the oldest teams in the World Bowl and Cassadaigua's been average the last couple of World Bowl. With a bit of luck, Qazox could go 9-1, but a 7-3 record seems fair.

Kruk: Here is the schedule:
MD1: Falconfar
MD2: Cassadaigua
MD3: Camwood
MD4: Taeshan
MD5: Free South Califas
MD6: Falconfar
MD7: Cassadaigua
MD8: Camwood
MD9: Taeshan
MD10: Free South Califas.

Larkin: Games 2-4 and 7-9 will be the toughest ones. I see Qazox going 5-1 or 4-2.

Francona: They'll go 3-3.

Kruk: Any predictions for the other groups?

Francona: I have 3: #1- The Babbage Islands will beat The Allamunnic States. #2- No team in Group H will win more than 7 games and #3- Thrilledge will win 9 games in Group I.

Larkin: There will be at least 2 teams finishing with 10-0 records, and The Allamunnic States will not be one of them.

Regulars Group Draw, and Outlook

The Allamunnic Regulars last year became the first team to win back-to-back championships, and this led to their being ranked first in the world by quite a large margin. Of course, that also means that they were drawn into Group A, which looks to be a deceptively difficult group.

The first thing to note is that, once again, I host has managed to misspell our name. There are two 'n's, people, and yet we seem to have this problem every year. It's not rocket-science, hosts. The second thing to note is that Khabarovsk Krai is the second-ranked team in the group, ranked #15 in the world, and were the best-possible team out of the second pot, yet there doesn't seem to be a lot of worry about playing against them. Frankly, it's become fairly normal for the Regulars to drop a game against someone they shouldn't lose to, and it's usually not the second-ranked team; it's too easy to remember who they are and act accordingly.

Similarly, underestimating the Babbage Islands isn't likely to happen. Despite the ranking disparity between the two, and the length of time its been since either team played the other, it's worth note that the Allamunnic national team actually has never managed to beat The Babbage Islands on the gridiron. Following them is the Icemark. We actually aren't terribly familiar with them, although we've seen them play in the World Cup. As it is, they may be a threat, but assuming the Regulars don't underestimate them (and given the team's state this year, that's not all that likely), they shouldn't bee much of a problem.

Rounding out the group are newcomers Veitlambodiamardesh and Boyznichov, both newcomers out of their depth and with obnoxiously-hard-to-write names. Seriously, hosts, if you can spell out Veitlambodiamardesh, remembering an extra 'n' can't be that difficult!

As for predictions, I'm prepared to guess that with this draw, it's entirely possible for a 10-0 finish by the Regulars, although I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you; they seem to have a habit of dropping a game or two here and there, but if getting it out of their system in the group stage is what it takes to win a third-straight championship, I don't think you'll hear anyone complaining apart from those spiteful Qazoxian journalists.

Garbongo: "I can't afford any slip ups"

The Osarian Gridiron Council has made the surprise move of retaining the services of Zerabithean coach Robert Garbongo for the eighteenth World Bowl, despite strong calls for him to be replaced. Most calls have been in favour of much-loved Mike Zampese, currently head coach of Utica University's gridiron program, and an executive on the OGC, but Zampese has distanced himself from the role by drawing attention to the impending collegiate gridiron season, and the sixth instalment of NSCF which immediately follows.

Garbongo is under no illusions regarding his status, and has resolved to regain the faith of the Firebirds fanbase. "I understand their frustrations, and I have every intention of making up for past failures. I can't afford to allow any more stumbles, because the fans, and the OGC probably, won't allow it. It's win or bust for me right now, and I intend to pass that attitude on to my players." He told us. "The twentieth season of the OSAGIF League recently finished, and I've had a good, long look at a lot of guys, and I'm hoping to pick my World Bowl squad a bit more selectively in terms of domestic performance. In the past, certain big names might have been given a little too much leeway and I think if we're going to progress as a team, as a nation, that needs to stop."

OSN's leading gridiron pundit, Harold Matterhorn, echoed the national team head coach's sentiments, and suggested that even his old favourite, Rashad Jackson, may not be in the mix anymore. "I think at the moment the only guys in the squad who are pretty much guaranteed to keep their spots are the guys playing in the Allamunnic States. Other guys who've been regulars for years might lose out now, especially if they've had a disappointing season, since we're trying to reduce the average age of the squad, and maximise quality based on form."

This approach is a large factor in the constant mentions of Zampese's name in reference to the head coaching position. The Carbonia-born coach is highly respected in Osarius for his ability to assist in the development of talented young players, and has been a major part of the OGC's strong suggestions that the national team should have a shorter "talent turnover" -- that is, the time between a player making a debut and making their last appearance for the team -- and focus much more strongly on the most talented young players. The OGCs notes on the plans include the following line; "it is paramount that the national squad effectively combines youthful enthusiasm and athleticism with experienced heads to guide and control them" and goes on to suggest that over 30s should not be too prevalent in the squad.

Garbongo has no qualms with this directive, despite his protestations over the suspension of Rigo Kopumava last time around, and has thrown his weight behind the plans, stating his intention to undertake a meticulous selection process for this World Bowl. His squad announcement will be made shortly, and he seems confident, but many have suggested that if the Firebirds struggle early on, Garbongo's head will roll.

Looking at the qualifying draw, Osarius face a slew of "up-and-coming" gridiron nations and will be seen as something of a scalp for their less experienced opposition, owing to their top ten world ranking, meaning they will need to be on their guard. If there is one area the Firebirds will expect to be strong, it is their secondary. The prevalence of Islander defenders in the national squad has bolstered the overall defensive strength of the team, but the sheer athleticism of Osarian defensive backs, when combined with their generally strong tactical awareness will likely be a difference-maker against some teams. The main issue for the coaching staff is to find a similar degree of security against the run, which has so often been the bane of the Firebirds in the past. Considering that less than five runningbacks achieved over 1000 yards rushing this past season in the OSAGIF League, and not very many came close, perhaps defensive solidity is now the Firebirds' strength. If this is the case, all Garbongo needs to do is select a strong enough offensive line to allow the numerous skill players at his disposal on offense to do what they do best, and success may well be on the cards. However, the flipside of this apparent strength against the run is that it may signify a decline in quality of Osarian runningbacks, which will, in turn, make things harder for whoever lines up under center.

Many questions and many answers, but it appears certain that this World Bowl cycle will not only define Garbongo's reign, and perhaps have a profound impact on those who follow him.

Exciting Times for West Guiana
Metro Sports Blog

Liz Sith

Well folks the time has come for West Guiana to shine, the start of the 18th World Bowl is only a few hours away. Will this be a repeat of World Bowl 17 where the team went onto the Round of 16, or will the team bust, well i'll tell you i'm hoping for the former. A lot of pressure will be placed on the nations image during this time, but luckily we've always been an open book country that welcomes people of all races or species.

I must though condemn the West Guiana World Bowl Committee for their very poor work at introducing the world to our beautiful country. For our international audience that might be tuning in, look if your team is lucky and makes it to the playoffs you'll be welcome with in our boarders. We have a very liberal minded government which in a time like this is a very good thing. We have opened our boarders to you, yes even those of you who reside in Rushmore. Our official motto for this World Bowl should've been, "Welcome to West Guiana in the heart of Atlantian Oceania"

However though there is more serious issues to contend with now, we're in Group C and when they showed who is in our group I cringed at the thought. Really for the third or fourth time we find our selves stuck in a group with Civil Citizenry, well aint this going to be a hoot! I don't know what our all time record against them is but I know one thing with CC we'll have at lest two loses, add that we have Thatius and Licentiapacisterra i'll doubt we'll even make it to the playoffs. However though I'll remain optimistic and say we'll end up with a record between 6-4 and 8-2. If we're really lucky we'll end with a 9-1 record, doubt that will happen.

Now to the coaching side of all this Max Jino in the twelve years since he was hired has done thus far a wonderful job, but no matter how we end this World Bowl cylce he's going to have a tough time. Since we heard after the Cup of Harmony Mike Temist of WG Soccer was retiring, WG Soccer has hired Flipo Hernandez, or WG Football's Assistant Coach. This is a blow to the defense since he was the master mind of the WG defense, however I fully believe Jino and the West Guiana Football Association will find a good replacment. And to Flipo Hernandez good luck with that soccer team, damn did Temist leave that thing in a mess, I'm kidding Temist was a pioneer with the soccer team.

One final note, we'll defiantly have home field advantage no matter what, but come on WGWBC, (West Guiana World Bowl Committee) come on seriously the best you could find was that stinking baseball field? I'm not saying I don't like Riverfront Place, but one thing that is not a river its along, that is Salem Bay. And two have any of those members driven in downtown Port Salem lately? Another one St. Johns River Field really using that as a stadium for use, so they think it'd be cool to watch a game being played on a floating field. Gemsbrook College Park, ATD Park i'm ok with those two. But this next one, University Stadium why it's slated to be imploded why use it? Cribian Oil Convention Center, jes wonder how much Crbian Oil payed to lobby them for that, but I hate that place wen there for the Myto State Volleyball Tournament and hated it. Armed Forces Memorial Stadium, I must applaud them for that one at lest. Oh and good job on that logo you made, one of the very few positive things that I have to say.

Asphalt tastes like shit.

That was the general consensus going around training camp that morning. Rennidan was no longer sporting the padless Brutes of yesteryear, instead opting to armour their players up and dub them Warriors, but that didn't mean the team ethic had changed. In the weeks running up to the first game, the Warriors could be found at the Green Sky Pub paying homage to the men who still wore World Bowl II rings on their fingers by practising without protection on the fabled car park turf. But nobody ever said following in their footsteps would be easy.

Mat O'Lok rose, white smudges dotting his scuffed and torn clothes from the freshly painted pitch outline, red smudges from the freshly opened wounds he wore with pride. He swilled his mouth and spat from between his teeth with a satisfying hiss. What exited was more blood than saliva.

"That's good, that's good."

Quentin grinned from the sidelines. One of the benefits of being the eldest player, even if he was but a year over quarter of a century, was being named as the coach for the Warriors. This meant he was the one who got to escape from the five-on-five practice matches, instead opting to referee and shout advice and inspiration to his comrades.

"Take five."

The Green Sky Pub had seen a complete overhaul in the last year. No longer a small, dingy box-like building, it was now a two storey elegant design, located at the head of it's large asphalt grounds, with large screens clinging to three of it's walls. The fourth screen stood at the opposite end of the car park, for those who wished to watch the games but could not fight through the car park to get to the building proper. Luckily it was still quiet, only a handful of fans had began to camp out in preparation for the first game of World Bowl 18.

As the ragtag band of players poured in, Elle the barkeep, a woman no doubt hired more for her looks than her qualifications, started pouring out the first round of drinks. Ten pints of Rennidan's finest ale (Scorched Lung, a slightly spicy, bitter tasting drink) and a double Kwetru Stock Finest, probably the best whisky in Rennidan (which is no surprise considering Kwetru is considered the city of indulgence by many), for O'Lok.

"What's the name of these fellas we're playing?"

"They named Meerkat, ain't they?"

"Nah man, it's mo' like Mishkit or sommin'."

"Do you guys not even know how to read a goddamned map?"

The other ten players looked at O'Lok over the rim of their glasses. Iota was the first to break out laughing, sending ripples through his three hundred pound body.

"Hell no, man. I'm a warrior, not a geometry teacher."

"Geography teacher."

"Yeah, well I ain't that either."

Shaking his head with a smile, O'Lok placed his glass back on the bar and motioned for another. His team mates may not all have a triple digit IQ, but they were some hard and headstrong motherfuckers, and he'd trust his life in their hands. In less than a day World Bowl 18 would kick off, and here was a privately educated Bachelor of Science, playing alongside a former convict, two freerunners, a weightlifter, a wrestler and man who seemingly ate all the pies. Bones were going to be broken, eyes would be blackened, teeth chipped, tongues bit, skin split and balls torn asunder. They were Warriors, and come hell or high water, they were here to win.

Or at the very least they here here to inflict plenty of pain upon the unsuspecting.

Pressure High on National Football Team!

"The National Football team has been practicing almost non-stop for the past two weeks. They have been trying to perfect their plays, blocks, catches, and passes. After Bordurian won the Free South Califas roller hockey tournament only a few days ago, the football team's expectations have rose 10 fold. The face some of the most experienced teams in international football. They expectations are now so that the team make it into the round of 16. Best of luck and may your throws always go where they should. Now, here's the coach of the national football team on their strategy."

"Our main offensive strategy is the throw. Our QB will be making about short 7 yard throws to the recievers. We're working with our recievers to be able to block a tackle much better so that after they catch they can break a tackle and make it a few more yards for the first down. Our main defensive strategy is protecting against the short passes. We are going to have most of our d concentrated around the 5 yard line. If we can tell our opponent is going for the long bomb then our Corner and Saftey's are going to be sticking with them the whole way. they are mostly widerecievers who we trained as Cornerback's and Safteys. We picked them because they're fast and good at catching so they will be making interceptions."

QB Controversy As World Bowl 18 Approaches

www.Bleacherz.vtr
Jet Richards

As Vettrera gets ready for their 2nd World Bowl appearance, everything seems set in stone. Everything, except for the quarterback that is. Darren Calloway (who plays for the Cape Marshall Crusaders) was expected to be the the QB, but he was recently injured during practice. Generally the QB from the recent season of the VFL would participate, but at the time, the Bellmont Grizzles opted out; and Darren Calloway accepted. At the Khione Titans believe they deserve the right to fill in for Calloway, on the grounds that they had the best regular season record (15-0-3). But at this point, the Bellmont Grizzlies, who had the 5th best regular season record and won the playoffs (12-0-6) are choosing to opt in to fill the QB position. Another issue is that Bellmont won their games by wider margins (or lost by smaller margins) than all the other teams in the league, ending with an overall +/- of 224, compared to Khione's +165. (Bellmont also has won more championships than any other team. 3, in 8 seasons) Though it may seem that Bellmont should take the spot, it is obvious that they originally declined to compete; and Vettrera doesn't have a specific system for backup teams. Both teams do have a chance at giving their QB the competitive spot.

Comments (shown oldest to newest)
(HectatePlay64) : Khione Deserves the spot, it's obvious that Bellmont gave it up; and anything can happen during playoffs,
so they really shouldn't be worth more than the real standings. Just look @ how Boreal & Braylon did in the playoffs, they
were able to excel despite their not-so-amazing regular seasons. The VFL needs to get their **** together.

(CrusadeCraze) : I can't believe Calloway was injured, this kills my hopes for the World Bowl. Sure, we fell from our Season 7
record and ended at like, 13-0-5. But that's still a great percentage. It's more that 2/3rds *Glares at Bellmont*

(Random10House) : @Hectate, really? The playoffs are what make the season great. It's a time for redemption
it tells everyone that it's okay if their regular season wasn't amazing; you've got a chance to move up.
Supporting Bellmont on this one, they won fair & square.

(HectatePlay10) : Boreal ended with the worst record in the league, and improve 6 spots like that
*insert snap*. Is That really fair to Aquis. :eyebrow:

(MaplierPros66) : The Maplier Archers should be trying to earn that spot too. We were the 2nd best
regular season team, & the second best post-season team. This crap isn't fair. We're the only team that
offers the best of both worlds between Khione & Bellmont.

(ValorKingdom) : @Maplier, Lemme play a sad song for you on the world's smallest violin.

(RidgewayRevive) : Lol, he put you on ice. :lol2:

(LaFayetteFierce) : :palm:

(GrantonGreased) :  Valor. But seriously. The winning team should make the decision,
and that's Bellmont.

Offense
Quarterback Elliot Johnson Tommy Rhodes Bradley Garden
Fullback Nathaniel Mourning Paco Sanchez Wayne Thomas
Running Back Sheldon Taylor Harrison Ryan Rashad Jackson
Wide Receiver 1 Jesus Barrios Sebastian Nelson Jermaine Carlson
Wide Receiver 2 Lucas Clayton Thomas Thompson Kyle Alexander
Right Tackle Clayton Jameson Idriss Pappo Andy Stronach
Right Guard Calvin Thompson Luke O'Neill Funo Vanamuro
Center Jamar Shaw Owen Young Tomas Cano
Left Guard Fumo Vunaseki Scott Bailey Todd Spears
Left Tackle Kai Perkins Raul Hector Leonard Dalton
Tight End Karim Ouaddou Marques James Henry Reid

The biggest surprise is at quarterback, where Elliot Johnson's impressive season with Firewood Phoenix gets him the nod ahead of Tommy Rhodes, whose Utica Bears side struggled all season and ultimately failed to reach the playoffs. Bradley Garden edges out Glenn Martel as the third choice, perhaps owing to his versatility and running skills rather than better passing ability.

Rashad Jackson's demotion to third choice running back is a little surprising, but not overly so. He struggled to get big runs on the board for Shanak this season, while Harrison Ryan was extremely impressive for Greeningham, rushing for twelve touchdowns (#1 in the league). Ku'ka Tumogo'li, the league leader in rushing yards was also left out, and many suspect it is down to his age and fears over his durability after a tough season.

The receiving corps has undergone a bit of a makeover, with Clayton, Nelson, and Thompson all making their first appearances in the national squad, having combined for over 3,300 yards and 30 touchdowns between them last season. Thompson's 14 touchdown receptions and average of 14.7 yards per play made him the most productive receiver in the league overall.

The offensive line has received a few younger upgrades to veteran players in the forms of Shaw, Perkins and Jameson, which should provide better protection for Johnson, while simultaneously providing more likelihood of openings for the running game, but otherwise there is little difference in quality compared to previous years.

Defense
Strong Safety Ku'ro Manito'gu Leon Williams Allen Jasper
Free Safety Craig Wilkerson Ru'go Lubado'ro Si'ku Tiloka'tu
Left Defensive End Kenneth Braddock Robert McCool Oliver Rowland
Left Defensive Tackle Terrell Cleaver Jason Hellman Clayton Monaghan
Right Defensive Tackle Daryn Patterson Casey Walsh Kevin Trotter
Right Defensive End Antonio Martinez Andrew McGregor Inigo Canales
Strongside Linebacker Ku'lo Manaki'de Lanu Kurebava Ethan Murray
Weakside Linebacker Micah Forte Lu'ko Manaki'de Will Burns
Middle Linebacker Jamal Cleaver Joseph Cartagena Rex Johnson
Right Cornerback Ryan Cleaver Jamel Kennedy Bradley Thomas
Left Cornerback Sherwin Palmer Chad Valentin Rigo Kopumava

The defense is arguably the strongest it has ever been. Particularly the pass rush and secondary, but also the run defense. In previous years, Osarian defensive units have been repeatedly burned by running backs considered average or better, but that might come to a stop this time around. Garbongo has identified the glut of defensive talent at his disposal and has tried to select the cream of the crop based on league statistics and differing roles. He should be able to, along with his coaching team, select the best possible defensive unit for any given play and be fairly confident they can stand up to the test. Naturally, the rest of the world's top ten ranked sides will still cause problems, but beyond that, Garbongo won't be expecting too many surprises.

The pass rush is perhaps the most impressive part of the Osarian defense, as it has developed over the years. Pass-oriented offenses will likely see some difficulty against the Firebirds, perhaps owing to the pass-heavy nature of the OSAGIF League. When your linebackers and defensive backs are facing some top quality quarterbacks and highly athletic receivers every week in league play, they have no choice but to learn how to defend against them, one might argue. Of course, there is always the danger that we are overrating our own players. Rigo Kopumava has been talked up in recent years as a future hall of famer, yet he has slipped waaaay down the depth chart this year owing to his inconsistent displays for Kronkow.

Special Teams
Kicker Paul Atkinson
Punter Owen Dickson
Long Snapper Jonathan Cassel
Holder Bradley Garden
Kick Returner Aaron Poynter
Punt Returner Harrison Ryan

There isn't much to say about the Special Teams unit beyond Owen Dickson's emergence as punter. The Corriere man has a strong and accurate kick, and was among the league leaders for punting inside the 20 yard line, while holding the second best average punt distance in the league. Paul Atkinson remains the team's kicker with his "laser rocket boot", while Aaron Poynter -- fourth on the depth chart at running back -- will return kicks.

Bradley Garden's nomination as holder is likely down to his natural holding ability and dual-threat nature. his inclusion provides the Firebirds with the option of utilising fake special teams plays more often, and of course, should a play break down, Garden is more than capable of picking out a pass or carrying the ball forward.

Falconfar Gridiron Football Team

Postby Falconfar » Tue Jul 10, 2012 6:59 pm

Falconfar's Gridiron Football Team

With a total of sixty-four professional teams, Falconfar has a very rich Gridiron football community. When it was announced that the Queen would be sending a team to the eighteenth edition of the World Bowl, its citizens eagerly awaited the roster...

RP Permissions and Stuff
Style Modifier: +1
Choose Scorers: Yes. Should mostly be the QB throwing deep, or the RB rushing for short. Defensive touchdowns should be rare.
Injuries: Yes. I can change the duration, though.
Penalties: Yes, but only procedural. They play a clean game.
Godmodding: No. Period.

Nickname: The Imperials

Home Stadium: The Queen's Dome, Irswabi, Falcon, Falconfar (Cap. 196,200)

Head Coach: Justin Austin, 42, Jurion Champions
Austin lead the Champions, Captained by QB William Dawson, to their first Falconfarian title. Now, he has been tasked to put together a 53-man squad and to lead them past their rivalries and differences to play as a team in the world's biggest stage of gridiron football. A small man who can get annoyed quite easily, whether he can hold his temper and lead his players to respectability in their first foray into international ball remains to be seen.

Offensive Coordinator/Assistant Coach: Pierre DuPont, 33, Ytriba Shock
If Austin was the reason that the Champions won, DuPont was the reason why the Shock played them for the Championships. Pierre devised a system to keep all three star receivers in the Shock happy, and he will be tasked to do the same with this squad. His innovate approach is to be praised and to be looked for, as it will take a genius to get this squad to work together...

Defensive Coordinator/Assistant Coach: Victor Morales, 39, La Pinatra Crusaders
The Crusaders may have given up a lot of points in the last Falconfar Season, but they also caused a lot of turnovers. The Imperials will be looking for the turnover on every play, even if it means leaving themselves open for a big score by going for the turnover too much. They will be hoping that they outscore their opponents and cause enough turnovers to win.

Special Teams Coordinator: Henry Taylor, 51, Orion City Rollers
Taylor believes that Field Position wins games. He also believes that returns are the most beautiful things in all of football, and that they should be respected. Look for him to make sure that the Imperials' Special Teams don't get unnoticed.

Five Keys to Victory

1. Stop the Run.
The Maril are a run-first steam, so stopping it will be essential to victory. Blitzing will probably keep the rushing yards down, and Julia Carter will be leading the charge. The Flames will be looking to stop the runner in the backfield every play and force long-yardage situations to get the Maril to throw. If they stop Jeff Monroe, they should be able to contain the Maril offense and keep the ball in Sandil Ren's hands.

2. Keep the Chains Moving.
This will be Ren's first game in charge of the offense. He will need to show that he can handle the audibles and the formation changes needed to keep the chains moving. Rocky Telmar should help, as the young man is good enough to handle all the offensive line audibles. Keeping the ball in the Flames' hands will be essential to victory.

3. Don't Be Overconfident.
Sure, Northern Sunrise Islands hasn't participated in a World Bowl before, but that is no reason for overconfidence. The Flames will still need to bring their best game, because whether they are new to the international scene or not, they are still the best of their nation.

4. Special Teams.
Special teams were a hindrance in the Flames' first run. Will they be able to turn it into a strength? Nothing turns off the momentum like a punt-return touchdown or a kickoff-return touchdown from the other team. It is okay if they don't score special teams touchdowns; just stopping them will be enough for this squad.

5. Play to the Crowd.
The game is being played at The Sacred Heart! Getting the raucous home crowd into the game will help the Flames with the momentum, and it is a good idea to keep the fans interested in a easier game like this one so that they will be hooked by the time that the big games come around.

These are the five keys to victory as the Flames face the Maril! Stay tuned for results.

Player Profiles for Falconfar's WBXVII Squad

1. William Dawson, QB

Fresh off of a Falconfarian Championship victory as the Quarterback and Captain of the Jurion Champions, Dawson has been handed the reins to the national squad, playing next to all the different stars from this league. The brilliant tactician and field strategist has made it a priority to build relationships with the other players, some that were his bitter rivals in the Falconfar Gridiron League.

"Sure, we were rivals, but I need guys like Jack (Desmondain) to catch the ball that I throw him, Jason (Wilhelm) to receive the ball properly in handoffs, and Israel (Vance-Dixon) to get me the snap cleanly. This will be the biggest task this World Bowl - not to win games, but to get all these egotistic superstars to play as a team. I know that we aren't expected to do well, and frankly I will be surprised if we make it to New West Guiana for the knockout rounds. Instead, I am going to make it a point to respect my teammates, to get to know them, and to learn how to play with them. I hope the defensive side does the same. If we play sixty minutes, all on the same page, to the best of our abilities, that's victory for us. Sure, the scoreboard is important and a few wins our first time around would be nice for certain, but this will be a true test to see just how strong we are as players, to put aside our differences and come together as a squad," Dawson explained.

When they are playing, though, Dawson will have the keys to the offense. His right arm will most likely hold the keys to a victory or a loss.

"He's got one heck of an arm, and he can throw pretty well," stated Jack Desmondain, Falconfar's #1 Wide Receiver, "And it is a trust issue with us receivers. We're going to have to learn to trust that he will put the ball where it needs to go, and he will have to trust that we will be where we have to be in order to catch it. As soon as we get the timing down, that's when our offense will start to click, and we'll start playing like a squad. William's got the arm, we've got the hands. Can we work together is the question."

Dawson will be tasked with facing a daunting foe in Qazox in the first game, away at Qazox.

"I'll play my best and look forward to watching the tape that shows me how I can improve," he admitted, "Hopefully, we can keep the game respectable against one of the world's best teams."

As humble as he is, Dawson is very competitive... A player who doesn't like to lose but is willing to learn from the losses that he goes through is the model player, and that is who William Dawson, starting QB and offensive captain for the Falconfar Imperials, is known for.

Good luck, William.

HE'S ANGRY!

"Grrrrr"

HE'S LOUD!

"SCREAMING!"

AND HE'S PROUD!

Scene of short fat bald man running around wearing only the flag of German Zerabithea.

"Woooooo!

IT'S THE ANGRY BILLY SHOW!!1

Billy: Hey there folks, and welcome to my new show where I take a look at the world of football and see if I can find something to get angry about. And it only took me a min too. Seems that some interns or whatever got the MD scores wrong, making to look like the Rams lost their first game against Fantoa. But it was corrected and the Rams beat them 39 to 17....

Billy: BUT I'M STILL ANGRY!!1
"sound bite of explosion is played in the back around"

Billy: I got 3 problems with this game that I feel need to be made.

1. Raptor Jesus Christ! How about that defense?! The first half of the game Fantoa scored 17 unanswered points, that is B@*L S^%T! And part of the reason was replacing Tombstone with Chaplin Paul, now I understand that he was getting old, heck he was one of the few still left from the old BoI team. But he still had energy in him, the international stage is different from what Paul is used to, he should of been the back up, and let Tombstone show him the ropes, keep someone with experience down there. I don't know how well he would have done if he was still there, but both of Fantoa's TD's came from balls thrown in Paul's direction, and he failed at keeping up with the receiver (whose name I can't even find).

2. "Scenes are shown from the game with Robert being sacked at various points"

See that?! That's the QB of the 2nd ranked team getting sacked by a bunch of nobodies, AND I MEAN LITERALLY NOBODIES, I CAN'T FIND A SINGLE THING ABOUT THEM!1. And not only was he sacked, he was sacked 6 times! I kid you not 6 times! The Rams will not make the championship if they can't keep their most important player safe from the defense. The only thing worse was seeing Juan Reas look so bad on the field. That's a man who should of left, he's also been around since the BoI, and while at his height he was an excellent Right Guard, he is no longer at his height.

3. The worst part about this? We already knew this! Don't believe me? Just look at the last WB during the play offs, Tombstone was not the best he ever was, but he preformed way better than Reas did.

Billy: In the end though, I'm glad to see them win, and I'm sure they will get everything straight by the next game, but lets face it, that's not why your watching this.

"the stage turns red and a siren goes off"

Anouncer: It's time for Billy's finally recap of the day!

Billy: So to recap....

THE RAMS WERE STUPID AND TOOK OFF A PLAYER THAT SHOULD OF STAYED, AND KEPT A PLAYER WHO SHOULD OF LEFT! THE DEFENSE NEEDS TO SHAPE UP, THE OFFENCE NEEDS TO STOP THE QB FROM BEING SACKED 6 TIMES BEFORE THIS BECOMES A PROBLEM! AND THE HOSTS NEED BETTER INTERNS! AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY I'M BALD AT THE AGE OF 34!

"The stage goes back to normal and Billy is panting"

Billy: Well... That's all for today... Tune in next time... For the... The Angry Billy Show...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Please note Billy is only meant to be funny, all opinions voiced by him do not represent the opinions of the ZSN, just imagine him with the voice of Gilbert Gottfried and all will be well)

Here is the Sea Dragons Roster for WB18. Yes I do know it is a baseball roster. Yea that is a bit crazy. Yes, There is a reason.

Having been sent to compete in second-rate baseball tournament, these Se Dragons are shocked to discover they are supposed to be playing Football and even more shocked to find out that they have no choice but compete - in their baseball unis. This ought to be interesting.

Do anything but kill my players.

"Holy crap, that's the third time the stretcher has been called on for Meshkete, and we're still only in the first quarter..."

The Powis-Tadeo Arena was small, but it was packed out, and the cries and shouts of the warring fans echoed throughout the mountain range it was sat upon. Four thousand men and women had lugged through the three-hour walk to get here. For a thousand of them, their enthusiasm was beginning to wane. The high altitude and the exhausting walk, coupled with seeing their team already suffering a physically gruelling ordeal, had left many of them slumped in their seats, finding consolation in the bottom of a plastic cup.

The score was currently tied at 7-7, and with three quarters left there was still plenty left to be said and done, but if Meshkete continued to lose players at the rate they were going then soon they may have to begin recruiting fans to play for them.

Powis Obsid looked down at the second string quarterback he had left crushed into the floor. He may not have passed high school biology, but he was fairly certain a man's arm should never resemble the letter W.

"You might wanna' get that looked at dude."

Safety Concerns Over Warriors

Whilst no doubt still on a high after their first victory of this World Bowl Campaign, the Rennidan Warriors are already under attack from a small sect of the international gridiron fan base who claim the players are intentionally going out of their way to hurt and injure players on rival teams.

"Meshkete were down three players by the end of the first quarter, seven players by the half and eleven by the end of the match," came the written complaint from an anonymous gridiron fan, "and we know it is not a fluke. Even before these Rennidanians chose to wear protective equipment they were out to hurt other athletes, now that they're equipped properly they're an even larger threat to the safety of others."

"The pads and helmets are designed to protect players, but the Warriors instead use them as weapons in a brutal style of play that can only be compared to a war of attrition."

Rennidan opted to wear regulation protective gear after the loss of quarterback Darion Tadeo in a game against Newmanistan spurred calls for better control over health and safety on the international gridiron stage.

We approached the Warriors coach, center and defensive tackle, Quentin Maximiano, for get his opinion on the matter, as well as linebacker and tightend Mik Tenfall.

"Rennidan have always hit hard, and you never saw us complaining about being hit when we had no pads. We took it, we dealt with it and we got on with it. We're not about to change our play style now just because we've fallen in line with safety regulations."

"Of course more people gonna' get hurt," Tenfall responded. "Before, when we hit, we felt it all. We knew what our limit was. Then we get wrapped up in all this gear and it numbs us. We can hit even harder because we don't have to worry about feeling it no more. We're not out to hurt other players more, it's just a natural consequence of what's happened."

The Warriors claimed a decisive 30-23 victory over a bloodied Meshkete side at the Powis-Tadeo Arena this weekend. Mat O'Lok, captain/quarterback/safety/kicker, threw 8 for 13, ran for 92 yards and scored all four of Rennidan's touchdowns and PATS. Powis Obsid rounded the score to 30 with a brutal safety that left Meshkete's quarterback with three fractures in his off-hand arm.

Their next opponents, top of the group Kytler Peninsuale, have yet to make any form of announcement regarding their future confrontation. Time will tell if the Warriors will tone down their aggressive style of play, but this reporter highly doubts it.

Deep Fried Pickles Sports

Hello, I am Will Owens, and this is Deep Fried Pickles Sports.

In the Deep Fried Pickles inaugural World Bowl match, they lost 36-16 to Civil Citizenry. The Dills were disappointed in their loss, but knew it would not be easy going up against the third ranked team in the world. Coach Sean Sherry seemed very frustrated throughout the game and could not figure out the offense of Civil Citizenry the entire game. The offense took forever to get goin, and once they did it was too late. Lets go to the highlights.

1st Quarter:
Civil Citizenry takes the ball first.
12:07 CC QB throws a 26 yard pass into the endzone for a touchdown. PAT is good. CC 7-0 DFP
6:22 Justin Latour goes back to pass and is picked off by the corner!
1:15 CC RB avoids the defense for a 6 yard run for a touchdown. CC 13-0 DFP
1:15 It's a fake! The ball is caught in the endzone for a 2-point conversion. CC 15-0 DFP

2nd Quarter:
13:46 Jeff Mounts runs the ball in from 12 yards out to get DFP on the board. 2-point conversion is no good. CC 15-6 DFP
9:21 CC QB throws a 81 yard bomb for another TD. PAT is good. CC 22-6 DFP

3rd Quarter:
7:34 Marty Gillis puts the ball through the uprights for a 36-yard field goal. CC 22-9 DFP
3:56 CC RB breaks through the line for a 41 yard touchdown. PAT is good. CC 29-9 DFP
0:18 Justin Latour hits Al Young for a 26 yard pass into the endzone. PAT is good. CC 29-16 DFP

4th Quarter:
8:45 CC QB throws a 31 yard pass for a final touchdown. PAT is good. CC 36-16 DFP
0:00 Game over, Civil Citizenry wins by 20.

Lets look at the group standings and our schedule:

Preview

Now we look forward to our next game against Licentiapacisterra. They have yet to release a roster, but have competed in previous World Bowls. They lost their first game to Thatius, 34-17. Licentiapacisterra is not highly ranked, they are number 98 with only one point in the rankings. They have never made much noise in a World Bowl, and it looks like a winnable game for Deep Fried Pickles. Here are my group predictions for the next matchday:

DFP 38-30 Licentiapacisterra ------- Camerania 17-14 Thatius ------- West Guiana 28-21 Civil Citizenry

Bellmont Wins QB Rights, Vettrera Loses 1st Match-up

www.Bleacherz.vtr
Jet Richards

After a dismal performance in Vettrera's 1st game, many Khione fans are saying "Told ya". Vettrera's poor performance can be acredited to the poor defense they had in that game. The QB was continuously sacked, and many passes were dropped (not to mention the 2 interceptions). Vettrera's Nat. Team had this to say: "We messed up here, we know. But we're going to come out harder in the next game." Vettrera is used to not playing at top form during the "World Bowl" & "World Cup", but there's more behind the loss this time. As reporter earlier, Vettrera was at a stalemate to decide who would be the QB in the World Bowl. In the end, Bryce Hopkins of the Bellmont Grizzlies was picked to compete, over Taylor Robins of the Khione Titans. After the loss, many Titans are calling foul, saying that if their QB had earned the bid spot, none of this would have happened. Either way you slice it, Vettrera is currently their group's cellar dwellers.

Comments (shown oldest to newest)
[pre](Titan1Riot) : Khione deserved the spot, I can't believe this [-blocked-] happened. And now we're playing like crap. I can't wait for the VFL to start up again so Bellmont can fall.

(CrusadeCraze) :I have to agree with Titan. Vettrera really made a mistake. I'm not gonna blame the QB, but this team doesn't mesh well. The chemistry just isn't there right now. And the fact that this was a last minute decision...smh.

(Immitatertots) : LOL, this is just like Vettrera. You get 1 championship in 100 attempts, and can't capitalize on [-blocked-]. That's why y'all
lost. You could have the best QB in the league and still be the sorriest [-blocked-] I ever saw. [-blocked-]

Three Reasons Why the Flames Won, 32-14, over the Northern Sunrise Islands

1. The Defense.
Yes, Jeff Monroe of NSI had a pretty good first quarter with over forty yards rushing and a TD, but the Defense of the Flames clamped down after that. Discounting the first quarter, the Flames held the Maril to 2-of-9 on third downs, and NSI wasn't able to generate another score until late in the fourth quarter, in garbage time. Julia Carter had a monster game, with five tackles in the backfield, two forced fumbles, and an interception.

2. Sandil Ren.
The Wraith QB showed that he deserves the QB/Captain/Signal-Caller spot with a masterful performance, leading the Flames to three touchdowns and three field-goals. (The other score was a safety in the end zone caused by an intentional grounding penalty on Barry Christson, the Maril's QB.) There were times when Ren looked a bit rushed, but the line, led by the rookie Telmar, held their ground for most of the game. Ren grew more and more comfortable as the show went on, and finished 21-of-29 with 258 yards and 2 touchdowns, with no interceptions.

3. Special Teams.
It was a concern for the Flames the last World Bowl cycle, but the Special Teams got off to a good start. Punts by Trotter pinned the Maril plenty of times inside their own ten yard line, and K Van Allen was good from 43, 47, and 45 yards. Can what was an Achilles' heel become a new source of strength?

One Reason of Concern

Starting Slow.
Halfway through the first quarter, the scoreboard read 7-0 Northern Sunrise Islands, and the Flames had been out-gained on offense, seventy-three yards to fifteen. They were able to come back against a "weaker" foe in Northern Sunrise Islands, but such a slip-up against more experienced teams will not end well for this team.

Five Keys to Victory - Yesopalitha vs. Osarius

1. Do Not Be Intimidated.
Osarius is one of the top Gridiron teams in the world, and coming off of a 16-54 drubbing of BFL. However, when it comes down to it, they are still humans. The Flames must not be overly intimidated by the Firebirds' ranking or prestige, and go out there like they are starving for this win. It is, coincidentally, their first test of this World Bowl cycle, after all.

2. Avoid Turnovers.
Yes, this sounds a bit cliche, but Osarius's defense is built on creating pressure on the opposing quarterback, and defending the pass. Apparently, the Osarius domestic league is built extensively on pass-happy offenses. Ren will have to learn when to take a sack and when to air it out, and hopefully prevent turnovers that would deflate this offense.

3. Get the Rushing Game Going.
To counteract the pass-defense-heavy Osarius team, Isildil and the O-Line must get some kind of a rushing attack going to give Ren some breathing room. It will chew down the clock as well as create opportunities for Play-Action passes that may result in big plays.

4. Create Some Kind of Rush.
The Osarius offensive line is massive, with every member being over 6ft. 3 inches in height and weighing over 300 pounds. This will institute a size vs. speed battle in the trenches, and the Flames' D-Line must generate some kind of pass rush if the Flames are to have any chance of winning this game.

5. Perform in the Clutch.
If the Flames are to upset the Firebirds, the game will come down to one offensive drive or one defensive stop that they will have to make. If the Flames can keep their heads on straight and play on, they might be able to shock Osarius and become early favorites in the group.

Stay tuned as the Flames face the Firebirds @ The Benevolence Bowl, Dynapolis, Osarius (capacity 67,000).

Well aint that just...
Metro Sports Blog

Liz Sith

Well after a very confusing Match day one with much confusion over the scores, in which the WGWBC was heavily criticized by some but also applauded by a few. After the dust settled it no longer mattered, well at lest to us first we got a score that we lost to Camerania 24-16, disappointing. Then an hour latter we got word we still lost, but this time by a score of 41-22, now that isn't just disappointing that's sickening. But anyhow now it is time for the team to focus on beating Civil Citizenry, we were in the same group as them in our debut in World Bowl 16 and got swept by them, this time we need to exact some form of revenge.

Look for all of my readers if we don't beat CC we start 0-2 and that is one hell of a hole to try and dig out of from with only ten games. Yes an 0-2 may not seem overly bad but even if we start winning it doesn't matter about the win loss, but about the dignity of the team. West Guiana had a major blow last night when the scores were released through out the universe, and now we need the football team to come out fighting.

Okay, the fact that we now play Civil Citizenry who's national teams I don't think we've ever beaten it is time for the bleeding to stop and time to start pulling out those wins. I of course try to remain optimistic but yea i'll say it we might lose, I mean we've played their national teams in World Lacrosse Championships 12, World Bowl 16 and World Baseball Classic 22. Out of those six total times our record is 0-1-5, we tied them in WLC 12.

My prediction CC 21, WG 20.

Post-Matchday 1/Pre-Matchday II

Postby Falconfar » Wed Jul 11, 2012 2:21 pm

Player Profiles for Falconfar's WBXVIII Squad

1. William Dawson, QB - After Matchday I

Dawson was highly instrumental in the Imperials' 31-22 upset of Qazox, leading the newly fledged team to four touchdowns and a field goal over the Qazian defense. He finished with a stat line of 25-of-36 for 317 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions, giving Falconfar its first international gridiron win.

Although he seemed chased by Victor Damien at times, Dawson settled down in the second and third quarters, throwing for three of his four touchdowns over the middle quarters. Desmondain received 8 catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns, while Temple and Nixon caught one apiece.

With the impressive upset victory in his belt, Dawson will now surprise no one as he goes after a second win, over Taeshan. Will the confidence boost help? Or will it be detrimental?

2. Jack Desmondain, WR
Desmondain was a reliable target all season for the South Irswabi Tigers, who made it to the Falconfarian Championships before being clipped by Dawson and the Champions. Jack possesses a lanky frame in 6 feet and 7 inches, and also possesses a vertical leap that allows him to catch almost any ball thrown in his vicinity.

His route-running skills aren't the best, but when he gets the ball, he isn't likely to fumble it away. Not really the fastest receiver either, he's the best when the team needs a first down, earning the label "possession receiver" to reflect this ideal.

Dawson, the QB, will be the make-it-or-break-it point for the Imperials, but Desmondain will be one of the key cogs to determine whether Dawson is successful or not. He caught two touchdown passes against Qazox, and more performances like that will be expected of him if the Imperials are to go far.

How constructive is building a relationship with your rival? Well, as Desmondain puts it, "Everything I learn about him I can use against him if we are to meet in the Falconfarian Championships again. The nature of Gridiron football in Falconfar, though, indicates that to be honest, the chances of he and I playing each other again next season is very slim. So, I'll just enjoy talking football with a guy who understands it."

As Dawson and Desmondain become friends, the more the chances of Falconfar doing well goes up, that is for certain.

Facing an unranked, inexperienced opponent to open the campaign, at the Benevolence Bowl... Can't really ask for a better way to start. The Firebirds took full advantage of the opportunity to put some serious numbers up, making a statement to not only their group rivals, but the rest of the potential championship contenders.

The decision to replace Tommy Rhodes with Elliot Johnson drew a lot of attention in the build up, with fans unconvinced by the Firewood quarterback, and many speculating that Rhodes is probably still the superior passer, and simply suffered from a drastically weakened offensive line at Utica last season. The argument could go either way, as although Rhodes was the most accurate passer attempting more than 150 passes -- he completed 63.6% of his 354 throws -- he was also sacked fewer times than Johnson, and attempted over 200 fewer passes. Johnson seemingly has the edge in all the areas that matter, though; more touchdowns (32 to 12), more yards per play (7.4 to 7.0), and less interceptions (13 to 16). As it turned out, Johnson repaid Garbongo's faith with a four touchdown display before making way for Bradley Garden in the fourth quarter with over 300 passing yards under his belt.

The dominant display from the pass offense was partly down to what appeared to be a mismatch physically between the visitors' defensive backs and the Osarian receivers, and partly down to some dangerous running from Sheldon Taylor. Taylor has stepped up a level this year, determined to prove his capability to shoulder the majority of the rushing burden as he has done at collegiate and domestic level.

"I just try and get out there and get the ball forward, move the chains. That's my job. I won't pretend I like the committee system and shared carries I have to put up with when guys like Rashad [Jackson] are on point, but you do it for the team. I much prefer carrying the football myself though, obviously. Nothing beats the feeling of breaking a tackle and crossing the plane for six points."
- Sheldon Taylor, Osarius Firebirds running back

Rashad Jackson did feature in the game, but far less than we're used to seeing him. He lined up primarily on third downs -- where he had a 50% success rate -- and return plays, where he averaged an unspectacular 11.9 yards off his four punt returns. Garbongo insists that the former Spartan has an important role to play for the team, however, despite being behind Taylor and the impressive Harrison Ryan on the depth chart. "Rashad has the ability to cut and move better than any other running back in the squad, except maybe Poynter... but he's quicker than Poynter, more elusive. I know he can do great things for this team, and his time will come." Garbongo told us.

Defensively, Antonio Martinez added to his growing reputation as perhaps one of the world's most feared pass rushers with a defensive score in the second half, while the Firebirds were able to keep the visitors out of the endzone until the fourth quarter. The varied offense, and lack of big match, international experience from the opposition make it difficult to draw any real conclusions regarding the strength of the Firebirds' defense, but Martinez spoke up as defensive captain. "They might not be at the same level as the Regulars, or the Rams, or even the Flames, but you don't expect that. They didn't roll over and let us beat them, we still had to dig in and really take it to them at times. I think if we hadn't had such a strong start, it might not have looked so easy, because they were a lot tougher in the second quarter." The former Utica Tiger told us post-match. OSN's gridiron analyst Marlon Phillip seems to agree with Martinez's conclusions.

"While nobody expected anything less than a win from the Firebirds, and they ended up making fairly easy work of it, the game arguably came down to a few key plays. When Jesus Barrios burned the defensive back after a couple of minutes to open scoring, that was probably pretty demoralizing, which set up a strong quarter for Osarius. Most teams won't be overawed like that, and might even expect that level of athleticism from us. Any team who's done their scouting properly will know that we've got a very strong athletics background, and might think more tactically to try and neutralize us on that front."
- Marlon Phillips, OSN Gridiron Analyst

Phillips went on to point out that teams like Yesopalitha and the Equestrian States will likely be better prepared mentally, particularly in the case of the Flames, who will be fielding a number of players who are familiar with Osarian gridiron through the NSCF, and to a lesser extent, the International Gridiron Champions League. In addition to that, neither the Flames nor the Equestrian States roster is entirely human, which could see the psychological battle go against Osarius. With a number of less experienced players in the squad now, and the understandable feelings of unfamiliarity, trepidation and perhaps fear when faced with a Demon or Wraith, or a Griffon or Earth Pony, Garbongo's side might lose their concentration at crucial moments. It is imperative that they make even fewer than the few mistakes they made against Backyard Football Leagues if they are to finally elevate themselves to a World Bowl Championship, and many would question whether Garbongo -- given his generally laid-back approach to coaching and man management -- is the man to instill that kind of focus.
